Reverse Unpopular Opinion: les Parisiens 8P
Un-e de mes meilleur-es ami-es est parisien-e, c'est une personne formidable
Pardon.

If you want to be as famous as me- you gotta work, gotta work, gotta work-
I don’t know if Reverse Falls is still a thing on here but man, was I obsessed with it back in the early days.
#gravity falls#reverse falls#unpopular opinion but people took this AU wayyy too seriously lol. it’s dipper and mabel. they’re twelve. they would not be killing people#- with knives and shit. they would be goofing off with all the menace of your edgy rival in a Pokemon game.#it just kinda baffles me lol. also I’m revoking ya’ll’s shipping rights with any twin characters because ya’ll CANNOT behave.#my art#discussion aside: look! a finished illustration! I’m so happy lol I did this so fast for my usual workflow.

Reverse unpopular opinion: a practical guide to evil
Missed this, sorry!
Do you know how hard it is to write in-universe songs and poetry that are supposed to be well-loved classics, and have them actually be good? Like even more than the banter that's the skill that really stands out.
Also Karios and Anaxares, villains (antagonists, I mean) of all time. Love them both dearly.

Did you ever get around to what happens in watching and dreaming for Arofam?
maxchatt200: I don’t mean like comic wise I meant like have you made any plans regarding watching and dreaming?
Yes and no, I have some ideas I definitely want to do but there are still kinks I need to work out to make things make sense.
Cause there are also things that I logically can't do the same way, given where the characters are in comparison. Like hunter can't be killed by belos for example, because that would make no sense in this context, so if i were to say, do titan hunter, i would need a completely different reason for him to exist.
So parts of it are ready and parts are still bring developed I'd say atm. I think I'm finally getting somewhere with it though that I have a rough idea of where to go with it.
Some of those ideas have already been put out there.
#and obviously keep in mind i seem to hold the unpopular opinion that i didn't really enjoy WAD#not as an episode or finale to the series#i still love the show but that episode is very messy and i got really taken out of it first viewing due to some of its choices#so I'm trying not to repeat those mistakes given i can and im not rushing to cram it in a 40 minute special like the crew was#the owl house#toh#golden guard#the golden guard#the collector#hunter deamonne#hunter noceda#hunter wittebane#hunter clawthorne#toh art#toh fanart#my art#areverseoffeathersandmudau#a reverse of feathers and mud#a reverse of feathers and mud au#toh hunter#hunter toh

RUO Meme: Robotics
the thing is. ultimately. computers are coolest when they're used to do robotics. that's the point. sure, you can be a computer toucher. but getting the computer to touch you your world? that's where its at.
like its one thing to do abstractions on the computer and use the computer to talk to the other computer to give you real brainworms but when you use the computer to run a forklift that's when you feel that adrenaline of seeing a new world edging in the most visceral way. more controversially i think all intelligence is necessarily embodied – materially. that's the real answer to moravecs paradox.

dragon age dwarves
ok I legitimately love the worldbuilding for dragon age dwarves? they are so *clenches fist* to me. like even orzammar's fucked up nonsense gender politics compel me. the way they only interact with magic in thedas in completely ass-backwards ways, like? resistant to magic, can't do magic, can play with lyrium without melting their brain out of their skull, don't fucking dream because dreaming and magic stem from the same source? phenomenal. there's so much tension to be mined there in bouncing them off the rest of the setting. and all that bullshit with the titans? wish dragon age loved its own dwarves as much as I do, I tell you what.

Reverse unpopular opinion: sequel to phantom of the Opera? :)
The thing is! Love Never Dies is genuinely so delightful to me. I take great joy in awful things and that show is SO fucking funny
The way there is a seven minute impassioned duet about how Erik and Christine fucked raw in a fucking field ten years ago like two days before her wedding or something. Girlie was legit about to leave Raoul because the 60 yo virgin dick was apparently that good (doubt!) like forget about the murders and the threats, who even cares about that!
Erik being introduced in the London production with a fully automated Christine sex bot that SOMEONE at RUG I assume must have finally noted was too fucking creepy and just NOT conveying the same gothic tone as the mirror bride so they just switched it out for a portrait he can cry at? The fact that Erik, thee Phantom of the Opera, the great virtuoso, apparently spends his time writing vaudeville hits like Bathing Beauty.
“Give me the gun, Meg” as a fully serious line at the climactic sequence. Trying to talk Meg out of fucking killing herself and then ending it with “We can’t all be like Christine” because that’s totally going to be taken well.
I have this musical memorized. I am not kidding.
If I’m not allowed to talk about the “so bad, it’s good” elements though, the music is genuinely fun, I really like the arrangements. I like how the Melbourne production balanced a few callbacks to Phantom in a few of the songs.
The art nouveau revolving stage design goes really hard! The costumes are also great! Christine’s costumes are also great! Of the music, I genuinely like Devil Take the Hindmost a lot. And uh… I forget whatever Meg’s sad song about the sea is called. But I sincerely like that one too. The libretto genuinely excels at passive aggressive group numbers. Dear Old Friends is very clever and biting! So is uhh the song Madame Giry sings early on at Erik where she’s like WHILE YOU WERE FUCKING AROUND IN SIDESHOWS I WAS HOLDING DOWN THE FORT
It’s such a stupid fucking musical. I love inflicting it on unsuspecting friends who like Phantom
Send me a topic and I’ll have to say something good about it! No hating allowed!

Reverse Unpopular Opinion on Wolfspider, please?
Oh good one good one!!
Rachel is the best parahumans character, imo. As an autistic person, her character and her relationship with Taylor are so important to me. The ways that they love each other are so beautiful. And this is why, despite not personally shipping them, they’re still my top Worm ship.
The way that Taylor has to completely rework the way she thinks about and communicates with Bitch?? It would be so easy to just go “whatever she’s just weird” but she breaks down the way Rachel works. Despite their relationship starting out on rocky footing, she dedicates herself to meeting Rachel where she is instead of expecting her to communicate in a way that doesn’t come naturally to her. Hearing Taylor process these differences in body language and communication is so good, and seeing her put those concepts into action in interactions with Rachel are just so sweet. Even when they’re fighting, Taylor doesn’t give up on her. And that’s just so beautiful.
Rachel is so traumatized, so rough, so used to understanding and communicating differently than everyone around her. She’s not alone, she’s not unloved, but her existence is still pretty lonely. Her differences haven’t made it impossible for her to have a team who care for her. But it feels like the difference between “she’s weird and that’s ok” and actually trying to understand her weirdness. She’s guarded, and because of that Taylor‘s repeated efforts at trying to befriend her are confusing and frustrating. But she doesn’t give up on Taylor either. She continues to give Taylor chances to try again. The trust between them, even before they are close, just in allowing each other to keep trying.
The progression of their relationship Is lovely. From moments like Taylor scooping dog poop for Rachel, to the big moments like Rachel taking Taylor‘s hand in the van. They’re just wonderful. A lot of effort was put in to their relationship, and it shows. Their bond is a lot more significant than a lot of the canonical romantic relationships we see in Worm. They are close in a way even Taylor and Brian aren’t. Their relationship can be interpreted differently, but regardless of how you see it, they love each other so much. Rachel is so worried about being manipulated and being betrayed. And even when that happens, multiple times, she *still* doesn’t give up on Taylor. Her trust for Taylor is so big that she even trusts her to stab her in the back.
I love them and I love their love. And this is why I will always be a big fan of the most heart wrenchingly beautiful Worm ship.

sirius/harry for the ask game ;)
Love love love this ship! Funnily enough the Sirry revelation came to me much later when compared to Harry/Teddy (I just have a too big soft spot for Teddy 🥹) but after my first age gap hyper fixation (a ship from another fandom) I’ve realized that the thing that really gets me about it is the guilt x self-indulgence x devotion trifecta which Sirry delivers in spades! I adore fics that explore how both selfish and selfless their devotion to each other can get, it’s very co-dependent but also so very loving. I can’t get enough of it. I’ll never stop reccing the fic that illustrates that brilliantly, Slip Free of My Grasp by @lqtraintracks. Thank you for the ask!

Something about Worm, for the reverse unpopular opinion ask meme.
Worm may just be the work of fiction I've read the most. It is one of the defining works when it comes to how I think about superpowers, and the place of superheroes and -villains in society. It has the great advantage of being written by a single writer with an ending in mind, meaning that all the status quo upsets are allowed to matter, which makes the setting feel considerably more alive than what you see in the big two franchises.
On top of that, Taylor Hebert is one hell of a head to spend so much time in. Wildbow is an incredible character writer, and he really knocked it out of the park with his first main character. Taylor's view of the world is intense, and very convincing in a casual first read. Thankfully, the structure of arcs broken up by interludes allows Wildbow to dip his toes into other people's heads, to give different perspectives and often offer a bit of a breather before getting back into Taylor's head.
The prose is somewhat bland, especially at the start, but I always liked it as a thematic element. The text comes more alive as Taylor comes out of her shell and moves away from her suicidal depression.
Also, and this is the true unpopular (positive) opinion here, the fight scenes are well-written and very engaging! The Mannequin fight, especially, still stands out in my head as something special.

Reverse unpopular opinion, easy mode: Interview with the Vampire - hard mode: the French accents in IWTV
Easy mode (very easy in fact I have 0 complaints about this show lmao) : I love everything about this show. The way the story's been recontextualised within the 20th century, the absolutely, mindblowingly talented cast, the soundtrack, the artistic direction, the photography, the way they changed the characters' races in a way that actually impacts the story... I could go on and on for hours tbh
Hard mode : ARGH. Okay. I'll try to say nice things and mean them. French is a fucking hard language to learn, it's quite flat in a way that most languages aren't, so I genuinely respect the actors for learning it. And to be quite honest, putting aside the context of the show, Sam's accent is intelligible. Like, if someone with his accent came up to me asking for directions I would understand.
And there's Assad's accent which is near perfect. I couldn't believe my ears when I heard him say in an interview that he didn't speak french before and learned it for the show. The scene where Armand and Madeleine are talking in french in season 2 episode 6 is probably one of my favorites in the entire show. I'm pretty sure Roxane Duran is a native speaker though.

i think it's severely under-explored that, in possibly the rarest timeline imaginable, hawke can potentially become both viscount of kirkwall and princess of starkhaven
#assuming that the wife of the prince is a princess idfk. there's never been any mention of a princess of starkhaven#(for clarification: starkhaven doesnt have a king; they only take the title of prince. so no queen i assume)#da#da2#dragon age#dragon age 2#hawke#but like. what consequences does this have for the free marches and the independence of the city-states?#obviously none because they cant alter the story so much for such a rare outcome#but................it's interesting!#personal#also hey since i dont feel like making this its own post: ive got a bunch of asks recently and i AM PLANNING TO REPLY!!!!!!#i was gonna do that 'reverse unpopular opinion' thing right away but then my sleep got fucked up and it messed up my plans too badly#but ive uh. basically written my entire responses in my head. just gotta write them down sometime

Reverse Unpopular Opinion on Gamechanger.
This is an easy one! I genuinely love it. I think it's an extremely clever idea and it's one that the writers and crew clearly put an incredible amount of care into. They think through everything from "who should I have in this episode" based on what sort of person would excel in it and enjoy it, they have protocols if someone isn't enjoying it, and they do truly wild amounts of work. It's infinitely adaptable with a pretty much indefinite lifetime because the game is always changing, and some of the recent episodes in particular are playing with the medium (notably Deja Vu) in a very cool way.

I really don't agree with how Marc is the Traveller and Jake is the Embracer as stated in the comics. I see it as the reverse, where Jake is the Traveller and Marc is the Embracer.
Why? Marc started taking in Reese to work for him, then Soldier, then talked to 8-ball. He "embraced" them, like Marc is trying to emulate what he thinks Khonshu should be. A "guiding figure" who embraces the lost. And those who he embraces stay with him. Embracing him in return.
Literally, there is a scene where Marc hugs Reese, Tigra hugs Marc. Actual Embracing. That should have been very obvious.
AND the fact that Reese, Soldier and maybe 8-balll then embraces the image of Mr. Knight. The same way Marc embraces the role of the "Khonshu" for the Midnight Mission.
Everything about him is Embracing, metaphorically and literally.
Metaphorically since by Embracing others, Marc can also stop feeling lonely. There is comfort in embracing, and Marc is shown to do it to comfort others. Though it is also a way for him to comfort himself as deep down, he craves others to stay with him. Especially since most of his old friends and allies left. And Khonshu is in jail.
Marc is a sad lonely man who wants to embrace and be embraced. And don't want to let go. Even the people he recruited into the Midnight Mission was influenced by this inability to let go. They embraced him and won't let him go.
Sure they saw Marc die (this will change as usual), but they still didn't let him go. They won't let go of this image of Marc, the same way Marc won't let go of the mantle of being Moon Knight.
Which isn't exactly healthy because it is already bordering or is co-dependence.
Edit: Really, He is starting his own cult. And he may not realize it, but he is being seen as a type of god to them. A Personality Cult that worships him. Not Khonshu, him as the "god". A Jesus/Messiah figure in some twisted parody of Monotheism. Because if you are really devoted to someone as savior-figure, you turn it to a religion.
And Jake is a Cab driver, it is his job to travel and not be stationary. He keeps moving, he keeps travelling around New York. So Jake should be the Traveller purely because of the nature of what he does. Sure he helps them, but he also doesn't overly attach them to him. He comes and goes when and how he likes. Like the wind that keeps moving at it's own pace and helping the people he meets. Regardless of their class status. And most of them are the lower class that are left behind in society.
By not being overly attached, Jake can keep on moving and not confine himself to a single spot. Like some travelling sage or something who refuses to stay put.
There is freedom in travelling and Jake, with whatever little time he is allowed when he fronts. He doesn't have much time since Marc is pretty much tend to monopolize the body. Jake may feel imprisoned, since he pretty much is, so the moment he is travelling in his cab, he relishes every second of it.
Jake just wants the freedom to be himself and help others with it by his own accord.
That and Marc is pretty much limited to a place in New York. He is confined and can't travel outside of the city without alerting the Avengers. He doesn't travel, other's travel to him. Which is the opposite of what travelling is supposed to be.
Marc has to wait for the people to come to him. He waits. He should be called the Waiter, not the Traveller.
It isn't Marc, but Jake who embodies the concept of the Traveller, both literally, and metaphorically.
#rants#marvel comics#moon knight#unpopular opinions#my thoughts only#But seriously Marc actually hugged people#And Jake's whole shtick is that he is a driver who travels around New York#Their roles should be reversed#marc spector#jake lockley

For the ask game, leliana? I'm gonna be 100% honest I've seen a lot of people hating her recently and seeing as she's one of my faves this is the perfect opportunity to force some positivity about her. Sorry!
congrats, I had to have a real hard think about what to say for this one. the thing about leliana is that she's a character I like a lot more in theory than I do in practice. actually I have very little positive at all to say about the way she's been handled in practice. but, like with aveline in the last round, I don't want to cop-out and talk about missed potential (and god was there a lot of potential left on the table with leliana), nor do I want to say "unfortunately her sexy spymaster makeover in inquisition did in fact kind of do it for me (despite it being the exact same girl next door to sexy spymaster makeover they already gave liara in mass effect, which also unfortunately kind of did it for me)." see, I've already failed right out of the gate on this one. I'm being negative. but you know where I'm coming from now.
what I do really love about leliana in origins is how fully she is just doing her own thing. the wide-eyed girl who received a vision from her god and, come hell or high water, is going to follow her own goddamn interpretation of what that means—that's the leliana that compels me. she's weird, even off-putting. she's been set adrift and she's clinging to the one thing that is keeping her going, and she does not give a fuck if anyone else agrees with what she's about—she knows what she's about. that's between her and her god.
this does carry forward into leliana-as-divine, and it is also what I like about leliana-as-divine. the maker says mages deserve rights, elves deserve rights, and the divine deserves to bone down nasty style with her wife. don't agree? sorry? I just asked the maker and he says he agrees with me, actually.
I would like to see more folk beliefs flowering like weeds around andraste's feet. any fantasy religion based on catholicism that doesn't also invoke folk catholicism is, quite frankly, doing it wrong. but you get glimpses of potential there for leliana's weirdgirl heresies.
