▍▍▍       WHO  IS  TIANA  ROGERS  MALDONIA?

there  is  a  young  women  who  carries  within  her  a  dream  she  had  inside  since  she  was  a  very  young  girl  passed  down  from  her  father:  the  dream  of  opening  her  own  restaurant  ,  a place  that  would  both  bring  the  community  together  and  have  people  travel  from  miles  around  just  to  get  a  taste  of  her  food.  circumstances  beat  her  down  a  bit  ,  but  why  wouldn't  they?  tiana  rogers  was  only  human.  she  worked  two  jobs  her  entire  life  to  try  and  get  ahead  against  a  system  that  wanted  to  keep  her  chained  down  and  on  top  of  everything  she  met  a  spoiled  little  rich  boy  who  got  himself  tied  up  with  the  shadow  man  and  tiana  was  turned  into  a  frog.

becoming  a  frog  was  not  the  worst  fate  for  tiana  ,  no.  being  transfigured  into  something  cooked  up  into  classic  french  cuisine  aided  in  changing  the  young  women's  perspective  ,  especially  those  in  wildlife  and  insects  after  encountering  ray(mond)  and  louis  along  her  travels.  but  ,  perhaps  tiana's  biggest  change  of  heart  came  from  the  hoodoo  queen  of  the bayou  ,  mama  odie.  at  first  tiana  did  not  understand  but  in  growing  to  love  naveen  she  did.  tiana  learned  that  if  you  solely  focus  on  a  task  and  ignore  other  aspects  of  lore  that  will  not  grant  you  happiness  ,  it  will  not  grant  you  the  very  dream  you  most  desire  to  become  reality.  and  in  realizing  her dream  she  learned  that  sometimes  hard  work  is  not  always  the  only  path  to  tread.  a  little  bit  of  magic  and  a  whole  lot  of  love  can  carve  out  a  happily  ever  after  ,  making  new  orleans  a  place  where  dreams  can  indeed  come  true.

▍▍▍       KEEP  IN  MIND  FOR  INTERACTIONS:

O1. by  default  ,  tiana  is  twenty-nine  years  old.  she  has  been  in  the  restaurant  business  for  nearly  a  decade  at  this  point  and  has  three  other  locations  across  the  usa  and  one  in  maldonia  as  well.  while  ,  still  a  cook  she's  taken  a  bit  of  a  backseat  to  focus  moreso  on  the  administrative  aspect  of  restaurantiering  but  regularly  hosts  dinner  parties  for  a  plethora  of  charity  events  ,  getogethers  with  other  disney  princesses  ,  and  intimate  family  gatherings. O2.  her  current  canon  point  is  set  during  1930s  america  ,  during  the  middle  of  the  great  depression.  to  go  along  with  the  above  tiana's  palace  regularly  gives  back  to  those  in  need and  any  food  that  is  not  sold  by  the  end  of  the  day  is  donated  to  soup  kitchens  and  directly  served  from  her  restaurant  as  well  ---  nobody  is  ever  turned  away  if  they  can  not  pay  ,  being  in  tiana's  palace  is  akin  to  being  inside  her  own  home. O3. after  being  turned  into  a  frog  ,  some  of  the  curse  still  lingers  inside  tiana  and  it  grants  her  the  ability  to  communicate  still  with  animal  kind.  due  to  this  ,  tiana  has  unironically  found  herself  leaning  more  into  cooking  with  meat  that  comes  from  more  halal  practices  and  uses  every  part  of  the  animal  if  she  can  ,  nothing  is  wasted. O4.  she  is  a  princess  in  formality  and  title  only.  while  she  and  naveen  attend  various  political  affairs  as  needed  ,  for  the  most  part  she  takes  a  backseat  to  the  ruling  of  a  nation  side of  maldonia.  though  ,  she  is  greatly  loved  by  the  people  of  new  orleans  and  maldonia  ---  the  people's  princess  if  you  will.

▍▍▍       WHAT  HAS  SHE  BEEN  UP  TO  RECENTLY:

default  verse  ( open ): ten  years  post  movie  making  it  the  mid-1930s  tiana  has  managed  to  stay  afloat  and  open  three  locations  across  the  united  states  (  her  original  ,  in  new  orleans.  the  next  ,  in  washington,  d.c  ,  and  her  latest  is  located  in  los  angeles  ):  while  she  has  mostly  taken  a  back  seat  to  the  front  end  operations  of  her  restaurant  empire  ,  tiana’s  palace.  she  has  been  known  to  visit  the  various  locations  fairly  often  —  when  she  is  not  being  called  to  political  events  as  maldonia’s  princess  with  her  husband  ,  naveen.  (  if  i  write  with  a  naveen  this  detail  will  be  omitted unless they say otherwise!  ) pre  movie  verse  ( plotting  preferred  ):  before  the  events  of  the  movie  wip

▍▍▍       WHERE  TO  FIND  HER:

the  vast  majority  of  my  interactions  i  imagine  will  take  place  in  either  her  restaurant  ,  somewhere  in  louisiana  ,  maldonia  ,  or  the  countries  of  other  disney  princesses.  though  ,  i  have  no  preference  if  they  meet  while  tiana  is  attending  a  political  meeting  in  maldonia  ,  in  the  middle  of  service  at  tiana's  palace  ,  during  the  events  of  the  movie  ,  as  a  frog  ,  or  even  in  more  modern-ish  setting.  my  default  verse  is  perhaps  the  most  versatile  in  terms  of  location  but  i  am  always  down  to  discuss  and  bounce  ideas  off!

▍▍▍       DESIRED  INTERACTIONS:

O1.  anything  dealing  with  other  disney  princesses  ,  i  specifically  love  their  interactions  in  wreck-it-ralf  2  and  how  old  school  disney  characters  used  to  hangout  in  'house  of  mouse'  that's  the  kind  of  vibe  i  am  going  for!  i  also  would  love  for  tiana  to  meet  pixar  and  dreamworks  characters  too!!! O2.  i  love  the  concept  from  the  twisted  tale  series  and  other  works  that  feature  tiana  and  i  welcome  crossovers.  anything  that'll  allow  me  to  explore  tiana  in  things  outside  of  the  scope  of  the  movie  would  be  grand.  as  well  as  her  adaption  to  the  changes  of  basically  going  from  a  regular  ol'  girl  to  royalty  overnight.

O3.  naveen.  as  well  as  other  canon  cast  members  from  princess  and  the  frog  but  especially  naveen.  i  do  enjoy  their  banter  and  the  opportunity  to  expanded  on  their  dynamic  ,  outside  of  romance  ,  would  be  fun.  with  that  being  said  also  anything  that'll  have  her  balance  her  duties  as  a  princess  as  well  as  a  ceo  :  i  think  it  would  be  fun!

▍▍▍       ANYTHING  ELSE  TO  KEEP  IN  MIND?

while  some  canon  libraries  have  been  taken  with  tiana  as  a  character,  primarily  revolving  around  her  current  canon  point  as  a late-20s  women  and  how  she  has  faired  with  her  business  as  a  restauranteur  and  political  princess.  she  is  older and  wiser  but  she  is  still  the  tiana  we  all  know  and  love  from  the  princess  and  the  frog  and  all  the  more  hard  working  and  kindhearted.

i  pull  from  any  and  all  of  tiana's  appearances  ,  maybe  it  be  from:  the  movie  ,  sophia  the  first  ,  twisted  tales  ,  once  upon  a  time  ,  audiobooks  ,  and  tiana's  banyou  adventure.  i  have  poured  a  lot  of  love  into  developing  tiana  over  the  years  and  continue  to  do  so.  i  reference  the  movie  and  other  bits  of  official  crossover  material  a  lot.  i  tweak  tidbits  here  and  there to  better  form  a  narrative  and  overarching  story  and  to  drive  character  development  above  all. i  am  most  aligned  with  extensive  emotion  driven  interactions ,  and  though  i  do  not  mind  one  off  ask  memes  for  those  that  are  not  as  into  plot  heavy  novella  style  threads.

On Saturday I went to the Indian Brewery by Snow Hill in Birmingham with my friends Caroline and Robert. Whilst it is listed in the Desi Pubs books I am not going to be able to rate it…

The main reason I cannot rate it is that I didn’t have a mixed grill. The only mixed grill on the menu was a sharing one at £24.95, there was no ‘regular’ or ‘standard’ and my dining partners did not fancy a mixed grill.

There could also be a debate if The Indian Brewery is actually a Desi Pub! It is clearly owned and run by Desi (or Desi heritage) folk, but the clientele were all white. There were also no television screens which whilst not necessarily a defining feature in some people’s eyes, virtually all Desi Pubs I have been to have screens showing sport. The Indian Brewery is not in an old boozer, which again virtually all Desi Pubs are and feels a bit more restauranty. It certainly does do beer though, in fact they own a brewery as you might have guessed from the name.

Interesting David Jesudason also discusses the question in the Desi Pubs book (pages 104 to 107). David suggests that the Indian Brewery and its food and drink move away from the kind of offering Desi Pub customers can expect and that a lot of people who frequent Desi Pubs don’t feel comfortable in this kind of setting. David does, however, think this may be the future of Desi Pubs! David also discusses Bundobust in this section, which is an interesting read.

All of this is not to say I didn’t enjoy the food - I did, my mini kebabs on naan were delicious as were the shared starters. I had a nice chat with them and it turns out we went on their 9th birthday - so Happy Birthday Indian Brewery.

The weather in Malaysia is very changeable, from 20 degrees Celsius and sunny at noon to thunder and lightning and heavy rain in the afternoon. The daily life of home, school and restaurantis a bit boring, but I believe this is only temporary until I get busier with my studies or meet new friends.

Last night, i watched a movie. It was about two teenagers; they both have cancer, but the boy is positive about life while the girl is negative about life.They meet each other, and then the girl is affected by the boy; she starts to see the beautiful things in her life.I am so moved by the movie ,though the ending of the movie is not perfect, we see the change in the girl’s life.The topic of the movie is to tell people to be positive about life, no matter what happens—even the bad fortune—because they still need to smile every day. People need to find the beauty of life,so they won’t life live without meaning.

an overview about my rendition of princess tiana , i will expand further on these concepts in the future but this is just to serve as a general overview on how i write tiana :)

♕ — by default , tiana is twenty-nine. she has been a restaurantier and ceo for a decade at this point and knows her way around a kitchen or two very well. she has three locations of tiana's palace ( new orleans , washington, d.c. , and los angeles ): and is world renowned for her southern-creole cuisine. while politically she is a princess of maldonia naveen and his parents never enforced many of the moreso royal rules onto her and the pair take a back seat but do show up for political balls and also run a charity!

♕ — tiana has learned near fluent maldonian ( in modern terms: she can speak french and portuguese and by extension can understand spanish to a degree ): her accent is a tell-tell giveaway as naveen's parents have fondly commented that she speaks their native tongue with a creole flair.

♕ — while patf did not touch much on the racial undertones of the 1920s... i will be doing so , a lot. while i like to imagine for black folks of the time period that tiana's family was 'well to do' in comparison... they where still black and even with more disposable income than most , still could not afford much of the luxuries that whites where.

♕ — tiana's friendship with charlotte is so important to me. the love and care they have for one another is so lovely. paired with the above i like to imagine without question that charlotte and eli ( her father ): would've happily gave tiana the money for the down payment but tiana being tiana wanted to work for it. it was why she'd accept money for making beignets for the masquerade party instead of accepting it with nothing to offer in return.

♕ — tiana kept the ability to talk with animals and yes, she does keep in contact with ray's family and louis ( he still plays 1st chair trumpet in her original restaurant location, everyone thinks it is a costume ).

♕ — inspired by this piece of fanart, after transforming back into a human tiana kept some wart-like marks across her back and legs -- while not as big as in the art they are there and when asked, she simply refers to them as birthmarks.

♕ — after being in the restaurant industry for so long tiana has all but killed the pain receptors in her hands, meaning that she can take hot ass pans put the oven with no gloves or touch a grate accidentally without flinching immediately. while she does rub special creams on her hands and regularly keeps her nails manicured, she has no personal grievances with the calloused skin -- to her, it is further proof that all her hard work paid off.

♕ — while tiana is a heterosexual women, during her adolescence her and lottie got curious at a few sleepovers and fooled around a bit but it never amounted to much of anything, the two do not speak on it but have acknowledged it. they are very sister like but still may share a friendly kiss or two on the lips. while the twenties did not have the term i like to think tiana would be demiromantic.

♕ — hoodoo and voodoo while different, in patf are treated as one and the same. tiana is a christian women that has learned some hoodoo from mama odie, when she is able to make the visit to see her. this was done moreso out of politeness than tiana's own desire. while, she doesn't speak of them openly ( besides with lottie and naveen ): she does not think the ways of magic and other holistic practices take away from her religious beliefs but such topics are taboo outside of her closely guarded circle.

♕ — after becoming princess of maldonia, tiana did more than just open her dream restaurant, with her husband's assistance she bought up her childhood neighborhood and had every single house rebuilt from the ground up. she also became a major advocate against the beginning practices of red lining and gave jobs to those that desired, while also paying them fairly. if you worked for tiana, you ate almost better than the clientele.

recipe notes:

broiling eggplant takes ages, especially if your eggplants are enormous; get started early

when you've made a special trip to that grocery for fresnos, don't lose them on your walk home (ʜᴏᴡ.)

if you do lose them, add chile flakes to the tomato paste mixture, probably.

used, effectively, 1000g of eggplant for roasting and cubing; easily could've used substantially more. 1500g? 2000g?

yottolenghi dishes are restauranty in many ways, including their use of oil; as a home cook, where it's emulsified it's fantastic (the oil in the tomato paste mixture), and where it's not emulsified it's less great (the oil/eggplant/parsley mix), so... use appropriately.

did not use shells, but instead used casareccia. i felt that 12.5oz (350g) pasta for 5 servings (plus the 1000g roasted) was a bit on the too saucy side of the sauce:pasta ratio, and i think of pasta + sauce as vegetable stew with some carbs floating in it. i might've felt differently if i'd used shells, though; i wonder that they handle the sauciness more gracefully.

like collard greens, eggplant can take a lot of salt. no, more than that.
