Going on dates vs. dating

Two people can go on dates without being in the dating stage of a relationship. Dates are occasions where two people spend time together and in the process, get to know each other. When people are going on dates, it doesn’t mean that they are dating or in a relationship. It just means that they are going on dates.

When two people are dating, they’re in a committed relationship. They use labels like boyfriend and girlfriend. People who are dating go on dates, but the stage of the relationship is different from people who have just met who are going on dates.
