Despite the torrential downpour, I braved the city streets (if you live in the New Orleans area, you know) to visit Mawi Tortilla to sample its gallo pinto and talk to its chef/owner Will Avelar on all things beans, and in particular Camellia Beans.

Of note, the restaurant is now serving red beans and rice, but it is meatless and in a twist inspired by his father, it is served with slices of avocado and pupusas.

hard to take photos of garden but i did my best :)

doing a little 'chaos gardening' this year, which i think everyone should clap for me since i have OCD. foreground bed contains the three sisters of various types...like six different types of beans, pumpkins (or butternut squash? idk they were seeds i harvested from something lol), zucchini, a couple different tomatoes, and peaches and creme corms :) one of the beans i planted is the traditional red bean used in cajun cuisine, though they are just ones i pulled out of the bag i cook with so idk if they'll germinate. worth a try though

the other bed only has a habañero and an eggplant right now but i might just throw some old random seeds in there from my seed box and see what pops up. and maybe more corn?

i like gardening but i am Not a crop farmer by any means. if i can't just throw it in the ground and forget it, it can't be my responsibility. kyle was supposed to be more of the garden guy and have an actual kitchen garden but it didn't work out last year for various reasons (none of which i hold against him, c'est la vie etc) so this year i"m planning for that contingency. easy stuff i know we'll eat only. fortunately we love beans, squash, and corn lol

it's honestly quite late in the year for us to be putting in a garden but life happens and we're just doing our best. the corn may not corn in time but it'll support the beans so that's all that really matters i guess

oh no buddy youre completely good with the asks i loveee reading your father son's asks!!!! they always make me start grinning. i think grogu would definitely like, taper off listening to the recording's the more he got into the "mission". he mmost likely didnt even realise that he like, stopped listening to them, but even if he did he'd probably chalk it up to just being so focused on the task at hand and not at all that feeling of guilt that claws up his spine every time he thinks about his father, or anything like that
