thinking about treasure being silent for days, too scared to open their mouth because they’re cursed to ruin things with every word that spills out, even when they just want to help

thinking about treasure wondering whether he’ll ever come back or if he’ll just disappear like everyone else did when they got sick of their anxieties, their insecurities, their need to fix everything around them in hopes it might heal them too

thinking about treasure rehearsing what they might say if he came knocking again, a thousand different apologies running rampant in their mind and not enough strength to utter a single word

thinking about treasure, certain that they’re the reason he’ll never trust again, never open up to anyone the way that he almost did with them

thinking about treasure wishing him the best, sure that they’ll never see him again but praying he’ll find the happiness he deserves, even if it won’t be with them

My Redacted Listeners Things Cause I Should Be Asleep.

Lovely

Aged out of the foster system. They tried reaching out to family once before their 18th but either got ignored or told to stay away. They feel bad about being upset after their turning because "It's not like there was anyone being left behind."

Treasure

Their house decore and clothing are primarily yellow. It's a happy color. Nobody likes a Debby Downer. Gotta surround yourself with happy things, ya know? "Gotta keep smiling, or people will go away and leave you behind again. "

Angel

Used to being yelled at and physically reprimanded when they've been "too much" in the past. They now have blinders to quiet irritation/ rage. (It's gotten better since moving in with David but took adjusting.) "Can't really be mad if you're not raising your voice."

Freelancer

Would wait till the dead of night to cry silently into their pillow. It bothered people when they cried in public. Especially their parents. Often enough was told to "Fix your face before I give you something to cry for."

I think it's kind of ingenious that Erik started off with unempowered listeners and slowly introduced us to the urban fantasy world he created. (Lovely, Angel)

Freelancer is our first look at an empowered listener. And with their first appearance is our first look at D(a)emons with Caelum.

Lovely's powers manifest and we learn that unempowered people have a slim chance of actually being empowered. (It's not lost on me that not long after that Aftermath we get a check in from Marcus where they'll have to be separated for weeks*)

Then we get Sweetheart who is a Stealth and gives us a deeper look at non-elemental magical races. And specifically insight into working adult empowered life.

We're also introduced to new Demon types (and learn what happens if an Empathy Daemon loses themself) but it's through already established magic types and unempowered humans.

Our next new empowered listener is Darlin, a shifter. A werewolf, a wayward member of the Shaw Pack. (I'm not counting Bestie yet because we still don't know what kind of Empowered they are)

Our next step is being introduced to a Demon listener with Warden.

We're introduced to a new type of Elemental during the E&E qualifiers through Freelancer

And finally we have a Telepath and Seer listener with Cutie and Obscura, magical types we've heard about, even seen a little of through James in PM
