Recycle Your Old T-Shirts and Create A Personal, One-of-a-Kind Quilt
If you have some sewing experience and a bunch of old T-shirts, you can turn those shirts into a quilt!
A while ago, I shared a tutorial for recycling old clothes into home decorations. In it, I mentioned a popular trend for recycling old graphic T-shirts: making a quilt. I’d always liked the idea; it seemed like a nice way to eke out more use from old clothes that aren’t wearable anymore. But I never seemed to have enough old T-shirts collected to make a decent-sized quilt. Well, after a recent…

Fabric bracelets part 2: embroidery
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These took so long but it was so worth it, I'm very proud of these
[Image ID: six images of three different fabric cuff bracelets. One is a blue/purple cuff with green wavy leafy vine embroidery that curls towards both ends of the bracelet. The design is on both sides of the spikes down the length of the bracelet, same placement as the others. All three bracelets have small metal spikes down the middle. The second bracelet is a desaturated red color, with a gray barbed wire design along both sides of the spikes. The third bracelet is a red and black flannel pattern, with a lighter silvery gray barbed wire embroidery in a slightly different style. The first barbed wire design is a little more stylized while the one on the black and red cuff is a little more realistic looking in its shape, but both are simplistic designs. All bracelets have button closures and three buttons to allow the wearer to adjust the size. All bracelets are roughly 9-10.5 inches long when open and flat and 2.5 inches wide. End ID]

“I am wearing the latest design from my tie series entitled The Snake Tie from my brand I Feel Like Bambi, paired with some of my favorite thrift finds. I sew the ties from up-cycled suit fabrics, so they’re completely sustainable which is very important to me. I would say my style is inspired by stories and characters. I like to dress based on how I’m feeling and what I’m thinking about. I also made The Friendship Tie, The Lover Tie, and The Loner Tie. So naturally I wanted to make a piece about someone who was a snake to me.“

Y'know, that thing about stealing/taking/being given one of your boyfriend's hoodies? Yeah.
I've done it twice myself lol. If you saw the hoodies you'd understand, they're very comfy.

It’s ALWAYS when you recover enough from an episode of severe burnout to have the mental energy to complete your 70 unfinished projects that the crotch of your pants have the damn NERVE to start to rip at the crotch. Why.
To add to the already huge pile; my friend needs their pants repaired because the material is getting thin. ‘Tis the season for your hooch to see the outside world I suppose.

I can't switch this part of my brain off now.
I was happily watching the trailer for The Heart Killers earlier this evening, not recognising any of the clothes and therefore hopeful that we'll be getting an 'original' costume design...and then I watched today's ep of Kidnap and as soon as I saw the trailer for ep 10 I knew I had just seen this lime green and white striped polo shirt 🤦🏽‍♀️

A staggering 60 million tons of polyester are produced annually, for things like clothes, couches, and curtains. That polyester production takes a toll on the climate and  environment, as only 15% of it gets recycled. The rest ends up in landfills or incinerated, which results in more carbon emissions. “The textile industry urgently requires a better solution to handle blended fabrics like polyester/cotton. Currently, there are very few practical methods capable of recycling both cotton and plastic—it’s typically an either-or scenario,” explains postdoctoral researcher Yang Yang of the Jiwoong Lee group at the University of Copenhagen’s chemistry department. “However, with our newly discovered technique, we can depolymerize polyester into its monomers while simultaneously recovering cotton on a scale of hundreds of grams, using an incredibly straightforward and environmentally friendly approach. This traceless catalytic methodology could be the game-changer.”
