some steady ways to recover from an 3ating D1s0rder :)
tip 1 : monitor your thoughts. Back then when i’ve had severe bulimia, i’ve had negative thoughts flooding my mind and they almost seemed impulsive or intrusive. Everytime i looked at food all i could think about were negative thoughts. Some ways to combat this is to accept that you are not your thoughts. Accept the thought, let it pass, and replace it with a positive one to combat it.
Ex : “i really need to stop eating so much…” to “my body deserves to be nourished and taken care of.”
tip 2: i know how difficult it is to increase portion because of how stubborn our minds have gotten. They say that mental strain is more torturous than physical strain. If you’d like, try to eat healthier foods but more often, and reward yourself with chocolate once/ twice a week. It can make our hearts feel heavy with guilt, i know, but it’s also helping our heart beat is it not? try to respond more logically than emotionally and slowly increase food intake by eating healthier stuff more often. Have junk food on weekends (babe i promise you don’t gain from eating junk on a weekend, our body’s don’t work like that!)
tip 3: Let’s be realistic. We’re more likely to gain weight faster if we starve ourselves since our body is doing whatever it can to cling onto calories since you’re not giving it enough! so in order to recover from this slowly without triggering yourself or gaining weight, **slowly** increase food intake. have around 4 meals a day and i’m not saying a single cucumber or strawberry but make yourself a small dish. Your appetite must’ve shrunken from all the starving so to slowly help it accept food, have small dishes of food often. 4 to 5 meals of let’s just say a bowl of vegetables/ fruits/ protein is good. Carbs are also very important! Carbs give us energy to move and work throughout the day.
tip 4: You’re capable of setting beauty standards for yourself, we all are. It’s why we have beauty standards all around the world, for example : in most asian countries it’s beautiful to be pale while in western countries it’s beautiful to be tan! Beauty is NOT objective, it’s subjective. There’s many different flowers in a field, and all are beautiful but some prefer roses while others prefer daisies. So, instead of romanticising super skinny/ unhealthy bodies, let’s start romanticising fit bodies. Many fitness models eat a lot of food! as hard as it is to hear, they eat a lot of food but they balance it. For example they’ll have a lot of protein and vegetables and around a whole palm of rice, and that’s okay! that’s good intake for your body and it will maintain it.
tip 5: Workout! don’t get obsessed with working out or calories because general obsession isn’t good, well, too much of anything is not good. but working out has personally helped me recover since i felt less guilty about eating. walking everyday or running or home workouts are very beneficial. Eventually i stopped caring about calories as i grasped a more realistic idea of how our bodies work.
tip 6: Meditate. meditating is important to help calm our racing or impulsive negative thoughts. Practice void mediation or go on youtube and repeat positive affirmations (while meaning it.)
tip 7: Be kind to yourself! your body does a lot for you so return the favour and spoil it. Nourish and love it :)
tip 8: sometimes we are bad at advising ourselves so try to project yourself onto something else. Let’s just say you have a daughter who’s exactly like you and she’s suffering from the same thing. How would you treat her? the right thing to do is to reassure her and help her recover throughout her journey. that’s how you should treat yourself.

So. I disappeared. No, I’m not any worse. Actually, I’ve been trying recovery lately. Looking back on this blog made me realize how awful my mental health was. Things I have been doing that made me slowly start to recover and learn to be happier:
Get on meds that work. In my case, 100 mg of Lamictal
Trying ballet again. I had an injury early in childhood that caused me to stop dancing but now I’m trying to dance again. It’s hard and I lost my splits but the soreness is so worth the payoff I know I will happen.
Modeling. Sounds counter-intuitive, but it’s caused me to become more confident in how I can move my body.
THERAPY. I love therapy, and I’m so grateful I have the opportunity to have access to health care.
Acknowledging I will live past 25. And subsequently, picking a major/career choice that will suit my talents
Cutting all my toxic friends (including a shitty boyfriend) out of my life. ‘Nuff said.
Doing my best to embody Cinderella in everything I do (happiness, kindness, my small rebellion against my own evil stepmother
Listening to happier, or more upbeat music. Khalid, Ingrid Michealson, George Ezra
The mantra: “happy girls don’t restrict”. It’s a play on my old one: “pretty girls don’t eat”.
Sounds stupid, sound a little nuanced, but it’s what has worked for me. I’m still 128 pounds (straddling underweight for my height), can’t gain any weight without a freakout, and only really eat in front of people, but I’m doing better. I’m turning my hatred of my fat into a desire to gain muscle.
I’m going to revamp my blog now, I’m really hoping to make recovery friends though!

10 Recovery Tips 😊
Tumblr media
Get rid of any apps, books and posters related to eating, dieting, fitness, etc. Anything that mentions calories. Instead, fill up your bookcase with colouring books, puzzle books and recovery books and stick positive affirmations around the house.
Know that the disorder is not about food. It’s about control), hence the disorder is a cousin of other conditions like OCD and OCPD. Be sure to ignore any preoccupations you have about other aspects of the concept and tell yourself that you’re in control, but that it has nothing to do with food and that the thoughts are just bullies.
Take up hobbies. Sewing, knitting, colouring, origami, reading, listening to music- anything unrelated to exercise (for the moment).
Wear oversized, comfy clothes and quit using the scale. Because your stomach will likely be swollen, you will experience a small amount of bloating as you recover, so it’s best to wear cosy clothes, and remember that it’s only a temporary thing.
Write or read about how much better it will be when you’re recovered. Watch out for toxic blogs that contain contrasting content, e.g. positivity one day and thinspo the next.
Create a fun meal plan. It can be themed, e.g. blue food day, Mexican food day, Harry Potter food day. Make sure it contains all the calories and vitamins you need to make a full recovery!
Don’t scold yourself for binging. Binging is your body’s response to being deprived of proper food. Try to adjust your meal plan to make sure it’s keeping you satisfied.
Try eating your fear food. It may sound like a big step, but eating food you used to love is a great move forward. If you feel uncomfortable, you can get a friend to make sure you don’t try and purge it.
Fake it ‘til you make it. Even if you have mixed emotions, pretend that you are the most pro-recovery person out there.
Remember that the ED is not a part of you. It does not define you or shape you in any way. It is a monster and a bully and its “goals” are not yours.

reasons to recover!! and some helpful tips/qoutes/explanations on recovering ❤️‍🩹
1 find the beauty in food and enjoying food
2 higher confidence
3 realize that theres no "thin enough"
4 recognize that true beauty isn't achieved from being the skinniest but from feeling the happiest
5 become mentally stronger!!
6 trying to make food your friend, not your enemy
7 be content with your body image, accept it in its unique beautiful form. we cant all look the same and have the same body or life would be pretty boring
8 realize that most of what we try to tell ourselves when ed thoughts kick in are just glamorized lies
9 feel free spirited!! i can only imagine how much my ed has weighed down on me but recovering has made me realize that there is no standard for beautiful things <;3
10 (hearing this also helped me recover) think of yourself as a flower, you're surrounded by a ton of other pretty flowers but that NEVER made you any less prettier!!
11 "feeling guilty for eating is the same as feeling guilty for breathing" we've been taught to put away our basic needs :(
12 your self worth never depended on your weight, it only depended on your self acceptance. in my journey i got thinner and thinner but it never felt like enough, i never felt skinny enough or pretty enough so ive tortured myself over and over but that just proved to me that there never was "skinny enough" or "ill stop when im skinny enough" because having this mindset means you're never gonna feel "enough" no matter how much you avoid food.
13 dont you miss that freedom of eating whatever you want without worrying as a kid?
14 shift your focus on progress rather than perfection :)
15 perfection never existed!! we just deluded ourselves into thinking perfection could be attainable but why do you think you never felt "enough" no matter how thin you were? because perfection never existed in the first place. I believe everyones perfect just the way they are. There is no standard for "perfection"
16 (i thought this one was pretty cute) Think of your body as your best friend, its been through so much for you and i think its time to return that favor by helping it grow and rewarding it :)
good luck on your recovery journey!! its so worth it i promise💗💗 keep your mind open and always reassure yourself <3 (sometimes a little pep talk helps)

"Reasons to be skinny" - Debunked
- your collar bones will so cute in bras and tank tops
No, your collar bones will be hidden under your patchy, acne-ridden, crusty, peeling skin. Also, collar bones are just a part of your anatomy. Don't equate them to self-worth.

- your legs will naturally look more toned without having to work out
No, they'll look like knobbly sticks. You'll develop osteoporosis, your muscles will rot and the veins will stick out. You'll develop all sorts of problems.

- you can borrow clothes from anyone no problem, they’ll always fit because you’re so small
No, you won't be able to fit any clothes. You'll only be wanting to wear baggy clothes to stop people looking concerned and about 100000 layers to stop feeling cold. And no one would want to give you their clothes, anyway, since eating disorders make you exceptionally moody and snappy.

- trying on clothes in the store isn’t embarrassing, its fun now
Not if they call an ambulance or you pass out and hit your head on the marble floor. And with your ED, you'll never see yourself as underweight enough. Hint: choose recovery.

- youll look so elegant when you dance
No, you'll look very very poorly and you'll probably pass out after 10 seconds, anyway. You wouldn't be allowed to join a dance squad in the first place once they saw how ill you were.

- when you drink coffee it will actually work better because there’s less fat to distribute it to
That makes no sense, whatsoever.

- your skin clears up because you arent eating trashy foods
No, you will develop a lot of acne and your skin will discolour and start to peel.

- people will worry about you and cater to you
Yeah, you'll end up in hospital with a tube down your throat and family and friends blaming themselves.

- boys (or whomever you’re attracted to) will want ro protect you and hold you
No, you'll be the moodiest person around. If you did get a partner, they would most likely be trying to get you into hospital.

- no more swaying flab on your upper arms when you wave!
No more waving, full stop. No energy for that.

- the less you eat over time, the less hungry you will grow to be
That's false. There is always pain and symptoms. Always.

- youll have more money saved up to buy cute clothes or books or knick knacks instead of food
You'll feel dead inside, you won't care. You won't be able to concentrate. Also, food is delicious.

- you can sleep at night without hating yourself
Complete opposite. You'll hit an all-time low and probably get depressed and suicidal.
Please choose recovery. I know it’s not as simple as it sounds, but continuing to live under the delusion that there is a good point in your eating disorder is harmful.

Rant: Proana Blogs
I hate the whole “stay safe, I don’t encourage eating disorders” slogan used by proana blogs. If you:
- Post excuses not to eat
- Post meanspo or sweetspo
- Post food avoidance tips
- Post purging tips
- Post ‘imagines’
- Post and praise underweight bodies
- Post anything that makes being underweight sound positive and being a normal weight sound negative...
you are encouraging eating disorders. Please stop.

Back2School Recoverspo
Tumblr media
Being able to concentrate and much better cognitive processing
Being able to wear to buy cute clothes for school and not from the children’s section
Being in a good mood so having more/maintaining friendships and relationships (also, note for the future, your reproductive system not working can also become a symptom, as well as a higher rate of miscarriage and infertility, but that’s not to say that if this did occur it wouldn’t be able to be fixed once you fully recover)
Being strong enough to hold heavy doors open for people
Being happy enough to smile
Not getting stuck on the toilet in lesson time or actually having diarrhoea in the lesson
Not violently shivering or having your teeth chatter loudly when it’s slightly cold
Being able to eat in public
Being able to look in the bathroom mirror
Being able to eat without thinking about calories
Having better general mental health
Not having to have as much time off ill
Not having staff members call your parents because they’re scared for your life
Having nice teeth and gums (no dentist visits for scurvy, cavities, tooth loss, bleeding, etc)
Being able to sleep and wake up refreshed
Being able to do sport or walk fast without getting muscle strains and tears
Having nice hair (no hair loss, dryness or brittleness), skin (no peeling, dryness, acne or discolouration) and nails (no snapping or discolouration)
Not falling asleep in lessons
No burping from purging
People not whispering about how very unhealthy you look
Being able to eat real, nutritious food
Not having problems breathing, or even a heart attack
Not getting so dizzy that you fall over when you stand up
Not getting kidney failure
Not breaking bones or twisting things every time you slip or falter in the hallway
No migraines and no/less headaches
Being able to keep growing (especially if you’re a tween or teen)
No development of cysts on your ovaries (if you’re female or are yet to have that part of the ftm surgery)
No peeling lips, sore tongue or glandular swelling
Being less likely to develop other mental disorders
Having access to a wider range of emotions
This is by no means exhaustive. And while not all of these seem school-related, per say, they are things that come into everyday life.

Your ED will only end when you recover
There is no pivotal moment where you stop feeling guilty, moody, snappy, depressed and fat. Being underweight will only make the aches and pains worse and the hospitalisations more frequent. There is no time when you will be able to eat normally or feel happy and self-confident. Your ED wouldn’t allow that. It will persist until your dead.
Recovery is the only option that will lead to happiness and healthiness.
