Days like today my to-do list taunts me. It’s a simple enough list: dishes, litter boxes, laundry. But my body insists the list should read: sit, knit, pet the cat, above all rest. I can’t heal without resting, and I can’t get back to normal without healing. I know that. But it’s startling to discover that my silverware drawer has been ransacked, my healing abs ran off with my spoons, and I am becoming familiar with the deep exhaustion that follows what used to be easy tasks.

Recovering from lung cancer surgery ...
I am writing this in late January 2023. My experience with lung cancer began in early November 2022. I have posted several times on it and rather than rehash those posts, I have collected them onto a Page entitled – My experience with lung cancer so you can go back to any part that may interest you. The experience began in November and I had a ‘period of darkness’ that lasted eight weeks in…

Hi, everyone. After 4 days and 3 nights in the hospital, I was able to go home yesterday after my distal pancreatectomy…and I still have my spleen! *insert party noises here* Does this mean I’ll always get to keep it? No. It doesn’t. When the surgeon took the tail of my pancreas, he had to cut off the main blood supply to the spleen. BUT, there are 3 smaller blood vessels still traveling to the…

hello!! requests are open, right? could you write sana coming home from work and finding a sick nayeon in bed and them cuddling together? im sorry if requests aren't open and i hope you had a good day ☺️
Of course I can, Anon! 🥺 i love soft things. Thank you for the request and I hope you have a great week!
…
Sana shut the door behind her, calling out a careful, “Hello?” into the dark apartment. The only response she heard was Kookeu’s little paws tapping on the tile as he came to greet her. She kneeled down and scratched under his chin, setting all her stuff down.
“Where’s our Naeyonnie, huh, Kookeu?” She mumbled, standing back up.
She found it odd the house was so quiet; she knew Nayeon had gotten home an hour ago, since she’d texted her asking her to pick up a few things on the way home. Usually Nayeon was in the living room with the TV playing some new drama, or in the kitchen with music blasting.
She made her way towards the bedroom hall and stopped outside Nayeon’s room, knocking softly.
“Come in…” She heard. Sana’s brow knit.
“Nay?” She leaned into the dimly lit room, frowning at the sight before her. Nayeon lay bundled in bed, nose bright pink and cheeks flushed. She sniffled. “Oh, Unnie. Why didn’t you tell me you weren’t feeling good?” She quickly joined her on the bed, sitting next to her and brushing her hair back.
“Thought it was allergies.” Nayeon mumbled weakly. “So tired.”
Sana frowned, leaning forward to check her temperature with a forehead kiss – confirming she was burning up. She pulled back, holding Nayeon’s face in her hands and gazing back into watery eyes.
“Have you taken anything?”
“No.”
Sana kissed the tip of her very pink nose.
“Let me go get you some medicine.”
“Nooo...” Nayeon whined, holding her arms out. “Don’t go. Keep me warm.” She gave Sana such a pout she nearly laughed at her.
“I’ll be right back.” She kissed her nose again. “I promise.” And with one more forehead kiss, she swept back into the hall to start the kettle in the kitchen and grab some flu medicine from the cabinet. She was back in five minutes, in pajamas and holding a mug of tea and some medicine.
After a short delay and some convincing (‘I don’t like cherry cough syrup.’ ‘Nobody likes cherry cough syrup, you big baby, but it’ll help you feel better’), Nayeon was cuddled up under the blankets in Sana’s warm hug. Sana helped her drink a few sips of tea before she put the mug on an end table, turning to pull the girl closer and kiss her head.
“You’ll get sick.” Nayeon whispered into her neck.
“I don’t get sick.” She rubbed a slow hand up and down her back. Nayeon pressed closer against her, eyes starting to droop closed.
“That’s not true.”
Sana just shrugged. They lay in silence for a while, Sana comforted by Nayeon’s steady - if a little raspy – breaths, and Nayeon inching closer to sleep with every pass of Sana’s thumb over the exposed skin of her hip.
“Don’t go to work tomorrow.” Nayeon mumbled, fighting off sleep. “Just hold me. All day.”
Sana took a deep breath. “Deal. I’d love that.”
Nayeon hummed happily, cuddling into her. “I love you.”
“I love you too.” She whispered, holding her tight.

This is not meant in anyway to criticize those who make those beautiful pictures of the books they are reading. I know that takes time and artistry, and they are beautiful to look at.
BUT . . . do people know that? Like, people do know those are Instagram-perfect-staged, right? Nobody actually reads sitting on their perfect white duvet cover with a perfectly balanced cup of tea sitting next to their gorgeous hard back copy of their latest read. Nobody actually reads with a strategically placed gorgeously bright red maple leaf lying between the tea set and the novel. Nobody actually reads with sprigs of lavender poking out between the pages.
When I am reading, I am in my rattiest, oldest pjs sans bra, propped up in my messy bed with three pillows behind my head. My book is usually ugly and ratty either because I checked it out from the library or it’s so beloved its falling apart. Rarely is it the hard back (except for the aforementioned library book, but then it’s either long lost the dust jacket or its wrapped in that gaudy plastic). Real reading is . . . real.
So don’t feel like there’s something wrong with you if your reading time doesn’t look like an aesthetic. Those people take the beautiful photo, after getting the perfect lighting and the perfect set up, then they clear it all away. After that, they actually read the book.
