Secret Project WordCount Update.

After two weeks of packing, culling, rehoming items, weeding, and tree-trimming and removal, the last trailer load of ‘stuff’ and unclaimed furniture has gone to the charity opshop. We’ve just got the trailer to be stored during the build time.

Two days of recovery, and I’m still drowning in fibro-pain but my brain is starting to spin story ideas (yay!), so I’vewritten the first draft of the next scene for my current secret WIP.

My Dearheart bought me a new teacup to celebrate getting it (mostly) done in time for the diggers (and getting back to writing) – considering the conceter was very concerned we wouldn’t get it all cleared in time).

Mercy is crossed out and we obviously have that as her sample chapter, so what if Arya's next alias is "Joy"? He's been fighting and is covered in his and Dracula's blood and is absolutely beautiful. Look at him, owning his mistakes and then finally fully taking himself back. Taking his own name back Contrasted to the confrontation in his apartment where he's cowering away and still using the book as a literal weapon, seeing him remember he's strong and remember he can fight, and then turning that back on Dracula for himself is just *chef's kiss *

I hope you’re doing well with the storm. I wanted to ask about your thoughts about the Hephaestus crew and getting tattoos. (Mostly because I was getting a tattoo and thought “i feel like Eiffel wouldn’t be able to handle the pain of a tattoo… I should ask commsroom for her thoughts on this” lol)

i'm definitely with you about eiffel; he's got low pain tolerance and isn't exactly patient. i think he's the most likely of them to want to get a tattoo just because he finds it cool / for no particular reason, but he would wimp out at the process, and he wouldn't spend the money required for a good one. i wouldn't be surprised if he's got a bad tattoo he doesn't remember getting (but he definitely remembers dealing with the infection afterwards) though, and / or a weird squiggly line somewhere from a time he insisted a friend of his should give him a tattoo and then he flinched and yelped and generally made it impossible to actually tattoo him.

i think minkowski would get a tattoo, but it'd be something she finds tasteful, small and easily concealed, that she considers a private reminder of something important to her.

lovelace probably has a couple of tattoos - at least one that she got socially, maybe she went to get tattoos as a bonding experience with some of her friends from the air force, and i could see her getting one as a memorial for her crew.

hera... i've been going back and forth on. she seems like a person who would need a tattoo to be meaningful in some way, but i don't know if she'd ever settle on something and actually get one (assuming she even could, of course.) i've been thinking that, if hera got a body, the relative permanence of physical changes would probably freak her out for a while (she would have such a bad time the first time she got a haircut she didn't like) and i think she'd be extra sensitive to physical sensations; it's all new to her.

In a world slightly to our left, the internet-at-large could have done for Ready Player One/Two what they did for Danny Phantom: leaned into the bizarre, horrifying, and creative sff concepts that were raised offhandedly once and never mentioned again, jettisoned all the stupid stuff the annoying creator thought was a Great Idea and was not, and played around in a sandbox of horrifying and fascinating sci-fi ideas, and made it our own. I would be on the front lines. I have so much Spite Fanfic Ideas in me.

Unfortunately this did not happen, probably because the Danny Phantom characters are endearing while the Ready Player One characters are insufferable, so it would have to center OCs who are actually affected by the nuclear war mentioned in one (1) sentence of backstory and then never again, or who are poor and trying to stretch their budgets and eat a lot of beans and ramen in the real world and then these asshole “philanthropists” think serving them VR gourmet meals solves this, or who have their brainscans unknowingly copied into the VR world so their brainscan AI copy self starts to become a person of their own separate from you, or who are struggling artists trying to make something new in a stagnating culture in the vice grip of a dead billionaire’s obsession with his own youth, or those Alpha Centauri babies, or…

we could do it though I believe in us. This is an unintentionally fascinating sci-fi world ripe for all sorts of Capitalism/VR Horror
