Inner Peace
Tumblr media
(( What I was listening to while writing this: Eternal Blossom by karasu. ))
"AGAIN!"
The harsh voice rang out across the gardens, bouncing off the near low walls and rippling the lilies upon the brook. It belonged to a war-aged Pandaren man whom stood upon a short stage. He performed the sweeping kick again, nearly identical to the last one, and landed perfectly to watch his students do the same.
Among them, Kav wasn't the worst. Sweat gently beaded on her forehead and collected in her headband. Her shoulders, arms, and legs showed the signs of hours of training in the sunlight. The muscles cried out, begging to stop, but Kav wasn't ready to give up yet.
Since the slow rebuild of Pandaria during the peace, more peoples from all over had taken up residence upon the lands. Kav didn't live there, continuing to roam as she pleased to avoid being tied down to any one place, but at some point she found herself among the students multiple times a week to practice self defense and the many forms of martial arts.
"PUNCH!"
"KICK!"
It became a sort of rhythm. The master barked and order and the students had to follow through at the right time or get called out. Kav's mistakes did not go unnoticed and more than once she felt the thwap of reed on thigh or back or shoulder or arm. It didn't matter anymore. At first she feared it - the sudden sting of punishment for repeat failure - but it was all a part of the experience now.
A year ago she would have abandoned it at the first sign of pain, at the first bloody nose, or at the first sparring session. As she stuck with these stances and practiced balance, however, the memories slowly revealed themselves and her skills began to return. The bard had been decent acrobatics and blades before, but those skills had been repressed. As they surfaced in pieces over the months of classes, Kav found herself spending sleepless nights wrecked by the thoughts of what she had been through and what she had done to survive.
"TURN!"
The students, exhausted from the steady constant of movement, turned in unison to see the distant rain clouds closing in. With an honorable bow they finished their session with slow breathing and a reminder to find peace even through the mental and physical pain.
Kav didn't hurry to gather her things as the others did. Rain could calm down her swelling muscles, her puffy eyes, and hide the tears. Instead she settled upon the creek bridge with her little voice box and sent out a message.
"Today was better than yesterday. I think I am getting better at the technique. It ... it still hurts though. Surfing really never prepared me for this. Not that I've surfed much as of late." She scoffed at herself, rolling her eyes. "I hope you and yours are doing well. I will visit again soon, or you can always visit me. I know you love this place...."
She let that drift off before before she disconnected and shook her head. It was so stupid, her thoughts. Nothing had changed, yet she was still doubting. The elf slid her communicator back into her pack, keeping the channel open just in case, as the first raindrops hit the waters below her.
"Doubt, little one, must be balanced," the master's voice sounded in Kav's mind clearly. She slowed her breathing, closed her eyes, and allowed the rain to cool her warm skin and heated mind. The tears that gently flowed down her cheeks mixed with the waters, then dropped away. The elf calmed herself as she slowly moved her body into one of the many balancing poses. She wasn't a monk and definitely didn't plan on being one, but she could at least understand this teaching. Inner turmoil did her no good, but neither did running away from it.
After a time, balanced in the rain, Kav finally straightened and made her way to the inn she was to stay at that night. The next day she went to Stormwind with a purpose and enjoyed her night drinking and laughing, held steady right where she wanted to be, before she went on yet another long adventure away from her heart's home. Valdrakken sounded good.

i think the thing i'm most disappointed about with riordanverse fandom now versus like 2014 is not only has the fandom not gotten any less racist or queerphobic or ableist (in fact in some regards its gotten worse!) but now it's just boring too. like there's no fandom infrastructure anymore - the community these days is almost entirely source material-driven - and you deviate from canon even slightly people get weird about it. whatever happened to the post-HoO fanon boom. the fandom needs to get weirder again. and self-sufficient. and less offensive.

Please don't take this as me being angry or trying to be rude or anything, but this ask is... baffling to me?? For a variety of reasons, haha.
Like, I don't set out to create a "fandom" around my stuff when I do things, I just do them cause I feel like it and sometimes I get lucky enough that people enjoy it and feel inspired to create or talk about it! I'm not really trying to fill a void left by one of these "fandoms" by making a new "fandom" around things I make, I'm just doing stuff.
The idea of a stockpile of interests getting too big is also bizarre to me? Like... for an example of both things, you can watch Stamp on the Ground, it's chock full of all kinds of weird obscure interests of mine I just put in there because I liked them, and I since have many many more. There isn't really a limit to how many interests you can have!
Mentioning abandoning TF2 is also very funny to me because I kind of already did that once?? When I started drawing it again in 2023 I was coming back to it, the last time I drew anything for it was 2009. Twelve years where I didn't even touch it! Starting up again was the last thing I expected and yet here I am!
Which relates to the greater point I guess which is that my interests and inspiration don't just die and disappear, they just go dormant. They're always waiting there for the right cue to wake them up, and I can never predict when it happens. TF2 is the most recent example! But Vargas is a long-running one, I take huge hiatuses from it where I don't write or draw or think about it for a long time, but it's always there in the back of my mind. I went absolutely nuts for it around 2020 and then it went back to sleep for the most part, but I still get ideas every now and then. It's not gone. It's just taking a break.
All the things I like and make stuff for are like that. There are a few I don't see myself coming back to any time soon, but then again I thought that about TF2 and now I've made the most elaborate site I've ever made for it. I can't predict these things. What'll be next? I have no idea. MGS again? StarCon2? Ace Attorney? Or maybe it'll be something new? Who knows!
And I think describing one of those "fandoms" as crumbling and dying is a bit unfair... I don't think of it like that. I mean, I started Vargas in 2003 and I last updated it in 2021 and I'm still hearing from new people that just got into it! All the stuff I've made is still "alive" in that way. I do feel guilty in that transition period between one interest and another because I feel like I'm disappointing people who followed me for that one thing though, haha. But what can you do? Gotta do my thing! Follow where my heart leads me! Not everyone's going to be along for the ride, and that's fine.
(Those of you have stuck around through all my different interests, I appreciate you deeply <3)

I think one of the funniest things about the priorities of my creation is that in a mech I am excellent at my job, while out of my mech I am a mess of genetic mistakes. You would think I would be any kind of useful out of a war machine, but my vision is actually quite poor even with ocular implants and I require mobility aids to get around outside my mech. I suppose physical fortitude isn’t so important as mental fortitude for a thing like me.

"That's part of the job, by the way. It's best to keep an open mind."
Edward Deegan // Fallout 4. // Professional, reliable, and capable. Originally hired by the Cabots in 2058, Edward serves as a general aide, maintaining family property and day-to-day details — In other words, he keeps their groceries stocked, the generators running, and oversees other employees. Becoming a ghoul shortly after the Great War gave him the ability to continue working for the family for over two hundred years, and he's in no desire for a change in occupation.

Advice; About Pages vs Rules Pages
About Pages
An about page is where you describe information about your muse. It allows potential writing partners to see who they are and decide if they're interested in writing with them. An about page should ideally consist of the following:
Basic bio information (name, age, etc)
A short physical description (this is useful even if you have a fc image because you can describe how they may differ from the image!)
A short paragraph describing what they're like as a person
Any relevant history information
Of course, the more information the better, so you could write more than this if you wanted to! If you have a really long about page, having a short, condensed paragraph summary at the top of the page is a good idea.
An about page is also a good place to put any AUs you may have for your muse (or you could create a separate verses page!). For AU information, you should describe how your muse is different from their main verse.
You need an about page if you are writing an OC. Your OC is an original character, so you need to give potential writing partners that information so they can see what your OC is like. If your muse is canon divergent or AU based, you should also have an about page because people will want to know how your muse differs from canon before deciding to write with you.
If your muse is a canon character, you should still consider having an about page. This is because you're likely to have headcanons that differ from canon, so writing them down prevents confusion later on. It also allows people who aren't familiar with the character to learn about them so they can write with you too - this is especially important if you write for a small fandom!
If you're a new blog, writing about pages also demonstrates your writing ability and style, which can help you get your first interactions!
If you're struggling to write an about page, I have prompts for basic character information here.
Rules Pages
A rules page is where you write the rules for writing with you. Common rules are:
No godmodding (controlling your writing partner's character)
Age restrictions
The length of replies you want to write
Any topics you don't want to write
Some people also include a brief description of themselves here. It is a good idea to include whether you are under 18, 18+ or 21+ as many people have age restrictions in their rules.
Making a rules page is important because it allows you to set restrictions that potential writing partners can check before interacting with you. It also allows potential writing partners to check that you are compatible with them.
It's important to read a partner's rule page before interacting with them. It's surprisingly easy to tell if somebody hasn't read your rules, and people are unlikely to want to write with somebody who hasn't read them.
See suggestions of where to make about/rules pages here.
