I've been meaning to write to you for aaaaages! To tell you how much I appreciate your presence, your positivity, and your community-building here in the fandom. It's a real delight to have you on my dash! And I'm not sure: do you know how much you are appreciated?

I love how you involve us all in your process: you tell us what you're gonna post & you warn us what we can block (not necessary but always so considerate). I love how you communicate so enthusiastically and openly in your tags, and you are so generous with your praise! I've also seen you posting warm&fuzzy "asks" (today you're on the receiving end!), and that's so sweet!

To me, you are my own private UA because you have such amazing coverage. You know someone at almost every concert and get the details. You follow (or at least reblog) an incredibly wide range of people in the fandom. Following you puts my fomo to rest: even when I can't keep up with my dash some days, I know I can just check your blog and be up to speed!

And the little updates no one asked for... well, let me tell you, there are days when I'm just waiting for Shari to wake up, because while I didn't ask for them, I do loooove your little nutshell summaries! (another reason why to me you're an UA !)

I don't even know how to answer this. Gosh I'm out of words really. I really can't explain how much this message means to me.

I'm always think I'm annoying posting so much and I try to schedule post but still and that is why I make my tag warnings in case is too much.

This fandom is full of talented and kind people and I always try to write at least either a comment or praise or just thanking them. Is so nice that you notice.

Thinking about my CLASS ANTICS poll, I thought of another reason as to why I don't talk about my fics.

Now, this is my own experience, I don't speak for writers everywhere.

Okay, so, upfront, I'm always excited about a fic I'm writing. And if you notice, the most I'll say is "I just thought of an idea!" and don't expand on it.

Well, it's because before it didn't seem like anyone was interested in my writing posts. Couple of months back, I made a "favorite quotes" from my BotB fic and just deleted it because no one liked it or anything.

Same for my "There's Miruko, There's Rumi" fic. Made a detailed post, deleted it after.

Like I do have some posts still up about some of my fics where it's like my favorite scenes or summaries in a nutshell, but it is very disappointing that little people don't seem to like them. It is very disappointing to see many reblogs, but most be from myself.

I want to go into detail about my "Tragedy Wives" AU because I'm excited for the ideas I have plan for it, among other things.

At best, I feel like a couple of things... if the writing post isn't...

I wanted to talk about "Green Flames, White Fur", it was my first self given challenge and kicked off my love for BurnBunny. But even though it's a ship fic, it's also a fic about a rarepair and while Miruko is a popular character nowadays, it doesn't seem people care much for her being written with more feelings than just wanting to fight. Little people care about her actually having a relaxing day, or crying and someone giving her comfort. Genuine feelings!

At most, if it's not sexual, she has to be Hawks' bestie, she has to give the advice or be the one with the head on her shoulders.

Where was I going with this?

I do want to talk about my fics, I do. I do want to talk about an AU I have in mind and go into detail, I do. I want to talk about a completed fic, give you the process of how I wrote it, what's my thoughts on it, I do.

I just don't see the point sometimes...

The time you'll see me go into detail talking about a fic is when I actually post the fic's link and reblog it to my main here. And hell, most of the time I have to hype myself up for that.

Of course, I do invite asks and comments about my fics, but I don't wait on those because that is a rare occurrence someone will do that.

I’m making this post because my good friend @kaijuguy19 talked about if I should post this stuff on DeviantArt. But I’m nervous to do that(Yet I may do that. What is this AU about? The characters from Steven Universe going through the Tangled The Series storyline. I will be making some changes so that the story works.

What is Tangled The Series? It’s a followup series to Disney’s Tangled movie. It delves into the lore of the Tangled universe and has a big following.

Where can I watch Tangled The Series? It’s on Disney+. Just make sure to watch Tangled and Tangled Before Ever After first, just so you know what’s happening. (also for hot lady caine.)

I came for Tangled The Series, what is Steven Universe? In a nutshell: Gay space rocks cry and sing while a child has to deal with his mom’s shit. It’s on Hulu. ALSO WATCH THE MOVIE BECAUSE SPINEL IS BABY

Is this going to be a comic or a fanfiction? I am not completely sure. I don’t know how to draw, but I want to learn how. So it might take a while before the comic begins. Or I could just write it as a fanfiction. That works too.

Is this a work in progress? Yep.

Is this post an FAQ? No. It’s just answering some questions I predict you might have.

Who is Steven taking the place of? Rapunzel. Both have healing powers, both did not ask for their powers, both are the main character of their show, both have PTSD. It’s perfect!

Can we ask the characters questions? Of course! You can’t ask their future selves questions, though. Just where they are in the storyline at the moment.

Ah, I’m gonna be a total dag (keeping things Aussie regional here: translates as dweeb, dork, wally, etc.), cos @marimoduck​ has tagged a reblog of one of my works, and a commission and art work related to my works, as MarLaw. Like it’s a thing that exists beyond my own fanfictions and the few lovely folk that read them.

Whee! I know the pairing is more common in art, but you don’t know how excited I am by the very tenuous link and possibility brought to us by Inu and Neko having a conversation (via phone) in Law’s sub in chapter 982, because Marco is with Nekomamushi, and Law’s transporting Inuarashi and other Scabbards to Onigashima. 

Both are headed to Onigashima with crews that intend to meet!

(And, as an aside, look at all of Law’s crew above! We get a few more hints of them. Where’s Ikkaku? Bepo’s in the background. Shachi and Penguin close to Law.)

Back to my OTP or platonic is fine too. BROTP does it for me as well. I mean, it’s not too much of a daydream to fantasise hope that maybe the three doctors will at least work side by side at some point, right? Right? And maybe more. Like if Chopper gets to wear the Beast Pirates leathers...(then so does Bepo).

Anyway, I know there’s an age difference. I started writing before we knew Marco’s age, and, man he ages well. Seems like I should re-upload some of the MarLaw I took down, but below are links to some that are alive and well on AO3, all rated G-T.

Some WDDM and DS related Asks

I’m so awful about answering Asks (I’ll try to be better, I promise!!!), so instead of flooding everyone’s dash and posting a bunch of them right after the other, I’ll answer a chunk of them here.

(Thank you!!!😍) For me, usually the idea comes first, as was the case with “Under Lock and Key”. But sometimes the art inspires the story, like with this Felinette oneshot. Originally it was just supposed to be a doodle. And then I felt like it needed a companion picture. Aaaand then I added color. And then I wanted to add a couple of lines of dialogue. Which turned into a paragraph. Which turned into a drabble. Which... anyway, you get the idea. XD

This Ask is really just me on anon trying to get @midnightstarlightwrites​ to bump the rating ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)  lol j/k 😆 (UNLESS...)

Our plans are for the current fic rating to stay as it is. If we ever decide to post something that’s more mature, we’d post it as a oneshot separate from the main story.

We haven’t really explained the logistics within the story itself, but what we’ve always envisioned is that the top of his suit can MOSTLY come off.

When unzipped, Chat can shrug off the top half almost like a shirt, but the gloves prevent him from being able to fully remove it. So, in essence, he can’t touch her with his bare hands because ANGST AND PAIN AND TEARS 😭 It’s yet another barrier that keeps them from being able to fully join as one, just like all the other things in their lives that are interfering with them truly being together.

Anyway, in a nutshell (oh jeez, PUN NOT INTENDED, PUN NOT INTENDED!!!!), the zipper goes low enough for them to be able to... (*cough*).

Master Post - Key AU Information

So, I’ve decided that as my blog grows and information about this AU gets buried in old posts, I think it would be helpful to create a master post to organize all the information I believe is important for you to know. I’ll update this as I see fit. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask!

What is this AU about?

In a nutshell: Titled “The Structure of Blood”, this AU explores the story of an ill man known as the Creovorce; a highly intelligent scientist skilled in bioengineering, microbiology, and chemistry. With demented morals and untreated quirks, he used his sharp mind to fulfil his desired philosophy of equilibrium: a balance between life and death. Using a perfect set of similar DNA samples he found and stole (DNA from sextuplets of course; same genetic base with different acquired traits, a perfect variable), he created six living beings. Six living beings programmed to kill, to end life rather than to give. He created a new nature; not one of reproduction or procreation, but one of simply destruction. One wired to see and accept and understand the concept of death rather than life. 

The Creovorce created Otsumatsu, Karumamatsu, Kyoromatsu, Shishimatsu, Kuchimatsu, and Toramatsu (later coined by Osomatsu as their “anti” versions). His perfect little creations were finally awake and curious, quiet and observant as the young little lives that they were. However, it soon became clear that the Creovorce had programmed a flaw, one that could not be undone: for in their beating hearts was a strange bond with their DNA donors. If their original counterparts were to die, so too would their hearts stop. Distraught by his mistake, the Creovorce was desperate to undo this weakness, this imperfection. Taken by his growing episodes of insanity, the Creovorce could not stop the six beings from plotting their escape. It was only 7 weeks after their birth that the oldest four - Otsumatsu, Karumamatsu, Kyoromatsu, and Shishimatsu - successfully broke out of the lab. The youngest two remained trapped, and Shishimatsu vanished. From there, the older three reached out, trying to find their counterparts as soon as possible. Counterparts that didn’t even know they existed. 

The rest of the story is written in my documents (200 pages and counting), but isn’t fully available online or in comics.

Where can I read the comics for The Structure of Blood?

Due to personal issues and my fluctuating mental health, I don’t have much done - even after all this time. I’ve tried to start the comic three times over (all at different points in the storyline), but never finished them. You can read what I have here:

- This was the start of it all. It’s several years old (from 2017, so I was still in high school) and a tad bit cringy, and in the end I was just never satisfied with it. I got farther here though than I did with any of the others, so here are the links! Chapter 1 - Chapter 2 - Chapter 3 - Chapter 4 - Chapter 5 

- This is one that I worked very hard on at the time, and it looks the most official - but I haven’t had the motivation to finish chapter 2 yet. Who knows if I ever will. It starts out with the backstory of the antis, narrated by Anti Kara. (This is from 2018.) Chapter 1

- This is my most recent one, but still a few years old by now (from 2019). It takes place a little later in the story, AFTER the oldest four antis escape the lab and met their counterparts. They were recaptured with the help of Karamatsu (who by this point is acquainted with his anti, Karumamatsu), and Karamatsu is now in the lab with the Creovorce, busy contemplating some harsh lies. This one was drawn on paper in hopes of getting more production, though I haven’t updated it in some time. Chapter 1 - Chapter 2 - Chapter 3 

Who are the “antis”? (Detailed) 

The “antis” (a term coined by Osomatsu) are the six beings of destructions created by the Creovorce using the original brothers’ DNA. Although they possess adult bodies and the innate intelligence of a regular person, they are only seven weeks old. Despite their violent nature, they hold a child-like essence, being naïve, simple-minded, wide-eyed/curious, observant, and truly lacking bias. They still take naps and have some childish quirks such as rubbing their eyes when sleepy, twirling a strand of hair with their finger when bored or tired, staring at and studying faces closely when curious (like, to the point where they break boundaries), touching others’ faces when analyzing or observing, becoming rowdy right before bed, innocently mimicking others to understand the purpose of an action, and holding no boundaries between themselves and their counterparts (such as grabbing on to them, keeping them physically close, playing with their hair, etc).

Why do the antis all seem to hate Shishimatsu (Anti Ichi)?

Well, it started at the lab. As the antis were created, the Creovorce spent time and energy day after day studying them, testing them, loading them with information through tubes and wires. With every little flaw he caught - whether it be behavioral, physical, mental, emotional, - he took all of them back into the testing tubes and manually fixed. Although the tubes left them unfazed, it’s not like they liked it (or really the Creovorce, for that matter. Or each other. They weren’t very happy fellas.). So when it became clear that Shishimatsu had the most quirks (often emotional) that the Creovorce saw needed to be fixed, the others were pretty exasperated. Time and time, it was Shishimatsu’s fault yet again. Back to the tubes. Back to the tubes again. Oh, here we go again. The others don’t necessarily hate him for this, but it gave them someone to blame and make fun of.

As for the younger two - Kuchimatsu and Toramatsu - their hate stems from a different reason. When the antis sought to escape the lab and formed together, the plan was that all of them would make it out - it was the only way to defeat the Creovorce. It was all or nothing. None of them could rise against him alone, not when this was a person who knew them better than they did themselves. However, the plan fell through. Shishimatsu made a mistake while attempting to separate from the others during their escape, and the result was that Kuchimatsu and Toramatsu were trapped and left behind. As the others ran free, the younger two were left to grow their hatred together as their lives were put in danger in a situation that was out of their control. All because of Shishimatsu. 

Why didn’t Anti Jyushi or Anti Todo escape the lab at the beginning of the story?

Seek the answer above. 

Why do the antis cuddle with their counterparts when they sleep? Aren’t they supposed to be vicious?

This is a concept I’ve had since the beginning of the story way back in early 2017, but I realize I’ve never actually explained it here. The antis themselves are very light sleepers - they’re programmed to be alert and ready for a fight at all times. They don’t even dream at night. This increase in sensitivity gives the antis a special intuitive ability that aids in their protection: the ability to detect irregularities in a person’s heartbeat. When an anti sleeps with his head resting against his counterpart’s chest, he can sleep listening to their heartbeat. Even during their most vulnerable state, they feel a sense of control when they can unconsciously detect wakefulness, sleep, dreams, anxiety, excitement, etc. It’s commonplace for the anti to wake up multiple times during the night as their counterpart dreams and speeds up or slows down their heart rate. My friend described them as living baby monitors. 

It’s also likely they find subconscious comfort in hearing a heartbeat that matches their own. After all, if their counterpart dies, so do they. Even as violent killers, the beating signifies life and therefore hushes them slightly. 

Why don’t the antis dream?

Again, another early concept that I’ve never explained. It was supposed to be revealed later on in the story, but that’s taking too long. 

During the time that the antis’ bodies were still developing at the lab, they resided in testing tubes in a state referred to as “cunae” where they could not breathe air or experience full consciousness. As their growth progressed closer to their “birth”, the Creovorce took note that Anti Oso (Otsumatsu) had developed nightmares. As the nightmares began taking a toll on his development, the Creovorce saw this as a flaw and - just as he did any other “flaw” - erased it. From that point on, the antis lost their ability to dream. 

Otsumatsu remembers this. He remembers his nightmares. He doesn’t recall seeing or hearing anything, or even what they were about - but he knows he had them, and he remembers what they felt like. He remembers the feeling of helplessness and terror, but nothing more. He also remembers the point where they suddenly stopped. The “flaw” had been fixed. While he was aware that he was the reason they don’t dream, the others grew up not even knowing what dreams were.

What sexual orientation are the antis? 

The antis are being of destruction, and therefore find no use in attempting to procreate. Their sex drive is pretty much as dead as anything else that comes in contact with them. 

Sometimes it’s fun to imagine what a beast one of them would be in bed though~ I don’t blame you for that. 

Is the story for this AU actually finished?

Ehh that’s a complicated question. There are several story arcs in my documents that I continue to play around with and add to. Some arcs are complete, some are almost complete, and others continue to get added to over time.

Worst case scenario: years and years down the road when everyone’s abandoned this story/fandom and I’ve moved on to other AUs, I’ll just tell you guys how it ends (anyone who’s even interested in hearing anyway). I mean, I’ve seen unfinished AUs before and it drives me mad never learning how it ends or what happens. I’m way too nostalgic to do that. 

What is this blog’s relation to the timeline of the AU? 

It’s a little hard to explain. The official AU/story is its own thing. I even update the comic every once in a while (thought I’m not very consistent - which is my bad!) 

Meanwhile on the blog, I like to just pretend that the story already happened and now Anti Oso and Anti Kara (and sometimes the other four in some scenarios) are all just living with the sextuplets at the Matsuno Household. Since they have nowhere else to go, they’re allowed to live with them as long as they don’t kill anyone (and they get their sedatives every night). 

I always like to remind people that the scenario on the blog may be inconsistent with the original story. For instance, if in the AU Shonosuke had died, then maybe he’s suddenly back on the blog for comedic purposes or something. Or if Anti Oso moved to Australia in the AU and now he’s suddenly back on the blog, despite him moving. The blog isn’t necessarily canon - but feel free to ask what is and isn’t. 

Are there any other posts you think are important?

I think each post provides just a little more insight on the lives and personalities of the antis. My Tumblr blog was started in 2017 and has lots of early comics and stories you can scroll through (since this was originally an Anti Kara ask blog). There are some things that are even too old to have been posted on my Twitter.

Where did you get the idea for this?

I got the idea from...Animal Crossing! xD I always read the town bulletin for anything interesting, so there’s that! I also want to spread more positivity in this community, and I want to let people feel less afraid when it comes to gushing (I’ve seen many a post about people being scared to do so). Personally, I don’t find it annoying, in fact, you’re showing your enthusiasm/love for your F/Os and that’s real neato!

Is it a first come, first serve thing?

Another question that I’ll say no to. I will be doing scheduled reblogs and the like so that everyone has the chance to gush! I’ll try to read as much as I can (lol). However, even if a new prompt has been put up, you can still respond to older ones.

Q1: If you could write your character your way in their own movie, what would it be called, what style would it be filmed in, and what would it be about?       A1: She’s 100% not going to be the star of some action movie. I don’t know what title I’d give it, but probably a slow-paced melancholic movie focusing on character development driven narrative.

Q2: What would their soundtrack/score sound like?           A2: Pianos. Lots of piano tracks. Q3:  Why did you start writing this character?         A3: She just kind of happened. Getting into ffxiv, I wasn’t really expecting to come out of it with a new OC I’d be obsessing over. But as I grew more attached to the story and also came up with headcanons for the player character, Illya just sort of developed into her own character in my eyes.

Q4: What first attracted you to this character?         A4: Not sure if it counts but I was surprised just how much they made the player character so involved in the story, especially for an MMO. Her pro-activeness and continuously being willing to help and save others when I myself would have been too cynical to care made her endearing to me. 

Q5: Describe the biggest thing you dislike about your muse. A5: I’d like to think she’s a complex character, given how I spend more time thinking about her flaws than actual strengths.. but I do sometimes wonder if she’s too ideal or mary sue-ish. Her aesthetic of flowers, magic and purple has got to be the most overused and cliche combination of aesthetics imaginable. Also she stutters a lot, which makes writing dialogue in her POV slightly annoying. Q6: What do you have in common with your muse?           A6: We’re both introverted and have self-esteem issues. We’re also both rather pessimistic, though for her she’s pessimistic in her beliefs of whether she’ll be able to live up to the expectations of others, while I’m pessimistic about everyone in general. Other than that I think we’re actually rather different. 

Q7: How does your muse feel about you?         A7: Dunno. She’d probably be really scared of me, I think. Q8: What characters does your muse have interesting interactions with?       A8: If I had to go into detail about every interesting interaction she has I’d take another six hours to write but in a nutshell:  Meets her best friend and fellow WOL Laurelis near the start of ARR and grows more and more attached and comfortable around her as time goes on despite starting off rather wary and weirded out by her. Meets Alphinaud at the very beginning of ARR but doesn’t really bond personally with him until the very start of HW. They confess some time mid-Stormblood. She has interesting dynamics with other WOL OCs I have too, but they’re a topic for another day. Q9: What gives you inspiration to write your muse?     A9: Just my sheer love for her. I’ve grown to love her like I would any favourite character to the point she sometimes doesn’t feel like an OC anymore. Q10 : How long did this take you to complete?   A10 : Too long. Granted I tabbed in and out, doing different things all at once but I really shouldn’t have taken close to three hours to finish this.

To answer the question of my truly belonging to the Rumbelle fandom, I am happy to say I belong to several fandoms. Rumbelle was not the first. It won’t be the last, but if you doubt my membership, I should think my fics speak for themselves in that regard.

It isn’t lost to me that this message was sent as my works were being nominated, but that isn’t an accusation, only an observation. If I am as despised as the message suggests, then I will simply revel in my role as Gold in this little Storybrooke. He’s the best character of the lot, after all.

The Future of This Blog: A Retrospective, Or: Dubiously Useful Notes on the Epilogues

Q: What’s next for this blog?

A: Good questions!!!

The Epilogues may have killed me. They resemble two dogs who each put a sword through my chest and slew me with a Heroic death and a Just one, respectively. They are unfathomably powerful and should be feared by all. Genesis frogs lie destroyed in their wake.

I say this as someone who genuinely adores them and thinks they’re great. (For the most part, with a few frustrations and quibbles. I guess that’s Homestuck in a nutshell for you. ) I think they do amazing things.

I just don’t know what I want to say about them, or indeed, if I have anything to say.

Mainly, it’s that, as I suspected would happen, the landscape of Homestuck analysis has changed in their wake.

The original impetus for this blog, back in 2017, was that people were Wrong About Homestuck. People are still Wrong About Homestuck today, but in a totally different way, which I feel less equipped to engage with.

For the last few years, I think my primary motivation was to argue against what the Perfectly Generic Podcast has called “The It’s Not That Deep Crowd.” Those who saw Homestuck, especially Act 6, as meaningless random mess, or a failure born of creator laziness. My goal was to counter that by articulating the many themes and conceptual threads that give structure to Act 6 Homestuck, so that people would recognize how much is going on within it. In doing this, I grew to align myself with Team Homestuck is Good. I do think late Homestuck is much more good than bad, but in retrospect that wasn’t really what drove me. What drove me was frustration at the It’s Not That Deep Crowd (which was strongly aligned with Team Homestuck is Bad) for their refusal to engage with Homestuck, to recognize that it was trying to do specific, deliberate things. I would have welcomed someone saying that Homestuck ultimately failed, if they were willing to take on the complexity of that failure, but no one seemed to.

So I wrote a whole bunch of essays, some better than others, to try and get a sense of Homestuck’s thematic complexity out into the world somehow. I’d like to think I succeeded, though of course I wasn’t the only one.

Things are very different now, Post-Epilogues. The border lines of the fandom have totally shifted. First, the It’s Not That Deep Crowd have been pretty exhaustively refuted, in part because the Epilogues established from the get-go that, yes, we were indeed dealing with themes of metafiction, fandom, demiurgic oppression and personal potential. At the same time, many of those who were on Team Homestuck is Bad totally warmed to the Epilogues and returned to the fandom, while some part of those who were beating the drum for Homestuck is Good had a strongly negative reaction to the Epilogues, and now comprise Team Epilogue Bad.

I’m delighted by the former and wistful though not surprised about the latter. I’m just not sure how to engage with the new place we’re in. Previously, I felt I could explain things people didn’t understand, and help them more deeply appreciate Homestuck.

With the Epilogues, it’s more like: either you’re into it, or you’re not. There are things you have to think about quite a bit to understand, true, but I also think there are people who get what the Epilogues are going for and just don’t enjoy it.

Honestly? I find that completely understandable. As I alluded to above, the Epilogues carry an unfathomably powerful destructive, negative energy. They are meant as a provocation, a violent act of storytelling that Hussie codes Meat (okay, also Candy) and likes to do after a pause of any significant length. They deliberately tear down many of our hopes and dreams for these characters and offer a contrary opinion. I admire the audacity. I’m also completely sympathetic to being horrified by this.

The night the full epilogues came out, I finished them late in the evening and spent the whole night wrestling with a powerful, dark emotion. A kind of grief and awe and horror, all at the same time. It took me a long time to fall asleep, and when I slept, they were very uneasy dreams. In the weeks that followed, I remember thinking, over and over: I’m glad I gave this time to Homestuck, but I need a long, long break from it. I loved the Epilogues, but I don’t think I could ever read them again. I felt utterly full of Homestuck, and wanted not to write, think, or do anything more with it for a long time, until I finally digested the darn thing.

So, about how you’d feel if you gorged yourself on a hundred pounds of candy and raw meat in one night.

Others seem to have reported similar experiences. Dirk’s words about Detective Pony: a gripping, cathartic read, draining in the best way possible—these come to mind. I’m not surprised that fandom reactions have been so passionate, so overwhelmed, and so vehement.

So I find it harder to be critical of Team Epilogue Bad than Team Homestuck Bad. I think I understand exactly where they’re coming from. I may not see the Epilogues quite the same way, but I don’t really feel the need to tell these folks they’re wrong, either.

Weirdly, that means I don’t feel as strong a need to talk about the Epilogues. The ideas I wanted to put out there are out there. What there is to say about the Epilogues has already been said, by people who’ve said these things much better than I could. It feels like the community doesn’t need me anymore. My work here is done.

So I don’t know how much I’m going to continue writing here. This coincides with a drop-off in my internet activity in general and with me putting more effort into personal career goals. Plus, a break from Homestuck has felt like the right thing for the last month, and may be the right thing for a while.

Probably what’s most likely though, is that I keep reblogging the most interesting essays on Homestuck, and maybe offer my own opinion occasionally, in a much more scattershot, spur-of-the-moment way than before, if I feel like I have something to say.

I do have an additional short-ish Epilogue thought coming later today, for instance, so look forward to that.

The last thing I want to say here is: if you’ve chosen to declare the Epilogues non-canon, to erase them from your idea of Homestuck, and keep creating your own worlds, futures, and afterlives for these characters—

Not only do I support that, I think that might be precisely the point.

The Epilogues begin with a detailed discussion of the ambiguous and contested relationship they have to previous Homestuck canon, and are described as being “of dubious authenticity.” They are, explicitly, Homestuck fanfiction, while also being a continuation of the story. There’s really nothing else like them in literature. Sure, the Meat timeline is described as “canon” by merit of its connections to the Lord English story, but the bizarre, fanfic-like Candy timeline is entangled with it, as are all other possible realities. Ultimately the word canon ceases to mean “what is real within a given story” and becomes something far stranger and much more ambiguous.

How do we determine what’s real/canonical within Homestuck? It’s just as Rose teaches us: it’s what’s true, essential, and relevant. In other words, what is meaningful to us as readers. So, by definition, the Epilogues are as real as you want them to be.

I wrestled a lot with the discrepancy between the darkness of the Epilogues and the utopian, transcendent Gnostic themes that permeate Act 6 Homestuck. I think the answer is this: the utopia, the transcendence for these characters lie largely in what we, the readers imagine for them.

As writers and artists and fanfiction readers, we have always created the futures for these beloved characters, and that’s exactly what we’ll continue to do.

I mean, the Epilogues themselves are fanfiction, created by fans, presenting us with two very provocative AUs. It’s hard to get more fan-made than that.

It’s a nice way of solving the problem I alluded to here. Homestuck gets to have it both ways, and so do we.

Ikemen Sengoku x Reader - “Criminal Masterminds” [Crimelord AU] [Part 4]

In a world where the most powerful are the greediest, everyone has to fend for themselves. The rich stay hidden, normal citizens live their lives, unbeknownst to all the lies and secrets the most dangerous firms keep locked away. When a mercenary is sent to retrieve valuable information that is also searched for by the Oda forces and Takeda-Uesugi, paths cross, dilemmas arise, love, morals and important decisions become a threat.

“What are you doing here? What do you want from me?” Her throat was dry and tight, she didn’t understand why she felt so intimidated all of a sudden. The girl didn’t usually get fearful in front of people. But the man in front of her was unreadable -- except for the huge smirk he wore constantly.

Who were these people? What did they want? If they had any kind of power how come she didn’t know anything about them?

There were so many questions she had and so few were answered.

“You don’t wanna know how we are first?” He chuckled.

“No, I wanna know what’s your business here is first and if I’m remotely interested, then I’ll ask,” She mentally praised herself for still having her tough exterior.

“Smart move,” Nobunaga nodded, comfortably laying on her bed, he stretched his arms, placing his hands behind his head and crossing his legs, “in a nutshell, we want you on our side,”

“What do you mean?” He took a deep breath before continuing

“The people you work for are bad people, and granted, we aren’t the best of people either but we aren’t as disturbingly bad as they are,”  

“What makes you think I’m not one of them?” She dared, not wanting to seem desperate for an exit.

“Because we’ve had our eyes on you,” he licked his lips, savouring the anticipation that he knew she was feeling, “you see, we know you’re a high level mercenary that had been loyal to that company for a while now, and because of that, you’re on the higher class so you can choose you are not inside the company,”

“Yeah, so I’m an independent mercenary, what’s your point,” She snapped, not liking the bad memories flooding back.

“My point is, clearly you are trying to get yourself out of this situation, which is why you work on that in parallel-”

“What, how would you know that?” She scoffed, terrified at the sheer volume of information they had on her.

“Going to a sketchy pub and being good friends with its owner when he’s clearly interested in you and you don’t do anything about his obvious advances doesn’t leave much to the imagination,” Nobunaga chuckled. Her heart nearly dropped out of her chest at his analysis.

“It could be he’s just a friendly guy,” (Y/N) tried to keep herself high.

“And what about going to the photobooth and then giving him a freshly printed passport photo huh? That doesn’t seem very legal,” He chuckled.

“I’m a mercenary, it’s not legal!” The girl shook her head. The crimelord laughed loudly, the sound rumbling in his chest as his shoulders wavered.

“Very true,” He shook his head amusingly, “anyway,” his fit of laughter died down and his face found it’s seriousness again, “we want you on our side, your company is a big enemy that’s becominging really tricky with us and since you’re on the inside, you can help us tear it apart.”

“And why would I trust you?” Her eyes narrowed, he sat on the bed, moving closer to her. His fingers traced her collarbone. She tensed instantly. He was so close to her but (Y/N) didn’t dare move, he was so mysterious and it frustrated her that she wasn’t able to read him. The girl didn’t realise how tense she had become as his fingers caressed up her neck to her jaw. His breath stroke her exposed skin as his lips ghosted over her ear.

“We have a common enemy, we want it to be destroyed, and,” he smirked, biting his lip and eyeing her, “we don’t want to harm more pretty women than we have to hmm,” His nose nuzzled her hair.

“O-okay, that’s enough!” She blushed profusely, pushing him off. He chuckled amusingly.

“Then we have a deal?” He outstretched his hand to her. She glanced down at it before reluctantly reaching for it. His hand squeezed hers firmly, grinning widely at her.

“Who are the other people here though?”

“One of our enemies, but also an enemy of the people you are working for, I guess we can become allies just for now to destroy our common enemy,” He sighed disappointedly, letting go of her hand, “let’s see what kind of chaos they have created in my absence.”

The girl jumped as she felt her kitty at her foot, scratching at her foot.

“Oh baby,” She cooed lowly, reaching down for the furball and pulling it up, placing him against her chest. Her eyes then followed Nobunaga’s figure as he paced to the bedroom door and open the doors.

“Don’t you dare touch Yuki!” A voice ordered.

“Everyone, stop this!” Nobunaga ordered. Silence immediately engulfed the room. The only sound she could hear was her cat’s purring as she gently scratched it’s neck.

“Sorry, my Lord,” The man with hints of green on his suit bowed at Oda.

“Now, if this is going to work, we need to work together, as much as I don’t want this to happen, we have an asset within their company.” Nobunaga smirked, sliding his arm around the girl’s shoulders. She released a squeak as her body was pulled against his.

“That’s no way to treat a beautiful lady,” The auburn man frowned, pacing up to the pair and pulling the girl out of the raven-haired man’s grasp.

“Uh,” The girl blushed as his second finger placed itself delicately under her chin and tilted it towards his smirking face.

How were there so many attractive men in one room? More importantly, her room?

“Let her go, you’re making her uncomfortable,” The green tux man stated firmly, frowning in their direction.

“He’s right, you can clearly see her discomfort, let her go Lord Shingen,” A man with glasses sighed.

“If we’re going to work together, we’ll need a plan!” Hideyoshi was it? informed.

“Do you have a plan? I don’t want to be in the presence of this devil when I can’t kill him longer than I have to be,” A white-haired man with beautiful heterochromia eyes glared at Nobunaga.

Hideyoshi turned to his Lord, who was smirking mischievously.

“Well…”

so under the cut i’ve wrote down a few plots that i’ve really been wanting for the past couple of days. if you’re interested in any of these plots, LIKE this post & DO NOT REBLOG or post these plots in a separate post !!! pls. but anyway, these all can be altered to our liking & i’m down for either using my main or side muses or for making new completely reserved characters for any of these. so again, like this post if you’re interested and i’ll msg you !!

mark sloan x jackson avery bromance-esque plot from grey’s anatomy but instead of it being a bromance, it’d be a proper romance. keep in mind i’ve only seen up to season 9 so far but if you haven’t seen the show at all, in a nutshell i want a m/m plot where muse a is an older attending surgeon of a certain specialty & muse b is a bit younger resident surgeon who’s interested in the said certain specialty. the two have developed a close relationship through work due to muse b being on muse a’s service all the time & because they see each other all the time at work and have a great relationship / joke around a lot etc, they’ve developed feelings for each other. we can go two ways about this ( they end up acting upon their feelings and dating either publicly or in secret OR they could end up just pining after one another ).

or an altered version of the previous plot ; in a nutshell, muse a and muse b are working in the same hospital and they’re either dating / married / exes or fooling around. a proper and more specific plot to be discussed together. could be m/f, m/m or f/f.

another plot based on grey’s anatomy 08x20 where muse a & muse b had an unexpected pregnancy and decided to keep the baby. but little does muse a know,muse b doesn’t actually want the baby but sticks around because of reason x and y (to be discussed ). it isn’t until after muse a gives birth that muse a finds out that muse b doesn’t want the baby after all ( maybe something happens with the baby and muse b freaks out because it’s too serious / maybe muse b is a little too absent or not too excited about the newborn baby and muse a notices and confronts them about it ). the rest is to be discussed but basically i want a plot where muse a & b have a baby but one doesn’t want the baby. could be m/f or m/m / f/f if altered.

another m/m plot for one of my cold hearted “monster”-like bad guy muses(muse a) who believe they don’t deserve to be loved. they’ve found muse b though and somehow ended up falling in love but because they’ve been made to believe that they’re a monster who isn’t worthy of love all their life, they keep pushing muse baway because they don’t want to hurt muse b and they think muse b deserves everything muse a can’t give to them. but muse b loves them too and isn’t ready to give up so easily — cue the screaming fights of “stop pushing me away when i’m trying to love you” and heartbroken tears of “why don’t you just let me love you?” “because i’m only going to hurt you” </3 preferably for m/m ships but m/f work too.

a basic domestic plot full of either family / marriage fluff or angst. i have a bunch of different ideas for these ( a married couple going through a rough patch / an ex married couple pining over another / a happy married couple trying for a baby or having a baby etc ). preferably with older muses, no preference over m/f, m/m or f/f.

a historical au ( either something with royals in the medieval or renaissance times or an angsty wwii plot ) — m/f, m/m or f/f.

a zombie apocalypse au — preferably m/m or f/f but m/f works too.

OHHHHHH MY GOD. OH MY GOD. oh my GOD. okay i lose my shit over Designations Congruent with Things on a yearly basis because it is, by far, one of the most stunning pieces of fiction ive read. full stop. not only is it a feat of fanfiction (it’s GODDAMN LONG. it’s been taken off of ao3, so i cant check the wc, but damn i remember it was long), but as a story, it’s just. god, i dont even know what to say. ive already talked about this fic in a previous ask, so im just going to reiterate all my love again, just phrased slightly differently.

DCwT is an epic piece of Newt/Hermann Pacific Rim fanfiction. it follows Hermann and Newt after the events of the movie and delve painfully into each and every consequence their actions cause. it’s quite possibly the hardest thing ive ever read, for many reasons; the emotions are so vivid and they hurt; the science is so well researched it took me an hour to get through a paragraph because i my brain was still trying to catch up; Run On Sentences For Miles; it’s really, really goddamn long. i remember it got some flack for being over complicated, but in my opinion, the things that make this fic difficult are exactly what make it incredible. it’s overly cerebral in a way two messed up genius scientists would absolutely be. this fic is. i dont have words for it. i have only read the whole thing in its entirety ONCE and i have tried to reread it but goddamn is it difficult. this fic is definitely not for everybody, but it’s a piece of art that gained a bit of a cult following back when it was updating. (theres a fictional band in the fic that inspired ppl to make the band and the music real. RIGHT???) anyway this fic is basically the cornerstone which i worship when it comes to fanfiction as a genre of literature. jesus christ. jesus christ.

if youve ever been in the les mis fandom i know you know this fic. i know youve already read this fic. i know that your dog has probably already read this fic. i know that this fic has been recced to hell and back, and currently resides as the most kudo-sed work in the les mis tag on AO3. but im reccing it anyways because it’s just THAT GOOD. this fic got me INTO THE FANDOM. pacing. plot. characterization. teen angst. HUMOR. this fic is perfect. literally no other words. it’s just perfect. i read this in my last few months of senior year high school, and never before have i ever read a fic that actually, truly, felt like it was about teenagers. the narrative and the voice. the dialog. god. if this were a book, id buy it. and that’s saying something because im always BROKE. but id buy this fic. several times. who am i kidding. you dont need to know this bc youve read this fic before. if you havent, please. do yourself a favor. oh my god. oh my god. (and when youre done, read all of idiopathicsmile’s other fics too god theyre all SO GOOD)

all fics in this series? my favorite. it’s intelligent, brutal, beautiful. it’s been a while since ive read these, but theres a reason these fics still haunt me. god. god.

The members of the Kelvin’s crew watch over Jim as much as he lets them.

I LOVE THIS FIC SOOOOOOO MUCH. it’s a really delicate, heartfelt piece that isnt afraid to be an asshole sometimes, which is basically jim kirk in a nutshell. not only does it go through an incredible reflective relationship with some rando vulcan who decided to take him under his wing, but it does so in a realistic way that doesnt over dramatize aspects, but still ends up very vivid. also, THERES VULCAN LINGUISTICS. linguistics + fanfiction = 10000000% Best Shit EVER.

fathers and sons by M_Leigh [X-Men: DoFP]

“I have an – interest – in Peter Maximoff,” Erik said, somewhat grudgingly, glaring. “A – familial – interest –”

Everybody stared at him.

“In that – mutantkind is one – large – family –” Erik said valiantly, if pathetically.

“Oh, shit,” Alex said. “No way. No way.”

ghghgfjhdh the first xmen fic i ever read and by far, the most fukcgin hilarious. jesus CHRIST. theres just something subtly incredible about how the author uses phrasing to make every sentence as goddamn funny as they are. im really in love with the comma placement in this fic. every comma is exactly where it needs to be. every em dash is where it belongs. IM NOT MAKING SENSE, but i would send this fic to people as a prime example of narrative humor uplifted via phrasing and punctuation. just read this fic. it’s got Hank POV, Charles being a “strange lecherous Englishman”, Peter being a Teen, and everybody drags Erik’s fashion choices. 

Repeat After Me by queenieofaces [Yuri On Ice]

Victor learns language through mimicry, hears phrases and repeats them back until the inflection becomes second nature. Yuuri seems to communicate best through euphemism, through metaphor, through talking around the subject rather than approaching it head on, and so Victor tries his best to mimic him, to take his words and echo them back.

SO!! FUCKING!!! GOOD!!!!!!!! i think ive mentioned how much i LOVE LANGUAGE and this fic tackles the language barrier in a beautiful, earnest way. as a bilingual, this fic was just so so so good. victor is just bounding with love in this fic and the writing just feels so..,,,,warm.,,,,,
