I haven't been here all that long, but wow--since day one I've been blown away by the talent in this fandom and the dedication of all the creators.

So, thank you lovely souls for sharing your beautiful art (in all its many forms) for us to enjoy--and thank you RC community as a whole for being so lovely and welcoming this past year! I am truly grateful to be screaming/crying/rewriting canon with you 💖

Give Up the Ghost by @frostbitepandaaaaa

I mean...what can I say? I love all of Frost's writing, but this was the first work I ever read of hers and it is devastating and gorgeous and will make you lose your mind. I remember the first time I read it just...lingering on certain sentences because I was in awe of how beautiful they were. Just read it. Trust me. (And then check out her WIP 12 Days afterwards!)

Another writer whose works I love. (Okay, that's pretty much everyone on this list--the RC fandom is so frickin talented). But for me, this fic in particular stands out as one that gives incredible insight into Cassian's character--and an adorable story overall. Heartfelt and beautiful.

I am particularly obsessed with chapter 3 of this collection of prompt-writes Getting Back Together (in the Cold). Lucie paints the picture so clearly and the tension throughout is delicious. Highly recommend reading this RC Hoth fic--and Lucie's other amazing works!

Okay off the bat: be mindful of the tags! This was a whumptober fic and it is BIG SAD. But it is also so, so beautiful. The emotion woven throughout cuts to the bone and as painful as it was, the premise of the story was very well executed. (And if you're looking for a lighter read--maybe a spicy one--Moria's one-shot SOLAR STORM has such an incredible setup. The sexual tension is so well done.)

The RebelCaptain Romance Collection by @agentjackdaniels

I couldn't choose just one from this collection! Luce writes the softest, sweetest, fluffiest stories for RC that you will ever read. (Which makes perfect sense if you're lucky enough to get to know her because Luce is such a genuine, sweet soul.) These fics are like a warm-hug for the soul--just what you need after watching Rouge One.

Again: I am not usually one for Modern AUs but I think the RC fandom is changing me and the first I ever read was Eli's amazing fic. I am obsessed with how Eli writes Jyn's internal dialogue. It's so in character and sharp and will make you smile and shake your head and go "Oh, Jyn!" This collection of stories is idiots-in-love like nothing else and you will fall in love with the world Eli has so thoughtfully crafted for a modern-day RC.

I'm not usually one for modern AUs, but this fic is just so much fun. The banter between Cass and Jyn is so in character and so sharp and witty and the whole time I was reading I had a grin on my face. (These two idiots.) I love all the little details Sissi considers in this AU (Chewie being the dog for example), but that's no surprise! She is the queen of AUs!

Tethered (to the Story We Must Tell) by @dilf-din

I just absolutely loved the setup for this fic. Jess manages to fit these characters into a magical world so seamlessly by embedding the most incredible details from the Star Wars universe. (I was obsessed with the "stormtroopers".) Jess's writing is so smooth and rich and will immediately grab your attention.

Coping Mechanisms by @mosylufanfic

I think this was the first fic I ever read of mosylu's! I love the way she writes Jyn--always perfectly in character, strong and sassy. But in this fic in particular, I love the softness she brings to Jyn in how she cares for Cassian. I found it to be a very beautiful, healing read. (But if you're looking for something a bit longer or more upbeat! I mean, take your pick. Mosylu is another author who is amazing at AUs and her works are always such fun reads.)

RC Proposal by @ninsletamain

I could have put any of nins' pieces down as a rec. (Like seriously go scroll her feed she's insanely talented and her work blows my mind everytime without fail). But I chose this one because it is just so rich and full of detail, I love the story it tells, and you cannot help but smile whenever you look at it.

Definitely an all-time favorite for me. I remember making a joke about claw-machine as a first date when I was doing a RO rewatch with some friends and then this masterpiece showed up on my feed and my jaw dropped?! It's so fun and cute and well-done and I reblog it every time I see it soooo.

Do you know any good “they each think the other is dead” RebelCaptain fics to recommend me??? That premise, for these two, it just does something to me and I want to read about it 😭 i’m sure it must’ve been done at some point by now at least once???

oooooh, there's more than one! well, it's not always both of them thinking it, but boy, you've come to the right person, because that's literally one of my favorite tropes! it's about the angst without having to fully commit to it, it's about the inevitable reunion 🤌 and it does work exceptionally well for them (I should write it one day… well actually I did, but it wasn't in canon-verse. I should write it one day in canon-verse)

anyway, here's a few I enjoyed:

grace will lead me home by @luciechat (TW: unplanned pregnancy which adds a bonus level of angst that I think was handled really well)

182 days (my personal favorite, I think it was also the first fic I read with this trope so... thank you for making me obsessed with it)

Parka (The Only Thing She Had Left) by @sleepykalena (it's unfinished but it does end on a hopeful note and since it's a multichapter, it can really dig into the meat and bones of this trope. I know not everyone likes unfinished fics, but I highly recommend it, it will make you cry)

you must become an island (the horizon is all we have) by @callioope (Jedi!Jyn AU which I think is such an interesting concept)

The Sixth Mission: Undercover, Overwhelmed by @angel-deux-writes (it's a mission fic and a longer multichapter that's also part of a series, but the grief and emotions in this one... chef's kiss!)

a waking life by @singingfirefliess (also a multichapter! this one focuses more on healing and learning to be together, but it does have a plot point in which Jyn believes Cassian is dead)

and well, I may as well plug my own: i'm slowly drifting to you (it's a historical pirate au)

✨ A fic you wish you could read again for the first time

Hi, my dear friend! Thanks for the ask!

It might sound cheesy but the first one that came to mind was Finding my way to you ❤️

It was so perfect, the writing, the descriptions, the pacing, the dialogues and the humour (the rain scene and all the developments is so funny, Antonio's attempts to keep decorum made me laugh so hard the first time I read it), so I wish I could go back to that moment. Even if over the years and all the re-reads I did I always had so much fun with this fic. It's such a gem and your talent always impresses me, Débora!

But I can't only name one, so I'll cheat. I've read so many amazing stories over the years, and I'd like to name a few.

From the Choices fandom, I'd also pick Prince Hamid's Tale of tales by pixieberry, the fic is no longer on Tumblr and I've come back to read it a few times on AO3, and Heaven sent company by @lorirwritesfanfic was the first fic I've read from her, and I was completely in love with the way she writes Hamid from the start.

From a different fandom (Rogue One / Jyn Erso x Cassian Andor) I used to read a lot of fics before even joining Tumblr, I'd pick these two who basically live rent free in my head:

By stardust and moonlight by @imsfire2 is such a beautiful and heartfelt fic, I loved everything about it when I read it, and I still the need to read the second part, so I'll get a chance to be amazed once again.

Stardust quality is such a lovely fic, and I remember all the joy reading this one a long time ago and then I found it again through someone's fic rec and, yeah, I'd want to be able to read it for the first time too.

my dear, magnificent artist pal, what is one tv show and/or movie, and one fic you think more people should try?

Hello, thank you for the question 😊💕🤗

I have to admit, my taste is pretty mainstream, if I recommend something chances are high everyone has already checked it out.

Anyway, since I am gushing on and on about Lockwood & Co., that obviously has to be my first answer for series. Other than that, I’d say the anime Psycho Pass. It’s set in a futuristic Japan governed by the so-called Sibyl system, which is continuously monitoring every citizen’s mental state and criminal potential, all in the name of persecuting potential criminals and ensuring a peaceful society. The genre is probably best described as action/psychological thriller, and it deals with questions such as whether it is morally correct to judge someone for actions not yet taken and whether such a system would create a utopian or dystopian future.

For films, I’d say the anime film your name. It’s a romance movie with fantasy elements and the story revolves around a boy and girl from different backgrounds switching bodies once in a while, but evolves into so much more. It’s hilarious and sad and tragic and beautiful and I cried at every rewatch thus far.

Two critically underrated Rebelcaptain fics imo are amor fati by @theputterer (I ugly cry every time, every single time, reading it) and the fact that you’re alive is a miracle by FortySevens.

for day two of @therebelcaptainnetwork's share the love: i adore this! i'm a sucker for feral-cat!jyn, and this short & sweet fic does a great job showing both jyn and cassian's Totally Not Hypocritical outlooks re: injury, asking for help, and being deserving of care. love how they're clearly both (starting to become) aware now that they ARE worthy of care and CAN ask their partner for help, but, as the fic says, old habits die hard. basically, my jam! also, iconic line:

“I can –– is that blood ?” “No,” she lies blatantly. “That’s grease.” “It’s red.” “It’s red grease.”
