this isn't anything serious- I'm just making light of something I noticed and can explain that's pretty widespread from what I've seen. It's more of a nitpick than anything else, but as a writer spelling mistakes bug me, so I'm making a callout post about it lmao.

If you've listened to The Soul Eclectic and looked up the lyrics, whether you found them with google or genius or Spotify or whatever, you'll notice one of Soul's last lines is "Tridential regicide". Of course, that's the killing of a king via a trident, but the meaning isn't what I'm here for. It's the spelling.

All the sources I've seen relating to the lyrics- including Chonny himself, interestingly- spell it as "Tridential". But when you find the word individually for a definition or in a dictionary, it's spelt Tridental, no i. So why is it spelled wrong in relation to the song?

Simple- it's a spelling of a mispronunciation caused by accent. Let me explain (gods that sounds corny).

Chonny Jash is Australian and has an Australian accent. I have a very similar accent, despite being from a different side of the country, but that also means I know how to tick accent-specific sounds. And one of the things an AU accent does- British accents also do this, which is where it comes from- is turning sharp "t" sounds into soft "ch" sounds. British accents don't do this type of thing as much from what I know, but Australian accents soften almost every sharp sound in the English lexicon, it's part of why the accent is so distinctive. We're lazy, we soften sounds and shorten words. And part of that softening turns a lot of sharp Ts into "ch" sounds instead. You can hear it at the beginning, too- instead of "Tridental regicide", he says something more like "ch-ri-den-chal re-chi-side". it happens to the g in regicide too.

When translated into proper English grammar, "-chal" becomes "tial", because in English that's the easiest and most common way to verbalise the sound, and because the t to ch is derived from the British English accent, it's been around and integrated into the spelling system for a very long time. Even writing it as a "ch" sound feels a little strange, because it's been written differently for so long that the ch letter combination has become associated with a slightly different sound most of the time, unless you've grown up hearing the sound verbalised like that like I have- not only do I live in Australia where a lot of people I know have a similar accent, but one of my deadnames began with that "ch" sound, so for my entire childhood I heard ch verbalised like that. Childhood itself is a good example of the resulting sound when you put "Tridental" through an Australian accent.

So the word is spelled "Tridental", but Chonny says it "ch-ri-den-chal" and that gets misspelt as "Tridential" because that's the natural conclusion of spelling the sound that's made. I actually say it the way he does too! I do the same thing to a lot of my t sounds, and that's why I clocked the spelling mistake so quickly after analysing the lyrics for something I'm working on. It's not technically a mispronunciation- it's just accent leading to a misspell.

There you go, I guess. Moral of the story? It's spelled Tridental. Use that spelling going forward.

HI i love this ask so much. you're incredibly sweet and this is one of my absolute favorite things about meronia -- the fact that people who were into it a long time ago sometimes poke their heads back in and get re-invested T__T (<- happened to me also, kind of, except my interest was only fleeting bc there wasn't a lot of fic i could find when i first looked back in the day) -- ALSO. you have come to the right man re: TS song. Mastermind is extremely meronia, but i will actually respectfully suggest the alternative The Great War as the most meronia coded of her works; i first heard it while i was getting into meronia, and i think it made me a million times more obsessed with them lmao. let me pull my favorite lyrics to demonstrate.

Mello's frustration at his inability to beat Near in their Wammy's era rivalry continuing into what he dwells on after he runs away from Wammy's.

Mello, rather than staying with Near and choosing to fight side-by-side, disappears (tomb of silence) and begins to work towards being able to take down Kira on his own (tore your banners down), eventually infiltrating a criminal organization to give him resources to do so (took the battle underground)

My hand was the one you reached for / All throughout the Great War

Near very readily would have welcomed the opportunity to work with Mello :(

Always remember / Tears on the letter / I vowed not to cry anymore / If we survived the Great War

This just feels like it fits great for Mello being beside himself over L's death, and then post-timeskip being so completely ruthless and focused on his goals.

I think this aligns nicely with the scene of Mello getting his photograph back from Near. Near keeping that photo safe for him, and intervening on Mello's behalf to prevent him from being killed by the notebook by talking to people who knew him, is a demonstration of his care for Mello and his willingness to work together. I don't think Near was under the illusion that this would win Mello over, but it did demonstrate that. Mello gives him some information, but also tells Near he won't work with him, and goes off on his own again.

And maybe it's the past that's talking, screaming from the crypt / Telling me to punish you for things you never did / So I justified it

Honestly this bit is so good for Mello killing off half the SPK. Punishing Near for things he never did! He justified it! Etc!

This works great if you, like me, have a canon divergent AU in your head where Mello refuses to team up with Near but privately expects to reunite with him after the Kira case is over, and vows to himself to let bygones be bygones if they both live. God I'm going to be fucking sick (This is actually more or less the precise vibe of together (always), esp the first part)

It turned into something bigger / Somewhere in the haze, got a sense I'd been betrayed / Your finger on my hairpin triggers / Soldier down on that icy ground / Looked up at me with honor and truth / Broken and blue, so I called off the troops / That was the night I nearly lost you / I really thought I lost you...

Then there's the bridge, and the last verse, which you see above. These don't really fit neatly with canon meronia but at this point in the song I'm in so deep re: meronia that I'm vaguely hallucinating a canon divergence that would make these fit, and I'm screaming crying and throwing up about it. The vibes still feel extremely meronia to me, just in a way I can't quite articulate coherently. Because of the screaming crying and throwing up about them.

Hey… I like how this page is still chill and calm despite everything happening around. Because it’s so difficult to be a TS fan right now. Like what is happening? Not a single post acknowledging the election, decking herself in red, hanging out with those people :/ it’s getting difficult, because we interpret her clothes, everything she does. Shouldn’t we also interpret what she is showing right now?? I know it’s part of her job. But then couldn’t she have picked a more moderate player someone whose support systems don’t scream maga?? This is a deliberate choice she has made. To fill the pockets of people who are wildly conservative. It’s not even about Kaylor anymore. So many years since that documentary and her so called growth and for her to turn around and do this to her image. I just :/

i don’t think that there is any one correct way to react so please don’t take this as me trying to prescribe a certain way of thinking about it onto everyone, it’s just my way of taking things in. i deeply recognize and respect your sentiments. let me share a bit about where im coming from

i think firstly, i came into this thing in early 2018, during the first trump presidency, and so these big level developments are more like a return to the environment from which i started. i think that it is probably even harder if you’re a gaylor or kaylor that came in to things after 2020. not saying it can’t be hard anyway, it is, but i think this might help give a little background to my mindset

next, i always saw miss americana as a coming out documentary that was pivoted and transformed into an activism-adjacent documentary. at the time a lot of us foresaw what this issues with that would come to be, and i think a lot of us recognized that she was setting herself up for very big image issues unless she took the new direction of the documentary in stride, which some of us assumed would not be something to expect. like, we had hope, but we were able to recognize how nuanced her particular situation was. like i think for a lot of us, the line in anti hero “did you hear my covert narcissism disguised as altruism like some kind of congressman” meant a ton because it showed a level of self awareness about the situation that we all assumed she had but didn’t have many straightforward examples to point to that said as much.

also i think that her unsuccessful attempt to unseat marsha blackburn in 2020 probably sent her spiraling back into the mindset she was in in 2016. that is to say, and im sorry this is an armchair psychologist thing to say but its based on what i observed from miss americana, subsequent interviews, and some of the lyricism of midnights, that taylor might worry deeply that her actions might affect political races negatively, and she might even feel cursed, or afraid of ruining things, by saying something. i don’t want to get into what i or we might think about that from an ethics standpoint because i think it’s an endless conversation but i think its worth pointing out that there is a level of stress that she probably feels that may paralyze her in ways that might not make sense to you or i. once again, im just trying to offer a potential answer as to why, not to make some sort of excuse.

then, past 2020, with the way i see things with kaylor, i believe taylor re-prioritized to focus more on her loved ones than to feedback from her fans. does this explain every move she has made since? not entirely, but i think it is somewhat more understandable —at least to me— than the popular gaylor notion that taylor is single gay and trying to dismantle the system.. or dating some other woman, the potential options of which get floated around do not seem, to me at least, to be people whose circumstances would make it difficult for her to come out or to express her political opinion. the stakes are simply not there for me, so i find these possibilities less likely whereas i find kaylor to offer several more likely scenarios

i’m sorry.. ive rambled on again haven’t i.

as for the way things are going presently, it sure ain’t ideal!! but i’ve decided to believe that the majority of taylor’s decisions up until now were considered and implemented with some level of thought and intention on her part, weighing the benefits and risks to herself and to some extent, the world, but that her thought process and decision making is informed by information and pressures the likes of which you or i simply cannot fully know. i believe that, if i was in her shoes, i would be able to understand how grey a lot of the choices are for her. empirically speaking, a lot of them would still probably not make sense to me but, i believe my ability to understand would deepen.

i think for me what i have decided for myself is that blogging about kaylor here on tumblr is something that is interesting to me and fulfilling in all these weird internet ways, and that so long as i find it worthwhile to my life and so long as i keep meeting and hearing from you or others that tell me they appreciate my.. i guess.. more lighthearted?… approach to it? ill continue. i think its a kind of internet record worth keeping.

also, throughout the years i’ve just reconfirmed again and again for myself that we as fans really do not have an affect on taylor’s or karlie’s actions, especially contemporarily. and i think this has also lifted a little bit of the stress i used to place on myself under the assumption that maybe they might read some of our blogs or our feedback and that maybe i or we had some responsibility to affect them in some way. i just don’t think that’s the case, as they provedly do not listen to the big stuff. and even if they did, i doubt we have the background information needed to provide a truly informed opinion. and oh, i guess, maybe they check in idk idk idk who knows but, i now see this all as an activity in observation chiefly and maybe once in awhile if we are lucky, a comet might pass on by.

i guess one more parting thought related to this in a way is, when i came to tumblr back in 2018, there were a handful of blogs that had a similar setup or demeanor as my blog currently does, and, especially after late 2018, but late 2019 as well, and again in 2020, and i guess again in 2021 😆, i watched as one by one these types of blogs resigned or deactivated. and within this landscape, i recognized there was a need for blogs like these. if they all disappeared… well… it wouldn’t have been good for the ecosystem and the people living it. so as the years went by i continued to build my outlook and blog into what it is presently. hopefully it is useful or provides some space for you or other to unfurrow your brow for a second. rest is also important.

My overall thought is, that we are not a big enough part of the fandom to target for someone who is after quick money. Like, there is too much in-depth knowledge of TS lore/sapphic themes/lyrics in this book for it to be a quick AI job, so someone must have invested time to acquire and collate that, and is that really worth it for a £30 book that a handful of people will buy? Have the swifties even noticed the existence of this book?

I'm listening to the TS debut album for the first time and some of these lyrics are SO gay. I'm honestly shocked at how loud she was even then. She is way too clever with the pronoun wordplay.

Isnt that insane?? That’s why when people are like she *might* be Bi I’m like 😑 she’s been a lesbian from the jump, we as a society were all just too heteronormatived to see it back then

Also this is a great example of why getting all the re-records finished first does make sense—she does not want what was originally Scooter to make any money off of her hidden story after she comes out and people inevitably go back in time to look for clues

Not even the masters thing is correct, per contract they belonged to company, which is industry standard, she wanted to buy them along with literally everything related to her that company owned (like promotional photos), then she walked out of the deal, because she didn't like it and someone else bought it, about which she knew prior to buying, because her father was a shareholder in that company. No one took the masters from her, they were never hers to begin with. The company didn't want to bend to her will, so she did a public freakout and victimized herself, which resulted in her braindead goons harassing and sending death threats to everyone involved and not involved like family members including literal kids. Now she does re-recordings just to earn more money and isn't even bothered with quality of them, according to her own fans they are much worse than original masters.

But yeah, sure, let's defend a billionare eco terrorist barbie, who couldn't even give money to the family of her fan, who died on her concert, because of heat and the family didn't have money to bring the body back home, so it was actually other fans, who donated money for this. Instead white devil invited said family and took PR photos with them, because that's a completely normal thing to do to a grieving family . /s

Honestly, even after 20 minutes of scrolling through results and googling legal terms I don't fully understand in English, I'm not sure I really understand what this whole masters debacle consists in exactly, so I'll refrain from commenting on it. There's a bit of a language barrier going on here so I'll just,, leave this as it is, sorry.

I haven't listened to most of the re-recordings (because I really don't wanna do this to myself tbh, I read the lyrics when I need to cite them in arguments and that's ENOUGH) but they do seem to kinda suck. But hey, anything to fill Missy's piggy bank (that's what those are called, right? The french world is "tirelire") even more, right?

That thing with the Brazilian fan... Every time I read about it I feel sorry for this poor young woman. I can't even imagine how that must be, to die so tragically going to see someone you admire and idolize, only for your family and what's left of you on Earth to be treated like this. Concerts, especially the big stadium ones, are supposed to be the time of your life. Not the end of it. It's truly tragic.

tethered playlist breakdown - ch 1: chemtrails

hi hi hi! thank-you to everyone who has read, commented, left kudos, and bookmarked tethered so far (and if this is the first you're hearing of it, here's my critical role / bell's hells / imodna music au)! this beautiful, musical lil world has been knocking around in my head for a little over 6 months and i'm so excited to share it with other people 💗

so as I said on ao3, to create the Full Experience of this au the way i've been stewing in it over the past 6-odd months, i wanted to also pop chapter tie-in posts on here that give a more detailed breakdown of the music in each chapter, mainly bc I'm not someone who writes songfics rly and I don't like breaking up the flow of the fic + the suspension of disbelief with lyrics etc, so: we're gonna do it this way.

(again, if this is the first you're hearing of this au and it has piqued ur interest, would recommend giving ch 1 a read and then coming back to this post)

but okay, let's start with this first chapter ⚡🎼

i gave a bit of a generic ‘vibe’ of what everybody’s music sounds like in the end-notes, but i’m gonna elaborate a bit here + also fill in some gaps!

Liliana

in this fic, Liliana Temult gained acclaim as a teenage country star, kind of like early early Taylor Swift (vibes: TS debut, Fearless, + specifically the songs Sparks Fly, Mine, and Ours from Speak Now are songs Liliana released about her high school sweetheart turned husband (Relvin)). 

*important to note: any TS songs that are confirmed as Liliana’s are re-recording versions of these songs, as the original versions of them are how i imagine Imogen sounding if she were to cover her mom’s music, plus also draws a more distinctive line in the differences in sound between Imogen and Liliana if both of them have TS music in their discographies. if you’re super hardline abt only listening to Taylor’s rerecordings, that’s chill, but just putting it out there as my distinction between Imogen’s TS songs and Liliana’s TS songs!

as Liliana got more popular, signed to a new label (Ruidus Records, owned by Ludinus Da’Leth, and Liliana was managed by Otohan Thull), Liliana’s sound changed and she spent more time away from home, in New York and LA (vibes: AURORA by Daisy Jones and the Six, Fleetwood Mac - 60s/70s-esque pop-rock with some country tinges to it). 

Imogen

more on Imogen’s music in the fic’s present-day for the ch 2 breakdown, but for a backstory vibe: the first music Imogen releases are with songs from Kacey Musgraves’ album, Deeper Well; Imogen’s EP, called If I Let Go, has this tracklist:

Sway is fairly self explanatory, and it’s the leading single for the EP.

Lonely Millionaire is about Imogen’s desperation to not slip into the wrong side of the industry no matter how alluring it may be at times, no matter how caught up she gets in the glitz and glamour and magic of it all, she doesn’t want to forget that it’s not worth it to get lost and end up on your own (like Liliana did).

The Architect is ‘small-town grew up in a christian community and maybe has some queer religious trauma’ Imogen Temult going ✌🏼don’t know if i believe i still believe in god and i don’t know if it would make it easier or harder if i did✌🏼.

Cardinal is something Imogen had written for years and years before she ever released it, but it’s a song that’s so clearly inspired by Liliana’s later career music, and it’s very much about Liliana too, and it almost gets swapped out for a different song because Imogen’s a little terrified that putting her mother’s musical story into her own at the start of her career is as good as damning her from the beginning, but Bertrand and Laudna convince her otherwise so this song ends up closing off the EP. 

(later, when Imogen puts out the rest of her album (which includes songs I haven’t figured out yet lol), she adds Giver / Taker and Nothing To Be Scared Of also from Kacey’s new album, and both of them are written about Laudna :-). (the album is also called Nothing To Be Scared Of.) 

Laudna

Laudna also got into music as a teenager (signing to Briarwood Records under Delilah) but exactly what kind of music that was, i’m not 100% on so taking suggestions + recommendations if you have any. tethered’s present-day Laudna’s music is mostly following the sound of Lizzy McAlpine. the six feet under EP referenced in ch 1 is:

The Crown Keepers

finally, for this chapter’s musical rundown: to put some context to The Crown Keepers, they are, in fact, the Full Gang. Orym, Fearne, Dorian, Dariax, and Opal make up TCK, and they started out as a folk/indie lil group who wound up being signed to Eshteross Records by Bertrand. they’re the characters i have the Most songs for bc their musical sound is my favourite kind of music, but i’ll just give you some artists to listen to + some of the key songs tied to their group’s backstory! 

vibes: Wild Rivers (both in music And in their actual Vibe as a group, go look them up, seriously) / Judah & the Lion (their song Spirit is the first song of TCK’s that blows up and they start to break into mainstream popularity) / Motherfolk / McFly / Morningsiders / Kodaline / Avalanche City (Sunset is one of the last songs they release + the very very last song they play at the end of their world tour right before they go on hiatus) / and Tiny Habits as little smaller combos of different members of the band (esp their cover of landslide). 

quick addition because I keep forgetting: the song that Imogen and Laudna sing together that Orym and Imogen text about is Call It What You Want from High School Musical the Musical the Series, and it's actually the song t hat set this whole fic off, funnily enough.

hiii, i just wanted to say that i also hate ts like an unimaginable amount, but i think it’s rly wrong to hate on sabrina bc she hasn’t actually done anything. and she did receive death threats (even tho i don’t blame liv bc she was insanely new to this industry and didn’t realise). and sabrinas music is just pop, it’s not rly supposed to be well written imo.

also also also, if we re hating on sab for being taylor prodigy, please remember that liv also was. taylor (imo) uses young artists to make sure you can’t think of them without thinking of her.

Peace, friend. I simply meant that I do not listen to Sabrina's music and that I don't like her lyricism. However, I don't think she morally irresponsible the way Swift is.

I do wish her luck in being too close to Swift. That is not a great spot to be.

And that is a good point I had not yet considered. I always thought it strange that Swift is good friends with people so much younger than her. That's an interesting thought- that she's not actually friends with them but just wants the young audience to keep their attention on her.

Even though I don’t like TS I do like some of her songs, but oh my god the re-recordings SUCK! Style was a great pop song imo and now it sounds like an amateur cover of the original

she doesn't actually use her full voice much when singing anymore, especially on recorded versions of songs, and it's so weird. like. it used to be that people had criticisms of her vocals sometimes but she did the 1989 tour and blew everyone away with that rock version of wanegbt. now, it's a miracle if she ANY runs or lines where she's not just whisper-singing the whole song, even on pop/upbeat songs. and that's what people are calling "mature". they're like "oh her voices sounds so mature now!!" no her voice sounds like a whisper void of emotion and now i can't ignore how bad the lyrics are.

I first started listening to ts back in 2014 and i loved her since then. fast forward to 2023 and post joe break up and thats when i started seeing her true colours and see just how manipulative, entitled and fake she is. i guess at 11, when i first started listening to her, i was too young to figure out her shenanigans. afterwards, during her years with joe, she seemed quite mature and emotionally developed for me to have a problem with her. the joe breakup really revealed who she is and i feel disgusted. i normally don't care much for celebs but on god do i hate taylor swift now. joe deserves the world. only thing i will thank her for is introducing him to me. also cant wait for ttpd to see just how big of a dumpster trash fire it is because all the promotional lyrics so far have been horrendously corny. all ttpd will do is re-enforce my appreciation for joe.

TLDR; speculation on probable Taylor Swift fallout based on 8 year pattern AKA worldwide kickoff of taylor swift's carrer in 2008 with release of debut album, 8 years later falls out of grace thanks to kim and kanye lying, then releases reputation, 8 years later may be on the brink of another fallout to give way to another reinvention era/album

i think i just realized something, i think Taylor Swift might be very close to a worldwide fallout, falling out of the high pedestal she's been on lately. and this is based solely on a pattern i saw, which is:

all fine > 8 years > worldwide fallout > "reset" image, fine again > 8 years > worldwide fallout > "reset" image

allow me to explain.

(forgive me if someone has already said this before, i just haven't seen anything)

so, to establish a timeline.

if we consider The Start of Taylor Swift's professional (to any extent of the word) career as the release of Taylor Swift (the debut album), then it all starts in 2008 (technically the internet says "it was released in North America on October 24, 2006, and elsewhere on March 18, 2008". still the year i remember is 2008, and it was the release date for the world so to say, and honestly, USA is not the only country ever so whatever).

then 8 years later, let's set the scene. it's 2016, Kanye releases Famous, the Taylor line, the music video, the edited phone call video. boom, seems the whole world turns HARD against Taylor (she's gotten hate all the time, but now it seems to be EVERYONE, your mom, her dog, the neighbor, and their aunt Martha, even people who "don't care" about Taylor Swift are swayed to form negative opinions on her, most of them taking to social media for everyone to see).

one year later, 2017, we get reputation. i take this as the beginning of gaining back the trust? the grace? the ykwim of the world. 2020, the real full phone call leaks online, this accelerates the process.

8 years later from the fallout (2016), 2024. here is where we get to speculating grounds, about what i think can happen next based off the 8 year pattern i saw:

2024 is the year people lose faith on Taylor Swift, you can even say the world will turn on her again, it's the cycle of things and in her case it appears to be every 8 years.

you can even say the cogs started moving in 2023, with the whole jet emissions, lack of being vocal about things people see as important, problematic fling with ratty, overdoing the whole merch and consumerism "spend more and more on me and my stuff" thing, borderline estranging and seemingly throwing part of her fan base under the bus (gaylors with the 1989 prologue), allegedly starting a PR relationship with the NFL (spotlight with misogynistic men, generates hate), etc.

she's getting too much media exposure, people who didn't care for her, start not liking her (she's everywhere, it's tiring), people who simply didn't like her now start hating her (no more tolerance), people who hated her, hate her even more and are making it everybody's problem. some people who like or love her, given the radical change of focus in her appearances lately (NFL, new boy, WAGS besties, republican america fuck yeah vibes, as opposed to focus in her art, music, lyrics, thoughts, etc.) may even start not caring about her or disliking her.

so, i think what comes next is a fallout. still, i think that what makes it different this time is that now she has control of the narrative. maybe this time it's planned. i don't think it's a coincidence the two left re-records are Taylor Swift debut album (which started it all, started the cycle) and reputation (the tool for image reset, for changing general opinion on her).

i don't know what the order will be, maybe:

release TS TV, then full blown fallout, "disappears" from public eye (hard given the eras tour is still on), comes back a year later with rep TV and new image

release TS TV, continue slow fallout, rep TV and finish eras tour (closing circles), extreme media exposure that tips the glass, full blown fallout, disappears, comes back a year later with a new album that changes public perception about her rep style

what may this new image be? idk maybe:

a traditional, "actually i'm straight and lowkey homophobic", "i was lying about not wanting to get married", getting married, forming a family, retiring to focus on new family, we see nothing of her ever again

or a controversial, "actually i AM gay and tired of hiding it" or something like that

literally anything else, idk
