hey, everyone. don't feed your cats raw cat food. companies claim it's healthier (it's not), but with H5N1 (bird flu) raging, it is simply not safe to feed your cats anything that hasn't been thoroughly cooked. avoid anything "raw." please, for the sake of your kitties. this flu is extremely deadly, and i don't want anyone to lose their precious pets.

How To Make Raw Chicken Cat Food
How To Make Raw Chicken Cat Food
Let’s get right into making raw cat food. Start by mixing the vitamins and lite salt in a bowl. Open each capsule and mix all the dry vitamins (800 IU of Dry Vit E (2) and 400mg of B-Complex 50) (8) then mix in the lite salt. If you are not doing the full amount of liver and hearts or can’t get your hands on one or the other, mix the taurine in here. Personally, I don’t add taurine often, as they…

The H5N1 (bird flu) virus is going around, and cats are proving especially susceptible to it. A big cat sanctuary in Washington state had TWENTY of their big cats (cougars, tigers, etc) die of bird flu.
There have also been cases of indoor-only domestic cats getting sick or even dying of bird flu after contracting it from raw cat food. And of course coming into contact with birds also puts your cat at risk.
To keep your cat safe:
Keep them away from birds, preferably keeping them entirely inside. If they are indoor-outdoor then remove any bird feeders from your yard to make cat-bird contact less likely.
Do NOT feed them raw food of any sort, including freeze-dried raw food. Freezing will not kill the virus!
A lot of raw pet food companies are using PR speak to assure customers that their raw food is safe. Remember that at the end of the day their priority is to make money and stay in business. Unless they are testing every bird carcass for the virus their assurances are meaningless, and they certainly are not testing every bird because it would be too expensive.
Cooking kills most viruses and bacteria, including H5N1.

First art of 2025 🎉🎉 I’ve seen a few pictures of Nik with a cat, and I wholeheartedly believe that Nikolai would have an extremely expensive cat as his helicopter companion

Came home from work last night and discovered both my kittens were sick. How did I know they were sick, you ask?
There was shit everywhere. Every. Where. All over my bed. All over the carpets near all 4 litter boxes (and some in and on the sides of litter boxes. They tried). Even on … the counters and dining room table. On the bottoms of my book cases, even on some of my books. All over the kittens themselves (I’m assuming most of what I found was tracked from their paws). When I tell yall I wanted to die. When I saw my bed I almost ended it then and there.
They were acting fine and playful still but I called and made a vet appointment for them and then spent the next 4 hours on dookie patrol. Just me, my carpet shampooer, paper towels, totally awesome spray, and my washer and dryer against the world.
At one point I had thought I was completely done, put up my carpet shampooer, and literally immediately turned around and stepped in fresh, liquid dookie. Yes, I cried.

As flu cases spike in Florida ERs, the CDC issues new guidance to identify bird flu
Left over from Biden. 47 has barred all communication about infectious disease because the numbers might make him look bad. Republicans broadly believe it is better to let large numbers of people die than to warn them about risk so they can take precautions.
I'm including animal stuff in here because it crosses species.
I noticed the forage boxes contained no eggs this week. I know the price is skyrocketing because of the bird flu. I am worried we won;t be able to get Livia's special food. Meanwhile Trump and RFK Jr. want to let people sell infected raw milk and don't care who is harmed or killed.

I beg of you do not drink raw milk.

As experts continue monitoring and surveying the environment and the nation's food supply for H5N1 bird flu, a rash of dead cats has many officials on edge. From pet cats in Los Angeles County and Oregon to captive wild cats in Washington and Colorado, dozens of felines have died as a result of consuming H5N1-infected raw pet food and raw milk. Although the products carrying the virus were largely marketed for animals—with the exception of raw milk—experts say the presence of the virus in commercial meat and dairy highlights the vulnerability of the U.S. food chain to this virus. "With multiple diagnosed cases of H5N1 mortalities, can we in good conscience fail to provide widespread public warnings that raw meat... has been linked to multiple big cat mortalities," said John Korslund, a retired U.S. Department of Agriculture veterinarian epidemiologist, in an email. The deaths prompted policy changes announced Friday by the USDA and the Food and Drug Administration, which focus on pre-slaughter rules for select poultry farms in Minnesota and South Dakota, as well as changes in food safety risk assessments for raw pet food producers. And they underscore the murky and largely unregulated industry of raw pet-food manufacturing.
