Ok, Ravensong and Heartsong spoilers but Jesus, just.
.
Fuck Robert Livingstone. He drove his wife insane and blamed everyone else for the mess it caused. Like Thomas made so many bad calls but he was always invested in cultivating the potential of those he loved. Robert just used people to build his own ego. He screwed with Catherine's head and she poisoned Gordo against the wolves. THEN he decides he's "grown fond" of Robbie, but is doing the exact same shit. What a sociopathic piece of shit .

The fast paced back and forth of ravensong when Gordo Joe Carter and Kelly start to head back to Green Creek,
Getting short snippets of Gordo being left alone as a teenager and then our present versions of the guys feeling everything as they head home,
All building to the scene where Gordo gives his wolf back to Mark,
And they meet face to face with a pack they don’t know.
It hurts so fucking good.

finally rereading ravensong by tj klune and was emotionally devastated by page 2.
it's the way mark and gordo are doomed by the narrative. it's the way they cursed by their fathers to repeat them same mistakes over and over. it's the way they are destined to break each other's hearts. it's the way they are tragic archetypes destined for heartbreak. it's the dramatic irony of knowing how each flashback ends and still being devastated. it's the way they never stop fighting for each other. it's the way they will have a happy ending anyways because it's a beautiful queer paranormal romance.

Green Creek Short Stories
For anyone that's new to Green Creek or just didn't know, there's three short story companions to the series on TJ Klune's blog! Please mind the spoilers :)
Lovesong: Comes after Wolfsong and Ravensong. Spoilers for both.
Feralsong: Comes after Wolfsong, Ravensong, and Heartsong. Spoilers for all three.
Lovesong II: Comes after Wolfsong, Ravensong, and Heartsong. Spoilers for all three.
Just wanted to spread the love. You may cry.

If I had a nickel for everytime I read a book series where 'The Joys of Gay Sex' had a not insignificant impact on the progress of the story, and that series goes on to be the most emotionally impactful and life changing series I've ever read......I would have two nickels...
Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.

Aight so now that I have finished Brothersong I have THOUGHTS on further logistical breakdowns of how Green Creek could be adapted to a GLAAD Award-Winning HBO TV show. Spoilers so here is a cut for anyone who wants to be fresh to the series.
PRE-PRODUCTION
OKAY SO! The filming block for Season 1/Wolfsong would MOST LIKELY be the biggest, especially for scenes involving younger versions of the actors. As these are spread out across, like, all four books, some are just “scene we’ve seen but from a different perspective or with ‘Dream Seauence VFX’ so we just need more blocking/extra takes to make it all seem believeable using B-roll” to “yeah this requires Young Thomas and various child actors so we’re filming this beforehand so that everyone looks the same when these scenes come up later” to “ah hell we gotta shave their heads anyways might as well film the revenge road trip.” Thus, basically everyone but, like, Dominique would have to be cast by Season 1, and probably all of Season 1 and half of season 2 would need to be written and finalized and drafts/outlines of Season 3 and 4 would need to be made before casting would begin. Writer’s room would include TJ and a racially-diverse LGBT staff.
Caswell wouldn’t need to be fully built but enough of a location would be needed to film individual scenes with the younger actors and scenes set in the big house at Caswell (ie arguments between Mark and Thomas, Joe being taken, Thomas in the woods with the kids, Thomas writing the letters)
Title sequence would be based on the lovely new covers for the hardcover editions from Tor. They’d get longer with each season and by the end we see the whole pack in the papercraft style of the covers.
CASTING
Yeah we’d need a big ass cast. With multiple actors to play different characters at different ages.
Babies:
Carter, Kelly, Joe, maybe also Gavin depending on things
Children:
Gordo, Gavin, Mark, Rico, Chris, Tanner, Carter, Kelly, Joe, Robbie
Young Adult (ie Teen to Mid 20s) and Adult (ie by the Rough Present of when Ox first discoveres the secret of the Bennetts)
Basically everyone else
The tricky part will be that, yeah, there will probably need to be different actors for 20s Thomas, Elizabeth, Mark, and Gordo because while a 20-something can play 16 or so, its harder for 30-40 year olds to play 20-something. The upside being that an older actor CAN play Gordo for the scenes after Ox’s dad leaves (also Ox’s dad will need a name lol). You would need to switch to older actors for the Bennett kids and Ox basically once Ox graduates high school. But then you can keep all the same actors for the rest of the “present” set scenes. Osmond, and Robert Livingstone would also need younger actors. Richard Collins would only need one actor he’s barely in the flashbacks as it is.
STRUCTURE/PLOT RAMBLINGS
There are a few things that would need to be done in order to improve the pacing for TV, imo. Mainly, that the handing off of Alpha of All to the Fairbanks pack needs to feel more earned and less semi-random. Like, show them taking in Omegas at the end of Season 2, have them be allies at Caswell in Season 3 and the final battle in Season 4. Flesh them out a bit more. Also some continuity smoothing would be needed (ie clarifying that Gordo refused Mark’s MATE bite not Thomas’s BECOME WOLF bite).
Some more forshadowing of Robert’s failsafe in Season 2 would help. Obviously SHOW Gavin’s timber wolf in the attack on Jessie (and ideally have the actor be the body actor wearing the CGI ball suit moving all wolf-like in the scene) in Season 1.
I’d personally add in more of a wrap-up in Caswell at the end of Season 4. And also an extended aftermath scene or episode after Ox’s resurrection. Joe’s wolf is still bigger than almost everyone else, but not as big as it was when he was Alpha. One thing that I’d ask to be added is, maybe with the death of Robert and the ressurrection of Ox there’s a big ass magic pulse and we get a follow-up with the new Alpha of All from Alaska training Betas who have become Alphas thanks to Mystical Moon Magic as they rebuild packs across the continent. Idk the story needs more of a denumont. Alpha of All making more of an effort to try and bring Omegas back from the brink before just automatically deciding to kill them.
Dominique could have human bite marks on her to show thar Jessie tried to “Mate Bite” too even as a human. Bambi and Rico too.
He/They Gavin? Maybe? Gavin feels very he/they. Also Elizabeth showing affection to Maggie (hey if we’re gonna imply that Thomas and Richard had a kind of romantic love for each other in Brothersong before he went Omega Lizzie can make side-eye at Maggie).
Show more of the three year gap between Ravensong and Heartsong (not a lot but more than just one bit when Robbie is kidnapped). And the new story in the deluxe hardcover books too. The myth or whatever. That can be animated in a sketchy style (think Princess Kaguya or Wolfwalkers) with VO from Elizabeth.
Anyway rambling over I love these books so much. TJ I woudn’t say no to a LIGHT DRAMA/mostly fluff 5th book or short story. Maybe from Chris or Tanner’s perspective? Or Jessie’s?

The main reason I just binged the Green Creek books, is because it went from being about teens, to being about people 25+. Ravensong at Gordo's POV was my favourite, because Gordo was an adult from book one, and I related so hard. Yes, please, give me books about 39 year old grumpy and bitter rednecks with tattoos who manages to forgive and find love again and have mystical moon magic sex-

*WOLFSONG BOOKS SPOILER*
ok, so I started reading "Wolfsong", I'm in the middle of "Ravensong", and it is nice, I'm enjoying it so far.
but I can't be the only one that was shocked when the book tells you that Joe would be Ox's romantic partner. Like, I figured it out with Ox, when he found out, I found out.
Since they met when Joe was 10, I read the entire book without thinking of them as anything but a beautiful friendship, I know 5 years isn't that much of an age gap, BUT IT IS WHEN HE'S 15 AND YOU'RE 20.
I'm not saying they are problematic or anything because they never really got toguether before both of them where in their majority. I'm saying that I never got to think of them as romantic, until I was over 50% of the book.
It was unexpected, and I want to know if it was a common sense or I'm the only one freaking out about this.

Reading ravensong by Tj Klune and had a thought spoilers below
When Thomas tells Gordo the pack minus Gordo is leaving it reminded me of the line "with tears in my eyes I begged you to stay, you said hey man I love you but no f*cking way" from the song twin sized mattress by the front bottoms.

Thinking about the conversation in Ravensong between Gordo and Team Human when they’re at The Lighthouse and tryna get him laid and one of the cons for Carter was that he’d only slept with women and he probably shouldnt start with someone like Gordo…
Jump to Brothersong and Carter’s first (and only) man he sleeps with is Gordo’s ‘similar brand of mean’ brother Gavin
Literally one of the funniest long term payoffs for a joke which I’m not sure was even TJ’s intention but it has me fucking CACKLING

So what if the covers of the green creek series mean something. Obviously they do but the colors they resemble the mood of the book.
Just saying there are spoilers.
Tumblr media
Wolfsongs cover is green and blue. Sadness and Relive. Sadness because of Joes trauma and Thomas death and their disappearance FOR THREE WHOLE YEARS. Relive when they return and Ox survives and everything.
And we have one wolf, MAYBEE joes stone wolf, it resembles Joe i guess coz for most of the book Ox is human and only get turned in the end and doesn’t have a stone wolf or is a wolf at all.
Tumblr media
The cover of Ravensong is Red, mostly.
Red stand for anger. Gordos anger towards The Bennetts and Mark and Basically everyone. Brown wolf is, who would have guessed, Mark. Geordo is a witch obviously and doesn’t have a stone Wolfe
Tumblr media
Heartsongs cover is green. Relive, that Robbie is back and in the end that he gets his memories back and That Kelly turn into a wolf again. Two wolfs coz of Kelly and Robbie, two stonewolfs, two shifters. Self explaining.
Tumblr media
Brothersong. Purple and blue-ish. Omega purple as a reference to Carter being an Omega in Ravensong and Heartsong ? And pretty sure one to Gavin, coz of him being close to being feral and so long in his wolf form. Two Wolfs on the cover. Carter and Gavin, Two stone wolfs ? Cant say much to the blue-ish imma be honest. Of course Gavin’s leave in the end of Heartsong and therir reunion probably isn’t without sadness. I WILL READ IT.
I Have no clue if this makes any sense at all. But for me it does Lmao.

Yk with "do you wanna be a vampire" being a question Darlin' actually has to consider now, I feel like I should put my mustard on this conversation and also advertise a book I like because I have no shame. (Spoiler warning for the Green Creek series by Tj Klune from here on out)
In the Green Creek series (I forgot whether this happened in the first or the second book and am too lazy to check (and even if I wasn't I'd just end up getting distracted by Gordo and Mark's sexual tension and nobody wants a Gordo/Mark post from me)) after Ox tells the guys from the garage about werewolves and magic and all that shit and makes them his pack, the question of turning them into wolves at some point arises. Jessie and Chris state outright that they never want to be turned, which is fair, and Tanner talks a lot with Elizabeth to learn all he can about being a werewolf before making a choice. The way the topic is concluded for the first two books is that Rico and Tanner ask to be turned if their life is at stake while Jessie and Chris want to remain human. And I think Darlin' would take a very similar approach to their potential vampire turning as Tanner has in Wolfsong/Ravensong. Their first instinct might be "fuck that - absolutely not" but I think apart from just heeding Sam's advice and spending a lot of time with the pack and their (inner) wolf, they'd also consult with Vincent/Lovely, Bright/Fred, and other vampires they might know in regards to all there is to know about being a vampire. In the end, I think their decision might come down to the same one Rico made in Wolfsong/Ravensong, which is that if they're going to die, they want to be turned. However, vampires in the Redactedverse work the way (I assume) most vampire depictions do, which is they stop aging rather than continuing to or reverting to their "prime" age the way vampires in some stories do. So if Darlin' were to die at say 86 years old because they can't see anymore and fell down the stairs and Sam turned them, then that following vampire life probably wouldn't be a fun one (or maybe it would be. I've never met (/read) a vampire whose body was old and wrinkly before so how would I know). Therefore, I'd say that Darlin' might agree to be turned in a life or death situation, but only as long as they're still of an age they can see themself living as until (potentially) the end of time, e.g., they might agree to Sam turning them until they're forty, but afterward they'd like it if he just let them die.
End of rant, hope this was comprehensive.

I need to yell about Heartsong, so beware: spoilers after the break!
So I was kinda dumb, because the epilogue of Ravensong kind of gave it away. But because Heartsong started with baby Robbie, I just assumed it picked up the story before Robbie came to the Bennets. Anyway, I did know who Ezra was, but I didn't link the dreams to actual memories and was wondering if Robbie had some sort of visions or whatever. I feel a little dumb now. Also ARE TANNER AND CHRIS WOLVES NOW WHAT THE HECK and were is the rest of Team Human?? (I'm just at the confrontation at the bridge, so I'm sure I'll find out soon enough) but !!!!!
Also still a little unsure about the timeline, how long has Robbie been gone - was it like 6 months or so? UGH. This is such a good plot building series!

i've come baring book rambles!
**spoilers? for wolfsong by tj klune even tho it's like 8 years old...**
i finished wolfsong in four days! i switched between the audio book and a kindle copy and it truly soothed my lack of motivation to read (maybe kindles aren't so bad?)
i got the vibe that it was very clearly self indulgent tumblr 2014-esque; with the writing style, the characters, and the a/b/o dynamic which i never have had much interest in before. but, honestly? i loved it. it satisfied my Adhd Brain™️ and my longing for more explicitly (and explicit😉) clear queer characters. it was really fun and easy to read, and i think the looseness of it helped push along the angst and slow burn.
which, btw, the childhood friends to lovers trope absolutely destroyed me and made me adore joe as a character. i wish there was more about him!!!
anyways, i love love LOVE joe and ox, but i'll admit i'm a little critical of the age gap their romance started in and it wasn't really of my interest to indulge in that, but later on i was more comfortable with it and found their relationship sweet. a little blood boiling, but sweet. i'll be thinking about them for too long.
i'm kind of hesitant about starting ravensong since i wasn't too interested in the side characters (besides rico, loved him sm), but i got the audiobook anyway and i'm gonna give it a chance!! excited to see how this plays out :)
