Why do you like Rau Le Creuset?
There are so many reasons beyond just weird fangirling lol.
But it is largely because his character was written that good, both of the original voice actors (Toshihiko Seki and especially Mark Oliver) brought the character to life. You can feel everything he says, you can feel the emotion behind it or the lack of. You can tell he his deceitful but he comes off charming anyway. His character is handsome, young, agile and he can seem like a mentor who is there for you. I love the complexity behind his character, and how we see so many faces of his. We never suspect that he's behind the actual war, we never really know just how convoluted he is until Mendel.
I love that he influences everything, even Destiny. His hand is a huge factor in the Destiny Plan, which would see to it that people stop suffering as they did in his nihilistic perspective. He influenced Durandal, Rey, and honestly basically Aura Maha Khyber and Orphee Lam Tao too. He was the driving force behind Kira's worst nightmares - that he can't stop war. His philosophy wasn't wrong, and it applies to real life. War is never ending, humans are selfish and desire things. Everything is difficult. Even though I don't entirely agree with his negative perspectives, I can still admire that they got this character right.
He isn't an old man, he isn't totally unattentive. And he's easy on the eyes. Like seriously. Forget Athrun, Kira and Mu. RAU WAS HOTTER.
His character was charming. He was literally, if they went, let's take Lacus, flip her gender, and give her a reason for NOT wanting to help everyone. He was talented, manipulative, charming, knowledgeable and overall capable. He could come off as a kind mentor and actually just be doing everything to ruin your life. I love it. Amazing character, amazing role, amazing voice actors, amazing design. I wish he'd continued to make appearances, especially in Kira's head, because he drove Kira's whole character way more than Durandal. He was right about Kira, about the world, about everything.
Basically, I just love the character. if he were a real man, I'd probably jump him.

Rebels Rewatch: "Heroes of Mandalore"
Some familiar TCW faces as we close up the darksaber arc.
Live reaction version.
Tumblr media
Sabine's transformation into co-protagonist is nearly complete, as it's the end of her darksaber arc that starts us out this season.
Also, you know, the Season Four trailers framing the whole of Rebels as the story of "A boy who was lost and a girl who was broken".
Not that I minded as it meant that Ezra and Sabine would be spending a lot of screentime together. :D
After not really touching on it in a while, Fenn Rau's courtesy hand on Kanan's shoulder to let him know he's signaled a stop was a nice little way of demonstrating Kanan's blindness and the accommodations other characters make for him.
Ezra finally has that jetpack he's been wanting lol.
Tumblr media
I reserve the right to be giddy about the fact that Ezra is literally Sabine's right-hand man. And also that she painted him another Scout Trooper helmet.
Kanan showing off with the Force Leaps there, which Fenn Rau lampshades.
And now we're introduced to Tiber Saxon, Gar's less interesting more fanatical brother.
A+ mid battle banter. I do distinctly remember being delighted by all the playful quipping and snarking back and forth when this first aired, and it's still cute now.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Once again all it takes for Ezra to surrender is someone threatening Sabine. <3
I... I'm sorry, apparently I'm going to be Obnoxious Obsessed Sabezra Shipper for this rewatch, let me attempt not to comment on just them and their stupid faces and every time they interact.
Lol is one of the Kryze Mandos Naruto-running?
That was an awfully quick search of the base there, guys.
"Bo-Katan was made regent by the Jedi before the end of the Clone War." For all of what, one day? Lol.
I do have quibbles about Bo-Katan's characterization here in Rebels, at times it seems like it's assuming more character development than we actually see happen, when we eventually get back around to telling the story of the Siege of Mandalor.
I do find it kind of funny that SO many people were expecting Sabine to have an arc where she becomes Mand'alor when literally the second episode she actually had the darksaber she was immediately like, "Nope it's not me, I'm just holding it for whoever will be the true leader." Course I guess they expected that in this episode she would take up the mantle.
No dice and frankly I am not interested in that kind of plotline unless Ezra gets to be an accessory to it. (I uh... I have a thing about the Royal Maiden/Steadfast Knight dynamic.)
Tumblr media
Ezra playing therapist again. <3 Nice to see it go over better than in "Trials of the Darksaber", Sabine is learning to be more open with her thoughts and feelings.
Kanan attempting the playful teasing banter he usually has with Hera (that Ezra and Sabine are suddenly very adept at now, what) but she shuts it down. This is another quibble I have about Season Four, I do not understand Kanan and Hera's sudden awkwardness and Will They/Won't They? when previously it seemed like they had been depicted as already a settled matter. Not really overt but comfortable and resolved. This weird walkback feels like a way to add drama and tension to Kanan's eventual death, and I really don't think it needed that?
The way I usually reconcile it is by headcanoning that Hera conceived Jacen in the three weeks between S3 and S4 and she's been standoffish and cagey about it because she doesn't quite know know yet and she's being anxious and worried and preoccupied and prickly as a result. I headcanon this because it's been my own experience when the husband and I have, ahem, not exactly been careful and had not had more kids in the plans.
Anyway.
Tumblr media
Sorry is this not how the scene went? Lol.
Alrich immediately knows it's his baby girl aww.
Huh, I'd forgotten the side pockets on these transports could be used to stick extra troopers. Neat.
This is pretty nicely staged, a lot of fast smooth movement with the jetpacks, Sabine using the bike as cover was a clever touch. The speed of everything is really on display.
Love this hero cue when Kanan ignites his saber and enters the fray. Every character gets a nice little moment of being awesome.
Even Chopper gets to be a flying menace, clonking that one Trooper on the head with a blaster lol.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
IF NO SUPPOSED TO SHIP LITERALLY WHAT EVEN IS THIS "SHE'S NOT MY GIRLFRIEND." MOMENT?
And ooop, show just stabbed me with Sabine's frantic worried, "Ezra! Get out of there!" and my brain went straight to the finale you guys really need to stop doing this to me.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
<3333333
Little shit even gets in a cheeky, "Was wondering where you were." I love him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And Kanan and Ezra look so happy for her awww.
Tiya's acting when Sabine realizes her weapon is on the battlefield is very nice. Sabine sounds horrified and heartbroken and scared.
Sabine's theme drawing out in long slow mournful notes here.
I'm actually really glad they didn't kill off Ursa and Tristan. It would have meant basically nothing since neither of them were developed enough characters for us to care and also I really didn't need another How To Train Your Dragon 2 Stoick/Valka gutpunch in my life.
Never kill off your characters unless you can tell more story with them gone than you can with them there.
Sabine's showing more emotion than we've seen out of her since "Trials of the Darksaber" oof.
Sabine getting a little bit distracted in her anger and grief and needing a nudge from Kanan. She's going to struggle with this a bit this episode.
It's cute how Bo-Katan kind of implies that Ezra should fly out with her to take down the TIEs.
Tumblr media
This poor boy looks so consternated with all these crazy Mando shenanigans lol.
Yeah no, watching the Dutchess in action does not get any better.
Thrawn being all Villain Admirer of the Spectres again, while also picking at Tiber Saxon's logic here. It's basically the same logic and line of objections he has to the Death Star, that it's a bloated and inefficient waste of resources and will create more Rebels than it can kill. Thrawn is trying to point out, "Yeah so this literally insults the honor of a hot-headed quarrelsome proud warrior race culture how exactly is this supposed to quell them from rebelling again?"
Tumblr media
Awww.
Ezra immediately gearing up to fight Bo-Katan to protect Sabine. <3 And then the other Clan Kryze members a minute later. <3
Tumblr media
"Down boy."
You know something I haven't commented on is just how washed out Mandalore looks. Like, Lothal is covered with brown plains too but there's so much more life and color in them. Like the difference between Kansas farmlands and a nuclear testing site.
There's some kind of unspoken history here between Rau and Bo-Katan in the way they interact which... intrigues me. They talk like old friends and I would definitely like to know more about how they know each other.
With Bo-Katan's little speech here, I do see how people were expecting Sabine to be set up to be Mand'alor.
Something darkly ironic in Sabine naming a superweapon after a pacifist.
Tiber channeling his best Imperial fanatic here. What an ass.
Tumblr media
This shot was apparently a visual shoutout to a similar one in TCW's "The Lawless", with Obi-Wan Kenobi. Not the last time Ezra and Obi-Wan would be paralleled.
Tiber really shouldn't have let Sabine have access to her own weapon, that was a stupid move.
Ooooh there's more on that theme of "We make deals with the Empire to survive." Tiber honey that never works out for anyone.
Sabine modifies the weapon all right, but Tiber's eagerness to use it after she warned him not to is hoist by own petard poetry.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
BOY IT SURE IS A GOOD THING SABINE DIDN'T SET THE WEAPON TO FULL POWER OUT OF REVENGE. JUST IMAGINE WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED IF SHE LET HER ANGER DRIVE HER TO DO THAT?
OH WAIT I DON'T HAVE TO IMAGINE, TVTROPES HAS ME COVERED.
Tumblr media
THANKS TVTROPES. THANKS FOR THAT BIT OF FRIDGE HORROR.
Sabine does still have a very mean vengeful streak in her even after all her years living with Jedi so it takes a bit of prodding from Bo-Katan (of all people) to talk her down from this wrath moment.
We can count that whole Star Destroyer as Sabine's kill right? Lol, she's catching up to you Chopper, better murder some more capital ships.
"The Empire will send everything they have to crush Mandalore." Haaaaaaaaaaaaa. *cringes in The Mandalorian's account of The Purge*
Honestly I think the reason they had Sabine give Bo-Katan the darksaber was because they didn't want to have to write around Sabine being absent again lolol. Having to stay and be the leader of a whole planet would have definitely taken Sabine away from the front lines of the wider Rebellion and more importantly taken her away from her crew and family and like hell were they going to let the Spectres go back to Lothal without her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ngl, I ship it a little bit.
Tumblr media
This could have been a little more earned, not gonna lie.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
IF NO SUPPOSED TO SHIP LITERALLY WHAT EVEN IS THIS??!!?
I'll be honest I'm not really invested in the Mandalorian side of things in fandom so while a lot of these action sequences were pretty cool visually I didn't have much emotional connection unless characters I already knew and loved were onscreen. I'm at least happy we got the arc done and over with and cleared up the rest of the season for other, more interesting (to me) things.
I've got no real thoughts on Bo-Katan, she's fine in this episode but like I said, inconsistent with her other appearances, I don't mind her being leader and having the darksaber but I would have liked her characterization to have more of a coherent throughline from TCW to Rebels to The Mandalorian.
Let's be honest I'm mostly just here for the Ezra/Sabine bits. <3
Next up, field trip with Crazy Uncle Saw!

Do they (or would they) pursue the other character’s affection, and if so, how? Do they tell the other character how they feel? Try to earn their admiration? Woo them with romantic gestures? Flirt with them, skillfully or otherwise?
This will have spoilers for my comic/script series. That can be followed here.
Tumblr media
Wolfram:
For most of the events of FFXIV Wolf was actively trying to NOT pursue Raubahn romantically because 1) He didn't think his ex could possibly love him back. 2) He didn't want to risk the voidsent within him hurting Rau. The voice in his head had often become louder anytime he actually thought of pursuing anything that could make him happy. Until the SB patches, he didn't even realize Rau had feelings for him too. (Lots of self-gaslighting.)
Despite that he often justified calling Rau's linkpearl, checking up on him, and planning outings/adventures for the two as "just having fun with an old friend."
During SB and ShB Raubahn is upset with him (he deserved it) and wouldn't even acknowledge him outside of work, so Wolf didn't have the opportunity to make amends. He tried calling his linkshell or sending him mail. Even sent a basket of coffee biscuits! Eventually, he cornered the commander after a war meeting. So uh ... I guess that's an example of pursuit? 😂
Most of his concerns were resolved in EW, a bit after Vanaspati. So while he was obviously focused on saving the world, Wolf did call Raubahn on his linkpearl when he could just to ask him about his day and how he was feeling given everything going on. Conversations occasionally got a bit flirty, but mostly he just wanted Rau to know that despite everything he was still thinking about him and cared about his well-being during the difficult time. After Wolf returned to Sharlayan he gave a big romantic speech about how he felt and they were married the next day.
Now that they're back together Wolfram is free to show his affection, so he enjoys finally getting to his charms on his husband. He's a shameless flirt and very good at it. 😂 Often he'll whisper something to Rau before he gives a speech just because he thinks it's cute when the Ala Mhigan commander is a bit flustered. Wolf isn't great at the usual romantic gestures like bringing flowers or chocolate, but he is an empath so he can usually sense if there is something his partner wants or if he needs cheering up. His go-to for showing affection is cooking Raubahn his favorite foods or sparring with the gladiator.
Raubahn:
From the ARR patches onward Raubahn knew he loved Wolfram. He was also pretty sure that Wolf was into him too. But he also knew him well enough that he figured he needed time to kind of get out of his own head about everything. Still, they called each other often and had *totally not dates* when possible. He did his best not to be flirty but it happened quite a bit anyway.
In SB he impulsively told Wolf how he felt. It didn't go well... In ShB they make amends but agree to be colleagues.
In EW Raubahn didn't join in Garlemald because Wolf would be there. He eventually changed his mind and decided the mission was too important. He was heading there in a spare flyer when Wolfram called his linkpearl in distress. So once he landed he headed right for the shack Wolf was hiding in, ignoring everyone else wondering why he was there. Wolfram was having a prolonged intense panic attack - triggered by Zenos's possession. Raubahn cursed himself for putting his feelings first and did his best to comfort Wolf. Once the mage calmed down he told Rau that the voidsent was gone. The commander did his best to hide his happiness, knowing that Wolf didn't need another distraction, but he did resolve to himself that they would get back together with that hurdle out of the way.
So for the rest of EW Rau sort of pursued Wolf from a respectful distance. 😂 He ended any casual relationships he was in. He started having his contacts in the thaumaturge guild research what could cause a voidsent to be forced out of a person unexpectedly like that. He didn't want to bother Wolf but did use a blasphemy in Ala Mhigo (that he could have handled himself) as an excuse to summon the Warrior of Light there because he had information he wanted to give him in person. While the news did cause Wolf to almost turn into a blasphemy himself, Rau talked him through the ordeal. He told Wolf how much he loved him and that he always would no matter what form their bond took. After the blasphemy aura left Wolfram, Raubahn comforted him and watched over him through the night. After that Rau started to become increasingly flirtatious (although he's more subtle than Wolf), calling the Warrior of Light's linkpearl at least once a day even though he himself was extremely busy too. When he learned of the journey the Scions would make to the end of the universe, he surprised Wolf by venturing to Sharlayan to see him off. Once the mage returned and confessed his feelings, Raubahn proposed (albeit horrible timing) and Wolf enthusiastically accepted. After they were wed Rau took about a month away from his position to take care of Wolf as he healed from his extreme aether sickness as a result of his sacrifice.
As far as showing affection, Raubahn is very good at big romantic gestures. Some examples - 1) Based on an odd thing Wolf said while recounting the night he was possessed by a voidsent and killed his family, Rau had his contacts in various city-states search for Wolfram's siblings. Eventually, he found them and helped his husband reunite with the brother and sister he thought he'd lost two decades ago. 2) For their first Valentione's Day he commissioned a special longsword with an aether focus pommel, allowing Wolfram to have a more versatile fighting style. 3) Knowing that being around so many voidsent could be difficult for Wolf, he asked Lyse to cover for him and went to the 13th with his husband. (Yeah, I still need to write that arc. It's wild.)

6, 8 and 9 forrrrr... Aisling and/or Rau??
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
6.) what does your s/i have most in common with you? what's different about them?
Aisling’s shyness is what I have in common with her. In terms of difference it’s the fact she could probably shoot a man with her pinky finger while my knee will crack when i even look at a weapon.
8.) how did you get the idea for your s/i's backstory?
One of my favorite movies is Song of the Sea by Cartoon Saloon. I also got inspired by your Ryuki s/i so I wanted to write about that!!!!! Also swan maidens = Miho and selkies = Aisling bc Aisling is a seal and I love myself.
9.) give us an example s/i outfit (or describe it).
Some sort of dress, with a shawl. Elegant and divine, kinda sorta cottagecore or something? :OOO. Or a suit. I think the dress would be cute, like a Victorian widow that’s waiting to off her husband-

If I have to suffer through the mental image of Fenn Rau singing “How We Operate” then so do you. It’s not my fault Kevin McKidd decided to play both the grumpy mando uncle man and the terrible husband doctor man, but he did. So here: just imagine Fenn Rau in place of Owen, or just picture Kevin McKidd with a stupid haircut in beskar’gam, they’re basically the same thing.

Do any other whump enthusiasts do LARP? If not, let me try to put you on to it:
LARP feels like heaven for my little deranged heart. I get to pretend I'm living out some of my favorite tropes and not be judged, because everyone else is living them with me.
My character Amos is the only healer in a group of fighters (admittedly my favorite trope). We have a ranger(Carlisle), a barbarian(Raul, my RL boyfriend and in-game husband), a rogue(Levi), and a witch who uses only attack spells(Seraphina).
One of my favorite tropes is the healer being forced to watch their party hurt/die because they cannot help them. In LARP, on more than one occasion, I have found myself targeted by enemies because they know my character is not a strong fighter, and I will be knocked down, unable to heal myself or my allies (and I plan to make a post about one of these scenarios next!) However, another one of my favorite tropes is betrayal, especially when no one else is around to see it happen. I got to experience something like that this event. It went as follows (dramatized in my particular writing style of course):
In the late night darkness, not even the moon was enough to be able to tell friend from foe. Amos could hear shouting from every direction, but he couldn't discern any of his party members from any particular voice. The light of a fire dart briefly illuminated the ground, revealing Levi, unconscious on the ground. Amos ran to him, already beginning to pray to the gods to heal the rogue.
Amos placed his hand upon Levi's forehead. "Levi, by the power of the gods, stand and fight!" Amos whispered in his ear, "Levi, Levi have you seen Raul? Is he alive?"
"I don't know," Levi coughed as he rose to his feet, "He was at the front with the other shield men. I was trying to flank them when I was hit by an arrow."
Amos tried, unsuccessfully, to spot his husband in the darkness. His eye was instead drawn to a colorful robe draped over a kneeling form, the form of a mage from another party.
"Levi, go find Raul! I have to go help Ajax!" The two began running in opposite directions, as Amos once again prepared to heal one of his allies. As he ran, Amos could hear the shouting moving further towards the woods.
"Ajax, are you hurt?" Amos cried, approaching the kneeling mage, "Ajax, look at me, I'm almost out of Favor to heal you, are you hurt?!"
With inhuman speed, Ajax stood and spun, swinging his blacksmithing hammer towards Amos' head. His head swam as he lay on the ground, looking up at his friend. Even in the darkness of night, Amos could see that Ajax's eyes were not his own. His once purple irises were now pitch black, and the grin on his face was unwavering.
"Ajax, it's me! It's Amos! Please come back, please Ajax!" Amos began to shuffle backwards on the ground, in too much pain to stand.
Ajax drew his dagger, and Amos attempted to stand and run. He didn't make it far, maybe five feet before he stumbled and fell back to the ground. Amos started to crawl, and right after Ajax began to giggle, Amos felt a stabbing pain in his lower leg.
"RAUL!!! LEVI!!!" Amos screamed. He knew better than to try to remove the dagger, and he kept crawling towards the longhouse. He could see the lit lanterns through the windows now, a beacon drawing him towards help.
Amos screamed again when he felt Ajax place his foot on his leg and rip the dagger out.
"Heal yourself, devoted," said Ajax, in a voice not his own, "We do so love when they run."
Amos placed a shaking hand on the wound, gasping at the pain, "By the gods, I heal this wound!" He felt the warmth spread from his hand as the wound began to close, and he stood, staring in shock at the possessed body of his friend.
Ajax tilted his head and grinned impossibly wide. "Run."
Amos turned back towards the longhouse, and as he began to run towards it, he saw lanterns moving towards him.
"RAU-" in a second, Amos was knocked back to the ground. He already felt the pain blooming from his back, where Ajax's hammer had hit him. Amos was rolled onto his back, and Ajax straddled Amos' torso, pinning his arms under his knees.
"Looks like alone time is over, devoted." Ajax raised his hammer above his head.
As Ajax swung, Amos heard only one thing before it all went black;
"AMOS!"

I just got a reply telling me to "educate myself" about the holocaust.
Which is. Amazing.
THIS is propaganda. The way people know nothing about the cooperators.
Fuck it.
Hi, you uneducated parrot -
Do you know what I used to read as a child?
Holocaust books. Yes, it's an actual genre here. I read children's books and prose and documentations and autobiographies.
I read Alona Frankel's autobiography ("Girl") when I was seven (no, that wasn't age appropriate. But I was curious.)
I read "Europe, Europe" and "My 100 Children".
I read Uri Orlev's books.
I know the names of the camps.
I knew about the death marches and that eating after long time of malnutrition would kill you and that they pulled out gold teeth from the corpses before I knew my ABC
I knew "Schnel" and "Juden raus" and "Aktzia" before I learnt how to multiply double digits numbers.
I grew up IN THIS MEMORY. It wasn't even something I got from home - it just. It was there. This lost is part of our lives.
I don't have direct links to survivors. My Yemeni grandma was the only one born in the diaspora.
My other grandmother told me that after the war, her grandfather came from Hungary to live with them. That he survived Auschwitz. But I learnt only recently, as an adult.
The holocaust was always two-steps-away. Almost, but not exactly.
It was the story of my great-grandmather, that until her last day refused to believe her sister is dead.
(Their refugee ship drowned. She died with her husband and children.)
It was my literal family tree - as one of my ancestral lines has a record of 10 generations of our family line.
(it's seeing branches that just. Disappeared.)
But sure, I'M the one who needs to educate myself. You ignorant self-centred moron.
Tumblr media
Btw, this was my reply:
Thanks for the Goysplenning. You should learn your own history first, murder apologizer. But again, I take it that's you're polish, aren't you? What can be expected. Your country literally made it ILLEGAL to talk about the war crimes done by pols. Did you know that the price for a jew was 1 kg of Sugar? Did you know that Goyish Partizans would kill jews and take their belongings? (Let me ask you a question: where are the jews of Jedwabne?)
Jewish people online: someone I know died :(
Goyim online: yayy another dead jew i mean, Zionist! Go back to where you came from!
Yemen (1 jew, imprisoned by Houthies): ...
Poland (ethnically cleansed 99% of the Jewish population in 8 years):
Tumblr media
(Not new. 2019, for example:)

In favour of some calculation
What is the cost of having a state
And what was the cost when we didn't

וכמה עולה לנו בלי.

Obidala Bridgerton AU part 3 -
(still don't have a title, help me out here people)
Notes: so this keeps happening. I needed a break from all the restrained emotional complexity of Trap so I give you . . . restrained emotional complexity in a different setting . . . I don't even know anymore. Actually, I'm supposed to be doing a different scene for this au as a birthday present for the lovely jui over on the obianidala discord, but I felt like I needed to lay down this one first. Also, the problem with writing and posting this nonsense in whatever order the mood strikes is that sometimes I find myself referencing things I know have happened but have yet to be written, so if at any point you're like 'but I need context' drop me an ask and I'll see what I can do.
previous parts: part i | part ii
part iii - picks up shortly after part ii
Later, once they are tucked safely back in their carriage, away from prying ears and he cannot escape, Padme asks the question that has been plaguing her all evening.
“Who was she to you?  The Duchess?”
As if there is some other woman they might be discussing.  Really, Padme.
Lord Kenobi turns away from the window to look at her, perhaps in the hopes of making her reconsider the question.  But it’s too dark for it to be effective, and really he should know better.  If the fact she went to the Lake Country with one intended husband she barely knew and returned with quite another, is not enough to tell him that she is fully capable of dispensing with properties and common sense when she wants something badly enough, well she really cannot help him.
Apparently he has come to a similar conclusion regarding her character, because after a moment he answers, so quietly that she has to lean close to hear it over the rattle of the carriage.  “An old friend.” When she just remains silent at such an unilluminating answer, he continues, “I was, in my youth, stationed in Mandalore for a year.  I knew her then.  We . . . formed an attachment, for a time.”
“You loved her.”  She doesn’t phrase it as a question.  Doesn’t need to.  The air is thick with it.  Or maybe that’s wrong.  Maybe it's just that she's so attuned to this very feeling, this specific mixture of wanting and not having that what would be barely noticeable to anyone else overwhelms her senses.
“Wildly.”
Padme presses her lips together, swallowing back the hitch of emotion she is not sure he would appreciate.  “What happened?  Did you not wish to marry her?”
This is really the question she has been wanting to ask since the beginning because it makes no sense.  He has a title, lands, money, all the things which stand between her and Anakin’s love, surely there was no reason for them not to boldly claim with both hands all the happiness she and Anakin must wait to steal away even a scrap of.
“I’m afraid you may have vastly overestimated our station if you think me a suitable match for the Duchess of Mandalore,” he says with a wry note, then adds quietly, “Not that that was what mattered to Satine in the end.”
“Then what?”
He doesn’t respond immediately.  And she has just begun to think that she has perhaps pushed this all one step too far even for an association as strange and improbable as theirs, when he finally continues.
“You may not remember this, but the region had, at the time, been on the brink of war for over a decade.  Tensions ran extremely high between various houses and factions, and Mandalore was in danger of tearing itself apart.  Satine’s family needed to shore up support if war was to be avoided.”
“They made her marry someone else?”
He laughs, It is a completely humorless sound. “No. No, wedding the Baron of Concord Dawn was entirely her idea. She found Fenrick Rau amiable enough and similarly devoted to their people’s welfare. It was, politically, exactly the right move.  And truthfully he’s proven himself to be an honorable and effective consort. Far more suited to the role than an upstart officer from a foreign land. I don’t think she’s ever truly regretted her choice.”
Padme thinks the woman she met in that ballroom regrets at least some things, but she doesn’t say that.
“Is this why you never married?”
It must be the carriage ride which lets her continue to be so forward.  The way the darkness and the noise have cocooned them as they roll on together through the night, creating an illusion of intimacy the manor house allows them both ample space to eschew.  She doesn’t know, but he must feel it too because she catches his nod in the moonlight.
“It did not seem fair.  To ask a woman to blindly tie herself to me, hoping for at least the possibility of love, and all the while knowing . . .” he sighs, “I know what you think of me, my dear, but I am not quite so cold as that.”
Unthinkingly she reaches one gloved hand out to rest lightly on his forearm, the darkness making her bold as she seeks some other way to convey the sympathy she knows he cannot see. He doesn’t say anything, but after a moment he covers it with his own. And they ride on through the night in a quiet companionable silence.
The story eats at her though.  The way it’s inches from her own, and simultaneously leagues away.  All this time she has thought him simply incapable of understanding, of comprehending the depth of their feelings.  Has resented him for demanding good sense and judgment prevail when he could not possibly know . . .
“You must think me very foolish and very selfish, to have done what I did.  Refusing to simply go quietly.”
“No,” he shakes his head, “No, I don’t-” he stops, the hand which had been covering hers shifting, and she can feel his fingertips play absently along her own as he chooses his words.  “Did I think your elopement, reckless?  Yes.  Ill-advised?  Absolutely.  And yes, perhaps your refusal to simply accept the impossibility was a bit selfish.  But only in the most selfless way.  To love that selfishly and that selflessly well that is a rare thing.  And if anyone deserves to be loved in such a fashion it's Anakin.”  Seeming to come back to himself, he removes her hand from his forearm, and places it back in her lap, with a sigh. “So no, no I don’t think you foolish at all . . . In truth, Ms. Naberrie, I find you rather astonishing.”

I've been thru a lot lately. C-section, other birth related complications, taking care of a newborn and getting my older kids to school and soccer and such, so many doctor appointments, sleepless nights, getting a flat tire with all of them in the car, plus my two dogs, and fortunately my husband, then having our 3 hour trip turn into 7 hours in the car with baby, kids, dogs putting up with it like champs, but what broke me... Was finding out that Napoleon's desk from St. Helena sold from MS Rau. Not that I could ever afford it, but it hurt. They were kind enough to tell me that it went to a private collector in Texas and that he may make his own museum and maybe we'll see it again one day.

Settlement: Idisimar of the Deep Wells, The City Without a Prayer
“The city’s had half a hundred names since it was founded; Idisimar, Usimat, Rau-tarmajin, titles shift whenever some new force rolls through the region and plants its ass in the throne up in that palace. My people however? the well diggers? well, they’ve been here forever, so long we don’t even have a name and will be so long as the water remains. In all that time we’ve learned something: you can feel when one of those shifts is about to happen... the city’s name stops fitting quite right, and you start looking around for who’s going to roll through and give it a new one.
Feels a bit like that now...doesn’t it?”
-Gashur of the house of builders, city guide and bastard heir to the fourth aquafer
Setup: To be king of the desert you must first control the water. This is the lesson learned by the many successive dynasties that have ruled the oft conquered city of Idisimar, each growing fabulously wealthy on the trade and agriculture that support the city, only to be picked off by an upstart rival looking to pinch a bit of the goodlife for themselves.
The latest of these would be rulers are a pair of lovers:  The ruthless raider and blademaster Ni’mat and her husband, the guileful seductor Talib Dawngraced. Ten years ago in the heat of their youth and passion these two raised a bandit army and conquered the city, ousting the previous ruler and installing their plunder hungry followers as enforcers and minitractors along the many traderotues that the city serviced.
For just over a decade, these two have held claim to the rich aquafers and vaulted cisterns of the city, which the the two set to protecting and developing the way another ruler might guard a vein of rare and precious ore. Where the previous rulers let the city's infrastructure to crumble in favor of the riches it could provide, the lovers usurpation led to unprecedented development that has continued to this day, ensuring there is always plentiful work for builders and diggers as aell as the city's numerous merchants.
Recently however a dark pall has been cast over the city of deep wells: the lovers have banned all itinerant lriests from entering the city, amd have expressly forbid public servicies of faith, going so far as to even place dissenting sects under house arrest within their temples, having their army of desert cutthroats nail the buildings' doors shut and throw supplies in utilizing a window.
Adventure hooks
The sudden prohibition on priests has created a strange pavilion of tents and makeshift shrines with different groups (some of whom consider the others heretical) forced to rub elbows and fight for favorable spots. A real-estate holy war may be brewing, worsened by the overcrowding and congestion created by the city’s faithful being forced to migrate outside the gates in order to attend services.
While the believers may be in crisis, their burrowers may be facing another: The diggers and aquatects that tirelessly repair and expand the city’s stockpile of fresh water have hit an odd snag: a creeping crystalline growth that appears to be spreading out of a newly discovered cave system and into the rest of the city’s system of cisterns and subterranean waterways. The spread is contained for now, but the engineers worry that such unpredictable growths could see vast amounts of the city’s water rendered tainted and undrinkable for years: effectively meaning a choice between plague or drought.
Idisimar is located at the head of a fertile river valley that leads out to the sea, and a primary stop on the desert spiceroad. Trade goods and exotic wonders of all kind pass through this well situated settlement, and the party is sure to be able to find a merchant in need of their aquisitional abilities, or a caravan soon to set out in need of guards.
Background: After proving themselves surprisingly benevolent rulers after their first decade of usurpation, the lovers find themselves restless, weighed upon by the realities of controlling and managing a realm and settling into roles that neither of them truely imagined when they first set out.  Conquering Idisimar had been in many ways an act of mutal love shared between the two, proof that their affection for one another could overcome any obstacle.  Neither is willing to admit that perhaps they would be happier abdicating and moving on with their lives, as that would mean that something had defeated them.
Into this vacuum of doubt and mounting stress stepped a particular advisor. Whether a servant of Heliod, the more zealous aspects of Pelor, or even The cult of the Hidden Sun, this mystic was able to convince the lovers that they were infact being put to test by the greatest of all gods, who disapproves of the theological anarchy that festers in their city. Surely one central god, ruling over the others, would bring order to the city, just as it would cement the lovers authority over it as the gods chosen rulers.
Talib has been taken in by this claim, eager to restore what may have been lost between the pair in the intervening decades, throwing his political influence behind the cult’s growth. Ni’mat is in contrast stuck with indecision. Her skills were always more practical, tactual, and these ephemeral matters of omens and divine order has left her fretting.

I'm FINALLY getting around to working on these again! To those of you who have unanswered prompts I promise you I'm working on them, it's just slow going
Also this prompt is exactly the excuse I needed to write this fic idea I've had for ages, thank you so much!!
Pairing: Bo-Katan Kryze/Fenn Rau
Word Count: 6,225
Warnings: Rated G, a bit of canon typical violence/blood
Read on AO3!!
Mandalore was at war.
From what Ahsoka knew of the planet’s history, this wasn’t exactly rare.
She had recently joined Bo-Katan Kryze in her mission to fight against Maul and his Shadow Collective, trying to help her reclaim her throne in Sundari. But it wasn’t easy. Many of the clans weren’t on Bo-Katan’s side— some because she’d been a member of Death Watch, others because of her sister.
But there were some who supported her. Among them, Clan Wren, led by their Countess Ursa. She’d been one of Bo-Katan’s Nite Owls, and now led her clan proudly. Ahsoka and Bo-Katan, along with those of the Nite Owls and other clans who were on her side, were currently hiding out on Krownest with Ursa and her family, planning and trying to figure out who were their allies.
It was going very, very slowly, though.
“Maul has turned too many of the clans against me,” Bo-Katan said. They were in a meeting room in the Wren compound— Ahsoka, Bo-Katan and some of her top lieutenants, Ursa and her husband Alrich. “We’re severely outnumbered, and we’re running out of clans to request aid from.”
“Without more reinforcements, it will be very difficult to reclaim Sundari,” Ursa observed grimly.
“There are outside influences we could go to for help,” Ahsoka pointed out. “The Jedi—”
“The Jedi couldn’t save my sister,” Bo-Katan bit out. Her tone was harsh, but Ahsoka wasn’t particularly bothered by it. She knew that her friend was still grieving, in her own rather strange way. “There’s no way they can save us.”
“There are other options, then,” Ahsoka persisted. “There has to be.”
“There actually is,” Alrich interjected, and all eyes turned to the man. He spoke little during these meetings, but Ahsoka had gotten to know him and his wife fairly well over the past few weeks. He was softer spoken as far as Mandalorians went, but still stood firm in his beliefs, and loved his family fiercely.
“And who might that be?” Ahsoka asked, noticing Ursa’s slight grimace as Bo-Katan turned her piercing gaze to Alrich.
Alrich’s voice was steady as he responded, however. “Summon the Protectors.”
Bo-Katan’s eyes widened, and she shook her head. “Absolutely not.”
“The Protectors?” Ahsoka frowned, casting about for what she’d learned for her first trip to Mandalore, years ago. Back when she’d still had the Order and the family she’d built from it. “Aren’t they the personal guards of the Duchess?”
“Yes, and they are sworn by oath to fight for the ruler of Mandalore,” Alrich said. “They would answer your call, my lady.”
“He has a point, Bo,” Ursa said quietly.
“I’m not asking for his— for their help,” Bo-Katan insisted stubbornly. “We don’t need them.”
“You just got through with saying that we do,” Ahsoka said, frowning. “Why—” she caught Alrich’s gaze, and the man gave her a quick shake of his head. Trust me, he mouthed.
Looking back at Bo-Katan, he said, “I have intelligence that says that Skull Squadron recently returned from a skirmish on Mygeeto. It would be perfect timing.”
“I’m not apologizing to him,” Bo-Katan growled, and Ahsoka frowned curiously. Who is she talking about? “Not under duress like this, and certainly not because I feel bad. I still stand by my views.”
“I know, and we’re not asking that,” Ursa pointed out. “Far from it— I still stand with you, as you know.”
“But we need the Protector’s help,” Alrich said. “Our people need their help.”
Ahsoka could see that his words had an impact on Bo-Katan. She winced visibly, biting her lip in a show of rare hesitation. A hundred emotions flickered across her face, finally settling on resignation with a hint of irritation. “Fine,” she said. “I’ll go. I’ll ask them for aid.”
“I’ll go with you,” Ahsoka offered suddenly. For a moment, she had no idea why she’d said it— but then she recognized the gentle nudging of the Force. For whatever reason, she was supposed to go with the Mandalorian she was starting to see as a friend. Possibly as a mediator, if Bo-Katan’s reaction to this is anything to judge by, she thought wryly.
“An excellent idea,” Alrich agreed.
Ursa nodded thoughtfully. “Not a bad idea. Rau may react rather hastily to seeing you. But having a Jedi as mediator, so to speak, might help the process along somewhat.”
Ahsoka elected not to mention the fact that she was technically no longer a Jedi as Bo-Katan nodded. “Fair point. In that case, we’ll leave in an hour.”
“We’ll see what other clans we can get in contact with while you’re gone,” Alrich assured her. “There are still a few other potential candidates for aid.”
Giving him a brisk nod, Bo-Katan quickly excused herself, slipping out of the room. As she left, Ahsoka turned to Ursa and Alrich. “Who exactly are we dealing with here, as far as the Protectors go?”
“In ordinary circumstances, it would be easy enough to convince them to fight with us,” Alrich told her. “Bo-Katan is technically the heir to the throne, and the Protectors are sworn to fight for the ruler of Mandalore. But…” he exchanged a look with his wife. “Things aren’t exactly normal in this situation.”
“How so?” Ahsoka asked, narrowing her eyes.
“Their leader, Fenn Rau, has a history with Bo-Katan.”
Ahsoka’s eyebrow shot up. “A history?”
“You should ask Bo about it,” Ursa said with a small smile. “But suffice to say things could either go very badly or very, very well.”
Ahsoka pondered that for a moment, and continued to mull it over as she prepared for her departure. Bo-Katan having a history with someone wasn’t necessarily a unique circumstance— she’d made quite the impact on Mandalorian society in her life.
But there was something different about this one, she could tell. Not just in the way Ursa and Alrich talked about it, or Bo-Katan’s reaction at the suggestion. Something in the Force around Bo-Katan made it obvious. She wasn’t just irritated or reluctant, although there was definitely that. There was also… anticipation. Anxiety. Maybe even a seed of hope.
There’s something different about this Fenn Rau, Ahsoka mused as she made her way to the ship they were flying to Concord Dawn, which was where the Protectors base was. Something different for Bo-Katan, specifically. And Ahsoka was determined to find out what.
Bo-Katan let Ahsoka fly the ship they were taking to Concord Dawn, electing to act as co-pilot. They slipped off of Mandalore without incident, and hit hyperspace not long after.
Ahsoka took her time before asking her first question, mulling over the best way to say it. Finally, she remarked, “I can’t help but sense some anxiety from you over this visit. Do you know this Fenn Rau?”
Bo-Katan’s lips tightened, and she glanced at Ahsoka. “Did Ursa and Alrich put you up to this?”
“Not exactly. They mentioned that you were close, but they didn’t tell me anything past that. All they said was that I should ask you.” Studying her friend closely, Ahsoka added, “I don’t mean to pry, so if it’s personal—”
“It’s fine,” Bo-Katan said brusquely. She paused, then her voice softened slightly. “When my father was killed during the civil war between the New Mandalorians and the clans that still followed the creed, my sister went on the run. You might know of this story— she was protected by two Jedi.”
“Master Kenobi and his master,” Ahsoka said, recalling the story Anakin had told her when he and Obi-Wan had returned from escorting the Duchess years ago. “They protected her from bounty hunters for years.”
Nodding, Bo-Katan said, “At the time, my sister had become something of a leader to the New Mandalorians, and one of their deepest supporters. Hence why she was such a target— and why we didn’t get along. We held some very different points of view.”
“What does that have to do with Rau?” Ahsoka asked.
“At the time, I wasn’t living with my family,” Bo-Katan explained. “I was living with a small covert of Mandalorians, most of them around my age. Among them were Ursa, Alrich, and Fenn. We were fairly close— when we weren’t fighting.” A small smile flickered across her face. “He’s always been just as strong-willed as I’ve been, and even as children we refused to back down on our opinions. He also took some exception to some of the company I started to keep.”
“Pre Vizsla,” Ahsoka guessed, and Bo-Katan nodded.
“He hated Vizsla, always did. The only person Fenn fought with more than me was him. And when my sister took over, I refused to bow to her rule and decided to join Death Watch… well. That was the end of our relationship.”
“He didn’t go with you?” Ahsoka asked.
Letting out a snort, Bo-Katan said, “That would have been problematic, to say the least. His duty as a Protector lay with my sister, as her personal guard. That meant bowing to her pacifistic totalitarian rule. And that was not something I could understand or respect.”
“So you parted ways,” Ahsoka said, the pieces clicking together in her mind. “And you haven’t spoken since then.”
“It was for the best,” Bo-Katan said, her tone turning brisk again. “After all, don’t your Jedi preach against attachments?”
They usually leave out the part about regret, though, Ahsoka thought, her mind flashing back to her master, to Master Kenobi, to Padme and the boys in the 501st.
The trip to Concord Dawn was short— they were out of hyperspace after only an hour. Ahsoka found herself staring out the viewport at what appeared to be a planet— or at least, what was left of one. Over half the planet was shattered to pieces, torn away in some war and scattered into the asteroid field that surrounded the remnants of Concord Dawn. “What happened?” she whispered.
“What always happens,” Bo-Katan replied from her seat. “War. The Protector’s base is on the third moon. We should probably hail them so they don’t think we’re Death Watch.” She didn’t move for a moment— Ahsoka could sense the nervousness flashing through her, the tumult of emotions. But the Mandalorian shoved them aside and reached forward, keying the button for the com.
It was a few minutes before anyone picked up. “New phone, who dis?”
Ahsoka saw Bo-Katan roll her eyes as she said, “Taneer Gedyc?”
“...only if I’m not about to get in trouble.”
“This is Bo-Katan Kryze, I’m here to speak to your leader.”
There was a muffled yelp, a crash, and some scrambling before the voice on the other end spoke. “Bo-Katan? Holy kriff, it’s been a while! How’ve you been?”
“Busy, as I am right now,” Bo-Katan said, an edge entering her voice. “Is Protector Rau there?”
“Hang on a minute.” There was a moment of silence, then Taneer’s voice came again, clearly a ways away from the comlink. “Hey, Fenn? Not to make this awkward or anything, but your ex is on the line. Do you want to talk to her, or—?”
Ahsoka had to choke back a laugh. It sounded so like something one of the boys from the 501st would have said— probably Fives. Next to her, Bo-Katan let out a sigh of irritation. “Typical,” she muttered. Ahsoka shot her an inquisitive glance, and her friend elaborated, “Taneer is Fenn’s best friend. He was always a little too invested in… us. Clearly, he hasn’t changed.”
Hiding a grin, Ahsoka turned her attention back to the audio from the comlink. Two men were clearly arguing in hushed tones in the background, which she and Bo-Katan could hear fairly well.
“Taneer, you can’t just say things like that!”
“What, even if it’s true? I’m just saying, you two disappeared together a LOT when we were teens. Like, a lot. Sometimes I wondered if she’d killed you and was hiding the body.”
“I’ve told you a thousand times, she just needed someone to talk to. As did I, if you may recall.”
“Semantics,” Taneer said. “Are you gonna let her visit? I hear she’s not into the whole Death Watch thing any more. You two could, as they say, make up and make out.”
“NO ONE SAYS THAT!”
“I’ve heard it both ways.”
“So help me, Taneer—”
Deciding it was time to intervene, Ahsoka leaned towards the comlink and said loudly, “Excuse me! Could I talk to whoever’s in charge over there?”
There was dead silence from the other end. Then— “Taneer. Did you forget to mute the com?”
“I forgot that was a thing, to be honest.”
There was a loud, drawn out groan from the other man, and then footsteps sounded from the comlink. Then the second man’s voice sounded more clearly. “This is Fenn Rau of the Protectors speaking. Who am I addressing?”
“Ahsoka Tano,” Ahsoka replied. “I’m here with Lady Bo-Katan Kryze, requesting an audience with you, Fenn Rau. It’s a matter of great urgency.”
The pause that followed seemed to stretch on for an eternity. Next to her, Ahsoka heard Bo-Katan catch her breath, her hands pressed against the dashboard. Then Rau’s voice sounded from the comlink. “Permission to land granted. I’ll take the meeting.”
The comlink clicked off, and Bo-Katan exhaled, sitting back in her chair. “He’s letting us land.” She sounded dazed, somewhat taken aback.
Nodding, Ahsoka said, “Now comes the hard part— actually talking to him.”
Bo-Katan let out a snort, a spark lighting up her gaze. “Oh, I can handle talking to Fenn Rau. The real question is if he can handle talking to me.”
~ ~ ~
As he switched off the comlink, Fenn Rau found his heart pounding harder than it had any right to after a simple call. But he knew, no matter how hard he tried to convince himself to believe otherwise, it wasn’t just a call.
She’s here, he thought. After all these years, she’s back— but why? What does she want? Does she feel the way she used to? Do I? Shaking his head, he thought, Now is NOT the time for that, Fenn. We have other things to worry about, like what her intentions with the Protectors are.
Taneer’s voice cut through his thoughts. “Soooooooooooooooooooo, Bo-Katan’s back, huh? That came out of nowhere, right? Any thoughts you’d like to share?”
Fenn let out a sigh as he directed a mildly irritated glare at his friend. Taneer had always been a little too invested in Fenn and Bo-Katan’s relationship— or lack thereof, really. There hadn’t ever been much between them before Death Watch and his loyalty to the Duchess pulled them apart.
Well. There had been that one time on Gargon, when they’d both thought they were about to die. But they’d never spoken about that in an unspoken agreement.
Aloud, he said, “The only thoughts I want to share are the thoughts that you should go find Vikki and some of the others. We need to prepare for Lady Bo-Katan’s arrival.”
“Come on, Fenn. You were close to her for almost our entire lives, and then you just… didn’t talk for years,” Taneer pointed out. “That’s not something you get over quickly. I mean, I wouldn’t know, my love life is literally the least problematic thing about me. Mainly because Vikki is so awesome and smart and beautiful. But I digress. If you want to talk—”
“I don’t,” Fenn said, his tone a little harsher than he’d intended
Taneer raised an eyebrow at him, looking relatively unaffected. “Harsh, but I’ll forgive it. I’m just saying, it’s not healthy to keep these things in. But if you insist on cramming your emotions down until you explode because of them… well, I’ve got your back, vod.”
Somehow, that was the only thing he could have said that slowed the whirl of thoughts in Fenn’s head. He’d known Taneer for years, and if there was one person he trusted to have his back, it was him. No matter how ridiculous he got sometimes. “Thank you, vod,” he told the other man. “Now, go and get the others ready to receive our visitors.”
Taneer nodded and headed out of the command center, leaving Fenn alone with the thoughts swirling throughout his head.
Bo-Katan was here. Probably coming down to the moon even as he thought of her. He was going to see her again, and he already felt like a teenager again.
They’d grown up together, in a covert of Mandalorian children escaping the chaos and violence of the civil war. There had only been minimal adult supervision, which had made for a lot of chaos of their own. Bo-Katan had been angry with her sister and the galaxy, grieving the loss of her father, and Fenn had seen that. He’d seen a lot more than just that in her fiery spirit and stubbornness, if he was being honest. But he’d befriended her, and they’d grown closer and closer over the years, until the war was finally over.
It had been quite a few years since they’d last spoken, and when they had, it hadn’t gone well. She’d been on the verge of following Pre Vizsla into exile, and he’d tried to convince her to stay.
Bo-Katan, in turn, had asked him to come with her. And Fenn hadn’t had any choice but to refuse. His oath as Protector kept him on Mandalore, guarding her sister. Protecting the very thing she had rejected so thoroughly.
It had enraged her, and they’d both lost their tempers, and said things they regretted later. Well, Fenn regretted it. He couldn’t speak for Bo-Katan— he never really could.
And now she was here. And Fenn would be lying if he said he didn’t hope there was a chance for reconciliation between the two of them.
It was a fool’s hope, but he held onto it all the same.
A chime sounded from his comlink, and he switched it on. Taneer’s voice emanated from it. “Lady Kryze’s ship has landed on the southwest airfield. Vikki and I are on our way to meet her.”
“I’ll meet you there,” Fenn told him, and keyed off the comlink.
The landing zone Bo-Katan had chosen wasn’t far from Fenn, and he made it there just as the ramp began to lower. Fenn caught sight of Taneer, his orange and yellow armor a bright shock against the darker background of the sky. Next to him was his wife, Vikki, who’s armor were more sedate shades of dark purple. The duo were his seconds in command and the people he trusted most in the galaxy.
As Fenn stopped next to them, Vikki asked quietly, “You ready for this?”
Not particularly, Fenn thought. But that wasn’t an option here. He was the leader of the Protectors, and it was his duty to represent them in the best way possible—
The sound of footsteps coming down the ramp snapped him out of his thoughts. Fenn’s gaze flicked up towards the slim figure moving into sight, and all other thoughts fled his mind.
Bo-Katan hadn’t changed much. Her red hair was still cut in the sensibly short haircut she’d worn the last time they’d spoken, and her armor was still the same shade of dark blue.
She was taller, though, Fenn realized as she approached. Almost as tall as him, which he hadn’t expected. And her eyes had changed. They still held the flinty stubbornness, but with a different layer of determination.
But she was still Bo-Katan. She hadn’t even spoken and he knew that. Still brave and smart and incredibly stubborn and bossy and beautiful.
She met his gaze, and Fenn internally braced himself. Okay, Fenn. Try and handle this with some professionalism. And for kark’s sake do NOT accidentally call her Bo. “My lady Bo-Katan.”
“Protector Rau,” Bo-Katan replied, her tone calm and brisk. “May I introduce my companion, Ahsoka Tano?”
Fenn reluctantly pulled his eyes away from her to see a young Togruta woman standing next to Bo-Katan. She couldn’t have been much older than eighteen, but stood with the confidence of a trained warrior. Her hands were clasped behind her back and she wore a polite expression, but Fenn saw a slight sparkle of humor in her eyes. “It’s an honor to meet you, Protector Rau,” she told him. “Bo-Katan’s had nothing but good things to say about you.”
Don’t look at her, Fenn ordered himself. Don’t look, don’t look— he glanced at Bo-Katan, who had flushed very slightly and was glaring daggers at Ahsoka. Looking back at Ahsoka, he said, “I’m honored, I’m sure. Although I somehow doubt I’m of that much interest.”
“I disagree,” Ahsoka said, and she was definitely grinning now. “We’re here, aren’t we?”
“Which does bring up a good point,” Fenn said, deciding it was probably a good time to stop talking along that line of thought. “What brings you here, my lady?”
That seemed to bring Bo-Katan back from her momentary embarrassment. Her face flashed to an expression Fenn recognized well. It was her bargaining face, the one she’d worn while convincing Weequay pirates that they’d be more useful to them alive. The one she’d worn while she tried to convince him to join Death Watch.
“I need your help,” she told him.
Fenn couldn’t have been more surprised if she’d gone down on one knee and proposed marriage. “What?”
“Maybe we should take this conversation somewhere privately,” Vikki suggested quickly.
“That does sound like a good plan,” Ahsoka agreed. “Do you have somewhere we could talk?”
“The cantina could work,” Taneer jumped in. “Follow me.”
As Taneer led the way forward, Fenn found himself taking up the rear, his gaze lingering on Bo-Katan as he walked. She needs my help? Bo-Katan had never excelled at asking for help with anything. Which meant something unusual had to be going on, and Fenn was more than a little intrigued to find out what it was.
~ ~ ~
Ahsoka had met more Mandalorians than she’d ever thought she would as a youngling in the Temple, and none of them were exactly the same. They all seemed to have their own unique take on what it meant to be a Mandalorian, which was fascinating to watch— both similar and unlike her own upbringing as a Jedi.
The Protectors had their own way of life, which was not unlike the way Bo-Katan’s people operated. There were differences, of course.
One that was strangely notable was the small cantina they’d gone into, which seemed to be a combination of a tapcafe and a mess hall, with a bar up front that Fenn Rau’s second in command, Taneer, had quickly taken over. Heading to a nearby stove, he’d removed the lid from a pot and, to Ahsoka’s astonishment, started serving up bowls of soup for them.
This was a tradition that she had a feeling originated with the Protectors. Probably Taneer, if she was any judge of character.
As she accepted her bowl of soup, she heard Fenn Rau say, “Well, my lady, may I ask what the urgency of this situation is?”
A subtle way of him saying “what’s happened that’s so horrible you have to ask for help?”, Ahsoka thought with internal amusement.
A small frown flickered across Bo-Katan’s face, then vanished. “I assume you’re aware of our battle against Maul?” she said.
“I am,” Rau said. “And… I was in the Outer Rim at the time, but I heard of your sister’s death. Allow me to offer my condolences. That is, if they’re warranted.”
Next to her, Ahsoka heard Taneer let out a soft groan. “Here we go,” he muttered.
“What exactly is that supposed to mean?” Bo-Katan asked, a dangerous look in her eyes. Ahsoka had seen it before— mainly she was about to dive headlong into a fight.
But Rau didn’t even flinch as he met her eyes. “It means that I’m well aware of the tense nature of you and your sister’s relationship. After all, last time we spoke you were hardly on the best of terms with her.”
“Well it’s been quite some time since we last spoke,” Bo-Katan replied, her tone brittle and angry. “Did it occur to you that some things might have changed since then?”
Rau nodded, as if acknowledging a hit. “I did hear that you attempted to rescue your sister before she died. The Protectors owe you gratitude for that as we were… unable to do our job.”
Ahsoka could sense the regret, the sorrow, the tension billowing through the room from both Bo-Katan and Rau, but all the former did was nod. “In the end, she was my sister,” she said briefly. “I couldn’t leave her to die at Maul’s hands. Not that it did any good anyways.”
Her voice shook very briefly on the last word, and Ahsoka saw Rau reach out and cover her hand with his gently. Neither spoke, but for a moment, the tense atmosphere was gone and they were just two friends, grieving a loss together.
Then Bo-Katan straightened up, squaring her shoulders as if prepared to charge headlong into battle. “I’m not here to reminisce, Rau. I need to call on the Protectors for aid. We’re trying to take Mandalore back from Maul, and we’re very low on support, despite my best efforts.”
“Well, you can’t exactly be surprised about that,” Rau said, and Ahsoka’s eyes widened. Oh, this isn’t going to end well—
“What,” Bo-Katan snapped, her glare icy, “is that supposed to mean?”
“Maul is here because Vizsla wanted him here. Vizsla, your leader.”
“I never supported the idea of an outsider,” Bo-Katan bit out. “How dare you insinuate otherwise?”
Next to Ahsoka, Taneer let out a long sigh. “Oh, dank farrik, here we go again.”
Ahsoka glanced at him. “Does this happen often?”
“All the time when we were kids. They love to fight,” Taneer said wryly, taking a sip from his bowl of soup. “They’d always make up, of course— Fenn makes a good apology when he wants to, and Bo-Katan has always cared about him enough to manage one of her own. Still, the fighting bit is always a pain to deal with.”
“You’ve been friends with Rau for that long?” Ahsoka asked, and Taneer nodded.
“Oh, yeah. We grew up together. He kept me out of trouble, I got him into trouble and shipped him with Bo-Katan. All the important stuff.”
Ahsoka took a thoughtful sip of her soup and found it was quite delicious— rich and buttery, filled with savory herbs. “And did you ever have any ways of getting them out of fights? Because this little spat can wait, but Mandalore can’t. The people need our help. We can’t let Maul rule.”
“You won’t hear me disagreeing,” Taneer said with a sigh. Glancing over at them, he added, “Still, it’s nice to see them arguing again, in a weird way.”
Ahsoka followed his gaze to where Bo-Katan was snapping something at Fenn Rau, jabbing her finger into his chest. Rau was glaring back, his arms folded and his jaw clenched against clear irritation.
It was a picture of complete disagreement— and yet somehow, it sent a twinge of nostalgia through Ahsoka. Feeling a small smile tugging at the corner of her mouth as she took another sip of her soup, she told Taneer, “I know exactly what you mean.”
Before Taneer could respond, the com on his wrist let out a chirp. Lifting it, Taneer said, “Excuse me.” Keying it on, he said, “What’s up?”
“We have incoming,” reported a female voice. “Five fighters just came out of hyperspace. They’re heading down to the surface, and I’m pretty sure they’re Maul’s.”
“Oh, fiddlesticks,” Taneer said with a frown. “Now I have to interrupt their romantically charged argument. Hey, Fenn!”
Rau looked up from where he was practically nose to nose with Bo-Katan. “What?” he snapped.
“Maul sent some of his boot-licking lieutenants to deal with us,” Taneer said. “Five ships full, to be precise.”
Fenn cursed, grabbing his helmet. “I’ll hold them off in the sky. Taneer, you’re with me. Vikki, handle ground defense. My lady, you and your friend are staying here.”
“I’m not just hiding like a coward while Maul sends people after you!” Bo-Katan protested. “Let us help.”
“Absolutely not,” Fenn Rau bit out. “Stay here, or I will lock you in this hut. I’ll come get you when we’re done. Is that understood?”
“I don’t take orders from you!” Bo-Katan flared, her gaze furious. “Let us help, or—”
“We’ll stay here,” Ahsoka cut in smoothly. Ignoring Bo-Katan’s outraged look, she dipped her head to Rau respectfully. “We’ll be sure not to get in the way.”
“Good to see that one of you has sense,” Rau muttered. Putting on his helmet, he headed out of the hut, Taneer and Vikki on his heels.
The minute the door closed behind them, Bo-Katan rounded on Ahsoka. “What do you think you’re doing?”
“I know you don’t like the Jedi particularly,” Ahsoka said calmly, pretending like she didn’t feel the usual twinge that hit when she mentioned the Jedi. “But let me share a piece of wisdom my master once gave me.”
“And what is that, pray tell?” Bo-Katan snarked, but Ahsoka could tell she was interested.
“Obeying orders is one thing,” Ahsoka told her, recalling the slight grin Anakin had worn when he’d told her the same thing. “How we go about doing it is another entirely.”
“Meaning?” Bo-Katan asked, but Ahsoka could see understanding dawning in her gaze.
“We said we’d stay here, but we didn’t say how long,” Ahsoka pointed out. “And you and I have enough battle experience to know how to not get in the way while we’re in the middle of a battle. We’ll wait for the right moment, then sneak out of here.”
“Not bad, Tano,” Bo-Katan said with a grin. “When do we leave?”
“Not yet,” Ahsoka instructed. She realized that, without even really thinking about it, she’d been relying on the Force to tell her when was the right moment. Old habits die hard, she thought. “But soon. We just have to be patient.”
“Not sure if you’ve noticed, but that’s not exactly a strong suit for most Mandalorians, myself included,” Bo-Katan pointed out.
“I know,” Ahsoka said absently, her mind focused on the Force. It hummed gently, seeming to say, Not yet. Just wait a little longer, a little longer—
An explosion rocked the ground, and Ahsoka’s eyes snapped open as urgency flooded the Force. She realized she was kneeling, and judging by her stiffness, she had been for a while longer than she’d expected.
“Let’s go,” she said, heading for the door.
“Finally,” Bo-Katan said, drawing her blasters and following Ahsoka as she keyed open the door.
Outside, the battle was in full swing. At least two of the ships had made it to the surface, and Protectors were fighting Maul’s commandos everywhere Ahsoka looked. Not for the first time, she cursed the fact she’d left her sabers at the Temple. But she’d have to make do with something else for now.
Before they could take two steps, the Mandalorian woman clad in purple and blue appeared from the fight, her blasters drawn. “Bo!” she shouted, darting towards them. “About time you showed up.”
“It would have been sooner if I had my way, Vikki,” Bo-Katan replied. “What’s going on?”
“We’ve got things mostly handled here— but Fenn’s ship went down,” Vikki said, and Ahsoka saw fear flash across Bo-Katan’s face.
“How? Where?” she demanded.
Pointing across the camp, Vikki said, “He was outnumbered, and Taneer couldn’t get there in time. One of the ships followed him— presumably to finish him off.”
Cursing, Bo-Katan said, “We’ll handle it.”
“Good— wait,” Vikki said, holding up her hand. “Do you have a weapon?” she asked, directing her question at Ahsoka, to her surprise.
“Not exactly, but I can hold my own without one,” Ahsoka replied. To her surprise, Vikki shook her head.
“No need to.” Reaching to her side, she pulled a wickedly long knife out of a sheath strapped to her leg. It was about the length of Ahsoka’s old shoto, and gleamed blueish-gray in the dim light.
“That might help a little,” she told Ahsoka.
“It’ll do just fine,” Ahsoka said, accepting the weapon. “Thank you.”
“Of course. Go get Fenn back.”
“Oh, we will,” Bo-Katan said grimly.
The two of them took off across the battlefield, weaving their way through the various structures as Protectors and Shadow Collective fought around them. None of them seemed to notice the pair at first, although Ahsoka doubted that would last.
When they reached the far end of the landing field, Ahsoka spotted a plume of smoke coming from a few yards away. “There,” she said, grabbing Bo-Katan’s arm and pointing.
She saw her friend’s jaw tighten. “If he’s not okay, I’m going to kill him,” she muttered. “It’s a good thing he’s a good pilot.” Without another word, she took off towards the crash, Ahsoka on her heels.
They stopped on the crest of a hill, looking down on the scene below them. The fighter had plowed into the ground, furrows of torn up dirt behind it. All things considered, Ahsoka had definitely seen worse crashes— it looked a little battered, but still flyable.
However, another fighter painted black and red had set down nearby, and four warriors were heading towards the remains of the fighter a little ways away. Ahsoka heard Bo-Katan take in a sharp breath.
“I’ll handle them,” Ahsoka told her, giving the blade Vikki had given her an experimental spin. It was heavy, but well balanced enough that she’d be able to fight with it. “You go find your boyfriend.”
Bo-Katan started to sputter an argument, but Ahsoka was already darting down the hill, heading straight towards the warriors. They turned at the sound of her footsteps, and Ahsoka called on the Force, launching herself into the air and somersaulting above them.
She landed and spun, swinging the blade she’d been given expertly. It clashed off the first warrior’s armor, sending sparks flashing through the air. Ahsoka grimaced— it was hard to adapt to a normal blade, so unlike her sabers. Remember the gaps in the armor, she told herself. They are vulnerable.
The warrior she was fighting lunged for her, and Ahsoka delivered a swift kick to his chin, sending him stumbling backwards. She darted forward, stabbing with her blade, and felt a lurch at the sight of blood as she drew back. Blood, so rare when using a lightsaber.
The commando crumpled to the ground, and Ahsoka went after the other, pushing aside her shock. The other two warriors were heading towards the fighter, and Ahsoka reached out with the Force, slamming one into the other as she engaged the final warrior, who had already drawn his own blade.
As they exchanged blows, Ahsoka heard Bo-Katan’s shout. “Fenn! Where are you?” She sounded… afraid. An emotion Ahsoka had never associated with her friend before. Interesting, she thought, and punched the Mandalorian she was fighting in the gut, right below where his armor ended. He doubled over, and Ahsoka slammed the hilt of the blade into the back of his head. He hit the ground, unmoving, and Ahsoka darted towards the fighter.
Bo-Katan was struggling with the hatch, her teeth gritted, and Ahsoka moved to her side. “Let me,” she said, wedging the blade of her weapon into the seam of the hatch. A little pressure with the blade, along with the Force, made it pop open quickly.
Rau was lying there, unmoving. Bo-Katan brushed past Ahsoka, grabbing him by his shoulders and hauling him out of the cockpit with a grunt. Pulling him free of it, she propped him against the side of the fighter and yanked off his helmet. “Fenn!”
Rau’s eyelids fluttered slightly at the sound of her voice, and Bo-Katan cursed under her breath. “Come on, Rau, don’t do this to me. If you die, I’ll kill you. Look at me. Fenn, please.”
He mumbled something, and Ahsoka saw Bo-Katan catch her breath, leaning in closer. “What?”
This time, Rau’s words were much clearer. “Since when do you say please, my lady?”
Bo-Katan let out a breathless laugh as his eyes slid open, locking with hers. “When I think I’m about to lose my best fighter, I make an exception.” Pressing her lips together tightly, she grabbed him by the shoulder and hauled him into a hug, pressing her forehead against his. “Don’t do that again.”
Rau let out a grunt of pain, but wrapped his arms around her all the same. “Yes, Lady Kryze.”
When she finally pulled back, Bo-Katan shot him a wry smile. “Just like Gargon all over again.”
Releasing an undignified snort, Rau said, “You and I remember Gargon very differently.” He paused, then said, “We’ll give you aid. But after this, I don’t know how much we can help. Least of all me.”
“Thank you,” Bo-Katan told him. “We’ll figure it out.”
“I might have an idea about that,” Ahsoka said quietly, and both Mandalorians jumped— clearly, they’d forgotten she was there.
“Well, why didn’t you tell me that earlier?” Bo-Katan demanded.
“You’re telling me you’re sad about our visit here?” Ahsoka said, giving her an amused look. “Besides… you’re not gonna like it.”

what would a lazy sunday look like for Wolfram and Rhau?
Thanks! That's a great question and I really had to think about it. I'm more of a GPoser than a writer, but this deserves a longer answer so I'll try my best! This may not fit everyone's definition of a lazy Sunday, but it's how a day where Wolfbahn doesn't have to work looks like.
As of the end of 6.0 they're married and live in Raubahn's suite within the Ala Mhigan palace. Their relationship isn't well known except to some of their friends and palace staff. It's a secret for now out of concern for causing political issues for the Scions. Their home:
Lazy Sunday
Tumblr media
Sleeping in late is a must on any lazy day. They spend the morning snuggling under a thick comforter (for those surprisingly chilly Gyr Abanian nights). Raubahn always wakes first but on these days he pretends to be asleep just to enjoy more time as a little spoon even if Wolfram is snoring loudly in his ear. Once they finally start their day Raubahn takes a quick bath and makes the bed while Wolfram cooks brunch. One of their favorite dishes is Farmers Breakfast, which Wolf learned to make in La Noscea. The weather is nice so they take a stroll around the Royal Menagerie with their bulldog Terror before dropping him off with Arenvald for the day.
Tumblr media
They return home to put on their armor then fly off to one of the many remote parts of Gyr Abania they like to explore. The afternoon is spent enjoying the scenery and time together. Wolf had finally asked Rau for some gladiator training so they find a good area to spar and do that for a while. Then they find a shady spot to cool off near a stream. One thing leads to another...
Tumblr media
Once back in Ala Mhigo they invite Lyse, M'naago, and Arenvald over for dinner. Wolfram loves cooking for his friends even though discussions tend to veer off into matters of state. He cracks a joke to lighten the mood. No work on their lazy day! Arenvald asks if they could invite Fordola next time. A quick glance between the husbands tells each other that they're on the same page. Raubahn explains that they'd like to get to know her a bit better before trusting her with their secret. Arenvald points out that she has likely known for some time due to her synthetic Echo. The Aldynns laugh off their embarrassment in a most undignified fashion before promising to include her next time.
Tumblr media
With their friends gone and the dishes done they retire to their very spacious bathtub, letting the warm water wash away the aches of the day. Wolfram complains that his hair is getting too long. Raubahn stops massaging his husband's scalp long enough to forbid the Warrior of Light from cutting his locks in a tone usually reserved for Monetarists he means to cut in half. Wolf laughs and promises he'll never speak of it again. They go to their bed, ending the lazy day... lazily.
Just kidding! They're newlyweds. They ain't goin to sleep yet! 😂

Do you like/have a positive opinion on the first Seed series? Do you think it has any merits at all? I like a lot of the adult characters even if over all the series is dumb.
short answer: not really, no.
longer answer:
Gundam Seed had a lot of potential to be good. As absolutely terrible as most of the writing is, there’s a basis for discussing themes of predestination and self-actualization in the series. coordinators being eugenicist designer babies and naturals being normal humans are the most obvious place to start, but it’s also reflected in things like how natarle questions her loyalty to the army vs loyalty to the archangel crew and flay starting off being a despicable and manipulative bitch and developing into someone that sees the humanity in everyone.
and as much as I really do hate to say it, if viewers dont have well-developed media literacy, they can come away thinking this theme was well-implemented, as well as thinking that Seed has something to say with its blatant allegories for racism. it’s very much a typical Baby’s First Anime for tackling “gray” morality and darker topics. two of my close friends pretty much admit they hold this series close to them only because it was a series they happened to watch when they were younger.
but any topic fukuda and morosawa (series director and writer respectively, also husband and wife, go figure) try to tackle is bungled up by the most hamfisted, juvenile delivery and critical lack of understanding about racism, about imperialism, about subtlety and nuance, and even just writing in general. any possible good that is buried within this series is completely undermined by plot holes, characters being idiots, and protagonist-serving hypocrisy about the themes and morality.
it really says something about fukuda and morosawa’s inability to deliver anything meaningful when the two characters I mentioned before, natarle and flay, come the closest to having decent writing but are both still violently killed off without being accompanied by any imposed sense of narrative or thematic catharsis like they at least attempt for mu. rau also comes close to Actually saying something, as he was a the product of pretty extensive tampering (ie SUPER eugenics) like kira is but the process left him with debilitating health problems and a short lifespan. he also points out that the introduction of coordinators just introduced yet another conflict-inducing rift with humanity, both between themselves and naturals and even within coordinator communities when parents shun children that dont turn out like they planned. rau isn’t wrong, and nothing the characters do actually refute his points. but the series refuses to actually acknowledge that there’s anything wrong with the systems currently in place and the protagonists and their allies fight to uphold it. because kira’s the result of the system, there’s nothing wrong with it.
and a pretty clear example of how awful the writing is even without the terrible racism and eugenics themes is when early on, murrue says that mu should use the strike gundam instead of kira because he is a grown man and an actual enlisted soldier. he refuses because… using mobile suits is hard for him. he’s sending an actual child out to fight because he’s lazy. and then there’s how kira is fully capable of creating an entire OS to make operating a mobile suit easier for mu, which he does in the actual first episodes for the strike gundam for himself. but the series just doesn’t acknowledge it again until closer to the end of the series…when kira does exactly that and mu pilots the perfect strike no problem. the series completely sidesteps common sense, morality so long as main characters are involved, and their own established plot beats and characterizations So The Cool Thing Can Happen.
short answer again: seed is thoroughly awful and has no merits.

No, I am not fucking with my bad luck and winding up pregnant. I would NOT carry it to term and an abortion would traumatize me so yeah I'm staying safe. Ever had sex with someone in the room? I would never, that'd be so fucking awkward. That's private business to me. Where do you wish you were right now? With Girt. I miss him a whole lot; he still isn't feeling too great. Have you picked out flower petals, saying, "He loves me, he loves me not?" No. Are you a small town girl, or from the big city? Small town girl, livin' in a LOOOOONELY WOOO-OOOORLD. Do you ever look in the mirror and are surprised by how good you look? Hell fuckin' no, I wish. Is anybody in your family schizophrenic? If so, what is their life like? My dad's I think oldest daughter that I don't know is. Her schizophrenia and name are all I really know about her. Why do girls like six-packs? What’s wrong with a soft pillowy tummy? This is a very presumptuous question; not all girls care about what someone's stomach looks like. I personally don't care if someone's ripped or has a prominent stomach. Are you feminine, masculine, or quite androgynous? I guess feminine in appearance, but I'd say my interests and such are more androgynous if we're following stereotypical guidelines. Have you ever read any self-help books? No, they're not something I have fun reading. Do you thank the bus driver? I don't take a bus anywhere, but if I did, I absolutely would. Not doing so is a pretty garbage thing to do. Show some appreciation for people doing jobs that must be done and yet don't pay enough. How did you and your first best-friend meet? Our older sisters were best friends, actually. Do you like short hair on girls? UGGGGHHHHHHH YES. Pixie cuts especially are fucking cocaine. How about long hair on guys? mmmmmmmmmmmm that's some GOOD SHIT Are you scared of needles? ... Confession time, I've been getting weird about getting my blood drawn and especially getting shots lately, eheh. And yet a piercing or tattoo needle brings me comfort and happiness. Idk how the hell to explain the logic, I just don't like the idea of something really sharp digging deep through layers of my skin. The last time I had to get blood tests done, my vein even hid because my anxiety was up. They had to resort to my other arm. It's so weird and even embarrassing to admit when you're totally cool with needles for cosmetic purposes. What is currently the most tan spot on your body right now? Nowhere.
