Okay but he also just plays casual games. He's like, playing Webfishing and Animal Crossing and yes of course he plays horror games, all calm and chill with his sona drawing (I'm thinking..oh I'm thinking... it's hard to explain because I can picture it but I can't explain it-) a lil merman type guy with skeleton fish curled around him in the corner of the stream.
Nobody knows anything about him. Any personal questions are struck down either by the moderators (it's just Yin Yu because this is once again my agenda of Mother/gege Yin Yu who is like "go ahead and do your silly dismantling of the corrupt government while I deal with the nosey people in your chat :D") or by Ming Yi's other fans who are very serious about his privacy for different reasons. (Either out of respect, because they like his mysterious vibes, or because they understand that if Ming Yi's identity is figured out, he's Fucked.)
Modern AU streamer He Xuan whose handle is Ming Yi and nobody sees his face, and he spends most of his time finessing legal systems while calling out the corrupt with mountains of evidence at hand.
When he sends out a warning announcement that he's posting, everyone watching his social media pages lights up, some with fear and panic, others with delight and excitement. All anybody knows is if Ming Yi mentions your name in one of these announcements, there is no hope for your survival.
He's a silent predator, a creature crawling from the underwater abyss and when he's on your radar, it's likely you've been on his for far longer.

﹄ ◇ ; @riwrite / BALDUR'S GATE 3 STARTERS
❝ evil is evil, even if it once was innocent. ❞ / from hx..... wahhh
Tumblr media
⌜◈⌟    ▌ ──  "𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐠-𝐱𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐠, 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐥 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐞 𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐦𝐲 𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐡 𝐚 𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐝𝐚𝐲. Can't you ever say anything light-hearted?"
𝐒𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐢𝐭 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭. It would be so easy. How many times has she done this already? Breezing past Ming Yi's stoic observations with a nod or a bit of light teasing, taking his hand to lead him one way or another, laughing while the line of his mouth remains taut. That's just how they are. Night and day. Steadfast earth and playful breeze. It's not that she doesn't want to engage further with his thoughts. It's that so few trust her to understand anything heavier than a backhanded compliment, she doesn't know how to contend with this sudden weight.
𝙀𝙫𝙞𝙡 𝙞𝙨 𝙚𝙫𝙞𝙡. Good is good. Innocent is innocent. Immoral is immoral. Gods are gods. Ghosts are ghosts. The sun is warm, and its light is pretty on your hair. Return the compliment, won't you please?
𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐚𝐥𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐲 𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐒𝐡𝐢 𝐐𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐱𝐮𝐚𝐧 𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐞𝐲𝐞𝐬. Sunlight kisses her face, haloing the dark behind her eyelids. "You're right," she concedes, and she could swear the sunlight is pooling in her mouth, warming her tongue into complacency so it won't shy away from giving shape to her thoughts. Because, truth be told, she has had similar conversations with herself. She's not sure when they began to take form; the Banyue Pass affair, perhaps. "But I think there's more to it than that."
Tumblr media
𝐒𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐬 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐥𝐞𝐟𝐭 𝐩𝐚𝐥𝐦 𝐮𝐩𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝. "Evil is evil, even if it was once good." She turns her right palm upward. "Good is good, even if it was once evil. We'd all be better off if everyone could understand something so simple. Except it's not that simple, is it? Most everything is more like this." Her hands come together with a soft pompff. "Saying it's this way or that way doesn't do anything. If evil is evil even though it was once innocent, then it's our duty to grieve that loss of innocence just as passionately as we punish wickedness. Someone has to know the full truth. Then the same thing won't have to happen again. That's why we gods are here, after all. And..."
𝐒𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐩 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐢𝐭 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐤𝐞𝐞𝐩𝐬 𝐭𝐮𝐦𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐮𝐭. Strangely enough, she doesn't feel very afraid of what he might say in return. Even if he's mean about it, she can bear it because he's her best friend. Who else could she trust with her most secret, fragile thoughts?
"...𝐖𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐬𝐨 𝐝𝐨𝐧'𝐭 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐢𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧. The innocent becoming evil, I mean."
𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐒𝐡𝐢 𝐐𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐱𝐮𝐚𝐧 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐬 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐞𝐲𝐞𝐬, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐮𝐧 𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐡𝐞𝐫. Between blinks, she catches a glimpse of Ming Yi's face again. He's still frowning. How very Ming Yi of him. Laughter tumbles from her lips.
Tumblr media
"𝐈 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝𝐧'𝐭 𝐥𝐞𝐭 𝐦𝐞 𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐢𝐭 𝐢𝐟 𝐈 𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐡 𝐚 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧. It's hard to imagine you crying, but rest assured I would still cry for you if you ever became such a person." Folding her arms, Shi Qingxuan levels Ming Yi with a self-assured stare. "That won't happen, though, so let's not think about it. Do you know what is entirely possible?" She points directly between his eyebrows. "You giving yourself ugly old man wrinkles by scowling like that."

Wonderful News! TGCF is unlocked on JJWXC!🎉
After being locked down a few years ago, there was no word on whether or not we would ever see TGCF on its original publishing site of JJWXC. However, just today, it's been unlocked and is available for purchase again!
It also seems to be the newly revised version, as well as being uncensored (i.e. the kisses and such are still there, and have not been removed as they were for the physical release in China).
Tumblr media
For those maybe wondering why it's so significant:
Purchasing the webnovel most directly supports MXTX, and you can tip her directly there as well.
This is the only novel of hers currently available on JJWXC -- as MDZS and SV are still locked -- thus making it the only way to do the above.
This is now the newly revised edition of TGCF, and since it's on web browser, we can more feasibly MTL it if you wish to experience the revised edition as a non-CN-speaker! The only other options until now were fan translations of certain chapters, and the audio drama. If you're curious about certain changes, you can now check it out yourself whenever!
Bonus blog post by MXTX:
Tumblr media
She has mentioned that she's temporarily paused work on her 4th novel (and that it's changed quite a bit from the original concept she had so she privated the original synopsis for now), but assured fans that she has not stopped writing! This is one of the rare times we actually heard directly from her in recent years, so it's definitely reassuring.

Reading TGCF: Chapter Fifteen
Tumblr media
For those who don't know, I am reading TGCF for the first time and sharing my thoughts!
If you have not read it, there will be spoilers! Consider this a warning.
Also- if you want to follow along, I am aiming to post updates daily. You can find all the posts in the tag Bloopitynoot reads TGCF. You can also check out the intro post for context on my read BUT if you followed along with my SVSSS read, the rules and vibe are the same.
Tumblr media
I am finding out that tumblr censors some words so my last post did not appear in my tag, so if you want to read Chapter fourteen it's here.
Censorship is trash but here we are; white tea on a Monday while I do laundry and read between loads.
Let's go chapter fifteen!!!!
Tumblr media
My heart! I just want this face-disease-kid to be safe. Why does he keep running from Xie LIan p97
Xie Lian over here running through the city like an absolute wrecking ball. Only then to be essentially invited to the most exclusive club as a VIP is incredible. pp98-99
Hua Cheng is really playing the most expensive game of card stacking; pure gold-leaf. p101
My heeeaaaart! San Lang saying Puqi shrine feels like home p105
Same San Lang, "That an idiot like Lang Qianqiu can ascend..." p107. Lang Qianqiu- certified himbo.
:'((((((( this poor baby, he cut the faces off his face. Omg i want to hug him so bad. p109
The White Clothed Calamity sounds so scary. That mask is actually horrific. pp110-111
Hua Cheng and his mysterious errands- I hope we do find out what his business is because I am so curious about his character. p113
WTF secret agent Xie Lian; ceiling edition. p114
Tumblr media
Okay curious secret room that can only be opened with dice. p116. I also love how Xie Lian gave up immediately . Like nope, he knew that he would never realistically be able to open that door no matter how many times he rolled LOL.
What a crazy date; goes to a very secret and super special rare armoury. San Lang: they're all yours baby, whatever you want. pp118-119
oh wait, why is the scimitar kind of cute though! p120
One more thing I didn't really talk about in my notes but keep thinking about:
I love how Xie Lian just fucking left the wind master and Lang Qianqiu in his dust. Like, "ah yeah, I'm gonna go, just maybe meet me here in three days? okay, byyyyeee." LOL This is so funny to me, I desperately need a pov from the other two. Especially since the wind master absolutely regretted all of their choices to take Lang Qianqiu on this mission LOOOOOL.
Also, the fact that Xie Lian showed even a hint of interest in the boy and san lang 1. finds him immediately 2. was fully prepared to raise him as his own LOL.

Cursed Luck - TGCF FANART
I'm working on a by now 35k+ word fanfic for TGCF on Ao3 and made fanarts for it here and there bit by bit. This is all the art I made so far:
Disclaimer: These are all very quickly done sketches not finished paintings or fully rendered. They are just meant to visualise some characters and concepts.
Background: The fanfic is a pre-third Ascension story of Xié Lián accidentally ending up in Ghost City a few years after his Banyue arc and ends up working at the gambler's den. He is however masked and due to a mixture of self-loathing on Huá Chéng's side, Xié Lián's astonishing luck, and pure stubbornness of the ghost King, Huá Chéng does not recognise him and manages to dig his grave deeper with each of their interactions.
In summary, it's identity porn and Xié Lián better be fast when Huá Chéng uncovers his real identity before the ghost can crush his ashes out of shame and guilt.
-
Tumblr media
This was the first Sketch I made (about a year old) and is based on the concepts of hosts at the gambler's den.
In essence, I expanded the world building for this fanfic and separated the workers at the den in three categories: Guards, Hosts, and Maids.
(Details in the fic)
Xié Lián was sorted in the role of host most of the time due to his stunning beauty.
-
Tumblr media
Tao is a wrath level ghost who gambled years of his existence away at the den and is now serving there as a host. He introduces Xié Lián to everything and over time they become friends.
His attitude is rather childish and youthful despite being over a century old. He has fun luring in patrons and taking them for all their worth at the gambling tables.
This was my third sketch for the story and is also already over half a year old.
-
Tumblr media
Zhèn Yuè was the most recent addition to the casts of OCs in the story. She is a vengeful ghost who poses several mysteries at this point in the story. Established is only that she won her first gamble against Huá Chéng for resources to enact her revenge on those who killed her but then came back and asked to be dispersed. Huá Chéng made her gamble for it and she lost.
Now she is the head of his security at Ghost City's core establishments.
She and the disguised Xié Lián spar often together, which XL is always very excited about since she has a very unique fighting style.
(I want to add a bonus fic in the future about her backstory and first encounter with Huá Chéng.)
The sketch is one of the most recent ones.
-
Tumblr media
Subsequently these are old sketches of Xié Lián sparring in his host outfit. I made these together with the sketches for Tao but didn't end up using them until the last chapter I posted 2 days ago.
-
Tumblr media
This shows the specific scene of Xié Lián's and Zhèn Yuè's first spar. Xié Lián having once been the strongest martial god defeats her ofc but during their spar he notices something very rare: she uses a fighting style he has never encountered before.
Being the — honestly — nerd he is when it comes to all things marital arts he gets really excited and asks to be taught the technique, forgetting the circumstances and that he was still pointing a sword at her.
He was denied. Making him very sad 😔
The most recent sketch.
-
Tumblr media
Lastly this is a sneak peak for the next chapter and will be part of the reveal. So I won't add too much here. One of the more recent sketches along with Zhèn Yuè's.
As I said these are all sketches. I just wanted to share my love for this fandom and ship! I'm so excited to get to writing the next chapter once I find the time!!!
Any feedback would be appreciated 🥰
I like to think that I improved over time.
Oh also here is the fic in case any of you are interested: https://archiveofourown.org/works/54425590

I think you are actually lucky when you have got friends in real life who are link click fans.
like one day I was screaming about anime in my class during break
that one who said " there is link click..." and I replied like a pretentious wise sheep, "yeah, the season 3 is coming " having no fucking idea why did she just juxtapose it with nana and banana fish. Bro her voice trailed off when she said that, I noticed the eerieness but didn't think much.
that one who will slit your throat if you say lu guang is 'selfish' and 'hypocrite' (I think after Yingdu I'll do the same if people say that) or associate any other pejorative with him. overtly emotional but surprisingly critical when the dialectic just sets in. this is the friend I often mention in my posts. she is very passionate about link click.
then there is this one...we were collectively losing our minds over the fact that tgcf donghua Hua Cheng's va is Liu Xiao's va. she reads my Shiguang fics, and even though she hasn't watched it yet, she just gets it. It's so satisfying talking to her. And whenever I am on the verge of almost breaking down over Shiguang, she comforts.
One big thing Link Click has done is to launch this discourse on queer life narratives with my classmates/friends I didn't know I needed.
Don't get me wrong, I am not anti-ally or something, but it personally makes me comfortable that all of us are queer. How they add their similar anecdotes while discussing a very mundane, almost unnoticeable detail from link click and recognise it as queer is very soothing to me. I will write a blog one day that will explore how link click is queering the narrative itself, not just handling representational politics in terms of queer characters and tropes.
Many queer people I have talked to cannot relate to the emphatic portrayal of queerness in mainstream queer media (like if you suddenly give an Shiguang kiss scene or god forbid say gex scene, those will become the hallmark of their queerness without any argument, if Haoling handles it, he will handle it beautifully retaining the essence. But I have seen other media where a kiss becomes the certificate of their queerness, other developments are neglected for the sake of it. It is the politics of representation, limiting queerness to a specific acceptable expression, which very much echoes heteronormative essentialism!) Link Click is a rare gem which builds itself upon nuanced queerness. Nuanced and that's why it hits so close to home.
Let's see this logic :
1. Shiguang had sex or shared a kiss scene : homophobic people will condemn link click altogether for just this.
2. Lu Guang literally wasted his life and youth to save Cheng Xiaoshi : oh just two bros can do this- trust me, they can't. Stop weaponizing the word ' friendship ' and launch a reductive rhetoric. You find them friendly and brotherly, fine but other interpretations are as valid as yours.

https://olderthannetfic.tumblr.com/post/739683077572395008/kids-in-my-anime-adjacent-fandom-discoursing-over
Reminds me of the time I found out that most East Asian BL writers actually have a set bottom/top dynamic and that switching is very very rare. I think the author for MDZS/The Untamed said that the main couple shouldn't be switched, and that the Chinese Danmei fandoms do follow that for the most part. As in, most Danmei fandoms do not switch the dynamics of the top/bottom in general, nor do they do much switching at all? Which makes it absolutely hilarious how the Western fandoms keep insisting certain Danmei boys to be switches or switching their dynamics and claiming it's canon. TGCF/Heaven official's blessing seems to be such a case, from the same author as MDZS. Author says Red dude is the top, and White dude is the bottom. Western fandom starts arguing dynamics because there's no porn in the books. (Apparently Chinese censorship bc one of them is a God.)
And just to be clear, I'm just sharing what I got told, so if you don't like it, that's not my problem. If I'm wrong though, I'd welcome the clearing up.
--
Sighhhhh.
Anon... Yes, this is roughly correct, but it's also just tonally kind of wacky. It's like if someone sent me an ask going "Apparently, some women ship m/m, but don't quote me on that".
If I don't like it, that's not your problem?
Really?
What a whiny bitch-ass thing to say in someone's inbox, dude.
--
Anyway, on the actual topic, yes, 100% strict top/bottom roles have been the norm in many Asian fandoms and, to some extent, foreign fandoms for Asian media.
That doesn't mean nobody ever likes switches there though. There are terms for that. It's just not as common and doesn't sell or get clicks as well.
Yes, you can generally tell from BL/danmei canons exactly who the top and bottom are even if there's no sex. It's like reading a Regency romance novel and figuring out which love interest is "the rake" or whatever. It's more than just who sticks it in: It's a whole constellation of character cliches that go together.
The only reason Western fans can't tell is 1. bad translations that lose the flavor of the original, 2. n00bs not knowing the tropes, 3. willful blindness.
It's like that post from a while back about shizun-fuckers. Yeah, there are tons of ships where the older partner is the top, but this trope is about reversing that, and it's so unbelievably unsubtle.
I've heard that Yami no Matsuei's set of leads is so wacky because the author changed direction on who was the main lead and who was supposed to read as more of a bottom and thus this one dude doesn't read as quite the trope he was probably originally supposed to be.
(Cue reheated zombie wank about who's the bottomiest bottom out of all of the abused woobies in YnM.)
--
Re Chinese censorship, it has varied over time. I'm no expert either, so people are welcome to chime in, but basically, a lot of horny stuff is straight up illegal on the mainland and they've been cracking down in recent years in a way they didn't a while back.
A lot of danmei novels will have the less censored version printed in Taiwan.
It's not just about some character being a god: it's about the entire concept of pornography being illegal.
Some decades, you can push the boundaries a lot; some, you can't.

They’re doing great here but horrible on Twitter, so if you want to help along the strip game, that link is in the last post I put there!! Thanks for the ask! I love TGCF so much but it’s like staring directly into the sun, so I’m being careful about how much I get into fanart for it. 🥲

Time for my Qi Rong fic semi-masterpost, AKA all the fics I've read that have characterized and delved into Qi Rong's character in a way very few TGCF fans do. Consider this a Qi Rong bible if you will. None of these are in any particular order, these are just fanfics I fell in love with through Qi Rong's characterization. 1. My Nuisance by FallLover
Honestly an amazing fic with amazing Qi Rong characterization. He may not be part of the main pairing in this one, but the comparisons between Yin Yu and Qi Rong are absolutely beautiful and delve into both characters' motivations and ideas post-canon. It also acknowledges Qi Rong's hatred brought by betrayal and his self-harming tendencies. Honestly an amazing fic, even in QuanYin isn't your cup of tea, specifically for the amazing characterization. 2. When the Sun Comes Up I'll be There With You by lordydoo
Once again, amazing Qi Rong characterization, and also provides some much needed Guzi stuff. It may be Qiurong, but most of the fic is Qi Rong-centric as he navigates a new life. The story's realistic while still retaining the original novel's character motivations. Qi Rong is insanely well written in this fic, and you can tell the author put a lot of thought into his backstory and reasons he is the way he is. Also, Xuan Ji wingwoman. We love girlbosses.
3. A Lesson in Sans-Serif by pearliegloom
Honestly I could write an entire other post about this one fic, it's my personal favorite. Besides being accurate characterization, I'm an absolute sucker for Qi Rong goofy times. Qi Rong says fuck abusive parents in this fic and honestly he's just so iconic. This one doesn't delve that deep into Qi Rong's backstory or anything, but goddamn we really need funny Qi Rong-centric fics.
4. To Change is in a Human's Nature, But a God's? by Vexxed_Imp
Another rare long Qi Rong-centric fics. Sorry for the amount of Qiurong here, but I think all my Qi Rong fans would know how hard it is to find Qi Rong fics outside of a ship context. In this one, Qi Rong ascends to godhood and deals with god stuff. Honestly it's very entertaining and a great long read with a great premise. I wish there were more "Qi Rong becomes a calamity/god fics" but just like his fans, there are very few. Honestly, even if you're not a Qi Rong fan, this fic's great for building up Heavenly Official characters and the general vibes of heaven.
5. Pretext by foxflowering
First, only, and last NSFW entry on this post. This fic's short, but it really made me fall in love with stinky lesbian Qi Rong. I was gonna keep this list SFW only, but this fic deserved a spot on the masterpost based on its sheer chaotic energy. Reading this fic made me feel like Qi Rong was a girl I passed by in high school or something. She's written extremely realistically to the point it was uncanny. If you love urself some stinky fem Qi Rong, this is probably the fic for you.
Alright, that's it for now. I'd include more, but good Qi Rong-centric fics are extremely hard to find, especially if it does not include a ship. Feel free to reblog with more fics, I just wanted to list these five for any Qi Rong enjoyer who's having a hard time telling which fanfic is actually Qi Rong-centric and which fic is a Hualian fic with Qi Rong cussing in the background. Have fun!

finished tgcf vol 8 last night (the main story, I'm still making my way through the extras), and I just... I cried so much T_T
even though I already knew most of what would happen. somehow that actually made it worse, I was full on sobbing at times (well I had also picked music to listen to so that also contributed but still)
I don't have the words to express what tgcf means to me, right now this is my absolute favorite book series I've ever read. and also... hualian... I cannot deal, I cannot deal with them, I've rarely ever had a love story affect me this profoundly
I also cannot overstate what an absolute pillar of support this story was for me this year. I picked up Volume 1 almost exactly one year ago, and from that moment on tgcf was like the lifeboat that got me through a really tough year where I was also sick more often than not (I'm disabled with chronic fatigue)
tgcf vol 1 was also the first book I'd read after ten years where due to various mental illness issues I couldn't read books at all, a crass contrast to how I used to devour them from the moment I was able to read. but then whatever was blocking me, it feels like tgcf just... allowed it to heal. that alone I consider an immense gift that I'm incredibly grateful for, as I had honestly feared I'd never be able to read books again
I'll miss this story so so much, but I'm also just so unspeakably grateful for its existence
also I'm very grateful for all the positive feedback and interaction my little analysis posts have received, I honestly didn't expect that at all when I started posting. I just had so many thoughts while reading and desperately needed to express them, but I thought surely no one else would be all that interested in them. so the attention is completely unexpected but very appreciated, thank you :')
speaking of I'll start posting my vol 8 observations at some point but I'm actually still not done with my vol 6 and 7 thoughts, because the more I read the more things started occurring to me. I also have some fanfic planned because I'm not ready to let this story go, not for a long time and probably not ever 🦋

Not a request,
I just wanted to say it's brave to post Jun Wu/Male reader and I wish there was more
I personally like his backstory and he makes a great villain.
As naive and new to the fandom I didn't know how much hate you can get posting that. Quickly learned when I had people messaging me on tiktok hate 😭
( was a while ago but I do remember it , scary 💩 bro 😭 )
Anyway, have a nice day!
Haha thank you. I think it's so silly to hate someone for such a thing. They're fictional characters and obviously most ppl don't like junwu for what he did to Xie Lian but that doesn't mean people can't like him 😁 just how I like Dottore but a lot of people hate him. I love getting rare requests that change up my day as well. Most of my requests are tgcf, HuaLian x reader. So getting new requests is very fun!

Heyy sorry if this is a dumb question but I've been trying to get into tgcf for ages but I've always been so uncomfortable with the fact that xl met hc when he was a little boy...I know hc is a completely different person by the time they get together but it's still so weird to me. Isn't that grooming? Idk much about the story but I know mxtx has a history of writing gross stuff
I'd just like to know what you think since it's rare to find mxtx critical people and I never see anyone talking about this /gen
it's not a dumb question! it's completely normal to side-eye the circumstances of their first meeting with mxtx's track record. to get this out of the way right off the bat: it's most definitely not grooming, which is a tool deliberately employed to earn a child's trust with the intent to exploit them. their interactions early on are mainly one-sided and sporadic; although young hua cheng becomes his devotee after xie lian saves him, xie lian barely knows who he is, and there's nothing whatsoever on his side that suggests intent to form a connection. at best he thinks young hua cheng is good with a sword and should be appointed, but then that's really about xie lian getting on board with child soldiers, which. is a whole other topic. worth mentioning that it's not until they've passed 800 years apart that they begin to form a bond.
but that's taking the story at face value without considering the author's intent - and when we revisit the infamous land of the tender scene, the wink wink nudge author notes at the end of it, no one can say you're wrong to be uncomfortable. as with all media you have to start asking yourself: why did the author frame things this way? how should I contextualize their meeting at 10 and 17 years old respectively, knowing mxtx intended to write them as a couple from the start? how should I feel about a scene where the teenage future love interest witnesses the protagonist under the effect of a sex pollen in close proximity but technically nothing actually happens between them, and what was the author's purpose behind that?
this is part of what makes this hard to discuss: the characters themselves don't quite cross boundaries, but the characters aren't their own people, and the author behind them has a history of writing rape porn between teens and whatever the hell goes on in scum villain. that makes some of the choices she took with the story, at absolute best, questionable. and you should question them! I know my mutuals and I do, to the anger of some mxtx fans who stumble upon our posts lol
everyone has different tolerance thresholds, and personally tgcf is within mine, as is mdzs, while I refuse to touch scum villain with a ten feet pole. I do think hualian's relationship is written well enough that it doesn't bother me, but it might bother you, and that's completely understandable. something doesn't have to be morally reprehensible to turn you off of it
