I saw someone the other day--as they were claiming my concern for crochet in fast fashion was too niche to be geniune concern about fast fashion in general (yes, really)--who said she boycotts Starbucks because of their union busting.

And, like, seeing that and the claim against me side by side was sort of a revelation. Like, you think I'm not sincere in my concerns over fast fashion because I'm not yelling about all fast fashion all the time and am, instead, speaking as an expert in the one place in fast fashion (crochet) that I know I can fully understand and explain.

And you're doing an ongoing boycott even though the union has not asked for one. The Starbucks union (twitter here) has called for boycotts at certain times. Like red cup day. They are using boycotts strategically to send a message to management. They are NOT asking for a perpetual boycott, and carrying a perpetual boycott and bringing it up in a completely different conversation just tastes like you want to be patted on the back for being the best at solidarity.

But you're not. You are actively going against what the union wants.

Anyway, there's something here about moral purity and thinking you have to "win" at being the most politically active and engaged that is fucking exhausting and stupid and tied directly into the idea that the left has a massive issue with thinking incremental change is somehow bad and wrong.

Like, I don't know. I have finite energy, and my art form is constantly devalued and treated like a joke by people who don't even know how to do it, so maybe that's why I've got a stick up my ass on it being further devalued by companies who are lying about how its made to make whatever profit you get from a 14 dollar vest that took someone several hours on a knitting machine, and maybe you have the energy to get mad at all fast fashion all the time, but we're both on the side of skilled workers deserve to get paid, except you refuse to buy coffee from some of them for the morality points you gave yourself.
