As gen-AI becomes more normalized (Chappell Roan encouraging it, grifters on the rise, young artists using it), I wanna express how I will never turn to it because it fundamentally bores me to my core. There is no reason for me to want to use gen-AI because I will never want to give up my autonomy in creating art. I never want to become reliant on an inhuman object for expression, least of all if that object is created and controlled by tech companies. I draw not because I want a drawing but because I love the process of drawing. So even in a future where everyone’s accepted it, I’m never gonna sway on this.

I see a lot of posts on here talking about the Solas/Elgar'nan segment in Blood of Arlathan and how it's one of the best scenes in the game, and they'd be right, but I don't see enough people talking about how comically the whole thing is undercut by quite possibly the most poorly-conceived, terribly-implemented looney-tunes-ass sequence in gaming history that surrounds it.

Like you show up with your friends to this Venatori party, and you're like great, we're sneaking in! Time for disguises. How convenient that these Venatori guys all wear hoods, right? Should be a piece of cake if we're all, you know, wearing hoods that would helpfully hide our identities. But no. We all go waltzing in with our whole-ass faces exposed, you know, the group of guys that have been murdering Venatori left and right and who Elgar'nan and Ghilan'nain have definitely all seen in person before. Oh, and don't worry about walking into this notoriously racist elf-sacrificing cult if you happen to be an elf! You're only here in disguise so that you can rescue a GROUP OF ELVES THEY'RE GOING TO SACRIFICE but it's ok because you're dressed as a mercenary and not a dalish so it's all good don't worry about it :) :)

Then you get into this fucking party and oh my fucking god it's like they decided to take all of the most comically over-the-top stereotypes of villainy and put them on display. Because why not! The Venatori are all sickos anyway so of course they'd be out here doing sicko things! There's some guys pulling a halla apart with blood magic! There's other guys using slaves as benches! They're all laughing and joking about how EVIL they are, hahaha, how cool is that? The fucking guy from D'Meta's Crossing is here if you don't let him die, because he's a fucked up evil sicko too! You're supposed to be shocked at this hideous display; recoil in horror, even!

And who do you bring with you to help get through this crowd of absolute lunatics? NEVE FUCKING GALLUS. You know, the person so well-known in Minrathous that a Dalish elf living in Arlathan KNEW HER BY REPUTATION. Yup, Neve Gallus with her INTENSELY RECOGNIZABLE PROSTHETIC just waltzes up to some guy and he just lets her in. Because being EVIL also makes you incapable of coherent thought, apparently.

And then. AND THEN. You walk across the bridge where Elgar'nan makes his thought-sounds at you, and YOUR ENTIRE FUCKING PARTY is already there, just hanging out nbd. Also not wearing hoods or any kind of disguises that couldn't instantly be seen through by a five-year-old with amnesia but ok, cool. Why did we bother walking through all those sickos then when we could've just taken the secret back entrance like the rest of them, idk.

But just when you think you've reached peak stupidity, it keeps going. You're now standing there, at the front of a crowd of about twelve people, approximately five feet away from Elgar'nan himself, inexplicably blending in, when the big guy puts the mind control whammy on everyone. Oh no, you think. We've been found out! Here's the part in the plan where things begin to go wrong! NO. Your mage friends SECRETLY PERFORM MAGICAL GESTURES to block the mind control, and then you LITERALLY FUCKING SIDLE OFF STAGE LEFT without ANYONE NOTICING. I should reiterate that at this point, you are still about FIVE FEET AWAY FROM ELGAR'NAN and his fucking ARCHDEMON.

And to conclude this absolute comedy of idiocy, as soon as you enter back into combat mode, you immediately ditch all of your disguises. And of course then, ONLY THEN, Elgar'nan notices you've been there. Cut to the end of the actual good sequence, this dramatic conversation performed by excellent voice actors and written miles better than most other things in this game, and you reach your final prize: about six guys trapped in a little cube. Cool, you tell yourself. This was definitely worth it. You take your fade-to-black teleporter back to the Lighthouse and they're never heard from again.

This was the quest that broke me. This was the moment that all hope for Veilguard finally snapped. I consider myself to be a very resilient person in the face of camp and goofy writing, but this was too much disbelief for my brain to suspend. The mental gymnastics necessary to make this whole sequence make any kind of sense were simply beyond me. Even Solas's dulcet tones could not salvage it for me after that.

Riddle me this.. how the hell can you call yourself a proclaimed “fan” of this musical, its actors, and what it stands for when you go to Melodys instagram, print a photo of her in a bathing suit, expect her to sign it and give it back to you.? How can you call yourself a “fan” when you kiss Jason on the cheek when you asked for a photo? How can you call yourself a “fan” when you follow actors to their cars, follow them home and give them panic attacks? How can y’all call yourselves “fans” when you constantly sexualize, belittle, demean, and dehumanize these young actors? I’ll tell you. You can’t.

You are not a fan at this point. You are creepy, you are an asshole, and SOME OF YOU are borderline stalkers and psychopaths. I say this time and time again and it’s genuinely so exhausting and so so messed up that I even have to say it.

THE ACTORS ARE PEOPLE TOO.

They are NOT your playthings. They are NOT yours to do whatever you want with. They are young actors who are trying to do a job. That is all they are in the end. I’m so so deeply disappointed to hear all this horrid, disgusting behavior from some of y’all.

I do not care if some of you think I’m being dramatic and over the top. I don’t care. What I DO care about is these people, these human beings rights, boundaries, and their decency being violated and disrespected on a daily basis. This is not about theatre anymore. This is about human decency, rights, and boundaries.

I said this before and I will say it again, I am aware that this issue is not coming from a lot of you, this message isn’t for you. This message is for the people who read all of this, who hear all this disturbing news from the actors and think that it is okay. This is for the people who currently DO these things and think it’s okay and even “cool”.

i've been completely and utterly betrayed and dehumanized by someone i considered a friend and now i'm going to be sick...

so i had this "friend," we'll call them "D."

"D" never really struck me as hostile or predatory. however, they did commission me a lot to draw genderbent verisons of my own fursona.

and at the time i didn't say anything because he wasn't requesting anything pornographic, or like a "transformation" sequence or anything.

but i still felt... kinda weird? like... this felt like something vaguely fetishy, but i didn't want to assume. after all, i know what it's like to have a weird special interest that could be misinterpreted as a fetish/kink (non-erotic hypnosis).

but i obliged with their requests. i just assumed i'd been overthinking things.

today i got a message from a long-time friend of mine, who we'll call "A."

"A" told me that "D" had been acting really weird towards them and their partner (i'll call them "J")

"A" sent me this screenshot of a message "D" had sent to "J"

my response:

now i'm thoroughly pissed at this point and decided to confront "D" about this myself.

"D" started trying to gaslight me and claim that the screenshot was "faked." like... their condescending and defensive tone says it all.

naturally, i blocked him. i was so done.

i went back to "A" and told them about "D's" response.

God just...

i feel so dehumanized. like who the fuck can i even trust anymore?

i'm so sick...

needless to say i'm gonna be a lot more discerning when vetting commission requests from now on. if i get the feeling this might be fuelling a fetish for the requester, i reserve the right to decline... ESPECIALLY if it involves my sona or one of my OCs.

There are some pairings (many of them very popular) that absolutely want to make me claw my fucking eyes out. And you know what I do about that? I filter out said ships on AO3. I do not go into the tags. I don't leave inane "Aren't they brothers?1!?" comments on ship content.

There will always be things in fandom that go against your personal beliefs or preferences. But, to me, a lot of times, the whole "But they are brothers" protests read more like "But they are both guys". It's just a different flavor of homophobia/anti-slash rhetoric.

So fine, be bigoted and judgmental - but please do it in the privacy of your head or in personal conversations with friends who agree with you. Don't complain to shippers and content creators. And don't make incorrect claims about any blood relations just because you watched a show with your eyes closed and the tv on mute.

Maybe im too woke but i im lowkey tired of seeing grantaire, the guy described as extraordinarily "ugly", offten drawn as a poc/with darker skin , in contrast to Enjolras, the guy described as beautiful, who drawn as a white person/with pale skin. It always feel so icky to me as a black person lol, especially with how commen it is.

i think there is always going to be some weird problems when people try to draw a "ugly" and "pretty" character, because beauty standards are so very rooted in racism and colorism, and are also different everywhere, but to have a character who is canonically ugly and white be drawn so offten as a person of color with brown/dark skin, somthing that has historically been deamed as ugly, is very bizarre.

I dont think people do it intentionally, and im not going force you to change the way you draw characaters, draw Grantaire as a poc if and Enjolras as white you want! Who am i to stop you! But like, maybe think about the iffy implications when doing that while drawing him next to a pale ass enjolras LOL

finnish language self-study rant

I have been struggling to find motivation to learn finnish after more than a year and a half of slow self-study.

My friends only speak in puhekieli with gamer slang thrown into it. Even if I try to reply to some of the messages, I feel like a dumbass speaking in kirjakieli. And I don't know how to ask for help with learning.

I've been to Finland a few times already, and I can understand ads and info voice recordings on the plane. I got far when it comes to listening.

But God, speaking or writing is hell. And I feel like Im lacking so much vocabulary to hold a conversation even though I felt like I've remembered enough words to try holding one.

I ordered a workbook that could help me get into writing more and which would be good for picking up more vocabulary. The Czech learning book I've been using burned the passion in me out as the writing exercises were mostly "take a word and put it into different cases". (And the illative case just doesn't make sense to me no matter how many times I read through it)

I'll maybe try to message one of my friends soon and try to ask him whether he'd be open to try conversing with me every once in a while. But first, I need to complete my semestral animation and just generally not get kicked out of uni.

One thing about the whole "book lore says women can't be witchers" is that...it doesn't even really say that. All the lore ever said on this matter was that no girl has ever survived the Trial of the Grasses. That's it. It doesn't say what the sample size was, nor does it say if they ever tried it on adult women. For all we know, they conducted it on a few dozen girls, none of them survived, and then immediately gave up.

There's also the possibility that simply more research was done for male physiology, and females might've required a different concoction of mutations to survive that they never got. Considering how under-researched womens' health tends to be irl, is it so hard to believe that the mages who first created the witcher mutations could've failed to take into account the nuances of female physiology?

In the medieval world, males are naturally going to be more expendable by virtue of being less essential in reproduction roles, so of course there's going to be more performed on boys. However, 'no girls have survived' =/= 'it is impossible for girls to survive'. Especially when the girl in question is canonically one of the most powerful women in-universe. We have no idea how Ciri's bloodline could interact with the mutations.

Nevermind the fact that there has already been a woman who was subjected to witcher mutations and survived. In the Witcher game, Rayla was turned into a mutant by the Salamandra, who had stolen the secrets of the mutagenic process from Kaer Morhen. The only difference between her and an actual witcher was the training.

The Trial isn't some immutable element, they're a process of alchemic components/ingredients, and like all things under alchemy, formulas can change and improve.
