Feeling a little angsty and felt oddly proud of this. Oh well, it's 12 am. May as well post before I forget it.

I don't get why the phrase 'they locked lips' is so enchanting. What is so enticing about being locked up? You are in shackles. You are binded, you are blinded by this love. Love strong enough you'll throw away the key, and accept misery and slavery for as long as the world spins. They say you are their sun to their Earth, for surely all of your worth comes from intimacy, from giving birth. For if you are different, you ignite their interest, they can say their not ignorant no more but we all know the truth. You are something to be owned, to be shown to others when they express their doubts, question their character. You are their clout. The proof they are great, they are wonderful, for they would have to be for someone as pretty as you to come along. You are a trophy. You are an object. You are not a person, you are not YOUR person. You are theirs. But they are not yours. Love does not free you. It ties you down, forces you to conform to social norm. Those whispered nothings are lies, those kisses are pain, those wandering hands nothing more than your chains. You are not you. You have let yourself be molded into a different person, someone who knew too much who now knows too little.  Someone who spoke too much who now speaks too little. Someone who no longer is filled to the brim with curiosity, who trimmed their vines, cut off dead flower heads to appear pretty. Who was already pretty. Who is pretty. They say it's such a pity, you lost your spark. Your personality. Replaced it with picnics in the park, dances in the dark, skin covered in marks. Love transformed you like a caterpillar to a butterfly, like someone waking up from a dream. You made it your dream. You were drawn to it like a moth to a flame, unknowing of the pain that lied ahead. You are broken. You are used. You are tired. Maybe love wasn't such a good idea after all. But you'll try again. Because maybe all along, you never wanted freedom. Never wanted to be lost. You just wanted to be trapped. To be found.

Welcome to my fic superlatives, where I hand out absolutely unasked-for awards to some of my favorite characters and stories from fics that I read this year. I was going to wait until the end of the year to do these, as I still have plenty of time to read, but honestly, if I don't do them now I'm going to forget that I planned to do them at all!

While all of the chapters for Of Ruin are not yet posted, I’ve had the pleasure of being able to beta read this chapter ahead of the general public and it is absolutely the fic of the year for me. It is a robust story full of romance, action, intrigue, beautiful storytelling, and world-building, and it touches every single one of these categories above. It is a knockout.

my fave form of what's basically friends to lovers is when two people meet and have all their own baggage and the connection they form together and love they have for each other forces them to unpack all that baggage if they want to make things work. the kind of relationship where you're forced to look in the mirror and stop avoiding ur own problems because that person forces u to confront all of them (and u force them to confront theirs, too) because the relationship will Not work if you keep up all these walls either from your person of interest or even from urself!!! and there's too much of something there to give up and move on because it's difficult

the kind of thing where there's romance but the real plot of it all is self transformation through loving another. like the focus is on two individuals w/ their own lives who come together and have romantic feelings for each other vs the romance itself being the plot.

and maybe in the end they don't even stay together! maybe it doesn't work out! but there's drastic change and an undeniable impact they both made in each other's lives that will live on. is changing for the better not love in its rawest form?
