Harira (Moroccan Soup)

A staple during the month of Ramadan, Harira is a delicious soup. Ingredients like meat, chickpeas, lentils and vermicelli, make it really wholesome and filling. I tried Harira for the first time at my moroccan friend’s home. She told me that they have it almost everyday during Ramadan. They open their fast with this soup, which is also accompanied by something sweet like dates or figs. Having…

Hi dear notetaker. I need a suggestion for my English class. You know, Ramadan is coming soon and I wanna do an activity with my kids. They're third graders and very enthusiastic about ramadan. But I don't know where to start. Do you have any ideas or suggestions for it? 🌸
Yes!! Are your kids primarily muslim? In any case, here are some that we've tried before / wanted to try - the kids I work with mostly are 6th grade so some of these may be geared toward older kids. Feel free to take any of these ideas and adjust them.
Ramadan Activities for kids (+ adults tbh)
1. Ramadan bingo - each box filled with a good deed and they put a sticker when they complete it, and you can give multiple levels of prizes depending on if they got a bingo / how many bingo lines they can make, or if they complete everything on the bingo board - we gave fidget toys from amazon as prizes. (Based on the hadith that the best deeds are those that are small but consistent)
2. Sadaqa Jar - everyone gets a little jar which they decorate with stickers / washi tape / markers provided and they use it to store their change or a dollar each day and then you can collect it every friday or right before Ramadan ends to donate to a cause
3. Good Deed Jar - fill a jar with 30 slips of paper, each with a good deed. Every day they pull out a slip of paper and do the good deed.
4. Everyone writes one major thing they are going to pray for on a slip of paper, the papers get shuffled and distributed and everyone has another person's dua that they will ask for in addition to their own. (This activity fits well while teaching kids about the hadith that if you pray for something for someone, the angels pray for that same thing for you + gets them in the habit of praying for others)
5. Make a paper Fanoos (Lantern) + chain links - a childhood favorite that I did myself as a kid - its fun to make and doubles as decorations that you can hang in your classroom / masjid for Ramadan. There are countless tutorials online and you just need paper, scissors, and a stapler (or glue)
6. 'Stained glass' effect suncatchers using cellophane wrappers / tissue paper (link) that they can hang on their windows - there's a lot of ramadan lantern tutorials if you search, here's a more advanced one
7. Making and decorating bookmarks to be used while reading qur'an (Since Ramadan is the month of the Qur'an)
8. Making moon-sighting binoculars (link) - connecting to the lunar calendar
9/10. There are also really great Ramadan related picture-books that are out -I've seen some in my library and they can be read aloud for story time. I'd also recommend Adam's World (it's a puppet show for kids about different islamic concepts and I like it because it's not the overstimulating super colorful filled with music type show.) The Ramadan episode is about adam, a kid who is fasting for the first time and trying to get thru the day learning that it's not just about avoiding food, but it's also about doing good deeds (not to be biased but it's what I watched growing up in the early 200s lol so I show it to my students too sometimes)

Eid Mubarak 🌼
Hello all ! I hope all my Muslim brothers and sisters are having a wonderful Eid ! Today (since I couldn't make a drawing in time </3) I shall bring you the android trio during Eid !
Of course, being biased, I got to talk about my husband first :3
Android 17
He's a Turkish Muslim !
He loves doing my henna <3 at first, he kinda sucked at it, but he tried, and that was what mattered,, he looked so determined to make it look good, too .. ilhsm
He and his sister loves eidi and they try to beg Android 16 for some
He always brings baklava or any type of kebab to feasts ^_^
Lapis in a black jubba and Raina in a white sari have me squealing
He only takes like 30 minutes getting ready for prayer (but he always looks good nonetheless)
He always says he wants to do so much after prayer, but he takes that post Eid prayer nap and he is knocked out (16, 18, and I don't even bother trying to wake him up, he gets cranky)
Android 18
Also a Turkish Muslim ! Her and 17 have been before Gero turned them to androids
Like I said, she loves eidi; it means more shopping and clothes for her (Krillin is happy to hold all her bags)
When we met, she told me she loved Desi foods, especially Tandoori chicken
She can actually cook a bunch of things from Middle East cuisine, so everyone loves her at Eid feasts
She takes all morning getting ready for Eid prayer
She looks so stunning in her designer abaya btw
Android 16
I actually don't hc him as Muslim, but he loves spending Eid with his siblings (the twins see him as a big brother ToT)
He eventually gives in and gives the twins eidi
He doesn't mind, though, he loves his siblings
Also, he's so in it to experience the cultures and learn more about the festival ! (Gevo is so sweet oml)
I can so see him rocking a jubba or kurta too, tbh
He prolly brings a delicious salad to dinner HEHAJHD (I actually hc him as vegan so !)
Also, he loves coming over to see our (Lapis and mine) pets
Bonus !! Raina
Other than clinging to Lapis all day ? I love helping Lazuli get ready !!
We like matching at times !! Whether it's our make up, dresses, hair accessories, we have at least something matching that the guys have to guess
Also, if 17 ruins my henna, 18 always saves it
17 and I have to be separated when it's time to pray, but we're back together and stuck like glue right after
Getting eid gifts for the trio >>> (I luv spoiling them)
Lapis and I have many Eid dates (usually out eating frozen yogurt, going to a fair or arcade, maybe even an aquarium)
I LOVE TAKING POST EID PRAYER NAPS WITH LAPIS <33333

Since Ramadan is starting tonight (in the US, possibly tomorrow night in other places)…reminder for everyone that putting “NSFR” (Not Safe for Ramadan) is patronizing. We Muslims can monitor our own experiences, and we don’t need things marked for us, especially by non-Muslims

//I think part of why I am having difficulty with threads lately is that I am now at a number where I am completely overwhelmed, even with RPthreadtracker (which is a GODSEND, btw).
That isn’t to say you shouldn’t have a starter with me (especially if we haven’t RPed yet!). In fact, feel free to throw them my way, I’ll very likely love it! The problem is that I am very ADHD and I’m on a bajillion medications lmao, sometimes I legitimately need to step back and take life one step of a time.
So forgive me if you sent me a starter and I haven’t answered it yet. Or if tracked your thread and I haven’t answered in a long time. I’ll get to it eventually. Just give me time. I don’t want to burn myself out, I’m still kicking my ass for vanishing for almost an entire year for that burnout in particular.

I have unfortunate news. I regret informing you that this Ramadan will not see the promised Telenovela "A Parisian Tale". There is nothing to blame but my complete mismanagement of time and the audacity of the people who pay me to do work asking me to do work.

Taameya (Egyptian Falafel)
Taameya is a popular Egyptian street food and a variation of the Middle Eastern dish falafel. It is made from a mixture of fava beans, herbs such as parsley and cilantro, and spices, including cumin and coriander. The mixture is shaped into small patties and deep-fried until crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Taameya is typically served with tahini sauce, tomato, lettuce, and pickles,…
