How To Make Crispy Baked Mixed Veg Pakora?
These non-fried pakoras are a dream come true. Using only two tablespoons of olive oil, these come out super crispy and taste amazing.
These non-fried pakoras are a dream come true. Using only two tablespoons of olive oil, these come out super crispy and taste amazing. I still remember the evening when I was desperately searching on the internet for a healthier version of pakoras. It was more than 10 years ago. My husband was recently diagnosed with fatty liver and I did not want to deep fry my pakoras. I was unable to find a…

hii, i've an idea. can you write something about the 141 team trying to fast for one day bc reader is also fasting and they're curious abt how it feels etc. thank you in advance :)
Tumblr media
“I was thinking maybe we all try,” Soap said.
“Try what?” Ghost asked.
“Fasting,” Soap answered.
“Never once I thought such an idea would come out of you, Soap,” you chuckled.
“It’s not a bad idea either,” Ghost commented.
“I’m an amazing friend, how could you say that?” Soap protested. “Are we doing this or not?”
“Fuck yeah, I’m in,” Gaz nodded.
“When are we gonna do it?” Soap asked.
“Tomorrow sounds good,” Ghost said.
“Excuse me, tomorrow is cleaning day, my guys,” you pointed out.
“So, what? If you can do it, then, I can do it,” Ghost stated.
“Yeah, why not?” Soap supported. “You’re doing fine, we’ll do better than fine.”
“I already said I’m in,” Gaz shrugged.
“Fine,” you nodded. “I’ll wake you up for suhoor and you’ll eat and drink before dawn. After that you practise chastity, you can’t eat, drink, or smoke until dusk.”
There was a pause where everyone was looking at Ghost.
“I can survive without smoking,” Ghost said. “Been trying to quit anyway.”
“You said that like twelve times already in the span of one year,” you said.
“Still trying,” Ghost said.
Soon the time came. It was not that hard getting them out of the bed. However, getting them to wake up took a little bit more time and a lot of food.
The mess was not as full as how it would have been for breakfast, but still more people than it would have been any other month. Mostly, the people here were the ones who participated in Ramadan with their friends who were challenged to fast or simply curious to know what it felt like, maybe as a sign of respect to their friend.
It all went quite well, but after all it was only the beginning of the day.
Dawn came a few minutes after everyone was done eating and drinking. Everyone was oddly in a good mood. Maybe you were in a better mood than most of them because yesterday you did this all by yourself.
Then, fast forward to about hours later, it was about midday, and you were mopping the barrack floor with Ghost’ help. Gaz was asleep in the most uncomfortable position. Soap was nowhere to be seen, but Price did tell him to wash one of the cars.
“Hey, LT,” you called.
“Shut up,” Ghost said, more harshly than he intended.
“Okay,” you said as you turned around, hiding a smile—knowing that Ghost would be snapping at everyone soon if you kept pushing to talk to him.
Sometime later, you walked outside and found König holding up a hose downwards to Soap who was sitting underneath it, face up, eyes closed.
“Is he okay?” you mouthed at König.
König gave you a light shrug for an answer.
“Soap, are you okay?” you asked.
Soap opened his eyes and saw you.
“I’m,” Soap said, but he got water poured into his mouth and he moved his head off the water to talk to you, “I’m fucking thirsty.”
“Dude, you don’t have to force yourself. That’s literally part of the religion. I mean, that’s referring to sick people, pregnant and breastfeeding people, and elderly, but, really, you don’t have to force yourself,” you said.
“No,” Soap whined.
“Well, a lot of kids fast only up to midday,” you brought up.
“Why, because I’m a big baby?” Soap questioned.
You looked at König who slightly tilted his head in amusement.
“I’m just gonna leave you to it,” you decided.
About three hours before dusk, everyone was miserable. However, at least the cleaning was done.
Everyone sort of had their own way of killing time. They had way less energy than usual, but still kept themselves busy.
Around the last hour of fasting, everyone was a little more spiritful again. They were excited about iftar and a lot of the conversation you were having was food related.
The four of you ordered a lot of food and plated everything in the common area of the barrack. There were warm drinks, cold drinks, savoury snacks, sweet snacks, portions of meals, but seemed to be lacking some water that no one realised would be necessary.
Hours came down to minutes before dusk. Everyone was sitting around the small coffee table where you put the food on. You put your phone on the table as well, waiting for it to announce the time to break your fast.
Your phone soon blared out as a sign that it was time to break your fast. Right away, the four men around you went to take their drinks and food and chugged everything in. However, they took a pause when they noticed that you only had one cup of warm beverage in your hands and you silently prayed before taking a sip. They slowed down then.
Regardless, after drinking a little bit of liquid and eating barely a few finger foods, everyone just sort of sat there and looked at each other.
“We’re never gonna be able to finish all these, are we?” Ghost questioned.
“Not even half,” you chuckled.
“This morning, I pissed seven times in the span of an hour because I drank three jugs of water,” Soap said, “and I’m still fuckin’ thirsty at noon.”

April 8, 2023 - Saturday | Ramadan Challenge 🌙 17/30
If you see someone snooping outside your house taking pictures it’s prob me and it’s not my fault ok you’re the one with the pink blossoming tree on display 😤 In other news I spent the day cutting lots of vegetables, it’s my (1) kitchen skill.
What does your ideal Ramadan day look like? What about your Ramadan routine this year?
Waking up and eating suhoor and having some time to pray like 2 rakah’s of tahajjud, reading qur’an after fajr and finishing a good amt of the juz, sleeping in after that. All the school/work stuff is done by 2-3 pm, the rest of the time till iftar I can read books, do dhikr, read qur’an. Everyone eats iftar at home so we all prepare it together. After Iftar we rest a little, drink some tea / have some smol snacks and then go pray isha + taraweeh at the masjid within walking distance so we walk back feeling happy and fulfilled🥺

my job is really weird in the sense that i run a food pantry on a college campus and the students can work there and take from it too so i made sure to get a bunch of halal snacks so students staying past sunset for class could eat for iftar and when i told the Muslim student association so they could promote it this they were excited but they also were like wait we have a food pantry wtf. and then they were like wait how do you know about iftar. and then i had to explain how one of my best friends is a 36 year old syrian refuge mother of four and how i celebrate certain holidays at her house like eid and stuff bc we're friends and then that led me to explain how i sometimes go to my best friend's house for the jewish holidays and how i also celebrate the wiccan holidays with another friend and that I'm going to an ostara ritual on sunday and my family is still catholic and i went to catholic school and thus have to celebrate those holidays and i do this all while being transgender. anyways my life is a little weird and i forget the point of this post.

27 March 2024, Wednesday
The days are just flying by. I’m grateful that I’m being consistent with my Quran recitation, it feels good to be on track :) (also why the only pic I take everyday is of my mushaf lmao)
Day 17: What is your Ramadan Routine this year?
Between 4 and 5:30am - Suhoor, tahajjud, fajr and morning dikr
8:30am to 2pm - office and dhuha and dhuhr prayer
After office I’ll usually either be accompanying or helping mom with kitchen work or chores until Iftar time, then we will pray magrib and have Iftar :)
After Iftar is isha and taraweeh and Quran recitation time, my most beloved segment of the day hehe
After that I have about an hour of free time before having a snack and heading to bed before midnight.
Pretty laidback routine for which I am very grateful 🫶🏽

The idea of jack coming over for iftar is sooo <3<3
He’s at your door at like 3 am
And baba being like “why is your white boyfriend here with us”
And just a sleepy, floofy haired jack going “I’m also fasting sir! :D”
He’d so bring some food/snacks with him
OR OR OR OR OR
Iftar dates <3<3<3<3
Like he picks you up from your house and y’all have breakfast at a 24 hr diner🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶
Jack is the definition of ":D" I LITERALLY IMAGINED HIS FACE WHEN I READ IT😭
no but omg I imagine him being so shocked at all the food on the table when breaking fast and aurgh imagine him just staying over at your house most of the time during ramadan cause family dinners and breakfast

.
We were in Cairo during Ramadan so a few things were different (our food tour had to take place in the evening instead of during the day for example) but most of it was “business as usual”.
As we were walking back to our hotel I noticed cars stopping on the side of the road in the middle of the bridge. Then it drawn on me what time of the day it was.
It doesn’t matter where you are at… when the sun sets it’s the end of the fast so you stop and you get you first sip of water and a small snack.
Brought back memories of the couple Iftar I got to celebrate in Singapore.

Hii, how are you ❤️ I was thinking about the fanfic you wrote about ghost learning how to tie readers hijab (it's amazing btw ❤️) and I thought omw yk how like muslim families get hectic before Ramadan cuz everyone like keeping the unpaid fasts and preparing the iftaar smaoosas and what not like how do you think ghost would react to that 😭
Hope you're doing well, too! Thank you for the kind words and for reminding me that I also have unpaid fasts lol. Not sure if this is what you had in mind, but there will be more for Ramadan, trust me.

“So, Ramadan is still at least a month away, yeah?” Simon brought up out of nowhere.
You were both in the kitchen. You were not particularly motivated today, but you cooked some food as you were counting the hour down to dusk. Simon was mostly standing around, helping you with your preparation for iftar.
Simon had done his research on the practice of fasting during Ramadan as well as getting educated by you. Apparently, he still had a lot to learn. He knew the basics, he told you he would be learning the specific when the month came by experiencing it first hand. That included the cultural aspect of the experience.
This afternoon, for instance, he insisted on helping you prepare for iftar. He thought you would just be boiling water for tea about fifteen minutes before dusk, but turned out there was so much to do.
Earlier, the two of you had gone out to buy some food for you to break your fast with. Simon was overbuying. He thought, surely you would want to eat a lot after not eating for the whole day, right? He got extra snacks as well, some sweet beverages you like.
“Yeah,” you answered. “We’ll have to go grocery shopping for Ramadan soon before certain things’ prices go up.”
“But, you’re already fasting,” Simon added.
“Well, I’m fasting last year’s fasts,” you said.
Simon looked at you. One of his eyebrows was raised and his head was slightly tipped.
“So, I’m supposed to be fasting for a whole month, right? Maybe twenty eight or twenty nine days a year during the month of Ramadan. I might have not completed the whole month, so I’m doing the fasting I didn’t do last year. Make up for it,” you explained.
Simon hummed in understanding.
“You’ll do it again tomorrow?” Simon asked.
“I plan to, yea,” you nodded.
“I’ll do it with you,” Simon said.
You chuckled.
“You don’t wanna wait until Ramadan?” you asked.
“Call it a test run,” Simon said.
“Really?” you said.
“Yeah, why not?” Simon said.
“Okay,” you said.
“You should’ve woke me up for today,” Simon said.
“Boo, you just arrived last night and you looked very tired,” you sighed. “Besides, the big event is still like… a month away.”
“Don’t get in my way of being a good husband,” Simon said. “I’m already rarely home.”
“Who says you’re not a good husband just because of that?” you replied.
Simon seemed to not be able to hold back a thin smile.
Eventually, you were done preparing the food and drink and you turned to face Simon who was looking at the table before looking at you.
“Are you sure it’s enough food?” Simon asked.
“Trust me, I will drink one thing and I’ll be full,” you chuckled.
“How?” Simon questioned.
“It’s just how things are,” you shrugged.
A pause. Simon looked at his watch.
“It’s still seven minutes away ‘til dusk. What do you usually do?” Simon asked.
“Wait. There’s really nothing else to do,” you answered as you sat down. “You can steal a bite if you want.”
Simon looked at you in disbelief.
“It’s okay,” you insisted. “Sit.”
Simon sat down.
Silence clouded the area for a brief moment.
“So, what do you think?” you asked.
“Doesn’t look so bad so far,” Simon answered.
“Oh, wait until everyone is fasting. I spent a lot of time fasting with a bunch of people who are also fasting. Everyone is much more easily irritated, much lazier,” you chuckled. “Then, they still have to do their day to day work. If you think this experience is going to be serene and peaceful, I’m so sorry.”
“You were pretty serene and peaceful earlier, having no energy whatsoever,” Simon pointed out.
“It will not get more serene and peaceful by the days. When it gets to eid, it will only be trouble,” you smiled.
There was something in the way Simon looked at you. Something he rarely showed. A little bit of excitement.
The second after that, Simon’s watch beeped, your phone allerted you that it was iftar.
“It’s time,” Simon said. “How do you do this?”
You laughed, taking one of the tea filled cups.
“Say a prayer and break your fast,” you answered before you did so.
“Ah,” Simon hummed, watching you do your iftar routine. “You better make me do this with you tomorrow. I could use a bit of practice.”
“You know, it’s gonna be hard, but you’re a tough guy,” you shrugged. “Maybe you don’t need to break your fast in the middle of the day like the kids practicing fasting for when they’re an adult.”
“If you can do it, I can do it,” Simon said. “Because I’m with you.”
“You know, we bought all these sweets and for what?” you sighed.

Ramadan is a time of spiritual reflection, self-discipline, and community. It's also a time to focus on health and well-being, especially when it comes to food. As Muslims around the world observe this holy month, incorporating healthy and delicious foods into their diet can enhance the fasting experience and promote overall wellness.
Suhoor:
Suhoor, the pre-dawn meal, should be a balanced and nourishing meal to provide energy throughout the day. Opt for complex carbohydrates like whole grains, protein-rich foods like eggs or lean meats, and healthy fats like avocado or nuts. A meal of oatmeal topped with fruits and nuts, a whole grain toast with avocado, or a vegetable omelet with whole grain bread are excellent choices.
Iftar:
Breaking the fast with a nutritious meal is key to replenishing energy stores and providing essential nutrients. Start with hydrating foods like water-rich fruits and vegetables. Include a source of lean protein like grilled chicken or fish, along with whole grains like brown rice or quinoa, and a variety of vegetables. For dessert, choose fresh fruits or a small serving of a traditional sweet made with natural ingredients like dates or nuts.
Snacks:
During non-fasting hours, it's important to choose healthy snacks to keep energy levels stable. Fresh fruits, nuts, yogurt, and whole grain crackers with hummus are great options that provide nutrients and keep you satisfied between meals.
Hydration:
Staying hydrated is crucial during Ramadan. Drink plenty of water between iftar and suhoor, and opt for hydrating beverages like coconut water or herbal teas. Avoid sugary drinks and caffeinated beverages, as they can lead to dehydration.
Conclusion:
Ramadan is a time to focus on spiritual growth, self-discipline, and health. By incorporating nutritious and delicious foods into your diet during this holy month, you can nourish your body, maintain energy levels, and promote overall well-being. Embrace the opportunity to savor healthy foods that not only satisfy your palate but also support your health goals.
