1982: Greatest Geek Year Ever! will be released on Blu-ray and DVD on October 22 via MVD's Rewind Collection. Directed by Mark A. Altman, the four-part documentary miniseries premiered on The CW in 2023.

It explores the impact of 1982 cinema like E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, Blade Runner, The Thing, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Poltergeist, Creepshow, Night Shift, The Dark Crystal, 48 Hrs., First Blood, Tron, Conan the Barbarian, Cat People, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, and The Road Warrior.

Interview subjects include Ron Howard, Paul Schrader, John Sayles, Amy Heckerling, Henry Winkler, William Shatner, Sean Young, Joanna Cassidy, Keith David, Cameron Crowe, Michael Deeley, Lisa Henson, Dean Devlin, Bruce Campbell, Dee Wallace, Felicia Day, Roger Corman, Barry Bostwick, Marc Singer, Bryan Fuller, Mick Garris, Leonard Maltin, and more.

@panicdeleter in the replies found the artist, it's someone named Rachid Lotf. He offers a course on how he makes his art (like, he pushes it aggressively, the popup appears every minute you're on his site). It looks like his art is primarily Photoshop: if you look at his Course page it has a GIF of him inserting images of posters into the scenes and a "process" image that seems to be that he does a render and then inserts images into it (another implies the kids may be edited stock photos?). I'm...surprised it's not AI tbh.

interestingly, this guy's website displays a few images of modern bedrooms in this style, and seeing this style with Fortnite and Horizon Zero Dawn posters is. Jarring. That you can easily do this style of art for rooms that aren't even nostalgia, but still present-tense should produce a revelation that the nostalgia here is for *being a child*, not for being a child in a particular "golden" era, but alas.

There are children with rooms like this now, playing Fortnite and Roblox with friends, FNAF and Marvel posters on the wall in a way that's indistinguishable from the idealized 80s this art is depicting. To quote The Twilight Zone, "maybe when you go back, Martin, you'll find that there are merry-go-rounds and band concerts where you are. Maybe you haven't been looking in the right place. You've been looking behind you, Martin. Try looking ahead."

Fascinated with this jabroni's insistence that We Have To Go Back with this art. Remember when we enjoyed non-political art like Metal Gear Solid, Terminator 2, and Jurassic Park, and before the woke crowd banned spaghetti?

Apparently this person is especially mad at "postmodernism". They're mad at postmodernism and nostalgic for /Metal Gear Solid/. Incredible

Actually they posted a bunch of art (which they all stole from someone) of people in improbable 90s bedrooms with every square inch plastered in posters for video games and also trips to Blockbuster. Incredible
