Bashar al-Assad arrived in Moscow, where he and his family have been granted asylum, hours after reports say he stepped down as President of Syria and left the country. The U.S., Israel and Turkey—all three have been trying to overthrow Assad for more than a decade—wasted no time in ramping up their meddling in the country.
On this week’s episode of ‘SANCTIONED w/ Rachel Blevins,’ a weekly deep-dive series for my paid subscribers, we look at where tensions stand in Syria, and what the fall of Assad means for the Syrian people, as the rebranded version of Al-Qaeda is expected to lead some kind of transitional government. Where will this journey take us, and could Syria become the next Libya?

Prof Wolff joins Rachel Blevins to discuss various aspects of U.S. foreign policy and economic challenges. He expresses skepticism about the Biden administration's handling of international conflicts, particularly the focus on foreign funding for conflicts in Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan. He criticizes the administration's economic approach, highlighting its failure to explore alternative measures to address inflation, such as wage-price freezes and rationing. Wolff also touches on the declining influence of the U.S. in the global arena, emphasizing the emergence of China and other BRICS nations as significant competitors. Throughout the interview, Wolff urges for a more realistic assessment of the changing world order and its implications for the U.S. economy.

Day 159: Thursday June 8, 2023 - “This was 23 Months”
Play, travel, and potty training - the benchmarks of William’s last month before turning two.   From here we stop measuring his growth in months.  He’ll just be “two” for the next 12 months and it causes some reflection on how much I’ve enjoyed these little monthly check ins to show the more mundane, day to day inching forward of William’s little life.   Its amazing to look back even on just how much he’s grown and changed in the last six months when he was just starting his climbing phase.
In this past month, William got a new pair of big boy tennis shoes to help him keep up with all that energy and being on the go and we spent much of this 23rd month, out rambling. He spent more than a week in Phoenix with his cousins, and then put his 20th state on the map with Wisconsin before spending Memorial Day under the Arch in St Louis.  He’s now been to five big league Zoos and Baseball Parks (8 MLB games).
He is starting to eat a wider variety of foods, but anything that involves a dip in ranch is the easiest to go down - that is if we can get him to settle down long enough to eat.   This little boy wants to keep going from one thing to the next.  A very busy, and independent bee on our hands.  He sure does love a good playground!  And I think imaginative play will be one of his stronger areas going into his twos.
We’ve been a decision here to not label anything as terrible twos and whats nice is that with that perspective, we’re not seeing anytihng all that terrible yet.  Thats not to say he isnt a DFK (Deeply Feeling Kid), we’re just expecting it and rolling with it when those big Actingham emotions come.  We’re letting him explore and meltdown and supporting him in that knowing that his tides very quickly break in the other direction and that overall he is a very lovable and affectionate sweet boy.  He’s sleeping well on his own now, napping real good, and communicating well and is an energetic bundle of joy and entertainment in our house even with all the UtOH messes that come with naked time and potty training.   We have a vibrant happy and secure two year old in our house and with closing reflection on the 23rd month, I can also share that I am pretty proud of where Ive come as a Dad, and where we are as a family.   We’ve made it through these complex, trying first 23 months with only a few bumps and bruises to show for it.  We’ve built a family system, and our little lion is thriving in it.
Favorite Food: Cup of Ranch Dippa from BWs or especially Mod Pizza.
Favorite Song:  Laurie Berkner Band - Moon Moon Moon
Favorite Book: Goodnight Baseball
Favorite Show: Miss Rachel on Youtube
Favorite Toy(s):  Race Cars - He got plenty of new cars and trucks as potty prizes. Lining them all up like trains.
Favorite Word:  Daddy! or Mommy! at the top of his lungs to get your attention, no matter how close you are.
Favorite Favorite: Riding Choo Choo and Trains -> all things trains
Least Favorite: Being touched when he doesn’t want to be touched (independence starting to shine through - really great when stuck in a middle seat on an airplane together!) “William Do It!”
Song: Leah Blevins - First Time Feeling
Quote: “our jobs don’t stop at protecting our children’s physical safety—we are also their emotional caretakers. This is where two other important job duties come in: validation and empathy. Validation is the process of seeing someone else’s emotional experience as real and true, rather than seeing someone else’s emotional experience as something we want to convince them out of or logic them away from. Validation sounds like this: “You’re upset, that’s real, I see that.” ― Becky Kennedy

TRANSCRIPT
Minute by minute of the transcript from minute 2:08 to 4:14
2:08 the Latin American nation of Colombia this is truly historic on many fronts 2:13 because first of all Colombia had been one of the most loyal allies of both the 2:20 United States and of Israel in Latin America a region where there are many 2:25 left-wing Anti-Imperialist governments that are against us neocolonialism and 2:30 Israeli settler colonialism but another very important reason is that for decades the Colombian military and 2:38 paramilitary groups linked to the Colombian government have worked very closely with the Israeli military Israel 2:46 trained many of the right-wing paramilitary groups and death squads in Colombia that were involved in 2:53 massacring civilians in stealing land from poor farmers and Indigenous Nations 2:59 and afro Colombian communities also Israel trained some of the Colombian paramilitary fighters who were involved 3:05 in drug trafficking working closely with drug cartels so Israel has played a very 3:11 nefarious role in Latin America supporting right-wing extremist groups 3:17 and death squads and paramilitaries that are trying to destabilize left-wing governments in the region like in 3:23 Venezuela in Nicaragua or in Cuba in fact many of those leftist governments 3:29 in Latin America broke off formal diplomatic relations with Israel in protest of Israel's massacres of 3:37 Palestinian civilians but Colombia had always been the loyal us and Israeli 3:43 Ally in the region but that changed in 2022 with the election of Colombia's 3:50 first ever ever left-wing president Gustavo p and pro has really spoken out 3:58 strongly in support of Palestinian rights and he has forcefully condemned 4:04 the Israeli apartheid regime for carrying out genocide in crimes against 4:09 humanity furthermore this is also very significant because until recently 4:14 Colombia was actually known as the Israel of Latin America

Remember the FALSE POSITIVE ("False positives" scandal - Wikipedia) The "false positives" scandal (Spanish: Escándalo de los falsos positivos) was a series of military promoted murders (death squads) in Colombia. Members of the military had poor or mentally impaired civilians lured to remote parts of the country with offers for work, killed them, and presented them to authorities as guerrilleros killed in battle, in an effort to inflate body counts and receive promotions or other benefits. While Colombian investigative agencies find cases as early as 1988 the peak of the phenomenon took place between 2006 and 2009, during the presidency of Álvaro Uribe Vélez.
"The Guardian" shows a 2018 study claiming a total of 10,000 "false positive" victims between 2002 and 2010.

TERRORISM IN OCCUPIED HOLY LAND
January 10, 2018,  The Israeli army killed 15 Palestinian children in the besieged Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank, including Jerusalem, in the year 2017, Defence for Children International- Palestine revealed yesterday. The human rights organisation [sic] said in a report that 12 children were shot dead, four of them during protests and three in ambushes setup by the army, while five children were killed during alleged attempts to carry out stabbing attacks. The report pointed out that a child was killed by artillery shelling in the Gaza Strip, and another by the explosion of a suspicious body while herding sheep near the city of Tubas in the northern West Bank while another died from injuries sustained in 2014. The organisation [sic] stressed that the Israeli army takes advantage of the lack of accountability to kill more children.
https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20180110-rights-group-israel-army-killed-15-palestinian-children-in-2017/ January 11, 2018,A three-year-old Palestinian was shot in the head during an Israeli “military training” session in the northern occupied West Bank city of Tubas. According to a statement by the Palestinian Authority’s Ministry of Health, the child was hit in the head with live bullets. He was taken to Rafidia Surgical hospital in Nablus. She pointed out that the child’s relatives told “medical staff that he was shot during IDF training in the area.” “The health situation of the injured child is stable,” the ministry said. The Israeli military frequently conducts training in Palestinian communities in Tubas, the Jordan Valley of the occupied West Bank, Hebron, and several other areas. Palestinians are often forced to abandon their homes to make way for the training sessions.

Armed drones. Exploding cell phones. Spare tires with remote-control bombs. Assassinating enemy scientists and discovering the secret lovers of Islamic holy men.’ “[Rise and Kill First by Ronan Bergman, the intelligence correspondent for Yediot Aharanot newspaper] alleges that Israel was behind the April 9, 2018,assassinations of around half a dozen Iranian nuclear scientists, killings apparently more preferable to Israel than a direct strike on Iran. The book also appears to claim that Israel used radiation poisoning to kill longtime Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat. According to Bergman, Israeli military censorship prevented him from revealing what, if anything, he knows about the specific incident.…”

Israeli authorities were also charged with war crimes, over the imprisonment of both children and adults from the occupied Palestinian territory inside Israel's pre-1967 lines, a violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention. The Westminster Hall debate on "Military detention of Palestinian children by Israeli authorities" was initiated by Labour MP Sarah Champion, and attracted cross-party participation.

On March 30, Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers shot 773 unarmed Palestinian protesters in Gaza, killing 17 and wounding 1,400. Twenty remain in critical condition. The protesters were marching to demand the internationally mandated right of return of refugees to their cities and villages in what now constitutes Israel. The Israeli leaders who ordered the massacre were in clear violation of international law. They should be prosecuted for war crimes. The use of deadly force against the peaceful protesters was premeditated. The IDF deployed 100 snipers to the border fence between Gaza and Israel, where 30,000 to 40,000 Palestinians had gathered for the Great March of Return.

A video from the first day of the march shows a protester being shot in the back by an Israeli sniper as he walks away from the fence separating Gaza from Israel. In other footage, Palestinians are killed or wounded as they pray, walk empty-handed towards the border fence, or simply hold up a Palestinian flag. All who get within 300 yards are labelled "instigators" by the Israeli army, whose soldiers have orders to shoot them ... The sheer scale of the casualties on the first day of the protest a week ago is striking, with as many as 16 killed and 1,415 injured, of whom 758 were hit by live fire according to Gaza health officials ... So far, Israel has faced little criticism from an international media uninterested in the Gaza story, or else is happy to go along with Israel's interpretation of events.

Yes!’ a man shouts, who adds: ‘Son of a bitch. What a video, here, run and get him out of there. Of course I filmed it.’ Later, someone else is heard saying ‘Wow, someone was hit in the head,’ ‘what a legendary video,’ ‘he flew in the air,’ and ‘get out, you sons of bitches.’…Jamal Zahalka of the Joint List said the video ‘indicates to the rule. Over 900 Wounded, 37 Killed as US Embassy Protests Heat Up in Jerusalem by Jack Davis, The Western Journal
Israel Military Kills More Than 50 Palestinians in Massive Protests ABC News
More than 50 people, including eight children, have been killed by the Israeli military in Palestinian protests that erupted today along the Gaza border as the U.S. opened its new embassy in Jerusalem, Palestinian authorities said. The deaths and injuries to over 2,400 people came mostly from gunfire by Israeli forces as Palestinians amassed at the border in far greater numbers than in other recent demonstrations. The crowds had swelled to tens of thousands by the time a U.S. ceremony to open its new embassy started about 50 miles away in the Arnona neighborhood of Jerusalem. When will the moment come in which the massacre of civilians shocks at least the left-center? If 60 people slain don't do it, perhaps 600? Will 6,000 jolt them? ...   Will Israel find all the excuses and justifications then also? Will the blame be laid on the slain people and their "dispatchers" even then, and not a word of criticism, mea culpa, sorrow, pity or guilt will be heard? ... If 60 stray dogs were shot to death in one day by IDF soldiers, the whole country would raise an outcry ... On the night of the Palestinians' slaughter, Zion rejoiced and was jubilant: We have an embassy and a Eurovision. It's difficult to think of a more atrocious moral eclipse ... http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/49474.htm May 24, 2018, Cameras have helped expose to the world what Israeli soldiers are doing to Palestinians, so of course a new bill in the Israeli parliament seeks to criminalize the filming of soldiers committing human rights abuses: “‘Anyone who filmed, photographed, and/or recorded soldiers in the course of their duties, with the intention of undermining the spirit of IDF soldiers and residents of Israel, shall be liable to five years imprisonment. Anyone intending to harm state security will be sentenced to ten years' imprisonment,’ the bill states. In addition to prohibiting documentation, the proposal prohibits distributing photographic or recording content on social networks or in the established media. MK Ilatov says the bill came as a response to harassment by left-wing operatives of IDF soldiers while dispersing violent demonstrations by Hamas on the Gaza border. Operatives were seen interfering with soldiers who blocked border crossings, accusing the soldiers of war crimes and calling them ‘terrorists.’
The bill's explanatory notes state ‘For many years the State of Israel has witnessed a worrying phenomenon of documentation of IDF soldiers.’”

The Israeli Military confirmed that it killed Hamas Leader Yahya Sinwar in southern Gaza on Thursday, in what reports are describing as an “unplanned operation.” The IDF released a video that appears to show Sinwar’s final moments, in which he threw a stick at the drone filming him, in one final act of defiance.
Max Blumenthal, Editor of The Grayzone, noted that while Netanyahu may be patting himself on the back for killing leaders like Sinwar and Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah in the short-term, Israel is lacking strategy in the long-term, as it continues to carry out massacres in the region and further destabilizes itself as a country in the process.

BRICS ON THE RISE, COUNTRIES DITCHING THE DOLLAR & U.S. EMPIRE DECLINES
POSTED ON JULY 01, 2024
Don't miss Richard Wolff on Rachel Blevins show as they cover the state of the US economy, exploring the rising cost of living and Americans' dwindling optimism about the economic future. Wolff criticizes other economists and mainstream media for being out of touch with the average person's struggles, highlighting the inability of many Americans to afford housing and education costs. They discuss the global economic shift as the BRICS alliance—Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa—surpasses the G7’s economic influence, reshaping world dynamics and lessening US power. With attention on the shift from dollar dependency and potential emergence of a collective global currency, Wolff proposes a future where instead of seeking dominance, leading countries like China might pursue a collective and more equitable global arrangement. Throughout the interview, both Wolff and Blevins emphasize a disconnect between government priorities and the needs of ordinary people, illustrated through domestic and international economic policies.
