if you want people to get into the canon comics and lead everyone away from fanon misinterpretation (which is a losing battle because there will ALWAYS be this) then why not be helpful instead of being a dick about it 🤨
the comics are hard to get into because it's hard to know where to start, and there's so much content that people are able to fill themselves in by reading fanfic or watching something on tiktok or seeing posts about it on here. perhaps instead of telling people they're stupid for not realizing your favorite character is being mishandled by others, you could write up a list of your favorite comics and/or how, if you could read them for the first time again, you would order your favorite comics to get the best reading experience. and also write your own fanfiction and draw your own fanart or make a passionate post, answer questions politely
#this is based on that one tiktok user who is actually doing some good#where they are fighting misinterpretation of batfam characters by making informational slideshows#i forgot their username so if someone knows who i'm talking about would be really cool and awesome if you could remind me :3#i saw their posts and was like “wow someone who can talk about canon and their opinions without just complaining”#proactive and i like it#on the other hand sometimes there is a healthy medium and it won't kill canon lovers to let people have some fun#it's not hard to be nice guys you just don't call people stupid and you ask questions#and i don't mean passive aggressive questions#i mean a genuine conversation without getting butthurt#i'm looking at BOTH sides when i say that#anyways if you want to#use this post to list your favorite comics and/or how you would advise someone to read your favorite character#etc etc#ik there are lists online#but this could also be a place to find it#dc#dc comics#batman#batfam#batman comics#batman and robin#ao3#ao3 fanfic#fandom#dc fandom#comic book#comics order#dc reading list#batman reading list#canon vs fanon

When Danny agreed to ferry some books between Ghostwriter’s library and The Librarian in Gotham, he didn’t expect it to be that big a deal. It’ll be just a quick jaunt back and forth, right?
…He just jinxed it, didn’t he.
Yep.
He was barely out the door of the Moonstone Club when he first noticed his tails, and it didn’t take any super-senses to tell they meant trouble.
Less than five minutes later, his suspicions were proven right when a lunging figure forced him to drop to the pavement. He would have phased through the ground too, had some sort of presumably-magical force not blocked him.
Guess he was doing this the hard way. Ghostwriter was so gonna owe him when he got back.
And also, what the hell was in these books??
#The Librarian is a fallen angel who appears in the “Deadman: Twenty Questions” arc from the “DC Universe Presents” comic#they manage a collection of books located underneath the Moonstone Club that contain the entire life stories of a lot of people#the Moonstone Club is a nightclub in Gotham and a hotspot for supernatural entities#(sidenote: i'd love to see that place more in fics. it's an extremely minor location in canon, but it's a super cool idea IMO)#anyway i figure those books would be very important to some folks and thus worth stealing if possible#so when they find out about a random teen transferring some to another location, they'd assume he’s a weak link and go after him#dp x dc#dpxdc#dc x dp#dcxdp#danny phantom x dc#danny phantom x dc crossover

I am absolutely loving your Danyal Al Ghul au. While I have a soft spot for the whole plotline of Danny becoming his canon personality almost right after breaking away from the LOA all because of Jazz, I'm just as much for your take in which he goes through the same character development as Damian.
Now I'm curious. You already tackled his relationship with Dani, will you eventually take a stab at when he, Sam, and Tucker meet Gregor? Given that it's one of my hated episodes as I couldn't stand Sam's infuriatingly hypocritical attitude to Danny's suspicions of him, I'd kill to see your spin on it.
Aw, thank you! Danyal Al Ghul aus are what got me into DPDC first, so I have a major soft spot for them. That being said, uh, its exactly that soft spot that causes me to have Many Opinions about the trope you just mentioned. Like the trope is all fine and dandy, i don't blindly hate it, my main issue with it is that most aus i've seen treat his backstory as an ex-assassin more like a pretty cosmetic accessory rather than something that actually should have had an impact on him. Especially if he remembers being in the league.
Like i cannot stress enough the fact that being in an ecofascist assassin cult (regardless of his standing in it) should've left him, in some way or another, screwed up morally and psychologically because that's just how development works. Nature vs. Nurture is like a game of tug-o-war that never ends, where they are constantly fighting against each other and one side usually has the upper hand or greater influence. Children model the behaviors of the adults around them (ex: bobo the clown doll experiment), and what impacts them in childhood can stick with them permanently.
Like how my psychology professor put it: a baby's brain is like wet cement; if you slap your hand on it, it leaves an imprint, and the cement dries that way. The same rings true for small children.
I could go on, but I frankly have so many thoughts on that alone that I would end up completely derailing from the second half of your ask, and I don't want to be more critical than I already have. Especially since you just mentioned you have a soft spot for the trope.
[Okay, hold onto your hats because this is long. Naturally lmao.]
Gregor! Man, I'll admit I last watched the show back in middle school on a dodgy illegal website (it had surprisingly good audio and visual graphics, and full episodes. But really annoying porn ads.) but I only made it to like season 1 before my hyperfixation faded and I lost interest. So I never actually saw the Gregor episode.
But... it is relatively easy to find free websites that stream Danny Phantom :), so finding the episode took me like. Thirty seconds. Plus the Tv.Tropes recap page because my damn earbuds just died and im out in public as of rn.
I'm not sure if I'll write something for the gregor episode like I did with Dani, since Dani's a bit of a special case in that she's a clone and tends to be a reoccurring presence in DPDC, and I thought the new dynamic with Danyal would be interesting.
Plus, I'm not a big amethyst ocean shipper for the pure reason of I'm just not all that interested in it; its kinda bland to me. I'll admit I've entertained the thought in this au due to the whole balcony scene i wrote, but I would've entertained the thought anyways if it was Tucker in that position instead. Big multishipper, me.
But, if I had to make it official? Danyal is not interested romantically in Sam when the Gregor episode happens, regardless of his relationship with Valerie. Who, speaking of I'm trying to think about how that would go, and I'm torn between including him almost-dating Valerie or not.
Because on one hand it helps point out Sam's hypocrisy (and i love her but i am always happy to point out her flaws and address them in au) in this episode in terms of Danny spying on them, but on the other hand I'll want to include a lot of set up in order to make Gray Ghost work in this au and wow will that take a while.
Especially with the Flirting with Disaster episode because it happens due to Technus' meddling, and Danny is, well, the son of the Batman? A trained assassin? An ex-assassin nonetheless, but still an assassin? A prodigy child in this au? He might not have needed to use most of his skills in the last few years, but like... there's just a bunch of 'what if' and 'well technically...' and 'would he? he could, but would he?' things that is getting in the way of my thought process and making my head spin.
.
Mmm. Okay. Flirting with Disaster occurs relatively the same as canon with a few exceptions; like Danyal noticing the strange coincidences, and he might take the idea into proper consideration because Sam has a point it is strange, especially out of nowhere.
However,,, he really enjoys Valerie's company, and he does really like her. He's been adjusting to civilian life for the last four years and while he's made a lot of progress, he's still. an ex-assassin child living like a wolf amongst sheep. This is normal, typical teenager stuff, and usually his friends like to encourage him doing normal teenager stuff.
So he's stubbornly holding out on the thought that this is normal, that ghost stuff isn't interfering here. He's a little hurt that his friends are discouraging this, he's not bothered by the fact that Valerie is a ghost hunter and he a ghost -- his mother is an assassin, and his father is Batman, and they still had a relationship. (Granted, he's not gonna tell them that)
If anything, being diametrically opposed to each other but still being in love is part of the family! Granted, usually both parties are aware of said opposition to each other, but he'll make a special exception this time around.
(And man now that i'm thinking about gray ghost, im now thinking about various like. scenes i could write between the two of them. maybe in a reblog.)
Anyways uhhh things relatively go the same as canon. Yeah. I think Sam still has a crush on Danny and still spies out of jealousy with Tucker.
.
Now, the Gregor episode! With that out of the way; the TVTropes recap for this episode isn't the best because it doesn't go into detail about the entire episode like it does with Flirting With Disaster and Shades of Gray.
(which i looked at earlier because I made a section of this post talking briefly about what changes I'd make to the Shades of Gray episode to help set up Gray Ghost, but ended up deleting because it was kinda irrelevant for the matter at hand.)
So I'm taking in bits of the episode clips at a time, I'll try not to get too nitpicky about how each scene goes because then it's gonna take me a longer time to write this.
But! First thing's first; since Danny is not romantically interested in Sam, he is also not jealous of Gregor. He is however, a bit eyebrow-raisey at him in their first introduction, but that's because Gregor is coming off as obnoxious.
Danny thinks he's kinda annoying, and it doesn't take a genius to see that Gregor is trying to impress Sam. But since they've only known him for five minutes he takes the good faith assumption and assumes that Gregor is genuinely trying to show interest in Sam's interests too because he likes her, so he keeps mum. The fake hungarian accent is weird, but it's overall harmless, so he doesn't point it out.
He does do the spying thing when he starts suspecting that Gregor might be working for the GIW. The episode only has this happen twice, but for the au this happens a handful of more times over the course of the week, with Danyal's suspicion steadily rising more and more each time.
Hah, when he brings up wanting to spy on Sam and Gregor because of this reason, Tucker still does his "woah! you wanna spy on Sam?" thing.
Danny immediately turns to him, completely unimpressed, and crosses his arms. "Tucker," he says, deadpan, "you and Sam spied on me and Valerie."
He uses a combination of his ghost powers and his regular stealth ability to spy on them. He's hiding in a tree when they're skipping rocks, close enough that he can use his powers to hear them talk but far enough away that he has a good view of their surroundings.
He's invisible in the cinema, but doesn't accidentally get in front of the projector. He checks the inside of the room for the GIW, and then waits outside the actual room itself, keeping an eye on the area and occasionally flying in to watch the movie out of boredom. It reminds him of being back on a recon mission with the League, but it doesn't end with him orchestrating someone's death.
Then when they're at the mall he stays in human form, blending in with the crowd. He runs into the GIW there, but realizes that they're not there because of Gregor; they're just shopping. They didn't show up at either of the last two locations, and he follows them to make sure they're not also trying to blend in. But they're literally just there for shopping.
Danny is rather pleased with this turnout; so far Gregor isn't a spy, he's just annoying. The next day at lunch he asks Sam how her date with Gregor went, and that's how she figures out he spied on them, because well, she didn't tell him that.
"Have you been spying on me?"
Danny messes with his food a little bit, and Tucker is sinking into his seat with embarrassment. He frowns, "Only last night. Those incompetent government dodos--"
His lip curls up; he gets all 'Shakespeare-y' (as Sam and Tucker put it) when he's insulting someone, "--kept appearing whenever Gregor did. I followed you and him last night to make sure he wasn't a spy."
A roundabout way of saying, "I was worried".
Sam is, as canon, furious. Danny understands why, he knows generally speaking that people don't like being spied on. But he's confused on just how angry she is, and is a little irritated by it.
"Why would you do that!" She exclaims, "That's way out of line, Danny."
"How? You spied on me when I was going on dates with Valerie." He narrows his eyes, and points his fork at her, "I'm not blind, I noticed."
"That's different, we told you why we were suspicious. And we don't have ghost powers like you do."
"I don't need ghost powers to sneak around, Sam, you've seen this firsthand. And I just told you why I followed you, I thought he was working with the guys in white--"
"So you think someone can only be interested in me if they're after you?" (this is a paraphrased quote, folks ;D)
"No! If that was the case I would have voiced my concern the moment I thought it. I don't get why you're so angry, you spied too."
Iiits.... a mess. Sam storms off with Gregor, Tucker tags along because okay, yeah, maybe Gregor isn't with the GIW, or maybe last night was a fluke. Either way he ends up tagging along. Danny overhears that conversation between the GIW and Mr. Lancer, and maybe he's right, maybe he's wrong; but something is up.
I've gotten to that scene in the locker room where Gregor tells Danny that he knows he doesn't like him, and I've paused at Danny's reply to say this: Danyal doesn't even bother trying to deny it.
"I know you do not like me."
"You're right; I don't."
"Ah, let me finish. I know you do not like me because you want to protect your friend, Sam, and I respect that."
"...That's correct."
"Good! Because I am going to ask her out."
"I had a feeling you'd say that," he stands up, claps his hand tight on Gregor's shoulder, and leans close to him with a threatening smile, "so you understand me when i say; if you break my best friend's heart, you're as good as dead, right?"
"Ah,, yes. I am so glad we got that cleared out of the way, and now I hope after we can.. how you Americans put it, hang out?"
In the episode he hugs Danny and gives him a la bise (which is that french greeting where you kiss someone on the cheek two or more times) after they end their conversation. But here, when he goes to do that to Danyal, Danny leans away, points an accusatory finger at him, and says; "Absolutely not; we are not close."
The next scene after that is like, end of day. Sam, Tucker, and Gregor walking away. Sam looks over her shoulder to glare at Danny, then gets forlorn. Tucker looks back and just looks forlorn.
(When did I start narrating each scene?? Eh, I'm writing this in brief spurts of time throughout the day. Don't fix what's not broke)
After that there's this whole scene with the two GIW agents that have been chasing Phantom all episode. They're there because they have Tucker's PDA that Skulker took, and it's got the information of their purple backed gorilla assignment on it. They've been going around seeing who Tucker associates with in hopes of catching Phantom.
Uhh ahaha and that is where this gets a little interesting imo, and also allows me to mention that im retconning Danyal's (already) redesigned ghost form. Which I've wanted to retcon even before this moment bc it was just too busy. I'll get to that in a moment.
The GIW suspect Gregor for being the Phantom because of his white hair and green eyes, which is all fine and dandy until you remember: Danyal (and by extension Phantom) has that very noticeable, rather identifiable facial scar that goes across the middle of his fucking face. The GIW could easily suspect that Phantom hides his scar with makeup if he's in disguise, but if they meet a kid with a seemingly identical facial scar and similar disposition? Hoo boy.
Solution? I've got two: Gregor is canonically a kid from Michigan who faked everything to impress Sam. Considering he knows she's gothic and knows that she's ultra-recyclo vegetarian? He probably watched her from afar or got information on her somehow. His hair is dyed, his eyes might just naturally be green, but if he notices that she's got a crush on either Danyal or Phantom? A little sfx makeup could help him recreate a similar looking scar.
My second solution that's gonna happen anyways bc its that suit redesign; Danyal does hide his face as Phantom. Ghosts are emotional creatures and its a popular headcanon that their interests, ambitions, etc, influence the way they look as a ghost, not just their death. A big reoccurring theme of my au is that Danyal did not leave the League unscathed, and that being an assassin is an important part of his identity.
So i'm discarding the hazmat suit look entirely and leaning into the 'assassin' thing. But the general (stylized) feel is like, white ribbon/cloth vambraces that he has used as a garrote at some point, a hood, a gaiter scarf-type thing. I'm keeping the cape. I did a doodle a few days back that's not the official redesign, but a redesign for Phantom. I may reblog this post with that attached because it's got the general feel down. There's very little white involved, but the inside of his cape flares out and looks like the night sky.
Now, the hood and gaiter scarf gets rid of most of the problem, but Danny's hood doesn't stay on all the time, so the GIW have likely seen the upper half of the scar. :] Gregor's own drawn-on scar doesn't have to be 1:1, but it looks close enough, right? A small scar cutting through the edge of his brow and ends right below the corner of his eye. A 'cool, badass' one opposed to Danny's 'garish' scar.
But! Back to the episode scene. Canon Danny gets written off as being 'too prepubescent' to be Phantom, and honestly it'd be hilarious if Danyal was written off for the same reason (he's calling them idiots in his head if they do). But instead -- leaning into the GIW's incompetence here -- he gets written off as being too mature or too talkative. Or something equally as absurd.
Sam breaks up with Gregor for canon reasons, but when Gregor does his "i really like you, but, come on-!" and gestures to tucker, he adds on "and that scary friend of yours too, seriously!"
Things go relatively the same as canon after that. Danny does end up apologizing for spying, however. Sam does it first. Sorrows, prayers, all that.
.
Things usually end up changed or different when I actually write it down, so I'd likely add more or adjust different scenes according to the flow of the oneshot. This is just like, a general vibe of how things would go, and where some of the more obvious changes would be if I did write this oneshot.
Hope you enjoyed! Thanks for the ask :]

One troupe I'll never get tired of in this crossover is Danny and co. being more human and alive than whatever human and alive people they're interacting with.
And don't get me wrong they should also be uncanny as hell, but at the same time they're also so very human. And that would be the most unsettling part of it all.
Idk I just love dismantling the xenophobia. They're so obviously not human, except they are also the most human anyone can be.
#idk#just thinking about the description of Lazarus pit demons#how they are gradually 'corupted' by the Lazarus water and 'lose their human appearance'#and how in dp setting the change in appearance of a ghost is often pictured as them embracing and expressing their own self image#without the limitation of a mortal body#like yes the Lazarus pits are supposed to be evil and corrupting in DC canon#but I just itch to question that#because what even is inherent evil?#dpxdc#dcxdp

I know that in canon (at least from the limited media I’ve consumed) Booster Gold hasn’t been to knowledgeable about history (again all I’ve really seen with him is in series) but I think it would be really funny if he was a huge history geek but doesn’t want to seem like a nerd so he never mentions that he knows all of this until he meets someone’s sidekick who is like- his favorite hero in history and starts confusing everyone around him because booster this kid did not defeat staro and vandal savage (almost)single handedly wtf????
#Booster Gold#MJ Carter#dc#My post#rambles#He meets impulse who is also a time traveler playing dumb and they just nod in understanding#The sidekick in question would probably be someone like Jon the first time he ever shows up to the watch tower#And billy#he would meet some kid who’s gonna be president one day and ask for an autograph to the utter confusion of literally everyone#He probably was internally screaming the first time he met every superhero#Miss Martian and Martian Manhunter were so confused#Externally he’s acting like a super arrogant/vain hero but internally he’s just#OH MY GOD WONDER WOMAN SHOOK MY HAND!!!! I JUST MET LOIS LANE!!!!!! IS THAT TAWKY TAWNY?!?!?#And he’s kind of a jerk sometimes but he looks up to these people#I know that in canon he went back in time to get rich#And probably doesn’t care much about the other supers#But guys how funny would it be if he idolized these heroes as a kid#And knows more about them then they do lol

Yk what's so fun about being a Batman fan? The fact that nothing is ever truly canon or fanon.
I'm not even talking about retcons here. I'm talking about when you're scrolling through TikTok, Tumblr, or whatever, and you come across something like this:
...
TimDrakeStan98:
Bro, why don't we ever talk about all the trauma Timmy went through? Little Bro's parents suckled, and he got kidnapped by the Joker, only to be abused by Bruce during his Robin training.
PleaseFuckMeCatwoman:
This pmo so bad. Go read the fucking comics. I hate fanon.
...
The funny thing is that all of this is Canon. Tim's dad had anger issues and wasn't really present for a good portion of his life. The Joker did kidnap him, and Bruce's Robin training was definitely... something.
See, the reason so many people think it's fanon is that in the comic, it's played off as a joke. Most of this was in the 90s, and having realistic trauma responses wasn't cool. People don't want to read that.
Fan spaces—especially in older fandoms—take these "jokes" and write fanfics exploring the potential societal implications and trauma responses that were glossed over in the original media.
So yeah. Did these things happen? Yep. Are there any actual consequences for these things? Nah. Will people still argue on its validity? Duh. No shit.
#like broski dont get me wrong#i hate wetcat!tim just as much#but it isnt a question of fanon vs canon#it about the interpretation you leave with#and contrary to popular belief; people are allowed to leave with their own interpretations#batman#batfam#dc comics#dc robin#tim drake#red robin#dc tim drake#dc red robin#canon#fanon#canon vs fanon#comics

im soooo fucking sick of people acting like you're heinous if you like the TT03 Lex+Kon retcon, like. Can you get off your high horse? You're not any better than someone else just for a Personal Preference. Holy fuckkkkk
Do I think Geoff wrote it shit? Yeah bruh 😂 the genetic absolution was insane and that's not what a clone is, oh my god. Why were you stupid and why did you explore The most boring possible choices.
But Paul Westfield? Who the fuck even is that anymore, my guys. Don't be acting like comics simplifying plot in order to streamline themes ain't a common thread. And also, I know comics do it bad but people engage with it on such bad faith..."everyone who likes the retcon likes it because of clex!" Nope, next. "It implies Kon is evil because of his genetics!" Yeah that's Geoff's fault and it don't mean that's the part I'm interested in about forcing the relationship between them. There is so much to be explored in the violation of that - Lex wanting a Superman he could control, Lex and his freakshit biodeterminism, Superman and the violation of an enemy, one of his greatest, one of the smartest, can you not imagine the strain? - and then how does it feel to be KON? I'm not talking about genetics - but socially, emotionally, no matter what is said to your face, Kon has learnt judgement from a TV screen, he knows reporters and stories and being in the fucking spotlight. Can you not think about how it adds an extra layer of hurt to the relationships he finds most important?
There's no one-to-one on familial relationships within the superfam, but to act like the Lex retcon does not have the opportunity for fascinating ✨ drama ✨ (LEX HAS SO MANY FUCKING MEDICAL ISSUES. KON DOESN'T KNOW SHIT ABOUT HOW LEX HAS CURED HALF OF THEM.) is an asspull.
Biodeterminism is fucking stupid! That doesn't mean there isn't interesting goddamn plots to explore about HOW OTHER PEOPLE TREAT KON BECAUSE OF IT.
Do I think other stories have told it better (Artemis, Steph, Joey?) Duh. DOES THAT MEAN I DON'T WANNA SEE IT? NO.
Also jfcccccc. It's been canon for longer than the OG SB run at this point. 1994 - 2003 (9 years) and then 2003 to 2025 (TWENTY-TWO. Bitch is old enough to drink).
Have your personal preference. Acknowledge the comics did a shit job actually making it Good. But don't get your panties in a twist if other people want to explore that fucking plot.
#leo u dont know what ur talking abt.#yes i do ive finished all of sb94 and i think using either backstory is fun depending on the themes u want to convey in ur fic <3#and I've never been a fan of gatekeeprs who bitch out how proud they are for gatekeeping #you know what's great? challenging the biodeterminism plotline and exchanging it for something that makes sense character wise!#you know what's great? making people question it and realise oh that's super dumb here's a better reason!#you know what's fandom? LITERALLY ALL OF THE ABOVE#this way people treat canon as having to be the one....end all be all. now. im sorry. but youre being an ass <3#fandom was always full of garbage. and some parts of it should be critiqued! and other parts are a gigglefest sleepover of dumb ideas#1. feral damian vs.#2. ooo what if kon feels shit about finding he's related to lex because he has only ever been exposed to nuclear family dynamics#and constantly takes on responsibility for the people he thinks are His?#i think eventually it wouldn't matter! but at FIRST? how do you reconcile what you thought you knew about yourself?#how do you trust others won't judge when YOU are already JUDGING YOURSELF.#i think it's silly. if its real. but i also think if its emotionally. that's the Proper Point here.#SIGHS LOUDLY anyway went on a block spree this morning :)#Leo's life#dc

What's your favourite batclan member and which one is your favourite to write?
ooooh, fun question!! as for favorite character, probably Helena Bertinelli. i am unwell about her. a couple years ago i was like "i don't know Huntress too well, I'll just read all the Huntress comics can't be that hard" and i did and since then she has lived rent-free in my mind. i never shut up about her and i have successfully convinced multiple people to be Huntress fans. if anyone ever wants Huntress comic recs, thoughts on who i ship her with, explanations of Helena Bertinelli vs Helena Wayne, i am your guy.
if we went with like, characters who are the more accepted main Batfam members, i'd have to say the basic answer of Tim Drake. he's just. he's my guy man idk what it is. a lot of facts about me are eerily similar to Tim so i'm blaming it on that. Red Robin (2009) altered my brain chemistry in ways i've yet to fix. a lot of my favorite Batfam arcs and storylines tend to involve him, and i think he's had a *lot* of really cool storylines. personally a big fan of A Lonely Place of Living, which as far as Rebirth goes, a pretty solid TIm story. i love Tim so dearly.
a close third favorite is Jean-Paul Valley, who also exists now as a more exterior Batfam member, but he's everything to me. Catholic guilt and dissociative identity disorder in one guy? sign me up i love him.
as for who's my favorite to write: once again probably Tim, just because i can confidently say i know him the most and i find exploring his flaws from his POV to be really fun. he's kind of an ass and can be ego-centric, but that's what makes him fun. i also love writing Jason, just because there's a self-awareness that a well-written Jason Todd has that's so fun to explore. also i pride myself in knowing i can write Jason better than Scott Lobdell can. which to be fair isn't a high bar, but given he has changed Jason for the worse and it took use like a decade to be free of his writing, i think i'm allowed it. i also really like writing Cass! i don't know if i can say i have as strong of a grasp on her as i do Jason or Tim, but she's such a complex character to write and i enjoy giving her a lot of dimension solely to combat her existing as a prop in most fanfic.
#necrotic answerings#this was such a simple question i made it *so* complicated i'm so sorry jkjkhgfhgjhkj#i'm serious about the huntress thing i almost included a screenshot of the spreadsheet i use to track my comic reading#bc it's just huntress huntress huntress huntress for a week.#i got possessed.#as a tim stan tho i get why tim stans are hated. trust me i fucking get it.#i dislike fanon tim personally#and some tim stans *really* are convinced tim is like. an unknown oppressed character dc shows no love to#as if he wasn't *the* it girl of the 90s and has multiple solo runs.#trust me dc pays attention to tim stop treating him like he's some sad ignored character#i went really hard back and forth with someone in a comment section on tiktok about that once#they could not stop insisting tim was an underrated character with no content in fanon or canon. i nearly lost it.#y'all this is a relatively big fandom we are not starved for content. esp about TIM DRAKE#anyway enough about that bc i do love him.#but helena does steal the number one spot from him.#honestly depending on the day i would even put jean-paul above tim-

I enter the fandom crossover tag. One is a mid-2000s kids cartoon that has slowly been replaced with fanon due to cool ideas but less than great writing, the other is a Comics/Cartoon/TV show/game/movies with over 70 years of history with various writers, and ever-changing canon, making it impossible to know every single little thing.
There is an interesting writing prompt for the crossover with a good amount of notes, indicating that other people liked this prompt and have written for it and/or recommended fics with similar ideas.
I enter the notes.
WHOOPS the first one I see is someone complaining about the prompt because either
1.) they don't like the core idea of the prompt
2.) The core idea for the prompt doesn't exist in canon
3.) One persons addition later in a large reblog chain doesn't align with canon
About half of the notes are some guy on a soapbox yelling about how this prompt is stupid and bad and people replying to tell them off for soapboxing on a writing prompt
Conclusion: I am begging people to learn Tumblr etiquette and scroll pass shit they don't like PLEASE
#cryptid screaming#YES this IS about the dpxdc tag and YES this is a vague callout#question for dc fandom purists: WHY the FUCK are you in the tags for crossover content?#especially the crossover tag for the ''fuck canon this is my sandbox'' fandom?#the posts in particular are‚ in order:#a danny getting de-aged and adopted prompt#a time travel prompt featuring special codes to indicate time travel#and a prompt about danny hiding his power level from the justice league#and YES this is a great example of why i don't write fics. at ALL.#dc fandom i want to get into dc but all y'all have going for you is pandared bc y'all seem MEAN.#and it's always yall starting the fight#and i will usually judge a piece of media by its fandom bc fandom is really fun for me#whole reason i don't watch an entire genre is because the fandom was nothing but drama and hate when i looked into it

hi lauren 😌 ok if dc were to ever make the elusive jason and rose outlaws team, who would you choose as the third member
hiiiiii im sorry this took a few days to get to i put a lot of thought into it <///3
so first of all. my #1 dream outlaws team is jason rose connor kara lorena. im not even exaggerating when i say i have thought about this team (whose dynamics i mostly made up) at least once a day for MONTHS. i know some of those characters being on a team together doesnt make sense but you just have to trust me. it all makes sense in my rich inner world. and someday i may get into it but i have a lot to say
but if im abiding by outlaws tradition of a trio. i have multiple options of who besides jay & rose.
eddie: obvious answer. hes been friends with both of them so its very common to put him in outlaws. HOWEVER.... i dont really see him as an outlaw. im including him in this list because i like the idea of the three of them together but i dont think he would really fit on an outlaws team. hes kinda just a normal hero and i dont think he would be super into the whole idea of killing people the way jason and rose do
kyle: i just think that the dynamic of jason rose & kyle would be SO funny. disasters. rose with kyle is "he was nice to me like 8 years ago so hes my best friend forever" while jason and kyle. you know. are the most annoying people ever. plus kyles views on killing are sorta "i dont do it unless i really want to but i think its cool" so he would tolerate them
steph: this would be so much fun. mwsl gave me minor crumbs of a jason rose & steph team up and i havent been the same since. steph can be a little bit murderous as a treat and jason & rose are enablers. idk i just think being an outlaw could be good for her
roy: HEAR ME OUT. SHUT UP AND HEAR ME OUT. i could fix rhato roy. my thought is roy post-cry for justice where hes mourning his daughters death and pushing everyone else away. and jason & rose go "quit your job join our emo band" and he becomes an outlaw bc he wants to be Angsty and Away From Heroes but jason & rose are like "sweet we have a responsible adult now 👍" and. roy cannot be around people younger than him without accidentally becoming an older brother figure. also roy & rose make me go crazy so im doing this for ME
eddie fyers: this popped into my head as i talked about eddie bloomberg earlier and i cant stop thinking about it. can you fucking imagine
artemis: yeah yeah she was already an outlaw. but what if she was again in a cooler more homosexual way. jason & artemis had a good dynamic sometimes in rhato 2016 when lobdell wasnt being weird, and rose & artemis would be so much fun given that rose loves to pick fights and artemis would be able to pick her up and throw her. to me it would be good and i want these two to interact
grace choi: okay listen. i just really liked her in outsiders 2003. as a treat to me i think she should be worse. canon toxic dyke getting worse because of a non canon toxic dyke and her boytoy freak
dana harlow: DANA COME BACK. she was the best ever for the two (2) issues shes been in. and rose & dana would be soooooo good and i need it so bad
but ideal jason & rose dynamic is this↓ so maybe its better for everyone if they have a red hood & ravager team up. hand in unlovable hand.
#thank you so much for this question this is so fun to think about#the problem is i dont want any of these to be canon because i wouldnt wish rhato on my worst enemy#but inside my head.... comics are good#dc

@anxiette
#@anxiette#anxiette#not totally sure how to tag people to reply to questions in tags but i'm trying#anyway#Danny Phantom is basically always trending on tumblr#I think it's mostly because of the crossover fandom that mixes DP with DC Comics (especially Batman)#as to why this fandom#or this combo of fandoms#it's unclear?#I suspect a large part of it is that Danny Phantom the show is riddled with Angsty Implications^tm that the show then never explores#which makes it prime real estate for fanfic explorations of said Implications#ao3's “vivisection” tag is ~23% Danny Phantom fics as a result - out of a current 1764 total there are 411 Danny Phantom ones#and then Danny gets added to Batfam/Batman fanon found family type fics#at this point there are so many DPxDC fics that sometimes people learn about Danny Phantom the character by reading fanfic and then think#that he's just another DC character lol#oh also#part of the popularity of Danny Phantom on tumblr is likely also because of Wes Weston#aka the entirely fan-invented character who SHOULD BE CANON#(many people don't realize he isn't)#Wes Weston is the 1 person who realizes that Danny Fenton is Danny Phantom and is constantly trying to persuade people of this obvious fact#but nobody believes him#and then often Danny ends up yanking his chain because he knows nobody will believe him#honestly the Danny Phantom fandom has a LOT of fanon that is included in almost every fic#I think it's somehow ended up being chosen as a super flexible fan space that allows for a lot of creativity#specifically collaborative creativity of a type that is very fun#anyway check out the Danny Phantom ao3 (archiveofourown.org) tag#currently there are 24743 fics and counting#46 new ones added so far today (PST time) alone#26 of those - over half! - are DP x DC crossover fics that also have the “Batman - All Media Types” fandom tag on them#5638 DPxDC fics currently

Batfam X Reincarnated! Reader [but make it angsty]
I'm feeling angsty so saddle up for this one, also yes I'm writing this at 12 am once more? How could you tell (●'◡'●)
Quick disclaimer for canon-typical for violence, illness, death [lots of it], angst, and time loops. Also this makes, like, zero sense to me but I still wanna write it so yay!
The world always had a love for the dramatics. Everything on this planet has faced hardship after dramatic hardship without delay. It's no question as to why Reader was currently coughing up blood. They were sick, terminal even, and there was nobody to comfort them in their time of need.
Their family had labeled them as a 'financial burden' and cut off all contact with them aside from a once in a blue moon visit. It was supposed to be today but the weather was uncaring and unkind, it was like the sky had opened up to pour all it's tears out for the day. Roads were flooded and it was simply out of the question for people to be making drives.
Reader coughed once, then twice, and then for a final third time as something wet was expelled from their lungs. They looked down, ah...that was their blood, wasn't it? They didn't have time to call for someone, as this was a new development and something that shouldn't be happening, but they were attacked by an onslaught of rapid coughing.
It was getting harder to breath and there was a terrible pressure behind their eyes, like it was going to pop. And then something broke, a silent snap of the thread, and Reader couldn't stop the overflowing blood spill from their lips.
Distantly they heard the shocked scream of someone, maybe it was a nurse? But it sounded so familiar...there were hands shaking them in panic. Rough, calloused hands that felt like someone from their childhood.
Rough hands rubbed over their face as they let out a childish giggle. "Dad stop! You're gonna mess up moms hard work!!" And a rough laugh responded back with a fond voice. "Ah but you're such a cool looking tiger, look at how fearsome you are! I must tame you with pets so you wont feast on us poor folk" Followed by even more childish giggles from the two.
Reader wondered if this was the hands of their father, but brushed it off with a tired sigh. There's no way their father would be here, the roads were covered in too much water.
The book slipped from their hand and fell to the floor just as Reader closed their eyes. The last thing they could ever see through the blurriness of their vision was their fathers terrified and panicked face.
Guess he really did show up. How cruel of fate to do such a thing in this life..
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --
Reader opened their eyes to a more comfortable bed, one without the itchy hospital blanket that was too thin for comfort. They raised a hand to their face and rubbed away the tears. They looked to the wall, finding the mirror they used to have in their childhood room before they moved.
They lost the mirror sometime during the, moving process and they never saw it again. They had to move closer to the hospital for their mothers treatment. Who would have guess that Reader would have the same illness as their mother later down the line?
Reader pushed away their thoughts, they didn't have time to think about that. This was the tenth time they've died in this universe. And just like the last ten times, they woke up back in their tiny ten year old body like it was all a bad dream.
"Why can't this end? What am I doing wrong? I've been here so many times..." Reader thought to themselves trying to understand this terrible time loop. In the first loop they had clung to their mother, afraid of their sickness. They hadn't died yet, only having been reincarnated into the DC universe as Bruce's neglected child who had a sad fate.
Their mother, Bruce's second wife, had an uncurable illness that would be later passed down to Reader due to genetics. It was one the writers made up for pure angsts reasons, there was no cure and it acted like the Hanahaki Disease. Not in a "I need my love to be reciprocate or I'll spit up flowers and die, or lose all my memories and feelings of you to get rid of them" but rather in the way that the lungs were filled to the brim with something that shouldn't be there and will continue to grow unless you get a new set of lungs.
They tried so desperately to keep the illness from developing in that life time, even trying to tell them of their previous life as someone from another universe. Their kind mother had only patted their head with a small laugh and praising them for how creative their mind was.
When it did develop, like it always does, they were branded as having cursed their mother by the public. Their father, who couldn't stand the looks they were giving his child so he decided that it was best for them to stay inside. So he locked them away without a word, and Reader was only let out for their mothers funerial.
Reader will never forget the feeling of betrayal, and Bruce will never forget the way his own child had glared at him with so much hate in their eyes. How could he do this to them? To lock them away and not let them visit their mother? How could he? How dare he.
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --
In their next life Reader hadn't said a word about it to their mom, only clinging to them like a second pair of skin. Where ever their mom went they would follow. Yet she still died of the same illness on the 5th of May, just like clockwork.
The third and fourth played out roughly the same. Reader clung to their mom, attempted to be kind to Bruce and his own posse of children but was met with confused looks considering they spent most of their time in the hospital or in their room. They wouldn't die of the sickness, not in those lives, but rather that it was an attack that stole their life. In the third it was a gunshot to the stomach and they were left to bleed out in some warehouse.
In the fourth they were pushed out the way of falling rubble and had gotten impaled by some exposed metal wires. They knew it was an accident. Robin hadn't meant for them to get hurt that way, not ever. But it still happened. It still hurt. They could never make it past 18, always dying before their 19th birthday.
They couldn't stand to be touched in the next life. The weight of it all had gotten to them and they just...couldn't do it anymore. No false joy, no hiding away their sorrows behind closed doors knowing nobody would check on them. They had sobbed so much, and cried for so long that their tears had left them feeling hallow. The next lives just blurred together like sand slipping through their fingers.
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --
This time was different. For lack of better words, it was weird. Their father had woken them up with a tight hug, sobbing into their shoulder like he was so afraid they might disappear if he softened his grip. Their mother had been woken up by the missing warmth of her husband and had followed him to your room.
She didn't say a word, only hugging the both of them as tight as she could. After that night things started to change from Readers past memories. When Bruce took in Dick, he didn't forget about them after a while. He made time and an effort to include them into his plans, to hangout with his friends.
And when Bruce introduced Jason? He had looked at them like he was seeing a ghost, like he was looking at someone he knew had already died but still couldn't come to terms with it. Reader would never accept it but they had a feeling that people were starting to remember their past lives as well.
Tim had been the most normal. He didn't look at them like a ghost, didn't cling to them like a tick. He had just sat next to them in the library and asked them about their day. And Reader would like to mention they did not tear up at the question, no that would be a bit silly. It's not like they've been waiting eleven lifetimes for someone to ask them, no certainly not.
Steph had invited them places, treated them like they've always been apart of their friendship. Like it was the most natural thing to do in the world. Like in another life time she didn't avoid them like she knew they were dying and didn't want to stick around.
Cassandra was the second best thing to normal in this life. She hadn't deviated, nor had she had some twist in her personality like she was privy to information she couldn't share. No, she had done what she always did and silently offer her support. A tissue when no one was looking during a sad play, a pat on the back when Reader was looking down, and pat on the head when Reader felt like they were simply fading into the background once more.
But Damian? He avoided them at first. like he couldn't stand to see their faced. To him Reader looked sickly, so close to death, that it scared him. He was afraid to touch them but at the same time he just wanted to hold them close and never let go. He couldn't get the images of their death out of his mind.
The way they looked pale when he found them in the first life, frozen solid with nothing but a blanket to keep them warm during the night beside their mothers grave. The way they had seemed so at peace in their final moments, like it didn't matter at all. The way he found them once more in the second life, having died in a car accident near the harbor. Their body submerged in water had floated to the top, mocking him as if saying that this could have been avoid had he shown up sooner.
He found them bleeding from their stomach, beaten and bruised and so incredibly pale. Then he was the cause of their next death. He'll never forgive himself for that. Never. He should have known that it was exposed, should have pulled them his way instead of pushing them. How could he be so stupid? Then he found them in the next, and the next, and the next, and the next, and the next. Pleaseletitstop, hessorrypleasejustletitstop. Because fate hates him so much for how he treated Reader in the first life, he found them in all the other lifetimes too all except the last one.
Bruce had found them. Coughing up their lungs with a pained look, realizing that they were dying just like their mother was and he couldn't stop it. He was unable to do anything, all he could do was shout their name in panic as he tried to keep them awake and- oh god where the hell were the doctors?!
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --
In this life time the Wayne family had remembered. And cursed with the fruit of knowledge they did everything they could to keep Reader safe from all harm and away from the prying eyes of the public. This time they would do it right. They'd make sure that Reader's mother would survive, they'd do anything to keep the two of them alive this time around.
And if they had to use the Lazarus Pits to do so then so be it.

Haunted Eyes
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x Reader
Summary: Based on the Episode "The Power Broker" from the Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Zemo is offering the Winter Soldier to Selby for payment, but the reader plays his handler. Hurt/comfort type shyt
Warnings: canon level violence, slight panic attack, mentions of ptsd
A/N: Holy shit guys I haven't written (and posted it) in over four years. I hope you enjoy it, hopefully my writing as improved since high school!
You were unhappy with the idea from the start.
Your best friend, closest confidant, one you’ve watched grow into a new version of himself; forced to play the part of the man he used to be. Could you even consider the Asset a part of Bucky? Would it be rude not to? There’s been many long conversations about who he is now, how he defines himself in this modern era.
Zemo’s plan was awful enough that it could just work. Bucky back under the invisible muzzle of his former self, playing a part to appease a buyer who just couldn’t resist.
If that wasn’t awful enough, Zemo had a role for you as well. His field Handler, his orderly, his master. Someone he would obey every and any command from.
The thought of it made you sick. Your stomach rolled as you zipped up your disguise, provided by Zemo conveniently on the flight to Madripoor. A tactical Kevlar jacket, form fitting dark slacks and heavy combat boots.
Looking in the mirror, you fixed your posture to reflect one with authority. Shoulders back, chin lifted, hands on your hips. You could possibly make this work, if you could see it through.
Bucky didn’t say a word to you at the club. Neon lights, hazy blue smoke, the odor of too many bodies rubbing close together. The Asset is not supposed to speak unless spoken to, therefore his coldness shouldn’t have been a surprise to you.
“Ready to comply, Soldat?” Zemo smirked at him in Russian as Bucky followed you and Sam through the crowd.
You didn’t flinch, but you felt you heart tear in two at the empty look in his eye. How did it come back so easily? The Bucky you woke up to everyday had a warm look in his deep blue eyes, crows feet crinkling when he smiled at you. This was not your Bucky.
As a shady looking man placed his hand on Zemo’s shoulder, you ordered Bucky to attack. He did so without a question, reminding you of the fraction of the man you saw on the DC bridge almost a decade ago. He put men down without blinking, clearing the room as people gasped.
Selby’s lounge was tinted with green neon and a faint smell of cigarette smoke. Your stomach turned at the atmosphere. Zemo lounged in a modern looking chair, Bucky positioned himself between the two, Sam opposite. You stood near Bucky, posture stiff, arms behind your back, face rigid as steel. Bucky was the same.
Selby reminded you of a snake, draped over her disgusting couch, wrapped in expensive materials and reeking of designer alcohol. She eyed your soldier with a hungry gaze, a different emotion burned in your chest.
She greeted Zemo not as a welcomed friend, but as an adversary she couldn’t wait to see what the next move was. You read her well enough to know she was skeptical of Zemo, the rumors of him locked away were supposed to be true. So how was he in Madripoor?
One look at Sam’s face showed you he did not trust Zemo, not one bit. Apparently Bucky did somewhat, or didn’t care about trusting him, just using him to get to the next step. Bucky’s past wasn’t based on trust, it was based on obedience.
And fear.
Zemo remained relaxed in his chair, glancing over at Bucky who stood so stiffly in the corner. His eyes were emotionless, muscles slack. You knew if you placed a muzzle over his mouth, it would be like nothing had changed at all since he came into your life. All the progress he was working towards with you and Dr. Raynor would be gone just like that.
“In exchange for information of the serum, I offer you the Winter Soldier,” he smiled in his sinister way. “Along with the code words to control him of course.”
Selby sat up straighter on her snake skin couch, like a cobra raising it’s head before it attacks. She was interested.
“He will do anything you want,” Zemo mused.
You met Sam’s eye across the room, worried, curious, concerned. Bucky slipped back into the role of someone he never wanted to be ever again. Maybe just a little bit too easily.
“Anything?” She leaned forward, puffing her chest out slightly, eyes locked on Bucky. Not his eyes, anywhere but his eyes in fact. His chest, his shoulders, new and improved arm, thighs, his feet. But she did not look in his eyes.
“Handler?” Zemo’s cold, calculating eyes turned to you. “Care to demonstrate?”
The words were bitter on your tongue, but Zemo’s warning replayed through your head. You cannot break character if you want to live, you have to sell it.
“Ready to comply, Soldat?” You tried to not stumble over the Russian, the language you learned so many years ago. The language that haunted his nightmares, waking up mumbling in a Slavic tongue engrained in his consciousness. Speaking the language for the both of you meant something had gone terribly wrong.
The awful blank stare in eyes remained, but his jaw clenched as he nodded. “Yes, Handler.”
“Kneel, Asset,” you hated the tone of your voice. One you hadn’t used in a long time, one that was never meant for Bucky.
He dropped to his knees at your feet, eyes still staring straight ahead. You tried not to wince as his knees slammed into the hardwood floor without even a moment of hesitation from him.
From the sheath on your thigh, you lifted a knife to his neck. He didn’t blink as the blade pressed into his skin.
“The Asset is completely compliant to your every need,” your voice was brittle, like glass. It appeared strong but one push was all it would take to bring it all down. “He will fight, kill, destroy anyone you ask him to.”
Selby’s hungry eyes asked for more.
“The asset does not think for itself,” you continued. “Anything you ask it to do will happen automatically. Completely submissive for its handler.”
You swallowed hard, turning your attention down to the man at your feet. “Asset, lean forward.”
You watched as Bucky leaned forward, digging the blade into the soft skin of his throat. You fought to keep your expression neutral as a tiny bead of blood trickled over his Adams apple.
“He will do anything without regards for himself.”
Selby smiled, clearly thrilled with her new deal, turned to Zemo and gave up the name of the doctor working on the serum.
“Stand, Asset,” you said, just loud enough to be heard by the one who mattered most.
Bucky returned to his standing position, posture military perfect, eyes staring straight head. A small stream of blood drying over the stubbly skin of his throat.
You were grateful for the tactical jacket when the shooting started. Selby’s lifeless body stared up at you like a snake skin, a hole blown through her sternum.
Although the cover was blown, Selby dead from a mysterious assassin and a whole nightclub full of dangerous people below; you were grateful you were no longer Bucky’s handler. The mask he had donned was gone, the awful, haunted look in his eyes had vanished but left a trace.
Later...
Finding Sharon Carter in Madripoor was not on your bingo card for this mission, but you were grateful for the temporary shelter of her apartment. Bucky lost his Asset attire, Sam no longer looked like a pimp, you were able to borrow some of Sharon’s sensible shoes.
Your adrenaline crashed at Sharon’s apartment, after running for your life from Selby’s night club and a bounty placed on your heads. All of the energy you felt when playing the Handler drained out of you, it was all you had to try and listen to Sharon discuss her situation.
You pulled your feet beneath you on her fancy leather couch, resting your head in your palm against the arm rest. Your mind replaying the image of Bucky leaning into the knife in your hand.
Bucky sat on the other end of the couch, avoiding your eye contact, hands laced together in his lap.
You wished he would catch your eye, lift the corner of his mouth in a subtle smile, reach over and nudge your foot with his. But when he thought nobody was watching, his head hung low, staring down into his lap, bouncing his knee in the way you know meant anxiety was making his skin crawl.
Sharon was hosting a party in the gallery below her luxury apartment, full of questionably authentic art pieces and shady customers.
Although the customers were having fun, the four of you observed, on edge. Despite the open bar, nobody from your party was drinking, silently observing the life Sharon had built for herself.
Bucky noticed as you slipped away, seemingly uncomfortable in your own skin. He silently followed you from a distance, watching you take the elevator up to Sharon’s apartment. He waited and took the next car up.
By the time you reached Sharon’s apartment, your chest was tight and it felt like you were breathing through a straw. No matter how deep of a breath you tried to take, it was never enough air.
You stumbled your way into her bathroom, turning on the sink and watching cold water flow over your wrists. Bracing your forearms against the porcelain, you dropped your head, pressing your eyes into the damp skin.
Tears burned in your eyes, squeezing your eyelids together you tried to contain the guilt building inside.
The scary thing about Bucky was that he could sneak up on you like nobodies business, avoiding squeaky floor boards and balancing his weight just perfectly. He was still like a ghost in many ways, as much as he tried to erase it.
So when he knocked gently on the bathroom door, it startled you, moving you to quickly wipe your eyes.
“Y/N?” His voice was gentle as he called through the door.
You froze, trying to steady your breathing although you knew his super soldier hearing picked up on it through the door.
“Y/N, Honey, let me in,” he murmured, leaning his temple against the door, hand on the doorknob.
“I’m okay,” but your voice was shaking.
“Y/N.”
You sighed, wiping your eyes once last time before opening the door. Your super soldier was leaning against the door frame, arms crossed over his black long-sleeve shirt. Usually you’d admire how the material stretched across his broad chest, but your eyes were flooded with tears.
You let him in without another word, he shut the door behind him. Sitting down on the lip of the modern-looking tub, you ran your hands through your hair, trying to calm down.
He didn’t speak, his favorite tactic, which drove you crazy. Forcing you to fill the silence like an interrogation technique.
“Bucky, I…” you swallowed hard, guilt stirring in your gut as you looked at him. You blinked quickly before trying again. “Bucky, I don’t ever want to do that again.”
“Do what, Doll?”
“Be your handler,” you spoke the world like it was a slur, a bad taste in your mouth. “Make you… Make you…”
He tilted his head at you, observant eyes watching your every move.
“Honey, you didn’t make me do anything.”
You stood up, standing in front of him as he leaned against the sink.
He had wiped the blood away and the serum had healed the thin skin over his throat, you swore you could still see where your knife had nicked him. You reached out and gently touched the spot under his chin where you had pressed the unyielding steel.
“I hurt you,” you shook your head, chin quivering.
“I’m okay,” he shook his head. Your touch was warm against his skin, he reminds himself that he enjoys this feeling.
“I don’t want to be another person in your life that’s hurt you,” tears spilled over your cheeks now, dripping under the neckline of your borrowed shirt.
He closed his flesh hand around yours, the one that was still tracing the healed line on his skin. His clear eyes met yours, blurry with tears and guilt.
“You are not my handler,” he spoke quietly, but firmly. “I know the difference. You were playing the part, not that it ended up mattering anyway. You didn’t hurt me, Y/N.”
You looked down at your shoes and tried to focus on your breathing. Why was he being so nice to you? You became another figure of those that had hurt him, had turned him into a shell of a human.
“C’mere,” he murmured, wrapping an arm around your shoulders and pulling you against him. You let your head fall against his shoulder, listening to the metal hum under your ear, a sound that has always brought you comfort.
“There is never a good time to be playing the Winter Soldier,” he spoke softly, just for your ears only. “But if I had to choose anyone to be my handler, I’d choose you any day.”
“Don’t,” you wiped your eyes on the soft cotton of his shirt.
“Nah, I’m serious,” he took a deep breath, which reminded you to copy him. Something you do all the time for him. “You’re the one that’s pulling me out of all this. You know all the dark secrets of my mind.”
“Dark secrets?” You wrinkled your nose, feeling your muscles relax a touch.
“Mhm,” his warm hand felt good on your skin, brushing the tender skin of the underside of your arm. “I trust you.”
Trust was a hard thing for Bucky, you could count on one metal hand the amount of people he trusts. But if Bucky could still trust you after playing the antagonist of his nightmares…
And you knew what those nightmares were like for him, leaving him shaking, sweating, reeling for a grasp on reality. Out of all the handlers he had in his lifetime, you hoped you were the one that showed him the most kindness.
“I don’t want you feeling all mixed up now,” he squeezed you quickly before letting go. “There’s only room for one crazy person in this relationship.”
You wiped your eyes, sneaking a glance in the mirror over his shoulder. He blocked your reflection with his strong back, leaning in to kiss you.
You’re forgiven, he told you, pressing his body into yours.
And that’s all you needed.

Incredible how dc pushes the "Jason died because he was reckless" narrative to try and absolve Bruce of blame because, victim-blaming aside, that's worse, right? You understand how that's worse?
No matter how you interpret it, in Jason's post-crisis run, Bruce is gonna be partially responsible for Jason's death, because he was the one to offer him Robin in the first place in exchange for a good foster home (Batman 1940 #408), and because he had fucked up with Jason to the point he felt the need to run to a whole other continent in search for family (Batman 1940, a death in the family). Like, that part of responsibility, that remains no matter how you spin it, because regardless of why specifically Jason went in the warehouse, that's why he was in Ethiopia with the Robin suit in the first place.
But this aside, in canon? Jason goes in the warehouse because Sheila betrays him and he does what any hero, and many children, would do in his place: he wants to help Sheila, he listens to her, he trusts his mother. The people directly responsible for Jason's death, in canon, are Joker, Sheila, and crowd of goons that helped Joker and Sheila take Jason down in the warehouse. It's clear as day who the villains are in there and it doesn't add any stain on Bruce's ledger.
But according to that victim-blaming narrative that Alfred and Bruce (and others later on) spin in-story, and that dc spins in meta? Jason died because he was reckless. So it's Jason's fault right? Yes and no. I need to write a more detailed meta about the two types of recklessness and how confusing the two accidentally led to Starling writing a compelling narrative with Jason, but basically the important question here is why was Jason reckless. And Starlin answers us, in text, in a death in the family: Jason has been behaving abnormally recklessly recently, because he's suffering. Bruce tells us, straight up, that he suspects Jason to be suicidal. This isn't the first time Starlin's Batman says Jason is suicidal: even in Batman (1940) #416, Batman explains Jason's "reckless" behaviour to Dick as a symptom of being mentally unwell, and very clearly implies Jason already struggles with suicidal thoughts (which I maintain is the reason why Dick changed his mind on Jason so quickly and gave him his number with a "you can reach out to me, don't let a lack of communication become your achille heel" talk at the end of #416.)
And Bruce's POV mind be often biased, but we see, ourselves, Jason jump in front of bullets in aditf and it's like... As much as I'm not convinced with Bruce's random explanation for Jason's struggles in aditf, I do agree that he is being suicidal (and considering the stories that come right before this one, I completely understand why he would be.) So that's why Jason is reckless in aditf. It's not why he died, but if we listen to that victim-blaming narrative that claims his recklessness is indeed what killed him, doesn't that make Bruce more guilty? Because that means Bruce knew Jason was suicidal (literally jumping in front of bullets with apparently no consideration for his life) and left a fifteen years old active suicide risk alone in a completely foreign environment after having messed up very severely with him during the whole issue, and then he told him "do not go into that warehouse alone, there's a very dangerous guy who wants to kill you." In terms of responsibility, Bruce is actually very damn lucky Jason, like some impulsive suicidal teenagers his age would have, didn't think "oh well, I'll try my luck against the guy who wants to kill me alone and that way either I win and get reassured in my heroism and right to be alive, or I die and that saves me the trouble of buying rope and a step ladder!" Bruce took the Robin costume from Jason to protect him from this exact type of situation but didn't seem to realize the danger he was putting Jason in at that moment. And it's not just me saying that! I don't have the exact reference (I think it was in Gotham Knights?...to verify) Barbara, after finding out about Jason's death, literally tells Bruce that this is his fault and that she warned him Jason had issues.
Of course, all of this is moot point, because it's not why Jason went in the warehouse in the first place, but I can't help but feel baffled at the audacity of DC, who are so deep into their psychophobia, classism, general victim-blaming bullshit and ingrained stereotypical conception of the "troubled teen" that they don't realize that the revisionist interpretation of Jason's death they are defending is literally worse for Bruce. And I have to say, it certainly doesn't paint people trash-talking Jason and blaming him for his death to prop Tim up as "better" and "different" in a very good light either (especially since, if i'm not wrong, there's an arc in which Tim struggles with suicidal thoughts himself... especially since Tim's trauma happened after he became Robin and is, for the most part, a direct consequence of his heroism. Doesn't exactly paint the adults in Jason and Tim's life in a favourable light...)
Anyway, stop blaming Jason's death on his recklessness to absolve Bruce: you're only making it worse.

Captain marvel remembers everything. He remembers all the memories of past champions, like their family, their emotions after becoming the champion of magic and their pain. He feels the pain of their death or even when the females champions gave birth (pregnancy included). Cap can't never forget about the memories was given when becoming the champion. It's like his own body record everything that happens in their life, civilian or champion form doesn't matter he will always remember.
But on his civilian form he has a somewhat larger capacity of remembering things than a average person. Captain remembers everything and never forgets but Billy forgets things and will always remember as much an average can. So imagine this:
Captain marvel is at the watchtower with the rest of the JL members for a meeting. Marvel is getting a bit bored so he space out a bit and then he remembers a memory of a past champion child. But due to sharing the memories and emotions of the past he also thinks that the kid is his. So he let's out a small chuckle and he continue to be spaced out as he enjoys the memories of playing with his kid. Some of the members look away from were Batman was talking and look at Captain, Batman notice and question him.
Batman looked at Captain with a small tilted of his head and had a confused, curious and annoyed look: What so funny Captain? You seem to be spaced out in the middle of the meeting.
Captain marvel shook off of his Dreamland thoughts and unintentionally said something he might regret later on (He is still a bit spaced out so he doesn't notice what he says): Oh nothing much I'm just remembering some memories of my kid.
Many of the members of the jl are shocked because they didn't know Captain had kids. JL member: wait what! You have a kid.. wait no hold up!
Captain marvel: Yeah I do...
JL member: what's with that sad tone?
Captain marvel: Oh nothing much I just remember that I can't no longer see her after all these centuries.

✮ — 𝐎𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐃𝐎𝐌𝐈𝐍𝐈𝐎𝐍 : in which control is your only friend . . . (concept idea)

guys let me cook on this one but i suddenly want to post about an isekai trope au with modern! reader being transported into the world of dc comics. of course you're sentient, but sentience doesn't mean autonomy, because you're forced to don a new identity as a vigilante; guided by a malicious system only you can perceive.
a superhero, a new canon to the world, whose body is still adjusting to its given powers. you are not omnipotent, you are not a deity, and you most certainly could not adapt at such a timely rate; but you were once omniscient to the multiple plots and universes of the world you now live in. that is the only advantage you have amongst the unease you feel at the knowledge that eyes are now plastered all over your existence; a twisted game toying with you, with the price being your very life.
turns out, your existence is controlled by the very viewers (you guys, the commentors, the voters) who determine whichever fate you land on, a rule told by the system from when you were once transported into the world. whether it'd be mere yes or no answers to awkward questions, or even something as major as choosing to save others, or yourself in a life or death situation, and even as far as your love interests— only they can choose, and you'd be left to commit upon such acts, with or without your consent.
imagine, not only your presence is bared naked to the entire world, but every word you say are remembered, are criticized weekly. each and every action of yours that aren't determined by your cruel fans will gain both equal and opposite reactions.
your superhero name is chosen by whoever is the sick mastermind of this entire game. and you! for now, silly you would enjoy the momentary lapses of excitement meeting your favorite characters, but happiness in such a world does not exist. the longer you stay, where every week, your own destiny dictated by phone calls, comments, likes, reactions, and polls; the more you wish you never once set out to abide within the rules of this... game.
it is only your emotions, your thoughts that you can control, but never certain actions at major events. there is no such thing as discontinuity, or changing plotlines once you're able to catch a moment on what you truly wish to say.
as your story is published amongst thousands of people, it is up to your viewers, your deities, to decide whether or not you should live, die, or give you a chance to try to survive without them.
and it is up to you whether to fight back, or to allow their choices to destroy your very life.
either way, your tale is set to capture the hearts of many. and the only destiny nobody, not even your fanbase, nor you, could change, are the multiple set of characters within your world to eventually set their eyes on you.
and my, oh my, it is never once mentioned within these lines of texts that these characters are controlled by anybody, no?
*ੈ✩‧₊˚ are you interested to join your journey ?
♛ —⠀YES !⠀ yes, i'd love to see where this goes.
♚ —⠀NO !⠀⠀i'd rather not endanger myself, no thank you.
