For the ask prompt game...
Spirk #17 to distract
"Report," Kirk ordered. The word buzzed low against Spock's ear, quiet and audibly tense.
"Less than two minutes until they reach our location, Captain," Spock replied promptly. "Commander Scott will need at least another eight before the transporter is operable again." His voice was equally hush, despite their perceived solitude. He had seen carelessness take far too many lives during his time in Starfleet; he would not allow it to take his captain as well - and, illogically, Spock could not quite dispense of the phantom sensation of eyes on the back of his neck.
"We'll need to bluff it," Kirk decided, looking grim.
His gaze was strangely intense against Spock, full of rioting emotion, and, almost, Spock wished to look away. He did not. Instead, he nodded, holding steady eye contact.
The odds, Spock knew, that Kirk's gambit - whatever it may be - would succeed were... poor. The guards had, after all, seen their faces. But Kirk would keep fighting right until the bitter end, and Spock, of course, would be right beside him.
Solemn, he vowed, "I shall follow your lead," though he knew Kirk would not have doubted it. Still, the unnecessary words were well worth the way the tension around Kirk's eyes melted away, the somber set of his mouth slipping instead into a golden-edged smile.
Almost wonderingly, a soft chuckle fell from those lips, incongruous in their surroundings and entirely treasured. "What would I do without you?" Kirk asked, reaching up to exert gentle pressure on Spock's bicep.
I pray you never need find out, Spock made to say, getting only so far as drawing in breath before the sound of distant footsteps drew them both from their quiet moment, snuffing the words before they could take shape. "Eighteen seconds," he said instead, after rapidly adjusting his calculations. Faster than anticipated.
Kirk nodded, some unreadable emotion hiding in the soft crease between his brows.
"Forgive me, Mr. Spock," Kirk said softly, and Spock did not have time to question what he meant before Kirk was pulling him down by his shirt, dragging their lips together with great urgency.
Quite suddenly, Spock found that his mind was entirely blank. Strange heat flickered through his whole form, and his universe narrowed to only Kirk, all soft and human-warm, who was pressed flush to his chest and kissing him.
One, then two seconds stuttered by in which Spock thought no thoughts at all, struck utterly motionless in the face of such unexpected attentions. He only felt, swept away by the sensation of pliant lips against his own and warm fingers stroking through his hair, gently mussing.
The very first thought to break to the surface was simply, Jim. A wave of emotion flooded in with it, astonishment and affection sweeping over him in such quantities that he felt nearly lightheaded.
The second was, We will be caught, and Spock jolted as something near to panic rose up inside his gullet, urging him to take Jim into his arms and run.
The third, however, was not his own; it was pressed into his katra from the outside by Jim's careful fingers, his clever mind slipping easily past Spock's shields. Play along, he said, projecting deliberate calm through their connection. Still, Jim was unpracticed in telepathic arts, and beneath that false serenity Spock could feel a tangle of guilt and determination, bitter and writhing.
The truth came to Spock in one fell swoop.
Jim's gambit... was this.
His lips and his hands, which pressed themselves so tenderly to Spock's skin, were not for him.
It was not love which had drawn his captain into his arms, but mere utility. Jim had realized what Spock had not: though they could not hide themselves, they could, perhaps, distract from themselves.
Two men attempting to look inconspicuous would only draw suspicion. Two men locked in a romantic embrace, however, may be overlooked - or even deliberately ignored. Few were comfortable with looking closely at the private passions of strangers, and fewer still would see reason to. Those searching for them, Spock hoped, would not. There would be no logic in halting an escape attempt solely for a kiss, after all.
Therefore, in order to escape unnoticed, they must be convincing.
They must seem, to any observers, to be completely and entirely immersed in one another, with no care for anything going on in their surroundings, and no fear of discovery.
Two lives, purchased with a kiss.
It was entirely logical, then, for Spock to part his lips, inviting Jim's tongue to dip inside of the wet cave of his mouth and meeting it with his own. If a groan rumbled deep within his chest, it could surely only help their cause; there was no need to swallow it down.
This disguise would, Spock observed as Jim's tongue flicked gently at his mouth, be far easier to maintain than it had any right to be.
It was a terribly simple matter for a man in love to behave as though he were a man in love.
The difficult part, then, would be remembering that it was a ruse. Already, heat bubbled deep within Spock, aching want suffusing his every neuron. Every faint brush of flesh sent golden tendrils of telepathic energy sparking across his skin, and it was all Spock could manage to hold himself back from pressing hungry fingers to Jim's meldpoints and sinking into that wonderfully enticing mind.
Instead, Spock slipped a hand beneath the hem of Jim's shirt, rucking up the cloth until he was tracing patterns across a smooth expanse of golden skin. He flexed his hand, allowing his nails to scratch carefully along Jim's spine, and did not permit himself to consider reaching upwards, to Jim's face - or worse: downwards, beyond the waistband of his pants.
He wondered if Jim would have chosen this, had he known how very much Spock wanted.
Perhaps it was selfish of Spock to allow it.
Still, he could not force himself away - not when Jim's life was at stake. The kiss was his lifeline, and so the kiss must remain.
The touch of their minds, however, did nothing to aid Jim. It was solely for Spock's benefit, taken from Jim without his knowledge or intent.
That, Spock could end.
If Jim was to unknowingly place himself into the hands of someone who wanted more than he would wish to give, then Spock would take it upon himself to be his protector - even if the one he must protect against was himself.
And so, Spock opened himself to every offered touch, and girded his mind against every stray thought, until not a single wisp of golden energy could find its way past his defenses.
When Jim's thigh nudged its way between Spock's legs, Spock spread his stance wider, allowing him to press closer, and did not let himself feel. His hands grasped and squeezed at the soft flesh beneath them, drawing quiet gasps from a pink-flushed throat, and no pleasant hum buzzed against his fingertips, carrying with it the flavor of human emotion. Jim nipped at his lips and pet at his hair, and Spock pressed every scrap of yearning deep down within himself to where they couldn't emerge.
Eyes closed and spirit aching, Spock kissed him.

#WOW i have been slow about writing these again! um. sorry? it has been More Than A Month. (barely)#i also went waaaaay overboard again. someday i will learn how to be chill about things but today is evidently not that day.#this is perhaps not the INTENDED direction of the prompt (sorry) but it is in fact a distraction. just. not for either of them!#well. one Could argue that spock is getting quite distracted indeed. but that was somewhat incidental. Not Kirk's Intent.#star trek#star trek tos#tos#spirk#james t kirk#spock#k/s#ficlet#ask game#btw kirk is totally sitting there like 'i know spock can feel how in love with him i am. i hope i didn't destroy our friendship by saving#him but even at that cost it would be worth it. he can hate me as long as he's *alive* but also i don't want him to hate me :( .'#mutual idiocy as always!#i have two others to finish and (forgive me) i will try to be more normal about them and NOT make them anywhere near this long haha oops#because yeah this was. a bit unintentional length-wise. i got a little scrap of an idea and then it fucking BIT me and ran off#and i ever foolish decided to chase it#i... might? put this up on ao3 at some point? i DO think i'm more satisfied with it than i am with colorblind but.#i am shrimply a bit sad that i haven't actually finished any of my longer wips first. too slow and too distractable!#it's saurrr sad that my longest complete fic is less than 8000 words when i have MORE THAN ONE in-progress wip w/ more words than that.

please can you explain what kevins part of the deal wth andrew is because ive never really understood it and i feel like you probably get it
Okay. So. (tw; brief sh/suicide mention)
My understanding of Kevin and Andrew’s deal in the best way i can possibly explain it and HOPEFULLY i saw what i mean and it makes sense:
TLDR: Kevin promised to give him purpose, and Andrew’s waiting to see if that’s even possible.
There’s this part in TRK where Kevin tells Neil about their deal -
Tumblr media
I’ve seen a few posts about Andrew’s mental health recently - about how Andrew wanted to recover, how he wanted to survive.
I think it’s hard to imagine Kevin and Andrew’s relationship sometimes because we see so little of it aside from Kevin keeping his pills, but there’s this;
Tumblr media
I think it was Andrew who told him this. Andrew told Kevin that without his drugs he was destructive and joyless, in whatever context it was mentioned in. He told Kevin he had no ambition for life. (or because Neil says he tried to “remember her exact words” he talked to her? Read the files? But what are the chances of that?) I like to think that early on before they’d made their deal, Kevin asked him about his meds and Andrew told him. I think he’s quoting Andrew, who quoted his counsellor.
We know Andrew was struggling with self-harm. I know when Neil described Andrew’s scars as “up and down” his arm, it most likely means in a literal sense - from the top to the bottom of his forearm, but coupled with this;
Tumblr media
I wonder if Andrew’s depression led him to have a closer relationship with suicide than we think. He had 12 psychiatrists before Bee. What are the chances that all of them are from after Cass? (ie Andrew’s mental health journey started before her)
STICK WITH ME HERE.
Regardless of who told him what, I think a part of Kevin saw that Andrew having no purpose was dangerous. I think Andrew himself worried that without his meds he’d fall back into this rabbit hole of having nothing to live for, having no purpose, having no point to continue living. And Andrew wanted to survive. Any excuse to live was worth it. Even if he didn’t believe in it himself, even if he saw it was pointless - leaving us with:
Tumblr media
Going back to that first quote “he’s waiting to see if I can keep it.” If it’s even possible. It’s like finding tiny reasons to stay alive when you’re suicidal - I can’t kill myself because my favourite band might release new music. I can’t kill myself because my favourite tv show was cancelled, but there’s a chance it might come back. I’ll never hear my favourite person laugh again, I’ll never see the sunset again, there a chance that I’ll miss being an uncle, or I might miss my brothers wedding, or I might miss the invention of something life changing. My favourite band that broke up might get back together again - it’s unlikely, but I have to stay alive just in case.
Exy might be my purpose, and even if I don’t believe it, I still need something to live for.
So Kevin gave him something to live for. He believes in him.
Kevin was the first person to see any worth in Andrew - maybe since Cass, maybe ever - and Andrew knew that.
Tumblr media
So Andrew gave Kevin his game; even if he won’t play with Kevin because he thinks it’s funny or whatever.
When Kevin came to PSU, he needed a reason to stay, something that would make transferring to the team worth it. And he knew Andrew was worth it. He knew how Andrew could play, how he should be court. Sure, David was there, but Kevin stayed because of Andrew. Andrew offered him protection, and then gave Kevin a reason to believe in the foxes. Every other player might’ve been dog shit and not worth a second of Kevin’s time, not worth his talent, not worth investing in.
But Andrew was.
Andrew could be court.
If Andrew promised Kevin he would allow him to give him purpose in Exy, then that gave Kevin reason to stay. Does that make sense? Kevin wouldn’t have stayed infthe Foxes were actually the worst team in the league. But with Andrew there, they weren’t, and that was reason enough to stay.
Kevin sees Andrew’s worth - he sees what he can do to keep Andrew going, so when Kevin says “he’s waiting to see if I can keep it,” I think it’s Andrew waiting to see if he’s right. Can he actually give me a career out of this? A life out of this? Maybe it’s a lack of self worth on Andrew’s part. He clearly doesn’t care about how good he is. But does he know? Does he even believe it?
So he’s waiting for Kevin to keep his promise. To prove that he’s good enough. To prove that Exy can realistically actually be his purpose.
But Andrew both believes and doesn’t believe that that’ll ever happen. He’s a walking contradiction. On the one hand he says out loud, “im waiting for Kevin to give up,” but I don’t think he means: im fucking with him and don’t believe him. I think he means: im waiting for him to finally see in me what I see in me, which is somebody who isn’t worth it. It comes from a place of self doubt/lack of self worth. It comes from a place of not believing he actually has anything to live for. It comes from that self destructive instinct that he has.
Andrew wants to survive, but he doesn’t believe that he can.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Andrew’s deal with Kevin: I’ll keep you safe and give you a reason to stay*
Kevin’s deal with Andrew: I’ll give you purpose and something to live for*
*but neither of these things can exist without the other. Kevin won’t stay if Andrew doesn’t see that he’s good enough for Exy to be his purpose, if he doesn’t let Kevin prove he was right by believing in him. If he doesn’t, then Kevin can’t give him something to live for.
Kevin promised to give him purpose, and Andrew’s waiting to see if that’s even possible.
Does uh. That make sense?

MASSIVE SPOILER for one of the endings.
it's been a while since i tried looking, but i did hear that something like this happens last year and over time started to think, "was it a fluke?" bc no one posted footage or caps of it then, and i aimed for a completionist run in my first playthrough. turns out it's real! and definitely shines a new light on a character that, for most other types of playthroughs, will not give this much emotion! EDIT: transcript now included, and some stillshots under the cut
[0:28] Marie: Henry, this is the man who kept you from doing the right thing tonight. Kill him. [0:15] Forrest: Henry, you don’t have to do this. If you’ve not killed anyone yet, there’s still time to make the right decision. [0:05] Out of shot: (Gunshots) Henderson Police! Freeze! Marie: No! Henry, get out of there!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
#killer frequency#henry barrow#these hands………#so yes MORE spoilers and further commentary ahead here in the tags:#yes this is a fairly tragic ending if you already know how to get it. but again TERRIFIC VOICE ACTING BEFOREHAND AND AFTER.#feel free to reply in post if you want to ask about that part.#i didn't include that in the vid bc it's so visceral and raw but i love their performances. that shit hit hard dang.#but i want to ask anyone if their perspective on henry changes after seeing this? mine does tbh. i didn't expect a possible show of remorse#like at most hesitation! but bc of the context of forrest's dialogue- does it lean into remorse? a large definite shift in his mind!#even if he Has killed already then he's still taking forrest's words to heart and reconsidering everything which DAMN-#-my videogamey headcanon of forrest's character stats showing his Persuasion and Charm MAXED OUT is pulling tf through here!!#also can anyone reply re: would forrest's dialogue change but he still survives if henry kills maurice or murphy? or would forrest die?#and if the devs Actually gave henry other official kills in the game but didn't disclose them in the narrative- then is this the test?#like if henry kills AT ALL in game even though the player isn't privy to knowing which victims are his then is this ending unattainable?#also placing this scene/character moment behind THIS ENDING SPECIFICALLY heck that's cold. dang fellas.#going to eventually pull out a hc i've been holding back for a long time in a later post and i'll mention this scene again then-#-but this part in particular as well as another “easter egg” has really put more fuel to it

Lucy lives!au where both lucy and desmond are tensely sitting on the fact that Clay Told Desmond She Is A Templar and neither of them know how to approach this without outing that fact to everyone (Desmond does not want his dad to kill her)
OUGHHHH.
and the way it completely flips the little power dynamic they had going on. because whether desmond likes it or not, whether he wants it or not, lucy's life is now completely at his mercy. one wrong word and. well. they're called assassins for a reason. and while i think there's multiple stories in the series of assassins becoming templars, there's basically none about templars becoming assassins (or assassins again) which tells you about all you need to know about how willing they'd be to let a "traitor" back into their little gang.
and that's just got to feel terrible, right? especially now that desmond knows. if he can just read between the lines of what lucy has told him about vidic from her perspective, what clay has shown him about how she was turned. terrible awful moment of realizing that it's playing out all over again; only now lucy owes her life to him for not giving her over to the assassins. i don't think desmond would like that at all.
and like. to me there is zero question that part of the reason lucy latched onto desmond more than she was probably supposed to according to the whole templar double-agent plan was that he was someone she had a modicum of control over. she was very much in control of the flow of information to him, he owed her for getting him out of abstergo, and in all likelihood, she probably intended to protect him from them as best he could (a track record which does not reflect well on her! considering what happened to clay! but i really do think she intended to.)
so, that is gone. not only is that gone, but her world's been up-ended, again. she's not a quite a templar, not quite an assassin, and oh, right, the sun is still going to explode, and they barely know how they're going to stop it. desmond was in a coma for who knows how long, and now he looks at her different. he knows. and now they're all going to be in close proximity with his dad and her mentor who will not risk the whole world for either of them, shaun's still being twitchy about 'what if desmond was a templar spy' with no idea how close and how far off that assumption is, and there's also that fucking alien isu ghost lady who tried to kill her through desmond! not a fun time for lucy, all things considered.
and like despite that, i think the old dynamic they had still remains. desmond relies on lucy. she's now proven that she's a completely unreliable anchor to reality, but still, she's the one he's got. they started this animus shit together; they're gonna finish it together. lucy is still trying to pull the incredible balancing act of pushing desmond far enough to get what they need without breaking him entirely, something that's getting harder and harder by the day because like. three. well, no, four, huh. haytham, too. so four memory dives in, there's... if not damage, then a disconnect. between desmond and reality. that can't be undone, only managed.
everything that happens already leaves their little team so isolated from the outside world, but alsjdlksa i fucking love the idea of lucy & desmond being even isolated from the other assassins. terrible secret gang.
#the best gift i can give to any character set is to shoot them with the isolated codependency beams#i think. let lucy live and desmond has someone to bounce his thoughts off of for 'fuck what if the assassins *can't* handle this'#in a way that might be. like. a little productive?#because okay cool isu tech might save them. they also have no guarantees that it will beyond like. hope and ghost alien lady's words.#i don't think lucy could convince desmond that abstergo/the templars want what's best.#but i do think that they could both pull each other closer to a middle ground.#like. abstergo bad. but they also fucking live there. on the planet. if the solar flare happens they die too. so like.#clearly they also want to stop it. to what extent is probably the questionable bit! they'd probably let the majority of humanity#get scorched to preserve what they want.#but undeniably. they have resources the assassins do not. lucy knows what those resources are.#keep her in the game and desmond knows what plan B is. whether or not it even comes down to using it.#thinks about them trying to plot this. and that lingering tension between them that exists because lucy lied once and might be lying now#and desmond is choosing to trust her while there's a ghost of clay in the back of his head screaming at him that he's an idiot#and they can't let any of the others catch on to the fact that they're even *considering* abstergo's resources as a possibility.#ask#assassin's creed#lucy stillman#desmond miles#puts them in the worst situations <3 because i love them <3#also i think desmond and lucy should get to kill vidic together. catharsis.

Dead Girl And Rat Girl for the WIP ask game?
Dead Girl and Rat Girl, from this list of my wips here, as the name suggests is born entirely of the "Hi. How've you been?" "Rat. You?" "Dead." exchange. I really wanted to explore that space of Buffy and Amy similarly being dragged out of a terrible fate, dropped back into everyday life with minimal support to get through what happened to them and dealing with that by making some somewhat self destructive choices. Choices like Amy becoming Buffy's magic sort of drug dealer to help them both take the edge off. I also really hope that this working title does not become the actual title but I do have a lot of precedence of Adjective Girl(s) for episode titles so I could probably get away with it.
This is my newest wip so it's alas similarly short as but at least this one I'm not planning for it to be a full rewrite like 'S6 Kendra + Amy AU'. This one I just want to be a oneshot stretching at least as far as Older and Far Away.
The snippet here is near the beginning, the context being shortly post Wrecked Buffy's gone to visit Amy and make sure she's not going to be anywhere near Willow and more importantly Dawn but is getting a bit sidetracked by how much Amy's not handling everything.
Amy twists her neck and stares at something in the corner of her room that Buffy can’t make out, “Did you hear that?”
“Hear what?”
“That cat,” she somehow gets even more rigid, wraps her arms tighter around her knees “My dad says they don’t have one but I keep hearing it,”
“I don’t hear anything, Amy,” she doesn’t look convinced so Buffy adds “I’ve got pretty good hearing, all the better for Slaying,”
“Are you sure? No you wouldn’t lie to me, would you?” Her face cracks in half as she twists the corners of her mouth up into a smile. It’s almost like she doesn’t remember how to do it. Buffy looks away, uncomfortable with how familiar it looks, “I’m probably just be a bit on edge, don’t worry I can fix that,” Buffy looks back to see her pressing two fingers to her temple, swirling around them and into her head is a sparkle of magic she knows well from years of friendship with Willow. Slowly, Amy’s posture loosens, she lays back until she’s almost melting into the bed.
“Is,” Buffy’s mouth dries looking at how relaxed Amy looks “Is that what you did with Will?”
Amy nods casually, “Some of it anyway. One of the first spells I taught myself. I still can’t believe I found it in one of my mom’s spellbooks, maybe if she’d used it on herself she wouldn’t have been so her,” even with how loose she’s acting now there’s a seriousness that creeps into her voice as she adds “Thanks again for that,”
That covers a lot. But Buffy’s sure Amy wants to go over that as little as she’d want to go over what happened last year with her own mom. She just shrugs and says “It’s my job,”
“You want some?” her grin looks a lot more natural on her relaxed face as she wiggles her fingers at Buffy “You must be pretty tense too, not dead girl,”
Buffy stares at the outstretched hand. This wasn’t how she’d imagined coming over to confront Amy would go. She should’ve expected it. Peer pressure, she’d seen the PSAs, this must’ve been what had happened with Willow. What had made her do what she did, no matter what Amy said she knew Willow, she wasn’t like this. Buffy should just turn Amy down, leave and go back to her normal weird life.
But. She is tense. She’s been tense for months. Ever since crawling out of the ground. Her normal life isn’t exactly helping. And it might help. Not just her, but to know what was going through Willow’s head when she took Dawn for a joyride. And she’d be responsible, she was the Slayer, she’d not get up to any funny business.
She nods, before she can talk herself out of it, Amy grins reassuringly and presses her fingers to Buffy’s forehead.
It starts slowly, a tingle spreading from her head to her toes and fingertips. When her shoulders start to droop Amy shifts along to the side of her bed and pats the mattress for Buffy to join her.
Everything is still there. She’d still died. She’d still come back. Her mom was still dead. She still had bills to pay. A sister to look after. But there was something in between her and that, it felt like it’d been years since she’d just sat down. And now she was even laying.

1. for the choose violence ask game?
1. the character everyone gets wrong
ONE THOUSAND YEARS JAIL FOR TCW WRITERS for getting that absolutely GOLDEN layup in AotC and then NOT doing jack fuck with Dooku. They looked right at Christopher Lee's deliberately nuanced portrayal in that movie (within the script's and direction's limitations which were indeed very limiting. Have I ever mentioned that George wasn't too good at writing Dooku either?) and did NOTHING. They made him a Saturday evening cartoon guy in the Saturday evening cartoon and I am inconsolable
I cannot get over how they squandered his potential!! And Asajj's by extension, too. And why do I have to cling to CW 03 for any screentime of them both even just existing in the same room? Like genuinely do we ever see them physically next to each other? They're supposed to be master and apprentice bro something went terribly wrong here!!
Also to bend this back to the fandom and to beat a dead bloated decomposing horse: Obi-Wan. Novels have been written about his fanon alter-ego so I'll just say that most people actually write him just fine until any type of relationship emerges! Ppl want to swaddle this spiritual master and veteran shock formation leader in a blanket so bad they gotta nerf him to hell so someone can take loving care of the shadow of his former self lmao

20 or 49 and markland if you feel so inclined 🥰
i AM so inclined 💖 thank you!!!!
49. “It sounds like you’re trying to convince yourself.”
Eight months into eternity—or, rather, eight months after their flight from Kale Stoop and Leiland’s rather abrupt hiatus from serving the young Lord of Shadows—Leiland realizes he enjoys taking naps. He doesn’t precisely need sleep, and to say he dreams would be an overstatement, but there’s something pleasantly vulnerable in the act. It’s utterly lazy, indulgent in a way that must surely be unforgivable, but he finds himself sinking into the bed more afternoons than he would’ve imagined and simply... slipping away for a while.
And Markus likes it, though he hasn’t said so. He likes knowing that Leiland is holed away on his ship, where no one dares to interrupt his rest, and he likes having Leiland in his charge, peacefully oblivious to the chaotic world.
Mine, Leiland pretends not to hear him saying, drifting in the muddled almost-awake haze. Beautiful, perfect treasure. Mine. If he doesn’t hear it, he doesn’t have to remind Markus of his oaths. Leiland already belongs to someone else.
This afternoon is one such occasion. When he went to bed, the ship was making its careful way through a cloud bank. Now late afternoon sun floods the cabin, drowning the already sumptuous space in gold. Things started showing up when he took up this habit—plush blankets and overstuffed pillows fill every available crevice, wedged between chests of loot and stolen weapons and the half-dozen relics Leiland really has been meaning to send back to the Bloodkeep.
And on the singular chair—it’s not a large space, and it’s full of treasure besides—Markus lounges. His eyes are half-shut, his gaze warm as he takes in Leiland’s sprawled-out form. Everything feels slow and easy; he might’ve been there for hours. He does that sometimes.
“Yes?” Leiland asks, amusement bubbling in his chest. “Is there trouble, Captain?”
His mouth curls into a smile—Markus is still striking, even after months of exposure. The sunlight caresses his dark skin, presses along his jawline like a kiss, sits in his hair like a crown. “I’ve been thinking,” he says, which is always promising. The last idea he’d had...
Leiland clears his throat a little, willing down the clammy flush in his cheeks. “About?”
Markus’s smile takes on a sharper edge, for a moment, and Leiland knows he’s been caught. “About that, too,” he chuckles. “But not just that; you know, Leiland, you’d look so good in a crown.”
Leiland laughs. “I’ve left my circlet days behind me. Learned my lesson, as they say.”
“Think about it, though,” Markus says, leaning forward. The heat in his eyes makes Leiland’s breath catch. “Not like the old one. That wasn’t right. What about a new crown—I’m thinking white gold and topaz, they suit you, we can talk it over—and a new throne,” he’s closer now, one hand on the bedspread and the room really is getting warm, “and a kingdom just for you, Leiland.”
“What would I do with a kingdom?” Leiland laughs again, a little more breathless. “I’m no ruler—command doesn’t suit me.”
“Mm, it could,” Markus murmurs, like a promise. Somehow he’s left the chair entirely, graceful as he climbs into the bed, his body warm as he hovers over Leiland. A brief thought is spared for his fantastic arms, the tendons shifting as he holds himself up, but then his eyes are so close Leiland could drown in them.
“It couldn’t,” he whispers, Markus near enough to breathe the words in.
Markus, ambition embodied, only smiles and says, “It sounds like you’re trying to convince yourself.”
His mouth always burns against Leiland’s. It’s like drinking the sun, like hot metal pouring into a mold and becoming, every time—and Leiland doesn’t stop to remember his oaths, his sworn service, doesn’t stop to chide Markus for his lightly-treasonous teasing—and the room is warm and soft and gold, gold, gold.

Is there any proof that Curly got Jimmy the job? "He joined because of me." and "Someone's else's words in my mouth." sound to me more like he only gave him the idea to apply for a position using Pony Express' false promises without realizing. He sounds more regretful about becoming a recruiter for Pony Express against his own will. But it's talked about as though he literally hired him personally or pulled some strings with the Big Guys. When everything hints at Pony Express seeking out people like Jimmy specifically because someone who has a harder time on earth will be less likely to leave.
I feel like we can assume that Curly also put in a good word for him.
I think it’d be really interesting if that’s all it was because otherwise, that’s not something we can really fault him for. You bring up a good point in that if all he did was recommend he apply, then it was on P.E for hiring someone so unstable in such an important position. They are a very predatory company and a person like Jimmy is the exact type they like to take on and break into a ideal worker, obviously not in the vein of Curly or Anya but more like Swansea, resigned and okay with the monotony as long as there’s a paycheck at the end of the week/month.
I think it’s another thing people immediately fault him personally for despite it being left intentionally vague. That statement doesn’t mean he got him the job just the reason Jimmy is there is because of what he told him. Maybe he’s still partially to blame for putting the idea in his head to apply but you also can’t blame him for P.E deciding Jimmy was okay to be a pilot. I mean, looking back at the eval, Curly is shocked Jimmy is adjusting/adjusted well to the position. Those are not words of someone who was expecting their friend to be in that specific role, at least for as long Jimmy was.
Curly doesn’t have the power to hire Jimmy and seeing as he couldn’t even get corporate to listen to him about the cryo pods, a necessity, I think it’s actually more far fetched that he could use his title to get him hired in such a position. They were just filling a position with a candidate. The game subtly tries to show how little sway Curly actually has outside of the ship with the company in minor ways, so playing with the idea he’s still taking responsibility for what is ultimately a decision he couldn’t have ever really affect makes a lot of sense.

Okay okay okay soooo
I decided to test out the 📿 drama and omg 😭😭😭
Okay i shall rank them. I gta. All my romances:
4. I couldn't handle Min's nope. I retract i won't ever play that again... well maybe especially considering the drama in the next chapter and them seeing MC and a certain vampire in the same space might be alil entertaining lol but god it made me too sad. They are too sweet. Nope can't handle it.
3. A's reaction made me laugh. Legit comparison??? I died. That was so funny. Like it's even unfathomable to consider.
2. Gen's i wasn't expecting to love gens so much. Like the denial and the reference to watching another kid play with something you want. I died 😭
1!!!!! Maples my love!! Omg the anger. The wanting to slam shit aaaaaahhhhh. So contradictory to their whole vibe i adored it! Gimme 20 more!!
An's was definitely an experience, because it didn't occur to me how prideful they can be! 😒 Why would you want a vampire when you can have a god?? Hello???
I'm glad you liked them- or just took the time to actually go through them all 😭 Talk about commitment.
Note: I've been made aware of an issue in An's route. I might have forgotten a tag or variable that needed changing and will fix that shortly!

for the wip ask!! who is origins 👀 she’s intriguing …
Ah, Origins. Or as I like to call it, Why Am I Doing This. Or alternatively, The Latest Baby in the My Own Personal Goncharov Series.
Basically what happened was I made these silly mockup posters for an in-universe HBO show about Steve's life pre-ice, and then the lovely @booksandabeer made a joking comment in the tags of her reblog about me writing the script for it. And I saw that and thought, "Haha! Yeah, that'd be fun. Would be nice to write a script again. I'm not actually gonna do that though I don't have the time and it's definitely an insane thing to do anyway". And went to bed without a care in the world. And then, well. It Compelled Me for like a month straight. Both because I'm always thinking about just how much better those movies could've been lol, but in this case more specifically the story-within-a-story element, considering that that's already a major part of the whole Steve Rogers vs. Captain America dichotomy.
Anyway flash forward, I'm manically layering post-its on my desk trying to map out the timeline and structure and style for this fucking fake meta Emmy bait-esque biography miniseries (say that five times fast) and its in-universe ripples. It's still in its very early stages and slow going so I don't wanna jinx myself out of getting at least the first "episode" actually done lol, but basically: the series itself is supposed to be around 5-6 45-minute episodes that span Steve's life concluding with the Valkyrie crash. I'm currently playing with the idea of making it a not-strictly-linear narrative with each of the episodes possibly centering around a different theme/aspect, but we'll see. It's also supposed to be a little too dramatized and not a 100% accurate, but close enough to the real thing that it attracts some mixed opinions from the general public as well as Steve himself. Which is really the toughest part right now, because I've decided it means having to a) settle on some kind of outline of what's supposed to be the "real" course and nature of events in the first place and separate it from how the "real" Steve remembers those events, and b) then figure out the context of when this is being made and released in-universe, who this filmmaker is, what their sources/influences would be and how they'd frame it all, and with what goal in mind.
So. I have no idea who this is for honestly or what I'm doing with it, exactly, but. I might've gotten too invested. There are playlists and pinterest boards and possibly a bible. It's all great fun, and it also makes me scream internally because whyyy.

🎇In a world that often seems to demand perfection, it’s important to remember that your imperfections are what make you beautifully human. You don’t have to have it all together all the time; it’s okay to stumble and to take your time finding your footing again. Life’s about growth, not just success, and every time you pick yourself up after a fall, you’re becoming stronger, more resilient, and more compassionate. Embrace your journey, with all its ups and downs, knowing that each moment is shaping you into someone truly remarkable🎇
Aww thank you so much anon!😭🫂 sending the same message back to you! Remember you are important and every day is a step forward towards your goal, whichever that may be!
Embrace the void and have the courage to exist.
