One and a half hours and 20 unorganized layers later I conclude that Arcane art style is hard. But imagine if TCW looked like this

Hey, can you explain how you do the arcane art style? I kinda want to try drawing star wars characters in it too

I watched this video for some tips, it would've been really hard to pull off at all without these insights.

I think the gist of Arcane-style character portraits is:

No outlines, but some cartoony linework within the silhouette to distinguish facial features

Saturated colors

Geometric shapes! This is something I kinda flunked so far. I feel like some features need exaggeration or more "edge", especially if you're referencing an irl actor (might be less of a problem if the reference is a TCW character model)

Prominent eye bags and under-eye highlights

Hair needs to look kinda chunky, since it's not painted onto the characters in the show like the skin details are

Judicious use of the blending tool. You need to blend a lot but also preserve a certain ruggedness. If that makes sense. Can't look too smooth

To draw Dooku like that, I referenced a picture of Christopher Lee and eventually erased most of that sketch layer. Shading on a multiply layer (or two. or three) really helped me out as well. The process was a mess and made me intermittently hate myself but I wish you the very best! :D

Thank you! The pencil mustache really gives it away :D I needed someone with an old hollywood sort of air that also matches Dooku's vibe, so Vincent Price makes for good inspiration there!
