Saying "I'm just a girl" to excuse your behaviour IS CRAZYYY since the original No Doubt song was about women's rights. Get your shit together and be a feminist!!!

what really irks me is when upper middle class people act like artificially adopting the so-called “crust aesthetic” exempts them from the politics of the subculture, and, y'know, actually giving a shit about poor people.
i saw someone on pinterest say that they want to wash their crust pants, but don't because "it's part of the aesthetic"...
the reason why crust pants were unwashed to begin with is because the first crust punks were(and many still are!!) homeless and/or transient folk who literally did not have access to consistent methods of cleaning themselves or their clothes. and for some reason now people think looking or being "smelly" is the most important part of the subculture, more important than listening to the music or engaging with their scene and community.
obviously i don't care about people who don't wash their pants because they don't have the energy or spoons to, or who simply don't want to, but the idea of someone struggling to keep themselves from washing their clothing so they can be more "crust punk" really pisses me off.
these are people who have never known financial or housing insecurity. they dare to call themselves a crust punk when they still scrunch their noses at the smell of need, or feel threatened by the sight of homeless people on the subway.
i just have to wonder: do they think choosing to be “crusty” absolves them from the guilt of their financial privilege? does it make the differences between themselves and the lower classes less stark because, hey, they can “dress like a hobo” too!
it absolutely doesn’t. if you want to be a better punk, donate to mutual aid, pick up trash in your neighborhood, volunteer at soup kitchens and food pantries, give food and money to people you see sleeping on the side of the street or scrounging in the trash for a meal. find some grindcore artists on bandcamp, go to a local show, do anything other than posing as something you're not.

Isn't it funny how the whole concept of the punk rock movement was to escape stereotypes and labels and to promote the inclusivity of all people and the lovely things that make them different?
Yet, in the process... they labeled themselves, afflicted themselves with one of the most crippling stereotypes and became one of the most non inclusive and gatekeeping groups of all time. Most punk rockers spend more time debating what the definition of "punk" is, and kicking those out of the scene who don't fit their own personal definition, than they do actually chasing their own ideals.
And it's sad. I love the punk rock movement in concept... but the reality is very different.
In my studies and observations, I feel that punk was never about fighting for one specific thing. Punk was about radical individuality and accepting yourself the way you are. It was about fighting the system. It was about bonding together over music and fashion and culture so tightly that they could never break us apart. Yes, punk is a political movement, but it's not just about ONE political belief. It wasn't about what you believed but rather HOW you believed it.
The Ramones and the Sex Pistols were both right wing bands. The Clash was left wing. There's videos of punks from the eighties, the OGs, talking about being conservative and fighting for right wing politics. And in actuality, the whole idea was built on Anarchy anyway, not this dividing, ostracizing, black and white mindset that modern day American politics uses to turn us against each other and make us weak.
Are you fighting for what you believe in? Are you out there being bold and raising hell and never compromising or selling out? Fighting for the greater good of humanity, whatever that is to you? That's punk rock to me. Unfortunately, the new generation of punk rockers doesn't see things that way. Which is alright with me, I suppose. The title isn't worth enough to me to argue with my brothers and sisters over it. I'm just here to rock out and throw up the finger at the Man.
I never wanted the labels anyway.
In summary, punk's not dead. Just confused.

I'm not blindsided by much, I'm not easily shocked or rattled. But after seeing that Walmart now sells Misfits T-shirts, I had to go breathe into a paper bag for a bit.

More than 1% of the Gaza population has been killed by Israel. It's about 25 700 people. Mostly women and children. The historical patrimony is being destroyed. Gaza's culture, identity and people are being methodically eradicated. Say it. It's a genocide. Genocide.
Israel is genociding Palestinians.
It's a genocide.
Support Palestinians. If you can donate, then donate. I can't. But what I can do is sending this link:
One click a day. Nothing more. It helps raising money for the people.
Make noise. We have a mouth and we shall scream.
Follow her:
Bisan Owda is living the genocide and fighting every day for information. Never. Stop. Making noises.
Be the punk, the riot grrrrl, that kills the mood.

So much of what society treats as a joke is just mocking disability. Their idea of lazy is a disabled person trying to survive, whether that be living with their parents as an adult or using pre prepared food. Cringe culture is based entirely around mocking neurodivergent people and their interests. Symptoms and characteristics of disability such as urgency issues, drooling, tremors, tics, strabismus and speech impediments are used as cheap punchlines.
In children’s tv shows disabled characters such as those with speech impediments are treated as a joke, with symptoms of disability being portrayed as synonymous to stupid.
This idea is being taught from a young age in the media and it’s engrained into our language and culture. This goes beyond jokes, it contributes to the alienation of people with disabilities.
Once you start noticing these things you realise how constant and normalised it is.
Reducing an entire person to a punchline is wrong. Using a disability symptom as an insult is wrong. It’s disturbing how normalised it is to not treat people with basic decency and respect.

What a lot of abled people don't understand is that when you get more sick as someone who was already physically disabled/chronically ill, you don't get the sympathy, you don't get people sending you cards and coming to visit and help you with things. Everyone just kind of assumes that you can handle it, that it's not *really* anything new. Maybe people might acknowledge it for a week or two, but then to them it's just normal. You were already sick, so why would being a little more sick be disruptive to you, right?
