"Angry robin" "violent robin" "misbehaving robin" shut up and accept my alternative; spunky Robin. Determined and head strong, can out-stubborn the Batman, has a strong moral-backbone and does what he thinks is right regardless of what anybody else says, Robin. Jason who was sassy and quippy and made crude jokes with a smile on his face. Jason who hid in Bruce's cape and whispered gossip to him. Jason who, if Bruce refused him something, could keep bothering endlessly until Bruce caved. And also dramatic Jason. If Bruce tells him no, it becomes a whole theatrical show; a monologue, a narration, embellishments, and falling onto the floor in his grief upon the fact his cruel father has denied him once again.
(Jason who has suffered through abuse and homelessness and poverty and starvation, who is the Fight out of Fight or Flight, who's built up defenses and walls and when pushed and triggered responds with the thing that's always protected him; anger. He's sweet and kind and funny, and when he sees a pimp hitting a prostitute he gets furious and responds with violence.)
#my dc posting#dc#jason todd#jaybin#im having so many thoughts abt jaybin and he is so important to me#in one fic he went on a hunger strike bc alfred didnt eat w them and did it for so long they had to compromise#i love a jaybin 100% willing to menace and bother batman until the man folds. as is his right#the thing abt jason's backstory is that it shows him unwilling to suffer for a home#ma gunn's is bad; he gets beat up and she tries to get him to help rob a place. so he leaves! and rats the whole thing out to batman#and shows up himself cus he didnt think he had been believed#and lets not forget the fact he hit batman with a tire iron and called him a 'big boob'!#the boy's got moxie!! let jaybin be crass and angry and sassy and flawed and traumatized without reducing him to 2d caricature of a 'troubl#d kid'#i dont like a jason who did nothing but use excessive violence and disobey orders and be cocky and all that shit#i like a jason who was. oh yknow. a complex person!! a child/teen who has been fucking abused!!!#you shouldnt erase the fact that jason's reaction/response to stressful situations and triggers IS anger#it's not an indication that he was always gonna become a criminal/red hood or whatever. get outta here w that shit#but like. let us not go so far in the other direction we forget to have him react and be affected by the abuse he's suffered#anyway. if anyone should be a drama-queen it should be jaybin. once he becomes truly comfortable w bruce he should dial it up to 11#a lot of red hood's appeal (to me&many others) is that he is an 'imperfect' victim. meaning he is angry and flawed and doesnt suffer quietl#but is loud and obvious abt it#so when i see jaybin written as the opposite its like. man whats that about#anyway. jaybin is good and cares and wants to help and protect people. and by god if i ever see anybody writing#him having arguments with bruce about the no kill rule WHILE robin again im gonna throw hands istg-#my tags are like a hidden treasure box. most of what i say is in here lmao

Anyway if you really wanna see me go off later remind me to talk about the fucking assholes trying to blame economic problems on immigration rather than the temporary foreign worker permits because I learned about that last week and I am MAD
Wild how literally every problem plaguing Canada at the moment boils down to corporations saying “hey would you mind if we just don’t follow these labour laws” and the government saying “yeah sure”
Fucking absurd
(Short form: immigrants pay taxes and contribute to the local economy and are basically free adults and workers you did not have to pay childcare or wait for them to grow up and are great
Temporary foreign worker permits were issued to bail out companies who “couldn’t find” local labour - because they refused to offer reasonable wages or benefits, or just plain didn’t want to risk Canadians calling out unsafe labour practices - and let them “temporarily” bring in people from other countries who do not know our labour laws and would accept worse conditions
They’re also not allowed to properly apply for permanent visas and shit to become immigrants because The Bullshit™️ levels are off the fucking charts. Come over to be exploited but oh you’re not allowed to stay?
This is why no one could find a job despite all the places “hiring” in 2022 and SO MANY companies are finally being fined for abusing the system but not enough to make them fucking stop)

Harlan County, USA is a 1976 American documentary film covering the "Brookside Strike",[1] a 1973 effort of 180 coal miners and their wives against the Duke Power Company-owned Eastover Coal Company's Brookside Mine and Prep Plant in Harlan County, southeast Kentucky. It won the Academy Award for Best Documentary at the 49th Academy Awards.
It was directed and produced by filmmaker Barbara Kopple, then early in her filmmaking career. A former VISTA volunteer, she had worked on other documentaries, especially as an advocate of workers' rights.

happy birthday!! umm how about hallucifer (or actual lucifer, whatever you prefer) reacting to gadreel possessing sam? 💞
(oh! i do have a little bit longer fic about this concept too in case you're interested!)
They must be desperate if they're setting Lucifer free to find Sam, and from one look at Crowley's beaten grimace and Dean's bloodshot eyes to the Mark on his arm and Castiel's very conspicuous absence, they have tried everything before him.
If they'd come to him first, Lucifer could have fixed this all in a week, the damage in Sam's body and the chaos up in Heaven, but now, he has to do twice the work. Lucifer tracks his wayward brother down and pins Gadreel down with wings raised high to menace, and says, very softly, "Let my beloved vessel"—shiver of Sam's soul like he can sense Lucifer's grace—"go, little brother, you don't want to fight me for him"—leaning in to let the words sink into Gadreel's grace with all the weight of the threat they carry—"because I will win."
(birthday 3 sentence ficathon! come toss a prompt!)

All-Star Comics (1940) #8, published in October 1941
#this is pretty striking for a comic story from 1941#it would be a stronger story if she was motivated to sacrifice her ‘eternal life’ and ability to come back home to Paradise Island#for more than just love for a man she’s only known while he’s unconscious#because she herself is not characterized as being motivated by feminist ideology#and it stands out that the goddesses task the Amazon’s champion with protecting America#which is ‘the last citadel of democracy and of equal rights for women’#from ‘the forces of hate and oppression’#as opposed to improving America by bringing Amazonian ideology to it#as I’ve sometimes seen portrayed in more modern media#though of course this is getting close to when the U.S. would join WWII#when criticizing the government and other official institutions would have been definitively off-limits#and Hippolyte does say she will ‘fight for liberty and freedom and all womankind’#I’m surprised that Diana is only known as ‘daughter’ and ‘princess’ on the island#and is only given the name Diana when she’s about to leave#I do like the emphasis that ‘in a world torn by the hatreds and wars of men- appears a woman’#it’s also interesting that Diana is ‘as wise as Athena- with the speed of Mercury and the strength of Hercules’#instead of her abilities being totally gender-segregated as they are with the Marvel Family characters#noting that Diana is said to be ‘as lovely as Aphrodite’#which is not incomparable to Mary having the ‘beauty of Aurora’ as one of her ‘powers’#also there’s a lot of emphasis in Mary Marvel’s WWII-era stories about her being dismissed or underestimated because she’s a girl#and her proving that wrong#but never any direct language about women’s political rights#dc#diana prince#hippolyta#my posts#comic panels

Monkey King Episode 8 (Part 2/2)
*BUSTS THROUGH THE DOOR* All right, time to finish this!
It's been two days since I watched this episode let's see what stuck.
"The Six-Eared Macaque has six ears! Isn't he really cute?"
Ginseng Fruit thinks Six Ears is cute. Canon.
Okay, so. The fake bunny ears? Absolutely adorable. Holy shit. These kids are the cutest. Jade Rabbit's body dysmorphia is probably on a level to qualify as the full disorder, and that's less cute and more sad and distressing, but it's so nice this attempt at comforting her worked and they were able to make her feel a little better about it.
Stone Monkey was so worried about her, too! Six Ears was clearly only there as emotional support (desperately needed, because Stone Monkey was not doing okay) since he had no idea who she was and Ginseng Fruit just didn't like her, but Stone Monkey probably would have started ripping the island apart stone by stone to find her if they hadn't managed to coax her out. He was worried! And emotionally unstable about it! Ginseng Fruit losing their patience and insulting her got them attacked.
Like, it took Marshal Ma a multi-episode timespan to wear Stone Monkey down enough to have him almost lunging for Marshal Ma's face. Ginseng Fruit got there in about two sentences. Even Six Ears was pretty alarmed about it. (Six Ears trying to comfort an angry and distressed Stone Monkey by cautiously reaching out to touch his shoulder from an entire arm's length away is very monkey of him. I just had to note that.)
Also that thing again of Stone Monkey's genuine anger being pretty violent. And how much quicker he is to lose it if the ones you're jabbing sticks at are his friends and not him.
I can't even really blame Ginseng Fruit for being upset they were spending so much time and energy checking on Jade Rabbit, since from Ginseng Fruit's perspective she was actively trying to hurt/kill the two of them nearly since Ginseng Fruit met her. They have reason to not like her and not want Stone Monkey around her. Still not the time or place, but their concern and frustration was understandable!
From Stone Monkey's perspective, what's a little attempted murder between friends, I guess? They had a Bash Brothers bonding moment against the Demon King's army before Jade Rabbit's headwrap was knocked off and she panicked, so clearly it's all square now. She was just upset! She didn't even manage to actually hurt them! It's fine! It's also possible he blames Ginseng Fruit for Jade Rabbit being angry at all, since if Ginseng Fruit had just stayed away from him like Stone Monkey had wanted them to, and hadn't tagged along, they never would have had a chance to run their mouth and set her off. Which isn't really fair, but. Stone Monkey barely seems to tolerate Ginseng Fruit at this stage of their relationship and that was true even before all this went down. I'm not sure he would be fair. Especially not when they're shouting insults his already hurting friend might be able to hear.
Six Ears got them to work it out, of course, but I definitely noticed that Ginseng Fruit's tears weren't even enough to rock that look of utter disdain until Six Ears scolded Stone Monkey about it.
(Ginseng Fruit: *sobbing*
Stone Monkey: Suffer.
Six Ears: Hey. Hey, isn't it funny how all your friends keep getting sad around you?
Stone Monkey: 😟*🎶SHOT THROUGH THE HEART🎶*)
Six Ears really did go for the throat, though. Jade Rabbit wasn't even Stone Monkey's fault! Don't imply it is! He'll believe it if it comes from you!
I thought it was pretty funny and cute though, that Six Ears apparently just took it upon himself to carry Ginseng Fruit around while they were accompanying Stone Monkey. Looking at all of this though, it might also have been him just trying to keep Ginseng Fruit alive. He put Ginseng Fruit down for FIVE SECONDS and in the next scene they're picking a fight with an already upset Stone Monkey and almost getting their skull crushed in. They were right back on Six Ears's hip in the next shot lol. Can't take these guys anywhere.
But in reality it was probably just Six Ears's self-appointed Monkey Kinda-Maybe-Prince Boy Scout babysitting reflexes kicking in. He accompanied an upset Stone Monkey to go find this other friend of his, saw this little guy with tiny little legs trying to keep up with them (and especially Stone Monkey who was probably not in the mood to slow down or have Ginseng Fruit on him), and just scooped without a second thought. And Ginseng Fruit likes him! At least if their comment about Six Ears being cute later is anything to go by. You have a stalwart fan now, Six Ears. You carried them, spoke up for them a bit, and now they will die for you. Ginseng Fruit does nothing by halves.
This episode had so much character relationship building in it. I loved it a lot. The actual editing of the episode was a bit more like a fever dream or like the guy storyboarding it hadn't slept in a week, so I hope they're all right, but the writing was hitting all the beats. It was so good. Easily my favorite.

THIS is how strikes should be. If your strike steals from regular people (strands them, forces them to pay for hotels/alternate transportation, makes them lose out on appointments, etc., which no one ever takes responsibility for) then you've made them your real victims and you are not on the right side of things, and you don't deserve their support.
It's so easy to say "support strikers at all costs because they're always right," but they are not. The people who say this are the people who aren't in a position to be severely, negatively impacted by the strikes. They're people who are just sitting at home.
Sure, it's not every strike in every industry that has this issue. Grocery chains might not be a problem (as long as there are reachable alternatives). Mail/shipping services might but have this problem (as long as no one needed expedited services for some critical reason). But public services like medical care or transportation? You can't take those away from people without creating victims and possibly serious financial burdens.
If your strike doesn't include provisions to properly compensate these people - whether you force your employer to do it (they won't if they can help it!) or whether it's out of your own pockets - then you are not working as part of a community.
If you want public support, then you must also protect the public. If your striker propaganda is that "the employer is responsible for the strike," then make them responsible all the way, and make full compensation for your victims a non-negotiable part of your demands.
Yeah quiet quitting is great and all but have you tried chaotic working?
Like. I remember back in my grocery store cashier days I did so much crazy shit.
When WIC (Women, infants, and children voucher program to help low income mothers/families with children) people were in my line I would pretty much know who they were. Before the cards they had to tell us upfront they were WIC and show us their vouchers for what they were allowed to get (it was awful some times. Like. 2 gallons of milk. $4 worth of vegetables etc etc). They’d always have items hanging back, waiting to see what the total was and if they would have to take it off the belt.
I began to place the fruits/vegetables a certain way on the register scale so that like 1/2lbs of grapes read as like .28lbs or something. Then act shocked when I said that they still had X amount of lbs left. They got all their fruit and vegetables.
I think it started to kinda? Catch on to the women? Because I would have the same moms in my line month after month. And even after they switched to the cards (they worked like food stamp cards?) I’d still do the same thing. They were able to get more produce for whatever shitty max amount Indiana gave them.
Anyways. Be chaotic. It’s more fun that way.

Through my actions alone, my Grandma & my Best Friend have both touched hundreds of lives.
What I mean is:
On top of every good thing a person has ever done themselves, if their example in my life made me a better person, then their wisdom, kindness & spirit of love for others will live on forever in any lives I can touch.
I just can't imagine a more important force to be in the world than "someone who makes you want to be kind."
i think what bothers me about a lot of "girl power" narratives is that they function on the implicit idea on the idea that women can become worthy of respect. and i happen to think that really caring about women means believing they already are worthy of respect. that historical seamstresses and soccer moms and forgotten sisters and sweet polite little girls and someone's weird grandma matter just as much as the warriors and politicians, even if they, personally, never accomplish anything "cool."
