Gideon proposes to Kremy after the Krew settles down.

He forges the rings himself (many failed attempts happened, but Gideon is anything but a quitter), got them enchanted (one is cold, one is hot), and he saves up money to take Kremy on the most extravagant date he's ever been on.

He gets all dressed up, Gricko, Frost, and Torbek all hype him up. They take a nice walk, go to a fancy restaurant, do some other cute lovey dovey shit. Kremy is throughly swooned. And when they go back home, in front of all their friends, Gideon proposes to him, "I didn't do it right the first go around, will you let me have the honor of marrying you, for reals this time?"

Kremy, obviously, says yes

look. listen. this is a man who was raised by two very beautiful very elegant femme lesbians. he was son boy allowed. you either understand me or you don't there is no further coherent justification for this i just KNOW. that this is TRUE

(also as i blabbed on twitter: i think his moms are very, VERY loving and accepting. they nurtured his innate curiosity and laid the foundations for his insane future educational career but they never pushed the idea of the genius society of him; they just wanted him to see him grow up well, flourish, and lead a happy life. that whole mess was actually the byproduct of his teachers, tutors, and professors - all of whom he started seeing more often than his mothers by the time he was starting to poke at his first phd. he's fallen out of touch with them over the years, only calling them sporadically and seeing them at various award ceremonies he doesn't want to go to. not out of resentment or anything - more like he's just so, SO busy he barely has time to take care of himself [one of the many good lessons they imparted on him, and one he actually won't be letting go of any time soon], much less maintain old relationships and foster new ones. also, even though they never expected anything of him beyond "be good and do good," the shame and disappointment and guilt he felt when he realized nous would never turn THEIR gaze upon him still made it so hard to face them.

they aren't angry. they still love him dearly, and he is their son. they know his eccentricities and process for dealing with things better than anyone. they know he'll drift back to them, slowly, in his own way. they're patient. they're very proud of him. when the day comes that he finally does return home for a proper visit [maybe with a certain sly little blonde fox in tow], it's like he never left.)

How they Propose (Xiao, Dainsleif, Zhongli)

Let’s go with the hardest first

It is so hard to imagine Xiao proposing, if I’m honest. He’s not the kind to do research on human traditions and rituals

But if he did it was because Zhongli mentioned it or because you did

Once it came up and once he gave it some thought (and probably consulted someone more knowledgeable), he’d propose

His proposal would be something super simple. Even though he would totally want to do right by you, the guy is pretty direct and his proposal would reflect that

Maybe on a warm summer’s night he’d take your hand a slip the ring on your finger while asking. He totally blushes and definitely stumbles over his words but is visibly happy when you agree

Dainsleif

Dain is also a hard one

You had to bring it up and when you did he kinda tilted his head and was like “huh? marriage? What for?”

I mean, he’s been alone long enough he’d be the kind to really not think about it until someone else mentioned it

You weren’t mad at the reaction per se, but you walked off to let him think it over

And he did. He spent a lot of time thinking over it, trying to figure out where to get a ring--it’s not like he can ask an abyss herald or anything-- and working through how people do the marriage thing this many years after the downfall of Khaenri’ah

When he proposes, you’ve all but forgotten about the conversation, so you’re pleasantly surprised when he takes a knee and asks you to marry him

Unlike Xiao he’s super formal about it. As the Twilight sword, he’s no stranger to ceremony and formality and as direct as he is, you’re worth it

He’s actually scared when you don’t reply immediately, but gives you a rare wide smile when you accept

Zhongli

This guy has his shit together

Like, I still don’t entirely how his “those who renege on their contracts face the wrath of the rock” thing  works in a relationship but he’s not nearly as... inexperienced with people as Dain and Xiao are

100% done according to Liyue tradition. What that tradition is, I have no idea, but I can imagine it being  a warm spring evening

The two of you are on a walk enjoying the wonderful weather when he leads you to a less visible place (Can’t see him letting others see what should be an intimate moment)

When he’s sure that the two of you won’t be disturbed, he gets down on one knee and pops the question

When you say yes he gives you one of his amazing close-eyed smiles

He’s lived for 6000 years, but this is going to be one off the memories he treasures most

So basically my Ghosts neurodivergence headcanons at this point are: Sam, ADHD; Pete, autism; Patience, OCD; Sass and Hetty, depression; and Isaac, uhh.... is in Cluster B somewhere (I say vaguely so as not to be misunderstood, but to be clear, personality disorders are really just a collection of deeply ingrained coping mechanisms and the fact that I can recognize this in Isaac is actually something I like about him!). Not to mention, all of the ghosts have PTSD to some extent, if not from traumas that happened in life, then from the memory of actually literally dying.

But the thing I find most interesting has to do with Flower, because her neurodivergence is mythology-specific. She wasn't an addict or anything in life, she just happened to be very, very high when she died, and now, as a ghost, she is permanently under the influence of drugs. Her brain does not work the same way it did when she was alive, and that's just something she has to live with now. It's just a really interesting angle on neurodivergence to me.

It also makes me wonder about Trevor, who died of an overdose. They're not specific about what he took and I don't personally know what kind of shit rich finance bros take, but just based on how he behaves I feel like it's not too much of a stretch to say he's a little more... wired? all the time? than he maybe would have been in life? Idk.

Also Alberta: she didn't seem like she was actually drunk before she got poisoned, but maybe the moonshine worked its way into her system as the strychnine did. Maybe she's a little bit tipsy all the time!

Referencing your tags, would you please elaborate of ableism in fandom and, like you said, how fandom treats characters with unpalatable disabilities?

TL;DR A fear of writing characters of highly marginalized identities shields you from criticism and discomfort, but it's actively stigmatizing to people of these identities and as a writer you really need to get over yourself and write The Icky People.

I guess I'll come out swinging on this one and say that fandom doesn't like severe mental illness. (As a note, when I say severe mental illness (SMI) I mean illnesses such as psychotic disorders, bipolar disorder, substance use disorders, personality disorders, etc)

Obviously, nobody likes people w/SMI. It's just insanely egregious in fandom to me, since fanfic writers absolutely love writing characters or HC characters with depression, anxiety, or a specific variety of PTSD That Isn't Scary. People actively reject any character HCs for a SMI. When people write a character with SMI, they nicely downplay it, ignore it, substitute it for a disorder they like better, or rewrite it. It's completely untolerated, in both headcanons and in fanfiction, and every time I bring it up I always get the most interesting reasons why somebody couldn't possibly acknowledge a character's SMI in their writing. I've heard all of these:

"I don't know enough about the disorder to write it accurately." Do research.

"I'm not X, so I can't really depict it." You probably aren't a cis white man, but you depict those guys just fine.

"It feels insulting to the character." There is no shame in having a SMI.

"I can't understand what it's like, so it's better to be cautious and avoid giving characters stigmatized identities." There are LOTS of experiences that you'll never understand because you've never had them - you just don't want to write anything you're uncomfortable with. People with SMI make you uncomfortable, and you don't want to write anything that makes you feel uncomfortable, or think of a comfort character in an uncomfortable way. SMIs are marginalized differently than solely depression/anxiety/The Nice PTSD, and by refusing to write them you're actively contributing to the stigma.

I think (?) I've spoken in the past about how I believe that the rigorous external and internal policing of writing people of marginalized identities is actively harmful towards efforts to increase diversity of experience and background in fiction. A lot of fanfiction writers are just terrified to write people who they can't directly relate with, because they're worried 'they'll get it wrong' and be Big Cancelled. I think this is negative enough when it prevents people from going outside of their comfort zone, but on a macro level I think this results in people refusing to write characters of marginalized identities as all. It's an insidious thought process, and it's reflected in people's unwillingness to diversity their writing or acknowledge canon diversity.

'Well, I don't understand what it's like to be Black, so I don't want to write Black people'. 'I want to project on this character, so I only want to write them with mental illnesses and identities I have'. 'If I write a marginalized character incorrectly people will yell at me, so I won't write a marginalized character who's marginalized differently than me at all'. Can you imagine writing a lesbian character with a boyfriend because 'you feel uncomfortable writing lesbian experiences'? It's blatantly homophobic. But people do that with disability and race/ethnicity ALL THE TIME.

People with SMI notice that you feel uncomfortable with them. It's obvious. They notice when a character has a SMI + anxiety, and you only write their anxiety. They notice when a character displays symptoms of a SMI in canon, but you write it out. And POC notice when the characters of color are written out. I know we all like to project on the blorbos and relate to them, and in the joys of your own head do whatever, but as a writer if you only stick to identities you're comfortable with you are actively being a worse writer. Which to me is the REAL sin lmfao.

Dried blood. Stone dust. The roof of her lab, and visible through it, the sky. That was bad. Everything felt hazy, incomplete.

There was pain, somewhat faint and fuzzy, reanimated nerves panicking all through the left side of her body. Everything on her right, meanwhile, was numb. She tried moving, scrabbled the stiff fingers of the hand she could feel against the rubble beneath her.

Something was wrong. She couldn't think clearly. There was a hole in her head. What had happened? She had been- she had been-?

After a few tries, she managed to brace her hand against the ground; found the strength in dead muscles, somehow, to lever herself clumsily upward. Once partly upright, though, alarm bells sounded inside her head, increasingly urgent- something was very wrong with her balance, her center of gravity. She sagged to one side, nearly collapsed to the ground again.

Something was missing. Something was wrong. All the sensations in her body seemed confused. It was very hard to move.

She cast her head around, disoriented and confused, and caught the reflection of her movement in a glass-fronted cabinet against the opposite wall. She froze, stared until she could parse out what was wrong with her own silhouette.

Ah. That explained why she couldn't feel anything on her other side.

Half of her was missing.

One arm. One leg. Her innards spilling out of her bisected torso. Only half of her face.

She looked around, holding her fragile head upright with her one remaining hand, but she couldn't see any scattered limbs, no fingers or hair beneath the chunks of debris.
