Judgment on Israel's Neighbors
1 The words of Amos be these, that was in the shepherds’ things of Tekoa, which he saw on Israel, in the days of Uzziah, that is, Azariah, king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam, son of Jehoash , king of Israel, before two years of the earth-moving. (These be the words of Amos, a shepherd from Tekoa, what he said about Israel, in the days of Uzziah, the king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam, the son of Jehoash, the king of Israel, two years before the earthquake.)
2 And he said, The Lord shall roar from Zion, and shall give his voice from Jerusalem; and the fair things of shepherds mourned, and the top of Carmel was made dry (and the pastures of the shepherds were parched, and the top of Mount Carmel was made dry).
3 The Lord saith these things, On three great trespasses of Damascus, and on four, I shall not convert it, for it threshed Gilead in iron wains. (The Lord saith these things, For the three great trespasses of Damascus, and for the fourth, I shall not turn away their punishment, for they carved, or sliced, up the people of Gilead with iron wagons, or with iron sleds.)
4 And I shall send fire into the house of Hazael, and it shall devour the houses of Benhadad.
5 And I shall all-break the bar(s), [or locks,] of Damascus, and I shall lose a dweller from the field of idol, and him that holdeth the sceptre from the house of lust and of lechery; and the people of Syria shall be translated to Kir, saith the Lord. (And I shall altogether break the locks of Damascus, and I shall destroy the inhabitants of the field of Aven, and him who holdeth the sceptre of the house of Eden; and the people of Syria, or of Aram, shall be carried away captive to Kir, saith the Lord.)
6 And the Lord saith these things, On three great trespasses of Gaza, and on four, I shall not convert it, for it translated perfect captivity, to close that together in Idumea. (And the Lord saith these things, For the three great trespasses of Gaza, and for the fourth, I shall not turn away their punishment, for they carried away their Israelite captives, and delivered up, or sold, them to Edom.)
7 And I shall send fire into the wall of Gaza, and it shall devour the houses thereof. (And I shall send fire onto the city walls of Gaza, and it shall devour the houses there.)
8 And I shall lose the dwellers of Ashdod, and him that holdeth the sceptre of Ashkelon; and I shall turn mine hand on Ekron, and the remnants of Philistines shall perish, saith the Lord God. (And I shall destroy the inhabitants of Ashdod, and him who holdeth the sceptre of Ashkelon; and I shall turn my hand against Ekron, and the remnants of the Philistines shall perish, saith the Lord God.)
9 The Lord God saith these things, On three great trespasses of Tyre, and on four, I shall not convert it, for they closed together perfect captivity in Idumea, and had not mind on the bond of peace of brethren. (The Lord God saith these things, For the three great trespasses of Tyre, and for the fourth, I shall not turn away their punishment, for they delivered up, or sold, their Israelite captives to Edom, and did not remember their covenant with their kinsmen.)
10 And I shall send fire into the wall of Tyre, and it shall devour the houses thereof. (And I shall send fire onto the city walls of Gaza, and it shall devour the houses there.)
11 The Lord saith these things, On three great trespasses of Edom, and on four, I shall not convert it, for it pursued by sword his brother, and defouled the mercy of him, and poured further his strong vengeance, and kept his indignation till into without end. (The Lord saith these things, For the three great trespasses of Edom, and for the fourth, I shall not turn away their punishment, for they pursued their own kinsmen with swords, and defiled their own mercy/and gave them no mercy, and poured out more of their strong vengeance, and kept their indignation kindled forevermore.)
12 And I shall send fire into Teman, and it shall devour the houses of Bozrah.
13 The Lord saith these things, On three great trespasses of the sons of Ammon, and on four, I shall not convert him, for he carved the women with child of Gilead, for to alarge his term. (The Lord saith these things, For the three great trespasses of Ammon, and for the fourth, I shall not turn away their punishment, for they carved up the women with child in Gilead, in order to enlarge their boundaries.)
14 And I shall kindle fire in the wall of Rabbah, and it shall devour the houses thereof, in yelling in the day of battle, and in whirlwind in the day of moving together. (And I shall send fire onto the city walls of Rabbah, and it shall devour its houses, and there shall be shouting on the day of battle, and in the great moving, or in the tumult, on the day of the whirlwind.)
15 And Malcham shall go into captivity, he and his princes together, saith the Lord. (And their king shall go into captivity, he and his leaders together, saith the Lord.) — Amos 1 | Wycliffe's Bible (WYC) The Wycliffe Bible is in the public domain. THE FAITH OF PROPHET AMOS
A prophet’s voice beneath common skies,   Sent by God, the Lord who dwells on high,   From Tekoa’s fields, a shepherd’s rise,   Amos proclaimed truth; the prophet preached no lie.   The lion hath warned, who will not fear,   He spoke God’s Word, sharp, loud and clear,   “Prepare to meet thy God,” Amos warned,  God’s message aimed to make them free from their evil bond.  Seek ye the Lord,…

#DailyDevotion You've Been Warned. Repent & Believe The Good News! Amos 3 3 Do two men walk together if they aren’t agreed? 4 Does a lion roar in the forest when he has no prey? Does a young lion cry out from his den if he hasn’t caught anything? 5 Does a bird fall into a snare on the ground when there is no bait? Does a snare spring up from the ground without catching something? 6 Is a horn blown in a city without people being afraid? Does any disaster happen in a city if the LORD doesn’t do it? 7 But the Lord GOD doesn’t do anything without telling His secret plan to His servants, the prophets. 8 The lion roars — is there anyone who isn’t afraid? The Lord GOD speaks — is there anyone who will not prophesy? With all these questions and understanding what the answer to them is going to be I can't but think of the song Nobody But Me, by The Human Benz starting off with, “No-no, no, no, no, no-no-no, no, no-no, no, no-no Na-no, no, na-no, no-no, na-no, no-no, no, no-no, no.” If you're feeling nostalgic or want to listen to it you can go here: https://youtu.be/f3HpZNE1Z9k?si=yRevVaoFeNDDsFiw But now we get to verse seven. On the one hand, this is very comforting. The LORD does not do anything in secret. Before He acts He sends forth the prophets to tell the people. We see this in Noah who proclaimed the name of the LORD to the people destroyed by the flood. Abraham, Isaac and Jacob proclaimed the name of the LORD to the Caananites calling them to repentance. They doubled down on their sins and the LORD destroyed them with the Israelites. Now one prophet after another is foretelling Israel's and Judah's upcoming doom. He is even warning the neighboring countries. Had they repented they may have averted their destruction like the Ninevites did. Jesus prophesied to us in these Last Days. He told us of wars and rumors of wars. He told us the natural disasters to fall upon us. He warned us of the spiritual plagues that would come upon humanity. And as the refrain in Revelations goes, “and they did not repent.” Before the great and terrible day of the LORD, even though Jesus has warned us already in the Gospels, through the letters of Paul and John's Revelation, it's possible before that last and terrible day He may open the mouths of His people and prophesy again. That may be the meaning of the two prophets in Revelation. The nations do indeed greatly fear the LORD and His judgments. It's why the mantra on their mouths to God's people is, “Don't judge.” Their consciences cannot bear the fact they are indeed answerable to the LORD God Almighty. They despise even His forgiveness because it also indicts their souls that they need forgiveness. Well judgment day is coming just as it fell upon the Judites, Israelites, Ammonites, Moabites, Edomites, Phoenicians, Tyrites, Assyrians, Babylonians, Greeks, Romans and even upon the USA. But more importantly, you are appointed once to die and then the judgment. You have been warned. Will you confess your sin? Will you turn from your sin? Will you turn to Jesus Christ and find in Him the Father's mercy, love, kindness, steadfast love and forgiveness? It is there for the taking. Do not spurn the grace offered to you. Believe Jesus saved you and receive His righteousness, His eternal life now and on the day of judgment. Heavenly Father, You have warned us through the prophets of the coming judgment. Help us to take it to heart, repent and believe in Jesus Christ for salvation. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. Read the full article

All your dictators themselves have fled at one time: There is an overthrowing of the wicked ones and they are no more, but the very house of the righteous ones will keep standing...
“Hear this word that Jehovah has spoken concerning YOU, O sons of Israel, concerning the whole family that I brought up out of the land of Egypt, saying, ‘YOU people only have I known out of all the families of the ground. That is why I shall hold an accounting against YOU for all YOUR errors.
“‘Will two walk together unless they have met by appointment? Will a lion roar in the forest when it has no prey? Will a young maned lion give forth its voice from its hiding place if it has caught nothing at all? Will a bird fall into a trap on the earth when there is no snare for it? Does a trap go up from the ground when it has absolutely caught nothing? If a horn is blown in a city, do not also the people themselves tremble? If a calamity occurs in the city, is it not also Jehovah who has acted? For the Sovereign Lord Jehovah will not do a thing unless he has revealed his confidential matter to his servants the prophets. There is a lion that has roared! Who will not be afraid? The Sovereign Lord Jehovah himself has spoken! Who will not prophesy?’
“‘PUBLISH it on [the] dwelling towers in Ash’dod and on [the] dwelling towers in the land of Egypt, and say: “Be gathered together against the mountains of Sa·mar’i·a, and see the many disorders in the midst of her and cases of defrauding inside her. And they have not known how to do what is straightforward,” is the utterance of Jehovah, “those who are storing up violence and despoiling in their dwelling towers.”’
“Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord Jehovah has said, ‘There is an adversary even round about the land, and he will certainly bring your strength down from you, and your dwelling towers will actually be plundered.’
“This is what Jehovah has said, ‘Just as the shepherd snatches away from the mouth of the lion two shanks or a piece of an ear, so the sons of Israel will be snatched away, those sitting in Sa·mar’i·a on a splendid couch and on a Dam·a·sceneʹ divan.’
“‘HEAR and give witness in the house of Jacob,’ is the utterance of the Sovereign Lord Jehovah, the God of the armies. ‘For, in the day of my holding an accounting for the revolts of Israel against him, I will also hold an accounting against the altars of Beth’el; and the horns of the altar will certainly be cut off and must fall to the earth. And I will strike down the winter house in addition to the summer house.’
“‘And the houses of ivory will have to perish, and many houses will have to come to their finish,’ is the utterance of Jehovah.”
“Hear this word, YOU cows of Ba’shan, who are on the mountain of Sa·mar’i·a, who are defrauding the lowly ones, who are crushing the poor ones, who are saying to their masters, ‘Do bring, and let us drink!’ The Sovereign Lord Jehovah has sworn by his holiness, ‘“Look! There are days coming upon YOU, and he will certainly lift YOU up with butcher hooks and the last part of YOU with fishhooks. And [by] breaches YOU will go forth, each one straight ahead; and YOU will certainly be thrown out to Har’mon,” is the utterance of Jehovah.’
“‘Come, YOU people, to Beth’el and commit transgression. At Gil’gal be frequent in committing transgression, and bring YOUR sacrifices in the morning; on the third day, YOUR tenth parts. And from what is leavened make a thanksgiving sacrifice to smoke, and proclaim voluntary offerings; publish [it], for that is the way YOU have loved, O sons of Israel,’ is the utterance of the Sovereign Lord Jehovah.
“‘And I also, for my part, gave YOU people cleanness of teeth in all YOUR cities and want of bread in all YOUR places; but YOU did not come back to me,’ is the utterance of Jehovah.
“‘And as for me, I also withheld from YOU people the downpour when there were yet three months to the harvest; and I made it rain on one city, but on another city I would not make it rain. There was one tract of land that would be rained on, but a tract of land on which I would not make it rain would be dried up. And two or three cities staggered to one city in order to drink water, and they would not get satisfied; but YOU did not come back to me,’ is the utterance of Jehovah.
“‘I struck YOU people with scorching and mildew. There was a multiplying of YOUR gardens and of YOUR vineyards, but YOUR fig trees and YOUR olive trees the caterpillar would devour; yet YOU did not come back to me,’ is the utterance of Jehovah.
“‘I sent among YOU people a pestilence in the nature of that of Egypt. With the sword I killed YOUR young men, along with the taking captive of YOUR horses. And I kept making the stink of YOUR camps ascend even into YOUR nostrils; but YOU did not come back to me,’ is the utterance of Jehovah.
“‘I caused an overthrow among YOU people, like God’s overthrow of Sod’om and Go·mor’rah. And YOU came to be like a log snatched out of [the] burning; but YOU did not come back to me,’ is the utterance of Jehovah.
“Therefore that is what I shall do to you, O Israel. As a consequence of the fact that I shall do this very thing to you, get ready to meet your God, O Israel. For, look! the Former of [the] mountains and the Creator of [the] wind, and the One telling to earthling man what his mental concern is, the One making dawn into obscurity, and the One treading on earth’s high places, Jehovah the God of armies is his name.”
“Hear this word that I am taking up over YOU people as a dirge, O house of Israel:
“The virgin, Israel, has fallen; She cannot get up again.
She has been forsaken upon her own ground; There is no one raising her up.
“For this is what the Sovereign Lord Jehovah has said, ‘The very city that was going forth with a thousand will have a hundred left; and the one going forth with a hundred will have ten left, for the house of Israel.’
“For this is what Jehovah has said to the house of Israel, ‘Search for me, and keep living. And do not search for Beth’el, and to Gil’gal YOU must not come, and to Be’er-she’ba YOU must not pass over; because Gil’gal itself will without fail go into exile; and as regards Beth’el, it will become something uncanny. Search for Jehovah, and keep living, that he may not become operative just like fire, O house of Joseph, and it may not actually devour, and Beth’el may not be with no one to extinguish [it], O YOU who are turning justice into mere wormwood, and the ones who have cast righteousness itself to the earth. The Maker of the Ki’mah constellation and the Ke’sil constellation, and the One turning deep shadow into the morning itself, and the One who has made day itself dark as night, the One calling for the waters of the sea, that he may pour them out upon the surface of the earth —Jehovah is his name; he who is causing a despoiling to flash forth upon someone strong, that despoiling itself may come upon even a fortified place.
“‘In the gate they have hated a reprover, and a speaker of perfect things they detest. Therefore, for the reason that YOU are extracting farm rent from someone lowly, and the tribute of grain YOU keep taking from him; houses of hewn stone YOU have built, but YOU will not keep dwelling in them; and desirable vineyards YOU have planted, but YOU will not keep drinking the wine of them. For I have known how many YOUR revolts are and how mighty YOUR sins are, O YOU who are showing hostility toward someone righteous, YOU who are taking hush money, and the ones who have turned aside poor people even in the gate. Therefore the very one having insight will in that time keep silent, for it will be a calamitous time.
“‘Search for what is good, and not what is bad, to the end that YOU people may keep living; and that thus Jehovah the God of armies may come to be with YOU, just as YOU have said. Hate what is bad, and love what is good, and give justice a place in the gate. It may be that Jehovah the God of armies will show favor to the remaining ones of Joseph.’
“Therefore this is what Jehovah the God of armies, Jehovah, has said, ‘In all the public squares there will be wailing, and in all the streets people will be saying: “Ah! Ah!” And they will have to call a farmer to mourning, and to wailing those experienced in lamentation.’ ‘And in all vineyards there will be wailing; for I shall pass through the midst of you,’ Jehovah has said.
“‘Woe to those who are craving the day of Jehovah! What, then, will the day of Jehovah mean to YOU people? It will be darkness, and no light, just as when a man flees because of the lion, and the bear actually meets him; and [as when] he went into the house and supported his hand against the wall, and the serpent bit him. Will not the day of Jehovah be darkness, and not light; and will it not have gloom, and not brightness? I have hated, I have rejected YOUR festivals, and I shall not enjoy the smell of YOUR solemn assemblies. But if YOU people offer up to me whole burnt offerings, even in YOUR gift offerings I shall find no pleasure, and on YOUR communion sacrifices of fatlings I shall not look. Remove from me the turmoil of your songs; and the melodious sound of your stringed instruments may I not hear. And let justice roll forth just like waters, and righteousness like a constantly flowing torrent. Was it sacrifices and gift offerings that YOU people brought near to me in the wilderness for forty years, O house of Israel? And YOU will certainly carry Sakʹkuth YOUR king and Kai’wan, YOUR images, the star of YOUR god, whom YOU made for yourselves. And I will cause YOU to go into exile beyond Damascus,’ he whose name is Jehovah the God of armies has said.”

Folie à Deux

Summary: The Darkling x OC (Grishaverse) || Amos x Heaven (PB)
Five short blurbs in the mental hospital, where none of these troubled souls thought they would find love. Part I here: Happiness Therapy.
Content: tooth-rotting fluff, fun, mention of self harm, mention of crimes, sexual innuendo for the last one.
Tumblr media
1: The Chess Game
Alone in their usual corner, the tall darkness and the killer doll were gathered around a chessboard set on a wobbly little table.
“Let me guess,” Amos drawled, resting his chin on his hand as his eyes surveyed the board first and the seraphic white-haired woman after. “You’ve never played chess.”
Heaven shifted in her seat, her pale hair falling over her face as she did. A little growl escaped from her lips. “No,” she finally admitted, one hand sliding her white locks behind her ear while the other was busy moving her pawn forward hesitantly. “But how hard can it be, uh?”
“To be fair…” Amos smirked, amused by the childish pout on her face, which offered a striking contrast with all the cuts she had on her arms. “Very”. Contrary to her, his hands moved with easiness — long fingers sliding his pieces across the board. The white creature furrowed her brows further, her icy eyes squinting at the black and white tiles like they held the secrets of the universe. Or rather, as if the rules would appear on them and bring her some understanding.
“That’s a terrible move,” Amos said when she reached for a bishop.
“How do you know?” she shot back, her voice defiant and her little but surprisingly sharp canine teeth flashing at him. She was started to become slightly irked by his little teasing remarks — Of course she didn’t know how to play! It was some kind of rich kids and nepobabies game, she argued with herself.
Amos leaned back, his black iris gleaming with amusement and a bit of lust, for the danger she exuded never failed to make him weak. “Because I’m going to destroy you in three moves.” He still said bluntly, his little smirk deepening and charming crow feet appearing at the corner of his eyes.
“Is that a challenge?” Heaven narrowed her eyes at him.
Amos grinned. “Oh, it’s a promise.”
Three moves later, her king was cornered and his prophecy was fulfilled. The killer doll groaned, collapsing back against her chair with a pout. “This game is stupid.”
“Not stupid,” Amos corrected. “Strategic.”
She glared at him but the little gleam that was twinkling in the frozen desert of her eyes was playful. “What’s the strategy? Annoy your opponent until they quit?”
“Exactly.” He retorted with a grin, resting his strong and warm hand softly on hers.

2: The Snowball Incident
The hospital courtyard was covered with a thick blanket of snow, frosty flakes still lazily swirling in the crisp air around them. Despite the freezing temperatures, patients were still allowed outside for fresh air with the supervision of nurses who looked both far too cold and tired to intervene in any mischief. Amos was standing beside the killer doll, watching her as she tilted her head back to catch snowflakes on her tongue.
“Childish,” he teased, stuffing his hands into his pockets. But his eyes, burning and piercing, remained fixed on the wet flesh of her tongue.
“You’re just jealous you didn’t think of it first,” she shot back, her diaphanous cheeks now pink from the cold.
Her reply only made the tall, dark-haired man scoffed. “I’m a man of sophistication. I don’t do things like—”
A snowball hit him square in the chest. A perfect shot with the precision of a sniper. Heaven froze, her eyes wide, clearly surprised at her own boldness.
Amos stared down at the snowy mark on his long black coat, then back at her, his lips twitching. “Did you just—”
Before he could finish, another snowball hit him at the exact same place. Then a second he managed to dodge before it hit his face.
“Alright, Lavey,” he said, and, not wasting time, the tall darkness crouched to scoop up his own handful of snow. “You want a war? You’ve got one.”
The next ten minutes were a blur of laughter, poorly aimed snowballs and challenging kisses. By the time the nurses called them back inside, Heaven’s long white hair was soaked and Amos’ coat too — which didn’t stop them from smiling brighter than they had in years.
Tumblr media
3: Morning Rituals
Mornings were the worst, whether in isolation or in her casual bedroom. The bright lights and the endless monotony of routines always got on her nerves — so much she was certain it would be the death of her one day. Or the death of them, if she ended up snapping. However, Amos had a way of making them bearable.
Every morning, as they lined up for breakfast, he would greet her with some new absurdity. Some random, accurate but weird knowledge about something.
“Did you know,” he started one morning, leaning back against the wall as he usually did, “that penguins propose with rocks?”
At first Heaven didn’t know if it was another piece of informations or if, this time, his new meds were a tad bit too strong. “What?” She asked, blinking.
“It’s true,” he said, completely deadpan. “The male finds the smoothest rock he can and gives it to the female. If she accepts, they’re mates for life. Because they have one true love.” He added, making sure she knew his mind was clear.
“Why do you know this?” She asked, amused.
“I read it somewhere,” he said with a shrug. “Anyway, if I ever find the right rock, I’ll let you know.”
She laughed and for the rest of the day, she couldn’t stop thinking about penguins.
The day he left, Amos slid something in her pocket. It was a smooth and polished stone.
Tumblr media
4: Dangerous
The common room was usually quiet for most of the patients had learnt to keep their distance. Some of them nervously glanced at the twisted lovers, not daring go close to the couch as if it had been proclaimed their throne.
Amos was sprawled out, his long legs taking up most of the space, while Heaven sat cross-legged beside him, tracing lazy patterns on the back of his hand with her fingertips. The pleasant sensation sent shivers down his spine.
“You ever notice how they look at us?” He asked, his voice low and his foot nervously moving — he was clearly annoyed by something.
She glanced up, her fingers pausing mid-pattern. “You mean like we’re about to snap and murder everyone?” Heaven suggested, one eyebrow raised.
“Hmm,” He nodded.
The crazy angel simply shrugged, “Well, you did disfigure someone and you are prone to ultra violent fits. And I… you know, the murder thing”
Her lack of compassion surprisingly managed to soothe his concerns and snatched a soft laugh from his lips before he leaned back on the couch and made a quick movement with his hand to silently tell Heaven to keep caressing him, “Fair point.”
She didn’t do as he wished. Instead, she grinned mischievously and lifted his hand to press it to her chest, right over her heart. “Feel that?”
Even surprised, his smirk deepened. “Your heartbeat?”
“Yeah,” she said, the hypnotizing lilt of her voice blending in a mix of playfulness and sincerity. “Totally normal. See? Not planning a murder right now.”
Amos chuckled but didn’t pull his hand away. Instead, he turned her hand over and gently pressed his smooth lips to her frail and bruised wrists, “Not quite normal. It started beating faster when you felt my lips…” He whispered, his void-black eyes locking onto hers. Her shivers were so intense he felt the goosebumps on her skin, “And what about me? Am I dangerous?”
Her heart skipped a beat: it wasn’t even a question, he was undoubtedly dangerous. Charming. Intense. Unpredictable. All these things that she only found in herself until now. Heaven tilted her head, pretending to consider.
“Yes you are. But I don’t think you’d hurt me.”
“Never,” he said softly, his voice barely above a whisper and the predatory gleam in his black iris turned into the purest form of affection and devotion.
Tumblr media
5: Folie À Deux
Nightly visits were strictly forbidden but Amos had a knack for bending rules. When he entered the room, grinning like a kid sneaking into a candy store, she couldn’t believe it.
“They’ll kill us if they catch us,” she whispered, even though the slight curl of her lips fleshy betrayed her excitement.
“Correction,” Amos said, “They’ll kill me. You’re too charming for them to stay mad at.”
“You’re insane,” she muttered, her breath stopping for a moment when his hands found her waist in a firm grip.
“Yeah, and so you are. But you’re smiling, so I’d say it’s worth it.”
“Don’t be sill—“
“Do you want me to leave?” he interrupted, his voice gentle but firm. His smile faltered for a moment, his dark eyes looking at her with something different: raw and unfiltered emotions. He wasn’t joking anymore because he realized how madly in love with that crazy doll he was.
Heaven hesitated but only for a fleeting a moment before she shook her head. “No.”
That was all he needed. Right after, his lips found hers. Hesitantly at first, as if he was testing the waters — or still hesitating on giving in to her, knowing full well he'd give her the key to destroy him if. Knowing he was taking the risk of letting her break his heart. But when she melted into him, sinking in his arms with hers wrapped around his neck, the kiss deepened. It wasn’t rushed or desperate like their torrid quick fuck, but slow, deliberate. Not only they were savoring every moment, but they swore a silent oath: no matter what will happen in this life or the others, it will always be him and her.
Amos guided her backward toward the small bed, his hands on her waist keeping her steady. Until the backs of her knees hit the edge, she let herself fall on the mattress, pulling him with her.
In this Folie a Deux, he wasn’t the Darkling and she wasn’t the White Devil. Just two broken souls learning to breathe again. And suddenly, both the shadows and the voices didn’t feel so heavy anymore.

Secular jew here with a really stupid question about the tanach
What exactly constitutes the tanach? I think I've heard it's an acronym, so would the Torah be the t? what's the rest of the acronym? Which writings does it include? I'm pretty sure the talmud isn't part of it, what else isn't? Apologies if this is too basic of a question for you!
Hello! Thank you for the question!
The Torah indeed is the first part of the Tanach. Tanach is an acronym for the Hebrew words Torah, Nevi'im and Ketuvim. Roughly translated, those titles mean "Instructions", "Prophets" and "Writings", respectively. The Tanach, then, consists of 24 books divided into those three categories.
The Torah is the easiest one to define: it's the Pentateuch, the Five Books of Moses, however else you choose to call them, and they are generally known to be set apart. The books in it are Bereshit (Genesis), Shemot (Exodus), Vayikra (Leviticus), B'midbar (Numbers) and Devarim (Deuteronomy). Those are the books traditionally given to Moshe directly by G-d, and mostly focus on the formation of the Israelite people and its time under his leadership. It also includes all the commandments, basically.
Nevi'im are supposedly the books written by prophets, and half the books there are specifically books of prophecy (which is more messages from G-d than necessarily predicting the future). However, the first four books - Joshua, Judges, Samuel and Kings - are more historical in nature, chronicling the events from Moshe's death to the destruction of the 1st Temple. The last four books - Isaiah, Jeremaiah, Ezkiel and the Twelve prophets - are primarily books of prophecies and visions, with some stories sprinked in between. Most of them are concurrent with events in the book of Kings - except for the last three of the Twelve Prophets, who have lived around the building of the 2nd Temple. The Twelve Prophets are (by this order): Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Michah, Naḥum, Ḥabakuk, Zephaniah, Ḥaggai, Zacharias and Malachi. Names are written more or less in their traditional English spelling.
Then we get to the Ketuvim, Written texts, which are... a little more vague. It's hard to say if there's a uniting theme. A couple are books of parables and songs are there, yet others are more chronicles of events, either ones that occured after the time of the book of Kings, before it or concurrently with it. A common assumption is that the difference between those and the Nevi'im is the level of prophecy in writing them - where the Nevi'im were written under direct prophecies, while the Ketuvim were only written in Ruach HaKodesh (roughly translated as "the holy spirit", but I don't want to cause any confusion with Christianity). Either way, the books in the Ketuvim are, in order: Tehilim (Psalms), Mishley (Proverbs), 'Iyov (Job), Shir HaShirim (the Song o Songs/the Songs of Solomon), Rut (or Ruth), Eichah (Lamentations), Kohellet (Ecclesiastes), Ester (or Esther), Daniel, Ezra (and Neḥemiah) and Divrey HaYamim (Chronicles).
If you count, you'll find there are 5 books in the Torah, 8 in the Nevi'im and 11 in the Ketuvim - 24 in total. Ther Twelve Prophets, known as Trei Asar (which just means twelve), are considered one book, The division of Samuel, Kings, Ezra and Chronicles into two books each is relatively late and only makes sense in Ezra due to the obvious PoV shift. Which kind of reminds me, maybe a brief explanation is required as to what each of those last 11 books is.
Tehilim is a book of prayers and religious poems, traditionally written by King David (though they were probably collected long after his time). Mishley is the proverbs of king Shelomo (Solomon), some of which were definitely written long after his time (as in, it's directly stated inside the book). 'Iyov is possibly a parable, possibly a real story which serves as a background to a conversation on the problem of evil that doesn't seem to be solved within the book. The five books from Shir HaShirim to Esther are considered the Five Scrolls, but actually share very little in common: Shir HaShirim is a love song that sometimes become rather erotic, written by King Solomon. Ruth is an origin story to King David's family that occurs during the Judges period, and is about his Great-Grandmother and her conversion to Judaism (she was from Moab, which was a neighboring nation). Eichah is a book lamenting the destruction of the 1st Temple and of the Kingdom of Judea, traditionally written by Jeremiah. Kohellet is a philosophical book pondering the meaning of life - it either finds none or finds solace in faith, depending who you ask - also said to have been written by King Solomon. Esther is famously about the first organised Pogrom in recorded history - one against the Jews of the Persian empire, occuring during the Babylonian exile in Persia. Daniel is about the vision of a Jewish slave in the court of Nebuchadnezzar, who somehow succeeds to stay in a position of power after multiple switches in the government. The story of Daniel isn't half as interesting as his weird visions, though. Ezra is about the rebuilding of the Temple and Jerusalem after the return from exile, more or less - Ezra and Neḥemiah are the major leaders of this time period. This is pretty much a chronicling book - as is the last one, appropriately called Chronicles (Divrey HaYamim). That one basically attempts to sum up everything that happened to the Jewish people throughout history until the building of the 2nd Temple.
I've already written a lot and am too tired to explain why those books were codified and others weren't, so I'll just leave it at that for now.

The Bible is not a historical (compilation of) book(s), it's a theological book. There are some things that cannot be taken literally. They should be read theologically, spiritually.
While reading it, you can see that there are parts that have historical inaccuracies in the Old Testament, I mean, they don't match with other historical events, small details like the names of emeprors. There are things that don't exactly agree within the different books of the Old Testament.
Don't get me wrong. I know and believe God created everything that exists, but there's a reason why the Catholic priest Georges Lamaître made the Big Bang theory, and why the Catholic friar Gregor Mendel made the laws of genetics. Is there something I'm not getting?
Yes, there is a lot you are not getting. Especially based on the follow up ask you sent me while I was getting ready to respond to this.
The Bible is not a historical (compilation of) book(s), it's a theological book.
The Sacred Scriptures are a compilation of book of various genres. The Old Testament consists of forty-six books. Twenty-one historical books, containing the account of the creation of the universe and the history of the patriarchs and the Jewish nation. Seven didactic books, containing collections of psalms, wise sayings, and rules of life. Eighteen prophetical books, containing prophecies as well as instructions or admonitions.
The Historical texts are: the five books of Moses, Joshua, Judges, Ruth, the four books of Kings, the two Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, Tobit, Judith, Esther, the two books of the Maccabees.
The didactic texts are: Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Songs, Wisdom, Sirach.
The prophetic texts are: Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Baruch, Ezekiel, Daniel, Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Johan, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, and Malachi.
We get these groupings from the collective writings of the Church Fathers and the Tradition (capital T). (x)
here are some things that cannot be taken literally. They should be read theologically, spiritually.
This is a fundamental misunderstanding of what the literal sense of Scripture is. The Catechism summarizes the Church's teaching on the different senses of Scripture in paragraphs 115-119:
115 According to an ancient tradition, one can distinguish between two senses of Scripture: the literal and the spiritual, the latter being subdivided into the allegorical, moral and anagogical senses. The profound concordance of the four senses guarantees all its richness to the living reading of Scripture in the Church.
116 The literal sense is the meaning conveyed by the words of Scripture and discovered by exegesis, following the rules of sound interpretation: "All other senses of Sacred Scripture are based on the literal." (x)
117 The spiritual sense. Thanks to the unity of God's plan, not only the text of Scripture but also the realities and events about which it speaks can be signs.
The allegorical sense. We can acquire a more profound understanding of events by recognizing their significance in Christ; thus the crossing of the Red Sea is a sign or type of Christ's victory and also of Christian Baptism.
The moral sense. The events reported in Scripture ought to lead us to act justly. As St. Paul says, they were written "for our instruction".
The anagogical sense (Greek: anagoge, "leading"). We can view realities and events in terms of their eternal significance, leading us toward our true homeland: thus the Church on earth is a sign of the heavenly Jerusalem.
118 A medieval couplet summarizes the significance of the four senses: The Letter speaks of deeds; Allegory to faith; The Moral how to act; Anagogy our destiny.
119 It is the task of exegetes to work, according to these rules, towards a better understanding and explanation of the meaning of Sacred Scripture in order that their research may help the Church to form a firmer judgement. For, of course, all that has been said about the manner of interpreting Scripture is ultimately subject to the judgement of the Church which exercises the divinely conferred commission and ministry of watching over and interpreting the Word of God.
The entirety of Holy Writ is to be taken literally. Not all of the books are meant to be taken as historical. This I have shown, and it does not contradict.
While reading it, you can see that there are parts that have historical inaccuracies in the Old Testament, I mean, they don't match with other historical events, small details like the names of emeprors. There are things that don't exactly agree within the different books of the Old Testament.
I do not have the time to go through and scrounge up all of the answers to any supposed contradictions contained within the Old Testament, at least not right now (typing this at 1 am). I think it is sufficient to point out that, as a Catholic, you are bound under pain of mortal sin to believe in Scriptural inerrancy with divine and catholic faith.
From Pope Leo XIII:
"So far is it from being possible that any error can co-exist with inspiration, that inspiration not only is essentially incompatible with error, but excludes and rejects it as absolutely and necessarily as it is impossible that God Himself, the supreme Truth, can utter that which is not true. This is the ancient and unchanging faith of the Church."
Providentissimus Deus
Reiterated by Pope Pius XII:
“For as the substantial Word of God became like to men in all things, ‘except sin,’ so the words of God, expressed in human language, are made like to human speech in every respect, except error”
Divino Afflante Spiritu
From the Second Vatican Council:
"Since, therefore, all that the inspired authors, or sacred writers, affirm should be regarded as affirmed by the Holy Spirit, we must acknowledge that the books of Scripture firmly, faithfully and without error, teach that truth which God, for the sake of our salvation, wished to see confided to the sacred Scriptures."
Dei Verbum
There is much much more but I believe I've made my point on this matter. Next...
Don't get me wrong. I know and believe God created everything that exists
Nice, we agree!
but there's a reason why the Catholic priest Georges Lamaître made the Big Bang theory
I don't really understand the point here. I have known of Father Lamaitre and him being the "inventor" of the big bang theory for a while but I have never read it. Regardless, he is held to the same scrutiny and standard as everyone else is by both what I have already here laid out and what Pope Pius XII lays out in Humani Generis. I cannot say if he does or not, I have not read it, but a singular priest is not really an authority. This is especially true in the realm of the physical sciences.
and why the Catholic friar Gregor Mendel made the laws of genetics
Same principle as before regarding the authority of an individual priest that is not Your (royal you) pastor. I am also not familiar with this particular work, but I don't see a contradiction with the Faith at all on its face. I believe in genetics. I don't think you understand what macroevolution is as a concept.

The witness is very true!
A Revelation from the Revealer of secrets
Repent the kingdom of the heavens have drawn near.
Prophecy = 42 months, 1,260 days, that is 3 in a half times
FYI, the probability of accurately predicting specific details about human behavior thousands of years into the future is incredibly low. Many statisticians and scholars agree that assigning an exact number is hard, but the probability could be something like 1 in billions or even more. Predicting the future involves countless variables and unknowns that are nearly impossible to foresee accurately over such a long period.
Why use the scriptures? Because they are God's Word, spoken through His prophets (Amos 3:7), who God is rewarding as stated in the scriptures (Revelation 11:18). Prophecies about the last days, inspired by God's Spirit (2 Peter 1:21), were written to the congregations.
Therefore may the ones who have an ear hear what the spirit says to the congregations (Revelation 2:7).
Therefore….
----------------‐‐--------------------------------------
Isaiah 2:22
For your own sakes, quit trusting in mere man, Who is only the breath in his nostrils. Why should he be taken into account?
Revelation 1:1
A revelation by Jesus Christ, which God gave him, to show his slaves the things that must shortly take place. And he sent his angel and presented it in signs through him to his slave John
Revelation 1:3
Happy is the one who reads aloud and those who hear the words of this prophecy and who observe the things written in it, for the appointed time is near.
Revelation 1:11
saying: “What you see, write in a scroll and send it to the seven congregations:…”
Deuteronomy 13: 1-4
In case a prophet or one who foretells by dreams arises in your midst and gives you a sign or a portent, and the sign or the portent about which he spoke to you comes true while he is saying, ‘Let us walk after other gods,’ gods that you have not known, ‘and let us serve them,’ you must not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer, for Jehovah your God is testing you to know whether you love Jehovah your God with all your heart and all your soul. After Jehovah your God you should walk, him you should fear, his commandments you should keep, to his voice you should listen; he is the one you should serve, and to him you should hold fast.
Daniel 8: 23-25
And in the final part of their kingdom, as the transgressors act to a completion, a fierce-looking king who understands ambiguous sayings will stand up. His power will become great, but not through his own power. He will bring ruin in an extraordinary way, and he will be successful and act effectively. He will bring mighty ones to ruin, also the people made up of the holy ones.  And by his cunning he will use deception to succeed; and in his heart he will exalt himself; and during a time of security he will bring many to ruin. He will even stand up against the Prince of princes, but he will be broken without human hand
Daniel 11:45
And he will plant his royal tents between the grand sea and the holy mountain of Decoration; and he will come all the way to his end, and there will be no helper for him.
Revelation 17:17
For God put it into their hearts to carry out his thought, yes, to carry out their one thought by giving their kingdom to the wild beast, until the words of God will have been accomplished
*********************************************
1 Peter 1:10
Concerning this salvation, the prophets who prophesied about the undeserved kindness meant for you made a diligent inquiry and a careful search.
Matthew 15: 10,11
With that he called the crowd near and said to them: “Listen and get the sense of it: It is not what enters into a man’s mouth that defiles him, but it is what comes out of his mouth that defiles him.”
Revelation 13:5-7
It was given a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies, and it was given authority to act for 42 months. And it opened its mouth in blasphemies against God to blaspheme his name and his dwelling place, even those residing in heaven. It was permitted to wage war with the holy ones and conquer them, and it was given authority over every tribe and people and tongue and nation.
The wild beast has opened its mouth and spoken. How do we know because God Word shines light on it.
James 1:19
Know this, my beloved brothers: Everyone must be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to anger
*********************************************
2 Peter 1:21
For prophecy was at no time brought by man’s will, but men spoke from God as they were moved by holy spirit.
Isaiah 14: 13,14
You said in your heart, ‘I will ascend to the heavens. Above the stars of God I will lift up my throne, And I will sit down on the mountain of meeting, In the remotest parts of the north. I will go up above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself resemble the Most High.’
God said, "Let it be luminaries in the expanse of the heavens." These luminaries will serve as signs for days and years. (Genesis 1:14)
Biblically, they used a lunar calendar, which is based on the cycles of the moon. 🌙 According to the biblical calendar, a year consists of 360 days. 📅
Going off the lunar calendar, 1,260 days is equivalent to 42 months. That's exactly 3 in a half times
Why is this number of months/days important because this is how long the holy city is being trampled on underfoot, 42 months. (Revelation 11:2)
Which is also the same amount of months the wild beast opened his mouth and spoke for. (Revelation 13:5,6). Giving breath/life to the image (Revelation 13:15)
The moon is being mentioned as being beneath the feet of the woman in Rev 12:1.
Therefore, since the nations trampled the holycity underfoot for 42 months. (Revelation 11:2) This refers to the moon. Since the moon is beneath her feet. (Revelation 12:1)
Ironically, walking on the moon was a big milestone, and all the earth followed with admiration (Revelation 13:3). The moon is "underfoot."
Neil Armstrong, "That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind."
When did this image of the moon start to speak?
Opening of the mouth = the launch of the Apollo 11 mission, which aimed to be the first humans on the moon.
Closing of the mouth = the last moon mission Apollo 17. It was the final mission of the Apollo program, and it marked the last time humans been to the moon to this day
July 16, 1969 December 19, 1972
Keep in mind the Lunar Calendar 📅 360 days a year.
A common year has 365 days. So, for most years, if your birthday was on a Friday, the following year, it will walk forward to be on a Saturday. Because of this walk back a day each year
1972 - 1969 = 3 years
December 19 walk back a day each yr = December 16
(Do not count the leap year 02/29/1972)
July 16, 1969 to December 16, 1972
If counted by the days = 1,260 days
If counted by the month = 42 months
If counted by the year = 3 in a half
Green dot = Apollo 11 (first humans on the moon)
Blue dot = Apollo 17 (last time humans been to the moon)
Red dot = leap year (do not count this day since it adds an extra day)
-----------------------------------
Revelation 12:1
...and the moon was beneath her feet...
* 1,260 days
Revelation 12:6
...prepared by God and where they would feed her for 1,260 days
Revelation 11: 3,4
I will cause my two witnesses to prophesy for 1,260 days dressed in sackcloth.” These are symbolized by the two olive trees and the two lampstands and are standing before the Lord of the earth
