And so it begins again

Eyes flutter, mind on the cusp of awareness. Morning beams peak through blinds of denial. I greet the world in which I am immersed, brace myself for what is yet to come.

Morning beams peak through blinds of denial, dressing in silence, lost in the routine, bracing myself for what is yet to come— the stress and anxiety starts building.

Dressing in silence, lost in the routine, suddenly, I’m in a room full of peers. The stress and anxiety starts building. Scribbled lines fight for space on crisp, white leaves.

Suddenly, I’m in a room full of peers— judging, comparing, competing against. Scribbled lines fight for space on crisp white leaves, fate determined by numbers and letters. 

Judging, comparing, competing against, nothing but perfection is accepted. Fate determined by numbers and letters, pushing me to study harder, longer. 

Nothing but perfection is accepted. I’ve lost all control over my own life, being pushed to study harder, longer. My mind and soul dying a little more. 

I’ve lost all control over my own life. I feel the darkness slowly creep closer, my mind and soul dying a little more, embracing sleep for the escape it gives.

shadows shroud the places where 

she hides

Sun and the chiaroscuro masques 

made in images 

meant to represent something 

like the harlequin garb of grief unspoken

but masques become fixed things

held in place by tension 

sometimes martyrdom

there are no saints or heroes left here

only a smudged half-light

of humanity

clasping itself in fear
