#gopher art#tf2 spy#tf2 administrator#team fortress 2#tftober#obligatory 'BLU are clones' hc but like. I have such strong and detailed thoughts about it that it borders on just being another AU#Basically. Project Thomas is/was a program focused on cloning with accelerated growth as cloning resulting in an infant subject was already#successful. Blu Team aren't the first subjects resulting from the project. in fact they're the result of SO much R&D in TFi + Mann Co#Not only are they clones accelerated to varying stages of adulthood. They also have falsified and altered memories#If any of Y'all would like to hear more about my clone thoughts. just ask. Its hard for me to post about things without prompting lol#thank you for help deciding what to draw Corey!!!

Writing/Animation prompt I wrote out at 5-6am:
The film starts out with a lovely artstyle reminiscent of Classic Disney. Smooth frames with bright colors, with talking objects and animals. Including a pet Golden Retriever the main character keeps on their side during their quests. It is here that they experience a lively imagination of fantasy. Slaying dragons, saving princesses, seeing fairies, the works.
But as time passes, the main character grows up. And while excited, it was hard to notice the lower frames of the animation quality. Sure, it wasn't liquid smooth, but it still looked relatively fine enough for plenty of life. The character continues their quests, the objects and dog still talk.
Many minutes come by, and one would start to notice the less and less frames the film would have for the animation. It looks like something off the Internet now, as the character enters teenage years. They reinvent their fantasy by incorporating mature and edgy stuff into it (Like drugs, blood, and War.), and for a while it worked.
For a while anyway. Even with all the exciting "mature" stuff, the objects no longer talk. Though their dog does, and even guides them on their journeys through teenagehood.
But eventually, that dies out too. That one hope, all forms of fantasy fades away as the animation gets even worse. To the point of it looking like a sitcom. Life, but less about happiness and more about keeping you alive. Much like the animators' work. Their fantasy world is gone. Completely. Only in a house that vaguely resembles that world. The objects don't even have facial expressions at all. Even the artifacts and posters on the wall from teenagehood are deteriorating. They look at the window outside your house, only seeing a cloud of putrid smoke and faint scenes of destruction.
And yet, going back inside there is one hope left. One glimmer and memory of their whole life: Their dog. Which still talks. Though he himself is getting older and more frail. After a few more minutes of conversation, he eventually collapses to the ground. As his heartbeat slows down at an ironically fast pace, he begins to speak his final words to them. Afterwards, his head falls into their hand, gone. Disappeared. His body even disintegrating in their arms.
Nothing then, was the same. As we near the end of the film, things still changed. Even the style, the adult animation style, was being made worse and worse to the point where they forget to move certain body parts. Until they couldn't even blink anymore. They're just merely a drawing that speaks in a setting and nothing more. The budget gets lower, there are no colors now, the animator forgets to had integral features to their design.
The background is blank, nothing is there. The character that the animator had drawn all this time, is just a poorly drawn headshot. Can't even talk, blink, or breathe. It was just there. For the last 5 minutes of the film, it just stood there. Staring back at you, as the lines get thinner. The character looks at you one last time, front facing. Almost begging for the animator to not go to the last frame. But they do anyway, and now it's just blank.
Literally nothing there. No description whatsoever. The film ends.
A degradation of a book that represents the death of childhood, the fatigue of adulthood, and the loss of innocence and life.

Glorfindel the Child Lord
[for Glorfindel Week, hosted by @glorfindelweek, Day 2, a companion piece to Glorfindel the Child Balrog Slayer]
“My King?” Glorfindel said. “You sent a message?”
Turgon’s office was small and intimate. The council room and other official and ceremonial rooms in the spiraling tower were large and opulent as only the Noldor could be, but he liked his private room small and tastefully decorated with a handful of meaningful items. There was something about conversing in these rooms as opposed to anywhere else that made Glorfindel feel completely seen and understood, even if he was not always called here for the most pleasant of discussions.
Turgon looked up from his armchair by the window. He held a book in one hand and an elegant glass of some russet drink in the other. The gold woven into his hair flashed in the setting sun as he raised his head. “I see the message found you. I wondered how long it would take.”
“Yes,” Glorfindel agreed, conscious of the flecks of dirt on his clothes that threatened to fall onto the pristine rug. Maybe he should have taken the time to change first. “The courier should be commended: she let no great feat daunt her.”
Turgon smiled and gestured at the seat across from him as he set the leather-bound book on a side table. “Nor mountain cliffs, I suspect. Calatail more than earns her name. Please, sit.”
“I dare not, for my tunic is soiled. I am quite happy to speak on my feet.” He pointed at one of the various muddy marks to illustrate the risk he posed to furniture. He really should have changed, and maybe washed his hair, too. He doubted Turgon had expected him, the lord of one of his houses, to arrive several hours late and covered in dirt and detritus. He wasn’t doing a very good job at this lord business, was he?
“Laurefindelë, a little dirt will not harm the upholstery. Sit.” Turgon said it with a serious but teasing tone, mixing Sindarin with Quenya.
Glorfindel did so, settling himself on the edge of the seat and touching as little of the cushion as possible. Turgon definitely noticed but refrained from commenting further, which was a relief. He did not want to disobey his king, but also, he really should have made himself presentable. He wasn’t a child anymore.
“Now, Glorfindel,” Turgon said, relaxing back into his seat and into casual Quenya, using the Sindarin version of his guest’s name, which he knew the young lord preferred. “From all appearances, I will assume Calatail had to retrieve you from your House’s fields in the northern glen-”
Glorfindel kept his mouth shut. That was not true at all and he was fairly certain Turgon knew he hadn’t been anywhere near where he should have been. It wasn’t that he was trying to shirk his new duties, and he understood the weight of responsibility the title of Lord gave him—he grew up watching his parents bear that responsibility. Sometimes he just wanted to run off and leave it all behind. He couldn’t though, so he’d compromise by climbing as high up the precipice surrounding the secret city as he could. He knew he shouldn’t do it but he did.
“-and that our meeting slipped your mind while you were thus occupied.” Turgon’s voice was calm, his face untroubled, but he was without doubt giving gentle chastisement.
It would have been better, Glorfindel thought, if the king had reprimanded him with sharp words, or demanded an explanation for the tardiness. He would have if any of the other lords kept him waiting for so long. He had much to do and little time to wait for dawdlers.
Glorfindel cast his eyes down and clasped his dirty hands in his lap, attempting to look duly chastened, even if he didn't feel it. He knew he should do better, could treat his title with all the gravity it deserved (he'd seen his parents bear it with all the honor they could, even during the hardest parts of the March) but he knew he’d do this again, and he couldn’t bring himself to feel sorry about it. He would try to not miss another meeting, at least.
“We’ll put that behind us,” Turgon said kindly. “I wanted to discuss your House’s contribution to the Festival of Trees.”
Glorfindel straightened in his seat. This was about his House; he needed to represent his people well. This was one thing he couldn’t fall short of. “Preparations are well underway. We have dual responsibilities with guarding the fourth gate, so I’ve broached the possibility of collaboration with the House of the Fountain for the tournaments.”
“Very good,” Turgon said with a nod. “As usual, Idril is organizing special events for the children.”
This was clearly the reason he wanted to meet with Glorfindel.
“In years passed, you’ve assisted her with that.”
“Yes,” Glorfindel agreed. Idril recruited him to shepherd the younger children—mostly products of the Long Peace before the construction of Gondolin—from activity to activity. He liked it. The formal festivities were nice, especially once he was old enough to appreciate the more solemn bits, but he always looked forward to gathering up the children to meet Idril.
Turgon smiled again but his lips were thin, like he was about to say something and did not fully like the taste of the words. “I’ve asked that she find someone else to help her this year and going forward. With your new responsibilities, I thought it best to relieve you of that burden so that you can focus on your House.”
Glofindel did not slump in the seat. He did not let his shoulders drop with disappointment because he was not disappointed. He really wasn’t. He knew this would come eventually; he wasn’t a child anymore, and he could name at least three elflings who’d happily take up the honor of working with Idril. Still, a pang of loss shot through his chest at the finality heralded by the king’s words.
He’d given up his childhood when Turgon placed the lordship on his shoulders.
(his memories of the ceremony tasted like smoke from the Nirnaeth Arnoediad and salt from the tears on his face, his parents’ absence a bleeding wound inside his chest)
“My deepest thanks,” he said past the lump in his throat. “I might have forgotten about the conflict until the celebration was upon us. I will write a letter for Idril to thank her for allowing me to work with her for so long, and suggesting new candidates to fill the role.”
“I’m sure she’ll track you down herself in the coming months.” Turgon’s expression was once again relaxed, the challenging part of the conversation over.
She would, wouldn’t she? He wondered how long he could avoid it without being rude. Idril was nothing if not determined (that was one of the things he admired about her when he was young).
There was another pause, but this time Glorfindel had nothing to contribute to the silence other than his own.
Turgon’s tone changed again when he opened his mouth, going from the king he had become in Beleriand to the family friend Glorfindel vaguely recalled from Valinor. “Lordship is a great weight I have asked you to shoulder. How are you doing, Laurë?”
“I am learning a great many things.” Glorfindel didn’t know how much more he could bring himself to say. “And as you’ve seen, schedule management is still a trial. My King,” he stood, “if our business is finished, might I beg leave to depart? I’ve just remembered I have a House meeting to preside over that starts in half an hour. I promised my steward I wouldn’t be late this time.”
Turgon looked taken aback at the sudden change in the conversation. He looked up at the young lord from his seat. “That was everything pressing. Please, go if you need.”
Relief filled the parts of Glorfindel’s body not already flooded with painful memories. He spun on his heel, no longer caring if his clothes shed debris on the rugs, and hurried from the office. He barely caught the king’s promise that they’d talk again soon.
He left the palace tower as quickly as he could, nearly tripping on the stairs in his haste to be out and away so he could find a quiet spot to recompose himself. The House meeting wasn’t as imminent as he’d said, but he didn’t have enough time to hide the evidence of tears from his steward if he started crying now.
(she’d been his parents' steward since Valinor, and she’d watched him grow up)
(he feared he was disappointing her with his struggles to fill his father’s shadow as Lord of the House of the Golden Flower)
He tucked himself away in the unused space behind a bakery. Sitting very still, he focused on the tantalizing smells coming from the open windows rather than the memories of the day the battered, fractured army came back from the Nirn.
#not connected to a prompt and probably a bit rush but i'm busy this week and doing my best#i just want to pat him on the head and give him a hug and say sorry for forcing him into adulthood a bit early#finally decided on the parents dying during the nirn instead of the march so that glorfindel could actually still be young#turgon's trying but he is very busy and glorfindel's always seemed very self sufficent#don't worry because ecthelion is doing a great job of taking him under his wing and helping him figure out this whole lord thing#and giving him a bit of a family too#glorfindel week#glorfindel#turgon#gondolin#kid glorfindel the balrog slayer au#the silmarillion#grimwing writes

dance, sender sticks a hand out to receiver and invites them to dance. // for chiyo, from rayo! ♥
actions speak louder than words | @metrictita's rayo dances with chiyo!
they've only just finished cleaning up what was left of breakfast, the last beats of " i love my body " filling the air as chiyo dries the last mug. were lyrics sung with the utmost passion? yes, of course! were butts bumped? obviously! and the grin upon chiyo's face only grows wider as a gentle voice filters through her phone's speakers.
now in its place is something new, she sings along, meeting rayo's eyes with a finger pointed right at him. oh, she feels so cheesy. i hear it when i look at you.
the implication of what she's singing along to registers a moment too late; she tries to carry on with a small laugh, and " you need to listen to this guy, rayo! he's cured my writer's block before. " yet as chiyo puts away their mugs and hangs her towel to dry, she spies rayo's hand outstretched to her, just waiting for her to take it.
chiyo hesitates. she's not much of a dancer -- the butt bumping from earlier is about as advanced as she gets -- and she doesn't trust herself anymore. she doesn't trust her heart to not have some weird, fluttering reaction ( she doesn't understand how that can happen, how her heart can yearn for more than one person at a time. it's scary, makes her feel as if she's becoming greedy. she shouldn't take his hand. she shouldn't. ).
rayo smiles, calls her that pet name she finds really cute ( yet has never said so ). the instrumental softly swells as if to spur her on, and ah, what's the harm? chiyo places her hand in rayo's ( she shouldn't take his hand, but she can't help herself. she really can't. ).
her fellow artist pulls her closer and into a twirl that has her dizzy and laughing in no time at all. it's almost enough to stop chiyo from noticing how warm rayo's palm is on her waist as they sway side to side, or how very romantic the song really is. when he dips her and she nearly falls from being too dramatic about it, she almost forgets how much she likes being close enough to smell the different notes of his cologne and the lingering scent of cigarettes. they laugh together, and it's almost possible to believe they're just friends being goofy.
they are just friends being goofy. but chiyo knows there's more to it than that, too. she knows it, and she's trying so hard to ignore it because that's the only way she knows to get through it.
again, the music swells, bigger and fuller and brighter until it's bursting ( and how perfect a sound, how it tells the feeling of a heart bursting in a way words never can ). chiyo grins as she spins back into rayo's space. " you took my broken mel-- oh! "
as the singer's voice echoes in the kitchen, rayo lifts her up and spins, arms securely wrapped around her as he laughs at her surprise. she's thrown her arms around his shoulders immediately, butterflies erupting in her stomach, but it's over as quickly as the song is. her feet are back on the ground, she's looking up at that smile again, and chiyo's trying really hard to remind herself that they're... they can't be anything more than friends. it doesn't matter that it feels right to be standing chest to chest, nor does it matter that few others can get her to dance with such little effort. this can't become " something new. "
she likes niko. he knows that -- chiyo's pretty sure all of them know that by now, as mortifying as that is. so it isn't fair that she's doing this right now. it isn't fair that she's slowly but surely growing more and more attached to all three of them, wondering what it would be like if by some impossible stroke of luck, they all liked each other. it isn't fair to them, and it isn't fair to herself, either. she's just complicating things needlessly.
so chiyo takes a step back.
" ya coulda warned me you were gonna do that, " she says, smile upon her lips and a storm brewing in her chest. she thinks she manages to act pretty normal, all things considered... save for gracelessly knocking into the kitchen table as she turns to leave. nice. " now, c'mon! we gotta leave soon if we wanna see the sea lions, and i really wanna see those cuties. "
#metrictita#interactions | chiyoko#WEEPS I SWEAR I MEANT FOR THIS TO BE LIKE!! THREE PARAGRAPHS!! I'M NOT EVEN GOOD AT WRITING DANCES!!#i dunno this just made me all mushy and chiyo got all contemplative about liking all of them and we somehow wound up here asdf#ALSO i got really carried away obviously so if at any point you're like 'rayo wouldn't do that' pls tell me!!#i was trying to stick to physical actions that made sense with his personality and the prompt but still ;;;;;#ALSO also an aquarium/zoo day with the four dorks... chiyo revealing she actually goes there often enough to know#the best route to take and when the animals tend to be active bc she's a big animal-loving nerd :' )))#chiyo baby-talking an elephant and pointing at different animals and telling niko 'hehe that's you'#okay i'm rambling and this is already such a long post ASDFG I HOPE YOU ENJOYED IT THOUGH!!#more to come tomorrow... if bg3 doesn't consume me... then more to come sunday >:)))#a chain reaction in your heart | adulthood | chiyoko

we need to bring back anon kink memes in a big way. no one is horny enough anymore. the other night i found a fic on an old kink meme from 2009 that was so well-written and also so raunchy and foul (affectionate) it could have stripped paint off my car. there is something about truly unapologetic filth that can be transcendent and tender and marrow deep and maybe if we all leaned into being anonymous depraved little weirdos again we'd learn how to have more fun.
#especially hetalia's!!!#the hetalia kink meme was my young adulthood lmao#i lived on that livejournal#reading new prompts coming in and re-reading my faves ♡♡♡#i really shoulda finished my estrus fill...

24.how to get home
I'm over 300 hundred miles away from home
It'll only take a few hours if I don't take a break
And there's no accidents or traffic
But there always is
But that takes the fun out of it
Part of getting home is taking an entire day
Little treats at every service station
The service station chats that shaped mine and my mums relationship
Now I'm her not so little kid anymore
It's funny I've done this journey 8 times
But I've never travelled it as the same traveller

I am loudly pushing the batdad agenda i am loudly pushing the— DPxDC Prompt
“Woah. You look like shit."
Granted, that’s probably not the first thing Danny should be saying to the guy that just bit the curb, but in his defense; he’s not running on 100% right now either.
The man -- tall, towering, and broader than Danny is tall -- whips around on his heel, black frayed cape flaring out impressively. Danny would've whistled in appreciation, but he takes the time instead to wipe the back of his hand across his mouth, smearing the blood running from his nose across his cheek.
"Sorry." He blinks widely, not even flinching as the man with the horns zeroes in on him. "That was rude of me. I have a really bad brain-to-mouth filter; Sam says its what always gets me into trouble."
And she's not wrong either, per say. His smart mouth is what landed him in this situation -- with blood blossom extract running through his veins and cannibalizing the ectoplasm in his bloodstream. Thanks Vlad.
The man grunts at him; a short, curt "hm" that shouldn't make Danny smile, but he does because he's somewhat delirious and probably concussed. The man keeps some kind of distance, sinking towards the shadows of Gotham's alleyway like he dares to melt right into it.
If it's supposed to scare Danny, it doesn't work. Danny's never been afraid of the dark; he's always been able to hide himself in it. He blinks slowly at the mass of shadows.
"You look hurt." The shadows says, blurring together around the edges. Danny squints, and licks his lips to get the blood dripping down his chin off. Ugh, he hates the taste of blood.
"I am." He says, "My godfather poisoned me. M'dying." The agony of the blood blossom eating him from the inside out looped back around to numbing a while ago, so all he feels is half-awake and dazed.
"Hey," Danny stumbles forward towards the man, a bloodied hand reaching out to him. "You-- you're a hero, right? You're not attacking me; which is more than I can say for most costumed people I've met." Maybe it's a poor bar to judge someone at, but he's already established that Danny's not in his right mind.
The man makes no change in expression, but Danny realizes blearily that it's hard to tell with the shadows on his face. He stays still long enough for Danny to latch onto the cape -- stretchy, but almost soft under his fingers.
He looks up blearily into the whites of the man's eyes. "Can you help me? I don't-- I don't wanna die." Again. He doesn't wanna die again. He blinks slow and lizard-like. "I mean- I'll probably get to see mom and dad again, but I told them I'd at least try and make it to adulthood."
There's a clatter down the street, and Danny's ghost sense chills up his spine and leaves a bitter, ashy taste in his mouth. He immediately knows who it belongs to even before the deceptively gentle; "Daniel?" echoes down the way.
"Daniel? Quit your games, badger, Gotham is dangerous for children."
Danny's mouth pulls back, and blood spills against his tongue. "Please." He rasps, and grabs onto the shadow's cape with both hands. "Please. He's going to kill me. Please--"
"Daniel? Is that you?"
His lips part, dragging in air to plead with the darkness again. He doesn't need to, the whites of his eyes narrow, and the cape whirls around him before Danny can blink. Soon swaddled in shadows, the Night lifts him up, and steals him away.

but also for someone who has definitely played around with amnesia and rebuilding and reliving and such stuff in fic before (just because i never posted it doesn't mean i didn't play around with it), i. now kind of want to figure out how to play around with that with junko. the scenario would need to be different. but.
#musings#prompts#bandit brainstorms#just like#in the now definitely abandoned epic superhero crossover i was planning#(and did a good chunk of writing on actually)#(and then posted something set in that universe but none of the main fics#it was just too big in scope for me to keep that many moving parts going#and also there was a thing i didn't want to write and by the time i figured out how to get around writing it i'd lost a lot of drive for it#but there was this idea that one of the characters got cloned (based on a superpower subset that she got from etc.)#so there were three of them with this subset#but that the clones were kids being raised - her clones weren't /her age/ etc.#and said character could shapeshift and /did/ - into herself as a child - to try and get away from the people who were experimenting on her#and got hit hard enough to lose her memory#and she got put in a safe space and raised to adulthood without regaining any of her memories#and then eventually gained them back#and there was that disconnect of who she was and who she is and how to implement them and how to just...address all of that#and that's kind of what i'd like to do with junko#not necessarily being reverted to childhood again#and certainly not the clone stuff#but a more permanent sort of memory loss#which plays into stuff we know is possible in canon!#and i know dr0 plays with that /a bit/#but i want a junko who goes for /years/ as an entirely different person#who /becomes/ an entirely different (perhaps well-adjusted) person#and /then/ regains her memories#like the idea of that is just fascinating to me#idk if it is for anyone else

The King's "Grandchildren"
DP x DC Prompt
Danny had been Ghost King for a long time now, and he's been slowly getting the Infinite Realms back into a stable environment.
Dani had returned to be his daughter after she had her fill of exploring the world. She had become the Crown Princess and enjoyed the trouble she caused sometimes. Though if things got too far out of hand, she'd get scolded by both her dad and Aunt Jazz.
When Dani had reached her adulthood, she had become attached to a particular city in a different dimension. A place called Gotham where the Wayne name was just beginning.
Dani is the oldest child of Danny, with Klarion, Child, and Nabu being her younger siblings. Those three have already made their presence in the world that Dani likes long before she found it.
The resident magicians of the world had mistaken Dani for the city spirit of Gotham because Dani is close to a neverborn than a Halfa, and Dani being the gremlin that she is fully goes along with it.
Dani had taken an interest in the Wayne family by the time Bruve was born, and she mourns the loss of Thomas and Martha, but she's happy to have them in the Infinite Realms to finally dote on them.
She really adores Bruce but wishes he could a little help with his things, but she also really loves the children he picked up, and Jason is her favorite.
Dani has told her family about her "children" in the Mortal realm, which has also caused Klarion to take in interest in playing with them, Child is indifferent, as she'd rather annoy Klarion and Nabu.
And then Danny is summoned by his son, Nabu, to deal with Klarion going a bit too far in his playing, with the entire Justice League there, which includes the entire Batfam.

Now they're twenty four, spending a few weeks together in her Berlin apartment as he takes a well earned break from work. He's a world famous singer, she has an office job she hates. Their paths couldn‘t be more misaligned - but that's what makes them work. Everything falls into place when they're together, a quiet routine building in the shadows, easy and organic. They move around each other like life is the simplest thing in the world.
But what happens when a drunken conversation on a balcony threatens the livelihood of their friendship forever?
What happens when all bets are off and they're forced to be honest with each other?
Word-count: around 4k
Warnings: nothing really, mentions of alcohol, swearing
A/N: Hey there, it's been months! I haven't really written much except from this little thing because I’ve had a lot going on. I'm not a huge fan of this tbh, but something about it feels comforting, so I thought I'd post it. Get ready for the cheesiness of it all and hope you're having a good day!
By the way he calls her Tinkerbell in this lol (don’t ask).
Also, there‘s weird time jumps because I wanted to try out something new, but it basically just switches between the night the conversation went down (italics) and the morning after and her thoughts on the night (normal). Hope it‘s not too confusing!
—
“Because you’re the most beautiful person I’ve ever known, Tink.”
That’s what he said last night. He was drunk, even though he insisted repeatedly he wasn’t, but she smelt the alcohol on his breath, a mix of beer and mint that was harmonious enough to smell good. His pupils were dilated, cheeks a shade of red they only are when he’s downright gone but trying to act like he isn’t.
She knows him like the back of her hand. Fourteen years together, every step of their lives since childhood. Elementary, secondary, early adulthood to now— all of it, she’s known him better than anyone. She’s seen all of his phases, however successful or downright devastating— she’s gotten to know all the cousins, all the girlfriends, all the enemies. They’re the it couple, the loves of each other‘s lives. In the most platonic way imaginable.
Last night he wasn‘t like himself. He spent most of the night keeping to himself despite the rare company of their friends, chucking drink after drink like alcohol isn’t the gateway drug it‘s known to be— so unlike the man who always paces himself so as to preserve his health. And then he spoke to her. And at first, it went like always.
“Tinkerbell!”
“What?” She breathes softly, turning to face him whilst pressing her back against the railing. She’s biting the inside of her cheek, having just thought of him as she looked over the scenery from her balcony thinking how nice it’d be for him to be by her side. “You okay, there, cowboy?”
“Never been better, Tink.”
And she remembers, even now, the smile that tugged at her face when she realized he was different. Because it wasn’t a bad different; it wasn’t like he became cold, or dismissive, or mean— no, he just seemed happy. Too happy, like there was nothing in the world that warranted enough importance to be worried about. A version of him she’s never fully gotten to know, but has seen snippets of. And it isn’t like he’s not a happy person— he is; never too worried, never too scared. But this was a different kind of happy.
He seemed lighter. Like the years of experience and maturity had washed away momentarily, leaving her with the eighteen year old Harry she once knew standing in front of her.
“Oh is that why you can’t walk straight?”
He shushes her, coming to lean his front against the railing. She inches closer to him, head falling comfortably against his shoulder. Then she says softly, “we haven’t spoken much today.”
“Yeah, we haven’t.”
She prompts her chin on his shoulder, staring hesitantly at the side of his face. There’s barely any lighting and she can barely make out the shapes, but it’s enough. She watches as his lashes flutter softly, as his facial muscles tighten a little. “And why is that?”
He looks ahead, breathing in and out gently, like he’s deep in thought.
He shakes his head. “I don’t know, Tink.”
“Okay,” she nods subtly. “Well if you want to talk about it…”
“…you’re here.” He finishes for her.
“Like I always am,” she emphasizes, the extra squeeze to his arm substituting for a thousand words she could be saying instead. But she doesn’t really need to. Never has.
Now she’s waiting. In the kitchen, back in the living room. Then in the kitchen again. She’s pacing, thinking, worrying about what Harry will say when he’s up. If he even remembers what he said, if he meant it the way she thinks he must have.
She never had to worry about losing him. Because she always knew, even at 12 years old, that risking it would mean losing it forever. It being the friendship; the bond with the kindest, most precious boy she had ever laid eyes on. So even though throughout the years sparks of feelings have crept up on occasion, she’s never pursued that dream.
But it would be sucha dream, wouldn’t it? To be loved by the boy she grew up loving. To be loved by the boy who knows how to appreciate her without having to be taught. To be loved by the boy who always puts her first, treats her best, makes her feel whole.
It hurts sometimes to think she might never find someone like him again. It’s psychotic, really, the fact that she’s so frightened of losing him that she’s deprived herself of the best man on earth. Just so she can keep him a little longer. Even if it means walking down the aisle to him and not being the one wearing white.
For a lingering moment, all there is between them is silence. Dead silence, just the rhythm of Harry’s heartbeat exposed underneath her fingertips.
He breathes in deeply, almost as though preparing himself to say something earth shattering. But then he doesn’t. His fingers twitch, she sees it.
“What is it, H?”
He looks at her, eyes filled with something indescribable. But she speaks his language, so even though he doesn’t say it, she knows what he means to convey. Thankfulness. Gratitude. And she feels it too, any time she’s sad or conflicted, any time she’s in a place she doesn’t want to be in— a glance of his eyes and there it is. All the words. Never spoken out loud, but crafted together perfectly in the space between their bodies. She always wonders how. She knows he’s wondering it right now too.
But it changes something in his face. It pushed him over the edge, the look of determination solidifying into something more serious.
“You get me, Tink.”
“I do,” she says lowly, making sure to tilt her lips into a smile. “And you, H, get me.”
“That’s crazy, isn’t it? How rare must a connection like ours be?”
“Pretty rare, probably,” she replies with an easy chuckle, eyebrows furrowing ever so slightly.
“Yeah, probably. I don’t even think it and you know. Y’know before I do, every time.”
Her breathing changes with his. It’s sporadic, slower, almost like otherwise she would be risking a solid ground to stand on. “Yeah, I… I guess so, H. Are you okay?”
“I’m always good when I’m with you. Which is—“ he laughs, almost like at himself, “which is kind of the point, you know. I—“ he looks away, running a shaky hand through his disheveled hair, “I’ve been thinking about how weird it is that we’re… I mean, I’ve never felt that way about…” he pauses again, taking a short leveled breath. “About anyone, really. Anyone but you.”
Her eyebrows pinch, pulling together to crease the center of her forehead.
She doesn’t know what to say. Maybe she shouldn’t say anything. Maybe then he’ll realize he shouldn’t be doing this right now, that he’s entering dangerous territory.
“And I saw you with… with that guy. Tim, you said?”
He nudges her when she remains quiet.
She clears her throat,”Tom, actually.”
He huffs a breath, “right, Tom. I see him, you know? I see what he could be, but it really doesn’t matter that he’s a good guy. It doesn’t matter that he picks up the bill, doesn’t matter that he opens your fucking door. I can’t shake this feeling that he could never be good enough. Because nobody is— not for you. Not even if he kisses the ground you walk on.”
And finally, it’s like she understands a little better what he’s trying to say. She snickers quietly to herself, but lenient worry spreads throughout her chest regardless. “well, that’s a little silly.”
“Is it?”
“If nobody’s gonna be good enough then might as well pick the next one in line, right?”
A pause. Then a cough. “Yeah, right,” he nods, but it looks and feels as though there’s something more to it.
Gently, she brushes a lone finger over his cold wrist. “Harry, what’s happening right now? I’m confused.”
He shakes his head, taking a breath to brace himself. “Is he the next in line?”
For some reason, her heart beats faster. “What?”
And when he looks into her eyes again, they’re red. “Tom. Is he the next in line? The next best guy?”
For the first time, she allows her gaze to linger, to glide over his nose down to his mouth, then back up again. She swallows, the options of what to say made available to her in her head, yet both too risky to choose from. But she has to say something. “No, he’s not. You’re the best guy, you know that. But it’s different with you, with us.”
And he nods his head, taking in the answer with special consideration.
After a long pause, he takes a deep breath. “Would I be good enough?”
“Would you be good enough for what, H?”
“For you.”
And it was truly instinctual, her laugh. It was racked with nervousness, a sense of unease because she was left thoroughly confused. Looking back, it was probably demeaning of her to laugh— but then again, she still has no idea what happened last night. Where it came from.
She can picture it in her head now, the nervous look on his face as he asked her the question and probably the only time she’d ever recognized anything resembling insecurity in his voice. She’s pacing, a feeling of disgust overriding her stomach at the thought. She hadn’t wanted to hurt him, to undermine him. But she didn’t know.
“Why are you laughing?”
She detaches herself from him, dismissal evident in her every step. Maybe it’s the kind of dismissal that needs to be expressed so that nothing moves and everything is left untouched— enough for him to just drop it. Because she’s terrified of it all falling apart. The first domino tile has been flicked; now it‘s only a matter of when will the rest fall in line? “Because you’re being ridiculous, Harry. Stop doing that, you’re freaking me out.”
But it’s not enough. He follows after her, struggling to walk a straight line. “What’s ridiculous about me asking you a serious question?”
“I just— you know you’re good enough!”
“Do I?”
She glances at him shortly before continuing in stride. “Oh come on! Stop acting so oblivious and innocent.”
“What does that even mean, Y/N?”
“I can’t talk about this right now. Not when you’re this drunk.”
“I’m not drunk!”
“Yeah and the fucking pope isn’t catholic.”
He scoffs aloud. “Tinkerbell!”
“What?” She swivels around, her arms coming to hug around her middle. She looks at him as though repulsed, because frankly, she is. Things were fine before he had to go and get himself drunk and spurt things he couldn’t possibly mean.
He pauses, an expression of defeat on his worry-ridden face as he inches closer. And when he speaks again, it’s timid, not like anything she’s ever known him to be.
“I don’t want to hurt you, Tink.”
“What are you even talking about, Harry?”
“I don’t want to be the guy you regret, or hate, or hurt over. When we’re old, I want to be the guy you look back on with affection. And I— I didn’t really care about anything when we were younger, but I always cared about that. About you.”
He‘s terrified, she can hear it. With every breath he takes, every word he sounds out, there‘s an undertone of hesitation that keeps poking through the surface. It‘s like he‘s fighting with himself.
“Harry,” she warns, because this is all becoming too intense.
And that’s when he said it. Because you’re the most beautiful person I’ve ever known, Tink. He said it with sincerity dripping from his words, a type of vulnerable that neither of them had ever demanded from one another. Who could’ve thought that he would ever reserve those words for her. Not for the women he’s dated, not for the woman he’ll marry. For her.
He must be kidding her.
“I can’t do this right now. I’m sorry.”
She walked away then, slamming the door behind her with considerable force. She was ready to leave this behind. Ready to sleep and wake up renewed, indifferent to last night’s shenanigans.
But she couldn’t sleep. She left bed at seven this morning and now she’s just sitting at the counter waiting for the air to shift. She wants the reassurance that things will continue to be the same.
But deep down, she knows things can never again be the same, not even if they move past it graciously. It‘ll always live on in their subconscious, gnawing away at their minds until either of them caves and decides it isn‘t worth the hassle. Because it doesn‘t matter how much she wishes she could deny it; there‘s always been something there. And that something has gotten bigger and bigger, becoming too enormous to stay invisible to the human eye.
The clearing of his throat snaps her out of a trance. He’s standing in the doorway, sweatpants hanging low from his hips, shirtless. His arms are hugging loosely around his frame and something about about it causes her stomach to stir. Last night, of course, but also just him. Seeing him on a bright summer morning in all his glory, just how he is. There‘s a sense of domesticity that she supposes became normalized in their friendship but is now itching for a different kind of attention.
She wonders how long he‘s been standing there.
“Hey,” she offers a warm smile, the relief at the sight of him enough to ease some of the tension in her body. “How’d you sleep?”
“Good. It’s just now that I’ve got a bit of a headache.”
“Oh! I actually thought you might so I— wait,” she rounds the island to her purse and fishes around for the pills, “I bought a new pack of advil yesterday—“
But the distraction doesn‘t work on him.
“Tink, I meant it.”
It’s abrupt. Even in his delivery, she can tell he’s been keeping it in, been aching to say it.
She freezes however, turning in her spot with a squint in her eye, “what?”
He releases a deep sigh. “I meant it. What I said about you last night. I know you’re hoping we can move past it but it’s been on my mind for a long time.”
“Oh,” she replies quietly, dumbfounded, “I’m sorry about how I reacted—“
“It’s fine, you don’t have to apologize. I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have said it that way. Usually I’m good at keeping these things to myself but there was something about last night that— it just fucked with me. I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay. You should always tell me when something’s bothering you, I’m sorry I’ve made you feel like you have to keep things to yourself.”
He laughs. It’s subtle and soft, but it’s there, barely a release of breath. He pushes away from the doorway, coming to stand by the island next to her. “You don’t mean that, Tink.”
“Yes I do.”
“You didn’t even want to hear it last night.”
“I was just confused.”
He shakes his head. “And if I told you all of that now? Would you react any differently? Because however much you might hate it, I wouldn’t take anything back.”
“I don’t hate it.”
“But you’re confused.”
“I mean— out of fucking nowhere, you drop this bomb on me and it’s… fourteen years, Harry. That’s how long we’ve been friends.”
“Do you mean to tell me that you’ve never thought about it? Because if you can look me in the eyes and tell me that, I’ll drop it right this moment.”
And she can feel herself becoming increasingly more frustrated because she can’t really tell what exactly he’s trying to say. Communication has always been their strong suit, but this… whatever this has come to, it’s not like anything she’s ever experienced with him before. It‘s messy, slopey, unchartered territory. “Thought about what, Harry? I’m so lost right now and I don’t know what you want from me.”
“I want you to be honest!” He exclaims wildly, running a hand through his hair whilst gesturing with the other. “There’s been so many times, Tink. The dance, prom, our graduation, fucking last week where there’s been this— this switch. And I feel like something is going to happen but you’re— it’s like you don’t want it to. So be honest with me.”
“Well I just— that’s not fair!”
“How is it not fair?”
“Because you always seemed too fucking good for me, Harry!” She cries out. “Everyone would say it, literally everyone— those fucking girls at school, people at home, the media. I mean, how could I ever think you would settle for someone like me?”
“Someone like what, Tink? Someone who loves unconditionally? Someone who has always put the happiness of others before her own? Someone who is so damn perfect and selfless and kind that I couldn’t imagine anyone being good enough for her? Someone like that, you mean?”
She shakes her head, the words describing her thoughts heavy on her tongue but too vulgar to be spoken aloud. How could she ever be honest with him if honesty means admitting to every feeling of insecurity she has ever harbored at the prospect of her best friend? How could she ever be honest with him when honesty means making him realize she’s not nearly as perfect, selfless or kind as he believes? “Nobody has ever loved me. I don’t think it takes a degree to figure out why, Harry.”
“That’s not true.”
“Oh, it isn’t?”
“Look around, will you? If nobody loves you why are all of these pictures of our friends hung up on the walls?”
A chuckle escapes past her lips, “man, you really don’t get it, do you?”
“What?”
“That’s not the kind of love I’m talking about.”
He scoffs, shaking his head to regain an inkling of composure and rid himself of annoyance - not of her, but her tendency to make herself the villain in every story, “you can’t possibly be blaming yourself for all of those failed relationships right now. Half of them fucking cheated on you.”
“Yeah, why? if I’m so perfect and lovable why would—”
“God, would you ever blame me if someone cheated on me? Why are you always treating yourself the way you would never treat anyone else, huh? Why are you always so harsh on yourself?”
“You’re perfect, Harry. I mean, perfect career, perfect family there’s nothing wrong with you. You can’t possibly compare that to me, can you? I’m a fucking mess. I haven’t found my passion—“
He rolls his eyes. “We’re twenty four, for god’s sake—“
But she continues. “And I’m emotional. I get annoying and clingy, my family fucking hates every guy I’ve ever brought home— and even worse, they hate me. So I’m sorry if I’m a little pessimistic when it comes to relationships, but I can’t fucking afford to be all rainbows and sunshine about it.”
“I get it, Tink, I do—“
But she’s had enough of misunderstandings, enough of him pretending like it’s that easy to let go and trust. “No you don’t! And you don’t get to walk in and say all those nice things about me wasted off of your mind pretending like all along it’s you who’s been yearning! Ever since we were kids, Harry, it’s always fucking been you! All of it, everything. I was crushed when I met your first girlfriend, you know that? Fucking crushed!”
There’s fury in his eyes, a fire that keeps getting bigger and bigger, burning at the sight. “Why didn’t you fucking tell me then?”
“What did you expect me to do? You had never even looked at me twice!”
“You must know nothing about me if you really believe that.”
And it gets to a point where all she sees is red. He’s blurry in her line of vision, spewing words she can’t possibly digest in this moment.
She begins to walk away from him, cursing to herself like he can’t hear her. But he can, and he follows her every step.
“Is this how it’s going to go from now on? You’re going to walk away and pretend like nothing happened?”
“I don’t know what you want me to do.”
Frustration anchors at his every word and she can tell, even though she’s only able to hear his speech, that his eyebrows are pinched deeply, his forehead creased with intensity. She knows that he’s hurting to some capacity, that his heart is going wild in his chest.
He wraps his fingers around her wrist, tugging her back into his front. “Tink, just fucking look at me.”
Their chests collide, hearts equally beating faster for one another.
She stares into his eyes, waiting for something to be said, anything. But as seconds pass, and words still remain unspoken, her shoulders start to lose their tension and her heart plummets to the pit of her stomach.
He’s dangerous because she could never stay mad at him. She could never hate him, no matter how badly she wishes she could.
She clears her throat, but fails to move. She doesn’t find herself wanting to. “Harry.”
His eyes trail southward toward her mouth and she wishes so badly he would just kiss it. “Does it really matter what happened back when we were kids? Does anything other than what I said matter at all?”
She swallows around a lump in her throat, staring into the green of his eyes that have always had the power of swaying her in every which way. And as he’s doing the same to hers, the air shifts in a more familiar direction.
“I’m scared.”
He nods, “I know.” Interlacing their fingers with one hand, he allows the other to rest comfortably against her neck.
But she can no longer look at him, not when he’s so close, expecting her to open up to her like a flower in spring. “I can’t lose you, I wouldn’t forgive myself if I messed this up. I’ve wanted it for so long, but I’m bad at being more than a friend. I’m bad at saying what I truly feel, I’m bad at being the girl guys want to bring home to their parents. I’m bad at time management. I’m bad at being vulnerable . You know all this about me, but it was always different before. With you it was easier. But if this were to happen… you’d get to know my ugly sides.”
His eyes are glassy, as are hers. From the outside they probably look like a mourning couple, one at the brink of heartbreak. And in a way, this feels similar to every heartbreak she’s been through, only this time the risk of loss is much greater. And so is the sense of hope.
“Y/N, when I asked you last night about Tom,” he nudges a finger underneath her chin, coaxing her to look at him, “I asked because for fourteen years, I’ve always felt like I wasn’t enough for you. At first I thought you would never be into me. You were too smart, too confident. It’s ridiculous, I know, but we were teenagers,” he smiles at the memory. “But then I joined the band and I didn’t want to expose you to a world I hadn’t fully understood myself. I didn’t want you to have to deal with all of that, so I tried to protect you. I hid you from the cameras, lied to people when they asked me about you. Clearly I didn’t do it very well because you just told me it still got to you—“
“That’s not-“
He squeezes her fingers, a silent appreciation of her reassurance, “but I tried my best, you know? I’ve always kept my distance because I didn’t want this — everything I do and everything I am — to become a burden to you. Because I’ve always loved you. I’ve always wanted to make you happy, to be the best guy for you. There were times I didn’t know it, sure, but deep down I’ve always known it’d be you, Tink. These last few years I just wasn’t sure I was enough. Because you deserve the best a person could get.”
“Of course you’re enough, H.”
“I still think you deserve better than me, baby, so much better. But if you give me a chance, I promise I’ll try my best. I love you as you are; whatever you call your ugly side, that doesn’t exist to me. You’re you, Tink, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I’m done cowering away because I’m scared of fucking up and I’m begging you to do the same. Let go with me and explore this. Please.”
She supposes this feeling in her chest is so indescribable because she’s never felt it so intensely before, but it resembles sheer and raw admiration. There’s a hint of fear brewing in the deep abyss, but hope surfaces at the top. And as she looks into the eyes of the love of her life, she sees safety. Love. A Future. Together.
Her face inches closer, “I’m so terrified of losing you.”
He nudges his nose against hers. “Won’t let it happen, I promise. You’re never getting rid of me.”
A smile breaks out on her face.
“Then kiss me, H.”
And so he does.

That‘s a wrap! Hope you liked it :)

At 20 years old, Miles Edgeworth’s only mentor tells him never to step foot into his opponent’s territory lest he fail to crush them in court. 4 years later, Edgeworth enters Defendant Lobby No. 1 to warn opposing counsel Phoenix Wright about Redd White’s decisive testimony.
Some post-AAI1 reflections + how Phoenix unravels Miles from the very moment they meet again.
After playing through the original trilogy, up to 4-2 on Apollo Justice, and all of Ace Attorney Investigations 1, I couldn’t help but jot down my (admittedly incomplete) thoughts about Phoenix and Edgeworth’s relationship, especially as it pertains to Miles’ “unraveling,” or his departure from von Karma’s teachings.
We already know von Karma had no love for Edgeworth. Crushing the late Gregory Edgeworth’s legacy under the guise of mentoring his son (and eventually ruining his career at its peak) was von Karma’s last act of hatred towards the departed.
From Miles’ perspective, however, von Karma was an accomplished teacher to whom he owed his gratitude and career’s success. This is important because Edgeworth’s actions are fundamentally motivated by his desire to express his “gratitude,” repay debts, and honor legacies.
His debt to von Karma compels him to strive for the perfection his mentor obsesses over. Achieving perfection takes the form of absorbing von Karma’s teachings, among them the AAI1 screenshot from earlier: only face your opponent in court, and make sure you crush them when you do it.
We know for a fact that the “demon prosecutor” internalizes von Karma’s teachings. He follows them to a T.

So, following 15 years of indoctrination, 4 years of putting the von Karma creed into practice, and an entire childhood AND early adulthood’s worth of gratitude, you’d THINK Edgeworth wouldn’t dare dishonor him…
Until he does, by coming to the defendant lobby to speak to his “enemy.”
Prior to playing AAI1, I thought the impetus for Edgeworth’s character development was 1-3, wherein he reevaluated the facts of the case and helped Phoenix get Dee Vasquez a guilty verdict. I still think 1-3 was the first time he consciously acknowledged the possibility (keyword: possibility) that his prosecutorial upbringing wasn’t..sound…(lmao!)
But with this AAI1 von Karma and Bratworth interaction, I now believe it was 1-2—with Edgeworth subconsciously disregarding his mentor’s teachings and Phoenix acting as the catalyst—that shows us when he first strayed from the path of a Von Karma.
An aside: Do I think AAI1 Bratworth was perfectly characterized? Not at all; he’s much too noble for that era of his life, though I don’t think it affects my case.
Edgeworth is a man full of contradictions. He comes to the defendant lobby to tell Phoenix his case is hopeless, though he has no obligation to disclose—nor has he ever set a precedent of disclosing—decisive witnesses’ information to his opponents.
He tells Phoenix he’ll do anything to get a guilty verdict, yet he warns the defense that his witness’s testimony will be considered infallible, prompting the player (Phoenix) to dissect the following testimonies with more care.

He tells Phoenix not to expect any special treatment from him, yet his very presence in the defendant’s lobby is in direct opposition to his respected mentor’s wishes.

It takes just one appearance from Phoenix for the filaments of von Karma’s indoctrination to unravel. 4 years into his career, Edgeworth has met many attorneys—most notably, Mia Fey—who embody Phoenix’s faith in his clients, yet none could shake his foundations like Phoenix Wright.
Edgeworth may have not been ready to turn a new leaf upon his first encounter with Phoenix, but the fact that a loose thread from his childhood (that’s emblematic of his innocence, his dreams, and dare I say his father’s drive) ultimately leads to his unraveling is poetry if I’ve ever seen it.
TL;DR Phoenix deconstructs Edgeworth like he was born to do so. The moment Phoenix decided to chase after him, Edgeworth had already lost.

Heyo @the-final-sif, I am your pinchhitter! I hope you enjoy this ^^
I really liked your prompts, but I did not know how to put them into one drawing. And even as short comic I did not fit all the aspect I wanted into it, but alas I did not have that much time, so I tried to make it work fdkjjhk
Hope you don't mind me sharing the prompt for context!
Hybrids aren't born hybrids, but rather traits show up as they grow up. They can appear at a pretty wide range of ages, and not all traits show up at once. Stress can delay when they show up, just like any other form of growth. Generally, most traits show up before or during puberty, but they can even turn up as late as early adulthood :).
c!Dream is an Ender Dragon hybrid, though he doesn't know it just yet. It's been a few days since c!Quackity came by, but he's been feeling very strange. Like something's growing out of him.
It all hits at once, and the next moment he's got wings, big claws, sharp teeth, purple fire coming from his mouth and the lava isn't burning him anymore. He barely has time to take this all in before he hears c!Quackity's singsong voice on the other side of the lava, and in a moment his new instincts take over, ready for revenge.

BIRTHDAY SUIT — NANAMI KENTO
↳ Summary: It's Nanami's 35th birthday, and he swears he doesn't want anything. This is unacceptable.
↳ CW: established relationship, suggestive, can be read as g/n
↳ WC: 1.4k
↳ AN: Happy birthday to my glorious blonde king who deserves all of the softest things in the world. My contribution to the "Happy Birthday" prompt for Nanami Week... but it's an international holiday anyway.
Kento insisted he didn’t want anything for his birthday.
“It’s not about the number,” he said. “Thirty-five is just thirty-four with slightly stiffer knees.”
Then: “I just don’t want a fuss. No gifts. No reservations. No singing, fuck — anything but the singing.”
This, as he spread marmalade over his toast at the breakfast table.
You squinted at him over your coffee. “Not even cake?”
He paused. A single breath’s worth of consideration.
“...Cake is fine,” he allowed. “But only that. And you.”
A gentleman’s compromise, you supposed.
He was never someone who wanted much. He kept his desires manageable, and the small hankerings that did emerge in the day to day were either indulged immediately or squashed as they sprung up.
And what enjoyment was there to be derived from prolonged social interaction anyway? Prolonged social interaction in which he, Nanami Kento, was the sole focus and center of attention? Where people watched him squirm, pretending to be touched while they handed him things he didn’t need and would only collect dust in the closet, and the god awful singing where he didn’t know what to do with his hands much less his face—
But that didn’t stop you from trying every tactic at your disposal: whining, bargaining, seduction, moral seduction, weaponized snuggling. You coiled around his shoulders like a lovesick python in linen pajamas, chin on his shoulder complete with wide-eyes and a wobbling lip.
“Just one present?” you asked sweetly. “A balloon? A silly hat? Come on, baby, work with me here.”
He smiled indulgently, patting your hand with firm resolve knowing damn well he wouldn’t budge but respected the effort anyway.
“Don’t waste money,” he rumbled through your ribs. “I’d rather take you on vacation soon.”
“But it’s your birthday,” you pleaded. “Don’t you want to be adored like the special little guy you are?”
Kento did not so much as blink.
You tried again over dinner. Again while brushing your teeth. Again, nuzzled into his neck in bed like a cat, hoping sleepiness would pacify him into acquiescence.
“Adulthood is a punishment,” he slurred into your hair, “and I already celebrate the only good part of it every day.”
(You elected to take that as a compliment.)
So you let it go. Kind of.
No dinner reservations or wrapped boxes, no group texts. No glittery “HAPPY BIRTHDAY” banners that would shed sequins into every corner of the house for an eternity and a half. You behaved.
Mostly.
Your rebellion was quiet. A siege disguised as surrender.
You woke early to press the coffee extra dark. You cooked him breakfast, arranged it prettily with a vase of trimmed daffodils from the garden box in your yard, and hummed your way through packing a bento — slipping in extra ginger chicken and cutting fruit into stupid little heart shapes.
When your arms looped around his neck to kiss him goodbye, you whispered Happy Birthday against his lips like it was drive safe.
He smiled, pinching your chin to tilt your face up to him in order to kiss you once more.
You pressed into him, standing on your toes to drag your body up the length of his, letting him feel every inch of you.
His hands tightened reflexively, kneading handfuls of your hips like they’d been fitted to his palms. You felt his breath hitch, then falter entirely when you kissed him deeper, tongue and teeth and a filthy little whimper in the base of your throat for good measure. He groaned into you like he’d forgotten there was an outside world out there.
You pulled away first and he made a choked, strangled sound in the back of his throat. He still hovered in the nip of your waist, stunned by the sudden absence of you.
“Gift enough for me,” he said hoarsely, sweeping his tongue across his lower lip. His pupils were blown black and hungry. “...Until I get my hands on you later.”
You let him make it to the door.
Then, just before it clicked shut, you called sweetly after his back:
“If you want, I’m more than happy to do that thing you like later, too.”
The keys in his hand paused mid-jingle.
He didn’t turn around. Kento stood there, the tips of his ears going a lovely shade of pink. He cleared his throat.
“… Yes,” he said, voice rough, like he wasn’t thirty-five years old now and hard as a rock. “Please.” *
Evening arrived with nothing suspicious. No unsolicited affection aside from your usual eagerness to clamber directly into his lap before he’d taken his shoes off.
You watched him sort the mail, and watched him unbutton his cuffs and slide off his harness in his nightly striptease for an audience of one. You listened to the water hiss, then muffle against his skin while he disappeared into the shower.
You scurried to the bedroom on the balls of your feet.
Kento emerged, towel slung haphazardly around his hips, hair wet and dark against his temples. “I was thinking,” he mused aloud, “I'd like to order in tonight. I’ve been craving that Thai place we went to—”
He was still rubbing his hair dry with one hand when he turned the corner into the bedroom.
The towel in his hand stilled. Then fell. The one at his waist gave a valiant wobble, saved only by the grace of his hipbone and a weak knot.
Because this was not where he left you. Much less how.
Back straight, legs crossed, flipping lazily through a book you absolutely weren’t reading (it may have been upside down), dressed in what could generously be described as lingerie, and more accurately described as a bow pretending to be clothing. Absolutely the sort of outfit you had to first psych yourself into buying, and then harder into keeping.
There were bows. There was lace. There was barely anything else.
Kento froze, tawny eyes fixed on you. His nostrils flared. His jaw twitched once, then locked, the herculean effort of restraint forcibly cranked into place.
His gaze swept over you like he meant to memorize it — thighs, the decadent dip of your waist, the ample swell of your chest not even pretending to be veiled by translucent lace. His throat bobbed, and his hands creaked into fists at his sides.
You snuck a glance at him and caught the faintest, involuntary shiver ripple down his spine, goosebumps raising the hair on his arms to stand at attention. (It wasn’t the only thing…)
He looked physically pained — like you were some lofty thing kept high on a pedestal, and not the gifted goddess you were laying readily in his bed. Oh yeah, you felt a lot more confident in your purchase now.
You didn't look up. You turned a page nonchalantly, biting the inside of your cheek to keep from giggling and kicking your feet.
“...Well,” he said, his voice dry, his pupils not. “It must be my lucky day.”
You hummed. “Mm?”
Somewhere behind his eyes, Kento’s higher reasoning was being chewed to confetti by the hungrier parts of him. He was short circuiting — that sharp mind of his fatally-jammed between thighs and act civilized.
“I said no gifts,” he rasped. “You’re—this is not—”
You finally looked up, all innocent doe-eyes and fluttering lashes, liquid affection in your syrupy smile.
“This?” you echoed. “Kento, please. I wear this all the time. You’ve just never noticed.”
Kento scoffed, the towel pitched forward with visible betrayal as he stalked toward the bed, hiking up the knot at his hip with one hand.
His hand found your ankle, then curled around it softly. He dragged his touch upward, savoring the slow expression of your freshly waxed calf, knee, thigh — yeah, you even waxed, too.
“You spoil me,” he swallowed thickly.
“Uh huh,” you chirped.
“You haven’t even unwrapped your present—”
With no warning, he grabbed your foot and yanked.
Your book flew. You shrieked. Kento chuckled — low and delighted, growling menacingly as you slid like silk down the mattress.
Kento climbed on top of you, broad shoulders blotting out the light, furiously nuzzling your neck into the mattress and layering hungry, open-mouthed kisses down your throat, pinning you under the full weight of his appreciation; he growled his pleasure like a satisfied animal.
“Hush,” he murmured against your skin, grinning and nosing against the lace at your collarbone.
“Let me unwrap my gift, then.”
