I had some fun and did a redesign of Todd_McFarlane's main dude, Spawn! I'm going to maybe do some other Image characters. Let me know what ya'll think.

ppl keep saying this song lyric or that card was foreshadowing mizu5 when really it was just referencing an established fact about mizuki such as "she likes to run away" or "she's keeping her distance from the others." BUT i think the actual most interesting piece of mizu5 foreshadowing is this:

in the rooftop scene, mizuki says "i lied to her just now" after promising ena she'll tell her the secret someday. this line being the title of the episode draws attention to it and makes sure we remember

except at that point, it wasn't much of a lie. we see going forward that mizuki does want to try and share her secret.

then mizu5 comes along and that's when we realize it was a lie after all, even if mizuki herself didn't know why. because in the end, she never does tell ena.

mizurui to me is like. defined by their tragedy. they were there for each other when they had barely anyone and that fact will never leave them. their inherent loneliness lingers, the isolated rooftop synonymous with each other, comforting and familiar if just a little sad.

but they were never what the other needed - they needed someone they had more in common with than simple loneliness. but what if they never met that someone? what if they put themselves out there and got hurt for it? better to stay here, on the rooftop, where they were safe and stagnant and secure.

of course, we know that change is inevitable, and they were eventually able to leave the rooftop and meet people who inspired them to grow in a way they never could have for the other. they were never going to help the other down when they were both on the same ledge. the love did not save them but it was there and so on and so forth

ena5 card story spoilers below cut

Rui: …That said, you and I both seem to be weak to forceful approaches. Mizuki: Eh? …. Oh, I see. You were worn down in the same straightforward way, right Rui? Rui: … Yes. With nothing but earnest, passionate, straightforward feelings, I was. Mizuki: I felt like that, too.

Mizuki: …If it's like that, I might not stand a chance against Ena. Rui: Fufufu. We both have quite troublesome friends, don't we? Mizuki: We sure do!

Minor TL notes:

Rui uses 友人(yuujin), instead of his usual referral to WxS and its members as 仲間 (nakama.) This is quite significant to him and Mizuki, as nakama means something along the lines of someone you are in a team with, like a coworker or groupmate. Yuujin is something more like personal friend, and has a lot of significance between Mizuki and Ena especially. I just thought this was interesting ( • u • )

Mizuki’s “don’t stand a chance against Ena” (絵名に勝てないかも) is a phrase I’m not sure how to put… it’s like, I can never get a leg up on her, she’ll always win. But like, emotionally. Like Mizuki can’t stay away from her lmaooo 🏳️‍🌈

Also I had some trouble translating ガツン into normal english without the onomatopoeia making them sound like they’re talking in Emu language lol

edit: misread yuujin as tomodachi 💀 which is my bad because rui would use that instead of tomodachi with the way he speaks

rui is a very silly billy who kisses all his friends on the cheek platonically. it’s normal to him so whenever he smooches newer friends/the friends who aren’t as close as, say, wxs, they will freak out and he has to explain to them that it’s not romantic.

he did this to tsukasa when the unit was still very new and he got flustered and thought rui had a crush on him, but he didn’t. rui smooches him only on the head now because of it (because society decided that’s platonic…)

emu kisses him back :))))))))))

nene is just used to it at this point and is unfazed/barely notices when he gives her a little peck (also.. qpr ruinene?? :3)

can you tell i hate societal norms.. we should be able to kiss our friends platonically without being accused of having a crush on them >:/ like bahh i dont want to date you i just want to smooch you

Shin and Denki are already compared to Aizawa and Mic, why not add Izu to complete the trio

ok here's my final take on mizu5 (last one i promise)

there is no version of this event where mizuki chickens out and delays the big conversation even more. she's come too far for that. if she'd gotten the chance, she would have told ena.

but there is also no version of this event with a happy ending. she would always run away right after the secret is revealed because every version of that conversation would cause her unbearable pain.

that's why she said "i might as well have someone else say it for me." because the end result is exactly the same.
