one of my fave, most potent, and extremely subtle pieces of grand inquisitor characterization comes from this section in secret academy: dhara detailing her gift for passive divination & the grand inquisitor's attempts to essentially use her as a living scrying tool. jason fry, the author of the servants of the empire series also had this to say:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the grand inquisitor saw the writing on the wall, but couldn't make out the words. he was nervous, he was manic. he feared for project harvester's exposure. tarkin was investigating area null (though how much the grand inquisitor and brendol knew about his snooping is unclear. lieutenant chiron was undercover and may not have been tarkin's first spy).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the grand inquisitor had foresight enough to see the inquisitorius was a short-term solution to the jedi issue. he feared obsolescence. he needed dhara to fill in the empty spaces he couldn't see, and when she, an untrained precognate, couldn't, he'd impatiently lash out like he were pressed for time, running out of it. but brendol HAD their long-term solution. the empire needed children, and force-sensitives are always born, but dark-siders are made. and they, like hux's cadets, could fill the ranks indefinitely. loyal to their creators, to their emperor, and a threat to those obsolescent.

Tidal Tower was one of the student housing buildings of Arkanis Academy, with the top floor being the most coveted for its splendid view. Naturally it was reserved for top scoring cadets.
But even being the best was not enough. Commandant Hux refused to rent out rooms on the top level to the best cadets, if they didn't also pass his personal threshold of excellence. That resulted in the top floor often being unoccupied.
Tumblr media
That night Tidal Tower saw an unexpected visitor who was neither a student nor an instructor and in fact only loosely affiliated with the academy... the inquisitor Red Ice, the current head of Project Harvester.
Tumblr media
"I've heard the prisoners from Endor were put up here and your presence just nicely confirmed this, sergeant. I need to... talk to them."
Now every inquisitor held authority over any military member up to and including officers while on a mission. Red Ice wasn't on such a mission right now and his master, Lord Vader, was most likely dead, so no more borrowed authority for the dark side user.
However, admitting to know of (and to believe in) Vader's death wouldn't have been a wise move in the face of one who commanded crowd control powers. Red Ice could make the sergeant and his two troopers fight each other to the death, if he wanted. And so the elite soldier resorted to a meek:
"Have you come for the child, Sir? It's not here anymore. And Lady Hux would, if possible, find the prisoners still alive tomorrow."
Tumblr media
"I'll see what I can do in this regard."
TAKE A SMOKING BREAK.
A mental command too strong to resist. In fact, even the two non-smokers of the group momentarily had trouble to not ask their companion for a smoke stick while the trio rode down the elevator to the breakroom.

Ros Korine, Project Harvester's firstborn and Commandant Hux and the Grand Inquisitor’s eldest adoptee from my fic To Gain the Harbor! Notes/details under the cut ✂️
(also much love and thanks to @ct-hardcase for helping me with the design of her footwear <333 your input is as always invaluable)
Ros was an engineering student at Eriadu Academy before Brendol poached her for Project Harvester. Up until her early-teens, she was training to be a ballerina by her strict stage mother, but there was another path ;)
The "listening needles" on her back are her own engineering invention. They are inspired by the dressmaker pins she used to get poked with as she was fitted for dance outfits.
Tumblr media
Like Brendol's Commandant's Cadets, Ros pledges her loyalty to the Grand Inquisitor and is tasked with protecting him. She spies on the other Inquisitors who seek to usurp him. She sticks these listening needles throughout Nur, and they work like GSM bugs/EDIC mini-recording devices. They also double as torture implements so she can extract info more proactively! Super efficient, Ros, good job 👍
Tumblr media
(translation: Wookiee Strength Hold) (lol)
Ros uses the same brand of pomade as papa #1, Brendol. He gifts it to her. I have a cute little scene I'm brainstorming for Harbor involving her, the Grand Inquisitor, Brendol, and Imp hair-care. Evil family values~
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ros bandages her hands and feet as she has nervous habits involving her nails. And duh, I wanted to translate some design elements from the labors of ballet craft.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm still designing additional pieces for her final look such as her boat cloak (to hide her needles), helmet, and lightsaber so this is still a WIP technically.
Presently my mood board looks like this:

Armitage wasn't the only child with a new sibling on Arkanis.
At the edge of campus, where Project Harvester was housed, Caroline Tchelmi and the newly arrived Gavin Dree discovered that they had the same favorite color. A vicious argument whether green was a boy- or a girl color, and which of them subsequently was the odd one, ensued.
Tumblr media
The younglings' high-pitched babbling and the constant drizzle, that had forced him out of his robes and into a raincoat, made it difficult to concentrate on the majesty of the dark side for seven year old John Spilph.
Maybe if Harvester had owned a real sanctuary instead of a corner in this straight-lined academy with all its trees and flowers, that would help getting into the spirit of things!
His master not being required to wear such demeaning garb only fueled the boy's frustration.
Tumblr media
John: "When will I get my own lightsaber, master?"
Hank: "When you can take one from a light side user and bend the crystal inside it to your will!"
John: "That... will take some time."
Hank: "Or we could buy you an artificial crystal. Industrially raised kyber crystals are always red, no one would notice the difference."
Tumblr media
Hank "Red Ice" Sonderan now expected John to loudly protest that HE would know the difference, that a store-bought fake crystal would never be sufficient for him and he'd OF COURSE claim one by killing an enemy.
Instead the boy proclaimed:
"I don't want a pre-owned crystal!!! Let's shop for a new one!"
Tumblr media
Two replies formed in the man's mind. The part of him that identified as "Red Ice" the inquisitor immediately wanted to shout: "Pre-owned?! Do you even know what you're saying there, you ignorant little dipshit?!" What remained of Jedi-wannabe Hank Sonderan was more inclined to explain the matter to John in a way that would put the boy's worries to rest.
In the past, Red Ice had always reliably fought down his foolish, soft notions. Only for the last few days the drive to do so had lessened. For a moment the lightsaber's red blade turned a more purplish shade, as Hank turned around to calmly reply to his apprentice.
Tumblr media
Hank: "Each blade is new, it doesn't remember anything the previous one has accomplished - or failed to accomplish. Triumphs and Failures, all constantly starting over. There is no memory, and therefore there is no guilt or shame."
No change in color occured, the saber stubbornly kept glowing purple.
Hank: "We can do whatever we want, John! Concepts like wealth and status shouldn't mean anything to us."
Now the purple even intensified.
Hank (louder): "Stop thinking about how others might feel!"
There the red hue was back.
Tumblr media
Red Ice deactivated his saber. He'd check for a malfunction later. Worst case scenario he'd have to claim a new one from a light side user. But that was his job anyway, his function, the only reason he had been allowed to grow up.
Awesome and frightening as their powers appeared to mundanes, the inquisitors were nothing more than living tools to the Emperor, hunting dogs firmly leashed by Lord Vader.
Tumblr media
John: "But, master! Every blade comes from the same crystal! The saber's core! Doesn't that remember?"
Tumblr media
The core! Was there a core that encompassed both Hank Sonderan and Red Ice? Were those names just labels for different actions the man was taking or two seperate personas?
For example, if Hank was pondering to do something very unwise tonight, would he have to battle Red Ice in a mental duel first or was the dark side adept just a set of possible courses of actions, from which Hank could freely pick?
Maybe it didn't matter. What mattered was that something had changed enough in the galaxy to allow Hank to even think such rebellious thoughts in the first place. It wasn't hard to guess what that could only be.
Endor wasn't a lie. Vader had fallen for real. The Emperor might be dead - or severely crippled - too.

so in the 100 years that passed between awl and ds the only changes to the valley were:
mines are full of women’s accessories/skincare and also full of evil little farm animals and copies of you now
the mines are also full of mayor thomas who now has the powers of teleportation and ball retrieval and might also be god
the whole town is descended from the awl guys… woah everyone in awl had really strong genes…. wait a minute that means…. all the married couples are….oh
hey more cryptids moved in!
also sprites have increased by more than three thousand percent. wait where did they
telephone (teleport purchases over the phone) shopping
the inn has actually vacant rooms (at the cost of tei’s DS counterpart’s existence RIP)
the harvest sprites have unionized and also started a casino
now there’s an elegant phantom thief with magic powers who targets the 1 rich lady and then like 3 bumfuck nowhere mom and pop businesses. “tonight i’ll steal the vegetables” or you could just like go to the grocery store
whose boat is this…? yoink! mine now!
oh, you had a baby? Send In The Clowns

Harvest Moon Wolf
Tumblr media
The "harvest moon" (also known as the "barley moon" or "full corn moon") is the full moon nearest to the autumnal equinox (22 or 23 September), occurring anytime within two weeks before or after that date. The "hunter's moon" is the full moon following it.

Eeth Koth's daughter as a grown up
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is my version of Eeth Koth's daughter and how she would have grown. We only saw her as baby in the Darth Vader comics but even today we don't know her fate. Most probably she was raised by the inquisitors and indoctrinated by their beliefs but after the fall of the Empire she realized that she was manipulated and used as a weapon. She joined a more peaceful life as a Jedi after learning about her father's story and the old jedi order.

there's something in the way the grand inquisitor treats his inquisitors so coldly, like a father who's distanced himself from affection. "look at me, child," he says to iskat, then imparts his advice to her so she should succeed. but when she starts to test the limits of his approachability, asking more invasive questions about her prey, he becomes irritable and annoyed. he intervenes when the fight between her and seventh goes too far, but doesn't stay to see if seventh or iskat are okay. he later asks iskat if she's recovered, but iskat knows to keep it short because he doesn't want to hear a spiel. he says the pit was never intended to be a slaughterhouse, but he acquiesces to vader's ways after he realizes protesting on their behalf only reflects poorly on himself.
conversely, you have brendol who treats his cadets like he's desperate to be their Fun Dad. he brings them to the beach for a lesson, "at ease" he smiles, then tells them "we won't tell deedee". he asks them questions and wants their input. his body language is relaxed, he shows an interest in their curiosity and points of view (even if it is to his own ends). he even gives positive feedback to answers he doesn't agree with: "a fair point, cadet", "that's interesting, cadet. explain how.", "i like that answer, cadet. but [...]".
their shared involvement in bringing up children on arkanis speaks to a complementary partnership; where one lacks, the other supplies. but there's SOMETHING in the way the grand inquisitor's quarters are described as frozen and devoid of life while brendol's are congenial, outfitted with elegant rugs and styled classically. and there's something in the way brendol is cold and cruel to armitage, and the grand inquisitor once trained and protected young jedi in the temple.

WARNING-- Reaping Week is coming (Oct 26th - Nov 5th)
I've alluded to this a few times and chatted with a few ppl behind the curtain over this but I wanted to give a heads up to anyone who wants to either block the tag or do something to add to it!!
Tldr- if you want to avoid the more grim and possibly triggering stuff going on this week feel free to block #reaping week it won't be for everyone.
What is reaping week?
As @my-chemical-ratz helped me create the name for, reaping week is gunna be a Solarpunk (heavy on the punk) week of rebellion, rebuilding community and defiance!
Gathering its name both from the harvest season and from the Hunger Games reaping of tributes this week I'm gunna be posting things that are a little less cheery than my usual stuff. More focused in the anger, rightful rage, and how to direct it to action in your area. My hope is to build fires in all of us and burn some stuff down!!
What this going to include?
There's a few different facets I wanna cover---
Personal - DIY stuff. projects, local events, personal victories!
Sources of inspiration- as Solarpunk is built off of the idea of creating something to bring it to life I'm also going to be shoving certain media in your face that might give you food for thought, music to listen to while planning your rebellion, or quotes/movies/books to consume to inspiration your directed rage to a proper target.
How to organize and and build community directly in your area + Histoical movements (bread and roses, union strikes, things that have worked in the past)
Can I contribute/use the tag/join?
ABSOLUTELY BABES!! While I currently only plan on doing this with the stuff I've been saving over a few months in my queue everytime I got to pissed off to be hopeful, feel free to do your own works/posts as wanted!
Have a fave union victory? Share it!
Have a recommended piece of media that stokes fire and passion in you? Share it! Send it my way!
Wanna show off some grim and angry project or vent about how things are terrible? This is your chance!
