In the US, most rescues don't require that the cat goes outside, but almost every cat rescue I've ever seen supports TNR/"""community cats""". They use their revenue to lobby (aka bribe politicians) for laws like the one they're currently attempting in California: to exempt cats from animal abandonment laws. As someone who works in bird conservation I absolutely don't want my donations or adoption fees supporting that sort of nonsense, but I've never encountered a rescue that DOESN'T support it, which is immensely frustrating.

Exempting cats from animal abandonment laws seems pretty counterintuitive…. Don’t those rescues want cats to be in loving homes? Like even if TNR was helpful, surely they realize living in a home is better than roughing it on the streets? What a bizarre point of view.

It does seem to be the same here in Canada though, with rescues and TNR programs being connected like that. I wouldn’t want my money to fund programs like that either, especially if they’re lobbying for changes in laws like that. It doesn’t seem to benefit anyone— bird, cat, human, or otherwise.

patreon is a mess, but ko-fi has the same systems for a lot less of a headache. so! i now have a "patreon". it's very simple - i have a few misc pieces up for people who donate once, but mostly i will be uploading extra doodles and things i don't finish or generally think suit my social medias up for people who pay $5 a month to my kofi page! there's already a ton of stuff up - mostly doodles and things i never finished or haven't posted yet, but a couple WIPs for things that hopefully do get finished.

truly humbling to go from gifted kid and top of my high school class to only kid accepted to ivy league school to graduating with honors and one of two students to go onto a PhD program to president of your field’s professional association to the idiot who took eight years to graduate and the only graduate you know to be unemployed with zero job prospects after finishing said PhD program

Getting up at 5.45 tomorrow to go to a work seminar in Manchester at 9 to hopefully get back home for around 6.30 so I have time to make it to Leicester so I can go cinema with my mum and watch the Edward Scissorhands ballet broadcast at 7 so I can get back home for probably around 11pm so I can go to bed and get up for work again the next day at 6.55

This paycheck was skinnier than anticipated and I went waaaay over budget this grocery trip, I may have to try and sell some of my comics or tmnt stuff on ebay to make sure I have enough for rent :/
