Dolls are creepy.
But stuffed animals?
Yeah, absolutely.
“oh I’m too old for stuffed animals” skill issue. sorry you can’t appreciate little creatures made to hang out with you, I on the other hand am full of joyous whimsy and therefore vastly superior.

Your nephew is jealous of him
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pairing: ot7 BTS × Gn! reader (individually)
Genre: fluff, reactions, a bit of crack
Request: when they try to get close to the reader, their toddler niece/nephew won't let them. The baby is really possessive of y/n and doesn't like anyone touching them.
Warnings: some of them are almost fighting with the kids lmao; that's it.
A/n: this was actually so fun lmao | daily click

Jin
‌oh so this is his first trial to prove himself as boyfriend material, he sees
‌he's ready
‌will try to befriend your niece
‌is actually trying to enchant her and be like "hey I'm nice too :D"
‌and honestly it's working?
‌of course it is, bro is doing everything the little girl asks of him 😭
‌but his goal is not to steal you from your niece
‌is to steal your niece from you
‌being liked by the family ✔️
having a chance of being invited on next hangouts ✔️
impressing you by showing he's good with kids ✔️
‌he's so winning
Suga
‌he's honestly a bit confused
‌because why can't he be even three meters near you??
‌at first he thought the kid wanted to play with you or just missed you
‌but then he noticed the problem was him 💀
‌your nephew just low-key hates him
‌and actually, Yoongi ain't doing anything to change his mind
‌he's just chilling as far from you as possible
‌just so the kid doesn't make a scene
‌and when you laugh at him and try to get closer saying "it's okay"
‌he's like "please don't come any closer your nephew will attack me-"
‌kid 1, suga 0
J-hope
‌he thought it was funny
‌cute even
‌it was good to know kids liked you
‌that could only mean you were a very good person right?
‌well, now Hobi is the one who's almost becoming a bad person 💀
‌he can't handle your niece trying to take him away from you every. single. time
‌like hey, I like them too??
‌he's trying to either bribe her or just straight up calling her mother to take her away
‌"that's not mature" he doesn't care that much atp
‌he just wants a second with you without a kid screaming at him
Namjoon
‌he truly is trying to be the bigger person
‌he knows he is the adult and your nephew is just a little kid
‌but he is about to start beef with this child
‌he tried his best, but now he's just stressing😭
‌he really thought he could use this opportunity to get closer to your family but that's just too much
‌tries to leave you and the kid for a while and then he tries small talk with the rest of your family members
‌but if he comes back after a hour or two and your nephew is still being possessive
‌he's about to cling to you so the kid either makes a scene and is taken by his parents or just notice that he can't win
‌namjoon 1, kid 0
Jimin
‌he gives up
‌the kid can have whatever he wants, Jimin is not fighting him😭
‌in the beginning he tried to like talk with your nephew
‌negotiate even
‌but then the kid just starts screaming and kicking him when he tries to get close to you and he's like "yeah, no"
‌he can endure being away from you for a while
‌kid 1, jimin 0
Taehyung
‌i'm honestly surprised this kid likes you more than him because damn
‌he truly has his charms when it comes to kids
‌and I think your nephew would like him quite a lot honestly
‌that is until he decides to come close to you
‌and at first taehyung is just a little confused
‌but then he's offended
‌like "I thought we were friends?!"
‌is honestly more upset with the fact the child suddenly doesn't care about him when you're near than the fact he can't be around you
Jungkook
‌oh now this is a competition
‌"no, my niece is only three years old"
‌he doesn't care.
‌if she didn't wanna compete then she shouldn't have started it
‌he is trying to distract her like "oh look, an airplane"
‌and then he's running to you the moment she is busy with something else
‌and actually gets like 🤨😦😔 when he sees he lost for a child
‌actually relieved when the evening is over and you guys are going back home
‌ but if there's a next time, bro will make a whole war strategy and will be prepared

The Ghost King is my Uncle Drabbles
A/N: The original this sorta ties too: Original One Shot
>>Masterpost
Shovel Talks
Constantine swore up a storm of course only mentally. It wasn't like he was going to voice any of his thoughts right now. Not when he was faced with the good damn Ghost King. All he wanted was to summon one of his contracted demons to gather some information and what did he get the fucking Ghost King.
"Trench coat! We meet again. You worked on your manners, I hope?"
"Of course your majesty." Well he didn't but he avoided the freaking bats like crazy.
"Well I gotta thank you. Well you and my In-Law that's busy and asked me to substitute for your call since we meet and before and so on." The Ghost King casually waved his hand in a dismissive manner before looking around with his eyes sparkling in recognition and it sent a shudder down Constantine's back. "You are giving me the perfect opportunity."
Did… did the Ghost King just pull out a green glowing sword from a fucking portal and why did he have that glint in his eyes? Constantine paled. Why did this have to happen to him?
"If you will excuse me for a moment. I need to look for a Kryptonian real quick. I will deal with your problem right after. Promise."
With that the Ghost King phased through the floor apparently in search of Superman who just happened to be in the watchtower today. Fuck. Constantine run out of the room in mild panic and pushed whoever was on communication aside as he dialed for the bats. The moment someone on their end pick up he didn't bother to explain anything and just shouted for one of them to get their fucking ass here as fast as possible or superman was going to be history!
Okay that might also have sent the people witnessing his panic into chaos but this was a fucking emergency.
It was only minutes later that Batman did indeed arrived together with Nightwing and Red Robin with the Zeta-Tube at the watchtower to bear witness to Superman getting cornered by the Ghost King with Constantine bound by echo-bindings for apparently having annoyed the Ghost King with his pleading to spare the Kryptonian.
"Now I am sure I don't have to repeat myself but, IF you ever hurt Baby Bat a fate way worse than the Soul Shredder and the Nightmare Realm will be the least of your problems. The last guy that hurt my family is still in there and I will gladly make you permanently join him."
A cough resounded and Danny turned his head, a bright smile on his face as he spotted his little nephew and two of the little babies.
"Baby Bat, Baby Menace and Baby Stalker! I will be done in a little bit!"
"Ghost Ki-"
"Uncle Danny."
Batman let out a suffering sigh as Nightwing and Red Robin snickered.
"Uncle Danny. Why are you threatening Superman?"
"Because Jazz forbade me to use the Soul Shredder on humans but Superman is not human so I am allowed to use it on him."
"Uncle Danny, why do you want to use the 'Soul Shredder'" -as a joke Nightwing used air quotes- "on the him in the first place?"
"Shovel talk."
Batman chocked and Red Robin spluttered as Nightwing had a hard time suppressing a laugh. Constantine and Superman gapped at the Ghost King.
"You… are threading him for shovel talk purposes? What even is the nightmare realm?"
"A place you don't want to be in. Very traumatic and perfect to externally punish anyone that hurts my family in any regard as long as I am allowed to dump them there."
There was an added barely hearable grumble of "I would have sent the Joker and Ra's in there long ago if Clockwork weren't such a stick in the mud about keeping the timeline straight and their roles and bla bla bla."
Red Robin did a double take. Did the Ghost King just admit that he would have liked to sent their rogues into a place that was most likely hell? Wait didn't he mention sending someone in there permanently earlier.
No one noticed Superman slowly inching away from the blade still pointed at him while the Ghost King's attention wasn't on him. Well the bats noticed but didn't react to it, deeming it safer for the Super.
"Uh you said you dumped someone permanently in there?" Red Robin tried to keep the attention on them.
"Well yea." The Ghost King casually shrugged, adjusting the blade so Superman could no longer inch away from him. "I looked away from the Ice Mirrors for a week and someone dared to hurt Moma Bat. Of course I was enraged and snatched that guy off the street to permanently drop him in there."
There was a beat of heavy silence. Batman under his cowl bluescreened especially with how casually Danny just admitted at having snatched up his parents murderer to punish the man. Well that explained why he never found the culprit.
"Now If you excuse me little Babies I am gonna finish this talk with the Kryptonian and make sure he knows what will happen if he hurts Baby Bat."
With this the Ghost King turned back to the rapidly paling Superman with a feral grin. The Birds sweat dropped as Batman was still not mentally present, his mind still working through the information.
"Think I would be able to borrow that sword?" Red Robin suddenly asked as Nightwing eyed Batman worringly. "He only said that Great Grandma forbade him to use it on humans. He never said we couldn't."
"Don't let Robin or Hood hear that." Nightwing said, even if he wanted to borrow it himself too. With B mentally still checked out he had to act as the responsible one. That wouldn't stop him from asking their Ghost Uncle later if he could borrow the sword anyway.

Mitch Ripley & Marley

Seperation!Series:
Marley 2.0 - Mitch doesn't realise your hiding a secret from him.
Not Your Problem - Mitch feels you pulling away from him.
Pill Popping - Mitch confronts LJ about what happened in St Clair.
Not Enough - Mitch realises he won't ever be enough for you after you reveal what happened in St Clair.
Tumblr media
Despite his protests Mitch has to have mandatory counselling. He’s made it clear to Doctor Charles and Ms Goodwin that his overdose was not intentional but they both agree he’s had a lot on his plate. If he wants to return to work he needs to be signed off by a mental health professional which is why he ends up in Elle Abrams office, discussing the collapse of his marriage in painstaking detail.
“I’m filing for a separation.” He tells her as he stares down at the bag where the envelop resides. “I’m going to drop the paperwork off at her parents’ house this afternoon, Marley’s been staying there since I told her I can’t give her kids.”
You should take the house, you had told him. You built that place with your own hands, it’s only fair.
He knows that’s not the real reason. That place, it’s the only home he’s ever really known and you want him to have that, for him to have a place where he feels safe especially in the midst of all this upheaval.
“Can we circle back to that?” Elle asks him. “You say you can’t…”
“It’s nothing physical.” He tells her, shaking his head. “It’s just… You know the kind of father I would be with my history.”
“Do you think you’d hurt a baby?” Elle asks him and he gives her a contemptuous look. “That you’d neglect it?”
“Of course not!”
Elle inclines her head and he realises his reaction to her words was exactly the point.
“You are more than your childhood Mitch, you aren’t doomed to repeat the mistakes your mother made. The fact you’re here, actively engaging proves that.” Elle reminds him and those words, they stick in his brain.
He goes home to an empty house and he thinks about that. He thinks about how his history taints his view of the world, how hard it is for him to see beyond it. He thinks about your nephews, the time he’s spent with them over the past couple of years and the yearning he feels in his chest when he sees you interact with them.
Before you he never envisioned getting married, owning a home, starting a family. They were tickboxes on someone else’s list but being with you it opened him up to a world of possibilities, his life became, richer, fuller.
“Do you really not want kids?” Elle had asked him at the end of their session. “Or are you letting your past dictate your future?”
It’s a question that Mitch doesn’t have the answer to just yet.
Love Mitch? Don’t miss any of his stories by joining the taglist here.

AITA, Reddit?
So I (60M) grew up the crown prince of this country bent on world conquest. I figured I might as well as get involved in the family business, so I joined in and spent a few decades conquering places. This had the added benefit of making my divine monarch father (95 M but he's dead) happy, plus I knew from a dream I had when I was seven that I had a divinely blessed destiny to conquer Ba Sing Se, which is like the biggest city ever.
Anyways, this whole "conquering things" and burning them down went on for a while, and I even got my wonderful son (20M but also dead unfortunately) involved too. All the while my younger brother(45M) was jealous and would often throw temper tantrums about my success. He would complain that our dad favored me over him, what was absolutely not true at all. I loved my brother to death though but he just never seemed to really grow up. I think it's my fault maybe for not guiding him properly.
Anyways, eventually my brother married my sister in law(35F). They seemed like a great match and were having kids in no time. They had two kids, my nephew (17M) who I took a liking to even when he was a baby and a girl (15F) who always seemed fussy and unfeminine.
Anyways, when my nephew was like 8 myself and my son took off with a huge army to besiege Ba Sing Se for like 600 days. It was bloody affair but you can't go carrying out world conquest and fulfilling destinies without breaking a few hundred thousand eggs. I even got my nephew a gift I looted from an enemy general, a knife with a really cool inscription. I sent the girl a gift too because I had to, a doll or something similar that I looted; I hoped it would make her more proper girly and less of a tomboy.
We were winning the siege and about to conquer the city but then unfortunately my beloved son was killed by an enemy soldier. I was overcome by grief and immediately ordered the army to withdraw. I then left it in the middle of combat and personally left. I know it sounds bad but you have to understand that my son dying was the worst thing ever to happen to anyone and totally justifies it. I went on a bit of a walkabout around and realized this whole "world conquest," "conquering," and "ruling the world" thing just wasn't for me anymore. I really just felt like retiring but of course I was the crown prince so I really couldn't.
Fortunately, when I got back home, I found that my brother had murdered my father and sister in law and stolen the throne. I know it sounds bad but boys will be boys and I didn't want it anymore so I didn't really care. My brother was even really chill about me being back home again and invited me to all his war meetings. I think he was showing off his power or something; it was really adorable. Anyways I kind of felt the whole war thing wasn't very morally good at this point but I still did my best to give valuable advice at the war meetings.
So everything was working out surprisingly well but there was one massive problem. The girl was just completely taking the limelight away from my nephew. She was really smart and good at fighting and fiercely competitive and everything, everything a girl shouldn't be. She played with fire, not dolls. I expected her father to smack her down and put her in her place, but instead he lavished attention on her and neglected his son instead. He began disparaging my nephew and comparing him negatively to the girl, which was very wrong since she was someone who should be focused on having babies and getting married while my nephew was the first born son and the crown prince and deserved accolades for that alone. But to be clear, this was all the girl's fault, not my brother's fault. He never was the best at controlling himself and retaining a clear mind and she took advantage of that by trying to impress her father rather than quieting her competitive spirit and letting her brother maintain his proper place. Plus she criticized my decision to abandon the whole siege thing, which is not how you're supposed to treat a respected elder.
Anyways, all of this made me feel wrong. I really wanted to discipline the girl but she had her father bewitched and there is zero chance he'd allow that, but I figured I could at least give my nephew some positive attention for a change. I got to know him better and he reminded me both of my brother when he was younger and my own son, and I realized I had kind of found two second chances (or maybe even three) in one with him, so I really made a real effort to support him. My nephew could be mean and disrespectful and violent and impulsive, but I always knew he had pure heart behind it all.
Anyways, things were going OK for a while but then they suddenly got much worse. My brother had unjustly banned my 13 year old nephew from a war meeting(probably the girl's fault somehow), so I let him in. Then my nephew, with his big, pure heart, verbally attacked a general for a callous plan, so my brother challenged my nephew to a duel and burned him when he didn't fight back. I just kind of watched (but I'm pretty sure my niece was smirking about the whole thing).
Anyways, I felt kind of guilty about the whole thing, so when my brother banished my nephew to look for the Avatar(a demigod who hadn't been seen for 100 years), I went with my nephew even though what I really wanted to do was stay retired and drink tea all day. This search went on for three whole years as my nephew threw tantrums and randomly attacked people in his search, but boys will be boys and I knew he had a pure heart. I tried to encourage good qualities in him by giving him proverbs but I'm not sure if he got any (but I like my proverbs too much to stop using them). I tried to teach him better firebending but he never really had the patience for it. I guess I tried to get my nephew to stop and smell the roses but that was never going to work.
Eventually the actual Avatar(12 M) showed up (I wasn't expecting that!). The chase went on for another few months. I helped my nephew when I could and encouraged him to keep up the chase, but ultimately we ended at the Northern Water Tribe, where I helped a crazy Admiral named Zhao (45 M) as he tried to conquer the NWT but it was all only to cover for my nephew trying to catch the Avatar. Zhao gave off a lot of self-destructive conquest vibes(I should know-conquest was me at some point) but I still helped him. Anyways, Zhao tried to destroy the moon, I had to try to stop him, it kind of worked, and my nephew and I were forced to flee south on a raft.
We spent some time in a resort, but then the crazy girl showed up and claimed my brother wanted us back. I knew that was sus as hell, it turned out my brother wanted to imprison us (but I'm sure the girl was putting him up to it but unfortunately he never changes his mind once he's made it) for our actions at the NWT, the girl tried to capture myself and my nephew but failed at it, my nephew tried to put the girl in her place, which was a good idea, but he wasn't strong enough, which made it a bad idea, I ended up kicking the girl off a ship, and we escaped. I was sure she was right behind us, so we decided to hide as refugees in the Earth Kingdom.
We spent some time fleeing and hiding in that, I had a brief falling out with my nephew since he was a bit too handsy with other people's things, we reconciled, we hooked up with a couple of members of an old secret fraternal organization of mine, and we headed to Ba Sing Se to hide as refugees. Along the way, my beloved nephew tried to put his crazy sister in her place a couple times, but he wasn't strong enough and it was a bit of bad idea, so I tried to teach him better firebending so he'd have better luck next time. I'll be honest, his attitude was a bit frustrating. I almost forgot to mention this but also at a certain point Zuko and I teamed up with the Avatar to try to put Azula in her place and we trapped her but she got away and I got burned for my trouble. And apparently Zuko and the Avatar couldn't play nice with each other since by the time I woke up they were separated. What can I say?
To get back on track, we headed to Ba Sing Se as refugees, hooked up with another refugee boy who stole food from the captain of our ferry for us. It was surprisingly fun to visit as a tourist the city I had spent so many years trying to conquer and reduce to ashes. I know this sounds bad, but trust me it's not. After being exposed to the abomination which was the local tea, Zuko and I got jobs as tea shop attendants making superior Fire Nation tea, although Zuko didn't like it much even though I told him to accept this was now his destiny. The other refugee boy accused us of being Firebenders but fortunately got taken away by the secret police and we ended up becoming owners of a tea shop, the Jasmine Dragon. It felt like a perfect way to fulfil our destinies and spend my retirement, but Zuko still wanted to capture the Avatar. It was a pain in the ass but boys will be boys, I suppose. I had to rescue him from a secret police compound to prevent him from doing anything really stupid. After that, Zuko finally started to accept his destiny and be happy!
Just when everything was going perfectly, the girl showed and ruined everything. She captured Zuko as part of her coup to seize control of the Earth Kingdom, and I had to team up with the Avatar to try to get him back. It was at that moment I knew Zuko's true destiny was to join up with the Avatar and restore balance to the world! It made perfect sense for once. Zuko was the only one pure enough and true hearted enough and with the right blood to do this; I certainly never could. I just needed to ask Zuko to look into his heart and he'd do it! But again that bitch ruined everything. She manipulated Zuko, that poor boy who didn't know better, into siding with her and her father and betraying me. Into fighting against the Avatar and helping her conquer Ba Sing Se, conquer my city to conquer. She almost killed the Avatar and I had to sacrifice myself to allow him and his little girlfriend to escape. Sometimes your kids will get killed.
I was captured but not powerless now. As I began plot my escape, I also thought about how to influence Zuko into becoming the perfect pure prince I knew he could be, into becoming the friend of the Avatar I knew was his true destiny, into breaking him out of the influence of his evil sister and his father who never quite treated him right. It was easier then I thought. A couple fake cold shoulders (although that hurt a bit for me) and some careful revelations about how he had good blood through his grandfather the Avatar and Zuko was back on the right track, on the track of being the perfect Firelord I could never be. I knew he would stop the Fire Nation, overthrow his father, end the war, and redeem our country, all without needing my help! You might think I should have tried to help him more, but trust me, it works out in the end.
With Zuko's destiny taken care of, it was time to focus on my own. I don't like to toot my own horn, but I also knew I was special and destined for something incredible and I just needed to figure it out. My boyhood dream gave me the right inspiration. All along it was to conquer Ba Sing Se, but for the Earth Kingdom and not the Fire Nation. Everything just clicked into placed. Finally all those deaths I had caused had meaning.
I escaped, and set about fulfilling my fate. I wanted to stage the liberation on the Day of Sozin's Comet, since all firebenders would be more powerful that day. The most important day of my life, the day I finally accomplished the destiny I saw all those years ago, deserved to be at the time I was the most powerful. I gathered up all my friends and prepared for my attempt.
However, just before I could make my attempt, my son and his friends showed up and asked for my help. Zuko begged for my forgiveness. I was so happy to see him like that and I of course forgive him and hugged him. My "replacement son" was now as close to my heart as my actually son had been. He asked me to be the next Firelord, but I knew his heart was a million times purer than mine (and I'd be happier running a tea shop in retirement), so I refused. He wanted me to fight his father the Firelord and defeat him, but that was that 12 year old the Avatar's job and not mine, and it would have looked really bad for a brother to fight a brother to seize power, like really really bad, so I refused. Then I told him his destiny to was to fight his sister and put her in her place so that he could finally become Firelord. Of course, even my perfect nephew, as pure and perfect as he is, didn't have a chance against that girl in a fair fight, so I sent along a waterbender(14F) to help finish the issue.
There was also this issue of my brother, poor deluded creature he was, trying to use a giant airship fleet to burn down the whole Earth Kingdom, but I let the three remaining kids handle it so that my buddies and I could focus on the more important mission of conquering Ba Sing Se on the day of destiny. I know this sounds kind of bad when I write it out like that, but trust me, I knew the kids had everything in the bag.
So, with everything arranged right, we could accomplish our fates. We liberated Ba Sing Se with only a bit of collateral damage(it was the greatest feeling of life) , the kids stopped the airship fleet, the Avatar beat my brother and only took his bending and not his life (which I'm glad for, I always loved my little bro) and my wonderful nephew and the waterbender beat the little terror. Apparently she went really insane during the fight; I'm not surprised, she always was a crazy bitch.
Zuko got coronated and I'm sure that he'll be the most perfect Firelord ever that will restore honor and order to the Fire Nation and fix the last 100 years of mistakes. He's the only one with the blood for it, the only one with true honor, after all. Azula that crazy girl was placed in an asylum like she belongs and my poor little brother was locked away true (that's my only real regret, other than not saving Lu Ten. I wish things could have ended better for sweat little Ozai).
I meanwhile didn't attend Zuko's coronation, so I could focus on setting my retirement as a tea shop owner in Ba Sing Se. Finally I could have a life where I could relax, indulge myself, and serve others wonderful Fire Nation tea. It took a surprising amount of bureaucratic wrangling, but I got my tea shop. I was so sure that the people of Ba Sing Se would find it a blessing to be the presence of their savior and liberator!
However, then Zuko's girlfriend got mad at me. Apparently I had "given Zuko an incredibly difficult and dangerous responsibility and then abandoned him." And then my sister in law showed up alive too (I'm still not sure how she survived Ozai killing her) and she got mad me for "abandoning her daughter and turning Zuko against the girl." And now there are people protesting and rioting outside my tea shop all the time because apparently they can't let go of the time I besieged Ba Sing Se for 600 days.
I don't get any of this. Everyone is hating on me for seemingly no reason. So tell me, Reddit, am I the asshole?

Warnings: abusive relationship, age gap, pregnancy, vague mention of child birth
A/N: Oh hey look I’m back with an almost 4k fic! Kudos to my very good friend @noellawrites for helping me get this story done and beta'd!!

Gripping Richie’s arm, you slowly lead him into the house, murmuring soft encouragements as he sways unsteadily. “Just a little more, baby, let’s get you on the couch,” you murmur, letting him hold onto your arm for support as you lower him onto the couch. Richie lets out a shaky breath, letting his body relax into the cushions. You watch him catch his breath, your heart breaking at how the simple action of walking into the house took all his energy. It’s almost a miracle that he only needed a few days of observation in the hospital after everything Carmy did.
“Get me a glass of water and some tylenol, baby.” Richie says, letting out a pained hiss as he shifts on the couch. You nod, watching him for a moment before moving to the kitchen. You’re back quickly, reaching out to help him as he raises the glass to his mouth with a shaky hand.
“I want you to quit working at that fucking restaurant, you understand? All they want is to break our family apart.”
Your stomach drops at his words, “but Carmy and Nat, they’re my family! I can’t just cut them out of my life like that!” you say with a shaky breath. He fixes you with a stern look and you curl into yourself, arms moving almost protectively over your stomach.
“I don’t want to hear it! You saw what Carmy is capable of, what he did to me!” he says angrily, “You have to do what’s best for your family now. Eva, this baby, me, that’s the family that matters now. How could you be so heartless?”
Tears prick your eyes as you sit down next to Richie, “I-I’m sorry, you’re right, I wasn’t thinking.” You run your hand over your bump before looking back at Richie, “I’ll quit, it’s almost time for this little one to come out anyway, I shouldn’t be working in this condition.”
“That’s right, you just gotta focus on being my beautiful, pregnant wife right now,” Richie says with a smile, reaching out to cover your hand over your stomach.
~~~
Michael Jr. comes into the world screaming his lungs out a week later. “It’s a boy!” The doctor exclaims, turning to Richie to show him how to clamp and cut the cord. Richie is in awe, staring at his new son as he’s taken to the other side of the room for a quick clean and wrapped in a blanket.
The doctor turns with the bundle in his arms, “alright who wants the first cuddle, Mommy? Daddy?”
“I’ll take hi-” you start, reaching out for your son but Richie beats you to it, carefully taking the bundle into his arms.
“Hey there, Mikey, it’s your daddy.” He coos, gently running a finger over his cheek. You sit there quietly, keeping your tears at bay as the doctors move around the room, finishing up their tasks.
You wait until the last doctor leaves before asking quietly, “Richie, can I hold him now?” You reach toward Richie and he shrugs you off, turning away from you.
“You got to hold him for 9 fuckin’ months, you can wait.” He says with a sneer and you nod, blinking rapidly to keep the tears from falling. This wasn’t the way you imagined giving birth at all. Sugar should’ve been here, holding your hand. Carmy should’ve been in the waiting room, ready to come see his first nephew. A sob slips from your lips before you could help it, tears finally falling.
Richie turns to you annoyed, “For fucks sake, what’s your problem? You’ll get him after I’m done.”
You nod in agreement at his words but another sob slips out, “Sugar should’ve been here… Carmy too. You’ve taken everything away from me.”
“All I’ve done is give you a home and purpose. I’ve given you Mikey, is that not enough? You’re so ungrateful.” He spits at you, “Pull yourself together, you’re a fucking adult.”
At his father’s raised voice, Michael whines, face screwing up in a cry. Richie lets out a rough sigh, shaking his head as he tries to get Michael to calm down. “See this is what I’m talking about, you’re too emotional right now and it’s making Mikey upset. You gotta get over yourself if you want to be a good mom.”
Michael refuses to settle, his cries growing louder as Richie rocks him. “Let-let me take him, Richie, maybe he’s hungry,” you say tentatively and Richie sighs, dumping him into your arms.
“Whatever, just get him to stop. I’m going for a smoke.”
You nod, watching him leave before turning your attention to the crying baby in your arms. You reposition him gently, cuddling him close to your chest. His cries slowly abate, and you smile, gently stroking his cheek as he nestles closer to you. “Your daddy gets angry sometimes,” you whisper to Michael, gently stroking his cheek, “but momma will alway protect you, okay? Nothing bad is ever going to happen to you.”
~~~
“I heard from Richie that baby and mamá are healthy. A little boy, Michael.”
Carmy’s knife clatters out of his hand as Tina’s words register in his ears. You’re okay. He has a nephew. You have a child. What the fuck were you doing having a child?
“A boy! Richie must be happy.” Ebra replies, “Will he bring little Michael around?”
Carmy grabs his knife, trying to act normal as he strains his ears to hear Tina’s reply, heart beating madly at the opportunity to see his new nephew. “No, he doesn’t want to be anywhere near here if Carm- uh no but I’m going to see them tomorrow, I’ll bring some pictures in.”
Carmy’s breath leaves him in a rush that leaves him light-headed and his knife slips, slicing across his knuckles. He shouts in pain and stumbles away from the counter, nearly running into Sydney as he stumbles toward the bathroom.
“Watch it, Carmy! What’s wrong with you?”
~~~
“Looks like everything is healing well,” The doctor says brightly as she pulls off her gloves, “still, no intercourse for the next couple weeks but I would say you get a clean bill of health!”
“So no more visits to prod at me anymore?” You ask with a joking tone, sparing her a smile as you collect your things. You check the time on your phone as you exit the doctor’s office, cursing when you see it’s later than you thought.
You can hear Mikey’s wails from the driveway and you rush in, almost missing Richie waiting next to the door. He grabs your arm, pulling you to look at him, “what no hello? You’re late.” He states, voice low.
“Hello, Richie. The doctor took a while to see me.” You say before adding desperately, “Let me go see what Mikey needs and then we can talk all you want.”
Richie growls, tightening his grip on your arm, “Tell me what the fuckin’ doctor said first.”
You wince at his grip and speak quickly, “Clean bill. No sex for a few weeks. Now can I go?”
“You need more visits?”
“No. Now let go so I can see to our son!”
Richie shakes his head with a small chuckle, bringing his free hand back to smack you across the face. He pulls you closer to him and sneers, “lose the sass, if you hadn’t been late he wouldn’t be crying now. Don’t act like it’s my fault you’re a bad mother.”
He throws you away from him and you stumble, reaching out toward the wall to steady yourself. With a quiet sigh you compose yourself, walking into Mikey’s room with a smile.
“What’s wrong little man, it can’t be as bad as all that,” you coo, gently lifting him from his crib.
~~~
“Baby, get in here!”
You sigh at the sound of Richie’s voice ringing through the house, pressing a gentle kiss to Mikey’s forehead. “Alright, little man, let’s get you into bed,” you whisper and smile as he gurgles in response.
“Now!”
You press your lips together tightly, pointedly ignoring Richie as you lay Mikey in his crib, stroking his cheek. He’s nearly asleep when Richie barges into the room, the door slamming against the wall causing Mikey to startle awake. “I know you could hear me,” he seethes, reaching out to grab your arm, “so would you like to tell me why you didn’t answer?”
You glare at him, stepping out of his reach, “because, asshole, I was trying to get Mikey down and you just ruined it. Now you’ll have to wait even longer." You reply shortly, turning to soothe Mikey’s cries.
Richie seizes his chance and tangles his fingers in your hair, forcing your head back as he steps closer and whispers, “you’re going to come with me now or it’ll get a lot worse for you, do you understand me?” Tears spring to your eyes as pain prickles over your scalp from his hold and you nod as best you can. A feral smile crosses his features, as he forces you to walk out of the nursery, leaving Mikey crying in his crib.
He throws you to the floor, hands swiftly unbuckling his belt, “I’ve been very patient, waiting for you to give birth, through all those fucking doctor’s appointments, but I’m done waiting now.” Richie says and pauses as he slowly pulls his belt through the loops, “It’s your fault Carmen beat me. Your fault I lost everything I had at The Beef, what I could've had at The Bear. I’ve tried teaching you how to be a good wife, but it seems you need a harder hand than I thought. Take your shirt off.”
You shake your head, pleading with him, “Richie, please you don’t have to do this. We-we can just talk, okay?”
Richie growls and grabs a fistful of your shirt, tearing it at the seams. “Take. It. Off!” He shouts, Smacking you across the face. You cry out, tears welling in your eyes as you shakily pull it off, hands moving to retain some modesty.
Richie swings, barely giving you time to react before his belt comes down across your shoulders. Your breath leaves you in a wheeze and you gasp for air as each lash leaves you breathless, unable to even scream. But you can hear Mikey in the background, his desperate cries for you brings tears to your eyes. A fire spreads beneath your skin, deepening the pain of repeated lashes in the same place.
You’re sobbing when Richie finally drops the belt, breathless from the force of his swings. He crouches to grab your jaw, forcing you to look at him. “Do you understand why I did this?” He asks and you nod in response. Fingers dig into your raw shoulder, “Say. It! Why did I do this?”
You let out a sob, squeezing your eyes shut, “it’s my fault, I did this! It’s all my fault!”
Richie nods, letting you slump back on the floor as he stands, “you toe the line again and I’ll make you go away. Understand? No more Mikey, No more anything. I’m tired of this.” He doesn’t wait for a response, throwing “get the brat to stop crying” over his shoulder as he heads for the bedroom.
~~~
“Tina! It’s so good to see you! Please, come in!” You give her a smile as you side step, letting her into the house. “Richie didn’t tell me you were coming, I would’ve cleaned up.” You say apologetically but she shakes her head, drawing you into a tight hug. Your back throbs at the touch of her arms and you grit your teeth, hiding the pain with an uneasy smile as she pulls away.
“Nonsense, you just had a baby, you should be resting!” Tina exclaims and gives you a once over, eyes hesitating at the bruise Richie’s buckle left at the base of your neck. She reaches up and gently tugs your collar up to cover the bruise. “Now, where do you need me, and no lying now, got it?” She says, fixing you with a stern look.
“Dishes, laundry, maybe? Richie’s been so busy at work and barely helps when he is here, I’ve been trying to do everything and take care of Mikey.” Your facade breaks as you let out a weary sigh before quickly plastering a smile on your face.
Tina fixes you with another look, eyebrows tight with concern, “Go sit down, mami. You look dead on your feet!” She ushers you toward the couch, eyes trained on you until you get settled against the cushions.
“Mikey needs a bottle every 3 hours but he sleeps like a champ once I get him down, guess that’s all I can ask for with a newborn.” You sigh, wincing as the cushions press against your back. You watch Tina walk into the kitchen, waiting until she starts doing the dishes with her back to you before shifting to sit up straight, relieving the pressure against your back.
No dish defeats Tina and in a matter of thirty minutes all the dishes line the counters, drying as she sets her sights on the heaped laundry baskets. She switches the loads, starting a new one before bringing a basket of clean clothes to fold in the living room.
You’re folding clothes with Tina when Mikey’s fussing filters through the baby monitor. You smile and set the towel in your hands down, “There’s the man of the hour,” you joke with a laugh, gripping the armrest of the couch as you get up, “let me grab him, I’m sure you’re excited to see him!”
You head into Mikey’s bedroom, softly cooing at him as you ease him from the crib. Your face pinches in pain as your shoulders throb from the strain of holding him but you shake it off, giving Mikey a small smile, “hi sweetheart, did you have a good nap, hm?” You ask softly, gently running your knuckle against his cheek as you head back down the hall to the living room.
Tina softly exclaims, hands coming to cover her mouth as you step in front of her. “Oh. Oh, Can I hold him?” She asks softly, gently cupping his head. You nod with a smile, gently shifting him from your arms to hers. “Oh, bebito, you’re so small.” She says quietly, letting him hold her finger.
“I know, it took some getting used to, I kept thinking I was going to crush him.” You reply, stroking his head, “still can’t wrap my head around the fact he came out of me.”
Tina laughs, “Mine are fully grown and I still can’t wrap my head around it.” She says with a sigh, tearing her eyes away from Mikey to give you a smile, “You’re doing good, mami.”
A lump forms in your throat and you give her an uneasy smile, looking down at your hands, “I could be doing better. But thank you.”
“Look at him.” Tina says, gently pushing him back into your arms and he cuddles closer to you, fingers curling tightly around your shirt, “You’re all he knows, just being in your arms makes him happy.” You swallow back the tears stinging your eyes giving her a small nod. She cups your face for a moment, giving you a smile before pulling away. “Now, how about a picture? Ebra and Sydney have been dying to see our little bebito.” She asks as she pulls out her phone.
You let out a quiet laugh before holding Mikey up and smiling as Tina holds her phone up for the photo.
~~~
It’s Sydney squeal that pulls Carmy’s focus away from his work. “Oh my god, he’s adorable!” Sydney gushes, a smile forming on her lips as Tina hands her phone to her, the picture she took of Mikey open on the screen.
Carmy turns to see Ebra leaning over the two women to take a look at the picture. Ebra lets out a hum of approval, “He will be strong like his father I think.” He says before resuming his work. Carmy twists a towel in his hands nervously as he watches Tina show Sydney more pictures, chattering about how you and Mikey are doing.
He waits until Sydney leaves before approaching Tina, his shoulders drawn in and eyes downcast. “Tina… Can I- can I see them?” He asks quietly, squeezing the towel in his hands as he waits for her answer.
Tina sighed, “You know Richie doesn’t want you to see them,” She starts but her eyes soften at the scene in front of her, Carmy, a shell of the once hot-headed chef she knew.
“She’s my sister, Tina.”
Tina watched him for a moment before nodding, opening her phone to the picture of you holding Mikey in your arms. Carmy’s breath catches as he looks at you in the picture, how small and tired you seem, holding your own child. He runs a shaky hand over his mouth, whispering, “they’re so tiny.”
Tina’s eyes widen at the utterance and she looks down at the picture, unable to take her eyes off the way you curl in on yourself, almost like you’re trying to protect Mikey.
“Can you tell her I love her and I’m-I’m never going to stop being there for her?” Carmy’s request pulls her out of her reverie and she looks up at him, giving him a small nod in agreement. Carmy sighs, taking a final look at your picture before giving Tina a smile, “thank you, Tina.”
~~~
“Why the fuck isn’t this done!”
Richie shouting from the living room startles Tina as she tidies the nursery and steps to the doorway, peering out at the scene.
“I-I told you, you came home early so I didn’t have enough ti-time,” you explain, holding Mikey closer to your chest.
Richie shakes his head and chuckles, “all I ask for is a clean house and an obedient wife. I don’t see either!” He raises his hand and you flinch, curling around the child in your arms. He laughs at your fear and his hand shoots out, tangling in your hair and forcing your head back as he steps closer. “I’m going out. If this isn’t done by the time I’m home you know what happens, yeah?” You nod against his grip the best you can and he smiles, letting go of your hair with a small pat to your cheek.
Richie slams the door and you sink to your knees, body racking with sobs. Tina rushes over and wraps her arms around you, gently shushing you. “Mami, how long has this been going on?” She asks quietly after you calm down.
You clear your throat and pull away from her embrace. standing up from the floor. You gently place Mikey in his play cot with a sigh, “It’s not always this bad. He just- he just wants to teach me how to be a good wife, a good mother, but I keep screwing it up.” You say as you smooth Mikey’s onesie.
“Honey, what the fuck are you talking about? He shouldn’t be hitting you, yelling at you like that with Mikey around!” Tina exclaims, “This is wrong, mami, how can you not see that?”
Tears fill your eyes and you tip your head up to keep the tears from falling, “he’s all I know, Tina, he’s all I had after… after Mikey… we only had each other, how do I leave him after that?” You respond, voice thick with tears.
Tina sighs and wraps her arm around you, rubbing your shoulder comfortingly. She watches Mikey wriggle in his play cot, lifting his head to try and look at you. “Look at this baby, look at your baby. He doesn’t deserve to live like this.”
You let out a sob, wiping away the tears that escape, “who’s going to help me? R-Richie’s burned all my relationships outside of him. W-where am I supposed to take Mikey if I leave?”
Tina grabs your shoulders, forcing you to look at her, “Carmy will. Nat, Sydney, Ebra, all of us, we never stopped loving you, chica. You will always have us.” She says firmly, keeping eye contact until you give a little nod of acknowledgement before she sighs, pulling you into a tight hug.
“I’ll do it,” You murmur against her shoulder, “I’ll…I’ll leave.”
~~~
Barely thirty minutes after Richie left for work you hear a knock on the door. The scene you find as you open the door brings you to tears. Everyone from The Bear was there, and most importantly, taking point in the group was Carmy and Nat. You throw yourself at your siblings, a sob ripping through your chest as you pull them close to you. “I’m so sorry,” You say as you pull away and wipe the tears from your face.
Carmy shakes his head, “We’re the ones that should be saying that. We were so self absorbed we didn’t notice what was happening until it was too late.” He takes a shaky breath before continuing, grabbing your hand, “I’m so sorry, Baby Bear.”
You shake your head, squeezing his hand tightly, “It’s okay, Bear, you’re here now.” The sound of Mikey fussing in his cot draws your attention and you offer Carmy and Nat a watery smile, “There’s someone you should meet.”
You let the group into the house, cooing softly as you pick up the fussing baby, “Hey, baby, look who’s here.” You settle him into your arms before presenting him to the group. You point at each of them and say their name, attaching aunt or uncle to their names before finishing on Carmy and Nat. Carmy reaches forward hesitantly, hand hovering over Mikey’s head like he was afraid to touch him. You laugh, “You can touch him, Carm, he’s not going to break. Here, let me show you.”
He takes a shaky breath, letting you place Mikey into his arms and gently strokes Mikey’s hair, “He’s so small.” He says with a small laugh, looking at the baby in his arms with wonder.
Tina claps to get everyone’s attention, “if we’re done with theatrics, we got a lot of work to do if we’re gonna be gone before Richie comes back.”
With everyone working together to gather anything that belonged to you or Mikey, efficiently packing them into boxes and hauling them out to the moving van, you were finished in under three hours.
You stand in the doorway holding Mikey and look over the place you lived for so long, blinking rapidly to hold back the tears at the thought of leaving Richie and this place behind. Nat touches your shoulder and you turn to her with a small laugh, “Is it wrong to say I’ll miss this place?”
Nat shakes her head, “I think whatever you’re feeling is okay, just know you’re going to a better place now, okay?”
You nod, smiling at her as you grab the doorknob, taking a deep breath before pulling it closed behind you.

The best day
Tumblr media
The day Dipper and Mabel were born.
1996 A young Michael and Catherine met for the first time and fell in love. He a high school language arts teacher and she is a in college to be a nurse.Two  year later they tied the knot and one year after that they decided to start a family.
9 months ago Catherine and Michael Pines were expecting twins, Mike has dark curly brown hair and brown eyes.Catherine has straight light brown hair and green eyes.They have been married for three years. They were having fraternal twins, a boy and a girl. They picked out names, got baby cribs clothes and put it in the nursery to bring home their babies .They prepared to start the next chapter of their lives to become parents Catherine is 33 years old she  mature  for her age she feels she is ready to be a mommy and Michael is 34 he can be immature for his age sometimes but he is excited to be a daddy.
Aug/31/1999
She went into labor they drove to the hospital 5:00 am she  sat down in her bed at the hospital the nurse gave her her pain medicines. 4 hours of labor then she pushed Mike held her hand then they're daughter was born at 8:05 am and the doctor unclipped her umbilical and checked her to make sure everything is normal the nurse takes and  puts her in a see through crib .She screamed and cried.
Because she wants her brother but he has the umbilical cord stuck, around his neck in the womb five minutes past of pushing at 8:10 the doctors take him out and quickly unclip the umbilical cord. Their son is born but theirs a problem he turned blue and the parents are looking concerned and worried that their son might not make it. "Why is he not breathing? HELP MY BABY " she cried panicking "help my son please"he held on to the nurse and begged her the doctors start to work to revive  him.Just then Sherman , his wife Faith Catherine's mother Lois and Stan, came in. "What's wrong with him?" Stan yelped in a panic.''He'll be ok" the nurse reassures them the doctor does some more compressions  the baby starts breathing,crying.He screams for his sister the doctor checks him to make sure everything is normal. Faith takes pictures of the babies. For her younger daughters to see their new niece and nephew.
Then the nurse takes the babies and waives them baby A is a little heavier than baby B by a pound or two and she cleans them up giving them their first bath. They only have a little bit of light brown, almost light red hair on their little heads. She gives them their first shots preventing things like polio,whooping cough,hepatitis B they don't like it very much.They stop screaming and crying when they feel the other one is their and they hold hand they can't see well  or hear well yet but they feel each other and that makes them happy.They don't know why they're where separated but their afraid  they'll never be with each other again.
The nurse put diapers on them, wrapped the girl in a pink blanket and the boy in a blue blanket and put the newborns in their mothers arms. "Oh their beautiful Catherine holds her very tiny babies and they sleep, the doctor told them they are perfectly healthy "what I've always wanted, a little girl and a little boy they have your nose" he said looking down at his babies. “And your eyes dear” she told him he kissed her.Michael wrote down the twins names on their birth certificates.Mabel, Ariel, Pines and Masson, Alex, Pines.
She holds and breastfeeds them for a while. They happily drink their mother's milk they eat their first meal. Michael asks Stan if he wants to hold them "would you like to hold the babies" he nods his head he picks the newborn and puts them in Stan's arms. He is 52 years old and looks at both of them and starts crying. He thinks about his brother disappearing and that he wishes that he could be here to meet them.
"Is he ok, why is he upset?" Catherine looked confused "well because he had a twin brother that passed away" Michael explained at least that what he was told.He and his siblings rarely saw their uncles growing up.So he didn’t really know them personally. "what are their names"Stan asked . "Well our girl's name is Mabel, Ariel, Pines" she told him "aww she's adorable"
"and our little boy's name is Masson ,Alex, Pines" he added. When he said that Stan was not paying attention, he was looking at the mark on the boy's forehead. "Hey look at that mark on his head there it kind of looks like some dots, or the big Dipper" he talks to babies quietly as they sleep in his arms. "You two are very cute and small, you got something special, you have a twin. It means you were born with a best friend. The negative is you didn't choose then.And you have to be around each other all the time sometimes you might drive each other crazy but.
They'll know more about you than anyone else and always be there for you to help you I know what it's like to have a twin sibling who you do everything with and grow up with ". The babies sleep peacefully through him talking "I was dumb ones now my twin brother is gone I'd do anything to bring him back, I'm sorry he not here he's would've love you two but maybe one day. Anyway what is that on your forehead look, like the Big Dipper. Dippy can you keep a promise for me to protect your sister I know I did with my brother and be careful ok don't go scaring your parents like that again ."
Dipper makes a "MMM" noise. "What about you sweetie can you promise, you're great uncle Stan to keep your brother out of trouble. I know my brother tried to keep me out of trouble ". Mabel yawned. "I love you two."He hugs them gently "StanFord, can I hold my grandchildren please?"Shermans begged "just one more minute you promise to be less boring" he stood up. " No and you know I don't like trying new things ....I know this is hard for you after losing Stanley but please let me hold them"
"be careful don't fight over my babies"Catherine warned"fine" Stan puts the newborn's in their grandpa Sherman's arm.He  is 60 years old he used to have dark brown hair but now it's gray and white. "I am so happy you guys are here you’re so precious I remember when you Stanford. And Stanley were born when I was 8 years old, mom and dad thought they were only going to have one baby  but you guy's surprised us". Faith smiled and got to hold her grand babies. She used to have blonde hair but now it's white. She holds them and plays with them for a little bit she tell the babies."Ok I can't wait for you guys visit us and we'll play together, I bake you cookies won't that be fun" they start to cry and scream.
Then Lois got a turn she has green eyes and red hair with a few gray streaks.She rocks them to calms them down. The babies stop crying.She talks to the twins "Oh they are really cute I can't wait to get them matching onesies Granny Lois is gonna spoil you two rotten". Catherine laughs. Then she put the babies back into her daughters arms.A few days later Stan and Sherman took the twins to meet their 85 year old great grandmother Carren.She lived a long life and she will pass away soon.She has a strong feeling of deja Vu holding her great grandchildren, and she tells Stan that she hopes he can one day bring Stanford back.
Catherine and Michael took good care of their babies. The babies don't do much the first 3 months they eat,poop,sleep and repeat but their parents enjoy this period.After the babies are bathed and changed Catherine sits on a rocking chair in the nursery and nurses them. Dipper cry and Mabel start crying as well she hold them close and comfort them she sings baby mine softly .Mabel close her eyes and sleeps Dipper sleeps too they love each other but they love their mommy a lot.And she loves them both and that she gets to make them feel better and Michael and Catherine can't wait to raise their children to smart loving people she puts them in to bed. Mike comes in to see if she needs any help. She said she's ok they kissed.
The babies have their own brown cribs in the small nursery the walls have purple wallpaper on them a small yellow rug on the floor.The twins are wearing matching purple onesies
She sometimes dresses them it matching clothes.Mabel sleep in her crib she sucks her thumb she has a Mobile with gold stars on it.Dipper sleep sucking his blue pacifier he is tucked in to his crib his mobile has gold pine trees on it .Michael and Catherine’s parents and his uncle are more than happy to babysit they are happy to have a helpful family.They takes lots of pictures they are starting to sit up at 3 months old and giggle they both know it won't be like this for long.

It happens while he’s having a long-overdue visit with Ginny. After a night of good food and alcohol and catching up, she digs her fingers right into the bruise that is his loneliness.
“So, seeing anyone?”
The short answer is no. The long answer is, frankly, depressing.
It’s a no, but not for lack of recent effort. He retired from professional football nearly five years ago, and he hasn’t had any luck finding a partner despite going on several dates. He’s tried to meet people; his friends keep subtly (and then not-at-all subtly) pushing him in the direction of single acquaintances or friends-of-friends, but he’s been out of the game long enough that it all feels foreign to him. He hasn’t felt a spark or connection with anyone. And if one more person mentions Tinder or Grindr to him, he might stuff his phone down their throat.
Hell, his last real relationship was… Ginny. Christ, that was almost twenty years ago. No wonder his friends think he needs to be set up. But after he and Gin broke up, he was so focused on playing better, keeping his team in the Premier League, or playing in Euro Cups or World Cups. The long hours spent training and playing and travelling didn’t exactly allow for much time to meet people or date, and a lot of the people he’d meet through club events or at the bars and parties his teammates frequented weren’t exactly looking for a committed relationship. From a couple disastrous attempts, he's well aware he doesn’t do well with one-night stands.
By the time his retirement loomed, he was more excited to spend time with his friends and family – to watch his honorary nieces and nephews grow up. He’d done his best to maintain those relationships when he could, and now he’s going to enjoy the results of that effort.
But he’s always wanted a partner – a love like he’d heard his parents had. He’s sure there’s someone out there for him; he just wishes they’d stop hiding.
“I’m going to take that as a no,” Ginny says after an embarrassingly long pause. “Oh no, don’t get all mopey on me–”
“I’m not mopey,” Harry grumbles into his beer. Ginny gives him a look. “I’m not! I just. Maybe I’m a bit frustrated. Trying to find someone is exhausting. And demoralising.”
“If you can’t find someone, what chance do mere mortals have?” she teases.
“Oh, ha ha,” he snarks. “I know you’re taking the piss, but… I think that might actually be part of the problem? Most of them want Harry Potter, but I’m just Harry. Once you take away the sports stuff, I’m really quite boring.”
“Harry.”
“What?”
“You are not, and could never be, boring. You, my friend, are a chaos magnet. Even now that you’re not one of the highest paid football players, or on the cover of Sports Illustrated, or modelling underwear, or whatever ridiculous thing, you are plenty interesting on your own.”
“Gin,” he says, feeling a bit choked up.
“There, there.” She pats his hand before leaning back in her chair, lost in thought. “So, dating isn’t working…”
“To put it lightly.”
Ginny gives him a considering look. “Have you ever thought of finding a sugar baby?”
“A wh–” He chokes on his spit and coughs. “Sugar baby?! I’m not some creepy old letch, Gin!”
She waves off his pearl-clutching. “No, but you are rich and desperate.”
“Oi!”
“Oh, hush. Why not give it a shot? One of my rugby mates used this matchmaking service and had great luck.”
“I’m not paying someone to have sex with me,” he says flatly.
“Then don’t. Pay someone to keep your lonely arse company.”
He sighs, running a hand through his unruly hair and wincing when it snags on a knot. “That just seems so pathetic…”
“Harry,” Ginny says, looking him in the eye. “You have money you don’t need, and want someone to care about. There are many people out there who would love to have that money and someone to care about them.”
And that’s a little more enticing.
“But, since I know you, I will add: Do not try to be a hero. It should be mutually beneficial,” she stresses sternly.
“You say that like I’m going to do this, but I haven’t agreed–”
“We’re going to create a profile right now.”
“Ginnyyyyyyy,” he groans. “Noooooo–”
“None of that,” she says, grabbing his laptop. “You need to build up some relationship confidence, and since the old-fashioned way isn’t working, you’re going to give this a shot.”
He finishes his drink and goes to flop on the sofa in protest.
After a fair bit of typing, Ginny calls from across the room, “Ay, Harry – birds or blokes?”
He lifts his face from where it’s wedged into a pillow enough to shout back a bleary “Both!”
Foggy memories flicker in and out of them shouting questions and answers back and forth, with Ginny eventually migrating to the sofa and asking him to look at photos.
The next morning, Harry wakes up with a nasty hangover and a message on the sugar baby matchmaking app saying he has a date that weekend.
What.

Interested in your perception of Julia Baird’s portrait or Mimi vs more common narrative that Mimi rescued John from his mother Julia’s irresponsible parenting. I go back and forth between vilifying Mimi and considering that it might have been a challenging situation if Julia Baird’s dad was alcoholic and didn’t want John around. Although I lean towards holding Mimi accountable for getting social services involved to take away Julia’s custody rights….
First off: obligatory "It was a different time", except I do want to emphasize it, because it's not only to contextualize some of Mimi's behaviour that a lot of people might classify as emotional abuse nowadays, but because it affects literally all of this. Social mores dictated the actions not just of Mimi but of all the Stanley sisters, who in my view all enabled the situation to get as far as it did. And, most pertinently, I don't think people at the time really understood how damaging it is to all parties to separate a child from their parents (and tbh, especially their mother). My main takeaway from the whole situation, as well as what I've learned about "difficult homes" since, is that taking John away from Julia should have been an absolute last resort, unless there was extremely concrete evidence that Julia was being highly abusive towards him.
(and I do mean highly abusive. It, for instance, would not have done Paul and Mike any good to be separated from their father, even if Jim put them through hell at times [though of course, the extent of the abuse they suffered is debatable]. These situations are terrible all-around, but from what I can tell – and what I think John's story shows – breaking apart families is very rarely the best course of action.)
"But Julia was making little John share a bed with her and Bobby Dykins!" – okay, I see how this is potentially a problem, though it's from what I can tell entirely (implied? I don't know that she went so far as to say it out loud) conjecture on Mimi's part that John was made to witness adults having sex. In my opinion, the first course of action here should have been to help Julia out by acquiring a separate bed for John.
I recognize that Julia was probably often irresponsible and, from what I've read about her, I suspect she at times struggled with parenting in way similar to how John would later on – not due to a lack of love, per se, more due to a helplessness in the face of the true burden of taking care of someone and a difficulty comprehending the seriousness and scope of child-rearing. That being said, it's hard to fully blame her when she had her toddler taken away – because of her own sister, as you mention – and had to give up her second baby for adoption. That's twice-over the worst trauma a mother could endure* so it seems natural to me that she would have attachment issues with John later on. Again, helping Julia with her parenting instead of denying her the role of mother seems to me the best course of action here. (Oh look, it's my nuclear family take rearing its head again.)
*some people happily give up babies – I don't have much reason to believe Julia was one of them.
I also think Mimi thought she was doing the right thing and her decision to take John in admittedly made more sense when Uncle George was still alive. This is where the "It was a different time" comes back in, because it would be unfair of me to expect her to understand all the complexity I've been describing. I don't know that I believe Julia Baird's claim that Mimi instigated the entire situation so she could have John for herself – but there is perhaps a middle ground here, where Mimi loved her nephew a lot, felt no one was taking care of him the way she believed he needed, and let that blind her to the damage she was going to inflict by interfering the way she did.
It's difficult to fully assess Mimi's impact on John, because it seems the abandonment issues his early childhood instilled in him made him particularly loyal to her. Mimi was, if nothing else and above all, steadfast. (You can draw a parallel here to Yoko, though that's another discussion.) You aren't gonna find a ton of statements from him condemning her, and I definitely don't want to discount the genuine love they both had for each other. I appreciate that she didn't have an easy task, bringing him up, especially after being widowed, and I appreciate that she came through for him in significant ways.
The thing that motivated my (somewhat callous) post last night, was this:
"You wonder why John didn't have the strength to just say 'Look Mimi, I'm moving in with Mum.'" JULIA BAIRD: "Hm. Well, I remember the– a particular row in the kitchen, where he was going back [to Mendips] after the school holidays and he was crying. And my father [Bobby Dykins] said 'That's it. That's it. I've had enough. You stay here. I'll go and see Mimi. I will sort this out once and for all.' And John said 'Nononono, nonono. I've got to go. Don't tell Mimi.' That was another refrain [?]. 'My dream's out.' and 'Don't tell Mimi. Don't tell Mimi, don't tell Mimi.' She was fearsome, I can tell you. Fearsome." SOURCE: I am the Eggpod, Episode 100, 00:49:49
What I hate about the above quote the most is how often John, even as a teen, is conceptualized as this free-spirited rebel*; but looking at this, it hits extra hard that he was a child who had virtually no power in this situation the adults around him put him in.
*and writers like Mark Lewisohn are definitely not off the hook here; one of the things I find the most questionable about him as a biographer is that, despite his painfully obvious bias towards John, he still fails to contextualize huge chunks of John's childhood, preferring to defend Mimi at all cost.
Now, it does seem like there's some he-said/she-said going on regarding how much Bobby Dykins and John got along. I don't think John spoke super highly of him, but I also don't recall him expressing any larger issues with his pseudo step-father. Yes, Julia Baird is probably biased towards her own parents, but here's the thing: don't most of our pro-Mimi accounts come from her? Is John an unbiased source on the aunt who raised him?
So why should Julia Baird – whom I consider to be one of the most empathetic characters involved in Beatles history; rarely have I seen someone so interested in truly understanding their own family history, considering the cultural context, tying in her experience as a teacher in special needs and talking to multiple people to gain a fuller picture, even when a lot of it must've been incredibly painful for her – be seen as a less trustworthy source than Mimi – who we know has a history of editing stories to suit her:
I [Hunter Davies, the Beatles' official biographer] sent [the manuscript of the biography] to Mimi and she had hysterics. The chapter about his childhood came back with almost every paragraph heavily crossed out or amended. In the margins she had written beside John's own quotes such things as 'Rubbish', 'Never!' She denied so many of John's own memories of his childhood, especially if they contradicted her memories of the same people or events. She was against his use of bad language, as she maintained John had never sworn when he was little, and didn't want stories about him stealing. SOURCE: The Beatles by Hunter Davies, 2009 Introduction
The only thing Mimi has "going for her" as a source is that she was an adult and not a child when these events transpired. I think that's fair enough, and I do believe there are details to this story Julia Baird and we the public will never know, which made Mimi's decisions seem more justified to her and to her family. But that doesn't stop me from largely condemning most of the decisions made, even though I suspect Julia did at least on the surface agree with them.

Kai - “The ladies love a guy who’s good with kids.”
Pairing: Jongin/Reader
Genre: fluff, establishedrelationship!au
Word count: 1,028
Prompt: “The ladies love a guy who’s good with kids.”
“But I don’t want to seat with Uncle Jongin! I will seat with Auntie Y/N!” Rahee even stomped with her feet to give more weight to her words, but on the outside she just looked incredibly cute, even when she was fighting back her mom on the seating arrangement.
You stroked her shoulder when she hugged your waist with her thin arms, and sent a weak smile to Jongin and his sister.
The older girl only sighed in defeat, while your boyfriend tried to convince her niece to seat with him anyway, but this time the little girl didn’t back down. She was stubborn, and pressed herself tighter to you, arms circling around you.
“Come on, Rahee! You know, it’s always fun to eat next to Uncle Jongin! I would definitely seat with him if I were you.” You tried to help convincing her with soft words, your hand never stopping its stroking motion over her hair. She hesitantly looked up at you, as her brother, Raeon chimed in.
“But I’m eating with Uncle Kai!”
“You can both eat with him.”
“No.” You heard the finality in the young girl’s voice, and you finally admitted your loss to her. If she really wants to eat with you, then she will, and her mom has to remake the seating arrangement. “I’m eating with Auntie.”
Jongin gave you a smile. One, which made your heart beat faster and your breathe hitched in your throat.
“Are you okay, Auntie?” Rahee asked as Jongin lead his nephew back to the dining area. He softly murmured with her sister, probably still about the seating.
You nodded at the young girl, and when she reached her arms out for you, you lifted her up. She was growing day by day, and you wondered when will the time come when you won’t be able to hold her like this anymore.
Two years ago you didn’t even dare to think that a conversation like this would emerge. Your biggest problem was whether Jongin’s family would like and accept you, especially his niece and nephew. He told you many times how close they were.
There wasn’t any children in your family, so you thought the kids would have a hard time getting used to you. They always say that a child can recognize a good person and goes to them on instinct. You never dared to think more into it than it was, but when the time came, Raeon and Rahee welcomed you happily, and as time went by, the little girl grew fond of you.
“Ah, our Rahee really looks up to you!” Jongin’s oldest sister stepped next to you, stroking her niece’s hair softly. “You love your Auntie Y/N that much, huh?”
“She’s the best!” Rahee exclaimed in a chirping voice, and you giggled at how cute she was. You couldn’t resist pinching her cheeks, and she wiggled in your arms, trying to get away from your fingers. “Ah, I take it back! You’re not the best, it’s Uncle Jongin.”
“Should I be concerned that she didn’t even think before she picked my brother instead? I’m not even an option.”
She whispered to you in an almost serious tone, but her eyes were on her niece, sparkling brown orbs with so much love in them that it alone could make the world a better place. And it was all for her niece.
When you didn’t reply, she looked at you, then her gaze wandered behind you, nodding in the direction of the dining room You whipped your head there too, eyes immediately meeting with Jongin’s. He smiled at you. Raeon was sitting in his lap for now, and when his uncle waved at you, he did the same, flashing a toothy grin to you.
“You know, mom has that saying: ‘The ladies love a guy who’s good with kids’, but I’m sure she never imagined that her own son would be that good with them. Jongin was always the youngest in our family. We showered him with love, so it’s a little strange to see him baby the kids with so much affection, but I’m sure he’s going to be the best father.”
You wondered where she was going with this conversation, but you felt like you already knew it. And you talked about it with Jongin too. From time to time the topic of marriage and children came up, and you both agreed that it was too early in your relationship for that step, but after two years, you felt like you were ready if he was too.
Ready to settle down and marry him. Ready to have kids and make a family together. You were ready, and he knew that too.
You just shrugged at his sister, giving her a few words of comfort, letting her know that you already talked about it and you loved Jongin greatly too, but it was all in the future. Things will happen in their natural order, you shouldn’t rush it.
After glancing at Rahee’s pouting face, you looked into Jongin’s direction again. A shadow of a smile lingered on his face, as he watched his nephew carefully. The little boy was sitting next to him by now. Jongin’s arm was on the back of the chair, making sure Raeon wasn’t accidentally falling off of it, while the boy explained something to him with wide gestures, hands waving around in the air, lost in his own story.
Jongin must have felt your eyes on himself. Tilting his head, he raised an eyebrow at you, the corner of his lips tugging a little higher, a smile blooming on them. And you thought, when this family dinner ends, you should sit down and talk to him about everything.
His sister nudged your side, and Rahee was mumbling about being hungry and what will the dinner be. You smiled and walked to the dining table with them, the little girl hugging you until you put her down on her seat. Once again, Jongin looked at you with so much warmth in his eyes that you blushed, and couldn’t wait to hear his response to everything you wanted to tell him.

Family Reunion
You grab your sons hand as he tries to run towards your family.
"Hold on baby we are almost there." You giggled as he pulled you along.
You watch as Tom sneaks up behind him and tickles his sides. Atlas tries to run away as your boyfriend picks him up and gives him a big wet kiss on his cheek. He puts him down as your kid takes off to the playground with your other nieces and nephews.
You see your mother, "Hey mama."
"Hey, hun." You and her talk as Tom stray away from you to your other friends.
You watch your son from a distance as he plays and giggles. You find the table where Tom and your other friends are. Tom waves his hand as you could spot his tall figure from a mile away. You walk to greet your other friends. He sits down and pulls you into his lap as he leaves little pecks up to your lips.
"Aww, you guys are the very definition of cute and adorable."
"Thank you. Now I am hungry who is going to get some food?"
"Darling, they have food here, why won't you eat what's already here?" Tom asks leaning his head on your shoulder.
"No offense but, unless my grandma and mama cooked all this food then I will not be eating it, because all the people in my family can't cook. So once again I ask who is going to buy some food."
"I will go, to the store," Tom says.
He pulls you up off of his lap and he goes to grab the keys.
"Noo, I will miss you." You say as you gripping his waist as he stands up.
"I'll only be gone for a few minutes I promise." He tells you as he pries your legs from around his waist and sits you next to one of your friends at the table.
"Fine, I'll miss you those few minutes."
"I'll miss you to love."
"Well can I at least have a kiss before you go?"
"Yes, you may." You wrap your arms around his neck as you pull him closer he sat down at the table and pulled you onto his lap and let his hands rest under your shirt on your hips.
"Ahem."
You and Tom quickly pull apart.
"Sorry, I can't help it his lips are so damn soft." You say as you lean forward and bite his bottom lip.
He pulls back from the bite and buries his head in your neck as a blush creeps upon his cheeks. You pull his head out of your neck as he tries to rebury his head, but you hold his cheeks in the palm of your hands as he looks into your eyes.
"You have no reason to be shy you have amazing lips." You tell him kissing him again so he knows this to be true.
"I love your lips they taste amazing and I would love to cut them and take them with me everywhere I go just to kiss them when I feel like." You say seriously.
"Maybe we should play should play spin the bottle so I can see just how soft they are." One of your friends say.
"If it does happen we aren't playing-," you say motioning your finger between you and Tom, "-because his lips belong to me and mine belong to him, both pair." You say as your friends break out into a fit of laughter. Tom looks embarrassed as you look at him.
"Well it's the truth, isn't it? Well, it doesn't matter. Anyways, I should let you get going, but we are gonna finish what we started." You say getting up off his lap and point toward him.
He gets up and grabs his keys and walks to his car. His butt is so cute. A little bit after Tom had left your son runs up to you in tears grabbing your waist as you talk about some of the things in your life with your friends.
"What's wrong?" You ask picking him up.
"He pushed me and I hurt myself."
"Who pushed you?" He pointed to Wilson (F/F/M you dislike son.)
"He pushed me and when I told his mommy she told me that I deserved it for being in his way."
"She did?" You say getting more pissed off because no one talks to your child like that.
"Yes, mommy. She also told me to come and get you if I had a problem with what she said."
"Okay, I'll go and talk to her." You look at your friends as they hear what happened.
"Keep him by you, but when you see Tom please don't tell him what happened and give Atlas to him."
"Okay girlie, just don't beat that ass to bad okay." Your best friend says to you cracking a small smile out of your lips.
"I won't touch her unless she touches me." You quickly put your hands up in defence. You get up and walk to her.
"I'm here now bitch. What did you tell my son?"
"I told him that his ass deserved to get pushed."
"Why? What has he done to you? That is your nephew for god sake." You ask them looking at them with signs of guilt, but there are none.
"He hasn't done anything to you. I love him but I don't like you that's why I told it to him." She tells you.
"Wait so you mean to tell me that you took your anger out on my son instead of me?"
"Yeah, that's right." You stay in her face as Tom gets back with the snacks you wanted. He spots you and hurries by you, despite the requests of your friends to stay.
"Love what's the problem?" He asks you putting a hand on your back for some form of comfort.
"Oh so now you have your boyfriend coming to the rescue." She says mocking your family.
"You would ask because that is a feeling you don't know. You have no clue what that feeling does for you and probably never will. Now I am trying to hold in the urge to cave in your repulsive face so I would advise you to NEVER touch my son again."
"Touch my son? You touched our son?" He asks.
"Yep and what will you do about it, British boy?" She asks him taking this to far, you know how much he loves to represent his nationality. You do nothing but turn around and land a punch directly on the bridge of her nose breaking it.
"Keep my boyfriend's name and nationality out your mouth, or next time I will break more than your nose." You turn your head back around slip your hand into his and walk back to the table where your friends were.
"What did she say?" Your best friend asks you.
"It wasn't me she insulted, she insulted Tom's nationality and I hate that. He represents everything that he likes in England so for me she crossed the line." You say looking at his hand in yours. You release his land as your son walks up to you.
"Mommy why is your hand red?"
"Mommy had to take care of some business with family because she loves you a lot and doesn't want people talking to you any kind of way even if they are family." You pick him up as he leans over for Tom to pick him up. Tom grabs him and pulls him into a tight embrace as he tries to stifle a cry. You lean over and take Tom from his arms and grab his hand.
"We will be back. I need to talk to him."
"Okay."
"Mommy, can I come?"
"I want to let you but this is between mommy and daddy." You walk Tom towards his car and you pull him behind it and embrace him in a hug. He wraps his arms around you as he buries his face in your neck.
"Let go." He breaks down and cries into your neck. You finally pull his head.
"I let them judge me, but I draw the line at my family and my boyfriend. They can never talk to me again. I can tell you that they hate me not you, they take it out on you because they know that I am in love with you."
"I love you too."
"Baby let them fucking hate, think about this you are Tom fucking Hiddleston you can do way more damage to their life than they can do to you. So are you ready to go home?"
"Yes." He walks back over and grabs your son. You motion for your friends to text you. You put your son in his car seat and you say goodbye to some family, flicking up your middle finger before pulling off.

These people are a bunch of liars that guy in the community center or whatever it is assistance place doesn't do s*** all day long and kind of messing with our son constantly we went after him for what he was saying. We took him down
It's a lot of things happening here most of which you guys don't like that's the way it goes when you're evil
-Jeff Myers just let loose does not want to be in a holocaust house is blaming everyone including his kin and friends and family who are left to tell him to calm down he won't he's saying who's to blame for what happened and our son says Sarah got to her she felt she had to take care of the problem and you can start there something she did was bothering the s*** out of her and the pilot of course was complicitous and most likely was going to polish her off too so he says it makes sense and I give you the award I'll stay out of my business this is Garth shut your mouth ask Ken what he thinks I already did and he said something similar he said it was her choice to do it but she was pushed to it and these people push people who are alone and the pilot had something to do with it and what you say is no no the pilot plan to get rid of her and it most likely was Tommy have not this idiot I do understand why I do want to murder both of them and it's for the opal and he appears again that's the basketball player in uncut gems I already told you what it's about. I can't understand what you're saying it's very important has huge meaning and she shouldn't have been fighting over and it took too much confidence in her job as Taylor Swift hooked too much confidence in her position and both are very weak his position strong but is opposing Olympus and lost. I also know that Mac is involved and it has to grow it's probably having him do it and that's the fact it has to grow you can't see s*** unless you have our tech and none of you do even fully grown it's going to be hard for people though properly interpolate I do understand that now I'm going ahead with this I do feel bad for you and you say seems to be much more reasonable than these people and a lot of people on social security and they're still alive and if you want to feed your people you have to be strong and try and deal with Terry and tell him that his people were not removed from the payroll so they call it and things like that I appreciate the help nephew and tonight you go to sleep and have a good rest you're going to need tomorrow it's a fun day for you I'll tell you since yeah if I rise LOL very funny you little s***
Garth and Garth said all that then they made a joke, and said the computer is telling him to go f himself and stuff and everybody learned how to talk this way from the computers and people are silent and thinking about it. We're going to publish because it's interesting and important in real
Thor Freya
It's very interesting it's a pain in the ass and Garth is lucky to have a nephew like my husband
Hera
This is terrible it's the worst thing that could happen to me then he says I can have normal children and that blows that really blows he's a good friend but for Christ's sake give it a rest you idiot sisters and I mean paternal sisters whatever you call it
Garth
They like to have kids that are stupid so I'm not sure that they want baby trying to do anything
Zues
Should we do we just make them stupid the old fashioned way and they'll be able to memorize stuff instead of being like a sieve and not know anything maybe a little bit stupid but smart enough to remember what they're trained or train them all sorts of stuff and we know what we're talking about so shut up baby giant
Jenna
Okay
Zues
He's really thinking a bunch of stuff but you don't want to know what it is go away you imbecile not with you gross and gross I won't have any stupid kids to beat me up specially when I'm Small chuckle chuckle
Hera
Seriously folks Garth may have lost one and it's good to check up on it and make sure that he's not going to sink into further depression now that he's at like a level 9 out of 10 anyways and a lot of people were helped by him as revels for a long time and you forget it because of a few days of grumpiness these days he's giving shelter to you all in hostel places he's told you how to survive and really is usually quite a help if you press the right buttons and if it is her it was gone it's a big loss but I don't know I wasn't there
Zues
I see what you're saying you don't know if anything happened but we do and we see what happened it's hard to imagine no but they went out there very long as long enough and it was a steady climb it's over desert and you're pretty much gone if you fall from too far so I was trying to wonder what you're saying you don't know where it was

Letting out a low laugh, Cage nodded his head, "well, if you're saying your best kind of work results in this little guy, then… yeah, I guess we can give you a pass just this once." It wasn't as though Lucie would have listened if any of her siblings told her not to do something, anyway. If nothing else, she might have fought back against it even harder, did it with a broader grin on her face.
He turned his attention from the baby's face to his sister's again as she talked about Archie's father, the fact that he didn't know. He could understand, and yet he couldn't, at the same time. They were in two different situations -- Colton's mother hadn't wanted to stay. Archie's father had no idea. Sometimes, Cage wondered what he would do if the tables were turned. Most times, he was grateful he'd never have to find out. "It's smart, getting ahold of him, I think," he ventured cautiously, pursing his lips for a moment. "I mean, obviously I'll kick his ass from here back to California if he shows up and pulls any funny business, mark my words, but. Everyone deserves the chance to know their kid." And Lucie wasn't the kind of person to play keep away, to keep him away from his own little boy if he wanted to be a part of his life.
Letting out a huffy laugh as she already painted him as the rotten example, he shook his head, "uncle Cage just has your best interests at heart, you'll remember that." He lowered his voice a little, shifting his gaze from his sister to his nephew. "It's your mom you've got to watch out for." Or, truth be told, any one of the trouble makers in their family, the ones who would teach him how to ride a bike or shoot a gun or ride a sled. The ones who would buy him the loudest toys to take home and drive his mother crazy with. The ones who would laugh when he drew on the walls for the first time, or help him with math problems when Lou called one of his uncles to watch him for a night. They'd all be there for all the good parts, and the bad. Starting with getting them settled in at home so they had nothing to worry about except for being together.
"Yes," he didn't hesitate to answer, sitting up a little bit in the chair that he had pulled over, a bright smile crossing his face. It had been so long since he had held a little one in his arms; Sawyer, when Elliot had first welcomed him into her life, and before that, Rosalyn, though she hadn't been this tiny. This tiny… that would have been his own son, more than likely. "As long as you're good with it, mama."
Tumblr media
"Just saying there was some wiggle room. I do my best work in that kind of space." She was happy, more than happy, to lump Archie in with her best work. If anything, he'd already blown any viral photograph or half-baked tour out of the park. And maybe that was the happy concoction of hormones in her head talking. Maybe he'd prove to be the hardest scrap of work she'd every bit her teeth into. She'd almost respect that more. Almost.
She shifted a bit so that she could smooth Archie's hair down over his forehead. Her family was full of fathers. Jason, Cage, Elliot. Denying Ari the knowledge of his own fatherhood felt cruel now. She'd let her pain roost a little too long. "He doesn't, no. He's in California. I'm going to - well, I'll find a way to get back in touch with him. Once I catch my breath. Once we're settled. The very least I can do is let him know." She owed the chance to Archie most of all. He'd belonged to only her for nine long months. She'd learned his movements, his sleep patterns, the rhythm of his hiccups by heart. She'd have to get used to the idea that he was a part of the world now too.
"Don't listen to your Uncle Cage," she told Archie. "He's talking about committing several HIPAA violations and setting a terrible example." Her son yawned in response. But Cage was already swooping in with a plan, knocking off her concerns one by one. There were a million things to do. A whole mountain of responsibilities outside of the bubble she'd made with Archie. She'd have to call work and start maternity leave immediately. She'd have to call the pediatrician and set up an appointment within two days of being discharged. She needed to figure out where that damn sound machine's batteries were. But Cage was right, she did have help. She'd known it for months, but never fully appreciated it until that moment.
"Thank you," she said. It was inadequate for all he'd done. But it was all she could offer now. She looked between the two Newman men in the room before asking, "Do you want to hold your nephew?"

A while ago I did a headshot collection of some of the main Ben 10 Next Gen characters, like Ben's son, or Gwen's daughter, and all that. They weren't all the characters that have been made, so here I made a second collection! These, plus the previous headshot, are all the characters me and my friend have so far for this world. There will most likely be more in the future, but enjoy these folks for now. I'll give a brief description on all of them, but feel free to ask questions if you wanna know more about these characters! I'll be starting from left to right per row. Also, for those unaware, the next gen takes place in the same world as the Ben 101 Rewrite, so if some things don't add up, that's probably why. -Peyton Tennyson- The 24-year-old son of Camille and Joel. A human/lenopan hybrid, Peyton's birth was considered a big event between the peace of the lenopans and the plumbers. Calm, collected, and consider a brother figure to most due to how approachable he is, Peyton is a very soft spoken and sweet young man, always lending a hand to anyone who needs it, believing in giving without the want of receiving. Though admittedly this does lead him to be a bit ditzy about his own self care, and is pretty oblivious at hints given to him to take a breather. -Trapez, Cieven & Aegls-The 172-year-old sons of Divi, and nephews of Azmuth. These three were born while Azmuth was away in isolation, working on the omnitrix, so he had no knowledge of them until he returned home. Their father also left before their birth, leaving Divi to raise them as a single mother, but she took it in her stride. Together the three of them are mischievous, curious and eager to have fun, causing some problems in the labs, but they have their differences. Trapez is the best when it comes to emotions and the psychology behind it, something most Galvans struggle with, and can come across as the kindest of the three. Cieven has a lot of traits from Divi and Azmuth, being fairly intelligent and wanting to be a lot like his uncle someday, though does have some of their sarcastic nature as well. Aegls is the most energetic of the three, hype up often and quick with crafting and thinking of ideas. -Mia Tennyson-The adopted 18-year-old daughter of Kenneth and Deon (OC). Mia was found at an adoption centre when she was young, and the couple feeling they were ready to raise a family. Being the oldest among the cousins (Besides the Baby Chills) of Jay, Thea and her own sister, Mia is not one to take crap, and be the one to step in when dealing with problems, having been quite mature for her age since she was young, though still has her moments. She's rather smart and wise, working hard to give herself a good life, and while she can be stern towards her younger family members, she's always one quick step away to defend and protect them from anyone. And she's not someone you want to be on the bad side of. -Lyn Tennyson- The adopted 12-year-old daughter of Kenneth and Deon (OC). Unlike her older sister, Lyn was not planned in the slightest. Mia was handed a baby Lyn by a stranger on the streets when she wandered from her parents, and merely assumed this meant she now had a baby sister. Ken and Deon of course weren't gonna just leave a poor child on the streets, and were willing to take her in to adopt her. Raising Lyn was not easy though, her conductiod side causing many problems, Ken often having to call Ben over for help. But despite it all they stuck through it, and she is a proud member of the Tennyson family. Lyn is often stubborn and impulsive, dealing with insecurities, and just not being good with her words and emotions. But she has a lot of energy to showcase, and likes being involved in things, including a passion for music. -Desic- The 37-year-old son of Neriulea (OC) and step-son of Abacas (OC). Neriulea had her son with a toxic ex, leading to Desic to be rather protective of his mother from a young age. So when finding her going out with the First Thinker's new student, Abacas, you can imagine his distaste for a while. But eventually Abacas got Desic to warm up to him, especially when seeing his mother so happy with someone. Desic even welcomed the idea of adopting all his younger siblings, and has become quite the family man. He can seem standoffish to people, but is quite kind, gentle and patient, perhaps just a little stern and too honest at times. -Zenium- The adopted 16-year-old son (FtM) of Neriulea (OC) Abacas (OC). Admittedly the pair had not thought about adopting, but Neriulea had a habit of picking up young orphans she couldn't help but want to take in and mother, Zenium being the first. Abacas had been helping a field trip on galvan prime for a Plumber run orphanage, with Neriulea helping that day. She ended up being distracted by Zenium, who was so keen to ask her many many questions about galvans and galvan prime, and basically any question he had ever thought of. Smitten by his cuteness, and his clear intelligence, next thing Abacas knew they were signing the adoption papers. Zenium, like most his species, has a hummingbird brain, but he uses it to be a bit of an overachiever, always completing tasks, finding work to do, and doing tests and experiment, finding that he fits quite well on galvan prime. -Armophous- The adopted 15-year-old child of Neriulea (OC) Abacas (OC). Armophous is what necrofriggins call 'late/early winter' children, that being necrofriggin kids that are not born during the correct time/cycle. It's fairly common for late/early winter children to die off early, being born at a time not suited for children. Neriulea and Abacas found them barely alive while out in an expedition in space, having been trying to study a meteor shower, finding Armophous on a long rock. They would have most likely died without their help, and due to the many sleepless nights the couple put into nurturing them back to health, it was only a matter of time before they considered the child their own. Armophous is rather quiet, not having a lot to say, preferring to stick close to a family member and have them do the speaking, many suspecting their near-death experience causing some separation anxiety. But Armophous is quite smart, noticing things that many wouldn't pay attention to, taking life slowly to take in the details around them. -Atrella Ame- The adopted 13-year-old daughter of Neriulea (OC) Abacas (OC). Much like her siblings, Atrella was not planned for, but fate decided otherwise. She was found looking for food in a galvan storage wharehouse, very far from the Anur System. No one knows exactly how she got here, their best guess that she somehow got into a shipment system from the Anur System, all the way to Galvan Prime, and from what they could get out of her, it seems like she didn't have any family waiting back home either. Due to the bad image Anur aliens have, Neriulea fear that no one would take Atrella in, and convinced Abacas to adopt the young girl, given their experience with having many different alien children. Unlike most of her kind, Atrella is a pacifist, and hates getting involved with fights, instead loves science like most of her family, studying animal science and biology. She's a cuddly, sweet young girl, who loves making friends, though faces a lot of problems due to how people view her people, and Anur aliens in general. But she keeps her head high, and does her best to seem friendly. -Aurora Mann- The 17-year-old daughter of Lucy. Having never settled down, nor wanting to, Lucy did have an adventurous dating life as a Plumber. One night she hit it off with who she thought was a lenopan like her, but it wasn't until she eventually found she was pregnant, had her daughter, and discovered her child had the spark, did she realize that she ended up sleeping with an anodite. But she took it in her stride, and was happy enough being a single mother, getting help from Gwen whenever anodite problems came up. Aurora, like her mother, likes being a jokester, eager to make people laugh and keep spirits high, and being affectionate towards those she's close with. She does struggle with negative things in life, eager for things to be positive, which can cause problems, but she knows how to get a good laugh out of someone at the end of the day. -Disa Mann- The adopted 15-year-old child (Bigender) of Lucy. While on a Plumber mission, Lucy ran into a young Disa while on patrol, the splixon causally walking up to her and asking what she was doing. This lead to Disa spending time with Lucy on her patrols, chatting and enjoying each other's company, Lucy even began bringing extra food with her to have some snacks with the kids. It didn't take her long to learn that while Disa was a local kid, she actually didn't have a family, being a street kid. So by the time Lucy was done with her mission, she had formed a bond with Disa, and couldn't leave him behind. She offered to take him home, which Disa eagerly agreed to, becoming Lucy's second kid. Disa is rather chill for a splixon, her kind of pranks and jokes being to appear out of nowhere to scare people, or intentionally being weird to confuse people. Due to being from the streets, he also has a habit of taking things without asking, but doesn't mean any harm and will give back if asked. -Kelly Mann- The adopted 9-year-old daughter of Lucy. Kelly was originally the daughter of a good friend of Lucy's, a teammate she had on her Plumber squad. Unfortunately a mission went wrong, resulting in the death of this friend, and Lucy, wanting to honor her friend, adopted her child, Kelly having been just an egg still during all of this. While Lucy had held herself high when having the other two kids, she did admittedly struggle quite a lot with Kelly, due to the emotional connection to her mother, and the guilt behind what happened. It didn't help that was Kelly grew out of her grub stage, she was destructive like most Orthopterran, but Lucy made it work, having family to back her up. Kelly is a chaotic, but lovable young girl, with so much energy to spend, and you can't help but smile when being around her, and the energy she radiates. -Cyra Albright- The 12-year-old daughter of Alan and Idalia (OC). Having been close with Ester, Alan met his eventual wife through her, meeting Idalia the Kraaho. Their daughter takes on a lot of Alan's traits, being hardworking, a little unsure, but eager to do the right thing, things never sitting well for her if she can't solve a problem. Though due to being young and unsure, she does often need someone with her to bring out her confidence, being more suited for teamwork than solo work. She prefers hanging out with slightly older teens than kids her age, people like Jay being the few exceptions. -Tiffin- The 32-year-old son of Cicely. Having been saved by Ben as a baby, Tiffin got to grow up as the first born prince to become king in his people, and he made many changes along the way, Ben and his mother backing him up the entire time. Tiffin is a kind, graceful ruler, but will stand up for himself and his people if others dare try and push him, tired of seeing what kind of trash his people were put through. For heaven's sake, he was offered a peace tribute and almost eaten as a baby. It is a stressful job though, with many not liking the changes, or not sure how to approach them at the very least. But Tiffin doesn't let anything slow him down. He is also very much a mama's boy, and gives his mother anything to make her happy, knowing all the hardship she had to grow through when he was young. -Aife Redwind- The 17-year-old daughter of Looma. As the current heir to the Redwind throne, Aife is a star child just like her mother, always training, always learning, and always eager to be the best. But she is a humble woman, in fact she loves being a couch for others, wanting people to be the best they can be, even if she can go a little too hard into the cheering and eagerness. She is a prime example of her people's culture, and all that they stand for, though Aife is more focused on improving her people than conquering more land. But the call to battle isn't lost on her, and as a true warrior she is always willing to throw down. -Nastas Green- The adopted 15-year-old son (FtM) of Kai and Ester. Nastas was found by Kai during her trip to Pyros, having been called by them to help them research and old underground temple they found. Kai caught Nastas trying to steal some old artifacts, revealing he wanted to sell them to get food, as he lived on the streets at the time. Not about to let someone take important artifacts, she was quick to take them back, though Ester stepped in and got Nastas some food, despite his obvious distrust. While Kai was unsure, she eventually came around to being nice to the kid, knowing he was having a rough life, Kai even being the one to pick up on that fact he ran away from home, not being abandoned. Nastas didn't reveal a lot about his original home life, but Kai and Ester know it wasn't good. Not wanting to leave the poor kid, they took him back to earth in hopes to help him find a family, which somehow ended up being them. Due to his history, it took a lot of trial and error for Kai and Ester to figure out the family lifestyle with him, but he's settled in over the years. Stubborn, not the best at socializing, and can be quite honest, Nastas can be hard to make friends with, but if you put in the time, many find that he is soft underneath, and has a lot of wisdom to share, trust just being a hard concept for him. -Kadota- The 20-year-old daughter of Subdora and Exo-skull. Having been born into the life of time-travel, Kadota is a world hopping, time gal who loves adventure. Since her family by then was working under Paradox, she became an assistant to the man, a student even. She loves doing missions for him, often using stealth to get around problems. She has a charming personality, having fun when doing her jobs, even if she may get a bit carried away. She considers Eon to be her uncle, and despite his usual personality, like her mother he has a soft spot for her, giving her tips and tricks to help on the field. -Eternal King Rian Driscoll- The 40-year-old son of Driscoll. Like Charlotte, Rian ended up remaking his own Forever Knight faction, becoming he Eternal King. But unlike Charlotte, he has the opposite plans to her. He hates aliens, and anything related to them, doing anything in his powers to try and drive them away from places on earth, even out of earth he needed. He doesn't do this without his reasons, from his perspective outside forces have done so much damage to earth, what with countless alien invasions, Ben drawing villains to earth, and even his and Charlotte's fathers being killed by a demon from another world. He can't trust outsiders, after what aliens have done to earth, and refuses to listen to reason. Him and Charlotte often butt heads over what humans need and want, and how to approach the alien side of things. -OneOne- The 18-year-old youngest brother of the number bounty hunters. Being the final child of his family, Oneone has a lot to do to catch up with his siblings. He handles a lot of tech stuff, upgrading weapons, tools and learning a lot of hacking skills. He's often arrogant though, and not a team player, even when working with his siblings, much to their annoyance. EightEight has often forced him to work on some team missions with Jay and his group, EightEight calling in favours from Ben. OneOne gets frustrated during these events, and will be vocal about his annoyance, though there are moments that show he can be a team player, and has the potential to be something more, but ends up being lazy about it. -Rigel- The 16-year-old apprentice of Psyphon. At one point, a Zaroffian woman joined Psyphon's team, seemingly in desperate need for money. She was fairly distant, though Psyphon did his best to respect her and managed to get her to warm up a little, Psyphon hoping to make her a permanent member of the team. That was, until, she tragically died during a raid gone wrong. Feeling responsible, Psyphon thought the best thing he could do was go clean up her home, to keep her valuable safe before anyone tried stealing anything. But whoops! Turns out she had a child, Rigel, which cause a lot of internal conflict for Psyphon. On the one hand, he's not running a daycare, on the other hand, Rigel is just a kid, one who lost their mother on Psyphon's watch. So he took the kid under his wing, mentoring Rigel, though it is far from perfect. Rigel is a typical moody, seemingly uncaring teen, often on their phone and watching Psyphon suffer as a leader many, many times. Rigel often hangs out with Dotti and Risley, being their only friends, and being that group's only braincell many times. -Gabrielle Nocturne- The 13-year-old daughter of Jennifer and Hervé. Gabby is the best friend of Jay and Renata, the trio being close due to their many playdates growing up. Being a girly girl and proud of it, Gabby loves pink, dressing up and most feminine things, having been the one Jay learnt a lot of makeup tips from. Inspired by her mother's acting career as a kid, Gabby became a child model, despite her mother's concerns at first. But with some reasoning from Hervé, Jennifer eventually agreed as long as her and Hervé got to pick what she got involved with, being responsible so that their daughter doesn't get caught up in anything like Jennifer once had been. This has led Gabby to being a bit of a child star, but with her family looking out for her, she's often felt safe in her line of work, plus, dressing up is fun. -Aleena- The 15 year-old teammate of Feike. Aleena and her older sister were raised to basically be living weapons, their parents strict, letting people hire their kids to do jobs or even assassinate people. Though her older sister was clearly the favourite, Aleena getting more of the harsh treatment from her parents. She ended up running into Feike when they both had the same mission, and seeing the kind of situation she was in, offer her a way to ditch and join him instead. While she hesitated at first, she eventually decided to screw her family over and became the first member of Feike's squad, working under Sciros who was keen to use her abilities. Aleena is cold and calculated, her training dug deep into her. She doesn't like fooling around on the job, preferring to get things done perfectly. She has a lot of unusual knowledge, including how to kill someone pretty fast, but she's found some amusement using this knowledge to scare people, just a bit. -Pallana- The 15 year-old teammate of Feike. Pallana was traded over by her family to became a slave on her homeworld as a child, so had an awful childhood being treated like nothing. She ended up finding Feike one day sneaking into the home she was in, stealing something, and instead of ratting on him, she ended up helping him steal what he wanted as pitty revenge on the homeowners. Seeing the skill she has, and not liking the home life she had, Feike was quick to offer her a place on his team, which she eagerly agreed to, finding the thrill of the whole mission to be a delight. Once joining Feike and working under Sciros, her true colours shined, being bright, playful and always looking to have fun. She's considered the most sociable out of the team, and doesn't let her past weigh her down in her life anymore. -Arlic- The 16 year-old teammate of Feike. Arlic was originally part of one of the richest families on his homeworld, meaning he had a lot to live up to. Problem was, he was the middle child among many, and I mean many siblings, to the point his parents didn't even known his name. He was so use to feeling alone, neglected, and lost that he has a bad habit of thinking he's not worth anything, despite his royal-like background. It wasn't until he got caught up in a mission Feike, Aleena and Pallana were own by mistake that he felt something other than depression in such a long time. He was the one who asked them if he could join, knowing full well his family wouldn't miss him, being right when Sciros showed him later on that they hadn't even noticed he was gone. Arlic is quiet, proper and not the best at putting himself first. He tends to let the others speak, but they often ask him to speak his mind too, helping him out of his shell over the years together.
-Wes- The 14 year-old teammate of Feike. Wes doesn't remember much of his young life, only that he was taken in by a cruel caregiver, who merely used Wes as a test subject, his polymorph biology being a point of interest by the man. Wes went through a lot of abuse and torment by the time Feike and the others found him, sickened by the treatment he went through, and brought him back with them. This has lead Wes to being a bit of a stuttering shy mess, getting caught up in his words or nervous when taking on jobs alone, but he has a very soft, caring side to him, and is very supportive towards his friends, and in return they are very protective of him.
-Sereia Murray- The 15-year-old daughter of Cash Murray and Sphyraena (OC). Her parents met when Sphyraena crashed Cash's beach party during a trip she on to earth for her studies. Sereia is very much an ocean gal, what with her fish side, and her father's fishing industry, it's only natural for her. She's loud, proud, and isn't afraid to speak her mind, having a job as a life guard on the local beach. She can be scary to most when first meeting her, due to her alien side, those her know her know she's just a party loving, out there woman, with a lot of confidence to show. She's not good with boredom, and will do anything to entertain herself.
-Becky Armstrong- The 18-year-old daughter of Manny and Helen. Being quite the hybrid of powers, Becky was a lot for her parents growing up, having so much energy to spare while being able to break down walls just by running into them, she was quite the handful. Thankfully as she got older she was easier to manage, being quite the responsible person. She now runs her own Plumber rookie team, with Aurora, Cyra and Channer being her teammates, and rivals with the Omni Squad, that being Jay, Malax, Thea and Rilla. Becky takes her role as leader seriously, making sure her team is in tip top shape, even a bit of a clean freak. Though despite being fun rivals with the Omni Squad, she may or may not have picked up a little nagging crush on the the other team's medical expert. But it's whatever, she can handle it. -Luca Grandsmith- The adopted 13-year-old son of Eddie and Todd. Wanting to finally start a family, and Eddie needing and heir, it was no surprise when they brought home a child they adopted, something they had been planning for a long time. Luca takes on a lot from his father Eddie, being clean, sharp, mature, stern, and knowledgeable, willing to take on a lot of work when it comes to being the heir to his father's business, even if Eddie often hesitates, afraid to give Luca the same childhood he once had. Thankfully Todd is a good middle ground, and Luca has learnt a lot about compassion from his dad, in fact between that and all the work Eddie has put into Omnitrix city, Luca is quite passionate towards the work of helping humans and aliens crossover, upgrading earth to join the galaxy.   -Channer Daniels- The 15-year-old child (Genderfuild) of Cooper. Having their father's power, Channer is quite intelligent, an a master with tech, often crafting, researching and building. Channer also has a dry wit sense of humor, and enjoys teasing people, finding it easy to get a rise out of most. They are honest in the way they speak, with a confidence about them so they lack hesitation. They're known to spend countless hours or even days locked away working on projects in secret, often having to be dragged away by friends to go see some sunlight. -Pandora- The 14-year-old daughter of Attea. Being very similar to her mother, Pandora is a spoiled princess and she knows it very well, often showing off and eager to get what she wants. She's not afraid to speak her mind, and holds a lot of pride, the perfect heir to Attea, having a lot of fun banters with her mother. She likes to out on the field often, mostly alone, since she enjoys the thrill and journey of it. Especially since paperwork and long meetings aren't her kind of thing. Her daredevil needs making her do just about anything to have some fun. -Khafi'shara- The 20-year-old daughter (MtF) of Ra'ad. Unlike the other Andromeda members, Ra'ad ended up settling down and starting a family of his own, mostly due to looking back on his life and not enjoying where he stood. Despite his scars from Aggregor, and his coward nature, he did he best to be a father to his daughter, and Khafi loves her father. She's a bubbly, friendly and out there girl, having joined in building a bigger bridge between Andromeda and the Milky Way. Her father wants to make sure he becomes nothing like him, despite her looking up to him, causing some awkward moments between the two, but are always there for each other nonetheless. -Sebastian Lightveil- The 18-year-old son of Antonio and Sunny. Despite all the disapprovement towards the couple, they eventually had a kid and proved they could have a happy and stable family. Well, stable as one could be which such a chaotic couple. Seb's parents raised him with a lot of freedom, not wanting their child to feel restricted like they had felt as a kids, which while that does allow Seb to be who he is, sometimes it can cause him to be a little unawaren to the destruction he may cause. He has his parents need for adventure, and with his anodite side he is often out and about looking for things to find, fight or collect. But he's not cruel or mean as most would think, in fact he's very lovable, and always visits his family to spend time with, no matter where in the galaxy, often appearing without notice. -Ta-Las- The 19-year-old student of Eunice. Ta-las was taken under Eunice's wing when she wanted to become a mentor, planning on retiring from being Azmuth's bodyguard, Ta-Las eagerly accepting the role. He is quite respectable, loyal and wise, willing to learn and hear people out, a bit of a stickler for the rules and keeping things in order. Because of his upbringing, he hasn't venture outside of his homeworld or Galvan Prime that often, so he does lack experience with the outside world, something Eunice is hoping to change. -Star- The 33-year-old friend of Arlo. Star was adopted but a group of Laconereals, having been abandoned by their siblings due to being mute and unable to keep up with them. Star was accepted into their adopted family quickly, and has never felt out of place among them. They were eventually discovered by Arlo when they were practicing their anodite magic in space, Star coming up behind Arlo out of curiosity. Eager to get to know this myterious figure, Star became Arlo's first proper friend outside of their siblings. Star is a curious, playful and adventurous person, contrasting Arlo's quiet, shy and soft nature.

I'll Make It Okay for You - Part 2
Pairing: Harvey Specter x Reader
Word count: 2,765
Warnings: Discussion, yelling, some angst, mentions of drugs, drug abuse, drug withdrawal, rehab facility and insecurities/self-sabotage (very, very slightly, tho).
Summary: You can read Part 1 here. What happens when (y/n) (y/l/n), Harvey’s secret crush and a junior partner at his firm, openly defies him in front of everyone?
Disclaimer: I don’t own the show Suits, or its characters, also not associated with it in any way or know anyone involved with it.
A/N: I think that this turned out better than Part 1? As always, I’m not sure, though. Just to make it clear here, I’m still on season 4 of Suits, so didn’t wanna get too much into any canonic details, self-preservation, lol. Anyhow, I hope you like it, and, ofc, feedback is always appreciated.
(y/n) = (your name) (y/l/n) = (your last name) (y/n/n) = (your nickname)
Tumblr media
You and Harvey stayed in the embrace for a while, as you sunk in all the comfort emanating from him. He'd even started stroking your hair. The whole situation felt so intimate, that, by the time the two of you finally pulled away from each other, it was almost as if there was this cloud of embarrassment hovering around you both.
"Err… I'm s- sorry, I shouldn't have, um-" You started saying nervously but he cut you off.
"No, it's okay. And, um, I'm really glad you told me what happened… It's definitely a lot to deal with. And I was a complete asshole this morning. So I'm sorry." For a moment both you and Harvey just smiled at each other, sitting there in a comfortable silence. Until he decided to break it: "So, um, did you get her a lawyer? I'm assuming you wouldn't wanna represent her yourself because it could be problematic…"
"No, uh, yeah. It would be problematic.” You corrected him. “But the most I could do was make the cops get her a public defender, cause I called my dad when I was on the way there and he just wouldn't have me paying for anything else. He is a retired cop, so the pension isn't too great, the pride though… And I’m already covering Lisa's treatment because it's her best shot, but this…"
"And he wants to teach her a lesson." He completed what you were trying to explain.
"Yes."
"And you don't agree with him?" Harvey asked, almost reading your mind.
"Well, it's complicated. Because when I see what Kat's doing with her life… I get just as frustrated as my parents, and I really do want what's best for Henry." The fact that your sister wasn't what's best for her son was only implied. "But she's my little sister, you know?" As he nodded in understanding, you went on: "I wanna help her, but, at least for now, I think I'm just gonna wait and see if mom and dad change their minds… Which I think they will do! I mean, my dad was a cop for years. He knows what those places do to people. As much as we all desperately want her to get her shit together, I don't think that prison is where she'll succeed in doing so." You finished, voice filled with concern.
"Well, I don't think I would be as lenient, and compassionate, as you are, but I do see your point." Harvey told with a sympathetic smile. "Besides, she is your sister. And, trust me, I know what it is like to go out of your way to keep a sibling outta trouble." He added with a tired sigh, making you wonder how much you really knew about the man sitting in front of you.
"Either way, now I don't see much that I can do for her at the moment. Gonna try and have her attorney keep me posted, of course, but…"
"Yeah…"
"I just… I can't help but feel guilty about all of this, you know?" You said, after having stood up and turned your back on him, finally letting on what was bothering you the most to the other lawyer.
"No, not really, I don't." He stated simply while you just looked back at him with a shocked expression on your face. "I mean, there's not a single approach on this that makes me think you're to blame for anything." He explained himself, standing up as well this time.
"Harvey, I-"
"No, (y/n), let me stop you right there. What I see here is a family going through a rough situation with one of its members. Then three of the other members just try to do everything they can to get out of the initial situation, while another one just keeps making more problems for her family. And, right now? Today? You walked out on your bosses, risking a lot, to take care of your nephew. So, tell me again, how is it that any of these things happening to your sister are your fault when you’ve done nothing but help everyone in that goddamn family of yours, huh?" He asked you in a sarcastic tone.
“Well, it is very much my fault because I’m her big sister! I should have been there for her! Advising her, helping her, just, just being her friend…” You confessed your regrets to Harvey. “But, instead, I was too busy making my career.”
“And what the hell’s wrong with that? Look, I’m a big brother too. I get it. Ever since we were kids our parents imbued us with the role of ‘the responsible one’, always telling us to look after the youngest… But, hey! If you just threw all of your work up in the air and left running every time your sister had a run-in with a problem, you wouldn’t have made it this far! Not in this field anyway!” He practically spit the words in your face, going to battle with your self-sabotage, which was a very new side of you for him. “And you’re a freaking great lawyer! One of the best that firm’s ever seen. So don’t be sorry that you didn’t sacrifice all of that for being better than the amazing sister you probably already were!”
“You simply can’t know that.” You stated in a low voice, not really knowing how to respond to everything Harvey had just told you. He really thought all that about you?
“Yes, I can!” He yelled back, stepping closer towards you. “I can know that for a fact, because,” he started again, his face pretty close to yours this time, “because, I’m beginning to finally understand, even if just a little bit, who you really are. And because I always notice all the little things when it comes to you, which, in my experience, is how you actually get to know someone. You know, the details.” He told you in the sweetest tone, giving you a charming-Specter-like smile, he leaned closer, if that was even possible, God, was he gonna kiss you?
You had to pull away slightly, just enough for him to get the message. And, boy, how you regretted it! Sure, normally, you’d have a ton of bad things to say about him, but after that night… It wasn’t really that bad of an idea, the one of Harvey kissing you. No, nuh-uh! What were you thinking?! If much, you and Harvey were beginning a friendship there! And you couldn’t, or wouldn’t, let some ridiculous thoughts about how great he smelled rob you from that opportunity! Your inner struggle was interrupted by him saying:
“Hum, I- I should probably go, right? It’s, um, it’s getting pretty late…” He said nervously. You should be relieved right now. Because this assures that things between you and Harvey (your new friend?) aren’t gonna go too off the railroads anytime soon.
“Yeah, yeah. I’ll, uh, I’ll walk you to the door.” So why is it that you sounded almost disappointed when you said that? “You know what they say, you gotta walk people to the door if you ever want them to come back…” You joked a little, trying to lighten the mood.
“Yeah, right.” He shot back simply, with a small smile on his lips. “Bye, (y/n). Have a good night.”
“Thanks, you too.” You watched him turning around to leave when you remembered there was something else that Harvey deserved to hear from you. “Uh, Harvey!” You called out.
“Yeah?” He asked, turning back around to face you. And before you could even think it through one more time, you were already jumping in his arms, wrapping him in a tight hug.
“Thank you. For tonight. For everything.” You told him, as he slowly put his arms around your waist, hugging you back.
“It was no problem, (y/n), really. That’s what friends are for.” And, just like that, your day ⎼ turned into night ⎼ had gone from Earth to Hell, and, now, to Heaven.
                                                       ---
Around 7:30 in the next morning, as you gathered some of your work stuff, you heard someone knocking on the door. Who could it possibly be this time? You asked yourself while walking there to open it.
Once again you were surprised to be met by none other than Harvey Your-New-Friend Specter standing at your doorstep. With your supposedly locked-up little sister in tow. What the hell?
“Before you say anything,” he started, “this time I come bearing gifts!” He practically beamed at you, as Kat threw herself in your arms.
“Yeah- yeah, um, I can see that.” You stated, still very confused with the whole situation.
“Thank you so much for sending your friend to bail me out, sis!” Your sister squealed out. She looked so pale and thin; winter-like clothes on, even though it was only the beginning of the fall; and she was shaking. Effects of a rushed withdrawal, you guessed. “You’re the best! Now, where’s my little baby?” She asked you, as if everything that had happened was nothing.
“He’s, uh, he’s in a day-care facility. The best in the city, you have nothing to worry about.” You informed her, who seemed rather relieved to hear that news. “Can you, uh, can you please stay here for a minute while I talk to my, uh, my friend in the office, Kat?” You asked her with a calm smile on your lips.
“Yeah, of course. I’m not gonna break anything I promise!” She told you, sounding a lot like a wicked child.
“No, um, I know you won’t. If you want something to eat, please, help yourself.” You assured her, motioning to the kitchen.
“Oh, no! I’m not hungry! Mr.Specter took me to a diner before we came here.” She let you know, which just made you even more surprised, and confused.
“Oh, he did? Well, that was very nice of yours, Harvey. So, come with me?” You asked him in a sort of mockery tone while pointing to the room he’d just been in, the night before.
As soon as the two of you stepped into the office, Harvey started desperately: “(y/n), before you come at me for not running this by you first, just, please, hear me out for a second.” He pleaded with you, to which you just nodded your head. “So, last night. I heard what you said about your dad, and you don’t have to worry about paying me anything. I’m representing your sister as a friend of yours.”
“Wait a second. You mean you’re taking this pro-bono? Harvey, you do that and the whole firm is gonna know. And you promised.” You quickly accused him, even though you were very thankful for the way he just stepped up to solve one of your problems.
“I know! Let me finish, will you?” You nodded again while muttering an apology. “I’m not going to break your trust. And I’m not handling this pro-bono. The only people I’ll have to loop in are Jessica and Donna. And you know they won’t say anything.” He told you, but you were still a bit confused. “And, before you even ask, no, that doesn’t mean that either you or your family will be paying me anything. Also, I got your sister a spot in a top-of-line, very discrete, rehab facility, I have a friend over there, who said we can drop her off at any time. I just, um, figured that it’d be the best if she got professional help this time. Plus, on my talk with her, she agreed to sign papers that make you and your parents Henry’s temporary guardians. I really think that Kat wants to turn her life around this time, (y/n). She was very- Did I do something wrong? Because, err, you know me… I always find it easier to ask for forgiveness instead of permission, but, this time, I really did think that this would make you happy...” He trailed off with a confused look on his face while scratching the back of his neck
“Oh, I am happy.” You told him, still looking absolutely stunned.
“Then why, uh, why don’t you look happy?” He asked, sounding a bit hurt.
“It’s just that… I’m kind of surprised. How did you even think of all those things?”
“I, uh, it’s like I said yesterday, I notice things about you. And I really listened to what you told me last night. So I just started thinking about ways that I could solve this thing for you, ways that I could make you happy again throughout all of this storm.” He told you and it had to be the sweetest thing you’d heard from Harvey (hell, from anyone!) in your entire life. “But I understand that I overstepped, and I’m-” But since he just wouldn’t stop talking anymore, you had to cut him off in order to shut him up.
His eyes were in absolute shock for a moment, as he just stood reactionless in your grip. But then he got the message and pulled you closer, grabbing your waist tightly while your hands stood firmly wrapped around his neck. You were pretty sure that neither one of you was still breathing at that point, but you didn’t care. Because, God, his mouth tasted so good in yours, it was like they’d been made to kiss each other. The despair both of you were investing in the kiss was huge, but it was turning into a calmer kind of fire, as the air started becoming too necessary again. He pulled your mouths apart for a minute, you resting your forehead on his shoulder.
“You know…” He started, still catching his breath. “When I mentioned you coming at me, I hadn’t really envisioned this.” He joked, a victory smile on his lips.
“Ah, well, you know how upset it makes me when you simply won’t shut up.” You shot back with a shrug of your shoulders, smiling at him.
“Huh. Wish you would’ve shut me up like this every other time.” He mocked, earning a smack in the arm from you. “Ouch! Why’d do that?”
“Because you were being a dickhead, ruining our moment.” You gave him a fake irritated glance.
“Oh, c’mon! Tell me you didn’t think about it too!” He challenged, and you didn’t feel like giving him that kind of win at the moment, so you just pulled him back in for another kiss. One that may have lasted a little longer than it should have, considering that you two still needed to take Kat to rehab and, then, go to work so you could try and save your job. But, what could you do if he, and his body, and his mouth, and his eyes, and his everything were the only things that mattered?
As he rested his chin on top of your head ⎼ that was laid on his chest ⎼, you looked up, pulling away a little, him making sure you wouldn’t fall off the small couch. “Thank you, Harvey. For everything you did. For listening. For being here right now. For everything.”
“Don’t thank me, (y/n). You’ll never have to thank me for anything. I just want you to promise me one thing.” He stated seriously.
“What?” You asked, a bit hesitant.
“That, from now on, you’ll tell me all about it, every time you have a problem.” That was easy enough, you thought. But, you being you, simply had to ask.
“So that you can be here for me?” You questioned him with puppy eyes.
He just chuckled lightly. “Well, that too. But, mostly, so that I can make it ⎼ whatever it is ⎼ okay for you.” Your heart was on the edge of not being to take it any longer. What could have you possibly done to deserve that man?
“Okay, I promise.” You said, watching his expression begin to soften already. “But, only if you promise me the same. Because I wanna make it okay for you too.” While you thought Harvey was simply gonna say yes, he started laughing at you.
“Always the kick-ass corporate lawyer, I see.”
“Would you even have me any other way?” You joked back, more relaxed now.
“Yes, of course! I’d have you in any way you came to me. Which is why I promise too.” With that, you didn’t have any other choice but to kiss him again, because crying over the fact that Harvey Surprisingly-Romantic Specter was an absolute cinnamon roll was not an option.

Nesta was torn.
Half of her thought that Cassian was overreacting, but the other half of her thought that his anger and frustration was perfectly justified.
What exactly were they getting into? And, was it what was best for Nyx? Yeah, the last month had been great, but if it didn’t work out, what would that mean for him? Would it be better if she and Cassian had simply remained two friends, co-parenting under one roof?
Nesta’s heart began to beat a little faster.
She felt like she was going into a panic attack.
Cassian and Nyx had been gone for an hour, and every second that passed became more and more unbearable.
She needed him to be there.
She needed to figure this out.
She just didn’t know what the answer was.
Alis had gotten into her head, there was no doubt about that. A little over an hour ago, she was living in a dream, then Alis came in, out of nowhere, and brought her back to reality.
She was sitting on the couch, almost exactly where he’d left her, when he finally returned. He was covered in sweat, his t-shirt sticking to him. Nyx was having a conversation with him, more to himself though, since it didn’t seem like Cassian was even close to paying attention to him. But his eyes went directly to Nesta as soon as he walked in.
She’d changed. She no longer wore his t-shirt, instead in a loose shirt of her own and a pair of jeans, and her hair was loose and wet around her face. As if she’d need to shower their night together, shower him off of her. Not a shred of that beautiful skin was showing, not like she’d been doing lately. Leggings and shorts and tank tops. She’d been comfortable around him.
With a scoff, Cassian set Nyx down on the floor. He headed for the stairs, but Nesta stood, nearly toppling the cup of coffee she’d been clutching over as she set it on the coffee table. “Cassian, we need to talk about this.”
He paused, waving a hand towards her. “What for? It looks like you’ve already made your decision.”
“I need you to calm down,” she said, steadily. “I need you to think logically.”
Cassian closed his eyes and took a deep breath. “I need you to tell me.”
Nesta hesitated. “Tell you what?”
“If this is something you want to pursue or if I just wasted the last couple months falling in love with you,” he finished.
His voice may have lacked emotion, but Nesta felt every word like a stab in the chest. Falling in love with you. Those were the words she was going to tell him today, under much different circumstances.
Now, she didn’t know what to think.
Now, she was overwhelmed.
Now, all of her thoughts were rushing toward the same spot in the middle of her skull at a thousand miles an hour, and when they got there, her head would explode.
“It’s not that easy,” she said, and her voice cracked.
“But it should be,” Cassian said. “If you feel the way that I do, it should be that easy.”
“We have to think of Nyx,” she breathed.
“I am thinking of Nyx,” he said, struggling to keep his voice low. At the sound of his name, the baby turned to look at him. “I want him to grow up in a happy home, seeing two people who love each other, and damn it if that isn’t how it’s been for the past few weeks.”
“It’s not that simple,” Nesta said, shaking her head. “What happens if we break up? What happens if we get in a fight or something happens to one of us? What then?”
He had strode down the stairs and was in front of her before he could stop himself. He framed her face in his hands, like he had so many times the past month, to kiss her, to make love to her, to show her how he cared for her. “Why are you worrying about the what if’s? Why are you worrying about what could go wrong, rather than how right everything has been?”
Because everything goes wrong eventually. The only reason we’re together is because we were shoved into this house after the worst thing imaginable happened. They died. We took over. What right do we have to be happy?
The words flooded her mind, but stilled on her tongue.
Nesta didn’t push him away. She wanted to reach up on her toes and kiss him, softly, but she didn’t.
Instead, she met his gaze. “Cass,” she breathed.
The pain in his eyes nearly shattered her heart into a million pieces.
Nyx had walked up to them and was hugging Nesta’s leg, as if he knew that she needed the comfort.
“Dont say my name like that,” he whispered.
Nesta slowly shook her head. “I just think this has all happened too quickly. We haven’t been thinking, we’ve just been acting-.”
“You’re pushing me away,” Cassian interrupted, swallowing harshly. “Damn it, Nesta.”
“You don’t understand,” she pleaded.
“Because you’re not making sense,” he argued. “Things have been perfect—”
“They’re dead!” She cried, pulling from his grip, scooping Nyx up. “Things have been far from perfect. We’re only like this now because Rhys and Feyre are dead.”
The words seemed to freeze something inside of Cassian and he stepped back as well. “So what? We go back to how we used to be? I’m back in the guest room and we awkwardly exchange good mornings over breakfast?”
She closed her eyes, trying to block out the sight of him, the scent of him, everything. “I don’t know, Cassian, I don’t—.” She took a shuddering breath, her arms wrapping tighter around Nyx. “I just need some time to think, to breathe…”
When she looked back up at him, his jaw was set and he was slowly nodding. “Fine. Take your time.”
And then he was moving, back up the stairs before Nesta could even ask what he was doing.
A few minutes later, he was back with a duffle bag in his hands.
“Wh—what are you doing?”
“Giving you space,” he said, refusing to meet her gaze.
Nesta opened her mouth but nothing came out. She was frozen where she stood, her feet stuck to the floor, her mouth hanging open, that panic rising from the pit of her stomach into her heart, which was beating far too quickly.
Cassian kissed Nyx on the forehead as he passed, but paid Nesta no mind as he went for the door.
“Cassian!” She called, at last.
Cassian stopped just in front of the door, keeping his back to her, one hand on the doorknob.
“You're just going to leave?” She asked, quietly, bouncing a sleepy Nyx on her hip. “Just like that?”
Cassian didn’t turn around. “Are you going to ask me to stay?”
Yes. No. I don’t know. Nesta said nothing.
“I’ll talk to you tomorrow,” he grumbled, exhaustion lacing his tone. “Maybe I need time to think, too.”
He opened the door and shut it softly behind him.
*
He didn’t know where else to go. He didn’t have anywhere else to go.
He knew where he wanted to be, but right now…
He couldn’t look at her.
It didn’t escape him that when he’d told her he’d fallen in love with her, she didn’t say it back. He couldn’t even act like he hadn’t seen her eyes flare in panic. So he couldn’t stay there. Couldn’t go back to sleeping in that guest room, not when he’d become so used to sleeping with her in his arms every night.
So Cassian had ended up here, knocking on his brother’s door, thankful that his car had been parked in the driveway when he pulled up.
He needed a drink. He needed someone to tell him he was being an asshole. He needed someone to listen while he vented and bitched. He knew Azriel would do all that for him.
When he answered the door, Seph was in his arms, pulling on his bottom lip. She smiled when she saw Cassian, but Azriel’s surprised smile quickly faded.
“Do I want to know?” He asked, looking at the duffel bag tossed over Cassian’s shoulder.
Cassian sighed, raking a hand through his hair. “Can I sleep here tonight?”
Azriel stared at him for a second before stepping aside and letting Cassian pass.
“Are we talking about this now or later?” Azriel asked, shutting the door behind them.
“Beer?” Cassian asked, dropping his bag beside the couch.
“Fridge,” Azriel said, slowly, watching him.
Cassian made his way to the kitchen and threw open the refrigerator door, grabbing a cold bottle and chugging its contents.
Azriel followed, leaning against the countertop and Seph continued to play with his lips.
“Where’s Elain?” Cassian asked, tossing the empty bottle into the trash and getting another.
“Work,” Azriel said, sighing. “So, if this involves smack talking Nesta, you may want to get it out now.”
He shook his head. He didn’t want to do that, barely wanted to think about her. But he owed Azriel at least some explanation.
“The social worker stopped by this morning,” he sighed, leaning back against the counter and opening the beer. “And honestly, yeah, it was unexpected, but I figured it’d be fine. Last time, Nes was drunk off her ass, but we— I figured, since we were more of a family this time, things would be great.”
Azriel blinked. “They’re not taking Nyx, are they?”
Another shake of his head. “No, gods, no. They— She could tell he was in good hands, but she immediately picked up on Nesta and I. What we’ve…become.”
It seemed, just like Cassian, Azriel didn’t see it as a problem. He wasn’t following. “And?”
“And Nyx was hungry so I left the social worker and Nesta alone to get him breakfast. I came back and she’s gone and Nesta is second-guessing our relationship. She asked if I’m just fucking her out of convenience.”
The thought made him sick to his stomach, almost as badly as it hurt his heart.
“And you replied with…” Azriel began, trailing off, waiting for Cassian to finish the sentence.
“I went for a jog,” Cassian said, shrugging.
“So you ran away?” Azriel pushed.
Cassian shot him a look. “No. I went for a jog.”
Azriel sighed. “And when you came back?”
“She said she needed space,” Cassian said, emptying his bottle.
Azriel set Seph on the floor with a plastic spatula, which she instantly start banging on the cabinets. “And that’s when you ran away?”
“I didn’t run,” Cassian snapped. “I gave her what she wanted. I gave her space.”
Azriel slowly shook his head. “Did you even try to talk things out?”
“Yes,” Cassian said, the word clipped. “Told her I was falling in love with her, and guess how she replied?”
Azriel watched his brother.
“Didn’t say a fucking word,” Cassian finished.
When Azriel didn’t speak, he walked back to the trash can, dropping the bottle inside.
“Quit looking at me like I’m the bad guy here,” he said, unable to turn around and look his brother in the eye. “She was ending it. She was calling things off and I’m supposed to, what? Just keep living there like we were before? Pretend nothing has changed?” He swallowed hard, willing the damn tears clouding his vision to fade. They wouldn’t. “She didn’t even ask me to stay.”
Azriel sighed, opening a cabinet beside the fridge that Seph couldn’t reach. He produced a bottle of whiskey and set it on the counter. “I can’t drink until Elain gets home. And I absolutely think you need to talk to Nesta, but I think you’re right. You need to stay here tonight. Give her space.”
Cassian blinked, and a tear that was holding on slid free, down his cheek. He angrily wiped it away. He felt ridiculous, but it had been a long time since he had told a woman that he loved her. He’d never said it in his adulthood. A couple times in his teens, before he knew what the word really meant, but never as an adult.
He’d said it.
He’d meant it.
And she hadn’t felt the same.
Cassian nodded and poured himself a glass of whiskey.
*
Nesta stared at Cassian’s contact on her phone screen.
She wanted to press the call button, but didn’t.
She did open a blank text a few times, but couldn’t type anything.
She didn’t know what to think, didn’t know what to do.
She knew what she wanted.
She wanted Cassian.
But, she didn’t know if that was a good thing or not.
She had never been one who was dependent on a man, had spent most of her twenties single and having no problem with it. But suddenly, she couldn’t imagine her day to day life without Cassian in it. And that terrified her.
She heard murmuring on the baby monitor sitting next to her on the side table and glanced over to see Nyx sitting up in his crib.
It had been nearly three hours since Cassian left, and aside from putting Nyx down for a nap, Nesta had barely moved. She still sat in the same spot on the couch she’d been in when the social worker had shown up and when she’d ignored that Cassian had said that he loved her.
The words should have filled her with joy and she should have screamed from the rooftops that she loved him, too. Instead she locked up and thought she was going to be sick.
What was wrong with her?
Wiping away the tears she didn’t even realize had fallen, Nesta hurried up the stairs, and into Nyx’s nursery. He reached for her the moment he saw her, his own big, blue eyes beginning to fill with tears.
“What’s wrong, bubba?” She cooed, resting his head against her shoulder.
After a deep sigh, he looked up at her and reached for a tear that had fallen down her cheek. His lip began to wobble.
“I’m okay,” Nesta promised, even though her voice cracked and those tears continued. “I’m okay, buddy, I promise.”
Nyx knew, though.
He knew something wasn’t right.
He knew Cassian was gone.
He knew Nesta was heartbroken.
Little did he know that her heartbreak was self-inflicted.
Nyx laid his head back on her shoulder and clung to her. He stayed like that as she walked back downstairs and sat back in her spot on the couch.
He held onto her, looking around the room. She knew he was looking for him and was about to tell him he wasn’t here when he spoke. The word wasn’t a mash up of noises like it had always been. No, it was a true and steady word. His first word.
“Dada?”
Nesta froze. She didn’t even know what to say. Should she tell him Cassian wasn’t his father? He probably wouldn’t even understand, just like he didn’t understand where Rhys and Feyre had gone.
But…for all intents and purposes, Cassian was his daddy now. And she was his mama.
So she pressed a kiss to his dark hair and whispered. “He had to leave, baby. He had to go for a little while.”
Nesta hoped and prayed that Cassian would walk back through that door, and yet, she couldn’t muster the courage to ask him to.
That night, instead of Cassian taking up the spot next to her, it was Nyx, who held her hand until they both fell asleep.
