might regret engaging with this topic but I find the question “are jewish people indigenous to the land of israel?” to be at best irrelevant to the current geopolitical situation and at worst antisemitic for real, and it’s very frustrating to see people fall into its hole again and again. being indigenous doesn’t make it okay to bomb hospitals. there is a lot to say about the diverse ethnic groups living in israel and how they each came to live there, but it wouldn’t change the reality of human rights violations one way or another.
so when I see people spend their time and energy trying to argue that jews—or at least, some kinds of jews—actually have no ancestral connection to israel, I find that suspect. what does your position gain by asserting that jews are secretly white people in funny hats? well, I guess it makes the argument that israel is a colonial project more straightforward. but if you need jewish people to be alien invaders to strengthen your support for palestinian liberation, I question what is actually pulling on your moral compass. yes, the connection between the people and the land is something that is important and honored in many indigenous peoples movements. but I think there is a tendency for those with a more superficial understanding of the concept (and a certain cultural predilection) to revert to a blood-and-soil impulse that holds the nomadic and diasporic in contempt. violence is more justified if it’s against aliens. violence is more contemptible when perpetrated by aliens. it’s an impulse that, no exaggeration, has been one of the primary killers of jews for hundreds of years.
wherever you believe the jews “really” came from, the people of that place probably disagree with you. my jewish ancestors came to states to escape persecution in eastern europe.* they were considered aliens there, despite their long history in the region. and in gentile imaginations jews are frequently not only aliens but some sort of deceitful, nefarious changelings who merely pretend to belong—who must be rooted out and expelled for the health of the nation.
so, do you see why leaning on “the jews don’t belong there” as a pillar of your understanding props up an antisemitic ideology? do you at least see why many people are going to judge you to be antisemitic no matter how strenuously you insist you do not personally have any problem with jews living in your country? this is not an argument that will lead you anywhere productive. at best you will waste your time on pseudoscientific inquiries into the genetic history of the jewish people. at worst you will find yourself platforming actual nazis.

I imagine the conflict Leo must feel once he learns that he is not only Kefer's son but also a god...
Like, the kid might think that he will have to see his human family die while he still lives or be scared that he might hurt someone with his powers.
Also, do you think that maybe Leo's human family suspected that he was not human?? Maybe saw him lift something too heavy when he was little or maybe Leo's grandpa found out something that linked Leo with the gods?
hi
I can see leo feel conflicted about finding out he is not human and will probably out live his family and most of his friends I also think leo would pass out after the fact the he was basically a God.
Although I would like to add my au about Kay being the egyptian warrior with an ancient spear that likes leo's bracelet, but only because she is technically a descendant of the warriors from egyxos thr more she uses the spear the more she becomes of a goddess. So even when leo outlive his family and friends on earth, he will still have Kay.
Now, getting leo powers, I like to think that wind would fit leo just because, since kefer has the power of lightning. It would make sense for leo to have the power of wind. I also like to think right after leo found out he was adopted was when his powers started to show themselves. After Kefer finds this out, he takes it upon himself to teach leo how to control his powers and then asks anubis and Kay to help leo if his power goes out of control while he is on earth. To Kay Immediate agrees to while anubis is hesitant asking kefer if it was a good idea if he watches leo after his history with D.A. which kefer assured anubis that he had faith in him after he started fighting with them against exaton.
The only one to know that leo was from egyxos was his grandfather. I like to think that leo has a birthmark in the shape of the seal of the kingdom of egyxos, but the birthmark is located on a part of his back were leo didn't even know was there until either his parents or someone from egyxos pointed out. That is one of the reasons his grandfather found out leo from cause before he left earth while he saw the seal from egyxos looked exactly like leo's birthmark. And maybe when they met again in egyxos, Flinn probably thought leo somehow found out the truth.

supernatural s9e11 first born (w. robbie thompson)
this reminds me a bit of teen wolf in the plot overload disorder. i don't think i even bothered mentioning abaddon last episode. too much shit going on! also makes me laugh that we're in the 1800s, teen wolf also had this very weird (not good) flashback for the history of the argents (in the 1700s) 😂
all right, i know it's cain here, but i don't know anything really beyond that. except the mark at some point.
CROWLEY So...is that boudoir smile for me?
crowley's back in his sweet spot of evil but also maybe helpful but also probably trying to fuck you over. much better than just flat evil
CROWLEY I've been chasing that blade for decades. The closest I got to it was when one of my droogs -- Smitty -- got wind of a protégé demon of Abaddon's who claimed knowledge of the blade. Sadly, before Smitty could nab the guy, a hunter by the name of John Winchester nabbed the protégé. I'm here to see if there's anything in the John Winchester memorial library that might lead us to the first blade -- to killing Abaddon. DEAN You want to hunt? With me? CROWLEY I do love a good buddy comedy.
i know people talk up how crowley feels about dean but to me crowley is just horny for literally everyone and/or no one. sheppard is just so charismatic in this part
Tumblr media Tumblr media
why is this so cute!
Tumblr media
laughed out loud, good one. i'm the BEST liar, i totally fucked you both over, don't you remember??? don't besmirch my lying abilities, bro
i thought being totally sober would make me less loquacious but sadly, no ;(
Tumblr media
CROWLEY Is all this really necessary? I mean, I've been inside your brother. We're practically family. DEAN Listen to me. We are the furthest thing from family. You got that, dickbag?
while dean does like to adopt every stray he comes across, the king of hell apparently doesn't qualify 😩
cas seemed disappointed about the lack of an actual guinea pig. understandable
Tumblr media
sam barely keeping it together haha
Tumblr media Tumblr media
hello sarah connor 🔥
Tumblr media
CROWLEY I can help. Dean? DEAN He wants Abaddon as dead as I do. TARA If your daddy could see you now.
stop the doom spiral of guilt, dean. it's complicated, okay??? and shooting the floor in her own shop to break the devil's trap, what the actual fuck 😂
CROWLEY Would you care to join us? TARA Him? Anytime. You? Never.
hot lady who banged his dad, of course she wants to jump dean too. reminds me of this
s7e19 of grave importance
SAM Annie's not usually this late, is she? DEAN No, never. She's totally compulsive. I'll try her cell. SAM You know, uh, you know she and Bobby had a thing, right? DEAN Yeah. Yeah, I knew that. Really? SAM Yeah. Kind of a foxhole thing – very Hemingway. DEAN Huh. She and I kind of went Hemingway this one time, too. SAM All right, well... that happens. DEAN What, you too? SAM Look, it was a while back. We ended up on the same case. She was stressed. I-I-I... I didn't... have a soul. DEAN That's a lot of foxholes.
Tumblr media
what a pretty face! i don't know much religious lore but i wasn't expecting cain to be scary for crowley. i have no idea where he lands in the food chain, in fact
DEAN Why don't you just zap out of here? CROWLEY I'd never leave my domestic partner in crime. DEAN [snorts] Yeah, like your heart grew three sizes. You can't zap out of here, can you?
i wonder if crowley could make it an entire day without flirting with anyone
CASTIEL Sam, the trials. You chose not to go through with them for a reason, didn't you? You chose to live rather than to sacrifice yourself. You and Dean... You chose each other. SAM Yeah, I did. We did. And then... Dean made a choice for me.
😔
how does finding gadreel fix things?
cain became a demon, okay (aha things are clicking that i know from fic lol). so with the whole dean and sam are descended from cain and abel, does that mean cain is grandpa? uncle?
CASTIEL No. Why must the Winchesters run toward death?
good question, cas
Tumblr media
sometimes i wonder how things are lit (in all media, not just spn), if they're trying to give the appearance of someone being on the verge of tears. when you got that highlight near your lower eyelid, it really looks like it regardless of actual tears accumulating. anyway,
SAM My life's not worth any more than anyone else's -- not yours or Dean's...or Kevin's. Please. Please, help me do one thing right. Keep going.
oh, sam.
@shinelikethunder linked this fight scene with rhianna's s&m over it, i may not be feeling the vibes op is talking about but i can appreciate it nonetheless :) it's a really good fight scene for jackles and great song choice. i'm always mourning the spn that could have been with better music 😔
Tumblr media
looking to see if there was a clean version on spotify of s&m out of curiosity and laughing that there's a kids version of the "sex in the air, i don't care i love the smell of it, sticks and stones may break my bones but chains and whips excite me" song
Tumblr media
DEAN Right. Yeah, except I didn't kill my brother. CAIN You saved yours. Why? DEAN Because you never give up on family -- ever. CAIN Where's your brother now, then?
ouch.
also, cain is retired, other demons didn't know where he was, but apparently he still gets the hot gossip on the winchesters somehow.
CASTIEL Sam, I want Gadreel to pay as much as you do. But nothing is worth losing you.
oh i see
ah fucking hell speaking of music, this melody is back. what did i associate it with last time. twilight and something. i think when dean was praying in his room to cas. it's at the very end of this post, i included video of it - s8e16
something about this mushy music has me feeling twilight or hunger games and i'm not sure which. ugh. bella's lullaby / rue's music (but that doesn't even have piano but it does have that plucked acoustic guitar like day before yesterday's s8e14 princess bride-esque music)
and apparently it really was time for sam and cas quality time. but anyway this melody is so familiar, kicks in when cas says the thing about him screwing up more than sam. is it a slowed down version of some spn theme? urgh. question may go unanswered until i rewatch from the beginning.
so anyway, that was a nice moment. i like how robbie is writing cas this episode
DEAN The jawbone of an animal. The jawbone you used to kill Abel because he was God's favorite. CAIN Abel wasn't talking to God. He was talking to Lucifer. Lucifer was gonna make my brother into his pet. I couldn't bear to watch him be corrupted, so I offered a deal -- Abel's soul in heaven for my soul in hell. Lucifer accepted... As long as I was the one who sent Abel to heaven. So, I killed him. Became a soldier of Hell -- a knight.
listen i don't know these stories except for very broad strokes but okaaaay interesting twist
ABADDON We could have been forever, but you chose her. Well, if I can't have you, then neither can she.
i see. ex and you're her... creator? complicated
welp. i didn't know dean was getting the mark in this episode, wheels are in motion
Tumblr media Tumblr media
aw. sweet sammy
CASTIEL As far as I'm concerned, Metatron is the key to fixing everything that's wrong. I'm gonna find him. You know, Sam, we could use all the help we could get to find Gadreel and Metatron.
--
CROWLEY You don't mean that. We're having too much fun. Listen up. Even with the Blade, we're gonna need all the help we can get against Abaddon. DEAN Go find the Blade. CROWLEY It's always something with you boys, isn't it?
cute. but yes, show sure likes to do it!
Tumblr media
i'm sure it's fine

I feel bad about this but despite getting to see characters I like in live-action for the first time the Ashoka series trailer really didn't do anything for me. Like yeah Thrawn and "heir to the empire" They said the thing!!! But ehhh. Don't know if it's burn out or what.
Star Wars, largely regardless of quality, being my comfort food when I'm doomer suicidal as all hell suddenly not working might be evidence of me slipping into a danger zone so that's very much 🙃
Hoping it's temporary and this weekend I'm planning to lock Scott outside of my bedroom with a big beef bone and finally read the Thrawn Trilogy after putting it off for six thousand years (sorry Fishy but holy shit does Scott hate when I try to do literally anything that he's not able to participate in.)
Was much more hyped by how this week's episode of Mando was droid centric and having reprogrammed B1s. 🥺
I love them so much aaaaaaaaa
There's one specific scene where a B1 goes back to old programming but like, they do so in the funniest way. They're like tugging handfuls of clothes out of a box and throwing them around all over the place and it's so fucking funny to me because everyone's like "battle droids are fucking everything up" and it shows this little guy in peak "I fucking hate boxes" energy just doing inconsequential naughty cat behavior.
The old dude kissing Dooku's ass I found pretty funny tbh djfjfjfjtjdjdhfjsbfjsjfjdh ok grandpa separatist warcrimes.
Also I don't fucking trust those mandalorian mercenaries (lead by the one dude) Bo Katan has history with. They're sus and racist. "Ohh Din is adopted so he's not a real mando" for fucks sake do y'all "true mandalorians" even have a viable breeding population at this point? The found family aspect of you guys was literally present in the old EU/Legends for fucks sake. Apparently according to one comic the shape of your fucking helmets was based on the skull shape of the now extinct race that were the "first Mandalorians" like some thousand fuck years ago???? So yeah he's suspicious.
People probably complained about the actor cameos(?) but I felt their characters were fine honestly. They're random extras on some random planet that's flashy and weird. Maybe retreading old ground a bit too much with another entry in "Princess Weird Hair" territory but at least it's consistent so if people were complaining about her for reasons other than Star Wars not trying something new and having another Weird Hair Princess I don't particularly see why. Only one who looked like they were "guest starring themselves" was Jack Black and he was random ex imperial human dude and his acting was fine so I don't think that's really a problem. Got the vibe that the character was forced into military at a young age despite being a silly eccentric soul and after the fall of the empire finally gets to have an adulthood being himself and he's making up for lost time. Who fucking knows. Like I said he's just a random extra who I don't even think will appear again. Star Wars having prominent actors in supporting roles that you can really notice as being those actors has been a thing since the beginning really. I never really experienced that though because of my age. Especially in the original trilogy where I had no idea what some of these actors were known for before and they're literally just type cast as their character to me at that point. I feel Alec Guinness would not like that one bit but I literally cannot see him in any other character. And Prequel Trilogy was largely the same way to me. Like Samuel L Jackson is first and foremost Mace Windu in my brain. I watched the marvel movies and was like "Mace Windu eye patch!!!" Doesn't help that I'm "actor blind" and tend not to even recognize actors a lot of the time in the first place. I only recognized Jack Black in this episode.
Wanted to see more about the Mon calamari prince and his squidhead gf. Is he the same one from the one episode of clone wars? A sibling? Wasn't there a comic where he died? I don't remember and didn't read it. I know this is the Mando show but I do want the franchise to explore specific aliens and their individual worlds/struggles more often. This might be controversial of me to say but having a little standalone movie or short series or something about some jawas goin on a little adventure, something akin to that one ewok movie I think I'd like to see. Maybe go a bit artsy 80s dark fantasy vibes with it. God this is just because I keep thinking about Jim Henson creatures again isn't it? Jawas weren't even puppets for fucks sake Andy. Yeah.
"Visions" felt like more like cool art demos and creative experiments than stories but if there were canonical little miniseries that just went off on tangents like how each episode of Visions was standalone and untethered I feel that's something the franchise could benefit from.
I suppose I could just as easily say I want brand new little scifi fantasy practical-effects-centric alien universes if I'm being honest. But I feel at this point nobody wants to do that because time and money. I'm only really getting my fix from whatever Disney allows Star Wars to do at this point. Where's the Star Wars knockoff equivalent of Kyle Edward Ball? Who's going to make the grimy 80s puppet and model starship skinamarink? Doesn't even have to be good I'll still at least try to eat that shit up lmfaooo
I do think the perpetual 7 year old in me might finally be experiencing Star Wars burnout though. Which scares me because as I said a while back, my inner child is the only part of me that has a will to live.
I've lost motivation for pretty much everything please let me still stay excited and feel creative through Star Wars aaaaaaaa 😭
Continuing to put off the season finale of Bad Batch because I have reason to believe it's sad and I don't want to be sad skdfsdlfjsd I am baby coward.

(old work) Found Family trope (Modern!AU)
Characters: Zhongli, Xiao, Qiqi
note: this is a really old fic so read at your own risk, I suppose! (4.2022 update)
Summary: HCs on Xiao with a broken family, Qiqi as his adopted little sister, and Professor Zhongli taking care of them
Contains: Mentions of a broken family, but more of a school family HC, super brief mentions of violence
Zhongli (History Prof / Student Council Facilitator)
I can never visualize Zhongli as an actual student unless I have to. He's definitely a professor and all the female and male students love him 😤❣️
He's super good at his job but he probably leaves a lot of the student council work to the students themselves 😀
Would always stock the council room with tea even though he doesn't have mora. People prolly think he's rich but he keeps coupons for grocery discounts (really good at couponing too).
Even though he acts like a grandpa, other students can't help but notice how well he interacts with Childe (the PE teacher? Or Economics professor idk) and Xiao (who's definitely a family friend or neighbor since childhood.
He probably raised Xiao more than Xiao's own parents 😭
Sometimes brings up domestic topics to Xiao in school, causing students to suspect Zhongli might be a young father.
“How does beef stew sound for dinner, Xiao?”
“Don’t talk to me at school.”
“Anyway, Qiqi is in my office playing with her dragon plush so you need not go to the kindergarten later.”
"Alright. Go away."
"Your hair looks a bit messy, let me fix it fo-"
*Xiao running away, embarrassed*
Probably also took care of Qiqi 🥺 (Xiao's adopted little sister?), which might be why he's always broke (single father vibes but he's not actually a father😐).
Imagine Professor Zhongli assigning you as the student that prepares tea before every SC meeting though.
Xiao may seem cold but he definitely appreciates Zhongli's help, at least, until he's old enough to take care of Qiqi on his own (he doesn't want to burden Zhongli, not that the professor ever thinks of them as a burden)
Qiqi (Kindergartener)
Xiao's adorable kindergarten little sister? Probably adopted in an attempt to save their parents' failing marriage, it didn't.
Qiqi waits for Xiao in the kindergarten building since they end earlier than the high schoolers. Sometimes she gets bored and starts to wander off to the high school department to find him.
Other times, Klee drags her along to “Find big brother Albedo!” with her. Students can't help but fawn over how adorable they are.
"Aww what's a kindergartener doing here? Are you lost?"
“No. Big brother.”
“Are you looking for your brother?"
“Big brother.”
“Who?”
“Brother.”
“Does your brother have a name?”
“...”
“...”
She carries around a little notebook where Xiao wrote everything, like his phone number, classroom, Zhongli’s number, including a very threatening message to anyone that might kidnap her.
“Don't read this message, okay? If a bad stranger comes up to you, you give this to them.”
Might somehow end up in Zhongli's office since the students have no idea where to bring her and as an excuse to meet their hot professor. Eventually all the high schoolers know to lead a wandering Qiqi to Zhongli.
Qiqi knows Zhongli as the one that takes care of her and Xiao (mentally associates him as their dad, but she doesn't call him that).
That or she ends up in the infirmary where Baizhu works. Baizhu likes Qiqi and tends to keep her there if Zhongli and Xiao are busy.
My sad!dark!Qiqi hc is that she probably came from an abusive household before getting adopted, causing her to withhold memories due to trauma (either that or her old family was violent enough to hit her head :( resulting in memory issues)
Imagine Xiao carrying Qiqi's bag as they walk home, other hand holding onto her hand. He didn't want an adopted sister because of his messed up parents, but he's a bit happy to have someone by his side.

One of the biggest problems with any half-serious reconciliation between WWX and JC is the fact that WWX's post-canon family, the ones he now loves as much if not more than JC, all have reason to loathe and mistrust the latter (LWJ - look at canon, LSZ and WN being the 'leftovers' (JC's word) he wanted put down and whose entire family he voluntarily led and contributed the most to slaughter. I don't think any of the three would 'ban' a detente but they couldn't possibly want JC (cont)
2/ in THEIR lives and why should they? WWX wouldn;t ask of of them. So how do you think the WWX and JC would manage to connect - just at Koi Tower? JL would probably like that, and it would respect WWX's other loved ones' feelings and history.
Anon, first of all - thank you for sending me my first ask? I am very much not an expert on anything mdzs, and have only written one (arguable) meta on why I like a ship. I haven't published any fanfic (due to my own insecurities, not necessarily because I don't write it, lol) on this topic either.
But, if you really want my little opinion about it, I can give you a couple thoughts! In a list, because that's how my brain functions.
1. Lan Shizui - He is going through a time after canon, but that is completely disconnected to JC! He probably has very few thoughts about the guy post-canon other than the fact that one of his adopted dads really doesn't like the guy.
He basically is rebuilding his identity as a Wen and learning more about them (implied by his post canon road-trip with WN) and is going to be busy reconciling this new identity he may have suspected was missing but didn't know about with his identity as a Lan. Jiang Cheng wasn't the only person at the siege! LQR and LXC were there too!! That's his uncle and (essentially) his grandpa! I think he's going to be way more preoccupied with the deep emotional issues from that than he will from any interacting WWX does with JC
And we also have to question how close is he with wei wuxian post canon in our fanfic. I know we as the fandom and fanfic authors love to make them act as a father and son, completing, along with LWJ, a nuclear family. But LSZ has lived the vast majority of his life without any idea he had a connection to the yiling patriarch! They share a cute moment at the very end, but he's off to find himself with WN. Lan Shizui has been raised by lan wangji and had wei wuxian as an occasional babysitter for 6 months or so when he was four, and he only has barely started remembering that time in his life.
When I look at Shizui I don't think he has the power or desire to stop WWX from reuniting with his brother. And, even if he wanted to, I don't think any reconciliation would make a big enough impact in his life such that JC was 'forced' on him. Even if jiang cheng visited the cloud reccesses, LSZ is gone. And even if they were there at the same time, would they be forced to interact? The way JC is most likely to be 'in [shizui's] li(fe)' is through Jin Ling. Which isn't going to be affected by the relationship between wwx and jc.
2. Wen Ning - Admittedly, I am the least familiar with his character out of the three you cited. But, although his big snapping moment with the golden core reveal, I don't know how specifically afraid of or pissed off at JC he is post canon. I think he mostly doesn't like Jiang Cheng for emotionally hurting WWX more than for anything involving the Wen. WN participated in the war, he knows what JC went through. I think that if he sat down for a minute and contemplated the things he said at the reveal, I think he would know they were a bit unfair. If he is going to be angry at JC for the burial mounds siege, he also has to be angry with LQR, LXC, a lot of unnamed cultivatiors from every other sect, and most minor sect leaders. Along with anger for the previous major sect leaders who are now dead.
And he wasn't even at the siege.
I think that most of wen ning’s anger at JC is on behalf of wwx, who he feels was wronged by JC. So if wwx wanted to reconcile, I highly doubt WN would stand in his way. And again, as with shizui, I don't automatically think that wwx reconciling with jc means that WN is automatically going to be forced to interact with JC.
3. Lan Wangji - Why does lwj hate jc? Seriously. You said 'look at canon', and I agree, LWJ does hate JC in canon. and JC responds to that hate with hate. It’s not hard to nail down - LWJ hates jc because of wwx. because even though he was at wwx's death and knows that JC didn't actually stab his sword into wwx, he firmly believes that the actions JC took drove wwx to his death. Its the same reason he hates himself during the timeskip.
That, and LWJ is used to being the only petty bitch in the room (cloud recesses). He doesn't have the emotional insight to recognize that sometimes yelling at someone can be a sign of how much you care. They have different communication styles, and that mostly comes with lwj judging how jc interacts with wei ying. Though we, as the audience, with wwx's pov and our own insight, see they love each other, lwj cannot. So he thinks JC is just actually being mean for no reason.
But again, like WN, he is weak for wei wuxian. if wei wuxian chooses to have a better relationship with his brother, LWJ might protest but I think he would ultimately relent.
This will mean he might have to spend actual time with JC, but ... he's chief cultivator. He's GOING to have to anyway. Not to mention, it seems like he did anyway, judging by their junior night hunt supervision.
I don't think wei wuxian would mind their continued animosity. In fact, in certain scenarios, like their night hunt chaperone death glare match, I bet he'd find it kinda funny.
4. You seem to taking specific umbrage with JC calling the wen remnant 'leftovers', and believe that he specifically wants wen ning and wen yuan to die. You probably took this specific word from chapter 73 of the exiled rebels translation of mdzs. If you look a bit closer, you can also notice that JC's next line of dialogue "I doubt you'll even return all of them". He is making this argument because he wants the brother he loves to be safe and somewhere JC can protect him. He is, throughout this entire scene, pointing out that this is a political disaster and how this hurts both his brother and the jiang. and even then, he does NOT expect all of the wen clan to be returned. He is expecting Wei Wuxian to smuggle a few (or even a lot!) of them away - perhaps people like granny and any children?
Also, wen ning is a fierce corpse who just killed some dudes. Although he did so justifiably, he is still the sort of demon that cultivators kill all the time, and wwx hasn't shown that its even possible to bring back his consciousness. We know he will, but that’s a ridiculous idea to the average cultivator. JC doesn't think he's telling WWX to kill a person at this point but a zombie, which they as cultivators kill all the time.
5. But, in the end, should LSZ, LWJ, and WN all hate JC's guts and refuse to even look at his fucking face post canon - they DO NOT control wei wuxian. WWX has met someone and listened to what they wanted him to so when he wanted the opposite perhaps three times in his entire life. If there is a reason that he thinks he should go talk to his brother, if there is a reason he thinks he should go to lotus pier, if there’s a reason he thinks his brother doesn't hate him anymore and wants to have WWX in his life, WWX is GOING to GO. That’s just his nature.
(the reasons are obviously the territory of fanfic)
WWX respecting 'other loved ones' feelings and history' does not mean denying himself of an equally important relationship in his life. Maybe it means not taking them when he goes to visit JC (and yes, I mean at lotus pier). Maybe it means not talking about Jiang Cheng to them. But it doesn't mean abandoning any hope of ever having a positive relationship with his brother again.
Reconciliation is not about them. Its not about how much hurt JC arguably caused other people surrounding WWX. Its about these two brothers reconnecting with the last person from their family living.

Hetalia Headcannons: Origins
(Because I’ve seen some truly shitty takes on this theme and I just want to try my hand at it.)
- Nations in Hetalia are basically animistic deities, who are largely too stupid to realize they have god-like powers. Kidding, but they really don’t see themselves as gods, and definitely don’t require to be treated as such - no, not even USA.
- The family tree of the Romance family is truly a mess to behold. It is known that Grandpa Rome and lady named Longobardia had a child named Italia, and that she was the mother of Lovino and Romano. He also took as a subject in his house (a la Romano under Austria) lady named Iberia, but her son Asturias probably wasn’t his, although he definitely raised the child. Asturias then had a long and sordid relationship with Al-Andalus, which produced Spain and Portugal. France was a child of Frankia of the Germanic family, but he was basically adopted by aging Rome, and it’s likely he was his father. Romania is a bastard child of Rome and... Well, noone knows for sure. Romania claims his mother was Dacia, but she died long before his birth, so many people suspect some lady from the Slavic family, or another family entirely. Switzerland probably fits into this and Germanic family in some way, shape or form, but noone is sure how. Belgium is a bastard child of France and sister of Netherlands that was raised by Austria, and all in all is MUCH more well-adjusted than that description would imply.
- Germanic family is even more of a mess due to their penchant for chimerism - a capability of related nations to fuse together into one being. They are all descendants of Germania, who had many children and even more grandchildren. The rest of the family tree is super murky; Netherlands, Nordic nations and probably England are distant cousins of Prussia, Germany and Austria. Germany and Prussia are brothers (in fact, Germany is a fusion of all of Prussia’s brothers), while Austria is a cousin of theirs. Again, Switzerland is probably related to them somehow, but it’s super unclear. What we do know is that he and Austria lived together for a while, but after a raging argument, Switzerland moved out and declared independence. Liechtenstein is Austria’s long lost sister.
- Slavic nation have a much clearer family tree. Mother Venedia had three sons, West, East and South Slavia, who are in turn fathers of all the current Slavic nations. West had two children, Great Moravia and Poland. There is some mess with Slovakia and Bohemia being originally one child, that is Great Moravia, but that one split in two after Hungary invaded - Bohemia fled westward, while Hungary found its twin Slovakia in the stuff she stole from Moravia. South had many children, who were basically just a mess of fusing, splitting and begetting children; this part of the tree doesn’t figure into the story that much anyway, but it’s interesting to note that Croatia and Slovenia have a history of living with both Hungary and Austria. East Slavia’s family is a disfunctional mess even by the standards of the nations. Slavia’s daughter Rus had three children, Belarus, Russia and Ukraine. Rus died in a war with Mongolia, leaving his children orphans. Ukraine was adopted by Poland, but as you can imagine, he wasn’t the most responsible of fathers, so she practically raised herself. Belarus grew up with the Baltics, but she always felt like she doesn’t belong, especially after Lithuania married Poland, for whom Belarus had nothing but disdain. You can imagine she was eager to join Russia after the partition of Poland. Russia lived as a servant in Mongolia’s house, untill he rose up and gained his father’s land back. Baltics are cousins of the Slavs, though there is some indication Estonia is just adopted.
- Hungary, as far as we know, isn’t related to anyone, though there are some speculations about her being a daughter of some “original” Hungary and West Slavia. For her part, Hungary denies being related to the Slavs in any way, though she undoubtedly learned some of their mannerisms.
- England is... Complicated. It lives on the estates of the Celtic family, and was undoubtedly adopted by them, but his origins are more obscure, Germanic and/or Nordic. He also had a huge crush on France when he was a kid, spending a lot of time with, which is why he has some Romance manners despite not being actually related to that family.

However lovingly I look back at my Croatian grandpa who taught me Serbian curse words at the dinner table, I can’t not see the racism in hindsight. His brother told my mom that we came from a line of Gypsies. Like that terminology was something to be proud of around populist war time. Hitler would have killed us too if he didn’t subjugate us first. They were both in the army and navy respectively and fought in World War II. He married a nice German girl and the families on both sides stayed so close that my mom’s cousin ended up marrying my dad’s sister who had twins. They introduced my dad and my mom and there’s this whole recreated neat family history that I really don’t feel much a part of after my parents divorced strangely. Probably a snide way to keep the heritage close but the money closer. That’s the military industrial complex for you. My dad was a sergeant in the army. That explains why the military never left me alone even after signing my conscientious objector status when I turned eighteen. You are either following in your father’s. footsteps or become a potential enemy of the state. Especially if you score well in language in military placement tests. Just ask the pentagon. America has always been cheap with it’s people that way with regards to Human Resources. You anti war people should call it out more. I was an only child anyway. It always offends me when people call me “brother” outside the gendered implications. How would I know what it’s like to “lean on a brother” when they were never there? All men do is lie anyway. I do like the concept of sister states and cities. Seoul was that for me for a time. I don’t know that I’ll ever go back there. The first time I stepped off a plane some white guy accosted me and asked “are you in the military son?” That’s probably why they let me visit it so much. I have a cousin on my dad’s side who lives in China by way of Hong Kong. I visited her and found out she was adopted the hard way when I said at dinner that it was “nice to connect with blood relatives so far away.” My dad never told me. I tried to friend her on LinkedIn awhile back but got ignored. As far as what races I’m made up of? Ask Jugoslavia that question? And Romania? Sweden? Turkey? India? Germany? Bohemia? America? Dominaría? All I know is my genes fit me either way. Tight in the ass. Loose fitting in the crotch. And less chafing now that my Balkans are shaved I’m marking my race down on the census as slim shady. Thanks for your under-stan-ding. 🇺🇸

Godzilla and gojirin, fluff, 17
Put it in the bag nice and slowly chump
Tumblr media
TW: Mpreg. Teen Parents. Gijinka. Blah blah blah.
“I’m here for you.”
Goji held the phone close to his ear as he resisted the urge to start crying again. When Gojirin had said she would be moving away, the young couple had decided to lose their virginity to each other and keep in contact by any means necessary.
So when Goji found out he was pregnant, he made sure to call the girl who helped make it happen.
“I’m sorry,” Goji said. “I-”
“Don’t apologize,” Gojirin said. “It’s alright. Like I said I’ll be here. It’s just-”
“We’ll have to tell our parents.”
Both young teens held their phones in silence. The mere fact that they would have to confess to their parents that they had committed such an act was hard to stomach (literally). Not to mention the fact that Gojira was only just starting to loosen up and trust Goji more only for him to go and pull this stunt.
“I….I don’t know if I can,” Goji whimpers. He slides against the wall and curls in on himself. He can’t imagine looking his father in the eyes and telling him such massive news. They were barely making ends meet with the two of them, but now they’d have to worry about another mouth. Or even worse, his father would make him give the child up for adoption. “Gojirin I can’t-”
“I’ll tell my parents first,” She sighs as she looks at the picture of Goji and her from the photo booth at the arcade. The same arcade they snuck behind that day to do what led to this moment. She loved Goji and she knew he loved her. She had convinced her parents to let them stay in contact because they had faith that it wouldn’t lead to anything more than just a simple childhood romance. And look at them now. “And then they’ll probably call your dad and we’ll...figure something out.”
There’s a pause.
“I love you,” Goji finally says. “Again, I’m sorry-”
“Goji, this is a two-person act. We both had a part to play. 50/50,” She laughs lightly. “Maybe our parents should’ve let us take those sex-ed lessons after all.”
They both laugh.
_____________________________________________________________
“Can you feel him moving?” Goji asked as Gojirin placed her hand on his stomach. They were sitting on the floor in Gojirin’s mother’s living room. She was in the kitchen making some soup for Goji to eat while he stayed for the night.
Of course, when the two teens had to tell their parents there was the expected reaction. Gojira passed out after Goji told him. He even thought it was a cruel prank before Goji went fishing for the positive test in the trashcan.
After many long weeks of talking, groundings, and otherwise, it was decided that Gojirin and her mother would move back to Japan so that Gojirin would be involved with the growth of her child. Not that either teen truly complained. They were more than happy to get to spend time together.
Granted, it was expected that in the next three or so years the two would be wed, but again it wasn’t an issue. Thankfully their child was conceived out of true love.
“A little,” She says as she draws circles on his stomach. “Kinda crazy, you know?”
“What is?” Goji asks.
“You know,” Gojirin chuckled. “How me and you made another human being. Like man, we made a life together and it’s just mindblowing.”
Goji laughs with her before grabbing her hand and looking at it.
“Do you think he’ll come out brown like you?” He shyly says. “I...would like it if he does, you know? You have a very pretty complexion and I’d hope he gets to reflect that.”
“It doesn’t matter to me either way,” Gojirin says just as her mother starts to set up the small table for them. “As long as he’s a healthy baby that’s what matters most to me.”
“I see,” He nods. “Though I’m a bit scared. I can’t decide whether or not to give birth the normal way or to get cut open. And frankly, both options scare me.”
“Well, I’ll be there either way,” She lightly kisses his cheek. “From your first labor pain to the moment our son is out, I’ll be right by your side.”
“And so will we,” Gojirin’s mother pipes in. “Ugh, I still can’t believe you made me a grandma already, child.”
“Hehe, sorry mama,” The young teen chuckles before helping arrange the table. Goji attempts to stand up but Gojirin’s mother was quick to give him a look. He shrank down and waited for them to finish. The night was filled with laughter. Gojirin’s mother giving the young man advice as to how to handle certain sicknesses and pains.
She prays over the three as well. She hopes that misfortune does not fall upon them. Goji genuinely made Gojirin happy. She remembered the days her daughter would come home brighter after only an hour of walking with him. They complimented each other in a way that reminded her of the love between her husband and her.
Though fear did linger. She learned that Goji’s mother died in childbirth, and Gojira had made a passing remark that his family had a history of producing large babies. She hopes that the young man will be able to grow with his son and her daughter.
_____________________________________________________________
“Oh my,” Biollante says as she looks down at the infant.
The newborn showed off his parents’ genes perfectly. With time the family was certain he would develop that nose Goji has. Lots of curly brown hair on top of his head that laid on beautiful brown skin. To be honest, he wasn’t the prettiest looking baby, but honestly what baby comes out completely perfect?
“Goji please sit down,” Gojira urged as his son gently placed down the baby carrier. Obviously, after several hours of intense labor, the young boy’s body was still recovering even five days later. Gojira was thankful his boy was strong and survived the ordeal.
Gojirin came to him and guided him towards the mat on the floor for him to lay down. They kissed briefly before he eased himself down. Gojira began to attend to his grandson.
Minilla. That’s the name they decided to give him.
“How you feel Uncle?” Biollante asked as Gojira picked up the infant and cradled him. “You know, you’re already a grandpa.”
“Ah it’s weird,” He admits. “But it’ll grow on me.”
Gojirin lays beside her boyfriend, whispering sweet nothings to him as she grabs his hands and caresses them. It was very clear the two were still deeply in love.
But on cue, the newborn awoke with a fury. An ear-piercing screech rang in the air. He was hungry, again, and all Goji could do was groan.
“We don’t have formula yet, huh?” Gojirin asked as she helped Goji sit up. The family shook their head just as Gojira gently handed his grandson off to his son. The young man yawned as he unbuttoned his shirt. Instantly, once latched on the newborn ceased his uproar and suckled peacefully.
“I just want to sleep,” Goji starts sniffling.
“Haha, should’ve thought about that before you two got busy,” Biollante teased just as her uncle hit her upside the head. But as Gojirin rubbed his back, Goji knows that he doesn’t regret a thing. And neither does she. She promised to always be there for him.
And she always will.

Never Gonna Be Alone - Chapter 36
Title: Empty
Warnings: profanity, some angst

Tumblr media
He watches her as she stands in front of the Christmas tree; countless strings of light bathing pale, smooth skin in a multicoloured glow. She’s at her most beautiful during moments like this; enjoying silence and the relief and relaxation that comes with a warm and comfy house, clad in an oversized plaid nightshirt and her hair slightly damp from a much needed and deserved soak in the tub. She’s always been naturally beautiful; appearing much younger than her actual age and make up only taking away from her features instead of accenting or showcasing them. She’d been perfectly at home in Australia right from the start and had easily adapted to -and adopted- the casual ‘beach’ vibe; constantly bare foot and clad in tanks and shorts with wind swept hair and sun kissed cheeks and the hint of salt lingering on her skin.
While she’d been breathtaking from the very moment he’d laid eyes on her, she’s only become even more so over the years; his love for her growing with each passing day and bringing with it a new found wonderment for every inch of her. Body thicker now; cheeks rounder, breasts fuller, hips wider and curves in all the right places. It’s an appreciation made stronger by not only a strong and seemingly unbreakable bond, but a friendship as well; his truest and most loyal confidant and the keeper of his deepest and darkest secrets and his biggest and most fervent supporter. And the mother of his children. Willingly giving him the large brood that he so desperately had graved; selflessly sacrificing her own body and allowing it to become a safe haven for all the incredible little human beings that would grow and thrive inside of her. Watching someone grow bigger with your child and then become a mother brings on a whole new level of adoration and respect; putting them even higher on the pedestal that you long ago constructed for them.
Her body sways from side to side; slowly and rhythmically in an attempt to keep Tabby quiet and content. The baby had spent the better part of an hour extremely unsettled; fussy and irritable as she continued to fight sleep without the comfort of either parent. They’d offered to keep both children and Ovi and Riya had jumped at the chance; planning on coffee and dessert at an all night cafe close to their home in Queens. With two little ones and his hectic and overwhelming schedule at the hospital, it makes it nearly impossible for them to get any alone time together; much needed considering the several months of non stop wedding planning and the stress and headaches that had accompanied it. Ovi would return for his daughters -and for breakfast with the family- in the morning; Tabby accompanying him and Tanner to the American Museum of Natural History while Micki got to enjoy time with grandpa and lunch and a shopping spree at the American Doll store.
The time together as a family is rare; thousands of miles and a handful of different time zones separating them. Moving to New York City simply out of the question; neither Tyler or any of the kids fully able to get comfortable and happy in a much bigger and chaotic place. Australia is where their hearts are; their dream home tucked away at the end of a gravel street and accompanied by acres of both forest and beach. It’s quiet and it’s relatively secluded; giving him the privacy that he craves and the sense of the security that he needs in regards to his family. And while Esme had spent years living in the Big Apple and had loved her time there and once dreamed endlessly about going back and finding an area to settle down in, those feelings have long dissipated. Content with simply visiting a handful of times throughout the year; getting to experience the different seasons and enjoying the magic of a white Christmas and loving the convenience of being somewhere so vast and populated.
He had mentioned it a time or two; perhaps moving back to the States and calling the brownstone their permanent residence while using their home in Cooktown as their ‘getaway’ spot. But she’d vehemently argued against it; not keen on the idea of permanently living in her country of origin. Her happiness and her own sense of peace long ago settled Down Under; falling in love with the people and experiencing genuine awe and wonderment with every stunning sunset and brilliant sunrise. It’s where her heart is. Where it always HAS been. She left it behind years ago when they’d been forced to flee; her happiness lingering in that little two bedroom apartment that they’d called home. It hadn’t been much; the rooms shockingly small and filled with second hand furniture. But it’s where their love for each other had been fully discovered; getting to know each other -outside of sex- while he recovered from the wounds suffered in Dhaka and she’d been growing and nurturing their child inside of her.
Most of all, he’d enjoyed having her -the love of his life- in his homeland; marvelling at how she so effortlessly blended in, proud of how not only the locals so willingly and easily accepting and falling in love with her, but how she handled being thousands of miles away from her own home. Although he was -and still is- notoriously private and withdrawn, she made acquaintances so easily; Aussies quickly drawn to that bubbly personality and that cheerful and positive outlook on life despite everything she’d been through. She’d taken the place by storm; falling in love with her new life and thriving in the environment and getting up every day ready to tackle the mountain of change just dropped into her lap. Her dreams still haunted by what had taken place in Bangladesh, but her heart still so open and accepting; taking every opportunity to explore everything around her and quickly returning to loving life and everything in it. And even on the hardest of days, she’d never fail to make him smile. The way she’d giggle when learning all the slang words or how her nose would crinkle in disgust and she’d give a long, drawn out ‘ewwww’ whenever he attempted to turn her into a Vegemite lover. The fascination in her eyes whenever they’d hit up a zoo or a wildlife reserve and she’d get to come face to face with some of Australia’s most famous of creatures; crying when she got to hold an orphaned koala and then staring in absolute amazement when a kangaroo Joey hopped over and ate goodies straight out of her hand. Even at the beach she was like a little kid on Christmas morning; not quite enjoying the feeling of the sand between her toes, but marvelling at the expanse of the ocean and the way the sunlight sparkled on the water.
Even now she remains in awe of the life she’d been given; he still sees that disbelief that captures her face during a particularly stunning sunset. Mesmerized -and even moved to tears- by the colours; vivid shades of purple, pink and orange. Always expressing how grateful she is. In awe that she’d been given such an amazing opportunity; an incredible life in a beautiful place with someone that loves and worships her and children that absolutely adore her.
He doesn’t speak as he joins her; placing both hands on her shoulders and pressing a kiss to the back of her head. He savours the moment. Eyes closed and his palms running up and down her arms; face buried in her hair as he deeply inhales the familiar yet still alluring scent that clings to those dark, damp tresses. And with a peck to the cheek he steps alongside of her; hand moving to her shoulder as he tucks her tightly into her side.
“She okay?”
Esme nods, then smiles down at the little one resting along her arm. Still fighting sleep but quiet and content; snuggled tightly into her grandmother’s chest and wrapped tightly in Addie’s well loved blanket. “She is now. You just had a bit of a hard time, didn’t you Tabby. You were just missing momma.”
He moves his hand down and settles it on her hip. Reaching across her with the other, a callused palm rests gently on the top of the baby’s head; his thumb smoothly and repeatedly brushing against her brow. Tabby gives a content sigh and long yawn in response; enormous brown eyes -constantly fluttering as they continue their valiant battle to stay open- staring up at him.
Esme tugs the faded and tattered blanket upwards, smoothing it around Tabby's tiny body.
“Everyone asleep?”
“The oldest are still awake. I told them to keep it down. So they wouldn’t wake the littles up. I might have threatened them a couple times; told them I’d take their tablets away AND throw them...the kids...not the iPads...out into the snow.”
“Might work for a little bit. I think they’re used to you by now ; they know daddy is full of empty threats.”
“Guess it will really shock the shit out of them when I finally do act on it and out they go.”
“I’ll see it when I believe it. I’ll probably be the one that snaps first and DOES offer them as sacrifices to the sharks.”
“That threat held in there longer than I thought it would. We still have three that fall for it.”
“Let’s hope it continues for a little while more. She’s perfect, isn’t she?” Esme muses, beaming down at the baby and then up at him. “Absolutely perfect.”
“She is,” he agrees, and places a lingering kiss to his wife’s temple.
“And so beautiful,” she looks down at their granddaughter once more. “Just like her mommy.”
“And like her grandma.”
She gives a quiet laugh and looks up at him. It’s always there; all that love and adoration and pride that she possesses for him. It never fails to make his breath catch; overwhelmed by the amount of blind faith and trust that she holds for him. “As much as I appreciate you feeding my ego, that compliment would only work if we were biologically related.”
“Doesn’t matter, babe. You’re beautiful. And I love you. So fucking much.”
“Christmas time always gets you right in the feels, doesn’t it,” she teases, and then moves to stand in front of him; body pressed tightly into his and the back of her head resting against his chest.
“Not just Christmas lately. A lot of things, it seems.”
“I like it. When you’re sweet and sappy.” She tilts her head back to look up at him, a soft smile curving her lips. “And adorable.”
“You know, I SHOULD divorce you for that. Of all the insults you’ve hurled at me…”
“I swear you’d rather me call you a dick head or a shit for brains. Accept it, you’re adorable. You will never, EVER, change my mind. And divorce me? You’d never. You’d miss me way too much. You’d miss me and all my bullshit.”
“I actually would. Would you miss mine? All my crap?”
“I don’t know about that. You CAN be really tiring.”
He frowns.
“I’m kidding. I would take every single ounce of your bullshit over not having you around. You’re relatively tame, considering. Everything you've been through? All the shit handed to you since you were a kid? You could be A LOT worse.”
“That’s a compliment, yeah? I THINK that’s a compliment.”
“It definitely is. When I think about what you've been through? From the time you were little until now? It’s remarkable. That you’re as normal and sane as you are.”
Smirking, he leans down to press a kiss to the tip of her nose. “Did you really put me and normal and sane in the same sentence?”
“Considering what your father did to you, being in the army and out there in war zones, AND being a mercenary? Babe, you’re lucky to be how you are. You realize that, right? That you could be SO much worse. You could have totally gone in another direction; when it comes to your personal life. You could have easily turned out violent and aggressive and a complete prick. You know how many times I saw that? You know how many mercenaries I came in contact that were horrible, horrible people? Ninety nine percent of them. You? You were...ARE...a total study in contradiction.”
“I guess I never thought about it that way. How much worse things could be. I could be.”
“You could have turned out to be the worst case scenario. You could have been one those that actually LOVED killing other people. Just thrived and got off on the violence and the bloodshed. You could have turned out to be like Gaspar.”
“That’s a little...unsettling.”
“Right? He was nuts. A total sociopath. Look how quick he was to backstab you! Someone he’d known for years! Someone who’d saved his life! He was ready to kill you. To get to me and Ovi. All because you WEREN’T like him. And don’t even get me started on that whole killing doves thing. DOVES. The bird of peace! What the hell kind of person kills THEM?”
“A pretty messed up one.”
“My point exactly. He WAS messed up. Huge. And you could have so easily gone that way. Especially hanging around him. Having him for a friend? That could have been bad news.”
“First off, he wasn’t really what I’d call a friend. It's not like I saw him outside of work. I never visited him, he never visited me, we never talked on the phone or texted or anything like that. Any interaction I had with him was done on the job. And when I WAS around him? I was drunk. That’s what we had in common. Getting wasted.”
“The way he acted and the way he talked, you would have thought you’d been friends since the two of you were in diapers. I still can’t believe he screwed you like he did. You SAVED his ass. And that’s how repays you? Like what the hell?”
“Babe, it’s a long time ago. And yeah, it sucks. It was a bitch move on his part. But I was never, EVER, going to go along with what he wanted.”
“I only asked that once. Five years ago. If you even considered it for a second. I never meant to suggest you were that person Tyler. And I still feel like shit for that. I never meant to hurt you. And I know what I said did. And I’m still sorry I ever said it.”
“Trust me, there’s a long list of things I’m sorry for. Things that I kick myself in the ass for every day. I regret EVER taking you and the kid there.”
“You were just doing what you thought was best. We didn’t really have options, did we. There was really nowhere else for us to go. No way you could have known what he was going to do. It’s not your fault, Tyler. The way things ended up. I’ve never blamed you for any of it.”
“I know.” Curling his arm around her waist, he drops a kiss on the top of her head. “Let’s stop this where it is, yeah? There’s no need to talk about it. It was thirteen years ago almost. And I know you’re still pissed and you’re having a hard time getting over some of the stuff that happened. I get it. There’s still shit that bothers me. But can we at least let it lie for now? Until we get home? And bring this all up at therapy? That’s the place it needs to be brought up, don’t you think?”
“You’re right. This is definitely not the place and certainly not the time. Not when I’ve got this little sweetie with me.” She smiles down at the baby in her arms; body commencing its slow and smooth swaying. And she places a hand on Tabby’s stomach; all five fingers immediately curling around one of hers. “He did good, huh? Ovi?”
Tightening his hold on her, he rests his chin on the top of her head. “He did real good. He’s come a long way that’s for sure.”
“He really has. He’s a man now. With his own family. He’s going to be a DOCTOR. Sometimes it seems like just yesterday; trying to keep him calm in that factory in Dhaka. Now he’s living in Queens and he’s got a soon to be wife and two beautiful little girls. How did that happen? How did he grow up so fast? It’s like I blinked and he went from boy to man.”
“It’s been almost thirteen years, Me. As hard as that is to believe. And a lot’s happened in that thirteen years.”
“You’re not kidding me. If someone had told me, when I walked out of your place, that you were going to go from being my fake husband to my real one? I would have told them they were nuts. That was so not on my radar; getting into a serious relationship, never mind MARRYING someone.”
He nuzzles the tip of his nose against her ear, then presses a kiss to the lobe. “I knew it. You really did just want me for my body. Sex. That’s all I was to you. A piece of ass.”
“Maybe at first,” she admits, and then giggles when he playfully nips at the side of her neck. “But somewhere between the third and sixth orgasm, I realized that hey, maybe there IS something to be had out of all this.”
“So basically you came to that on the first day. Because if I do remember correctly, we didn’t just get down to business once. And you were on your fifth orgasm by the second round, so…”
“I realized very quickly that there was something different about you. Something that you didn’t let many people see. You weren’t like anyone I’d ever met on the job. Especially other mercenaries. You were special, Tyler Rake. I recognized that pretty early on.”
“Man, your standards really WERE low.”
“My standards happened to be very high, thank you very much. Which is why I went on my eighteen month sexual sabbatical after Mark. So what does that tell you? You had to do something awesome to get me to break. And you broke me right quick, let me tell you. I actually thought maybe you would break me a couple times, actually. Physically speaking.”
“You shocked me. That someone so tiny could take so much. From a guy so much bigger. You weren’t scared? Not once? Not even when I grabbed you by the neck?”
“Nope. I’ve never had a reason to be scared of you. Not even back then. I saw it in your eyes; you weren’t trying to hurt me. You were trying to protect yourself. You didn’t want me getting too close. And you didn’t want to feel anything. YOU were the one that was scared..”
“I was,” he admits. “It scared the hell out of me. That I WAS feeling things for you. Especially that quick. I never thought it was possible. To be that into someone so fast. Always thought was bullshit when I heard people talk about it. Then I met you. All five foot nothing and a buck twenty soaking wet. And boy did you turn my world upside down.”
She smiles and turns her face into his, tip of her nose pressed into the side of his. “In all the best ways though, right?”
“Nothing but the best, Me. Smartest thing I ever did? Agree to that job.”
“I told Ovi the same thing tonight. That it was the smartest decision I’ve ever made. I mean, it was crazy and it was weird and it was twisted, but it led me somewhere...and to SOMEONE...so beautiful and amazing. I don’t regret a single second, Tyler. Or any of the decisions I made. It was the best thing I ever did. YOU’RE the best thing I ever did.”
A grin tugs at the corners of his mouth. “Are we talking just sexually or…?”
She laughs. “You totally blew it out of the water. Sexually speaking. And you continue to you ALL the time. But I mean in EVERY way. You’re everything I could have ever asked for. In a best friend, a partner, a husband, a baby daddy. You just came into my life and everything changed. I changed. It’s all been worth it. Even the bad times.”
“You know how you always say I have a habit of making you cry at the holidays? You're giving me a run for my money.”
“Even men deserve to hear all that mushy stuff. No matter how big and strong and how bad ass they are. And you, husband, re very big and strong and bad ass. And I love every damn inch of you.”
“Baby, I love you.” Tears sparkle in his eyes as he presses a kiss to the bridge of his nose. “And thank you; I DID need to hear all that.”
“I should tell you more often. And I would. If I wasn’t afraid your head would get too big to fit through the door.”
“Always following up the corny shit with some shitty, smart ass comment. That’s my girl,” He slides his hand under the bottom of his shirt and traces a fingertip around her navel; chuckling when she shivers against him and shoves his hand away.
For several minutes they stand in silence; his arm once more wrapped tightly around her waist and her head resting back against his chest. Both watching the child being rocked in her arms, his hand seemingly even larger and more powerful as it rests upon the baby’s coal black hair; thumb continuing to brush across her forehead.
“Look at the way she watches you.” Esme says. “Look how big her eyes are. How they’re sparkling. What is what with you and babies? They always love you. Our babies could NEVER get enough of you.”
“I don’t know. Voice, maybe?”
“Could be. When you’re not pissed off about something and you’re totally relaxed and comfortable, it’s so deep and so soothing. Soft, even. I used to think about that all the time in Dhaka; how your voice would seem so different when we were in bed together and having those late night chats. YOU’D seem different, actually. You were so calm and you completely let your guard down and you were so...I don’t know...different. You weren’t the guy you were when we were out on the street. Not that there was anything wrong with THAT guy. That guy was insanely sexy and man, could rail me like no other. Just the other guy? The calmer one? He really set the bar high.”
“And now?”
“You’re still him. You’re still Tyler. You still have all the different sides and I still love them. I love them more and more every day.”
“How much have you had to drink tonight? Because I know you can be sappy, but you’re even sappier than usual.”
“I barely had any. I don’t even have the slightest buzz going on. I’m just feeling sentimental, I guess. Seeing how good Ovi is with Riya and the girls and finally coming to terms with him being a daddy and someone’s soon to be husband. It’s just brought up a lot of things. A lot of GOOD things. When it comes to us.”
“Like?”
“Just how we were when we first started out. When we first got married and I was having Millie and we’re living in that little apartment. You were still recovering and still had quite the road ahead of you, but just got your shit together and stood up. You were so good, Tyler. At everything. No matter how much pain you were in or how much you were struggling mentally to get over things. You just shelved your shit so you could be there for me. And our baby.”
“All that mattered to me was you. And our daughter. That’s it.”
“And you showed it. Time and time again. Best damn lamaze partner and labour coach EVER.”
“Even if I almost DID faint?”
“Even then. You were awesome. You were such a good daddy to be. You were so in awe of the whole thing. The way you’d always touch my belly and you’d read surfing magazines to her and you’d go out at three in the morning to get me fast food or ice cream. You never even complained. Well, maybe when you were in the car you did.”
“Honestly? No. I was just so fucking happy to be getting the chance to have another kid that I was enjoying every second. I wasn’t going to take anything for granted. Even middle of the night Maccas runs.”
“I mean it, you know. When I say I couldn’t have asked for a better father for my children. You’ve been incredible. Right from the start. I lucked out, that’s for sure.”
“I don’t know, Me. I think I got you beat in that department. Luck.”
“How about we both agree that we’re lucky? That we BOTH bring some amazing things to the table.”
“I don’t know…”
“We BOTH lucked out. Big time. We definitely both upgraded. From our first marriages.”
“We can definitely agree on that. I certainly made the right decision. When I got up the balls to ask you to marry me. Even if it was in the bathroom.”
“It was perfect. For us.”
“You know what else is perfect? Seeing you with her. Our granddaughter. Makes me think of all the times with our babies. Watching you with them. Thinking how beautiful it was. Being just so in awe of you. Is it wrong I kind of miss it? You with a baby? Even you pregnant?”
“No,” she shakes her head. “Not wrong at all. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t miss it. I mean, I always had issues, but I actually liked being pregnant. I liked watching my body change; my hair thickening and darkening and my boobs and my butt getting bigger.”
He grins and pecks her ear. “That last part was DEFINITELY my favourite.”
“And feeling them move inside of me. I didn’t matter how many times I went through it; it was always so amazing and beautiful to feel them. And you’d always get that dorky smile. That one that’s reserved solely for expectant dads. The one that says ‘hey, look what I did!’. You know, I should have had a t-shirt made for you. With those words on it. And an arrow pointing at my belly.”
“I would have worn it, too. Like I wear that Super Sperm every now and then.”
“I can NOT believe you do that,” she laughs. “It was meant as a joke. Not for you to wear it and be proud of it!”
“But I am proud of it. Of my accomplishment. I knocked you up FIVE times. A total of SEVEN babies. That’s some fucking skill, Me.”
“I don’t know if your boys are skilled or just plain lucky, but I’ll let you have it. Your pride in your handiwork. Congratulations, honey. You came inside of me. Quite the feat.”
“Listen smart ass,” he playfully pinches the sensitive area below her right rib cage. “Can’t you just let me have this? Can’t I have my moment? Those kids are the best thing I’ve ever done. Other than their mum, of course. She’s my favourite thing I’ve ever done.”
“You never miss the opportunity to be dirty do you. I do miss it, you know. Being pregnant, having a baby in the house. It’s kind of bittersweet; knowing it won’t happen again. I spent the better part of seven years pregnant. Starting with Millie and ending with the twins. We had seven kids in a VERY short period of time. It’s kinda hard to get used to; not having an infant or two around.”
“I mean, it COULD happen. We could both get things reversed and just hope for the best.”
“I don’t know if I can do it. If my body can even handle that. I think I’m babied out. As sad as that makes me to admit.”
“We could get a surrogate.”
“That’s a no from me. I know it’s an amazing thing and I admire the women who do it. I really do. But I do NOT like the idea of you having a baby with another woman.”
“You realize I don’t actually get to fuck them, right? I don’t get to actually enjoy the baby making process?”
“Of course I realize that. I just don’t like that idea. I’m not comfortable with it. Your sperm in someone else. Even if it WAS put there by a turkey baster.”
“A turkey baster?” He chuckles. “Is that seriously how it’s done? I do my thing into a cup and…?”
“I don’t know. Something like that I guess. I just can’t deal with that. The thought of your stuff inside of some other woman. Sounds stupid, right? Tell me it’s stupid. That I’m being totally irrational.”
“Actually, I get it. I understand where you’re coming from. If I couldn’t pitch in, I wouldn’t want some guy’s sperm being put into you.”
“Oh it wouldn’t just be put in me. I’d totally sleep with him.”
Tyler scowls. “Excuse me?”
“I’m kidding! You know I’m kidding! Baby, there is no other guy in this world I want to sleep with. You’re the only one I want to do those things with. Why turn around and settle for less when I already have the best? When I’m already married to someone that’s walking sex. A God among men. Only you, Tae. You’re the only one I want to sleep with.”
“Yeah?” He presses a series of kisses along the outer edge of her hair, followed by the length of her jaw. “You want to sleep with me tonight?”
She grins, then sighs when his teeth nip at the side of her throat. “I want to do A LOT of things with you tonight.”
“Oh really? Well in that case…” he places a kiss on her temple, lips lingering as his hand once more slips up the front of her shirt; fingertips grazing along the smooth skin just above the waistband of her pyjama pants. “...maybe we should close the house up for the night and go upstairs.”
“I think that’s a very good idea. Tell you what, I’ll lock everything up and set the alarms. You take your granddaughter and put her to bed. I already set the playpen up for her. In the den.”
“You already have her. Why don’t you do it?”
“Because you have a knack of getting babies off to sleep. You’re a natural. And besides, you doing the whole big, strong man with a baby thing? It totally turns me on.”
“Why didn’t you just say that in the first place?” He gently and carefully removes the baby from her arms. Holding Tabby tightly to his chest; a forearm under her bum and a hand on the back of her head.
“Very nice,” Esme enthuses. “Is it wrong that I’m wet for you already?”
He leans in to kiss her. “You’re dirty.”
She lays a hand on the side of his face, and kisses him eagerly in return, pausing when she giggles into his mouth. “You have that effect on me.”
******
“Adoption.”
His voice rumbles deep in his chest; reverberating against her back and tearing her away from the edge of sleep. Their love making had been a welcome change from the nights past. A bruising and punishing pace exchanged for something much slower and attentive; slow, deep thrusts that kept her whimpering in delight and her nails clawing at his back shoulders. Long and languid kisses; little pecks interspersed with the movement of closed mouth upon closed and followed by greedy yet explorative tongues. The degrading names and the filthy words replaced by whispered praises and declarations of love; her cheek cradled in the palm of his hand as he gazed down at her with so much admiration and adoration that it both brought tears to her eyes and took her breath away.
She’d been enjoying the sensation of his naked and sweat slicked body pressed against hers. Her back against the muscled and solid expanse of his chest and one of his thighs wedged between both of hers; a forearm stretched across her pillow and her head resting in the crook of his elbow. A large, strong hand hovering near her stomach; calloused fingertips tracing slow and intricate patterns on the skin. Her body completely sated and so relaxed and secure in his arms that sleep had come on quickly; encouraged by the soft breath that tickled the back of her neck and fluttered her hair.
“It’s what we should do,” he continues, as his index finger draws continuous circles around her navel. “Adopt.”
“Are you seriously back to thinking about that?
“Back to thinking about it? I haven’t STOPPED thinking about it.”
Esme frowns. “You were thinking about adoption while we were…?”
“Not WHILE we were. I did stop for THAT. I do have to concentrate more now, you know. I’m getting old.”
“Oh please…” Esme rolls her eyes. “...how many times have we had sex? In almost thirteen years? You could be fully comatose and still get things done. Muscle memory and all that. And you are NOT getting old. What’s the saying ? You’re only as old as you feel?”
“Is that supposed to make me feel better? ‘Cause I feel like I’m ninety.”
“You have just as much stamina and enthusiasm now as you did when we met. If not MORE. You’re hardly getting old. What’s gotten into you lately? You’ve been talking about the weirdest things. Getting married again, having another baby, adopting a kid. Are you okay, honey? You don’t seem okay.”
“I’m pretty far from okay. I thought we established that a few days ago.”
“OTHER than that. What’s going on with you?”
“Nothing. Nothing is going on with me. It’s just things I’ve been thinking about. Things I want to do. With you.”
She rolls over onto her other side, settling her head on his bicep as she faces him. “Are you going through a midlife crisis? Is that what’s going on here? Last month, you went and got a motorcycle after I finally caved. You went back out into the field. You’ve started talking about wanting to renew our vows and how we could get things reversed and have another baby. Now you’re onto adoption. Is that what all this is? A midlife crisis?”
“No. It’s not. No one lives to be ninety four.”
“A LOT of people live to be ninety four, thank you very much.”
“Well I hate to break it to you, but I won’t be one of them. And nothing’s gotten into me and I’m not going through any kind of crisis. It’s just things that I have on my mind. That I’d like to do with you.”
“Well the baby thing is off the list. I can’t go through the whole process of having things reversed and MAYBE getting pregnant. There’s no guarantee I would and I honestly don’t think my body can handle it again. I had problems with EVERY pregnancy. And each time things got worse and worse. Do we really want to take that chance? That I do get pregnant and something horrible goes wrong?”
“Nothing went wrong with Takota and Brookie. It was the best pregnancy you had. I mean, you had the cramping and the bleeding in the first three months, but after that…”
“They each weighed eight pounds. Or close to it. They were BIG babies for twins. Do you want to take that chance again? That we’d have another set?”
“I highly doubt we would. That seems pretty unlikely.”
“We thought having a second set would be unlikely. But it happened. I had all kinds of problems with Addie; I almost lost her twice and she was early and so tiny when she finally came. I gave birth to Declan on our living room floor. And don’t get me started about TJ and Tanner. Because that was a nightmare. I can’t do it again, Tyler. I just can’t. I can’t put myself through that; procedures to reverse everything and then getting pregnant and something going wrong. I just can’t.”
“Okay, so we don’t go that way. We adopt. It’s not like we can’t afford it.”
“What is going on with you? I used to think it was a breeding kink. And I was more than happy to go along with it and I figured you’d just grow out of it. Now I’m starting to think it’s something more than that. What is your issue? About needing so many offspring? How come every time we agree to stop, you change your mind a few months or a couple years later?”
“I don’t HAVE an issue. Maybe I just like having kids with you. Having a big family. What’s wrong with that? It’s what we wanted, isn’t it? What we agreed on.”
“We agreed on three. Then you changed your mind and talked me into it and we settled on four. I lost one and then we split up and one of our little hookups ending up with me getting pregnant with Declan. He was supposed to be the last. That was it.. And low and behold…”
“I changed my mind and we had Addie.”
“And then Kota and Brookie. Even though we BOTH swore up and down that Peanut would be very last. You even went and got a vasectomy. Didn’t exactly work, did it.”
“That was totally my fault and I owned it.”
“We have our big family. Way bigger than either of us really ever planned on. And now you’re talking about more? This is when we’re supposed to start really enjoying each other. All of our kids are in school; we have the entire house to ourselves. We should be capitalizing on that. Going places together; out to lunch or taking those road trips we like we used to or even spending time on the beach. You can try to teach me to surf. AGAIN. Now that you’re home more…”
“That’s just it, Me. I’M home more. Not you. Me. I spend ninety nine percent of my time working from home. That’s what YOU wanted. You didn’t want me going out anymore; you wanted me home and running the business and not going out there and getting my hands dirty. I gave you what you wanted, didn’t I?”
She frowns. “I thought we both wanted that. We AGREED on it. You even said yourself that it was the best decision you could have made. Considering how long you had to rehab for and the little setbacks and the complications and having to get your knee redone. You admitted that you would never have been able to go back out. At least not at the frequency and the pace you were used to.”
“I did. I DID say that. And I meant it. I CAN’T keep going the way I was. I’m nowhere near the same guy I was thirteen years ago. Or even five years ago; before Nathan got his fucking hands on me. I CAN’T do it anymore; not full time anyway. My body can’t take it. Neither can my brain. And that’s the one I worry about the most.”
It’s a bitter pill to swallow: admitting aloud that you’re nowhere near the person you’d been not even a decade ago. That you just don’t have it in you anymore; physical and mental exhaustion finally getting the better of you. And he is better behind the scenes; he enjoys running things and being the one to delegate and the guy that others look to for answers and help. But it’s still a kick in the gut. Admitting that you just can’t do it anymore.
“But I thought being home almost all the time meant getting to spend more time with you,” he continues. “That’s what I thought would happen. I thought we WOULD get a chance to enjoy being around one another more. Because you know what? I genuinely like being around you. I WANT to be around you. I want us to go places together and do things with one another. And that’s not what happened, did it. When I agreed to this whole bookstore thing. When I bought you that place.”
It had been a tenth anniversary gift; the purchase of the building and the help of both a contractor and a designer to make her vision -her dream- come to life. And it’s flourished; the locals falling in love with Esme and the business and making it far more successful than she could have ever imagined it would be. And while he’s proud of her and the success that she’s achieved and would never stop supporting her, it has come with its downside. There’s been moments of animosity towards the business itself; never expecting that it would eat up so much time or her time and take her away from him. He'd certainly never expected to miss her THAT much; hating the loneliness of a completely empty house and the mere absence of her voice. And it isn’t so much the intimacy that he longs for. The sex and the moments of more innocent displays of affection; walking along the beach with their arms around each other, the kisses while standing in the surf, holding hands while walking through the town. It’s the friendship. The laughs they have together when he’s attempting -yet again- to teach her surf and the conversations over lunch on the back deck and the road trips they take; either making a picnic the night before or simply grabbing food at a drive thru and then just driving with no set destination. Listening to her singing along to the radio and laughing when she dances in her seat or even letting her talk him into a silly and childish game of ‘eye spy’. And that little shriek and giggle she gives when she sticks her arm out the window; the accompanying breeze both startling her and tickling her skin. He enjoys those moments with her. Not just his wife and the mother of his children, but his best friend. His confidant. His most loyal and steadfast supporter. The keeper of his deepest and darkest secrets.
“I just thought we’d have more time,” he adds. “Together. That me stepping back and being a boss meant that we would get a chance to be with another more. Especially when all the kids ended up in school.”
“And I agreed that I’d cut back. I’ve already adjusted the schedule and everyone has stepped up and are more than willing to take on extra hours. Xavier was more than willing to take on a management role; I gave him more hours, benefits, a business account he can use for meals and gas costs. I’ve already taken care of all of that. Just like you asked me. Like you wanted.”
“I wanted you to want it too. I wanted you to want that time with me.”
“And I DO want that time with you. Have you ever thought maybe I felt being home more somehow hindered you? That maybe I’d be a distraction? That you’d put off work in favor of catering to me? I didn’t want to get in your way, Tyler. I know how important the business is. How well it’s doing. And I didn’t want to feel like I was taking you away from it and making you neglect things.”
“Why didn’t you just TELL me that? Why didn’t you let me know you were feeling that way?”
She shrugs. “I didn’t want to come across as whiny and needy. You’re running a company. A very successful one. I didn’t want to hinder that.”
“Baby, you could never hinder it. Or be a distraction. Well, unless you’re coming into the gym in the middle of a work out and you’re only wearing a bathing suit or a bathrobe with nothing underneath. Then you are DEFINITELY a distraction.”
“I’ve been good lately. I’ve held off. If I’m horny and don’t want to handle things myself, I don’t come in until you’ve got at least an hour and a half in. Isn’t the last thirty minutes to an hour cardio? Well I show up, offer you sex, and then you don’t have to go on the treadmill or the rowing machine or use the assault bike.”
Grinning, he uses two fingertips to clear her hair away from her face , tucking wayward strands behind. “So THAT’S your game plan. You’re an evil genius, you know that?”
“I know how much you hate standard cardio. How the rowing machine makes your back act up and that running on the treadmill bothers your knees. So I figure why not offer myself up? Spare your body any future agony. And if we go really hardcore at it, it’s DEFINITELY better than any other form of cardio out there.”
“You think so do you? Did you read that somewhere? Google it?”
“I DID google. It was actually in a highly respected and esteemed publication, I’ll have you know.”
“Cosmopolitan is NOT a highly respected and esteemed publication. No matter what you think.”
“I don’t know, their sex advice is pretty damn good. I’ve used a few of those things. You never complained, that’s for sure.”
“Which tricks? What did you try on me?”
“I refuse to give away all my secrets. But you enjoyed them. Very much. And sometimes you even ask me to do them again. How long have you been feeling this way? Like I’m neglecting you? Neglecting US?”
“I didn’t say you were neglecting anything.” Combing his fingers through her hair, he cups the back of her head in his palm and places a kiss on her brow. “I just…”
“It’s neglect. Let’s not sugar coat it. I put my business before you. Before us. And I never meant to, Tyler. Other than our children, there is nothing or no one more important than our marriage and you. I just didn’t want to get in your way. Honest. That’s all it was about. I wasn’t staying away because I wanted to. Or because I didn’t want to spend time with you. It was never about that. It was never about you. And I’m sorry. That I made you feel you were being put second. I never meant to make you feel that way.”
“And I never meant to make you feel you were going to get in the way. I didn’t even realize I WAS making you that way. I guess we haven’t made as much progress as we thought. In the past five years.”
“Are you kidding? We are totally different people. Separately AND together. We’re stronger. Our marriage is better. We hardly fight anymore. And when we do it doesn’t get nearly as heated and ugly as it used to. We’re able to calm ourselves down and not let things get out of hand. We HAVE come a long way. And I see that every day. You must see it too.”
“I do. But we still got work to do. We’re still lacking a bit on the whole communication thing.”
“It is one of our weak spots,” she admits. “But we’ll just keep working at it. Reminding ourselves that we can and WILL do better. I don’t want us going back to how we were.”
“Trust me, that is the LAST thing I want. I like where we are now. And I like that we still keep working on things. I’m proud of us, Me. And you. I’m proud of you.”
Smiling, she lays a hand on the side of his face and kisses him; long and soft and sweet. “And you call me sappy. Is that why you got onto this wanting another baby stuff? Because me being pregnant meant I’d be home more?”
“I guess so. I don’t know. Maybe it’s part of it. But there’s more to it. The way I’m feeling. I don’t even know how to describe it. I just know what it feels like.”
“You want to try telling me? What’s going on with you? You know you don’t have to keep this shit from me, right? That you can tell me ANYTHING?”
“I do. I DO know that. But that’s the thing, Me. I want to tell you. I just don’t know how to. Because I can’t even make sense of it. So how are you supposed to?”
“Try me. Just talk. Don’t even think about it. Just say whatever pops into your head.”
“That could be dangerous you know. Aren’t we supposed to be working on me trying to get some of my filter back?”
“Baby, you wouldn’t be you if you had a filter. It’s been almost thirteen years. I’m used to you. Just say whatever you need to say. Nothing could possibly shock me. Or offend me.”
Sighing heavily, he closes his eyes and rests his forehead against hers; fingers buried in her hair and gently kneading at her scalp. She gives him time; patiently waiting for an often confused and muddled mind to not only put the bits and pieces together, but for him to find a way to adequately express them. It’s part of the brain injury; the minutes he’d spent deprived of oxygen when he’d coded twice in the operating room. It brings with it a wide variety of issues that can go radio silent for weeks, months, and sometimes even YEARS at a time; short term memory issues, problems controlling and expressing emotions, lack of impulse control, bouts of confusion and an increased temper and sexual drive. And she knows how frustrating it is for him; those times he struggles to concentrate on even the simplest of tasks and conversations or he forgets what he did half an hour before or can’t recall something she told him ten minutes before leaving the house. And when he takes in another sigh -longer and shakier than the one previous- she pushes her hand into his hair and presses a kiss to the bridge of his nose.
“It’s okay.” Her voice is calm, quiet, and patient. Nails lightly and briefly scratching at the back of his head before her hand moves to the nape of his neck. “Take your time. There’s no rush. I’m not going anywhere, babe.”
She can tell by the way his shoulders tense and his nostrils flare that he’s struggling; desperately trying to piece everything together and express exactly what he’s feeling. And her heart aches for him; this strong, powerful, BEAUTIFUL man continuing to be tortured by a troubled past. He’ll never be able to fully shed the memories of Dhaka; the brain injury and its side effects and the numerous scars permanent reminders of the hell he’d been through.
“You okay?” Her hand once more moves back into his hair, gently tugging at the longer strands. “You doing alright?”
Nodding, he clears his throat noisily and opens his eyes. “I love you. And my kids. So fucking much.”
“I know you do, Tyler. I never doubt that.”
“I need you to hear it. I need you to KNOW it. Because I don’t want you taking what I say next out of context. Because it’s probably not going to come out the way I want it to. The way I MEAN it to.”
“I know you love us. I’ve never once doubted that. Just say what you have to say. No getting upset, no judging you, no taking offence. I promise. Just tell me.”
“When I met you, I had nothing. Inside of me. I was empty. And you came along and you filled most of that up. Very quickly. And then we had Millie and we started having more kids and adding to our family and each time we did, more and more places inside of me started filling up. Am I making any sense? I hope this is making sense.”
“It is,” Esme assures him. “Total sense.”
“And it should be completely filled, yeah? That emptiness? You’d think between you and seven kids and the fact we have this incredible life and all this money and two beautiful homes that there’d be nothing left to fill. But there is. And I don’t know why. I don’t know why I can’t fill that last piece. There’s this hole. In my heart. And I can’t find the piece that fits it. No matter how hard I try.”
“So you thought another baby would fill it? Be the answer?”
“A baby of our own, adopting, going back into the field. I guess I thought one of those three would be the answer. That one of them would do the trick.”
“You realize NONE are the answer, right? That none of those things are what you’re really looking for?”
“That’s just it, Me. I don’t know what I’m looking for. But whatever it is, it’s out there but I can’t find it. And I’m not saying this to hurt you or make you feel like you failed in some way. Because you haven’t. It’s not about you. Or our kids. Because I love you; with everything I am and everything I have. None of this is about you.”
“I know. I’m not upset or hurt. I know you love me. You show me and tell me all the time. When did this start? Feeling like this?”
“Couple months ago, I guess. Four at the most.”
“Right around the anniversary of Austin’s death?”
“Yeah...maybe...I don’t know…” The mere mention of his son causes tears to fill his eyes and a lump of emotion to settle in his throat. “...I guess that could have done it.”
“Baby, it’s okay to grieve. It’s okay to still be heartbroken.”
“It’s been seventeen years.”
“There’s no time limit on these things. I still miss my dad. A hell of a lot. Every day something happens where I’m reminded of him. One of the kids will do something and I’ll think about how I wish I could just call him and tell him about it. Or send him pictures of them. Or videos of Millie doing her MMA stuff or TJ scoring goals in lacrosse or Addie at dance recitals in her cute little outfits. It hurts like hell when I realize I can’t share those things with him. When I think about everything he’s missed and how much he’d love those kids. And you. I don’t think it ever really goes away. Grief. I think it’s always there in some way.”
“I just didn’t think it would be this hard. Hurt this much. Especially after so long.”
“You lost a child. A human being that you helped make,” she reasons. “I can’t even bear it when I just think about losing one of mine. So I can’t even begin to imagine what it feels like when it actually HAPPENS. To have to sit there and see your child suffer.”
“But I didn’t sit there,” he reminds her, voice cracking with emotion. “ I took off. I left him there. That was my son. And I LEFT him.”
“You were scared. You were young and you were…”
“I was thirty one years old. I wasn’t a kid. I was a grown ass man. I wasn’t some fucking kid right out of high school. And I wasn’t scared. I was weak. I was a fucking coward and I left him. When he needed me the most. He was sick and he was terrified and I left him.”
“Tyler…” She cradles his face in her hands, thumbs clearing away the tears that slip down his cheeks. “...it’s okay. It’s okay to talk about it and it’s okay to feel the things you’re feeling. But beating yourself up like this? Hating yourself? This isn’t good, babe. You can’t hate yourself forever.”
“You think so? You just watch me.”
“Listen to me,” she pleads, and digs her nails into his face. “You can’t do this. You can’t spend the rest of your life hating yourself. You made a mistake. And yeah, it was a really bad one and I am so fucking sorry that happened to you. That Austin got sick and suffered like he did and that you felt you had no choice but to leave.”
“How can you not hate me? How can you look at me like you do? Why don’t you see me like a monster? Like the huge piece of shit that I am?”
“Because you’re not a piece of shit and you’re not a monster. You’re just a human being that made a bad mistake. I could NEVER hate you. I love you. More than I ever thought I could love someone. And if there was some way I could go back in time and change things and make them better for you, I would.”
“No. Don’t say that. Don’t ever say that. Don’t ever even wish that. Because going back and changing everything would just change everything now. It would mean I’d lose you. And my kids. I loved my son. But I would never bring him back if it meant losing everything I have now.”
She kisses him softly; tasting the salt of his tears as her fingernails lightly drag along the lines of his jaw. “You need closure, Tae. It’s something you’ve never gotten. If you knew where he was…”
“She’d never tell me. Not even seventeen years later. She wouldn’t even tell my lawyer. When we got divorced.”
“Have you tried tracking her down? It’s been a long time. Last time we saw her was thirteen years ago. She may have mellowed. She might be willing to tell you now.”
“I’m not exactly her favourite person, Me. And do you blame her? I didn’t just leave him, I left her too. When she needed me. I know she was a shit wife; constantly fucking other guys when I was away. Sometimes when I was even still in town. But she didn’t deserve that.”
“Do you want me to track her down? I could call or go and visit and ask if she’d…”
“No. That is the last thing I want. I don’t want my past mixing with my present. My future. I appreciate it, Me. And I love you for wanting to do that. For being WILLING to do it. But no good will come of that. You and her meeting up.”
“Is there anything I CAN do? Because I hate that you’re going through this. And I especially hate that you hate yourself. That I can’t take that away. Because you don’t deserve that. That hate. From yourself or anyone else. Tell me what I can do. Please.”
Sniffling noisily, he swipes the back of his hand across his nose. “You can’t fix me, Esme. No matter how much you want to. Or how hard you try.”
“I don’t want to fix you, Tae. I just want to love you.”
The tears immediately return, and when he chokes back a sob she gathers him in her embrace and rolls onto her back. An arm across the middle of his spine and hand moving to the back of his head; fingers tunnelling in his hair as he rests his brow against her chest.
“I don’t deserve that. I don’t deserve YOU.”
“You deserve EVERYTHING. And you’ll never convince me otherwise. Let me love you. That’s all I want. To love you. Can you let me do that?”
Nodding, he slides further down the bed; both arms circling her torso as he buries his face in her stomach.
“It’s going to be okay, Tyler.” Both hands push through his hair; tightly gripping the dirty blond tresses, nails digging into his scalp. “I’ve got you.”

Note
2: I will figure it out eventually and that's a promise.
3: Watson is aboustely heart broken and near tears multiple times as well hearing Ran in so much distress and actually crying. Jackie does cry, he attempts multiple times to hug Ran and make it known he's there to comfort him, but it only works sometimes, and when it doesn't work Ran gets scared and tries to get away believing an attacker has gotten him. Grievous is almost like silently grieving, knowing he can't do anything to help his close friend. Cletus feels bad, and since he isnt too good with emotions, focuses on instead attempting to cheer everyone else up. Isaac and Benjamin feel awful as they feel at fault for letting it happen, so to hopefully help they make plans on how to make Ran as comfortable and safe as can be while also getting him to a nearby town they heard about to hopefully reverse it. Charles is doing his damn best to comfort Ran while also distracting him from his own thoughts, which mostly means Charles (and Watson) play the role of story teller for a while. Ranbob is the hardest hit by it, he's suffering so much because he so badly just wants to go over and hug his little brother and comfort him, tell him that it'll all be ok and that Bobby would protect him. But also knows he can't because he knows that would most likely do nothing but make it worse. For a while he spends his time blocking his ears and wrapped in a comfort blanket trying to comfort himself, as everyone else tend to his suffering brother. One thing that makes it harder is that Ran begins to purr to himself in a vain attempt to comfort himself (cause I personally like to think Enderman hybrids are like cats and purr like them, when their happy, content, comfortable, but also to soothe themselves and heal wounds), when Ranbob knows Ran's never purred, so knowing he's so desperate to try it now hurts him.
You will get some comfort, like Watson manages to convince Ranbob to at least hug Ran, and Ranbob manages to purr alongside Ran a bit, which does actually help to calm Ran down. Ran getting wrapped up with the fluffiest blanket they have and always having Watson, Jackie, or Grievous by his side. With Jackie tending to hold his hand.
4: All of the above. Sudden touch can be overwhelming to Ranbob at times, especially when he's not doing well mentally. Also while in this state, touch reminds him of the desperate grabbing and touching of the people he killed that tried to escape or fend him off. And Dream was able to hurt Ranbob by starving and dehydrating him of course, but when Ranbob was being particularly disobedient and tried to fight back Dream would often take control and cut or stab Ranbob then gave back control as punishment.
10: It does get better! Idk if I already said but Kelalen is actually where they get the antidote for Rans blindness potion! And when their given it for free and it works, they become very grateful to Adler and Lucia (the one who actually convinced Adler to give them the potion in the first place cause it was the only one left). And a few days after they arrive they actually decide to explore the town, where they meet Siren and get more information on Dream and who he was, they also get their weapons and armor repaired by them. But while talking with Siren, Cletus and Grievous sneak off and run into Atlas, then Cletus and Grievous agree to help Atlas with his prank. But by the end of their second week in Kelalen the group starts to truly enjoy their stay, Ranbob often saying how it kind of reminds him of Mizu before everything happened.
12: Thats funny though and is exactly how I'd want to be seen.
13: *CLAPS HANDS* OH BOY DO I HAVE NEWS FOR YOU. I RECENTLY TOLD MY FRIEND ABOUT RANBOB SEEING HIS DEAD FRIENDS AND FAMILY BUT FAILED TO TELL THEM IT WASNT ACTUALLY PART OF THE STORY. SO THEY TOOK IT LITTERALY AND THEY HAVE GIVEN ME IDEAS, WHILE ALSO HELPING ME REALIZE THAT THIS COULD ACTUALLY BE USED TO SET UP FOR RANBOB MOVING PAST HIS TRAUMAS AND CAN LEAD TO MORE FLUFF AND ANGST. SO NOW IT IS PART OF THE STORY, WITH CHANGES THAT IT HAPPENED DURING A DREAM AND HE DIDNT BELIEVE IT AND CONSIDERED IT A CRUEL JOKE BY FATE ITSELF AT FIRST. AND YES BY AT FIRST I MEAN THIS HAPPENS MANY MORE TIMES.
Also my friend has a message for you, "HahA THEY BETTER THANK ME I SET THEM UP FOR MORE MISERY 😈😈 /j" (I wanna be safe so if you don't know /j means that their joking)
14: Im not doing Foolish and Dream brothers because I personally don't like/get it. But I was thinking maybe they meet Foolish after Mripat tells them that there was a member of the SMP who was said to be a god and immortal. And after some long conversations they decide to go hunt for this apparently immortal god. Which takes a while since no one actually knows where he is, just that he likes deserts, and have to go off possible sightings or hints in history books. And when they finally meet him they manage to learn about totems (which they previously didn't know about) and even get some. They also learn that infact even during the SMP time no one quite knew what Dream was, and learns the ways the SMP tried to permanently get rid of him. Foolish is also devastated to know that Dream infact survived and becomes determined to help them. Even offering his help that if they ever go back to Mizu to face Dream, he'll come along and help in anyway he can.
15: I like to imagine Edward remembers Ranboo as the young troubled enderman that he basically adopted and took care of. So Edward sees Ranboo in both Ran and Ranbob, so he offers his help and advice. Basically becoming their Grandad, telling stories about everything he's seen. Especially about Ranboo because Ranbob is so curious about his ancestor he just cant help but ask. One convo I've been particularly thinking about goes something like, "Edward: Older one, what do you think your brother thinks about you? Ranbob: I..I think he doesnt like me, and that he wants me gone. Edward: Hmm, your wrong. Ranbob: What? Edward: When I look at Ran, I see a child, not an adult yet, scarred, scared and traumatized. A child that wishes you two were closer, that he could forgive you and wants to believe you, just so you two could be family again. But is afraid too, for he already has a family, that he is terrified of losing, and is scared if he attempts to trust you again that they may leave him. But make no mistake, your brother wants to make amends, your brother cares about you and wants you happy. He knows deep down that he can trust you, and that you are innocent, but you all must help him acknowledge those parts, and stand by him, helping him walk when needed, as he traverses his own nightmares." AKA I really want Edward to be the reason Ranbob realizes that Ran does want to be family again but needs help. Cause if I had to describe the brothers current positions with their trauma it'll be, Ranbob-Knows he has trauma and is trying to get better and live with it, willingly getting help. Ran-Is fucking drowning in trauma cause he refuses to acknowledge he has it and hides it well most of the time, also doesn't ask for help.
2: I fear the day.
3: Hahaha, ow, ow, ow. That, overall, is...heartbreaking. At the same time though, it’s sweet to see everyone pitching in to do their best and help him. We got it with Ranbob, now we get it with Ran.
I am curious, though. From what you’ve said, Blindness potions don’t wear off immediately? Why’s that?
4: *Chants* Please punch Dream. Please punch Dream. Please punch Dream. How do the fishermen deal with this, and help Ranbob?
10: Oh, god, Ran’s blind when they arrive in town. That’s definitely a high tension situation. Not only have you got him out of commission, but everyone else high strung from it, and probably having their protective instincts in overdrive when they randomly get treated hostilely. What exactly does an antidote for blindness consist of? Do most potions have antidotes, or counters? Is milk no longer used, or is that not a thing in the AU? It does sound nice that they all end up making friends later on though. How does Ran adjust to having his sight back? And, y’know, having everyone see him like that, and his brother comfort him(if they aren’t on good terms at this point, the timeline’s confusing me a bit)
12: Throughout this conversation, every time I read something sad, the image struck me, and honestly, it’s what you deserve. If these keeps up, I’m gonna start inserting these little 🏹s every time you hurt my heart.
13: I’m being conspired against. Does everyone see this? Brothers Anon and their friend are conspiring to break my heart. Such gremlins. What did I ever do to you two?
Also, you can tell your friend that from this point on, I will closely associate them with a tiny, purple, cackling imp.
14: Huh. Why do they want to find Foolish? Curiosity? To learn more about the Smp? About Dream? Sounds like it has a lot of potential to be quite the interesting encounter. And, since they didn’t previously know about the totems, they probably wouldn’t notice if one activated in a certain situation where it’s popped...do with that what you will.
15: Anon, I love all of this. Tell me more about Grandpa Edward. Does he fondly look back to Ranboo being polite and quiet while Ranbob and Ran cause havoc in the background? Does he bake them snacks and tell them about Ranboo’s adventures, and how much he loved to mine-which, in hindsight, is kind of funny, considering you just mentioned that so few people follow Skeppy because of the mining, but apparently their ancestor did that thing for fun.

Adira knocked on the door of her father’s office.  She threw an assuring smile at the nervous Aayes.  “It’ll be fine.  You’re a diplomat, right?  You’re more talented than I am at tough stuff.”
“I suppose.”  Aayes twirled the bracelets on her wrist.  “But imagine if you found out you had a 20 year old bastard you never knew about.”
“Oh come on, it’ll be fine.”  Adira opened the door to Dinek’s office, leading Aayes by the hand.  “Dad!  You’re not gonna believe this!”  She presented her half-sister to him.  “Look!  There’s more of us!”
Dinek’s face slowly curved from minor annoyance to outright anger.  “What?  How?!  Who is this woman?”  He noticed the lightsaber clipped to Aayes’ belt.  “You brought a Sith onto my property?!”
“Dad, it’s okay.  She’s not batshit like most Sith.  I found her after doing some research into our family history.  And ya know, paying off a few folks to get to meet her without getting my head blasted off.”
Aayes smiled politely.  “Twenty years ago, you arrived on Corellia to help the Green Jedi with some housing and charity projects.  You met one and spent the night with her.  My biological mother was killed when I was an infant.  My adoptive mother found me, hence why I’m a Sith, and not a Jedi.”
“I do not care.  Adira, get this Sith off my property at once!”  Dinek’s tone began to rise.
The smuggler was shocked.  “Dad, for fuck’s sake!  I’m not asking you to suck the Emperor’s balls or kiss Moff’s asses!  We don’t have to do anything with the Empire!  But you should--”
“Acknowledge her as my own?  Do you not know how bad that would be for business?!  I will not have my hard work undone by a wretch like her!”
“You inherited the factories and all that from Grandpa.  Also, you’re the one that cheated on Mom.  But now I know why your business trips were so long when I was little.”  Adira scowled at her father.  “How can you treat her like this?”
“The only thing that matters is defending my brand.”  Dinek rose from his chair, opening a cabinet.  “Get her out of here, or I will take her out of the galaxy--permnanently.”
Aayes scowled at him.  “Truly, you are horrible.  You refuse to even to know me before trying to kill me.  I do not blame you for wishing ill on the Sith.  But I promise you: I am a heretic among my people.  I entered diplomacy to try to find more peaceful solutions to bring--”
“I don’t care.”  He aimed his blaster at her head.  “I know what needs to be done.”
“So do I,” added Adira.  She was faster than he was, and shot him twice in the chest.
Aayes was taken aback.  “What?  But...your father...”
The smuggler was crying.  “He never took me or Mom seriously.  He also wanted to kill you.”
“So your mother...?”
“Won’t be upset.  Probably.”  Adira wiped her eyes on the back of her sleeves.  “I’m sorry.  I didn’t think he’d react that badly...”
“It’s...I’ll be fine.  At least I have a parent.”
“I’ll have to talk to Risha about getting his business in my name.  We also need to get you back home.  And I need a fucking drink.”

Darkwing Duck Reviews: Darkly Dawns the Duck Pts 1 and 2
Tumblr media
It’s a Darkwing Double Feature! Just in time for his ducktales special, I take a look at the introduction of everyone’s favorite Daring Duck of Mystery. In his daring debut we meet Darkwing Duck, an egositical and attention hungry superhero who soon finds himself having to look after a feisty orphan to keep her from getting nabbed by local kingpin of crime Taurus Bulba with the help of his biggest fan. Darkwing owns the night under the cut with decades old spoilers.
Let’s Get Dangerous.. is tommorow so with that in mind i’m doing a darkwing double feature to refresh myself before the big special. So i’ll be covering both the original series pilot “Darkly Dawns the Duck” and the ducktales reboot episode “The Duck Knight Returns”.  Let’s Get Dangerous Itself because I was so wiped yesterday I didn’t get the other review done and unexpectly got acess to the new episode way earlier than usual so i’d rather focus on that. Got it? Good. Let’s continue past me.
As usual with a new show a breif bit about my history with it: I watched it years ago, as a friend of mine lent me the first two discs of the season 1 dvd and never found the third one nor asked for them back, nor cared I had them. I thoughtly enjoyed it, had a great time and then it took me a decade or so to actually watch the series again due to a combination of being too stubborn to just buy the season 1 dvd again, a very darkwing move of me in hindsight, and then when disney plus meant I had all episodes at my finger tips I.. sat on them till now.. though to be fair i’ve sat on a LOT of great shows on there including the mandalorian, gargoyles and boy meets world. I have a bad tendency to procastinate, the fact this is coming out so late in the day should be a giveaway. I did read about half of volume 1 of the comic and all of volume 2, so there’s that at least.  Point is this new episode finally made me decide to get off my ass and watch darkwing once again, starting with the pilot and the episodes related to the fearsome four to be ready for tomorrow to see what the differences are (Thoguh I did remember bushroot vividly, so I had that at least).  Something to note before I get started talking about the pilot itself though, is the episode order for Darkwing Duck is a Darkwing Clusterfuck. Now I do understand WHY they aired this way: While some episodes do logically take place after other episodes, you can reasonably pop on just about any darkwing and watch it and enjoy it with minimal need to know what happened in previous episodes, kinda like batman the animated series oddly enough. It was also aired between two networks so on some level I get disney’s confusion here.. but on the other hand it’d take ten minutes, they clearly can call up the creator easily as Tad Stones made a cameo in ducktales 2017 we’ll get to so they could easily get a better order from the creator himself, so they really don’t have an excuse for this, or for slapping the pilot in the middle of season 1. Then again both ducktales 2017 and x-men the animated series were sort of a mess order wise when first put up, so not giving a shit about where episodes are placed for re-watching clearly is a pastime of theirs.
Now i’ve got that out of my system we can dive into the episode itself and a breif plot synopsis. Darkwing Duck is the superhero protector of St. Canard, a masked vigiliante who takes out crime but wishes he actually got fame and credit for his work. Kind of like Booster Gold but without taking endorsments or as far as we know coming from the future. He also has nothing else as shown by the fact he fights crime, does a training regimine to prepare his breakfast that’s a delight to watch then prepares to sleep. It’s an intresting concept, a hero who HAD a civlian identity once, as the rest of the series would play out, he just no longer needs it. And it’s also ahead of it’s time as batman would explore this idea both seriously with bruce wayne murderer and comedically and seriously with the lego batman movie LONG after this series aired, meaning the writers here figured out what many probably knew about batman and put it into their parody version: Batman is the real identity and Bruce is the mask. Batman only keeps his old self because the bruce id is useful to him: It keeps people away from his company, puts up a playboy facade that draws attention away from him being batman, and allows him to do various charities and what not and help honor his parents in a way that dosen’t involve swooping in and kicking people in the throat. And as seen with bruce wayne murderer when the option to throw bruce away for good came up Batman gladly took it.  This is the same idea: Drake Mallard ONLY cares about crime fighting, has no friends no family, we never do find out jack about his family hopefully if there’s a full reboot series Frank and Matt fix it for their version. He has nothing, and is fine with that. He hasn’t really had a reason to care about anything else than his own glory and works alone not because it’s less efficent but because his oversized ego means he dosen’t want to share credit. IT’s an intresting start and his ego would be a defining bit of who he is and used intrestingly int he reboot but we’ll get to that there.
His life changes forever though when local crime boss Taurus Bulba unleashes his latest scheme: To steal the Ramrod, a gravity manipulating device created by the late Dr. Quackmeyer.. late because Bulba’s men killed him and were dumb enough not to get the arming code for the ramrod first a year ago. Bulba is also behind bars but in one of my faviorite gags of the episode despite the warden’s constnat gloating, Bulba has taken the “Supervillian makes jail into a base” Or “Jail is nothing to a supervillian who can easily get out trope” to ludcrious machines. He has whole meetings with his minions, keeps the ramrod once he gets his hands on it in the laundry and has a ship SHAPED LIKE HIS FACE built into his cellblock. I’ts just so over the top it’s glorious. But yeah since Bulba can’t go after it at first he sends his three goofy minons, one played by eddie “Mandark” deezen in.. love that guy.
THey do end up stealing the ramrod thanks to the help of bulba’s cool, non-anthromporhic condor who he uses as his right hand man and as his link to his minons via a small tv aroudn it’s neck. That.. is awesome. Darkwing spots the condor but fails to stop the three stooges or the condor and gets unknowingly blamed for the robbery..and stopped to get glamor shots not realizing the guy thought he was a criminla which.. fair enough. It is a shadowy disguise after all.
Darkwing ends up grabbing onto the vulture sonic 3 style, but ends up falling off him into a hangar where we meet the original version of Launchpad McQuack, whose apparently quit working for scrooge and has his own hangar now though it wouldn’t be a stretch that scrooge bought it for him.. he does , stingy as he is, appricate hard work and launchpad wanting to start his own buisness and while hte planes were probably all on launchpad, Scrooge would gladly buy a run down buliding for a loyal friend who wants to put in some hard honest work. Plus it’s a free place to store any vehicles he has in the st canard area.. I mean it’s still scrooge. And yes I know the whole “Tad stones said they aren’t the same universe” non sense. I do have the utmost respect for the guy and he seems really, nice but I don’ tlike that, no one likes that and both the comics and the current duckverse with the ducktales reboot entirely ignore that for good reason. While the two shows are diffrent in tone they stil lfit and it’s not a stretch for launchpad to want to spread his wings or failing that scrooge to help push him out of the nest and give him his own buisness or one of scrooge’s to run.
But while Launchpad does help DW with a propeller plane they fail and while launchpad offers to be his sidekick, DW gives him the old I work alone bit.  However him being alone won’t last for long as Bulba still needs that arming code and since his only lead is Waddlemeyer’s grandaughter who grew up in his lab, he sends his buffonish minons to go get him. Why he never sends his lone female minon with them is because it’s funnier if she dosen’t I guess. Which it is so fair enough.  So thus we enter Goslyn, who the head of the orphanage is fed up with due to her antics. Goslyn is played as most of you knwo by christine cavanagh.. I honestly forgot and it still throws me off a bit she’s using what would later be her chucky finster voice for a character so completely diffrent. Granted it’s not unusual in voice acting, just weird here and only for me personally having grown up with rugrats but not darkwing. The orphanage head is a bit less jarring as she’s played by Marcia Wallace, aka Edna Krabable from the simpsons but A) that show was already running at this point and B), the character is basically a nicer version of edna versus chuckies voice coming out of a tiny if immensly fun to watch hellion. I do like goslyn, sh’es a fun character even in her shadier moments, it’s just something i’d forgotten about i’ll need to get used to is all.
Bulba’s hired goons come in claming ot be friends of her grandpas and we actually get some really heartwrenching context for Gos’ behavior: While she does act out she actually LIKES THE orphanage.. ti’s just her friends keep getting adopted while no one wants someone “full of spirit”. It’s heartwrecnhing to hear.. and only gets worse when the goons try and kidnap her.  Thankfully Darkwing.. also kidnaps her, but he kindaps her from kidnappers and while Goslyn naturally takes a second to realize he’s the good guy them shooting at him clues her in. Darkwing, in a rare for the series as a whole moment of reason and not wanting to just power though something himself TRIES to do the responsible thing and leave gos with the police where she’ll be protected.. but given they think he’s a wanted criminal they shoot at him.. and the small child in his motorcycle. Yup that’s the police alright.
So with no other options Darkwing takes gos home, hyjinks insue including her activintg the breakfast thing. But the two genuinely start to bond. While Darkwing dosen’t WANT to keep her around, the whole not wanting connections thing, it’s clear he’s growing fond of the little snot as she holds her own with his trianing course, they have a tickle fight and in the sweetest moment of the episode the two sing little girl blue, a song her grandfather used to sing her to sleep that she teaches darkwing. It’s an utterly heartmelting bit and Cummings and Cavanagh really sell the hell out of it. It also however turns out ot be plot relevant: Turns out just in case Dr. Waddlemeyer hid the code for the ramrod in the song, and when Darkwing sees a photo Goslyn got from bulba’s goons, he realizes this and realizes that depsite thinking she didn’t know it Goslyn had it all along.. and that as long as h’es around she won’t know.  Bulba is naturally livid at his minons failure and decides now’s the time to take this into his own hands and while he actually liked the prison hq setup, as it did make sense as it was the perfect cover and the warden was too full of himself to realize Bulba was still active and too convinced the bull was beaten down when he clearly wasn’t, but instead as mentioned above awesomely converts his cellblock into a flying ship in the shape of his own head.  Bulba.. is a great villian and I only think the show didn’t use him more because he’s a dead serious, deadly dangerous villian in an otherwise goofy but fun superhero parody show. The show later gained Negaduck, so they had a more dangerous threat for darkwing that fit the show’s tone better while still being utterly terrifying, and likely simply didn’t need him till the idea for the steerminator came up. But I love the guy: he reminds me a lot of the kingpin, a threatning villian who uses his sheer size to beat our hero down, is cool and suave and is an utter mastermind at planning. He also wears a nice suit.  And naturlaly he has a plan to take out darkwing since despite the two never having met, as Darkwing disparages when Goslyn assumes their lifelong mortal enmies like in the comics, they know of each other.. and thus bulba knows exactly what trap to spring to get him out of the way and goslyn into his ship: He flashes a message in morris code that he wants to surrender to Darkwing while stroking his ego a LOT. And it works... while i’ts an obvious trap Darkwing’s so full of himself he goes despite Goslyn telling him it’s very obviously a trap.  Naturally everything goes pear shaped as a result: Bulba shows up, revealing gos not only to be right but easily pummling Darkwing. Which makes sense: While Darkwing is a vetran crime fighter and secret agent, Bulba’s been at being a villian longer clearly as he’s built up enough of a rep both for Darkwing to know him out of hand and for the warden to be proud capturing him. Given what univese this is, it probably isn’t Bulba’s first round with a superhero and given at this stage St Canard only has one.. yeah Darkwing is outclasssed and the police grab him while Bulba scarpers. And while Gos puts up a good fight using the trianing course, Bulba’s vulture gets her. Bulba has everything he needs.  Darkwing meanwhile actually bemoans what a dick he’s been, that the first person he’s cared about besides himself in possibly ever is now in the hands of a murderous mastermind, and that he’s stuck in jail with no one to call on for help. Thankfully.. help arrives.. and by help I mean launchpad backing the ratcatcher, Darkwing’s bike, into the prisoin. He DID come just to bail DW out despite his earlier jerkishness, but backed in and Darkwing not beliving superheroes have time for paperwork, decides to just bust out. And to be ifair int his case he’s probably right as you know, a ten year old might die if they don’t get there in time. So off they go.. but with Bulba in the air they need something with wings to catch him. ANd luckily as Launchpad mentioned earlier he’s been working on something special for darkwing.  It’s with this we enter the thunderquack, which is DW”S awesome headshaped plane. It’s just cool it’s got a nice design, goofy enough tof it the universe but cool enoguh to still be fun to watch. Darkwing has really damn cool vehicles, as the ratcatcher is also awesomely iconic. But yeah the thunderquack impresses darkwing and rightfully so and he decides to make LP his sidekick afterall.  So now our heroes fly into the danger zone and attack bulba’s airship with Darkwing landing on the bow and a scuffle insues with darkwing and hte minons.. who use actual guns which for a 90′s kids show is  a suprise, especially one this intentioanlly goofy, but boy is it nice. However Bulba, being awesomely evil, isn’t dumb and instead of fighting darkwing, which he could win but would win him nothing and having gotten nothing out of goslyn, figures the hero might know the code.. and while Darkwing lies and says he dosen’t, Bulba points out .. he’s right.. but he’s always been a gambling man and has his condor drop goslyn to lure drake into telling him , with DW putting in the code and bulba testing it with a bank robbery.. before predictably having his condor drop the girl because he no longer needs her. Thankfully launchpad catches her in time and then they get revenge on the condor with the thunderquack BITING IT.. which is awesome. Hopefully the reboot version does that.
Darkwing meanwhile saves the day, his new daughter and the city by simply sneaking over to the ramrod and mashign the keys till it overloads, silly, but undeniably awesome and effective. Bulba TRIES to finish off darkwing this time for foiling his plan.. btu the ramrod explodes and while bulba’s minons and goslyn and launchpad are safe... bulba and darkwing are apparently dead and it’s effective.  A few weeks later Goslyn’s back at the orphanage utterly distraught and broken at being basically orphaned again. Naturally though Darkwing’s alive, having taken his old identnity back since now he has something worth using it for and adopts her, hinting at who he is so she goes with him. And Drake has changed.. sure he’ll still be as egostical and impuslive as he was here.. but he’s no longer just darkwing.. he’s drake again as he has someone worth fighting for.. two someones in fact. He has a friend, a loyal partner to help him fight cime. And more importantly.. he has a loving daughter. And both needed each other: Goslyn needed someone who understood her despite her manic energy, and Drake needed someone who needed him and not darkwing, a reason to be a person outside the cape and cowl and outside the attention again. He needed a reason to live again... and he’s got it. And it’s going to be great.
Final Thoughts: This pilot is excellent. Well paced, plenty of laughs, tense action and great introductions for everyone involved as well as a hell of a vilian> This is how you do a first episode: it introduces the main themes of the show, both comedically and dramatically, introduces the cast and gives us a one off , or rather two off it’d turn out, villian whose compelling and intresting. IT’s really damn good stuff and I can’t wait ot see what frank does with a simlar story tommorow. Until then, stay safe, and happy hallowen. We’ll be back shortly for The Duck Knight returns and then Let’s Get Dangerous tommorow.

The Parent Trap AU - No Capes (?) - ABO (Omega!Bruce Alpha!Clark) Jon and Dami are twins. Jon lives with Clarkin Smallville, in the farm, and Dami lives with Bruce in Gotham, in the manor. They got to a camp. They go to the same contest because of a new school program. A camp. And Dami's "friends" (they're not friends) make fun of Jon cause he looks just like Dami, and Dami doesn't like that. And his friends tease them even more because everyone knows about Bruce Wayne's adiction on picking up dark haired blue eyed boys from the streets. "Does this mean you've got a lost family, Dami?" "Maybe you're also an orphan and Bruce couldn't take both of you" "At least all your brothers understand that, eh?" "Maybe your original parents abandoned you two on different places".
Dami is not amused. Jon is a little scared of city mice.
Something happens - an activity or something program related - and they get paired up. They receive some odd looks from the adults because they look alike and they constantly mix up the last names but in the end, they don't do much because they have like hundreds of kids and not so many adult hands.
In one of their tasks, Jon starts talking about his dad and life on the farm, then he asks Damian about his life and his own dad, at which Dami tells him he doesn't have a dad
"of course you have a dad! Everyone has a dad!" "I mean I don't know him. Mother doesn't talk much of him, either." "Oh, that's sad. Dad doesn't talk much about my mom. I found a photo, though. Grandma let me have it, I'll show you when we get back!"
And oh surprise, the young Omega in the picture is no other than Dami's mother, so Damian frowns at the photo (in which his mother is carrying a dark haired baby in his arms and is smiling adorably at whoever took it) and takes his family carpet - the one where he's recording his family history - and finds the exact same photo as the day he was born.
Now he wasn't sure if it was him in his mother's arms.
Jon feels the tension and also shows him one photo of his dad, a tall grinning Alpha wearing glasses. Dami studies the photo and turns the pages in his carpet.
"This was mother's bodyguard when he was very young."
Jon agrees that, even without glasses, the Alpha behind Bruce Wayne looked exactly like his dad.
"So, what happened?" "Who knows, Jon. Mother never mentioned a relationship. Like I said, he never talks about any dad." "You mentioned brothers...." "Adopted. All of them. Older, too. And two sisters." "I wish I knew my mom. And our brothers? sisters. Well, they'd be mine too if mom accepts me. But maybe he didn't want me, and that's why dad took me." "It doesn't make sense. Mother has a lot of children. Why would he let you go with your father? Why would your father left us?" "It's not dad's fault!" "It isn't mother's either."
Dami is the one with the plan. He teaches Jon everything he knows about the family and lends him the carpet after making him swaer on his life to protect it, and Jon talks about his grandparents, and aunt Lana, uncle Pete, his dogs and the farm animals. Dami wants to see the farm, the animals, more than he wants to meet his father. Jon wants to meet his mom and his unoficial siblings, and the so called Pennyworth that raised his mom - "another grandpa!" "Pennyworth is no grandpa!"
Dami is happy wandering the farm, avoiding the Kents. Martha is worried, but Clark is absent minded. Then Dami finds out the reason Jon's dad doesn't seem to mind his boy's oddnes: He's going to marry some journalist - Lois Lane - and apparently move to Metropolis. Clark is allowing his kid to have as much fun in the farm as he can while it lasts.
On the other side of the country, Jon is having a blast. Every brother and sister discovered the plan in the first few minutes of meeting him, and they helped him trick Bruce and Alfred. Alfred discovers it first - probably when all the batkids are comforting Jon after THE CALL -, tears up a little, makes everyone swear not to tell, and has a talk with young Master Jon. They all agree that Clark's compromise stays a secret.
Jon confesses to Bruce.
There are tears and kisses and hugs and cuddles all around. Then Bruce asks worriedly about his pup, and sighs in defeat when Jon tells him that Dami went to meet his dad.
The whole family travels to Metropolis.
Meanwhile in Smallville, Dami rescues a small doberman. Lois is not amused, because they can't have pets in her apartment back in Metropolis and it seems like his fiancé's pup is not willing to leave his new pet behind. Martha promises the new dog will be safe when they get back, knowing something is up, but not wanting to spoil whatever her grandchildren had planned. Clark is worried about his pup, noticing the differences. Lois tells him it's normal on children his age (12) and that maybe he's simply rebelling against the idea of his dad marrying her - or anyone, they both lived twelve years alone with Clark's mother in the farm - "He'll get over it, Clark. He'll love Metropolis."
And so on...

I manifest, briefly, to write about this miniseries WHICH I HAD EXTREMELY HIGH HOPES FOR, and it disappointed me so much I’m compelled to write an actual review about it. In summary, of course. If I did it in-depth, it would probably have to be on my proper blog (oops shit I haven’t updated that in ages).
INTRO ABOUT JAPAN AND WWII (skip this to get to actual review of series)
TOKYO TRIAL. Ah. The Asian parallel to Nuremberg. Media about Japanese war crimes and the subsequent actions (the trial, the rehabilitation of criminals, the adoption of Unit 731 research by American forces, the conflicts between the Japanese Imperial Army and its victims) is not as extensive as the war in Europe. In fact, the Tokyo Trials themselves were not as punitive as the Nuremberg Trial (for a host of bureaucratic reasons, but also the lack of systematic eradication of Japanese citizens, but this is a very simplified explanation). And most media about the Japanese occupation is usually Chinese or Korean (understandably) even though the Japanese did a good job fucking up the Philippines, Malaya, the Dutch East Indies and so on. Also, much media about the Japanese occupation, I find, tends to be about the overall general existence of the Japanese occupation force, rather than specific historical figures (I am making a blanket statement here, I’ve watched limited amounts of Korean and Chinese language media on the Japanese occupation). There’s nothing wrong with this, of course, but the lack of quantity then leaves a viewer chomping on the bit for some good historical drama.
Part of it, probably, is due to the relative mystery of the Japanese occupation when compared to the Nazi occupation. Nazis, the Holocaust, the Third Reich are everywhere in media and have been researched and shared to death. Not so for the Japanese invasion (well, probably in English). The Rape of Nanking (book) was probably THE thing that shone a spotlight on Japanese atrocities, but it’s a drop in the ocean compared to the overall Japanese action in Asia (newsflash: the Japanese ALSO tortured the people in countries that were not China, even though yes, I will readily admit they especially tortured the Chinese populations in countries that were not China).
There is so much Good Shit TM from a edutainment perspective on stuff you can squeeze out of the Japanese invasion. DID YOU KNOW??? THE JAPANESE ARMY CYCLED - ON BICYCLES - FROM THE KINGDOM OF SIAM TO SINGAPORE OVER 2 MONTHS, CAPTURING ALL THE TERRITORY THEY CYCLED THROUGH (because the locals supported the Japanese invasion at the time - Asia For Asians! was the propaganda they put out which was total bullshit, the locals would eventually discover), AND THEN ACCEPTED A BRITISH SURRENDER. THE KING OF SIAM AGREED TO LET THE JAPANESE USE THEM AS THE BIKING ENTRY POINT IN EXCHANGE FOR “DON’T INVADE ME BRO” AND ALSO “can I have some northern malayan territory”. THE JAPANESE AGREED. You can’t make this shit up. And this is the non-atrocity part of it. The atrocity part is as vicious, but differently so, from the Holocaust (which I would prefer not to get into as that’s an entire essay in and of itself - summary: the Japanese bayonet everything - EVERYTHING - and also Contest to kill 100 people with actual Japanese swords as promoted by Mainichi and Nichi Nichi Shimbun and also soap water drinking stomach bulge boot step interrogation technique ok let’s stop this here)
You get what I’m saying. It’s an entire period of history that has not been harvested for good quality drama. And I don’t need fabricated romantic bullshit (I’m looking at you, Embun (even though you were damned good, you’re STILL BULLSHIT)). I’m talking Schindler’s List-type films, with history and gravitas and nuance. Most historical movies have immature script-writers who basically paint the Japanese occupiers as monsters (not necessarily inaccurate, but painfully one dimensional). (Digression: Recently I watched Kanang Anak Langkau which was about a Malayan (and then Malaysian) Ranger who helped fight off the Communists after the Japanese occupation ended and, man, the entire movie was flat... except the Communists??? Like, they were clearly terrible but they were well-portrayed and had great actors. So. Opposite problem. Asians are really bad at war films that aren’t Classic Period Dramas.)
As a citizen of a Japanese-occupied country, with YEARS of history textbooks dedicated to the Japanese occupation, and a generation of Japanese war survivors either dead or unwilling to discuss their experiences, in a region with... pretty bad recording of this sort of history, I think you get my interest and fascination with this entire chapter. And since I’m in a country that isn’t the centre of the Japanese invasion (i.e. China and Korea) it makes even more sense that I’m interested in the occupation and action in countries like the Philippines, Malaya and so on.
ACTUAL REVIEW OF TOKYO TRIAL MINI-SERIES
OK. Sorry. I had to get that off my chest. SO. Tokyo Trial.
This is actually the second piece of media about the Tokyo War Crimes Tribunal on video that I’m aware of (that’s been dramatised). The first one was a movie, also called TOKYO TRIAL, and it was a Chinese production (in English) from a Chinese perspective. The protagonist was the Chinese judge on the bench, Justice Mei. Tokyo Trial the Movie (TT(M) from here on out) was heavily dramatised and abridged in order to make for (well, attempted) excitement, action and historical legal thrills. It gets bogged down at times with some typical pacing problems (typical for Asian films). Like a good historical legal thriller, it focuses on victim testimony and the arrogance of the accused and of course it culminates in the feel good moment where you can watch outraged/distraught Japanese war criminals reacting to their sentences. Overall not a bad movie to watch, but not really great. Made interesting only by the righteousness of the protag and the severity and outrageousness of the subject matter. But it suffers from some stuttered pacing and an extremely narrow Chinese POV (understandable, given the protag and the production).
Now. Tokyo Trial (Mini-Series) (TT(MS) from here on).
Pros: Very beautiful. Decent Actors. VERY BEAUTIFUL.
Cons: Literally everything else.
HOW. HOW DO YOU CREATE A MINI-SERIES ABOUT THE JAPANESE WAR CRIMES TRIAL WITHOUT FEATURING JAPANESE WAR CRIMES?????
Astounding. I’m truly astounded. Where to even begin.
1. The protagonist
GUESS WHO IT IS. No really, guess. In a movie about the Tokyo War Crimes Tribunal, guess who the main character is. I guarantee you won’t get it.
It’s the Dutch Judge.
Tumblr media
WHY?
The Judge, btw, doesn’t even have any kind of personal or professional link to the Japanese occupation. Even when the protag is asked by a stranded German diva about how he must have suffered during the Nazi occupation, he admits that he didn’t have it as bad as others. His family is entirely intact although they were in the Dutch East Indies when the Japanese invaded.
2. The focus of the series
can you fucking guess
it’s the goddamn judges
the entire series is about the trials and tribulations (pun fucking intended) of the GODDAMN JUDGES
DURING SERIOUS TESTIMONY OF VICTIMS AND THE ACCUSED, THE SHOTS ARE OF THE CONCERNED/CONSTIPATED FACES OF THE JUDGES
The mini-series, 4 episodes long, opens with the Dutch Judge writing to his wife and giving some decent introduction to all the major players. And then it brings into focus the various justices from around the world who will be partaking in this historical undertaking.
The President of the Tribunal is Sir William Webb, Australian. He looks great but suffers from terrible lines and staging. BTW all the characters are extremely one dimensional WITH TWO EXCEPTIONS: The British Judge (who veers between an ally, a one-note antagonist, but is then redeemed as an anti-hero - clearly the deuteragonist) and the Chinese Judge, who is soft-spoken, well-mannered, firm but not unyielding, a clear contrast to the fiery and righteous protag of TT(M). Honestly, I think he would be the best portrayal except... halfway through, Irrfan Khan appears as the Indian Judge, and honestly Paul Freeman was so good as the British (Scottish) Judge.
The entire series is about the judges politicking amongst one another and trying to argue about whether crimes of aggression (or crimes against peace) are valid grounds for a case, as these crimes have never existed before (cue arguing about the precedent set by Nuremberg).
Our intrepid (barf) protag intersperses the tense boardroom confrontations (really can barely be called that: a serious point is brought up in court, they adjourn to their chambers, they START to argue, and then the Tribunal President immediately says ok let’s all go retire for the day before any interesting or insightful conversations can begin) with one-on-one interactions with (1) a German pianist diva whom he admires as he plays violin (their duet sucks btw) (2) a Japanese intellectual who hangs out at the beach (they have zero onscreen connection and exists only to instill doubt in the Dutch judge’s mind as he contemplates the trial) (3) various judges as they begin gossiping over the latest judge to pose drama in the chambers.
That’s all. Honestly. That’s the content of the mini-series in a nutshell.
3. The pacing and the script
god it’s so
MEALY
Every scene, EVERY SCENE, is played as grave and solemn
You think this isn’t bad? Every single scene begins with thoughtful pauses and long poignant looks, even over such lines which you can picture your grandpa and uncle just quipping at each other (”The marathon begins” “I’d rather hope it would be a sprint”).
Mealy = the actual script is so awkward. It doesn’t sound like human beings talking. It’s a mouthful. ugh.
Pacing = Example: in episode 3, probably, literally 3 scenes side-by-side, 2 judges talking to each other as they walk down a path. Each scene is: A asks B about C. And then it is immediately followed by D asking C about B. CAN YOU IMAGINE??? They don’t intersperse the shot at all. It’s just 3 conversations in a row gossiping.
Pacing 2 = time passes but badly. Suddenly a year has passed, but we don’t get a sense of it unless we’re told; there’s no difference in appearance or speaking manner among the judges. there’s no real development at all, except for the position of the Dutch Judge whose position on crimes of aggression changes as he gets pulled in several ways by several people, and you end the series without any feeling of resolution or satisfaction. AT ALL. I feel like you end where you start in terms of the arguments and everything.
4. Reflections
I’ve discovered that this mini-series was nominated for an emmy in 2017 for best series. I’ve also discovered 2 reviews (ONLY) online for this series, one on a blog and on one iMBD, both praising the series for being good for history buffs that showcases an unknown part of history.
i) That is not accurate. It is a terrible series that showcases the politics and drama of the tribunal judges, and not of the japanese war crimes. literally nobody needs to know, or care, about the judges of a war crimes trial (british, canadian, US, NZ judge conspire to get the president replaced, he leaves, US judge is chosen as his replacement, HE COMES BACK, NOBODY CARES) (aside with Blakely the US lawyer and what he’s trying to accomplish in court with his controversial and it’s not explained and ignored later)
ii) Historic footage is interspersed, meaninglessly. This includes the footage of the accused and 2 victims giving testimony, I believe. It is THE MOST INTERESTING part of the series. The footage used is minimal. And it just doesn’t gel with the whole series as a whole.
iii) This show was made by a Japanese crew and NHK so.
All in all, from an entertainment perspective, Tokyo Trial failed to be compelling, interesting or noteworthy. The actors were bogged down by a bad script and weak direction. If you want to watch a show about the Tokyo War Crimes Tribunal, watch the older Chinese movie - less accurate but way more entertaining, and it ACTUALLY focuses on Japanese war crimes.

BEASTARS MINI-STORY #3: “The Pitfalls of Thin Walls pt. 4″ (Final Part) by JCL
Legosi, who has now changed into a new t-shirt and sweatpants, stares at something with a deadpan look in his eyes. HARU: "So... How do I look?" We see that Haru has changed clothes too: She is wearing a pink blazer over a pink shirt and a pink skirt, basically looking like a rabbit-version of Jackie Kennedy. Legosi continues to stare at her. Then he begins to go pffffft as he fails to contain his laughter. Haru on the other hand looks anything but amused. LEGOSI: "I'm sorry, but it's so not your style!" HARU: "Damn straight it's not my style, none of this is mine to begin with!" (That woman next door...!) -- We see a flashback, where an apolagetic Sebun is standing in the doorway of Legosi's apartment. HARU: (It was nice enough of her to apologize for making such a ruckus and even borrow me some of her own to me in the meantime, while she is having mine and Legosi's clothes washed) A yakisoba-covered Legosi and Haru stares at her as she talks. Legosi looks neutral, while Haru looks pissed. -- Back in the present, Haru looks down at her borrowed outfit and adjusts the skirt, all the while Legosi is doing his best to keep from laughing out loud. HARU: (I am grateful we have about the same size, though what is up with all this PINK? Is she part flamingo or something? Plus, if it hadn't been for her...!) She thinks back to when she and Legosi were about to kiss in the last part and gets a melancholic expression. Anime-tears of frustration begins to run down her cheeks. HARU: (DAMN! We were so close!) Legosi, who seems to have tapped out with all the laughter, points at Haru's clothes and tries to cheer her up. LEGOSI: "On the plus-side, it does make you look more mature." HARU: "Oh yeah? Well," -- We are now in Sebun's apartment, where we see that Sebun has joined the rest of the gang with a glass of her own pressed against the wall. HARU: "-who wouldn't look like an old spinster in these clothes?" This comment seems to hit Sebun like a brick. Her offended expression gets covered by a dark aura of self-conscious depression as she begins to mutter through clenched teeth: SEBUN: "OLD SPINSTER...!" A textbox with an arrow pointing at Sebun appears. TEXT: 29, SINGLE AND OVERLY SELF-CONSCIOUS ABOUT IT Ebisu gives her a sympathetic pat on the shoulder, though like the rest of the gang, he can't help but to find the situation humorous. EBISU: "There, there..." -- Back in Legosi's apartment, Haru exhales. HARU: "My folks are going to have a laugh, that's for certain." Legosi smiles and puts his hands in the pockets of the sweatpants. LEGOSI: "Probably... It's been a pretty strange day, hasn't it?" HARU: "Eventful, though not that strange." Haru begins to count up the general events of their  dinner-date with the help of her fingers. HARU: "I mean we had dinner, I got drunk, we (kind of) went to second base, had some coffee, sat in the wok and played dress up. I'd say it was a pretty fun dinner-date. Generally speaking, I'd say it was pretty normal too." Legosi looks surprised, then cocks a brow. LEGOSI: "You really think so?" HARU: "Well, maybe you shouldn't take my word for it, I mean I didn't exactly do dinner-dates before we met. Or even date for that matter." LEGOSI: "Really?" HARU: "Really-really. I was a tramp, remember?" Haru's blunt acknowledgement to her past prompts Legosi to adopt a thoughtful expression. HARU: "Though maybe we should avoid contact with liquor from now on, I mean I don't want to nurse a hangover each time afterwards." Legosi walks up to Haru with a determined look in his eye. He stops, and looks down at her, like he wants to tell her something important. LEGOSI: "Haru... " HARU: "Yes?" LEGOSI: "I..." Legosi bites down on his lip, like he's struggling with what he's trying to say. Haru looks a little confused. HARU: "What?" Though, we see in Legosi's background that he is thinking about his mother, his father and his grandfather. This morphs into uglier details of his family history, including the last time he met his mother, his father walking away and disappearing and how badly treated his grandfather has been on account of his species. We can see in Legosi's face that he struggles to process all of this, like he wants to share it with Haru, but just can't. His arm suddenly shoots back and points at the terrarium. LEGOSI: "You know, I haven't named that beetle yet." HARU: "Huh?" LEGOSI: "I was thinking about calling him Smoochy, you know, after that movie with the pink rhino, but..." Haru blinks and notes with a deadpan voice: HARU: "That is a terrible name." Legosi nods and fidgets with his fingers. LEGOSI: "Exactly. I've always been bad at naming things, and back when you talked about us having a daughter, you said a lot of good ones. So... I wonder if you'd like to name him for me?" Haru continues to stare at Legosi, like she's thinking 'this is what he had such a hard time saying?' LEGOSI: "It could be your housewarming gift." Haru looks past Legosi and onto the rhinoceros beetle. HARU: "... Josuke." Legosi blinks. LEGOSI: "Josuke? Why?" Haru puts her hand in front of her forehead and extends a single finger from it, imitiating a horn. In her background, as an illustration, we see a wolf-version of Josuke Higashikata from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. HARU: "His horn makes me think of the hairdo of a character from a manga I used to read, named Josuke." Legosi looks happy, like an enthused kid and turns to greet his freshly named pet. LEGOSI: "Josuke huh? Oi, Josuke!" Haru rolls her eyes and proceeds to open the door. HARU: "Anyway, I think I should be leaving now. So... Bye." She begins to walk out into the corridor. Legosi however quickly turns and catches up to her in the doorway. LEGOSI: "Wait." Haru stops and turns around. Legosi goes down on one knee so that they are on the same eye level. LEGOSI: "Look, I want to be honest and upfront to you about my family... But I'm sorry, I just can't tell you about all of that right now. I can tell you about my grandpa though. He practically raised me all on his own. He is a good person; probably the friendliest and most considerate person one can meet." As he talks, Haru's expression gradually softens. LEGOSI: "He is strong, honest and would go to hell and back to protect his loved ones. You two are the ones I care about the most... And I want you to meet him some day." HARU: (Strong and honest... So that's where you get it from?) "I would love that." Then, straight out of nowhere, Haru darts forward and plants a kiss on Legosi's lips. Legosi's eyes widen, though before he can react further, Haru pulls back with a grin. HARU: "See ya." She then begins to skip down the corridor. Legosi seems like he hasn't quite processed what just happened, and stands frozen in the same position like a statue for a second or two. Then his face goes completely red and he bolts back with a flabbergasted face. As he begins to compute that he's had his first real kiss with Haru, he gets to his feet and calls to Haru. LEGOSI: "HEY! Haru!" Haru stops, turns around and gives him a sneaky look. HARU: "What? You can surprise me with dinner and I can't surprise you with a kiss? Get real! When you're with me, there'll be plenty more surprises!" She then disappears out of sight down the stairs. Legosi touches his lips with his fingers and then gives off a little laugh. Then a sudden crash is heard nearby. Legosi turns his head to see what caused it. What he sees is that the gang in Sebun's apartment, including Sebun herself, has fallen out through the door. They're now piled on top of each other, looking awkward as Legosi stares at them. The only exception is Zaguan, who is standing in the doorway and giving Legosi a little wave. ZAGUAN: "Hello Legosi!" LEGOSI: "What are you doing?" Sebun, who is at the bottom of the pile, sweatdrops. SEBUN: (I forgot to close the door again...) -- EPILOGUE #1 Haru is now back at her parents house. She is taking off her shoes in the hall when her father comes out, holding a cup of coffee. HARU'S DAD: "Hey honey, did you have fu-" He gives her an odd look as he notices what she's wearing. Then he begins to go pfffft and proceeds to laugh out loud. Haru shoots him an annoyed look and begins to stomp away to her room. HARU: "Grrrr....!" She passes her mom, who looks after her with a questioning look. She then turns to her husband. HARU'S MOM: "Who was that lady just now?" Haru's dad can't stop laughing. -- EPILOGUE #2 We see that Sebun is now at her job, sitting behind her desk and working a computer. She is wearing dark pink jeans and a light pink turtleneck with her sleeves rolled up. She looks a bit uncomfortable though, as she is gaining the attention of at least five male co-workers.   HYENA CO-WORKER: "Whoa! New outfit huh?" COUGAR CO-WORKER: "Looking good in the new duds Sebun-chan!" COYOTE CO-WORKER: "Pink is a good color on you!" SEBUN: "Uh, thank you..." (I've worn these clothes before though!) -- EPILOGUE #3 We see Raika, with Fina on his shoulder like usual, walking back to their apartment. He scratches the back of his head and gives Fina a look. RAIKA: "Um, no reason in particular for bringing this up, but if it hadn't been for scale and proportion, you'd actually consider dating me?" Fina gives her roomate an ugly look. FINA: "No. Comment." -- EPILOGUE #4 We see that some time later, Legosi has regained his and Haru's clothes from Sebun. He is currently inspecting his t-shirt. LEGOSI: (The clothes are nice and clean again) He then looks confused as he holds up yet another copy of Harold and Kumar go to White Castle. LEGOSI: (Though why did Sebun give me a copy of Harold and Kumar too?) -- THE END
