I don't think enough people talk about how brazenly ableist full-blown gun abolition is. Gun safety laws are one thing-- I have few qualms with those-- but actually advocating for the banning of guns is a whole other.

Because you know how well abolition works? Not very. If the war on drugs is any indication, banning guns won't just get rid of the guns. It'll drive guns further underground. There will be LESS regulation because they CAN'T be regulated. Law-abiding citizens won't be able to purchase guns as a means of self-defense.

This means that we're disarming citizens who want guns for self-defense, while facilitating the arming of potentially dangerous people who DO want guns for malicious purposes, such as committing shootings or hate crimes. Disabled people suffer the most for this.

"Just learn how to fight!", except you're talking to an elderly woman in her 70s who absolutely cannot stand toe-to-toe with your average, healthy middle-aged man. Or maybe you're talking to a man who IS considered healthy for all intents and purposes, but he needs a wheelchair. Maybe the person isn't visibly disabled, but is limited by poor coordination or reaction time. The other person doesn't even need to be wielding a gun themselves. A bat, knife, or any other melee weapon still makes an unarmed disabled or elderly person extremely vulnerable to attack.

I, for one, would like to have an option for self-defense as a scrawny, multiply disabled, visibly trans person. Most melee weapons are heavy, and "bringing a knife to a gunfight" is a figure of speech for a reason. You can deliberate on what a world would be like if guns never existed. You can say that the world would probably be a better place without guns at all, and maybe I'd agree with you. But that doesn't change the fact that they DO exist, that criminalization does next to nothing for actually protecting citizens, and that people probably aren't gonna want to give up their arms while they're actively being threatened by a heavily armed government.

It's hilarious how gun grabbers act like the 2nd Amendment advocates are straight white Christian men who hate women and minorities. Most gun organizations are cool with anyone joining and women and minorities have their own gun organizations.
