A list of reasons why Rory Gilmore is a good person and not the shallow, manipulative person people make her out to be:

Took full responsibility for breaking Paris’s project and offered to help her fix it despite Paris being only rude to her at this point

Didn’t tell anyone that Paris had to take her cousin to the Chilton formal despite Paris taunting Rory/saying Rory couldn’t get a date

Told Paris that she could talk to her if she ever needed anyone to talk to despite the fact that Paris had just exposed Lorelai and Max kissing to the whole school

Encouraged Tristan to ask out Paris because she knew Paris had feelings for him

Helped Paris get ready for her date with Tristan and allowed her to borrow her mother’s clothes

Reassured her mother several times about her relationship with Max

Agreed to a coming out party because it made her grandmother happy

Helped Paris study numerous times despite Paris almost always antagonizing her

Gave Jess a chance and was nice to him when the rest of the town despised him. She even vouched for him/defended him often.

Took partial responsibility for the car accident with Jess instead of letting him take the entire blame, which the entire town was doing (and she reassured Luke as well).

Dyed Lane’s hair and then also then dyed it again after Lane freaked out (and she even left the Kim house through the window so that Mrs. Kim wouldn’t see her)

Agreed to go with her grandfather to visit Yale to make him happy even though she didn’t really want to and was only interested in Harvard

Apologized to Dean after their break up and took full responsibility for the problems in their relationship (even though it wasn’t all her fault).

Took time out of her busy end of the year schedule (when she was dealing with finals and being valedictorian) to help her grandmother pick out an outfit for her graduation

Went back to Kyle’s house the day after the disastrous party to get Lane’s heavily stained backpack and deliver it to her

Was always super supportive to her friends (Lane with her band, Paris with academics, Lorelai with the Inn, all of them about their relationships, etc.)

Helped her mother throw a baby shower for Sookie (albeit they never got to have said shower).

Took care of Logan when he in the hospital and after even though he hadn’t been the best boyfriend at this point.

Always encouraged Dean to pursue his dreams/passions and told him he could do what he put his mind to.

Anyways this is all I can think of off the top of my head but stop saying Rory Gilmore is a terrible person. Yes, she made mistakes, but everyone does lol

Another reason (besides many others that I've talked about before) Logan's "you're just like the rest of us!" spiel in Season 7 rubs me the wrong way is that I think it doesn't fit with the dynamic ASP set up for Rory and Logan to have. Because Rory ISN'T like the rest of them. And that's always been part of her appeal to Logan. ASP said that the core of Rory and Logan's relationship was about having fun and "avoiding reality," and while it's obvious how that applies to Rory, I think the same is true for Logan as well. And it's not just the partying, it's Rory specifically that's an escape for Logan.

This is related to the general theme that Rory is "caught between worlds" and can't quite fit neatly into either one, and in Season 5, when Rory starts to really want to try on her grandparents' (and Logan's) world for size, it's made clear that she doesn't quite belong. Logan first objects to starting anything with her because she's "special" (how flattering)- and while yes, that has a lot to do with Rory being perceived as a "relationship girl," it's also framed as being different from the culture he's used to (Honor's friends, whom he's "known forever," are a case in point). And when Logan does decide to try a more serious relationship with Rory and brings her home to dinner, it turns out that his family doesn't approve. Rory's not REALLY "one of them," it turns out. She's tainted by association with her mother, and she's too "middle class," essentially, because she wants to work for a living. Logan is upset by this, but being with Rory afterwards becomes a Little Rebellion.

In "Vinyard Valentine," we find out that Logan has been playing house with Rory while he was supposed to have been at an important business meeting his father had arranged for him. We also find out that the trip across Asia Logan and Rory have been planning cannot actually happen at all, because his father is planning to ship Logan off to London immediately after graduation. And Logan knew this the entire time. He was simply choosing to pretend that he could make his own plans.

This theme is continued into the Revival, when we find out that Logan is engaged to a woman his family approves of, but is avoiding thinking about it by having an affair with Rory. Both of them are using each other to escape reality, but reality comes anyway. Logan can pretend he can be with Rory, can wistfully think about "what-ifs" and "might-have-beens," but in the end, he knows that he's not going to fight to make it real. He had his Little Rebellion, but he's not going to fight against his family's plans. I think it's crucial to emphasize that he could if he really wants to, but in the end, while he may love the idea of being with Rory, he doesn't love her enough to be willing to leave it all behind. And if Rory was "just like the rest of them," he wouldn't have to.

hm okay like this is my take on the post-why did you drop out of yale rogan fight that no one asked for!! inspired by a tiktok i saw where the comments were all pro-logan but i digress. i digress. we start off w rory (RIGHTLY) calling logan out for being an absolute jerk to jess. which he was. and we all know it. logan, in typical huntzberger fashion, brushes it off + claims that writers are sensitive + that if jess wanted to, he should’ve “taken a pop at [logan]”. what is rlly funny 2 me abt this is that this is so so similar to what mitchum said to rory?? like mitchum dismissed rory in a really similar fashion to logan just dismissing jess’s accomplishments. and both have that air of oh-if-they-wanted-to-prove-me-wrong-they-could yk? idk i thought that was interesting. and then he ends all that by saying that rory shouldn’t let jess get to her. which. this is one of many many scenes that show truly just how incompatible rory and logan are, just because it’s been proved just time and time again that logan does not understand who rory is and also just doesn’t care. rory obv responds saying that logan is the one getting to her and that he was an ass. logan retorts saying that he’s sorry that he messed things up (but he’s obv not, when has that man ever been sorry in his life). this is kinda when we segue into rory’s underlying crisis with everything that’s happening. she calls logan out for mocking jess when he’s actually accomplished something amazing (logan saying everyone’s doing something like. lol what are you accomplishing exactly?? stole 2 yachts probably set a world record but like...that is rich coming from him), and goes on to say that she’s unhappy with her life bc she feels like she’s not doing anything. and as viewers we know that this is nowhere near the vision rory had for her life, and she’s so unhappy bc she doesn’t belong in the dar, she doesn’t belong in logan’s world, just partying her sadness away. rory is so deeply unhappy with where she is in life right now, and logan isn’t even listening to her he’s just telling her that it’s temporary and she should have a drink!! and this is again. just. such a good example of why they’re so so incompatible bc rory needs someone who is going to push her to be the best person she can be, someone who’s not going to take her shit and redirect her to who she actually is when it gets hard, not someone who’s just going to let her continue her self-destructive behavior just bc he’s doing all that too!!! like rory is spiraling and she’s at rock bottom in her life and logan has absolutely nothing to say until he feels like she’s criticizing him. like bro not everything is abt u sorry!!! she’s talking abt herself and logan comes at her when she wounds his pride a lil like...partying and drinking is not who rory is point blank!! and he just puts it all on her like yes it’s her choice to be partying and drinking but that’s also just. all he does and he knows it!! and rory says that and he just. launches into a monologue of self pity about the great huntzberger dynasty and how he’s being pushed through only one door and it’s like. rory is so right he doesn’t have a hard life he doesn’t know what it’s like to actually work for what you have. and yes i welcome the convo abt rory also having a lot of privilege but her privilege ≠ logan’s privilege at all!!! they’re very different!! but rory is so right in this scene bc we’ve never seen logan actually fight it. and logan has no aims!! no goals!! no passions!! he just wants to continue abusing his family’s wealth with no consequences!! like this is the only time u will see me agree w mitchum huntzberger but like. logan should be pushed thru that door bc he has no actual aims in life...and also like. logan saying that he gave rory a month is so absolutely useless bc he never once checks up on her. he never once comments ab how dropping out is uncharacteristic of her. never asks her if she’s doing alright??? no he just gives her a month like she’s going to fix herself and btw. yeah it did have smth to do w you!!! it had everything to do w you in fact...it was ur father that said all that shit that got in her head. and he never even disagreed w his dad btw. like god sometimes i wonder if logan ever even LIKED rory or just felt attracted to her bc she was the first girl who didn’t give him time of day like...he never once felt concern for her? when she dropped out of the school she worked so hard to get in to? like it’s wild to me truly. like even in this argument his main point is to absolve himself of any blame in rory’s dropping out/rory’s spiral. like there is no concern. he doesn’t care!!! his gf, the one he apparently loves sooo much, is spiraling and struggling and he does not give a fuck. he only shows any sort of emotion when she criticizes his lifestyle and when he feels like he’s to blame for her situation. like that says so much...

eventually celia and his best friend broke up, which he blames as the catalyst for the downfall of their high school legacy, and was quite bitter about the break up, as though that were why his best friend lost touch with him.

he went away to play soccer for the wvu mountaineers, where he did have a potential at going pro, at least until he broke his leg during a street race. his father was disgusted that he’d thrown away his only chance at being worth something, but at least he had his political science major... 

shortly after graduation, jasper went back to huntsville for another weekend trip to visit his friends when the storm hit. 

a few months after the storm began, his father came looking for them (more out of anger at their shirked responsibilities of following his dreams for them than concern) and refused to be trapped in the town, but was caught at the border by the monsters. jasper was never close to his father, but generally doesn’t like to talk about this. their last conversation was about his being a failure, as usual.

I know you said you probably won't want to watch Season 7 again, but what are your overall thoughts about the season so far? What is it that you don't like about it in general? (It's not a favorite of mine either, but I'm curious!) Is there anything you HAVE liked about it so far?

Hmmmm, I think I'll state what I wasn't a big fan of first and then what I did end up liking to end off on a good note.

Warning, my memory sucks so this will probaby be a bit inaccurate or off when I'm recounting these but I'll try my best!

Cons:

I'll state off the bat, no Jess. Automatically, not a big fan but I can work with it so it's not the biggest thing that sorta made me like this season so much less. (Still made me kinda sad but I get it, it's fine I guess.)

Rogan. Yup, I said it. There was something so sugary, so artificial that wasn't really there to me before that frustrated me and honestly, I found certain aspects of them so strange. And I think one day I'll get fully in depth about it in a post but to sum it up: The rocket was an interesting gift but it wasn't very romantic to me at all, the whole 'Logan has great hair' thing was also.. um, that? The "Hi." "Hi." in the episode where Logan visits SH set me off too. And I'm 100% biased when I say all this as it felt like they almost ripped off Literati with that and the hair thing. There I said it, I'm sorry.

Rory's character was particularly strange too because I've noticed before that I always found her love for Logan frankly strange/obsessive but s7 had a really big goal to make her life pretty much revolve around him. I mean, I'm pretty sure at one of the Friday Night Dinners, Emily actually asked her what her summer plans are and she responded that Logan was gone so.. Yeah, I dunno. As well as her jealousy over that woman that worked with Logan at that dinner (Which was another part that I didn't really like b/c Logan pulled the same thing he did back in s5!)

CHRISTOPHER AND LORELAI, WHAT THE HECK WAS THAT- I can't even wrap my head around how much that ticked me off. I just couldn't believe it too.

Those are just what I immediately thought of off the top of my head. I promise, I did enjoy certain parts too!

Pros:

Luke in Dad mode. Look, I understand completely how much the April storyline could bug people and to be honest, it bugged me too since it was so clearly used to split up Lorelai and Luke but I actually don't hate April as a character. I think she's pretty good and her interactions with Luke were rather cute.

Lorelai's letter to help Luke was EVERYTHING. I genuinely enjoyed it, and the way the scene was shot as well where it was read out loud then it panned to Chris reading it as well with Lorelai's voice. Ah, just so good.

The final episode was done wonderfully, regardless of what the writers may have done, they did know how to tie the show up nicely.

(Just because I'm a bitter emo person, the moment Rory and Logan split was also kinda relieving BUT it's not something I'd officially add to the pros b/c the other side of me really did not care. Christopher and Lorelai could be added to that category as well.)

There's probably more that I add to this but yeah, these are my thoughts. I totally entered rant mode, sorry but yeah my general thoughts! Thank you so much for the ask, it was nice to actually get these thoughts and feelings out.

I know you all like to compare the assorted boyfriend of Lorelai and Rory. Dean and Christopher. Eejit and Luke. Max and Logan. Tomayto tomahto. Etc etc. You got the first one right. But you’re wrong in your reasoning and the rest of them. Allow me to explain.

Yes. You’re right on the Dean is the Christopher to Rory’s Lorelai. But you’re wrong on why. He’s the first boyfriend we know about chronologically. Dean’s the safe option. The one most approved of by her mother. The one she goes back to when she’s drowning because she feels safe. He’s the one she lost her virginity to. The one it never works out with because it’s either never the right time or she keeps screwing it up for herself. THAT is why Dean is like Christopher

The colossal eejit is Jason “Digger” Stiles. He’s the worst of Rory’s boyfriends. He’s abrasive. He’s up his own ass. He disrespects her parents. And he abandoned her after betraying her. In a very different way to what Digger did. But at any rate. I am NEVER forgetting what that bastard almost did in “Keg! Max!”. And neither should you. So you see. Eejit is Digger.

Logan. Is. Luke. He’s the misanthropic last boyfriend that sorta hates his community but not really. He’s the one she moves in with. They break up over a misunderstanding and get bck together. The only major difference is. Luke and Lorelai stay together and Rory becomes Logan’s mistress (she makes a habit out of that doesn’t she?). But Logan is still like Luke.

Marty might as well be Max. Good for Rory like Max was good for Lorelai. But the writing never gave him a chance. And season seven made him stupid. But still. Marty might as well be Max.

So you see. That is the best way to compare the Gilmore girls various love interests. Dean and Luke are still the best of them all though. And you can’t change my mind

Having just watched "21 Is the Loneliest Number," I've been thinking about the whole "Logan didn't know it was Rory's birthday" thing. Watching it again, it seems like the main function of this in the immediate narrative is to show how Rory's birthday is intrinsically connected to her mother in her mind, and that the pain of their rift is causing her to avoid thinking or speaking of it. So, at its most fundamental level, this probably isn't really ABOUT Logan at all, and to his credit (you know me. I HAVE to be fair about this.) he does recognize how out-of-character this is for Rory (his mention of how she goes all-out for other holidays) and I can't claim he doesn't care, because he was clearly bothered that she hadn't told him and seemed concerned about her. On the other hand, though, them choosing to have Jess remember her birthday, a statement completely unrelated to the rest of their conversation, that he TURNED BACK to add, two weeks after the event was even relevant... feels like a deliberate contrast. This is fiction- NOTHING is here accidentally, especially when it has no other reason to be.

Given all that, if I had to guess, I wonder if the point was to highlight that Jess knows Rory in a way that Logan just... doesn't. And in saying that, I don't even mean that's Logan's fault! There's not necessarily anything intentionally faulty or negligent about it (though he could have put forth the effort to find that out without her offering. As I've said before, Jess had no practical reason to know Rory's birthday either, as they never celebrated it together. He's just inquisitive and observant in a way Logan doesn't often care to be, as a general personality trait.) it's just something that IS. He does care about her, he just doesn't really understand her or what she needs (this is clear in the Revival as well). His response to her telling him about the Atlantic City plans shows that, while he DOES care and wants her to be happy, he just... doesn't get it. Him taking her to Atlantic City wouldn't fix anything because it was never ABOUT Atlantic City. He thinks she's disappointed to miss the event. He doesn't understand that the event itself means nothing to her without her mom. It was the with Mom part that made it special. He doesn't understand that the reason she loved the Birkin bag was that he gave it to her, that he had thought of her, and she would have been just as touched and grateful if he'd given her a tote bag from the grocery store. He doesn't understand that taking a passive approach (though in honesty, I do have to acknowledge that he might have had the best of intentions) to Rory's hiatus from school wasn't what she needed. It might have worked for some people, but we're not talking about them. We're talking about RORY. He just... doesn't know her beyond a surface level.
