Lestat/Daniel NI Era Headcanons
I've been thinking a lot about Lestat and Daniel and their history together. We know Lestat was on Night Island for a while but we never got much of that era post-QotD in the books (a shame, really, as I would read 5 novels about that time!) But the plus side is we can just make up whatever we want. In that vein (no pun intended), here are a few of my Lestat/Daniel headcanons from the Night Island Era 🌴.
Daniel was super excited to share his story about his life and his time with Armand with Lestat, and told it in far too much detail in a chaotic burst, sometimes doubling back to add in an anecdote that had happened years before the place he’d gotten to in the narrative. He definitely told Lestat far more than he needed to know. But Lestat enjoyed hearing about Armand in this era and somehow managed to cut the whole thing down to what we get in QotD, although obviously lots of things were left out and not all of the little things appear in chronological order.Â
One of Lestat and Daniel’s first real interactions beyond him telling Lestat his story was Daniel giving Lestat a tour of the island. The tour was extremely thorough including taking him to the back halls of the shopping center and a random beach cave on one of their private beaches. Daniel talked nervously the whole time, rattling off explanations for why everything was the way it was unprompted, and Lestat delighted in his enthusiasm and eagerness to share.Â
Armand, Daniel, Lestat, and Louis all went mini-golfing together in Miami exactly once. Louis did surprisingly well. Armand and Daniel did well, too, as they’d done the course several times before. Lestat kept missing his shot at the windmill hole and finally threw his club in the pond and stormed off. Daniel chased after him down while Armand and Louis retrieved the club. Daniel took Lestat to his favorite night club to blow off steam and by the time Armand and Louis caught up with them, Lestat was in better spirits and they all just pretended it never happened. (But they did not go mini-golfing again.)Â
The moment Lestat learned Armand had a favorite speed boat that he didn’t want anyone else to use (the sleek black one, of course) he absolutely had to take it out on the water. He conscripted Daniel to help him retrieve the keys from Armand’s desk and they took the boat out joyriding. Armand was more annoyed than angry (and secretly mostly only annoyed he didn’t get to go).
Lestat was recognized a few times while hanging out with Daniel both on the mainland and Night Island’s public spaces. Daniel appears in one tabloid photo with Lestat, though he’s half-cropped out. Armand bought several copies of that particular issue. Daniel is glad the internet wasn’t really a thing in the 80s and that photo only appears in that one magazine’s physical archives.Â
And of course, I'd love to hear your headcanons about Lestat and Daniel and the mischief they may have gotten up to on Night Island or Miami.

Bullshit bull sharks
Titusville, with it's PG-13 name, makes us the most responsible we have been the entire trip. A 6:45 wake up call to visit rocks spring kayaks disturbs our slumber. Illness, disease and hangovers have afflicted us along the coast, and today is no different. Derek drives the Pacifica (should be called Atlantica) to the attractions door, as half our crew musters their strength for the day. Along the way we are met with torrential rain, and fear that the entire day will be cancelled. We press onward, and are rewarded handsomely.
We drive down rural roads and arrive at our destination. What can only be described as Florida rock music blares as we pass sawed-in-half canoes and ripe outhouses. Before we board our canoes we pass "the news" a majestic great blue heron, honed in on a baby alligator it intends to spear. We know we are in for a treat.
Our canoes are clear plastic vessels, scaled up plastic bottles cut in half. As we start to paddle Joel and I meet a mother and son who just completed a lap around the marsh. The boy points north and tells us that way "has some cool stuff". Fortunately our guide Sarah agrees, and we start our journey upstream. The murky stream turns to clear glass, and minnows and small fish scour the riverbed.
It's difficult to steer the boats, and we clumsily run into eachother around every twist and turn. Friend, strangers and trees serve as bumpers along the narrow stream. Nobody capsizes, but there are close calls. Dotted along the river are private cabins, and we fantasize what it would be like to live such a life. A private river and mornings spent listening to alligator growls and bird calls speaks to all of us.
The grey skies and intermittent rain work in our favor. Our guide informs us that on hot days, 100's of people crowd the river. We pass very few and are privileged to explore in solitude. We all agree we would choose this over the crowds.
Racoons, herons, otters and fish visit us on our tour, but gators, the only animal we were promised, elude us. However, the experience is fantastic, and none of us seem to mind.
A tired drive back to the lodge is followed by an afternoon nap. Ingredients are gathered for tacos, and we enjoy the second home cooked meal of the trip. Our stomachs and wallets rejoice.
Fatigued from the day and longing for croquet, the twins stroll out the door and make a course by the bay.
We see creatures in the water across from our apartment. Hot debates are had between manatees, alligators, sharks and mermaids. Dylan swears he sees a set of jaws, but ultimately we settle on manatees.
As the sun begins to set, we stroll out for a game of mallets. Dylan splits and goes for a solo walk down to the pier. With a gentle breeze blowing, he shares an intimate moment with a manatee on the dock.
Croquet is a fine course. The thicket before the wickets is dense, hard shots with little gain. Joel claims his third victory in a row, and is now unfazed by his win. Orlando has treated us right, and only Miami lies ahead.
Blake
A few additional notes by Derek
- Dylan and I had some brotherly love on our dual kayak. Felt like we were twelve again.
- The swimming things totally could have been a pod of bull Sharks. Everyone was swapping crocs, manatees, and sharks, and the only absurd answer was croc.
- I stepped in an ant hill and got bit to shit. My poor feet can't catch a break.

It will show the sunny side, such as the beaches and games, and Florida's historical and cultural side. It has everything from meaningful prehistoric structures to funny, weird attractions.

The natural landscape of Florida is as varied as the state's population. Some of the ecosystems available in this state include the salty water environment of the ocean shore, the salt marsh, the mud or salt flats of the coastal region, the freshwater of springs and artesian aquifers in the northern central part of the region, and the pine flatwoods in the southern part of the region.
Most luxurious homes are located near these coastal areas, giving the inhabitants direct and near access to many tracks, parks, and other conservation lands.

Investment Potential
Housing in Florida, especially an oceanfront luxurious home, is prophetic of a luxury lifestyle and an investment that guarantees profit.
The performance of the real estate industry in the state has recorded steady increases over the years, especially on issues related to ocean fronts. Due to the scarcity of suitable parcels of land that can host such properties, such assets are considered valuable and sometimes experience price appreciation.
Further, Florida's tax structure, including no income tax, also benefits the wealthy population to invest in. The state also has a healthy tourism business, making it a great rental business since many luxury homes could be used as seasonal homes.
Conclusion
Luxury oceanfront homes in Florida present a quality of living that enhances the environment, allows physical activities and is complemented by all apparent comforts. The beautiful sands of the beaches, the colorful population, the historical sites, and the variety of fauna exist in Florida.

Solene Marchand, the thirty-nine-year-old owner of an art gallery in Los Angeles, is reluctant to take her daughter, Isabelle, to meet her favorite boy band. But since her divorce, she's more eager than ever to be close to Isabelle. The last thing Solene expects is to make a connection with one of the members of the world-famous August Moon. But Hayes Campbell is clever, winning, confident, and posh, and the attraction is immediate. That he is all of twenty years old further complicates things.
What begins as a series of clandestine trysts quickly evolves into a passionate and genuine relationship. It is a journey that spans continents as Solene and Hayes navigate each other's worlds: from stadaium tours to international art fairs to secluded hideaways in Paris and Miami. For Solene, it is a reclaiming of self, as well as a rediscovery of happiness and love. When Solene and Hayes' romance becomes a viral sensation, and both she and her daughter become the target of rabid fans and an insatiable media, Solene must face how her romantic life has impacted the lives of those she cares about most.
Solene Marchand is a 39-year-old single mother to teenage daughter, Isabelle, along with having a successful career as an art gallery owner, which allows her the privilege of traveling the world to art shows. After Solene's ex-husband and Isabelle's father, Daniel, backs out of taking Izz and her friends to a concert in Las Vegas for their favorite boy band, August Moon, Solene finds herself thrown into the throngs of being a teenage girl in love with her favorite boy band.
The tickets won awarded the girls the opportunity to meet the band underneath Mandalay Bay, where they were performing. Solene finds the members charming, albeit on the younger side, the youngest of them being just 19 years old.
But, what transpires after that meet and greet and concert in Vegas sends Solene on a whirlwind romance with 20-year-old Hayes Campbell, founder and main songwriter for the band. Solene is at first hesitant, understanding that their age difference could have her be his mother's age, but that doesn't stop Hayes, and later, it doesn't stop Solene. She quickly finds herself falling in love with this young musician, and despite saying he wouldn't, he finds himself falling in love with her.
They try to keep their relationship a secret, especially from Daniel and Isabelle, but after photos are captured of the two of them on a private boat in the Carribean capture the two of them in illicit acts, everyone is midly disappointed in this, including Solene. She didn't want her romance with Hayes to come in between her and her daughter's relationship, but it continues to do so, especially after kids at her private school begin making fun of her because of what her mother has been doing.
Despite thinking everything would be okay, Solene ultimately decides to end their relationship, joining him on the Japan leg of their world tour. She returns home, and attempts to get back to normal but she knows that like herself, Hayes is completely heartbroken. When he shows up on her doorstep a few weeks after she ended it, he tells her that he quit the band so that they could be together, but Solene doesn't allow this.
For months, he tried to reach out to Solene, but she ignored his advances. Eventually, he stopped his attempts and the two of them could begin to move on.

History and Culture Disney made an effort to work closely with Bahamians to infuse Lookout Cay with the essence of their art, celebrations, ecology, and heritage. The destination provides both Disney magic and an authentic showcase of Bahamian people and culture. Here are some ways they did it: - Architecture and design: The buildings and public spaces feature bright colors, seashell accents, and shapes inspired by nature to reflect Bahamian style. Local artists contributed murals and sculptures. - Goombay Cultural Center: This area pays homage to the Junkanoo festival, a vibrant Bahamian tradition. It has decor reminiscent of Junkanoo parades and offers cultural entertainment. - Port adventures: Excursions allow guests to explore the island's ecology, history, and culture, like the South Eleuthera Eco & Cultural Tour by 4x4 vehicle. - Shopping: The Wind & Waves Traders boutique sells locally made Bahamian crafts and artisan goods for guests to bring home. - Community partnerships: Disney collaborated with local artists, historians, tour operators, and schools to develop the destination in an authentic way. For example, Disney donated funds and expertise to establish community gardens at a local school. Cultural Experiences - Junkanoo festival: The Goombay Cultural Center celebrates Junkanoo with decor, music, costumes, masks, and more. Junkanoo is an iconic Bahamian festival known for its colorful parades, costumes, and music. - Goombay music: Goombay is a genre of Bahamian music that will be featured. It uses drums made from cans and skins for a unique sound. The cultural center is named after it. - Storytelling: Various spaces like the arrival point Mabrika Cove (named after the Taino welcome greeting) aim to share Bahamian stories through design details inspired by nature, folklore, and more. - Local arts and crafts: The Treasures of Eleuthera shop will sell locally created gifts, art, and crafts for guests to experience and purchase. - Natural landscapes: Spaces like Triton's Trumpet Stage gazebo showcase inspiration from the island's tropical landscapes and natural wonders.
Differences Between Lookout Cay and Castaway Cay While the two share similarities as tropical private islands, Lighthouse Point promises a more culturally immersive experience focused on showcasing authentic Bahamian essence. Its location and partnerships make it distinct from the fully Disney-owned Castaway Cay. Here's a quick list of differences: Location - Lighthouse Point is located on the island of Eleuthera in the Bahamas, about 114 miles southeast of Castaway Cay. Ownership - Castaway Cay is a separate private island owned solely by Disney. Lighthouse Point is a private port/destination that Disney purchased, but it relies on partnerships with the Bahamian government and businesses. Size - Castaway Cay spans 1,000 acres. Lighthouse Point is 700 acres. Design and Experience - Both offer pristine beaches, family-friendly amenities, water activities, etc. But Lighthouse Point aims for a more authentic Bahamian cultural experience through design details, shopping, entertainment, and excursions. Exclusivity - Castaway Cay can only be accessed by Disney cruise guests. Lighthouse Point will also be exclusive to Disney, but is more integrated with Eleuthera island. Expansion - Lighthouse Point will supplement Castaway Cay to support Disney's growing cruise fleet. It offers a new destination more convenient to home ports like Port Canaveral.
Conclusion Lookout Cay offers the perfect blend of natural island beauty, exciting excursions, family fun, and adult relaxation. Miami Travel Guide
Combine many different styles, mix in a hefty dose of art and an ocean splash and you'll have Miami. As you gaze at the incredible art galleries and the thriving food scene, you may think it is impossible to believe that in the past century, the vibrant Floridian city was covered with swampland. As developers started to pounce on the region, it became one of the most sought-after tourist destinations and breathtaking city skylines in the nation were created. Today you can walk along South Beach before you and the Everglades in the background and the Everglades behind you, you can stroll through the streets that are bustling with activity, passing historic homes that are adorned with Spanish phrases and Caribbean music ringing in your ears.
The mini melting pot has preserved diverse neighborhoods like the well-known Little Havana as enclaves for distinct traditions to flourish. United the two communities, they make up an electrical network called Miami. The reputation of the city for its lively partying and nightlife can be seen at Miami Beach, a barrier island that lies to the east of the mainland. The city's laid-back atmosphere has an edgy feel. If you want to experience Miami Beach, sign up for one of Miami Beach's most popular boat tours. On these tours, you'll be able to admire the glittering skyline through the water, either by boat or by parasail.
*You can book your cheap flights from Detroit to Miami with the Lowest Flight fares and enjoy a trip.

Although they enjoyed these rooms and rooms guests gave a few kudos to the staff and the facilities of the hotel, particularly the infinity pool as well as the three eateries on the premises.

The gym located at the Brickell Avenue Four Seasons is amazing: It's at a staggering 50, 000 square feet, and offers an array of cardio equipment, over 100 fitness classes per week, certified trainers, and many more. The only downside that you can say that way is the fact that it's closed all hours of the day. Little Havana

Miami Travel Tips
Best Months to Visit
The ideal time to go to Miami can be found between March to May. In these months you'll be able to experience temperatures that are in the 70s at low prices as the majority of the country is still undergoing defrosting. The all-year-round tropical climate and parties close to Miami Beach mean tourists - many tourists from the northern States, South America, Europe, Asia, anywhere, and throughout the year. If there are any events that are special that takes place, the city gets more people and has higher hotel prices. To maximize your chances of getting a deal make sure you book your hotel around city-wide events or during the scorching summer months.
How to Save Money in Miami
Don't attempt trying to catch up Miami people are likely an entire year ahead in every trend. Keep your credit cards safe in your wallet and spend your money at the local malls when you arrive back home.
The temperature rises and hotel prices drop in the summer's humid and hot. While the beaches are likely to not be as crowded, it's still going to still have to contend with mosquitoes for the sandy areas.
Find shelter in the inland areas: hotels further away from beaches are more affordable. Coconut Grove is an excellent alternative to inland for affordable lodging.
Consider a boat cruise If you do not have the money to purchase a private boat There are many boats available for public tours in Miami which let you enjoy the water. Are you not a fan of the water? Numerous other land-based guided tours are also offered.
Culture & Customs
It is a popular destination for famous people and those who are well-off Miami's vibe is more sophisticated than smaller coastal cities like Destin as well as Fort Lauderdale. It is important for visitors to dress in a professional manner, particularly when dining out or participating in the nightlife scene close to Miami Beach.
There's a different side to the town which is heavily influenced by Latin culture. A significant portion of the population is comprised of individuals who are from Cuba, Puerto Rico, and Haiti. Due to this large influx of newcomers, Spanish can be heard widely throughout the city, particularly in neighborhoods such as Little Havana - and you could hear a little French Creole as well. Latin culture also has played a significant role in Miami's nightlife scene with numerous establishments playing Latin dance and music.
With its diverse mix of cultures and larger-than-life persona, It's no wonder there's an energizing art scene in the Miami region. From a variety of art museums with a variety of tastes to many galleries that showcase contemporary and contemporary art, there's plenty of artistic talent in the city. The city is crowded with visitors in December to attend the renowned Art Basel show.
What to Eat
The city is an international one food from all across the globe can be enjoyed in Miami. Fast becoming a mecca for foodies, staples such as Cuban and Peruvian cuisines mix with traditional American meals along with Japanese sushi. Because of its location on the water, fresh seafood is easy to find either.
A lot of restaurants have a tradition within the community, going to the past, like the authentic Cuban cuisine on the menu at Versailles Restaurant and the fresh sustainable seafood available in Garcias Seafood Grille and Fish Market. You can also visit Little Haiti for a taste of the Caribbean at Chef Creole's. Be aware certain less formal restaurants only accept cash.
Some restaurants like Secreto include Latin, European, and Asian tastes to make something distinctively Miamian. If you're looking to eat that's more refined take a look at the restaurants in hotels that line the downtown. Highly recommended by locals and experts Restaurants like La Mar by Gaston Acurio at the Mandarin Oriental, Miami, or Area 31 at the Kimpton Epic Miami provide the finest dining experience and stunning views.
Safety
Miami is a major city, so it's important to think about safety always even at your hotel. Always have an emergency map (or download one from your smartphone) and avoid unexplored areas at the night. In any major city, you should keep the eye on your personal belongings always, particularly when you're in the city. Avoid carrying wallets in your back pockets and ensure you have a firm grip on any bags or purses that you might have. Similar to most major city centers, Miami does feature a small number of transients that typically shop in the tourist areas of the city. There are some experts who recommend staying away from the area around downtown during the night. Although it's a bustling area of the city during the day, however, it becomes a mess in the evening and may become somewhat shady.
Miami weather may also be the reason for concern. Be aware of the forecast for tropical storm warnings. If you happen to encounter a hurricane, remain at home and turn on the news or on television to get up-to-date information about emergencies. When the storm is over be sure to stay clear of power lines that have fallen and roads that have been flooded. Experts recommend being careful when walking because debris like broken glass may be difficult to identify.

Casey and her mother sat on the deck of the boat Ethan had chartered for a private scenic tour of the bay. Her Dad, Ethan, Naveen, and Alan were on the other end of the boat engaged in a lively conversation and Casey was grateful to have some time alone with her mom. They were always very close, and while Casey hadn’t told her every detail of her relationship with Ethan, she did know quite a bit. Rose MacTavish really didn’t need her daughter to confess anything. She knew her Casey too well. Sure, he was her professional idol and mentor, but she spoke of him too frequently and her voice changed whenever she spoke of Dr. Ramsey. When she saw Casey, there was no denying the light in her daughter’s eyes any time his name was on her lips. And when she began calling him Ethan, Rose had no question in her mind.
She was not always happy about their romantic involvement because there was such a power imbalance. What were his true intentions? Rose really didn't know him. And the last thing she wanted is her daughter's hard work negated because people assumed she merely slept her way to the top. After Miami, she encouraged Casey to pursue relationships with others, especially Bryce who Rose adored. But in time, she knew it was futile, she would just have to watch this play out. As the years progressed, Ethan began to join Casey on some of her trips home. He would take time off from work to see her parents visited Boston. She, and her husband David, grew to like him and they could see how happy Casey was in his presence. But, Rose knew commitment was not necessarily Ethan's thing, and, as a mother, she worried.
But that was the past. As they all were taking in the second day of Casey’s birthday weekend, there was no denying how in love the couple was. How could Rose not be overjoyed for them?
“Casey, I simply love seeing you and Ethan so happy together. I know it was a long and bumpy road. I know I encouraged you to move on many times, but I’m glad I was wrong, and it all worked out in the end.”
Casey was beaming, “Momma, I love him so much. I always felt this strong attachment to him; I can’t explain. I really believed it would be the two of us in the end. Until the night he told me he loved me, ironically.”
“What do you mean?”
“I was deciding what to do with my future, I was down to selecting between staying at Edenbrook or accepting the position at NYU/Langone and moving to New York. Honestly, I decided to stay on here, but I was going to tell Ethan we should go our separate ways. After three years of no commitment, I had given up hope that it would ever happen. Then, literally, 10 minutes later, he found me on the Harborwalk, and the rest is history.”
“Then you were right, my sweet girl, when the universe saw you had given all you could give and it conspired to bring him to you. Because you two could not be kept apart.”
“Aww, Mom,” Casey got teary-eyed and gave her mother a big hug. “Oh, that’s so beautiful. And, I honestly agree, but Ethan would totally roll his eyes at us right now.”
“What am I rolling my eyes at?” He said as he walked toward them.
“My Mom and I believe we were destined to be. I am meant for you and you are meant for me, so when I was at the point where I didn’t know if I could continue, you showed up and declared your love… now here we are. I don’t believe it’s just chance that did all that.”
Ethan kneeled next to her chair. “Well, until recently, I would have rolled my eyes. Now, I can’t deny that it feels like we were written in the stars.”
“Jesus, do I need to take your temperature? Have you been in the sun too long?”
“Very funny. But, I think we both may have been out too long; we have the fundraiser tonight, so….”
“Yes, we should go home and get some rest before that. My dress is too gorgeous for it to be partnered with dark circles under my eyes.”
“Rose, I’m so sorry we have this event tonight, but I couldn’t get out of it. I spoke with Naveen, and he is going to take you all to dinner tonight.
If we don’t run too late, maybe we can all have a nightcap after.”
“Well, that’s very kind of him, but you two, don’t worry, we can entertain ourselves, and we will be seeing you tomorrow for Casey’s birthday.”
“This feels like a never-ending birthday!”
“Good,” Ethan said, kissing her cheek, “then it’s going as planned.”
____________________
When they returned to their apartment, Casey took a quick shower and Ethan was very eager to get her to bed, but not for the usual reasons.
“I really want us to take a power nap. What do you say an hour or two? The fundraiser starts at 7:00, so that will still give us ample time to get ready.”
“Do we get snack time after nap time too, Dear?”
“You’re funny. Are you in?”
“I’m in.”
“Hey, I never asked, where is this taking place anyway?”
“At the Opera House, actually. They do beautiful events there.”
“Really, I’m anxious to see that. So, yeah, let’s get some sleep."
____________________
Several hours later, Casey was putting the finishing touches on her makeup as Ethan patiently waited for her in the living room. She was taking extra care to look her best this evening. It was her first official event where she would be on his arm as his girlfriend, not his “colleague,” and she surprised herself at just how giddy that made her feel. But she also realized how eager Ethan was to attend this event, and Ethan never wanted to attend these events. Maybe he just wants to show off his girlfriend too! In any case, she wanted to look spectacular.
As she sauntered into the living room, Ethan rose from the couch. The look on his face was priceless. The fact that he struggled for words made Casey’s heart skip.
“Case… Casey… I don’t have… you are always so beautiful, but tonight, you have outdone yourself… how am I so lucky as to have you on my arm?”
He was right, she was simply resplendent. The gown she bought for the occasion was the perfect combination of refined elegance and mind-blowing sensuality. The rich red fabric hugged her body falling into a billowy skirt with a slit that went up so high Ethan was already thinking about getting her out of it, even though he could not take his eyes off of her in it. She wore her beautiful blonde hair down and to the side, falling atop her left breast and accentuating the gown's plunging neckline. Ethan could barely breathe.
Clearly happy with his reaction, Casey smiled and grabbed the lapels of his black tux, “You’re one to speak. You look simply gorgeous. I am going to be the envy of every woman there, and I will be quite ready to let them know that you are all mine.”
“Only yours,” he replied placing a gentle kiss on her forehead. “Now, while you look so ravishing that now I just want to keep you home to myself, what do you say we get going. I got a text, our car has arrived downstairs.”
“Then let’s go!"
When they arrived downstairs a black, Mercedes limousine was waiting for them.
“A limo?” Casey said, shocked, “Why on earth did they send a limo?”
The driver overheard her and jumped in. “There are many events in the Boston area tonight, so our sedans and town cars were all booked. Since Dr. Ramsey is one of our best customers, he was upgraded for this evening.”
“Are you complaining, Dear?”
“No, but you need to understand, this is just not the lifestyle I am accustomed to.”
____________________
When they pulled up in front of the Opera House, the marquis announced this evening’s fundraiser, as did the signs in the lobby. But, with the exception of the staff, there seemed to be no one present.
“This is odd." Ethan approached a gentleman who was arranging the place cards on an elegant table in the lobby.
“Excuse me, we’re here for this evening’s fundraiser….”
By the confused look on Ethan’s face, the man already knew his question, “Yes, the event starts at 8:00 PM. You’re a little early.”
“8:00? I could have sworn the invitation said 7:00?”
“I’m sorry, sir, it is definitely 8:00.”
“Well, I guess we can get a drink and kill time. Is the bar open?”
“I’m afraid not, but there is a reception area set up on the mezzanine. You are certainly welcome to wait there and, I can see if our wine steward could perhaps bring a bottle to you.”
“Thank you, but I have a private box. Do you think we could wait there instead?”
“Of course, I’m sure you know the way.”
“I do, thank you.”
Ethan held Casey’s arm in his as they walked up the opulent marble staircase.
“That’s unlike you, to get the time so wrong. What could be distracting you?” Casey grinned.
“These days, it would definitely be you, Dear.”
“You’re private box? Ethan, normally I’d be all for getting frisky there. In fact, I think we should make a point to do it soon; but I am not messing up this look on the first night I get to be in public as your girlfriend.”
“Well, then you foiled my plans, but I will be content with your company nevertheless.”
When they reached Ethan’s box, he let go of Casey’s arm and pulled the red velvet curtain aside for them to enter.
Casey’s eyes went wide as she took in a gentle breath through her now parted lips. She turned her head and looking into her love’s eyes, “Ethan?”
The box had been festooned with hundreds of red roses. White and red rose petals covered the floor, and antique white candles provided the only light, casting an ethereal glow.
“Ethan, what is this?”
He took her hand and led her to the railing, standing her exactly where she stood the first time he brought her here two years ago.
“Ethan?” She asked again.
He gently put his finger against her lips, “Shhhh. If you’ll allow, I can explain.”
Ethan cupped her face in both of his hands, and Casey leaned into his touch, just like she had two years earlier. She didn’t realize it, but Ethan did, and his tender smile grew wider.
“I came here tonight to right a wrong. The first night I brought you here, we shared a beautiful kiss in this very spot, then I went on to spoil the moment by telling you what we shared was complicated. You told me it wasn’t complicated for you. Casey, you were always so much wiser than me. You weren’t alone in the realization that the two of us were inevitable, but you were alone when it came to accepting it. No matter how much I tried to deny it and push you away, you never let go. As I stand here now, I know that there is no way I can ever properly repay you for the patience you had with me. Still, I promise you, Casey, I will spend every day I have making it up to you.”
“You know I was afraid of love and afraid of giving myself to anyone. The fortress I had built around my heart prohibited any chance of me ever finding true happiness in this life, and it was impenetrable to everyone... except you. One of the reasons I was frightened is because I knew you had the key. I knew you could walk right through that door, and I knew that, once you did, I would have no choice but to surrender to you, and I have.”
“Today marks just 10-days since I finally told you that I loved you, and some may say that 10-days is far too soon. But you and I both know, those 10-days only represent the time since I finally came to my senses. They don’t represent how long I have loved you, how long you have held my heart or how long I have been yours. Because when I look back now, I know I have belonged to you since the day my eyes met yours just 15-minutes into your first day at Edenbrook. There is no question we were meant to be. There is no question that at that moment, the invisible thread that had been pulling us together for a lifetime finally completed its task.”
“I’m a better man because of you, Casey MacTavish, and I know that the best version of me is the one that is by your side, and that is where I want to spend every day for the rest of my life if you allow me to.”
He dropped to one knee.
Casey lifted both of her hands to cover all but the eyes on her now tear-streaked face. Ethan removed a small velvet box from his pocket, opening it to present the exquisite ring he had made just for her.
“I love you with all of my heart, and I hope you will make me the happiest man on earth. Casey Rose MacTavish, will you marry me? Will you be my wife?”
Casey bit her lip as tears rolled down her cheeks. She wanted to jump in his arms and scream “YES!” but he had literally taken her breath and her words away. She needed a moment to bring herself back to reality.
She reached down and tenderly caressed his cheek before she fell to her knees in front of him.
“Yes, Ethan Jonah Ramsey, oh, God yes! You have made me the happiest woman on earth because I cannot wait to be your wife.”
Ethan let out a breath he had not realized he was holding as a glowing smile stretched across his face.
Momentarily forgetting about the ring which fell to the floor in its box, he grabbed Casey by the waist and effortlessly lifted them both to their feet. He held her face and pulled her in for a passionate kiss, the one he knew he should have given her in this spot two years ago. He lifted her off the ground and spun her around as she laughed joyfully in his arms.
Placing her on her feet, he beamed, “Casey, you’re going to be my wife.”
She smiled, “And you’re going to be my husband.”
“Yes, I think that’s how it works.”
They both laughed.
“Ethan?”
“Yes, my love.”
“Where the hell is my ring?”
“Oh, God, the ring… yes… oh, thank God, it’s right here.”
Ethan removed the breathtaking ring, a gorgeous oval center stone with two smaller (though not small) round diamonds on either side. Casey gasped.
“My God, Ethan, it is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen.”
“It’s three stones,” he said as he slid it on her finger, “I insisted, it had to be three stones. One for each year that you have been a part of my life because, in so many ways, my life began the day I met you.”
Casey stared at the ring on her finger for a long moment. Her mind was still trying to accept that this was all real. She turned to Ethan, Please stop saying such unbelievably beautiful things to me, please, my makeup is already destroyed for the night,” she giggled.
He pulled her flush against him and gave her another kiss. “You’re going to have to deal with that because I’m never going to stop.”
“Oh my God, we’re engaged! What are we supposed to do now?”
“Get married?”
She laughed, “No, I mean now, tonight.”
“What do you want to do?”
“First, I want to drive around in the limo and stand outside of the sunroof together and scream to everyone on the streets of Boston that we’re engaged.”
Ethan laughed, “Do you really want to do that?”
“Oh, yeah, I do!”
“Then we will. After, I want to take you to the Lookout at The Envoy. It has the best view of the Harbor, and I am buying their best champagne so we can toast. Would you like that?”
“I would! Then we can walk down the Harborwalk to where you told me you loved me, just to kiss there. It feels like the right thing to do.”
“It does. Then what do you want to do after that?”
“Then, I want to go home and get out of these clothes and make love to you all night long, and I mean all night long. No sleep tonight, Dr. Ramsey!”
“I fully support that idea!”
He kissed her once again before sweeping her off her feet.
“What are you doing?” She giggled.
“I’m carrying you to the limo.”
“As he began walking down the stairs, the staff of the Opera House began applauding.”
“I take it she said yes!”
“She most certainly did.”
I DON'T NORMALLY DO THIS, BUT I KNOW I'LL GET ASKED:

"Or any landmark place with iconic look related nature not openly presidental history?"
First, most of our natural parks -- Grand Canyon, Yosemite, Yellowstone, Sequoias/Redwoods, Badlands, etc. -- are all in the west/midwest and not very easy for people to get to in an eco-friendly place. Almost all of our natural areas require long car rides or planes (or both). That said, here are a few off the top of my head:
Our most iconic natural landmark is Grand Canyon, but it's practically the middle of nowhere and not an easy place to get to (see comment above).
Central Park (in NYC) - they could hold the ceremony at the Belvedere Castle or at the Jackie Kennedy Onassis Reservoir
Niagara Falls - bonus points for this one if Will and Kate pair it with a Canada tour as they can be on the Canadian side while the prizes are held on the US side. Though most of the event venues seem to be hotel ballrooms (which isn't as glamorous as the Alexandra Palace) but wouldn't it be neat if the whole thing was done on one of the boats with the falls as the backdrop?
Florida Everglades
Mount St. Helens in Washington (easily accessible from Vancouver if there's a Canadian tour)
But there are also several cities along the East Coast so endangered by rising oceans due to climate change they're expected to be gone by 2100. The Earthshot Council might give these places more weight so they can raise attention to the harmful effects of climate change:
Boston
Manhattan
Miami
New Orleans
Charleston
All signs point to Boston or NYC because they're also transportation hubs, making it easier for people to get there. Not only that, Boston and NYC make it easy for performers and presenters to "offset" a trip to Earthshot with other business in NYC.
I am wary of the event being in DC. 2022 is the midterm elections so it's going to be a very political fall with a lot of sniping. Earthshot has to avoid politics to be a sustainable long-term effort so I can't see William wanting to get pulled into the muck. (And we Americans cam/will always make everything political.) So if it is held here in DC, there should be no politics at all - no Presidents, no First Ladies, no one currently sitting in Congress or serving in the Cabinet. We don't have an "elder statesman" not affiliated with politics in any way, like David Attenborough, who could be the face of this movement in the US. The only people I can think of are Jeff Corwin, because I used to watch his nature shows all the time growing up, and Morgan Freeman, because he voiced the "March of the Penguins" documentary that set the standard for American nature docs. (Al Gore and Jane Fonda are too political, and Leo DiCaprio is very "do as I say, not as I do" with his private plane army.)
Thanks for this detailed analysis. I also think DC isn't an option, not just because it's an election year, but because there is no way that a future King of the UK would host such a high profile event at the seat of the American democracy.

ROUGH ROAD TO TOP
August 16, 1953
(1)
One of the more famous CBS-TV shows is “I Love Lucy.”Â
Its two chief characters - Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz - have had a rocky road to their present status as one of the top comedy teams in the country.Â
At the end of Lucille's first year in dramatic school she was told by her teachers that she was wasting her time and money, that she would never become an actress. She was fired from all four of her first jobs as a chorus girl. Later, as a model, she almost lost her life in an automobile accident and was told she would never walk again.Â
Revolution FactorÂ
It was a revolution in Cuba and a mishap in World War II which were fateful turns in Arnaz’ trip to stardom. The Cuban revolution destroyed his family’s wealth, drove them to the United States. World War II got him a broken kneecap in basic training, and since he had been a professional entertainer, he was placed in limited service and assigned to entertain hospitalized G.I.s'.Â
Columbia Pictures gave Lucille a contract as a stock player, and, convinced that her luck finally had turned, she sent for mother, grandfather, and sister to join her in California. But, the morning after she wired her family, the studio decided to dissolve its stock company. When the family arrived, Lucille was working as an extra at Paramount.
Bit parts and extra roles in a number of pictures kept Lucille busy, but not prosperous, until she was cast in ’"Roberta.” RKO officials, impressed by her work, gave her a contract. When not busy before the cameras, she was a mainstay of the studio's Little Theater. (2)
Offered Stage LeadÂ
Her performance in the second lead in “The Girl from Paris" (3) drew Broadway's attention to Miss Ball and she was offered a lead in the musical "Hey Diddle Diddle.” After satisfying her yen to perform on the Great White Way (4), she returned to Hollywood for "Stage Door” and “Too Many Girls.” In the latter picture, she was costarred with Desi Arnaz. They were married Nov. 30 1940 in Greenwich, Conn.
Back from her honeymoon, Lucille walked into her first really big break a role in "The Big Street,” based on a story by Damon Runyon (5). Overnight it made her a star.Â
Her first assignment at M.G.M. in 1942 was the title role in the Technicolor production "Du Barry Was a Lady” (6). Stellar roles followed in "Best Foot Forward” and "Meet the People" (7). After completing "Easy to Wed” with Van Johnson (8), she headed for New York to be with her husband, then out of the army and on his way to success in the orchestra business.Â
Starred on Tour
Shortly after completing "Her Husband’s Affairs,” (9) Miss Ball went on tour as star of Elmer Rice's play "Dream Girl” (10) then worked with Sonny Tufts and Victor Mature in "Interference” for R.K.O. (11)
Lucille, Desi, arid their year-old daughter Lucy Desiree, live at Desilu, their five-acre ranch at Chatsworth, Calif. They raise cattle, chickens, dogs, and cats and dabble in farming. Enthusiastic fishermen they spend a lot of time on their boat.
Desiderio Alberto Arnaz y de Acha was born in Santiago, Cuba, son of the mayor. Desi’s mother, Dolores de Acha, was considered among the 10 most beautiful women In Latin America.Â
Three ranches totaling 100,000 acres, a palatial home in the city, a private island in Santiago Bay, speedboats, a fleet of motor cars, and a racing stable were all at the command of the youthful Desi during the pre-revolutionary days. His father, after eight years as mayor of Santiago, was made a member of the Cuban congress In 1932.Â
On Aug. 12, 1933, came the revolution. Congress was dissolved. Its members jailed. The Arnaz property was confiscated, the homes burned to the ground. In 24 hours everything was gone except $500 Desi's mother had hidden. Desi and mother fled to Miami, devoted the next six months to efforts to free Papa Arnaz. from prison. They were finally reunited in Florida.
For Desi, life in these United States for several years was hard but interesting: he worked at truck driving, train yard checking, taxi driving, bookkeeping, and, of all things, bird cage cleaning. Desi’s father managed to launch an importing business. It went broke when a shipment of fruit spoiled in transit.
Show business at this point finally caught up with Desi. His first job was playing guitar and singing with a seven-piece rhumba band at Miami’s Roney-Plaza Hotel (12). Xavier Cugat (13) spotted him, was impressed with this Cuban boy who was to be dubbed "The Tempo” by critics of modem music. After a year as featured vocalist with the Cugat band, Desi organized his own group of musicians and moved into the swank La Conga CafĂ© in Miami (14).Â
George Abbott's Broadway hit "Too Many Girls” (15) was Desi’s next step up the ladder, in 1939. He played a Cuban football player, one of the leads, and played tropical drums. RKO bought the film rights and signed Desi to play his stage role. When the shooting was over Desi married the leading lady, Lucille Ball.
He spent from Feb. 1943 to Nov. 1945 in the Army, after which he toured the nation with his band playing theaters, dances, night clubs. He hasn’t been without a band since. In 1948, Desi made the Columbia film "Holiday in Havana.” (16)
He made a vaudeville tour with Lucille Ball and that convinced them they’d do well as a husband-and-wife team on television. The tour inspired the CBS-TV show “I Love Lucy,” which has been highly rated since it started. (17)
Desi Arnaz’s personality is as vibrant as the music he makes. He is friendly, direct in manner, has flashing dark brown eyes and brown hair. He’s an avid fisherman, rides and swims expertly: his tennis is the envy of his San Fernando Valley neighbors, Sue and Alan Ladd, Francis Lederer, Jackie Oakie, and the Andrews Sisters. (18) A good cook, he specializes in such tempting dishes as Ginger Beef and Bouillabaisse.

FOOTNOTES FROM THE FUTURE
(1) The photo is from “Be a Pal” (ILL S1;E2) aired on October 22, 1951, nearly two years earlier. There’s one thing missing from this file photo: Vivian Vance. The success of the show was its foursome, not threesome! If you look closely you can see the hands of the other poker players, Richard Reeves (Hank, left) and Tony Michaels (Charlie, right).
(2) Lucille did several plays at the RKO Little Theatre under the direction of Lela Rogers (above), Ginger’s mom. When Lucille later bought RKO, she dubbed it the Desilu Playhouse, a training ground for new young performers, often hand selected by Ball herself.Â
(3) “That Girl from Paris” (not “The” as the article states) was Lucille’s 33rd film. The light-hearted musical romance earned an Oscar nomination for Sound Recording. It was released on the first day of 1937.Â
(4) Lucille was indeed cast in the Broadway-bound comedy (it was not a musical, however) “Hey Diddle Diddle!” It opened in Princeton, New Jersey, the first of several out-of-town stops on the way to Broadway. What Lucille’s publicity omits is that the show never got further than Washington DC due to the serious illness of its leading man, Conway Tearle. So Lucy’s Broadway debut would have to wait - until 1960!
(5) “The Big Street” opened on September 4, 1942. It was based on a Damon Runyan short story about a night club singer (Lucille) embittered by an accident that left her in a wheelchair and her romance with a naĂŻve admirer (Henry Fonda) named Pinks. Lucy later said it was her favorite of the many films she made. It was her 55th film.Â
(6) “Du Barry Was A Lady” premiered in August 1943. It was Lucille’s 57th film, but her first for MGM. She nabbed the role from her friend Ethel Merman, who had done the Cole Porter musical comedy on Broadway. It was filmed in color, and was the film that earned her the nickname “Technicolor Tessie” because of her bright orange hair - a color she committed to from then on, despite her roots! This is the film that introduced Lucy to the song “Friendship”, which she would also sing on “I Love Lucy.”Â
(7) In the musical comedy “Best Foot Forward” (1943) Lucille Ball played herself. It was her 58th film. “Meet The People” (1944) was a romantic comedy for MGM, Ball’s 60th film.Â
(8) In 1946 she released her 63rd film, “Easy To Wed” co-starring Van Johnson and Esther Williams. Lucille and Van had appeared together in “Too Many Girls” and he would appear on Lucy’s television shows.Â
(9) “Her Husband’s Affairs” (1947) was a romantic farce with Lucy teamed with Franchot Tone. It was her 69th film.Â
(10) Back to the stage, Lucille accepted the leading role in a revival tour of “Dream Girl” a fantasy comedy by Elmer Rice. Once again, the play launched in Princeton, but this time Broadway was not the goal. It had already played the Great White Way two years earlier. The play toured the country at select cities, landing Lucille back in California in late 1947. In one SoCal gig she was appearing simultaneously with Desi and his band just a few blocks away. No doubt this was by design.Â
(11) RKO’s “Interference” was re-named “Easy Living” (1949) and dealt with the world of professional sports, namely football. It co-starred Victor Mature and Sonny Tufts. It was Ball’s 71st film.Â
(12) The luxurious Roney Plaza Hotel in Miami Beach was located on the corner of Collins Avenue and 23rd Street. It opened in 1925 and was demolished in 1968. The resort attracted a who's who that included Hollywood stars and even the Duke and Duchess of Windsor. The hotel's Bamboo Room & Restaurant was the place to be seen on the Beach for decades.
(13) Xaviar Cugat (1900-1990) was a Spanish musician and bandleader who spent his formative years in Havana, Cuba. A trained violinist and arranger, he was a leading figure in the spread of Latin music. In New York City he was the leader of the resident orchestra at the Waldorf–Astoria before and after World War II. He was a mentor and friend to Desi Arnaz, who kept his name before the public by making him a rival of Ricky Ricardo on “I Love Lucy” where his name became a punchline. In reality, Desi was grateful to Cugat, not jealous of him!Â
“I learned a lot from Xavier Cugat” ~ Desi Arnaz
(14) La Conga CafĂ© was located in New York City, not Miami, although the article may be referring to a different, lesser known establishment where Desi Arnaz performed. He became a regular headliner at La Conga, even issuing a record titled “La Conga” in 1939.Â
(15) Speaking of 1939 New York, Desi appeared in his only Broadway show in 1939, Rogers and Hart’s “Too Many Girls.” When the film rights were purchased by RKO, Desi was hired by director George Abbott to recreate his role. It was while filming this movie that he met Lucille Ball.Â
(16) “Holiday in Havana” was a Columbia picture released in October 1949. The film is about a Cuban hotel busboy (Arnaz) who dreams of becoming a composer. His love interest was not Lucy, but Mary Hatcher.Â
(17) The Tour incorporated some of the same routines seen in the “I Love Lucy” pilot as well as early episodes of the series, most notably the “Cuban Pete / Sally Sweet” duet. The tour culminated at the Roxy in New York City, where Desi was playing when he married Lucille in 1940.Â
(18) Before moving to their Beverly Hills mansion, Lucy and Desi lived on a ranch in Chatsworth in San Fernando Valley. They dubbed their ranch home Desilu. About their neighbors:Â
Alan Ladd (1913-64) was a chorus boy when Lucille was an Earl Carroll showgirl in Murder at the Vanities (1934). He was married to Sue Carol (1906-82) from 1942 until his death. Carol’s name was mentioned on “I Love Lucy” in “The Fashion Show” when Lucy selects the same Don Loper original that Carol has chosen to wear in the fashion show. She does not appear on screen.Â
Francis Lederer (1899-2000) was a Hungarian-born actor. In 1960 he did an episode of Desilu’s “The Untouchables”. From 1941 until his death he was married to Marion Irvine.Â
Jackie Oakie (1903-78) did four films with Lucille Ball between 1934 and 1938, including both “Annabell” movies.Â
The Andrews Sisters were the pre-eliminant close-harmony girl group of their time. The consisted of Patty, Maxine, and LaVerne. They were mentioned on “I Love Lucy” in “Be a Pal” in the same scene that the photo at the top of the article came from. In 1969, Patty Andrews guest-starred as herself on “Here’s Lucy”. Lucy and Lucie played the other two Andrews sisters.Â

The Hidden Gems of Miami You Can Only See by Boat
When you think of Miami, vibrant nightlife, sandy beaches, and the stunning skyline likely come to mind. But the real magic? It’s out on the water. Miami holds secrets that most people will never see—unless they experience them by boat. At Miami Ocean Tours, we specialize in showing you these hidden gems, giving you a new perspective on this iconic city. Curious to know what you’re missing? Let’s dive into the treasures that are waiting to be discovered.
One of the first places that’ll take your breath away is Biscayne Bay. Sure, you can catch glimpses of it from land, but until you’re floating on its calm waters, you haven’t truly seen it. The bay offers a peaceful escape from the city’s hustle. As you cruise along, you’ll see secluded islands, like Star Island, where some of the world’s wealthiest call home. Picture it: lush greenery, mansions that look like something out of a movie, and the tranquil sound of water lapping against your boat. It’s paradise, tucked away just minutes from downtown.
Then, there’s the famous Haulover Sandbar. This spot is a favorite among locals, and for good reason. The shallow waters are perfect for anchoring your boat and diving into a day of relaxation. You can lay back on a floating mat, toes in the water, drink in hand, while enjoying the incredible views. And guess what? You won’t find any crowds here. Unlike South Beach, the sandbar is a hidden gem that only those in the know get to enjoy. It’s Miami, but without the tourists.
Now, let’s talk about the wildlife. Miami’s marine life is just as diverse as its culture. From the comfort of your private boat, you might spot playful dolphins swimming alongside or graceful manatees gliding through the water. And if you’re up for an adventure, snorkeling in the clear waters of Biscayne Bay will bring you face to face with tropical fish and vibrant coral reefs. It’s like diving into an aquarium, but the best part? It’s all natural, all Miami.
Another spot you can only truly appreciate by boat is Millionaire’s Row. Yes, you’ve probably heard of it. You might have even seen pictures of the jaw-dropping mansions. But trust me, seeing it from the water is a completely different experience. Cruising past these estates, with their private docks and luxury yachts, gives you a glimpse into the lifestyles of Miami’s elite. It’s like a real-life episode of “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous,” and you have the best seat in the house.
So, why limit yourself to land when Miami’s best-kept secrets are floating just offshore? At Miami Ocean Tours, we provide private boat tours that take you beyond the ordinary. Whether you’re interested in history, nature, or simply soaking up the sun, we’ve got a boat tour tailored for you.
Ready to explore Miami like never before? Book your adventure today at www.miamioceantours.com and let us show you the hidden gems of this beautiful city. Trust me, the view from the water is something you’ll never forget.
