TW: Character Death, Slight Panic, Self Hatred(?) Icarus gasped as the sword pierced their body, they jerked forwards as it was yanked out of them. Centross stepped back and turned it over in his hands. "You know I didn't want to do that, Icarus. But you made me."

They fell to their knees and clutched their stomach desperately trying to stop the bleeding. "Wh.. Why?…" They coughed up blood violently.

"Don't act like you don't know. You've said it yourself, you're a failure. All you manage to do is make mistakes. I mean, you'd think you'd stumble upon the right choice at least once in your life but gods you managed to beat those odds, haven't you?" He used the tip of the blade to lift their chin so they would look at him. He smiled at them.

A sob tore itself from Icarus' throat, they couldn't speak. Their throat felt so tight it was like someone was suffocating them. They stared into his eyes, purple tendrils of corruption snaked all over his face.

"I could make it quicker. But you don't deserve that, do you?" Centross tilted his head. Icarus shook theirs. They knew they didn't. They knew they deserved a slow, painful death. He was right after all. They're just a failure. "It's okay, Icarus. You're finally helping everyone."

"..I-…" Icarus forced the word out, it was pathetic really. Pitiful even. They could barely even get their last words out.

"I'm sorry, truly. I didn't want you to hate me too, friend" Centross pushed the tip of the sword against their throat.

"I don't… hate you. You're…" Icarus swayed, their eyes fluttering closed for a moment. "still my best friend..."

Something in Centross snapped. He pulled the sword away and stepped back. "What-" He looked around, "What did I…" He looked at Icarus as they fell to the side. He dropped his sword and rushed to them but didn't dare touch them. "Ic- Icarus! Icarus, shit- shit, shit I didn't- what did I do?! I'm sorry," He carefully shook them but they didn't respond. He felt for a pulse. "Icarus?.."

Nothing.

"David?.." A quiet voice came from behind him. He turned around and saw the soul of Icarus. "It's okay," They smiled. They looked happy. Genuinely happy. "This is for the best, isn't it?"

Silly Event prison duo Headconnon times because Athena is so right with the fact that Rondael lives with his vampire gf and lighting hunter bf:

- Ajax didn't realize he liked Rondael till they were fighting in the sky with each other to see who would win.

-Rondael didn't realize that he liked Ajax till they were alone on the "chess board". When he figured out that he liked Ajax he talked to Emma about it, and she was supportive of them and also was very much like "you didn't already know, damn I thought you guys knew you were mutually pinning for each other"

-The two getting together happened this current season (10 of EOD) when the things weren't there and Ajax doesn't fully mention it to them either. But it was absolutely a really silly getting together of them both trying to make a spot but failing to get the other there till they just ask each other out in the middle of their house (Emma was just watching with a vile of blood)

- Rondael whenever he has the chance and they aren't doing anything in particular will just turn into a bat and lay on Ajax's head.

-Even tho Ajax is a vampire hunter he never eats any garlic so his blood is free for the taking, even if it's a bit electric, it's also turned into Rondael's favorite blood.

-Ajax will always make sure there is room beside them for Rondael to just be.

-Ajax fears that one day when they wake up in another event they'll never see Rondael ever again. Rondael is always quick to comfort them, and staying next to Ajax.

-Rondael as a fear that Ajax will also just disappear, knowing how their weird eye just left one day, He fears it might happen to them.

-Rondael calls Ajax his lightning or his hunter and Ajax at first didn't know how to feel about that but grew to really enjoy the names.

-Ajax calls Rondael Ron or his flame, it caught both of them off guard the first time it happened but it ended with them kissing in that moment

-Rondael gives a forehead kiss Goodnight to Ajax

-Ajax love languages are Quality time and Gift giving

-Rondael's love languages are words of "affection"(aka violence) and Quality time

(I’m not that happy with this one, and it’s pretty short, not exactly too in character, but some season 1 PrisonDuo is good for the soul /lh)

Centross was back in the Ominous bane base. He doesn’t usually stay for long, just wanting to grab some extra materials he’s *sure* Sherb must have somewhere in the underground space.

He eventually made his way towards the extra rooms they kept in the back. Sherbert insisted they had needed them “just in case”. He’d never understood the logic behind that, not until maybe Athena staying there.

As he walked through the dark hall, he paused as he noticed the Alchemists door was cracked open. There was a soft light coming from their room, a glow seemingly from their brewing stands. He creaks the door open slightly, wondering what they would be doing awake at this hour, when he actually sees the bird.

They were asleep, head resting against their arms over their alchemy notes. There were various ingredient strewn about in different pans, some differently shaped bottles set aside next to the brewing stands. He considers leaving them like that, he really does, in fact he turns around to just walk away.

He turns back, running his hands over his face with a heavy sigh before walking towards them. He observed them for a moment, their messy hair with their goggles still on, jacket discarded on the floor so their tank top is revealing their purpled skin, head resting against their arms with their nose tucked under so you could only see their closed eyes.

He picks their jacket up, folding it neatly and placing it on their desk beside their brewing stands. He takes off the jacket he’d been wearing and places it carefully over their shoulders. They relax just slightly so the jacket settles neatly over them. He smiles at them fondly for a moment, before shaking his head with a soft smile. He lightly ruffles their hair, muttering a quiet “Idiot bird” before leaving.

They woke with a start. The things waking up all around them, annoying chatting starting up as usual.

They roll their eyes and lift their head, tilting it just slightly as they register the unfamiliar weight.

They turn to find Centross’s jacket around their shoulders, short circuiting for a moment before shaking their head.

They smile just barely, muttering “That idiot.” before getting up. They glance at their jacket a moment before adjusting his over their shoulders and continuing their potion work.

They end up switching jackets before leaving the room. They can’t let anyone see that they’d kept it on, of course.

The things bully them anyway.

Next time they see him they throw it at him- “take your jacket you *idiot*” -before walking away as he laughs and pulls it on.

Maybe they smile, but nobody would ever need to know that now would they.

because of the lack of female protagonists in... pretty much every genre, really, people tend to hype up a lot of series as "better than the average [insert genre]" just because it has a female protagonist rather than male

(personally i think girls deserve formulaic schlock, too, like how bofuri is basically the average MMOVR with a black haired plain looking boy repeatedly stumbling upon cheat powers except the protagonist is a girl)

but when i look for new titles saying "i want interesting worldbuilding where we get to see how this fantasy world works as a society and the court intrigue goes beyond high school level mean girl bullying" and people respond with titles like "i'm in love with the villainess" it's like asking for a grilled steak and getting handed a hamburger

burger's good, but not what i'm looking for

so here's a list of my manga/webtoon recommendations for stories of political intrigue in fantasy worlds with a female protagonist (not all of them are isekai or regression or reincarnation, most are straight up just fantasy world):

The Holy Grail of Eris

The story of a kingdom after the villainess is executed for attempting to poison the heroine beloved by the crown prince. Our protagonist is Constance Grail who finds herself being haunted by the ghost of the villainess Scarlet Castiel who saved her from suffering the humiliation of having her engagement broken because of a false accusation.

Scarlet claims that she has been framed, and together the duo is set to find out the truth regarding her death sentence.

Saying more than this would ruin the plot twists, but read this if you're interested in a story where it makes sense for a ducal daughter to be sacrificed in exchange for a lady of a lower class as the nation's queen.

Itsuwari no Freya (localized as Prince Freya)

A small kingdom struggles to defend itself against a powerful warmongering kingdom with the leadership of their cunning prince. Except, the prince has died. To prevent the flame of hope from being extinguished, the prince's inner circle employs the aid of Freya, a village maiden with the same face as the late prince.

There is no time to prepare her to learn the ropes of politics. Now Freya must plunge immediately into international turmoil and figure out a way to secure support from other nations with the help of the prince's knights and, of course, her own charisma and intelligence.

Ebony (localized as Lady Evony)

Sensational news sweeps the nation: the Grand Duke has put a criminal under his protection. Evony was accused of her father's murder and ended up suffering all kinds of abuse in the hands of the prison wardens who despise her.

Yet her time at the women's prison was also the only time she was able to gain education in a misogynistic nation who still bars women from learning while other countries have a headmistress for their famous college and traveling tradeswomen.

As she heals from the wounds inflicted both on her body and her heart, she realizes she wants to become someone who can stand equal to the Grand Duke and not just a fragile flower to be protected in his garden.

Great if you're looking for slow burn romance where the main couple are equals instead of the usual "obsessive yandere male lead who holds to power/lovely lady who struggles to be useful" or "stupid but doting male lead who needs his very smart lady to show him the way"

Also great if you're looking for a korean webtoon where all their problems CANNOT be solved by the protagonists being wealthy capitalists

The Falcon Princess

While other webtoons tend to focus on noblewomen's tea parties as a source of conflict, The Falcon Princess focuses on a kingdom in the middle of being invaded.

The protagonist is a princess on the run when the imperial palace ends up ransacked by the enemy nation. She wakes up as a falcon and ends up finding herself as her kingdom's commander's messenger bird.

Despite the language barrier, the princess helps the commander figure out the enemy's location, strategy, and various ways to defeat them and finds herself becoming a symbol of hope who leads the army into reclaiming her nation.

EDIT: I dropped this one because as the romance progressed the quality of the story deteriorated thanks to the male lead acting jealous

JK Haru is a Sex Worker in Another World

Last but not least but is definitely the most controversial pick. Haru is a girl who gets reincarnated in another world after she got hit by a truck alongside her otaku classmate.

While said otaku is living his best life as his power fantasy becomes a reality, Haru refuses to be his girl in exchange for a comfortable life, even though the only job she could have in a misogynistic world where women can't even eat at a restaurant without a chaperone is at a brothel.

And yet, she doesn't hate it. Although the customers can be rough, she befriends the other prostitutes at the brothel and figures out how to enjoy her job. It's a story that depicts sex workers with respect, acknowledging their struggles without turning it into misery porn.

It also asks an important question regarding the trope of "overpowered isekaid protagonist changes the world for the better": CAN they actually change the world just because they have cheat powers? After all, societal issue isn't something you can solve using brute force and money alone

Reading SVSSS: Bonus- Chapter 31

For those who don't know, I am reading SVSSS for the first time and sharing my thoughts!

I am in a food coma right now, I am not going to lie. I went on a double date today that was a donut crawl part 1/2. We went to two local donut shops and sampled donuts- it was so tasty but also, SO MUCH SUGAR.

(I did read the chapter pre donut meal though with some white tea).

Left side Lady Glaze: we rated these 3/5. They were fine. But honestly not as good as they were when they opened the shop! Right side Debrodniks, much better but so sweet 4/5.

So the quote is short, it’s just-

And I shake it. I shake it around. There's so much symbolism of Icarus and the sun. Icarus and Apollo. I always make comparisons of "hey what is Icarus's sun" cause I think it's many things- not even just Fable, though in some ways it could be the sun for Icarus. The thing causing them to fall, but he's always more Daedalus coded consistently.

Icarus's sun and Icarus's ocean I feel are two very similar things. The whole the sun is what causes Icarus to drown in the first place idea, is basically what I'm getting at.

I say many words but to try to shorten it, Icarus's sun is their fathers words, the idea they were something more than they were (something *better*). Their sun was just a touch of praise and validation (something they had been starved of for so so long). At the time, with fable, it may have still been out of reach for them. But, it was attainable. And that's all that matters to Icarus, isn't it?

Basically, their sun is the idea they can fix their mistakes. The idea that they could do something right for once. The thought that they could fix their relationships with the people they cared about (who they repeatedly pushed away for a taste of sunlight)

But, that sun isn't really the sun. it was the water that swallowed them whole as they fell deeper and deeper into what they deemed as trying to fix things. Maybe it was, maybe it wasn't, they couldn't quite tell anymore. Their ocean was the thoughts that came with flying, the thoughts that drowned them in their own mind. (The thoughts that told them they were doing the right thing. Their lungs filling with salt as the things around them told them this wasn't right, told them that he was wrong.)

The water was the trust they would tell themself Fable earned. (Maybe it was wrongly placed- but who else could Icarus have believed they could place that same trust on then) That's my whole "Icarus falls for a taste of the sun, but they chose the wrong sun to believe in" idea.

So that's the sun and the water blah blah blah /lh I'm yapping too much. I say "I try to shorten it” and then yap for an hour/silly

Now to the moon symbolism. So- Rae is alwyas moon and stars coded. As it goes- void prince my beloved.

Centross I say is moon coded personally. In my heart.

So, the moon symbolism I know of and think of off the top of my head are Cycles, immortality/eternity, the soul, enlightenment but also like dark side of the moon shit. But we go with the hey it's she who guides my way through the darkest of nights type stuff-yknow. With a quick google search and clicking on the first page that came up it's all I said before also can be like realm between conscious and unconscious, capacity for reflection and adaptation, decline of life and sleep. Which- some of those are namely Icarus coded but. Yknow.

Now, Rae and Cen are Icarus's moon because they're the things guiding them. Keeping them together. Helping control the tides and the storms within them. The moon reflects the suns light in the middle of the night- helping people see. They're trying to get Icarus to see what fables actual motive is.

See the moon never stays the same. It's always changing. And that's not a bad thing. They were trying to help Icarus learn that- yet they do what they do and pick something that they've picked before (the repetitive cycle continues) and pick Fable over other people. He's not consistent, yet they don't *really* remember that. But he doesn't change. He's predictable even if just in tone and inflection, but also action. And looks and. A lot of things about Fable stay the same. Have *stayed* the same since their childhood, no matter what they do or don't remember they can grasp that.

Rae or Centross would always try to catch them. They've shown it in the past with actions and words and they've shown it at that time with fable when Rae would still try to check in on their brother and Centross would get Icarus out of their house before his death, and show up to them/check in on them after. They're there, and they try. Fable doesn't, and that's the difference.

Rae and Centross would not let Icarus go until it was life or death. Fable, was fully going to kill Icarus for power. If that's not immediately letting them fall, then I don't know what is.

This is all a stretch but. Shaking it. I'm so normal. Arararah.
