The Boys prepared as good as they possibly could for their attack on Ji Ho's grandfather to return that spell back to him. They will only see if their plan works out when they return to the mundane world. They just have one try. And no plan B.
So they quickly took a souvenir photo, packed the TukTuk and left Verdantis beyond the Veil.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile at the Headquarter of the Council at Tartosa. The Council is prepared. Ji Ho's Grandfather influenced Ji Ho in the Therapy Game so the Boys now know about the spell. And he unleashed Ji Ho's feelings, it's just a matter of time they'd try to attack. About time the little mice get caught in their trap.
Tumblr media
Principal Prescott (who was the Boys' Principal at Belgraves Institute) tensed as the monitor lit up to announce the Boys' highly anticipated arrival in the mundane world: "Here they are! *her eyes widened in surprise and then she laughed* I don't know if they are dumb, oblivious or overly confident in their measly powers!" The TukTuk brought the Boys to the Villa Elba at Tartosa - right within the range of vision of the Headquarter!
Tumblr media
Principal Prescott: "Quick now! Sebastian, Morgan - give note to the scientists and King Triton. We are starting now, before they have time to settle in and start with whatever useless nonsese they've planned!" Morgan (who has a crush on Vlad since the very beginning) and Sebastian (who is Kiyoshi's 'friend' and overseer): "Yes, Principal Prescott!" And there is also Mr Ito, Kiyoshi's father! (who lit up the pyre at Kiyoshi's execution...)
Tumblr media
Back at Villa Elba. Saiwa looked over to the Headquarter. No time to waste! Saiwa: "Ok, let's begin. We have the advantage they can't turn on the Anti Magic Devices (which had been invented by Kiyoshi's father...) since Ji Ho's Grandfather has to use his Siren's Spells. And whoever creature else they blackmailed to help them... Let's hope the Bond does not let us down." The Bond between Vlad and Ji Ho had been silent since they went beyond the Veil.
Tumblr media
Ji Ho felt awful. Teleporting makes him travel sick. He isn't sure he can resist his grandfather's powers in this state. Jeb hugged him: "We've got you." The statue next to them looks exactly as the statue of Vlad in the Therapy Game...
Tumblr media
And then they started. Vlad and Sai are shielding Jeb and Kiyoshi's minds from being influenced by Ji Ho's Grandfather's Siren's Songs while they protect Ji Ho and try to loosen that spell inside of him so Ji Ho can send it back to the initiator through the mirror.
Tumblr media
But it's too late! Ji Ho's grandfather already began to sing ö.ö Council's scientists (one of them is Felix, who was co-responsible for Sai and Jack's torture in the Lab!) started the devices.
Tumblr media
As last year at Sulani, Ji Ho stands no chance against his Grandfather. And his grandfather tells him to kill Vlad. And all the rage, the jealousy and anger of the last weeks hit Ji Ho. And Ji Ho's mind went to goo. Despite Kiyoshi and Jeb's shields. He could only think of white-red hate boiling up inside him. Yes, Vlad deserves to die for what he did to him.
Tumblr media
'King Triton', as the Council calls him, obviously also managed to take Kiyoshi and Jeb out of the game. No matter how hard Saiwa and Vlad tried to shield them. He's just too strong. Sai was the only one able to think clear, but he couldn't move! And Vlad was walking blindly towards Ji Ho - and certain death! Ji Ho is the only one able to kill Vlad - and Vlad smiled!
Tumblr media
Sai screamed and screamed but he couldn't stop Vlad. And then Vlad kissed Ji Ho. Because he knows it all ends here. No matter who wins this fight. And it doesn't matter either if he dies or lives. Life is not worth living without Ji Ho's love.
Tumblr media
The Bond awakened, thrilled to feel their arousal after all these months! And it helped Ji Ho to come back to conciousness. He draged out that spell and pushed it through the mirror!
The chamber at the Headquarter lit up and Principal Prescott smiled, pleased with their victory. Now she will finally get the recognition from the Council she deserves! But King Triton and Mr Ito knew at an instant that something went terribly wrong. Or right? They blinked.
Tumblr media
King Triton grabbed Mr Ito: "I'll make you the Queen of my Kingdom!" Mr Ito, breathless: "As you wish, my King."
Tumblr media
And then they kissed hungrily. The spell King Triton cast on his grandson returned right back to him and gave him a taste of his own medicine, as it seems! Principal Prescott was shocked. Again she failed! Luckily she didn't insist to capture this attempt to defeat those damn kids on camera again, let alone try a live broadcast! No one will ever learn about this! She has to make very sure the Scientists who witnessed this keep their mouths shut... And she doubts they are ever going to see King Triton and his 'Queen' Naoki ever again... and that is all the better.
Tumblr media
'Follow me now to a place You only dreamt of before I came along
When I first saw you, I was deep in clear blue water The sun was shining, calling me to come and see you I touched your soft skin and you jumped in with your eyes closed And a smile upon your face Você vem, você vai, você vem e cai E vem aqui pra cá porque eu quero te beijar na sua boca Que coisa louca Vem aqui pra cá porque eu quero te beijar na sua boca Ai que boca gostosa
After the rain comes sun After the sun comes rain again
Underwater Love - Smoke City
It's a relief the Boys didn't witness any of this ö.Ö' And there still seems to be something between Vlad and Ji Ho! Even without the spell! Aouwww
Tumblr media
Sai is so happy! He just hopes they get Jeb and Koyhshi out of that daze soon. And poor Vlad looks as if he's near to tears.
Tumblr media
And then the door to the kitchen opened and Jack came out - with a pizza?! Jack: "Are you done? Pizza is ready!" Sai: "Omg Jack!"
Tumblr media
Jack: "What? I never doubted you. And I'm useless in magic stuff anyway. So I did what I can do best - and that's pizza!"
Tumblr media
Saiwa sighed and they dragged helpless Jeb and Kiyoshi outside for lunch. Saiwa: "I can't believe we made it!" Jack: "Yeah, yeah - let's eat already!" And they dug in.
Tumblr media
The sun came out just after they returned that spell back to Ji Ho's grandfather and he seduced Kiyoshi's father. And a beautiful rainbow spanned the sky above the Council's Headquarter 🌈

Bay Max as a modern-day sin-eater
Sin-eating was a religious ritual practiced in various times and places, including the 17th and 18th century British countryside. The ritual was performed shortly after a person’s death. A piece of bread was placed on the body of the deceased, to absorb the sins they committed throughout their life. The bread was later eaten by a person designated to be the sin-eater. The purpose of this was to free the deceased from the burden of their own sins, so that they could go to heaven. But the burden of their evil deeds would not be lost. It would instead be transferred to the sin-eater, who would have to answer for someone else’s sins upon their death.
I can’t help but see Bay Max sacrificing Chloe as Max acting in the role of a sin-eater, consuming the many sins of the dwellers of Arcadia Bay.
I think the discussion surrounding the question if Max is responsible for the coming of the Storm misses one important fact – Max rewinding time to save Chloe from being murdered on Monday was just a last link in a long chain of events. Max only reacted to things that had been in motion for years.
The seed of the Storm is not Max’s noble instinct to save a stranger’s life. The seeds of the Storm are the sins of the dwellers of Arcadia Bay.
Mark Jefferson choosing to derive sick pleasure from the suffering of others.
Nathan Prescott choosing to become an accomplice in Jefferson’s crimes.
Nathan Prescott acquiring such a taste for Jefferson’s repulsive “art” that he chose to perform photo sessions of his own, with Rachel and Chloe as his models. Nathan choosing to attempt a photo session with Chloe even after he overdosed Rachel, clearly not bothered by the possibility of overdosing another girl.
Frank Bowers selling drugs to underage school kids. Frank selling sedatives to a teenage boy known for violent outbursts, even though anyone with half a brain would suspect he needs them to date rape someone.
Victoria Chase, witnessing something that any rational observer would deem to be a date rape in progress, but instead of putting a stop to it, choosing to laugh and record. Victoria choosing to lie that Kate got herself drunk, even though she knew Nathan “hooked up” Kate with “good shit”.
Principal Wells choosing to sweep Nathan’s violent outbursts under the rug, in exchange for bribes.
ABPD officers taking bribes from Sean Prescott to look the other way when Nathan peddled drugs at school.
Hatred, disdain for others, cruelty, callousness. Over the years, they accumulated and created a perfect storm. A storm which could be stopped. But it required two things:
Firstly, a sacrifice in the form of a girl who never chose to hurt someone else, but who often chose to hurt herself. And who was willing to choose to hurt herself that one final time. Chloe was called upon by cruel fate to serve as this sacrifice.
Secondly, a sin-eater who would accept the crushing weight of all that evil on her shoulders. Who would carry the incomprehensibly heavy burden of the sins of others for the rest of her life. Max was chosen by cruel fate to perform that task.
Should Max choose to willingly consume the sins of Arcadia Bay, the town would be spared. Nathan and Sean Prescott, Frank and principal Wells would live. Victoria, Steph and Mikey would continue their lives, without tasting the bitterness of loss. Unaware that Max is carrying on her shoulders the grief and sorrow they should be experiencing. And Max would be left wondering what could’ve been if she hadn’t taken her love and friendship back at the last moment.
Why would anyone choose to become a sin-eater? In the times and places where that ritual was practiced, was being a sin-eater a respectable calling? Where people like that appreciated for their utmost sacrifice?
No! Sin-eaters were recruited exclusively from among those most reviled by society. Almost always they were beggars, so desperate in their poverty that they were willing to damn their souls in exchange for a dirty six pence coin and a piece of bread. Because with an empty stomach now, it’s very difficult to think about what comes in the afterlife. There was no gratitude, only disdain for the sin-eaters of old. Just like there would be no gratitude for Max, who would have to suffer in silence for the rest of her days.
Why would Max trade her very soul for a dirty six pence coin? At the moment she makes her final choice, she’s already the richest person in her world. Because in her hands, she holds the greatest treasure that anyone can ever discover – love.
By going back to Monday and erasing the events of the week, Max would simultaneously:
Discard the greatest treasure – love.
Accept on her shoulders the most crushing of burdens – the sins of other people.
Why would anyone choose such a fate?
I know that the theme of innocents suffering to expiate the sins of others is present in many cultures. We are conditioned to see it as something noble. But I can’t see it that way.
If I did something truly evil, something deserving of a punishment, the last thing I would want would be for someone innocent to suffer that punishment for me. That wouldn’t wash away my sin. It would make it much, much worse. My guilty conscience wouldn’t be relieved. It would torment me twice as hard. There’s a saying attributed to emperor Justinian the Great, that it is better for someone guilty to walk free than for someone innocent to be punished. The thought of someone innocent being punished for the sins of others offends my sense of right and wrong on a fundamental level.
I find nothing noble or heroic about two teenage girls being punished for the evil of others. The mere thought of it I find revolting.

Principal Well’s is an interesting character because he’s both a victim and a preparator of a shitty system designed to help no one but the rich.
Despite Nathan’s long and documented history of erratic behavior on school grounds, Wells is quick to dismiss Max’s allegation against him. Not because he has any reason to think it didn’t happen, but because the Prescott family is a donor to the school, and punishing Nathan for waving a gun around would mean kissing that money goodbye.
There is unfortunately nuance to the situation. Due to the “joys” of capitalism, Blackwell does need that donation money to stay afloat. They’re a private institution, and are already having money problems even with the cash the Prescott's are giving them. That mean’s Well’s is in a situation where he has to choose between rightfully disciplining Nathan, or very possibly having to shut down the entire school, which would not just affect him but also the student’s and faculty.
HOWEVER, Well’s isn’t just the victim of a bad system that is designed to let rich people get away with terrible things. He’s also complicate in it.
More Undercut
The second Max makes a very concerning allegation he dismisses it and reminds her of how much the Prescott's donate to the school. Then when Max approach's him a day later, he dismisses her before she even gets the chance to speak. THEN, he fully throws his weight behind Nathan by saying he “doesn’t blame” him for being upset that Max had the “nerve” to let an authority figure know that someone dangerous was on campus. THEN, he has the nerve to insinuate that Max is being overdramatic by saying she’s scared, and he likely insinuates that because he’s worried about Blackwell’s reputation rather than Max’s feelings.
Well’s is a really interesting character. He’s a man who has turned to alcohol to deal the stress of trying to keep his school afloat while also admitting that he has a weakness for prestige. He hires famous people like Mark Jefferson, get’s the best possible equipment for his school, and decorates his office with luxury, but all of that just makes him more dependent on his corrupt donor’s. He’s an interesting depiction of capitalism and how people are both played and play into the system, and as always I think LIS portrays this topic really well!

Social Network Analysis: Nathan Prescott in Life is Strange
Nathan Prescott is a complex and troubled character. His relationships and interactions with other characters play a crucial role in shaping both his own arc and the overall narrative of the game. This analysis aims to provide a detailed examination of Nathan's connections, analyzing the nature and quality of each relationship, and exploring how these relationships influence his actions and decisions.
Throughout the game, Nathan's behavior is deeply influenced by his mental health issues, family pressures, and the manipulative influence of Mark Jefferson. His interactions range from hostile confrontations to moments of vulnerability, painting a picture of a young man struggling with his identity and place in the world.
Mapping Nathan's Connections
To begin our analysis, let's map out Nathan's key relationships in Life is Strange:
1. Sean Prescott (Father)
2. Mark Jefferson (Teacher/Manipulator)
3. Victoria Chase (Close Friend)
4. Chloe Price (Antagonist/Victim)
5. Max Caulfield (Protagonist/Antagonist)
6. Rachel Amber (Victim)
7. Frank Bowers (Drug Dealer)
8. Kate Marsh (Victim)
9. David Madsen (Authority Figure)
10. Principal Wells (Authority Figure)
Now, let's delve into each of these relationships in detail, analyzing their nature, quality, and impact on Nathan's actions and decisions.
Detailed Analysis of Nathan's Relationships
1. Sean Prescott (Father)
Nature of Relationship: Familial, Authoritarian
Quality: Strained, Pressure-filled
Nathan's relationship with his father, Sean Prescott, is perhaps the most influential and problematic connection in his life. Sean is a powerful and wealthy businessman who exerts immense pressure on Nathan to uphold the Prescott family legacy. This relationship is characterized by:
- High expectations and constant pressure to succeed
- Emotional distance and lack of genuine support
- Financial control used as a means of manipulation
- Possible emotional and psychological abuse
The impact of this relationship on Nathan is profound:
- It contributes significantly to Nathan's mental health issues, including anxiety and possible personality disorders
- Fuels Nathan's desire for power and control, often manifested in bullying behavior
- Creates a deep-seated fear of failure and disappointment
- Drives Nathan to seek approval and validation from other authority figures
Nathan's actions throughout the game, including his involvement with Jefferson and his aggressive behavior towards others, can be seen as attempts to gain control and assert his identity in response to his father's overwhelming influence.
2. Mark Jefferson (Teacher/Manipulator)
Nature of Relationship: Mentor/Manipulator, Accomplice
Quality: Toxic, Exploitative
Mark Jefferson, Nathan's photography teacher, presents himself as a mentor figure but is, in reality, a dangerous predator who manipulates Nathan for his own nefarious purposes. This relationship is characterized by:
- False sense of mentorship and guidance
- Exploitation of Nathan's vulnerability and desire for approval
- Complicity in criminal activities (drugging and photographing young women)
- Manipulation of Nathan's mental instability
The impact of this relationship on Nathan is severe:
- Deepens Nathan's involvement in criminal activities
- Exacerbates his mental health issues
- Provides a false sense of purpose and importance
- Ultimately leads to Nathan's downfall and arrest(or death)
Jefferson's influence on Nathan is a dark mirror of his relationship with his father - both men use Nathan for their own purposes, disregarding his well-being and exploiting his vulnerabilities.
3. Victoria Chase (Close Friend)
Nature of Relationship: Friendship, Peer Alliance
Quality: Supportive but Potentially Toxic
Victoria Chase is perhaps Nathan's closest friend at Blackwell Academy. Their relationship is complex, marked by mutual support but also by shared negative behaviors. Key aspects include:
- Shared social status and participation in the Vortex Club
- Mutual support and protection within the school's social hierarchy
- Enabling of each other's bullying behaviors
The impact of this relationship on Nathan:
- Provides a sense of belonging and acceptance
- Reinforces his elitist and bullying tendencies
- Offers emotional support, albeit in a potentially unhealthy manner
- Serves as a connection to "normal" teenage life
While Victoria is one of the few people who seems to genuinely care for Nathan, their relationship also reinforces some of his more problematic behaviors.
4. Chloe Price (Antagonist/Victim)
Nature of Relationship: Antagonistic, Victim/Perpetrator
Quality: Hostile, Violent
Nathan's relationship with Chloe Price is fraught with tension and violence. Key aspects include:
- History of drug dealing (Nathan as supplier)
- Attempted assault (Nathan drugging Chloe)
- Violent confrontations
- Murder (Nathan killing Chloe in one timeline)
The impact of this relationship on Nathan:
- Escalates his violent tendencies
- Increases his paranoia and instability
- Leads to one of his most extreme actions (murder)
- Serves as a catalyst for the game's main events
Nathan's interactions with Chloe represent some of his most violent and uncontrolled moments, highlighting the extent of his mental instability and the dangerous influence of Jefferson.
5. Max Caulfield (Protagonist/Antagonist)
Nature of Relationship: Antagonistic, Investigative
Quality: Hostile, Potentially Redemptive
Max, as the game's protagonist, has a complex relationship with Nathan. Initially antagonistic, their interactions can potentially lead to a moment of vulnerability for Nathan. Key aspects include:
- Initial hostility and threats from Nathan
- Max's investigation into Nathan's activities
- Potential moment of confession and vulnerability (depending on player choices)
The impact of this relationship on Nathan:
- Increases his paranoia and defensive behaviors
- Potentially provides a moment of catharsis and confession
- Indirectly leads to the unraveling of his criminal activities
Max's role in Nathan's story is crucial, as she has the potential to either further antagonize him or provide a moment of potential redemption.
6. Rachel Amber (Victim)
Nature of Relationship: Victim/Perpetrator
Quality: Tragic, Pivotal
While Rachel Amber is missing for the majority of the game, her connection to Nathan is central to the plot. Key aspects include:
- Nathan's involvement in Rachel's disappearance and death
- His guilt and mental anguish over the incident
- The catalyst for the game's central mystery
The impact of this relationship on Nathan:
- Deepens his mental health crisis
- Increases his dependence on Jefferson
- Fuels his paranoia and erratic behavior
- Serves as a source of deep-seated guilt and trauma
Rachel's death represents the darkest consequence of Nathan's actions and his manipulation by Jefferson.
7. Frank Bowers (Drug Dealer)
Nature of Relationship: Criminal Association
Quality: Transactional, Potentially Threatening
Frank Bowers, the local drug dealer, has a business relationship with Nathan. Key aspects include:
- Drug purchases and distribution
- Potential blackmail or threats (Frank knows about Nathan's activities)
- Shared connection to Rachel Amber
The impact of this relationship on Nathan:
- Facilitates his drug use and distribution
- Adds another layer of criminal activity to his life
- Represents a potential threat if Frank decides to reveal information
While not as central as some other relationships, Nathan's connection to Frank adds to the web of criminal activity surrounding him and represents another potential source of exposure.
8. Kate Marsh (Victim)
Nature of Relationship: Bully/Victim
Quality: Abusive, Guilt-inducing
Kate Marsh is one of the students victimized by Nathan and Jefferson's scheme. Key aspects include:
- Nathan's role in drugging Kate
- His participation in her bullying and public shaming
- Potential guilt over his actions
The impact of this relationship on Nathan:
- Demonstrates the extent of his involvement in Jefferson's crimes
- May contribute to his increasing mental instability and guilt
- Represents another potential exposure of his criminal activities
Nathan's treatment of Kate is one of the clearest examples of how his own victimization (by Jefferson) leads him to victimize others.
9. David Madsen (Authority Figure)
Nature of Relationship: Antagonistic, Investigative
Quality: Hostile, Threatening
David Madsen, Blackwell's head of security, represents a threat to Nathan's activities. Key aspects include:
- David's suspicion and investigation of Nathan
- Nathan's fear and hostility towards David
- Potential confrontations between the two
The impact of this relationship on Nathan:
- Increases his paranoia and defensive behaviors
- Represents a constant threat of exposure
- May contribute to his escalating erratic behavior
David's presence serves as a constant source of stress for Nathan, adding to his already fragile mental state.
10. Principal Wells (Authority Figure)
Nature of Relationship: Authority Figure, Potentially Complicit
Quality: Complex, Influenced by Prescott Power
Principal Wells has a complex relationship with Nathan, influenced heavily by the Prescott family's power over Blackwell Academy. Key aspects include:
- Wells' reluctance to discipline Nathan due to his family's influence
- Nathan's sense of immunity due to this protection
- Potential guilt or conflict on Wells' part
The impact of this relationship on Nathan:
- Reinforces his sense of being above the rules
- Potentially enables his continued negative behavior
- Reflects the broader theme of corruption and power in the game
This relationship demonstrates how Nathan's family influence extends beyond his personal life, affecting his entire environment and contributing to his sense of invulnerability.
Conclusion
Nathan Prescott's social network in Life is Strange is a complex web of toxic influences, manipulative relationships, and missed opportunities for genuine connection. His actions and decisions throughout the game are deeply influenced by these relationships, particularly:
1. The overwhelming pressure from his father, driving his need for control and validation.
2. The manipulative influence of Mark Jefferson, exploiting Nathan's vulnerabilities for criminal purposes.
3. The enabling friendship with Victoria Chase, which provides support but also reinforces negative behaviors.
4. The antagonistic relationships with characters like Chloe and Max, which escalate his paranoia and erratic behavior.
These relationships create a perfect storm of negative influences, exacerbating Nathan's mental health issues and driving him towards increasingly destructive behavior. The tragedy of Nathan's character lies in the fact that he is both a perpetrator of horrible acts and a victim of manipulation and abuse.
Understanding Nathan's social network provides crucial insight into his character, the events of the game, and the broader themes of power, influence, and the consequences of unchecked mental health issues. It also highlights the game's nuanced approach to morality, showing how complex and intertwined the relationships between victims and perpetrators can be.
Ultimately, Nathan's story serves as a cautionary tale about the dangers of toxic relationships, unchecked privilege, and the failure of support systems for troubled youth. His social network is a key element in understanding not just his character, but the entire narrative and thematic structure of Life is Strange.

Unfortunately, Stella may have been a bit too preoccupied with her extra credit work and missed the bell ringing. Rushing through the halls to her next class, she bumped right into the principal who lectured her on sight!
Stella: Ms. Prescott, please! I would never skip class - and I can’t go to detention! I have work tonight! Please, please, please-
Ms. Prescott: Alright! Just get to class and don’t let me catch you in these halls again. Is that clear?
Stella: Yes! Very clear!
She knew better than to stay around after that, turning on her heel and speed walking to her classroom.

A Miracle I Chose Not to Perform - a LiS fan poem
On a surprisingly sunny and warm day in October
a genuine miracle was about to happen
In spite of the consequences of their actions
(and fitting conclusions to their character arcs)
emerging from the ocean and coming their way
the following wonderful people would be spared:
A promising young artist would be allowed
to keep making his haunting works
after just a brief three year stay
in an institution run by those
who clearly fail to comprehend
that in pursuit of real art
sacrifices must be made
Some shallow graves simply need to be filled
with whores
I mean sluts
I mean models
if truth and beauty are to be discovered
An ambitious businessman would be allowed to keep
the spirit of entrepreneurship alive
by selling his intoxicatingly enticing wares
to the most challenging customers of all – schoolchildren
And I’m sure that such a nice, hard-working man
would soon find a new, suitably young match
to replace the one he killed with his product
One that would understand
that after a hard day’s work
(and tasting his own stash)
a “man” has the right to explode into a blind rage
A devoted school principal and brave boys in blue
would be allowed to keep supplementing their incomes
(which are absolutely inadequate, when you factor in how much they care about the people they teach, protect and serve)
with envelopes coming from
a pillar of local community
for keeping the young artist’s career
under wraps
A valued member of the student body
would be allowed to teach
many a more stuck-up prudes
a lesson using her phone camera
having never been made aware
that other people have feelings too
All those wonderfully revolting things
would be allowed to happen
for a low tall Price
of just one murdered girl
What is the murder of a single girl
if it allows the putrid entrails
of a scenic Oregon town
to keep on churning
An irrationally angry girl
who had the audacity to confront
the boy who'd merely roofied her
Big deal!
He only wanted to
do something beautiful to her
and he would have
had she not unceremoniously fled
while she was still alive
How rude!
But you can’t expect class
from a scholarship kid in tattered clothes
Forgive my sarcasm dripping from the page
I will now speak plainly
The miracle described above I chose not to perform
I decided that just this once
friendship
should carry more weight
than the cruelty of evildoers
One ghoul pierced her heart
with a bullet-tipped spear
Another placed a red crown of thorns
on her forehead
Conquering her fear she didn’t cry
„Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani”
No, instead she handed me
the final nail
and begged me to hammer it
so that others might live while she would die
But despite her bravery
in the face of oblivion
(or perhaps because of it)
a blue-winged seraph was sent down
to defend her life
Nobody would miss her
the promising artist said
and if I had let her cross be raised
I would’ve proven him right
Nothing ever is worth someone
being murdered
Nothing ever is worth someone
dying alone, abandoned, hopeless and afraid
And for that reason
unlike two millennia ago in Palestine
expiation was denied
to those who required it the most
but deserved it not
I made sure of that
by pulling the would-be Christ of Arcadia Bay
down from her cross
Even though two nails
had already been driven
her hands, feet, heart and brow
bear no holes
My supposed crime is digging out of her heart
a bullet fired by
the promising artist
Shouldn’t the fault lie with the one
who aimed the gun and pulled the trigger?
I never claimed to be a hero
and if saving a friend's life is a sin
then I’m the greatest sinner
(and unrepentant one at that)
Once you cut out all hope
from your own friend’s heart
and you nail their body to a cross
once you’re smiling over their coffin
bloody knife and hammer in your hands
once you selfishly reduce
the light of their life
to a memory locked away
in your brain
then you can judge me
But know that
I don’t care about the verdicts
of ghouls
Isn’t it written
that whoever saves a life
is considered to have saved
the whole world?
So by digging the bullet out of her heart
I saved her world
my world
our world
the world
She was the Price to be paid
for sparing Arcadia Bay
from its fate
I refused that bargain
because who in their right mind
would pay with the world
for a town?
All the fine people described at the begininng
casual in their cruelty
banal in their evil
learnt an important lesson
(and for some of them it was their last):
sometimes hatred and disdain sown
become a Storm reaped
So on an unsurprisingly cold and stormy day in October
the miracle turned out to be
how such a tiny town could've fit
so much cruelty
before it burst at the seams
and that the seeds of the Storm
sown by its dwellers every day
took that long to yield crop
