Character analyzing Prince Bully because I want to do that

With their species introduced in Super Maro 64, and its remake Super Mario 64 DS, the Bullies have instantly established themselves to have a daredevil type of culture. Their way of winning by pushing their opponents off their arenas and into a fiery end is like a very fatal form of sumo wrestling.

With only feet to walk with, their horns held high, and a permanent frown, they’re a very headstrong species with a size that’s just the right amount of cute when fighting alone, but become very bothersome pests when they gang up. You know, like actual bullies.

It would only make sense that the potential royalty of this kind of culture would be just like them, only more sophisticated.

The Bullies reappeared years later in Super Mario 3D World, sporting a redesign I’ve got thoughts on unrelated to this post. Nonetheless, their tough helmets, frowns, and horns rearing forward still speaks to their way of charging straight at their foes to push them off.

Along with the reappearance of the Bullies, we also have Prince Bully, the royalty commanding the Bullies allied with Bowser. Different than the blue-shelled Bullies, Prince Bully’s got a shinier silver helmet and a plume embedded on it. Plumes are usually placed on helmets for identification of rank or to intimidate the opponent, so it would make sense that a prince of those species would wear a plume for both reasons.

When fighting Prince Bully, he actually starts off with a warcry before attacking. This is not someone that just charges randomly; he actually has an honor reason prior to engaging with their enemy. Of course the player can always interrupt Prince Bully before he can finish his ritual; take any chance you can get, but please keep what he’s doing in mind if you want to exploit or respect him.

In the player’s rematch with Prince Bully, he’s retrofitted his shoes and plume to be blue now to accommodate his new strategy of shooting three blue flames from his mouth. He dresses for the occasion, he adapts, but he still performs his warcry since that’s still important for him to do regardless if he has to change his strategies or not. This is very much indicative of him being too tied to his culture, regardless if it gives his enemy the advantage or not. Quite respectful of him

But it’s a flaw of him regardless. And judging by his pretty young voice in his warcry, you could also give off the image that he’s inexperienced or too naive to assume that all of his enemies would give him the chance to finish. That’s another side of that interpretation.

You can only guess if his parents are more ruthless in fighting or if they raised Prince Bully with this honor in mind.

Motive

Some of the royalty allied with Bowser sometimes have their reasons for joining Bowser.

King Bob-omb was fighting his own war against the Bob-omb Buddies, the reason for this war can be layered on with a lot of theory sauce. Being allied with Bowser gave the king a Power Star which gave him quite the advantage in power

The Whomp King felt vengeful towards every stone out there. Stones were stepped on, to create homes, and they were never thanked for it. He believed allying himself with Bowser would help with his retribution towards anyone who would misuse stone.

And hell, the King and Queen Hisstocrat love eachother (look at how they react when one of them is hurt) and you’ve only seen other Hisstocrats in context of serving the royalty dinner plates. It’s easy to theorize they were convinced to join Bowser for more food.

Looking at Prince Bully’s character, and all the other Bullies under him, they would definitely join to support the biggest bully of all: Bowser. Taking over territories, pushing people around. Prince Bully would definitely respect someone who so perfectly represents their culture on such a grand scale.

Conclusion

i don't even like Prince Bully all that much, but i wanted to note how you can character analyze a nonverbal character purely based on their animations and appearance. i like doing that in the spaces i frequent but haha they're currently talking about how Bones inside a Body aren't Bones

i also once made a "Classic Prince Bully" design. i wanted to exaggerate his headstrong attitude by further extending his plume.

it would be pretty funny to make Prince Bully a fan-favorite by developing him in further games with the personality traits he's got right now. an angry young boy too tied in tradition. imagine the amount of perspectives that a Mario story tied around tradition would bring. there's a lot of royalty in that universe, after all...

I love how holly black took the ‘brooding and mysterious love interest who is a jerk but is secretly in love with the mc” and instead of making a charismatic asshole with a six pack she made a pathetic loser boy who is drunk all the time, can’t fight, and wants nothing to do with the main plot.

Realizing Laurent is actively trying to make Damen hate him in the beginning of KR because he thinks his feelings are unrequited and so is trying to push him away because he thinks no one could ever truly love him and it'll hurt less if Damen just hates him instead of having to face that not only has he caught feelings for the man that killed his brother but that the first and only man he's had a tender and loving consensual sexual encounter with (he thinks) has no true feelings for him and only wanted him for sex meanwhile Laurent has completely fallen for this guy who has every reason to hate him and who he also logically should hate but he DOESN'T because for some reason Damen continuously and infuriatingly insists on being there for him anyway no matter how hard Laurent tries to bully him.

Despite what people complain and snark about, Bruce does in fact have contingency plans for pretty much everything. And while he doesn’t have an exact contingency for Jason apparently accidentally kidnapping the apparently prince of the Realms- some infinite space where the dead resided according to Zatanna and Constantine, he’ll have an existential crisis about it later thanks- he did have one for his kids accidentally kidnapping someone. 

He just doesn’t think that exact plan will work in this case, seeing as that plan had to do with civilians and not very large kings that could obliterate the entire world with a hand wave, nevermind the fact that they have so many armies. Not to mention what is apparently both the king’s second-in-command and brother. 

Well, if none of his usual contingencies won’t work and Constantine’s attempts at making a deal isn’t working, nor is the other’s attempts to talk the two down, then it’s plan Z time. Seduction it is.

I’m going to preface this post by saying I don’t give a flying fuck about the hate I’m going to receive for the opinion I will be sharing and I won’t bother replying to any comments attacking me for it.

I fucking LOVE that Aemond killed Luke and I wish it wasn’t accidental. I wish Luke’s death was full on intentional, lol.

As a victim of bullying, I’ve been in situations where I have had to fend off 20+ kids as a kid myself. I’ve been verbally, physically, emotionally and psychologically assaulted as a child by other children, simply because I wanted, strived for and had good grades in school, actions that did not affect any of my classmates in the slightest. Therefore, I absolutely sympathise with Aemond, whose lack of dragon and later on his acquisition of one hurt no one (dragons belong to no one, you snooze you lose), yet he still got ridiculed and attacked for it. Yes, Aegon was also a bully and I hate him for it, but ultimately he grows out of it and supports his family, unlike the Strong bastards who remain bullies and assaulters. Oh, and Aemond tried to hit Jace with a rock because he attacked him first. Accusing him for standing up for himself is victim blaming. People who defend the Strong boys are bullies and that’s final.

No, I don’t give a rat’s ass that his attackers were children. Aemond was a child, too, and they ganked him 4v1. It’s crazy how some of y’all support physically attacking someone because you don’t agree with them. It was satisfying to see him kick their teeth in. Aemond and Luke are only 2 years apart, even if the actors’ appearances suggest otherwise. Your age does not excuse you being a fucking piece of shit. Children and teenagers appear on the news daily as rapists, killers, assaulters and all kind of criminals. That’s the reason juvie exists. Children should face the consequences of their actions.

“Are you excusing child murder?” if it is by the hand of the child they unapologetically disabled, fuck yeah. Besides, at the end of the day, Aemond dies, too, so you could say justice is served.

Still, I would have given the Strong boy the benefit of the doubt if it weren’t for this scene:

Lucerys is laughing at Aemond.

He is looking him in the eye and he is laughing at him. It’s been 6 fucking years. Lucerys is 17 (confirmed by the writers) and he feels no remorse for what he did. He was not punished for his action, so he has learned nothing.

He feels safe to mock Aemond, in the comfort and safety of his grandfather’s house, where his guard and stepdad can stop Aemond, whom he cannot beat on his own, from bashing his head against the wall. He feels safe to attack Aemond when he calls him Strong, knowing that other people will finish the fight he started but can’t win.

But what happens when no one is around to protect him from the consequences of his own actions? He shits himself. His face falls, he stumbles backwards and does not object to Aemond calling him Strong.

Not laughing now, huh, you little shit stain?

"Prince" and the frog AU

Sebastian sat down on the twisted old root of a tall tree. It stood close to a small water stream that flowed with so little fuss it couldn’t even be called a river.

There lived a tiny swamp creature he fondly baptized as Frog, even though one could argue it was in fact a toad. A brown, bumpy, and bored looking one at that.

“Hey frog, how’s it going?”

“Bwoah.” The toad croaked its usual response.

Sebastian was expecting it. The reason he went out of his way to visit the rendezvous spot every day was because he weirdly felt like the amphibian could understand him. Every time, the frog would croak back at whatever Seb told him, like there was a proper conversation between them.

He sighed. Probably wasn’t something to brag about, given how he struggled to talk to actual people without coming off as a massive weirdo. Heck, he was chatting with a frog, so maybe the judgement of his high school peers wasn’t completely off base. 

“That’s good.” Seb stretched his legs. “At least one of us is having a good time.”

“Bwoah.” Came the usual answer.

“Oh it’s not much.” Sebastian continued. He cared little for how nonsensical the interaction was, especially now that it’d become a habit. “It’s just that the girl I like laughed when I gave her a Valentine’s postcard.”

“Bwoah.”

Seb couldn’t say he didn’t do his best to get people laughing, but the memory of Gina’s was a tad cruel. She didn’t find him funny in a charming, whimsical way. Rather, she made it abundantly clear she thought he was delusional.

“I guess she’s cool, and pretty, and I’m… me. A geek.” He shrugged, settled with the facts. “Of course she’d laugh, can you imagine?”

“Bwoah.”

“Girls don’t like class clowns like me. I mean, look at me. I’m talking to a frog.”

“Bwoah.”

Blue eyes fell on leathery brown skin, amused. Had Frog been a cute puppy, maybe he could have gotten some positive attention, but as it was, even his choice of animal companion would send the girls running.

…Then again, there were a few fairy tales that treated frogs favorably.

“Unless, you know…” He contemplated. “I kiss you and you turn into a princess.”

“Bwoah!”

The loud croak made Sebastian laugh out loud. He knew it was stupid to give animals human attributes and imagine they felt real outrage, but sometimes the frog was so much like a person it was easy to forget it wasn’t a rational being.

“You’re right. Who would want to kiss something as gross and pimply as me.”

“🐸” It stayed silent this time.

“You won’t mind, then?” Seb leaned down to give the frog a gentle scratch with his finger. “If one of these days I get desperate enough, I might try my luck and give you a smooch.”

He had no intentions to, of course.

Little did Sebastian know that words could be prophetic.
