6 easy calm-down activities for preschoolers
We all know that preschoolers can be full of energy and sometimes get easily overwhelmed or upset. It can be challenging to help young children navigate their emotions, but teaching them how to calm themselves down is an important skill that can benefit them for a lifetime.
Luckily, there are many easy and effective calm activities that can help preschoolers regulate their emotions and feel more in control. In this blog, we will explore 6 easy calm-down activities for preschoolers suggested by CSD Sahara Global Academy that can be practiced at home or in a classroom setting. These calm activities are simple and fun and can help children learn to manage their emotions in a healthy way.
Here are the 6 Easy Calm Down Activities for Preschoolers
1. Deep Breathing
This is one of the calm activities that can be practiced starting from a very young age. Taking deep breaths is a simple but effective way to calm down. Encourage your preschooler to take deep breaths in through their nose and out through their mouth, and count to three with each inhale and exhale.
2. Blow Bubbles
This is one of the many calm activities that children love. Blowing bubbles can be a fun way to encourage deep breathing and help preschoolers relax. You can even add some lavender essential oil to the bubble solution for a calming aroma. This can be one of the daily fun activities for preschoolers.
3. Progressive Muscle Relaxation
This activity involves tensing and then relaxing each muscle group in the body, starting with the toes and working up to the head. Encourage your preschooler to tense their muscles for a few seconds and then relax them. Many parents consider this to be a great way to keep their younger ones fit and include this among other calm activities.
4. Sensory Bottles
One of the calm activities that can be a great tool for calming down is playing with sensory bottles. Fill a plastic bottle with water, glitter, and small objects like beads or sequins, and let your preschooler shake the bottle and watch the glitter fall.
5. Yoga
Yoga is a great way to promote relaxation and mindfulness. Yoga is a centuries-old practice that has been found to have many benefits for both physical and mental health. It is known to be one of the best activities for kids and can be incorporated as a part of their calm-down time. Child-friendly yoga poses can be simple, fun, and easy to learn and can be practiced at home or in a classroom setting. Practicing yoga can help preschoolers learn to listen to their bodies and become more in tune with their physical and emotional needs. Look up some child-friendly yoga poses and practice them with your preschooler.
6. Listen Music
Music can have a calming effect on the mind and body. Put on some calming music and encourage your preschooler to listen and relax. Calming music can help to slow down a child’s breathing and heart rate, promoting a sense of peace and relaxation. Additionally, music can stimulate the brain and promote creativity and imagination, which can be beneficial for preschoolers’ development. Many parents consider this to be one of the best activities for preschoolers and make it a part of their everyday routine.
These activities can be done at home or in a classroom setting and are designed to be simple, fun, and effective. At cbse school in lucknow, like CSD Sahara Global Academy we believe that every child should be given holistic development. Our curriculum emphasizes mindful learning that helps manage emotions, develop self-regulation and improve concentration through self-awareness. With patience, consistency, and practice, preschoolers can develop strong emotional regulation skills that will benefit them for years to come.

i love how in the first two seasons of doctor who, Mickey Smith, regular human guy who i am led to believe works as a car mechanic, has absolutely unparalleled hacking skills just whenever the plot requires it. first time it happened it was bc the doctor gave him the top secret UNIT password that lets any random dickhead with a laptop fire a missile out of a submarine directly at london. but all on his own he's casually clicked his way into high security military databases at least twice since then. if you were a character on a tv show in the 2000s, just knowing how to turn a computer on was enough to give you hacker superpowers.
#dw#what do you mean 'mickey the idiot'. can you keep it down back there he's trying to hack army records of ufo activity#i remember 2006 and the computer for me was a magical portal that allowed me to very slowly load neopets webpages#i am taking the implications of this plot contrivance 100% seriously btw#mickey is a computer programming prodigy and nobody realises it#bc he only hangs out with his girlfriend and his girlfriend's mum (don't know enough about computers to realise this is impressive)#and his girlfriend's weird alien boyfriend (probably used to hack high security websites as a prank in preschool)#jack has spent enough time in the 21st century that he MIGHT have the context to realise mickey's unusually good with computers#but it just never came up when they were hanging out :/

this is sort of pathetic, but when you were younger, you were sort of puzzled by the cartoon representations of fathers: how a kid would be outside with a mitt, waiting to play catch.
it's not that your father never played catch with you, but you also didn't like when he did. something about a hard ball coming quickly towards your face doesn't seem exciting. not that you'd ever say you don't trust him. you trust him, right?
it's not like he never tried to teach you anything. or never tried to parent. on rare days, a strange person would walk in your father's skin. bright, happy, magnificent. this version of your father was so cheerful and charismatic that you would do anything to keep him. and this is the version of your father that would laugh and gently coax you try again. this is the version of your father that would break down the small elements of a problem and point them out so you have an easier time with them.
as a kid, those days happened more often. but somewhere around 11, you started being too much of a person, and he was often cross about it. when he'd try to sit you down to learn something, you spent the whole time with your shoulders around your ears, nervous, uncertain. terrified because you didn't immediately understand how to navigate something. worried you will run out of his goodwill and then you will have the Other Father back, and you will have ruined a good day for your entire family. something about you being visibly afraid - it just made him angry. he would accuse you of not wanting to learn and storm away.
on tv, it's not like there's a lot of versions of men-who-are-mostly-fathers. they can be good dads, but usually their stories are not told in the household. so it's normal that your father is there, but he's never around. you know he was in the house, somewhere, it's just not that you guys ever... "hung out". he just seemed to get kind of bored of you, annoyed you weren't made in his perfect image. frustrated with how much energy it took to raise a kid. over time, you kind of adopt a bittersweet band around your throat - he knows nothing about me. he says at least i never abandoned my family.
and it's technically - technically - true. he was there for you. sometimes he even made an effort and made it to the big moments; the graduations and the dance recitals. he grins and tells everyone that he taught you. it almost erases the days in between, where he complains because you need a ride to school. the weeks that go by where he doesn't actually ever speak to you. the times you say i am struggling and he says figure it out on your own. i can't help you.
and that's fine! that's all fine. you can call him if you are having a problem with your car. or if you need a ride to the hospital. he loves playing hero, he just doesn't like the actual work that comes with being a father. and you've kind of made your peace with that; because you had to, because you don't want to live your life like he does; the whole world at a managed distance, a little rotating and controlled orb he can witness and take credit for but never truly love.
as an adult, you are rewatching some dumb cartoon - and again, the child standing in the rain, with a mitt, waiting for their father to come play catch. as an adult, there's this strange creeping dread - this little thing? this little thing, and their dad can't even show up for that? oh god, holyshit, it's not about the mitt, is it. oh god, holyshit, your father spent most of your life leaving you hanging.
#spilled ink#writeblr#:) lol . anybody notice how i write about dads in second person exclusively#me: haha silly cartoon#also me: ): this child is not getting what they need#also btw this is about a father but it might apply to any parent or caregiver#there's a really weird space of like#''this person was technically around me but either ignored me or was actively harmful to me''#and like u learn this very strange ritual of like... this person is my parent/caregiver on a technicality#that you almost spend all ur time with them like... tiptoeing and acting as THEIR parent so u don't upset them.#like you're 17 and ur mom is suddenly hit by a wave of wanting to talk to you so she's like :) lets make breakfast together :) and ur like#uhhhhhh okay?? bc you feel like this is absolutely going to go wrong and is why u usually make breakfast alone#and she starts being like: THIS is called a TEASPOON ... & u know all this stuff but you also know to just be very quiet#bc if you say like ''mom ive been making this breakfast every day since i was 13'' she would FREAK OUT and be like#DONT ACT LIKE I NEVER DO ANYTHING FOR YOU DONT ACT LIKE I DONT CARE ABOUT YOU. FUCKING DISRESPECTFUL .#so u have to smile like ur a preschool teacher and be like. OH COOL! i didn't know A CUP existed! tell me MORE! :)

Toddler - Numbered Peg Boards
Look at that focus! The Numbered Peg Boards help toddlers develop fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination as they grasp and place the pegs into the holes. The numbered pegs introduce early math concepts, such as one-to-one correspondence, counting, and number recognition. Additionally, independence and self-confidence are fostered as students complete this work on their own, all while promoting cognitive and physical development.

The post that goes "maybe it seems pretentious to you because you only watch bluey," but this time including the inverse "maybe you only think bluey is 'deep and meaningful for a kids show' because it's the only kids show you watch."
#im not even referring to steven universe or avatar or wahtever. i mean actual preschool baby shows#the way the bear in the big blue house was a unique safe haven for autistic kids and created Such a healing atmosphere for so many youths.#the way seasame street has been built consciously and intentionally to provide education and emotional support for underprivileged kids#(or hell. even normal privileged kids that just aren't old enough for school yet.)#most ppl dont even know bluey was originally pitched as a show for adults!!#it was pitched as something families could watch together but it was primarily a learning tool to teach good parenting skills.#and it still has that! its very supportive and validating of its adult audience because Thats Who It Was Supposed To Be For.#so many preschool shows are actually consciously made not only to limit imitable behavior but also to actively psychologically enrich kids#and ppl who watch bluey never give other shows the credit ffs

I feel like I’m being long-term gaslit by the entire childcare/parenting world because I think toddlers are so cute and funny and enjoyable to work with but any amount of time in the infant room turns me into the fucking joker
#love the babies sooo much and would die for them but it’s too much for me lol#there are 10 babies in this room so there’s always at least one baby crying#and it’s kind of monotonous because we can’t really do activities or lessons with them like we do for the toddlers and preschoolers#idk#oc
