This post is based on a DM I got recently, I didn't have time to explain to them as clearly as possible so I thought it would be interesting to touch on a Dorotheus of Sidon method; derived from writings in Carmen Astrologicum specifically to predict the number of children you'll have. Masterlist

This is a brief post explaining how the method is used to predict the number of children one will have.

♀Step 1:

•So to begin, look at the sign your Jupiter is in. Then look for their triplicity lords ; It’s an old concept, similar but less "impactful" compared to domicile, exaltation, exile and fall.

•This is a Hellenistic/medieval astrology method, so it's done using WHOLE SIGNS. Other than that Pluto, Chiron, Neptune & Uranus will not be taken into account for the calculations.

♀Step 2:

•Determine the triplicity lords (rulers) of said sign & it's order according to your chart (day vs night) .

For example, if your Jupiter is Aries and your natal Sun is in the 7th-12th house (day chart). Focus your triplicity ruler as Sun.

While if your natal Sun is in the 1st-6th house (night chart) focus on Jupiter.

♀ Rules:

According to Dorotheus, fire signs & earth signs are "sterile", water signs are considered fertile & air signs are.. somewhere in the middle. HOWEVER , please stick to the chart above on this matter for the sake of calculation.

If Mars or Saturn is present in any of the signs from the AC to the triplicity lord, that will signify a loss or miscarriage.

If Jupiter or Venus is present then the chance of having children is doubled. The same can be said if the sign is double bodied (Pisces, Sagittarius, Virgo,Gemini). Could also mean twins. Though Virgo & Gemini are sterile signs there can be certain exceptions (like if there are two or more fertile/twin planets (Jupiter, Mercury,Venus). One isn't really enough to result in a child though.

It's not like you won't have the ability to have your own children, if your partner has quite fertile placements then you will have children, it's just that you will just face some delays or fertility issues at first.

♀Step 3:

•To determine where you start applying this concept, look at where your triplicity lords & determine which one is stronger (day vs night).

•For example, with an Aries Jupiter in a day chart Sun is more dominant than Jupiter. From there, count the number of signs from the ascendant to the dominant triplicity lord.

♀Step 4:

•Determine whether those signs are in good placement or not (refer to the sterile vs fertile chart given).

♀Timing:

The timing of this method is rather vague, but it does give an estimate. If the triplicity lords are in the ascendant or midheaven, (assuming they are fertile & benefic) then the native will have a child in their youth which is like 20s to early 30 (personally, I believe if Part of Fortune is present it will also indicate this).

On the other hand, if these lords come after the 1st house towards the 7th or even 8th house then they're likely to have a child in their middle ages (during/after late 30s).

William Lilly also has a method of predicting timing (mostly answering the question whether the individual will get pregnant/a child that year or now). Though, I'm not really going to touch on the "timing" topic in this post.

Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson has 3 children (that we know of). His Jupiter is Libra & he has a night chart. His triplicity lords are Mercury -Jupiter-Saturn. Mercury is stronger than Saturn so we'll count from the AC to his mercury ( following the zodiacal order) so there are 5 signs ; Aquarius, Capricorn, Sagittarius, Scorpio & Libra.

However, Capricorn is sterile & Saturn is in Sagittarius. So that leaves Scorpio, Aquarius & Libra. Three children.

Beyoncé

Beyoncé has Jupiter in Libra, and she has a day chart so her triplicity lords are Saturn- Mercury- Jupiter. Saturn is stronger than Mercury here. So we'll be counting from the ascendant to her Saturn.

There's just 1 sign; Libra because it's in the same house. However, she has Saturn, Jupiter & Venus here. Jupiter and venus are benefic planets which indicate double children or twins. (2 for each sign) however, since saturn is here one may not manifest. She lost her first child to a miscarriage (saturn influence). So, there are 3 left. She has one daughter and two twins.

Note: usually if the triplicity lord is in the ascendant, there will be no children/one child depending on the sign (especially if saturn is present) however, that also depends on the other planets occupying this house as well as the sign it's in.

Predicting my children; My Jupiter is also in Libra. I have a day chart. My Jupiter triplicity lords are Saturn-Mercury-Jupiter.

Saturn is stronger than Mercury, so I'll be counting from my ASC to Saturn. There are 7 signs; Aquarius, Capricorn, Sagittarius, Scorpio, Libra, Virgo & Leo.

Capricorn, Virgo & Leo are sterile. Mars is in Scorpio. So there's Sagittarius (w venus), Aquarius, & Libra. So I'll likely have 3-4 children. With a possible miscarriage because of mars. Also since I have Saturn in my 5th house ʕ⁠´⁠•⁠ ⁠ᴥ⁠•̥⁠`⁠ʔ.

(I thought I'd have like 1-2 but I guess that's what you get for being nasty.)

The 5th House & Pregnancy

Below gives insight into how one might prepare for a child during pregnancy, their hopes and potential as a mother/parent. The 5th House rules over creation, legacy, and pregnancy.

Aries/Mars in the 5th House = Confident in their decisions as they prepare, leader of the household and will be giving orders that must be followed - is the captain now, is very brave with their pregnancy, could try to do everything on their own at times, Mars tends to be associated with an unexpected or impulsive pregnancy (could be unplanned or a planned birth that is premature), could find their assertion and inner warrior through pregnancy, won't hesitate to take care of their own needs, passionate and enthusiastic in their anticipation.

Taurus/Libra/Venus in the 5th House = There is a great focus on getting ready in the material and financial world, their environment must be stable, works hard to make the nursery and home welcoming and comfortable, works hard to make their self as comfortable as possible during pregnancy too, is very protective and cautious around pregnancy, Venus in particular is debated to indicate a very smooth or "easy" pregnancy.

Gemini/Virgo/Mercury in the 5th House = SO MUCH RESEARCH - parenting books and blogs, singing and talking to the belly often, may like to be part of support groups or around other pregnant woman or mothers of newborns, Virgo in particular can be highly critical of themselves during pregnancy and/or critical of their family in relation to the pregnancy, some debate Mercury and Gemini could indicate twins, very good at sticking to healthy habits, vitamins, and eating, may need a lot of verbal reassurance at times.

Cancer/Moon in the 5th House = May have a lot of expectations about being a mom/parent, could idolize this part of their life, can be highly sensitive and introspective during their pregnancy, is SUPER protective and may be very selective about who is in their life now, their emotional and intuitive connection to their baby may seem supernatural, is good at nurturing themselves and the baby, is associated with being highly fertile, may be attracted to ideas of a natural birth, breast feeding, or other natural methods in pregnancy and babyhood, may seek a lot of advice or become inspired by their own mother or grandmothers.

Leo/Sun in the 5th House = Goddess levels and attitude towards motherhood/parenthood, can be demanding during pregnancy, it is all about HER until the baby is born, isn't afraid to make pregnancy a little fun in their preparations - maybe they get really creative with the nursery or finds a lot of joy in getting to know other expecting mothers/parents, with the Sun in particular their identity may be changed in pregnancy, maybe they makes their identity all about being a mom/parent, or may highly project their identity onto the baby in pregnancy and babyhood, is devoted and adoring to their child and very proud of the both of them.

Scorpio/Pluto in the 5th House= Pregnancy may force them to deal with deep and important questions, might heal themselves during or through pregnancy somehow, could be introspective during pregnancy and may be tempted to isolate at times, there are themes with control such as becoming highly controlling during pregnancy, taking control of their own life, or refusing to let anyone control them, is perceptive and intuitive towards their pregnancy and child, may become softer and more compassionate through pregnancy, crazy pregnancy dreams and intense cravings.

Sagittarius/Jupiter in the 5th House = Won't let pregnancy slow them down or restrict them, could face important questions about responsibility and sacrifice, excited and impatient about the pregnancy, curious about other women's/parent's experiences, can approach pregnancy in a very open-minded way somehow, pregnancy may be a strong spiritual experience, makes decisions quickly, can gain a lot of wisdom from pregnancy, some debate Jupiter in particular indicates having multiple pregnancies close together or having twins or more at one time, the cravings may drive them crazy, could somehow have a "lucky', "blessed", or maybe "easy" pregnancy.

Capricorn/Saturn in the 5th House = Wants to be a hardworking parent, wants to mentor as a parent or maybe mentor and guide others in pregnancy and motherhood/parenthood, fantasizes or plans to "master" motherhood/parenthood, looks forward to or takes on the authority and respect of motherhood/parenthood, Saturn in particular can be associated with fear and insecurity about being a parent but also overcoming that fear, will only become a mother/parent once they are truly ready, may be tempted to do everything on their own or feel like they have to, can be controlling during pregnancy and don't mess with their routine and organization, is very serious about their potential and preparing for their child.

Aquarius/Uranus in the 5th House = Can be very particular in their pregnancy but also confident, pregnancy may be daunting or force them to mature, will have unconventional views and approaches to pregnancy, somehow this pregnancy could be a rebellion or liberation for them, places a lot of importance on the society and community they will be raising their child in, may try to change the world for their children or take a "having children and raising them to make the world a better place" stance, Uranus in particular is associated with unexpected birth (early or late) or unplanned pregnancy and adoption or surrogacy as well, Uranus is also associated with choosing to not have children, may want to connect with other pregnant woman or moms of newborns, could want a lot of social reassurance and activity during pregnancy, may have unique symptoms and cravings.

Pisces/Neptune in the 5th House = Wild pregnancy dreams and cravings, has a deep spiritual connection and experience during pregnancy, relies on their intuition a lot during this time, has a complex relationship with acceptance, forgiveness, and sacrifice with and during their pregnancy, has a lot of hopes and needs to be careful of becoming too unrealistic about their aspirations for pregnancy and becoming a mother/parent, could experience very intense and volatile mood swings compared to their peers' or other family members' pregnancies, may have a lot of struggles with the baby blues, connecting with their baby may come easily or be a huge focus for them.

This spread is used to estimate the likely timing of a pregnancy, but it can also show whether you’re likely to get pregnant within the next two years or not. If the result comes out as negative, please don’t take it as a sentence that you won’t become a mother. It just means that pregnancy may not happen within that two years timeframe.

In this reading, we'll use only the Major Arcana cards, because the main focus is on finding The Empress, who represents the mother in the tarot.

How you should do it:

Start by shuffling the cards well and drawing them based on your intuition. Place each card face down in order, assigning them to positions 1 to 10. Once you’ve placed all the cards, flip them over and look for The Empress. If she appears in positions 1 to 4, it’s a strong sign that pregnancy is likely to happen within a year. It could even mean that you are already pregnant. The closer she is to position 1, the sooner the pregnancy may occur.

Observation:

In the original version of this method, if The Empress showed up in positions 7 to 10, the answer was considered a no. But that hasn’t matched my experience or the experience of many other readers, even when she appears in the later positions, the answer can still be yes, just not right now. It usually means pregnancy may happen later, closer to the end of the two years period, or at the very least not within the first year.

Now, if The Empress appears in one of the early positions, check the cards in positions 5 and 6. These cards can give you clues about when the pregnancy might happen. You can use whatever timing method you prefer, based on the astrological signs of the cards, or by adding the numbers of the Major Arcana to find the month or season. IT'S VERY IMPORTANT to set the method of timing you will use before the reading so you don't get confused.

If The Empress shows up in the later positions, you can still check cards 5 and 6, but remember that the answer points to a longer wait (after one year to the end of the second year). And if The Empress shows up exactly in position 5 or 6, I usually disregard that and suggest doing the spread again, since she’s not in the section that determines if it is a yes or no, so i interpret it as not being in the reading.

Example:

Here we have her, right at the 4th house, so it is a yes!

Lets see the timing:

Again, you can use whatever method works for you!

It could also mean between 3 to 7 months from now.

mommy's moon sign: a thread ☾ part two — libra thru pisces

libra moon: if your mom has a libra moon, she could have been more preoccupied with her relationship with your father rather than putting herself in a position to be focused on her pregnancy + preparing a balanced environment for you. libra moon mamas often go through it with the father of the baby if they prematurely decide to have kids outside of wedlock (we don't judge over here). your mom could have been more focused on the aesthetics of motherhood + also on you being able to have both parents under one roof to be able to fit her ideal family picture. this mentality could have led her to distract herself from the bigger picture which is making sure that she is in a healthy, fulfilling relationship with your father. i wouldn't be surprised if you knew more than you should have when it comes to your parents' relationship as a child. with libra being the sign of relationships, the relationship patterns that your mother exhibited when pregnant with you could have been something that you picked up on, whether it be healthy or unhealthy. beware of issues with co-dependency + people pleasing passed down from your mom as those are big themes that must be overcome in the life of a libra moon mama. libra moon mamas hold a lot of resentment due to being so passive about people overstepping their boundaries + could project that pain onto you if it remains undealt with. as her child, she may be triggered by her relationship with you because she sees you as her mirror. encourage her to have strong boundaries. it's okay for her to say no and she won't be hated for it. respect her decisions. be sure not to be the child that coddles her emotions at the end of the day because she is a grown ass woman, but you should affirm her that it is okay to self-validate without trying to over-rationalize however she feels so that she can move through her emotions + not be avoidant.

scorpio moon: the moon is in a debilitating position (fall) when in scorpio, therefore, it isn't uncommon for women to have a painful pregnancy due to all of the trauma being stored in the womb. your scorpio moon mama may have lived in a state of fear or distrust during her pregnancy + i wouldn't be surprised if she felt alone due to not trusting people. this lack of nurture within the womb was definitely passed down to you if she didn't take accountability to heal from the pain that she experienced. scorpio moon mama would kill to make sure that all your needs are met, but when it comes to handling intense emotions, she may have not known how to navigate those with you (similar to capricorn moon mothers). scorpio moons experience a wounded relationship with their own mother + now that it's their turn to be a mom, they want to be better for their children. motherhood is definitely something that transformed them for the better + they really have the make a conscious effort to not display the same patterns that hurt their inner child. be patient with her + even though you are not responsible for her emotions + how she handles them, provide a safe space for her so that she knows that she is not alone. having emotional boundaries with your mother is also important — not having those boundaries with her can manifest into perpetuating a preoccupied/anxious attachment within yourself.

sagittarius moon: sagittarius moon moms usually end up unexpectedly pregnant. i've noticed that a lot of sag moons are not aware of their cycle which can definitely be responsible for unexpected pregnancies. nonetheless, their pregnancy + motherhood is something they ended up being excited about. they could have had a "fuck it, we ball" mentality because realistically speaking, such is life. lack of preparation could have led to instability in your mother's life while she was pregnant + even after giving birth, bouncing around from place to place. sagittarius moon mamas usually have a youthful + humorous personality, being able to relate with their children + make them laugh. it can be hard to take a sagittarius moon mother seriously because they're usually deemed as the "cool moms" that are very lenient with their children. they can often struggle with disciplining their children because of their own free-spirit nature. if your mother didn't prioritize structure + routine while raising you, it's possible that you downloaded that naturally chaotic, fiery, and unpredictable energy that she also has. sagittarius moon mamas need to be able to teach their children that there are consequences to their actions so that their kids don't end up getting in trouble later on in life or even dangerous situations. hold your own mother accountable for her actions + don't be afraid to put her in her place! she has a lot to learn from her experience as a mother, which includes listening to the ones that she birthed.

capricorn moon: capricorn moon mothers usually have children later on in life (not always though) - either way, the universe granted them their babies when they were ready + prepared to take on this mission as a mother. before motherhood, capricorn moon mommies could have performed the motherly role in other ways (eldest sister, nursing/doctor/healer career, etc etc) so this is not their first rodeo. capricorn moons get a reputation for being cold + stern, which is how they may come across but really they are just not about the bullshit + they take their role as a mother very seriously. they recognize how serious motherhood is and therefore you are going to respect the fuck out of your capricorn mother, even if you don't agree with some of the things that she has tried to instill in you. capricorn moon mothers are focused on legacy + will do her best to make sure that she raises well-rounded children, setting them up for success. so if you have the kind of mother that has tried to shove education + career down your throat, it's because she just wants you to be successful. they also may struggle with being in their feminine energy, especially if your mother is the provider in the house so as her child, you should encourage her to do some therapeutic activities with you to ease some of that stress. though she takes her role as a mother very seriously, there is no denying how stressful the role is on her + can really take a toll on her physical body. if she's open to it because i know how traditional capricorn moons can be, i highly recommend going to therapy together in order to unpack + heal some of those deep seated emotional blockages that can really help to improve + strengthen the family unit.

aquarius moon: these are the unorthodox mothers. the mothers that have instilled confidence in their children from a very early age. your mother may have gotten pregnancy at an awkward time in her life, therefore she realized that she had to start getting real strategic around here to ensure success for this nu era in her life. with an aquarius moon mother, there may have been some distance between you two, whether it be physical or emotional distance. i've noticed that people with aquarius moon mothers were raised by their grandparents or were adopted + don't really know their mother like that (along with pisces moon mamas). if your mother was present throughout your entire upbringing, you may have noticed that she was preoccupied with other tasks such as showing up for her tasks in the real world. there could be strain between you and your mother because you may have felt like she could have paid more attention to you. regardless of how your relationship with your mother manifested, you more than likely came out to be very independent + confident enough to march to the beat of your own drum. these are the moms that started cursing in front of their kids since they were babies. because aquarius moon mamas are very independent themselves, you could have felt like your aquarius moon mama robbed you of your childhood because you too had to learn how to become independent + self-reliant from a young age, resulting in inner child wounds. because the relationship that you have with your mother is not like the traditional mother-child relationship, she can come off more like a friend or an older sister, also resulting in mother wounds because of that lack of motherly nurturance that the child craves + needs. learning to become emotionally vulnerable + transparent with your mother is a theme in order to evolve the relationship. validate where you feel like she may have lacked while also respecting the fact that she did the best that she knew how to. she needs you as someone to hold her ego accountable.

pisces moon: similar to the aqua moon mom, your mother may have been there, but also not "there". there could have been a period in your life where your mother was not physically present + you had to be raised by someone other than her (grandparents, foster care, aunts/uncles, etc). your mother may not have been in the most ideal situation when she got pregnant with you + pregnancy could have also been a karmic consequence for not listening to her intuition. regardless, when she knew she was pregnant, there was no way she could give up the opportunity to be a mother. if your mom was physically away from you, she was always there in spirit, praying for you + making sure that you are spiritually protected even if it's just by asking the powers that be to watch over you. like the other water moons, pisces moon mama may have had a traumatic relationship with their mother + may have transferred over that pain into the relationship that you've had with your mom. having a pisces moon mommy is not for the weak, especially if she didn't do her due diligence of karmic clean up, leaving it for you to take responsibility for. pisces moon mamas may also avoid the accountability + the responsibility of being a mother because the weight of motherhood is just too heavy, especially if she has lack of support, which often times they do. regardless of how your relationship is with mom, the energetic bond runs so deep as you are strongly karmically bound in order for certain karmic missions to be completed. definitely not the most reliable mom, but at the end of the day, it will forever be all love when it comes to her children. it's best to just accept her as is - whatever has transpired is not your fault, but it is your responsibility to do better for your own life.

I have a scorpio jupiter and night chart. So triplicity lord should be mars cause it’s stronger than moon and mercury. My mars is in 8th house, so I counted from the ascendant till the sign before the triplicity lord:

Virgo (12th house), leo (11th), cancer (10th), and gemini (9th).

So it’d be one child (cancer) then twins (gemini)

So, the thing with solar return synastry is that you have a different synastry EVERY year, because it's based on a solar return technique. So to know if you'll have a baby with him, it mostly depends from your situation, like are you in the right age, is it this year or in the future type of solar return synastry, etc. Of course, some people have a baby super soon but you know what I mean.

You should also check where those placements of yours fall IN your sr, it helps understanding what it is. Also, I didn't know about DNA asteroid! I learned something today haha

So, for your analysis. I would say it's a good indicator that you WANT kids together, at least this particular year. You could also bring a sort of change in your relationship. Check 7H that year too, and add Vertex!!!
