Also I just finished reading the fourth wing and…
MY BOYYYYY 😭😭😭
I felt it coming but I hoped every second it wouldn’t turn out.
I’d love for him to somehow come back. She teased the idea of resurrection being impossible so that means someone’s gotta do it, right?

I love how Vasco looks like he is always living his best life while Machete looks like he never had a moment of rest, ever, in his life. Like a mirror reflecting two opposites

by far the worst take i've seen so far post-ep19 of Junior Year is that having a week-by-week live play would have allowed fans to essentially influence the direction of the story in the way they want it to go and that would have resulted in the cast being more sympathetic to the Ratgrinders (ie getting them a redemption arc)
why do you feel the need to try and control this story? YOU ARE NOT THE ONE TELLING IT. if you want to tell a story please go write your own, or go write fanfiction to cope or whatever but you don't get to say that the players are telling the story wrong when it's their story they are telling

“No Longer Will”
After his experience in the Upside Down, Will is no longer completely Will.
In season two, Mr. Clarke gives a lesson on Phineus Gage who, after a freak accident where a pole went through his brain, became known as “No Longer Gage.” The focus is on Will during this scene.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(I should mention that the camera rack focuses to Max during this scene. What that implies for Max I’m not sure. Possible foreshadowing of being taken by Vecna and becoming “No Longer Max?”)
This is used as a metaphor for how Will’s life forever changed once he came back. His trauma transformed him. He can never go back to the Will he was before.
Will continues to be associated with imagery of rods splitting him in half.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But this is also a show that often explores mental illness and trauma through the lens of the supernatural, so I have a hunch that there might be a more literal interpretation than just that.
We learn from season four that with everyone Vecna kills, he takes everything from them. He keeps their souls in his mind.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is why El can’t find Max in her mind. Because she momentarily died, her soul is in Vecna’s mind.
Will also died in the Upside Down. And Vecna killed him.
Tumblr media
BUT he was brought back to life.
But so was Max, and yet her entire soul is gone while Will’s still seems to be intact.
UNLESS, Will’s entire soul actually is not there, only half of it is. He is “No Longer Will.”
(Maybe this only works with psychic deaths, BUT Vecna did kill him using the hivemind that he is psychically linked to)
We know that Vecna and Will have some sort of connection, but is isn’t made totally clear what exactly that connection is. Pieces of the Mind Flayer still stuck inside Will? Perhaps. But maybe this is the reason why, kinda like a reverse Horcrux. It’s not Vecna who has attached a part of himself to Will, but Will who has a part of him attached to Vecna. Maybe whenever he senses Vecna nearby, he is actually sensing that bit of him thats stuck inside?
Maybe this is his NINA, maybe this part of him has his memories of the Upside Down. Maybe this part of him remembers something else that Will does not. Maybe this part of him possesses power that Will currently does not have.
Maybe this is what his coming of age is about, finding that part of him that was lost in the Upside Down so that he can become whole.

Will there be a TAMN playlist?
There will, yeah! Once the fic is finished Key and I are going to compile our many (many, many) TAMN-related/inspiration songs and make an "official" playlist! We don't want to spoil anything, though, so we're going to hang on to it until the fic is completely posted! - 🔒

ive seen ppl saying smth in the wider plagiarism discussion to the tune of "don't worry anxious people, it's impossible to accidentally plagiarize!" and i feel like that lacks a lot of nuance that anxious brains like mine latch on to to just dismiss the possibility outright, as well as a lack of life experiences fueling it.
it is possible to "accidentally plagiarize" in that you can read something, forget about it, then a while later have your brain spit the ideas back out without telling where it got them. so of course you just assume they're yours and share them as such, because That's Where Most Of The Thoughts In Your Head Come From! and it both is and isn't plagiarism, you weren't /intending/ to pass someone's else's work off as your own, i'd even say in a way you were just as much a victim of misinformation as your audience. but you very much so did still resuse the work of someone else, even if you don't remember it.
but in my experience, this kind of thing also happens to a lot of people. you tell a friend a joke then wake up in a cold sweat two days later realizing the reason they didnt laugh was because they'd told you that joke a month ago. you reply to a friend's text and after sending you realized you ended it with the same exact phrase as theirs. you're writing edgy poetry and write a line you really like only to see it in a text post two days later saying youve already liked the post. like, it happens. so if it DOES happens and you're just honest and explain, people will understand. something like "oh shit im sorry, i totally have read that, i mustve forgotten and only remembered bits and pieces and just thought they were mine. thank you for letting me know and for the source" works wonders.
people know you can forget things. people won't automatically doubt your apology just because all true plagiarists say it was accidental. HOPEFULLY people can understand the nuance between a genuine remorseful explanation, and a thief who hoped no one would find out scrambling for excuses for why they did it. and those who can't, that's a them problem, not a you problem, you've taken responsibility for your actions as much as you can. they think the answer is simple, that the only thing stopping you from saying "yes i did it on purpose, i knew the whole time and deliberately copied them" is shame/inability to admit to your actions. but sometimes things AREN'T that simple, so imo ppl who are shitty to you for not following the script they made up for you in their head should be ignored
#youre allowed to make up scripts for people in fact good luck stopping yourself since thats kinda just part of how conversation works#is you try to predict how your audience will react to a certain statement#and my therapist actually encouraged me to practice run stuff i wanna talk about in sessions because That Makes It Easier To Talk About#like who cares if it's rehearsed‚ it's still the truth‚ yknow?#however that only applies to the things /you/ want to say. you are the only one aware of this script and the only one who agreed to it in#the first place which is why you plan contingencies into the script#is because you only have control over one character and can only take guesses at what the others might say#if you guess wrong and they do something different that doesnt mean /theyre/ not following the script#it means /your/ copy was a misprint and you filled in the blanks wrong. so do what good actors do and improvise. you'll get back on script#eventually. or not‚ if your guesses devolved into wildly speculative fanfiction‚ but frankly you knew going into it that#most of your script was guesswork so you should be prepared to have to make some things up on the fly#or see again: prepare contingencies#if your guesswork on your copy of the script turns out to be wrong‚ wouldnt it be sooo handy to have a second copy which follows this#version of events much better?#and if not that one‚ maybe this third? how about this fourth? etc etc etc#but really just. when guessing at what others will say. know that you are guessing and dont hold it against /them/ if youre wrong#sorry ik that wasnt super related to the post itself im just also passionate abt that#plagiarism#james somerton

Then I had a turning point: an encounter woth a rabbi named Paula Reimers who came to speak at Wesleyan. She claimed it was forbidden to imagine God as a mother, because the mother-God would love and forgive us too much. We would have no morality, and we would all become pagans. I knew from my reading that goddesses around the world had severe as well as nurturing attributes. I knew it was wrong to claim that a female God couldn't make laws. I knew it was wrong to say God couldn't appear as a woman. And I knew her dismissive words about religious traditions that revered goddesses were simplistic and bigoted. I was especially angry when [she] waxed eloquent about her personal experience of having God as a male lover. Why couldn't I have God/dess as a female lover?

I want to start writing but I feel like I struggle with getting to know characters personalities like other writers do. Do you have any advice?
hi nonie! 🥺 i feel so flattered and touched that you’ve even considered to ask me this omg 😭
i personally believe that the joy of writing/reading fic is the different versions/sides of characters we get from different writers 🥺 there’s the worry of them feeling ‘ooc’, but i honestly think it’s perfectly fine sometimes 🥹 because we can’t align with everyone all the time!! what ultimately matters is that you’re happy with the way you’ve written a character!
if you’re asking about the process i usually undergo when understanding a character, i can’t say i’m the most reliable/qualified to answer this, but here are the things i do that usually help me:
for speech patterns, dialogues, expressions, & movements: watch clips of them and observe how they respond to things, their general disposition, tone, mood, etc. (i do this a lot!!)
for belief systems, motivations: look at the major decisions they’ve made, what they’re fighting for, what their goal is—and ask why
for more information/additional support: check for any background story/lore they might have & do research!
for a feel of how they’re written: read some fic on them! i do this sometimes when i want to catch their general vibe, but it’s best to be careful when doing this!! i think reading too much on a character while writing them can heavily influence your own unique take on them (sometimes when i’m writing a character, i go on a reading ban for their fics specifically, just to make sure i’m not directly influenced by anyone or anything)
for exercises: character sheets & envisioning them in different au’s. there are some ship/character analysis sheets that i’ve seen float around! they usually ask a bunch of questions abt the character and can help you think about how your character would react in certain situations etc. another great example is to envision your character in another au—strip them down to just their personality and think: in a college au, what would they be like? in an office au, what would they be doing?
for aesthetics: moodboards & music—while these help me more when coming up w storylines, i think it can help too!
honestly though, i still very much struggle with characterisation 😭 i’ve found that some characters come easier to me than others—writing gojo makes me want to tear my hair out all the time 😭; megumi is all smiles and fuzzy feelings; bakugo absolutely terrifies me 🥹
so in a way, i think the struggle is normal 🥹 the only way you’ll really get the hang of it is to keep doing it!!!
i believe in you 🫶🏻 i hope i answered your question omg 😭
