Puyo Puyo 7 has a lot of amazing "Yeah just go with it" plot stuff but I think my absolute favorite is the fact that they're going to the 7 wonders of the world by train. They literally go to the Bermuda Triangle, the Great Pyramids, and Area 51 as a few of the locations. From Japan. By train.
#cricket chirping#puyo puyo#puyo puyo 7#pp7#This is not a bad thing btw. Suspending my disbelief to the point of absurdity is one of my absolute favorite things to do#I <3 bonkers plot justification

PP7 transformation battle was neat
they should bring it back
also I want PPQ dual shift cards for the rest of the PP7 crew?
(mainly maguro and ecolo)
so here's some edits, I call it "shadowy imposter ecolo"
I think these would be the actual dual shift forms?
two with feli + klug (since Ecolo's actual mini/mega forms in 7 were Feli and Klug)
and one with the A trio girls (cause face it, Sega loves using them)
But yeah give me more dual shift characters pls I like them
#puyo puyo#and yes I'm using his original pp7 color pallet of black and teal#I tried the purple he has now and ehhhhhhhhhh it doesn't look *right*#Ecolo

Have you played PuyoPuyo 7? If so, what do you think about it?
good timing anon, i actually replayed it pretty recently with a friend of mine (wanted to play the recent re-translation, very much recommend it, its much better than Nexus's halfhearted mess) so my opinions on it are fresh!!
the short answer is. Its so jank. and probably objectively not a very good game, and there are definitely things i would change about it if i could. But i still really like it for what it is. It's got a unique identity in the series and I love that about it!
im gonna talk a lot now so under the readmore this goes ^_^
i love that transformation mode is just if fever rules were an insane mess. why does it go up to 99 seconds. why does mega mode send SO much damage. god bless it<3 they should bring it back. wanna see what hellfire comet festivals shibakazu would cook up in it.
and like the story is.... not. well paced. but ive learned to laugh about it at least. and like suuuuuure ecolo shows up at the end and then hypes up how unstoppably powerful they are and how ringo could NEVER BEAT THEM and then gets defeated in 10 seconds because the final boss is a joke. its fine<3 at least its actually fun to play and doesnt take a million years to trudge through so the bad pacing doesnt feel nearly as awful. (puyo chronicle i am giving you a little glare)
ive grown to love the jank art style but i will say, i wish they redrew everyone. ringo standing next to characters clearly just with sprites edited from 15th anniversary or fever 2 make her stick out quite a bit. it makes me wonder if the game's art was really rushed or something? it just feels a bit off.
another thing, i dont think this game is a Bad introduction to ecolo at all (i Love their design in this game and i think it perfectly introduces how intensely powerful and unhinged they can be), BUT!!! their chain animations are really... disappointing. idk. i Like that they shapeshift into other characters i think thats fun (i actually think its kind of a shame its a trait of theirs rarely brought up anymore) but the fact its mostly just the others' animations recolored black with some extra particle effects is really lame. minor differences like a more ecolo-like facial expression (get silly!! get mischievous!!!) couldve gone a long way to giving them more personality in their chains.
also relating to the past two notes, its really no secret that transformation mode is... Missing. Quite a bit of assets it really should have. considering a decent handful of characters only go through very minor changes (darkle is literally just a clothing color swap) and honestly Ecolo (since all of their chains are borrowed) still only changing to feli for mini and klug for mega is SUCKS i think and it makes me the most upset out of the cast.. ecolo's already transforming when they're not in fever!!!!! lets do something else!!!!!
this is just a reaaally quick mockup scribble of an idea i had that id been discussing with my friend, but i think it'd be really fun if instead of doing a simple character shapeshift, they got real small and silly looking for their mini form and HUGE AND OVERBEARING AND INTIMIDATING for mega. the core would stay the same size, for scale! pp7 is the game that leans the hardest into ecolo being someone who can switch from silly little thang to terrifying cosmic being of sheer force on a dime, and i think itd be fun if their transformations reflected that.
like idk ecolo is the Debut final boss and (imo) one of the coolest characters in the series so i think it sucks that they got the short end of the stick in the battle animations area in this game.
like ive been saying I've grown to love many of Puyo 7's problems but this is one thing i would definitely change if i could.
#i love puyopuyo can you tell by the way i talk about things id change when i talk about it half the time#bri talks#also tasty tunes i did not mention that in the ramble its good music thank you hideki abe as always#transformation theme is one of my favs ever i think#i haventtttt gotten a chance to get my hands on the pp7 ost cd yet BUT SOMEDAY... SOMEDAY........#bri thoughts

(Unusual Ecolo)
I ended up doodling a reimagining of Unusual Ecolo's costume, since, well, it felt difficult to draw consistently and also just wanted to have some fun.
If you're curious about what changes I ended up making...
I ended up trying to make Unusual Ecolo's outfit more obviously a jumpsuit because I suppose jumpsuits do fit his spacey aesthetic but I the way that the jumpsuit was drawn felt a bit confusing, like how the heck is this guy supposed to pee??? (Sure, I doubt Ecolo's aware of necessary human functions but, y'know, humans need to pee)
I ended up changing the color of the tips of the jumpsuit's sleeves to be more homogenous with the rest of the outfit.
I did end up getting rid of some more hard-to-draw details, but I did end up keeping the scarf-like protrusion on the back of the outfit since it looked whimsical and was a significant part of the outfit's silhouette, added some grey buttons on top to help lead back to the face, and also changed the back of the jumpsuit to include a hood. (Sure, again, it's a little pointless as Ecolo already has headgear, but, who knows, Dark Arle's got a hood, so maybe Ecolo does like hoods...)
I ended up changing the shoes slightly, mainly giving them slight platforms and changing the blue tip of the shoe to cover all of the toes instead of only the middle toe.
I also ended up doodling how Unusual Ecolo's outfit would look with usual Ecolo's colors, as well as his color scheme in Puyo Puyo 7. Come to think of it, the color scheme for Unusual Ecolo's jumpsuit looks like a cross between Ecolo's PP7 colors and his modern design's colors. Has anybody else noticed that?

Translation: Am working on a drawing for Sebastian’s birthday! I have some other things planned too. Gonna play Pressure after school with my sister and friend because I must see the fishman on his birthday!! My plan is: We get to his shop, sing happy birthday, give him as much research as we can, hang out in his shop with him for a bit before carrying on, eventually die, then go to our file cabinet to read and discuss his file! It’ll be great, I love celebrating fictional birthdays!

yeah ok sure ill make a second blog of this variety
i love to screenshot dialogue i like so might as well have a blog dedicated to posting them for fun
If you don't like seeing this blog in puyo tags you are more than welcome to block this blog I promise it's okay follow your heart 👍

Also my friend Katie has this game now so i can screenshot their stream on discord lol
Feel free to request screenshots of particular characters or scenes. No guarantee I'll answer 'em all, but I'll do my best. NDS 20th, PPT2 and NDS PP7 are games I have fully completed, which will make gathering slightly harder to find dialogue (like winning and losing a level) in those particular games easier. and technically PPT1 too but that one will be a bit of a hassle on account of needing to get my switch
You can also just ask me questions about puyo ig if you want i mean im not a lore master or anything so dont go to me for lore lol but stuff like what my favourite game is or whatever is cool (if you want me to draw something, send an ask to my main!! :3 )

Heya, Neni!! I've been getting really curious about the Quest ARS' lore as of recent, and I was wondering how much you knew/was revealed about the three's backstories. Anything of note about how they got where they are?
I'm especially curious about the fact that Seo saved Atari's life in the past... How much do we know about that? Do we just know that it happened, or are there more details, like how or why?
So, I'll go through them in ARS order:
Atari:
The reason she wants to be a spacetime detective is because a detective saved her life when she fell through a spacetime tunnel as a kid and almost got stuck and died that way. It's also the reason her favorite food is Onigiri, because that was the food the detective treated her to to cheer her up when she was crying after the traumatic experience. Atari also keeps a Wishing Pendant (an intralian toy, similar to a mood ring) on her person at all times; that pendant was a gift from the detective that saved her.
Of course, as you said, the detective that saved Atari back then was, in fact, a younger Seo, but Atari doesn't recognize her after all those years and Seo is keeping it a secret from her. Rokia, however, has already caught on to this, but decided to stay out of it.
After Atari became obsessed with private detectives, she started watching tons of mystery movies, TV shows and reading all the novels she could get her hands on, so she has a pretty fantastical, Sherlock-Holmesified idea of what it is like to be a detective. She apparently also got made fun of for her enthusiasm about her dream a lot in the past.
Rokia:
We reaaaally don't know anything about his background, other than that he's been working in the field for years now and is pretty jaded. His sense of justice is pretty defined though, seeing how he often keeps investigating cases far beyond what he's getting paid for, just to make sure other people are safe.
Seo:
She started her detective work in her youth and, according to herself, was pretty similar to Atari when she started out, hence why she actually has a lot of faith in her potential as an investigator in the future.
Before Seo founded the agency, she worked freelance on her own and, somewhere along the way, came to Primp Town and made friends with Accord. The two of them are pretty close and Seo knows some of Accord's secrets that nobody else knows about, it seems. In the past, Accord had to often make sure Seo would eat on the job, because she would often accidentally starve herself while in the zone. This task has since been taken over by Rokia.
Ecolo is kind of the Arsène Lupin to her Sherlock Holmes. We don't know when she first ran into Ecolo and when she started being able to remember those encounters, but the last time she met Ecolo he was clearly still his PP7 self, given her descriptions, meaning he must've actively avoided running into her ever since making friends with Ringo. This is confirmed by how throughout Quest's story, Ecolo makes meticulously sure to not show himself when Seo and Ringo are in the same room, presumably to avoid Seo realizing that Ringo is friends with him. Whether this is because Ecolo doesn't trust Seo to not hurt Ringo if she finds out or because Ecolo is embarrassed of how much he's changed is unclear. In any case, when Seo direcly points out to Ecolo that something about him is different from when they last met, he dodges the issue immediately.
As mentioned above, Seo saved Atari's life when she was a kid and, while not initially recognizing the new recruit as the little girl from back then, eventually catches on to who she is. She doesn't tell Atari though, despite playfully hinting at it. The fact that Seo saved Atari despite her not being a paying customer and even treated her to lunch and gave her a little toy afterwards shows that, despite how miserly she can seem these days, at least back then she was a pretty idealistic person.

PHYSICS GANG SIGN YEAAAA
(yes I traced Ringo's PP7 art for this)
ok so story: when I learned about the right hand rule my AP physics teacher told us a story about the RHR
where the whole class was doing the exam (big thing at the end of the year where you get college credit based on how well you do) and of course there's a proctor making sure nobody cheats
aaaaaaaand the whole class is using the right hand rule to figure things out
...but the proctor didn't know about the right hand rule and thought everyone was cheating
so they stopped the test, someone had to explain it to them, and everyone had to come back later for a retake (since the test was interrupted)
...anyways I'm pretty sure they make sure the physics proctors know about the weird physics hand signs now.
bonus normal puyo 7 ringo + lineart:
