hii !! i absolutely LOVE dino charge its probably one of my favourite series ever so heres my gift to you in the form of everything i have in my drafts at the moment

the team loves tyler, first and foremost. he's their Red and they'd do anything he asked (and they know he'd do anything for them), but tyler has absolutely no clue. they gravitate towards him. they’d all die for him and he has no idea. they listen to everything he says and argue like kids about who his favourite is. tyler could technically rule zandar because all he’d have to do is ask phillip to do something and he wouldn't even hesitate - he’d brag to the other rangers that HE was the only one who could do this for tyler and suck it losers he’s winning. tyler is oblivious to the power he wields

despite their best efforts in learning about modern times, ivan and koda were not fit for the workplace. the cafe proved too much of a challenge, and kendall was tasked with the unfortunate job of - in the kindest way possible - firing them. instead, they chose to play to their strengths and use what they already know to be interactive staff for the museum at their respective exhibits

being a ranger team means working incredibly well together in and out of the suits. the museum cafe runs like clockwork and deliveries are unloaded and stored more efficiently than the museum has seen in years. it’s a combination of their hightened competence and abilities, and their natural need to work as a single unit. what allows this seamless teamwork? the magical bond to the energems? the Morphing Grid? the Power? who knows; but any other rangers - active or otherwise - who find themselves at the museum could spot the team from a mile away

in the search for his father, tyler got used to travelling. never staying in one place for too long and always being on the move became natural, but choosing to stay in amber beach seemed was so easy he hardly even noticed. as soon as everything died down, as soon as they were no longer needed, he stopped for a while and thought about it. it didn’t take him long to realise it wasn’t amber beach he felt bound to, but his rangers. he hadn't felt like he had a home until he met them, and he'd follow them anywhere

heckyl is intelligent - there's no denying that - but he absolutely refuses to admit that he doesn't know much about earth technology or culture. with everything that happened he never really had the time to properly learn everything, which led to an interesting altercation where he thought a toaster was some kind of dangerous explosive. koda and ivan (who are very proud at how well they’re doing in their Modern Lessons) had to explain its actual purpose. he will take this to the grave.

chase shows them all rugby. no it is not like football. zandar has a team, so world cup tournaments get pretty intense when zandar plays new zealand. ivan starts cheering for zandar with phillip, and it’s the most dramatic betrayal the cave has ever seen

kendall and chase's biggest challenge when the team first formed was teaching koda how to pronounce his dinosaur name because of how language had evolved while he was in the ice. it was a long first few battles.

during the Modern Lessons with ivan and koda, riley and kendall got too enthusiastic about catching the two up on all the modern tech and end up rambling/inventing something new. the lesson completely derailed into scientific terminology that neither were used to, and it ends in tears for one or both of the "old" ones. they went to hide in koda's cave and would only talk to keeper

riley so willingly got in the car with tyler and shelby in the first episode because some unexplainable force told him he could trust them, and that in time he'd come to care so much for them. Red and Pink are just such comforting colours, you know?

tyler sometimes forgets that ranger stuff isn’t applicable to other people and always brings up “rexie” in conversation, so most people assume he has a dog. it’s not until someone sees him talking to the t-rex skeleton at the museum that they begin to think otherwise

i feel like shelby and poisandra would be unexpectd best friends in like battle scenarios (“i love your nails” while doing a backflip followed by a “thanks! pink is my favourite colour you know!” and a morpher blast). the boys are baffled by this

Ask game, please! AU where Yoichi, back in the Dawn of Quirks, discovers that he does have a quirk. He can steal the quirks from anyone he bites. Please.

Ehehe ok, two people asking

1- Yoichi discovers this the first time he's kidnapped. (It's one of his brother's goons on order to scare him.) They cover his mouth with one hand, holds the other away from his face, igniting a fire on it and threatening to light the whole building up if he fights. Yoichi bites his hand at the same time his brother kicks in the door, so he assumes the fire flickered out in fear and barely even realizes his body runs a little warmer than it used to.

2- until a dinner with his brother turns into a screaming match and Yoichi slams his hand down on the table, ready to march out- and then smells smoke. AfO is stunned that his little brother has a metapower after all, and one... Familiar, to him, but Yoichi thinks it only makes sense and is so happy to finally have one of his own.

3- he talks about being a fire themed hero and teases that he should have had red eyes where his greedy brother had green. AfO doesn't want him to suspect that his quirk might be something more, so he acts like it's just a little fire quirk, nothing for Yoichi to get too excited about, it's not very strong and he's still sick, don't want to catch a fever.

4- but Yoichi did realize what his quirk actually was. He feigns ignorance as well, until yet another argument with his brother leads to AfO trying to steal his quirk- unsuccessfully. Yoichi bites him in retaliation. He can't steal anything from him either. AfO quickly locks Yoichi up so he can't interact with anyone he could potentially take a quirk from.

5- this leads to Second inheriting a stockpile of a couple powers from Yoichi (fire, and a limited stamina boost), as well as the ability to steal more by biting- but he realizes he can't use any he stole. When OfA is passed to Third, Third can use any quirks Second stole - but none from Yoichi or that Third takes. This continues until All Might, who's able to use all of the quirks in the stockpile, but can't seem to steal any. He wonders if the quirk is full. It certainly seems to be, and Izuku is under the impression he can't steal any more either, and wouldn't want to with how difficult balancing the huge amount of powers from All Might already is. That is until the Muscular fight, when Izuku gets desperate and bites- and is suddenly able to use the muscle quirk where the villain can't. (Izuku finds using any he himself steals easier than the ones given to him, but he's determined to figure those out anyway.)

The Dialectical Humanism of Big-Ass Robots: An Intro

My high school students always lose their shit when I tell them that I, Coach Werner, also watch anime. I kinda feel bad about it. By now, I know I��ll see the excitement die from their eyes little by little as they pepper me with questions, searching for a connection with show after show after show. 

“Coach, have you seen Jojo?”

“Nope.”

“What about DBZ or Naruto?”

“Not since before you were born.”

“Attack on Titan? Utena? Tokyo Ghoul?”

“Not yet, though they’re on my list.”

“The fuck Coach? I thought you said you watch anime!”

When I tell them I mostly watch mecha, they get confused. After I explain that mecha are the ones with jumbo-sized robots, they groan. I’ve even had one kid say that didn’t count. As a general rule, I try to not let the opinions of 15 year olds hurt my feelings; I only docked his grade a couple points. 

Whatever my students may think, oversized anthropomorphized robots have fascinated me since I was a kid. Over the years, as I’ve revisited shows from my youth and found new mechanized, cel shaded rabbit holes to tumble down, I’ve tried to figure out what exactly was so appealing about the genre. There’s definitely a bit of wish fulfillment, a sorta kaiju-sized power fantasy, sure, but that’s not all of it. Same with intricate sci-fi world building, and of course the thrill of pew-pew dogfights and beam saber duels. But none of those alone seemed to account for the whole thing. They’re all fun set dressing, definitely worth a watch on their own but not enough, I don’t think, to capture my imagination for nearly a quarter of a century.

This series, The Dialectical Humanism of Big-Ass Robots, started off as a rambling, borderline incoherent and definitely substance enhanced diatribe that tried to explain how excited I was for the first episodes of Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury. It feels right, though, both the name and the bigger through line.

There’s a deep, earnest seriousness to most mecha shows (especially within the “real robot” subgenre) that implores the audience to grapple with intricate ideas and themes drawn from philosophers like Aristotle, Nietzche, and Rousseau, oftentimes complete with allegorical mouthpieces for competing ideologies. There’s also the slightly goofy and always physics-defying “rule of cool” concepts of the robots themselves–I mean, who doesn’t want to see a boom cannon with angel wings, or a crucified rage monster, or transforming karaoke jets?–that can easily be laughed off as a kid’s cartoon. Any foolhardy (read: hubristic and dumbasstic) attempt to try to find unifying threads within such a wide and varied genre has to address both of those tendencies. Here, friend, you will find one such foolhardy attempt. 

Mecha anime, more than any other subgenre, has a fundamental tension summarized by two infuriatingly simultaneous, contradictory truths:

Anthropomorphized mechs bring out the best in humanity, allowing us to overcome our flaws and leap forward into a better future.

Anthropomorphized mechs feed into the worst traits of humanity, allowing us to destroy ourselves in new and technologically advanced ways.

Those two overwhelmingly common truths, when taken together, can be summarized in fancy philosophy jargon with just two words: dialectical humanism.

Dialectics is a concept pioneered (in the West, at least) by Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel during the late 18th and early 19th century. There’s literally a whole field of study called “Hegelian Dialectics” that we’ll touch on from time to time, but the main thing to know is that two mutually exclusive and contradictory ideas are often both true at the same time. 

Humanism has a long, fraught history, but the most common Western interpretations stem from Enlightenment-era ideals. Essentially, humanism boils down to the belief that humankind can progress beyond its animalistic nature through a combination of empathy and rational thinking. Again, we’ll be touching on a whole slew of humanist thinkers throughout this series.

So that’s The Dialectical Humanism of Big-Ass Robots. I feel like mecha shows–from Astro Boy to Zeta Gundam, and almost everything in between–play with this dialectic, where the mechs themselves represent humanity’s ultimate destruction and ultimate salvation simultaneously. Sometimes we struggle to survive, sometimes we overcome and thrive, and sometimes we find ourselves transformed into an ocean of pink goo.

had this dumb idea where Rose gets confuse about her sexuality (she went to collage when she was 8. I doubt she really could focus on that. I think she’s 18/19 when the season starts) and like she can’t really talk to any of her team about it so (let’s say hypothetically the Mystic force/operation overdrive) and Vida just pops up like “Like I understand you. We can talk about that.”

It ends up with Rose venting and Vida listening and it ends with Vida kinda just giving the “it’s fine” shrug and saying something reassuring like “You’re into who you’re into. It took me awhile to figure out I find both men and women attractive. My green ranger and yellow ranger also had a bit of hard time figuring it out too but we found out in the end and we”re happy. We have family and friends who supported us”

Thoughts on Kendall being adopted???

Ngl, up until your vamp!Kendall AU I didn't think to consider the possibility but now that it's been presented I actually can get behind this. Her being adopted probably adds extra angst points to her lore (additional HC that she was adopted solely so they could use her intelligence to serve as a trophy or brownie points for her parents)

Within the vamp!AU I think it would be interesting if her adopted parents were conservative Christians, and that they tried to indoctrinate her into their strict Christian beliefs, since it would add an extra dichotomy between what they believe is "righteous" and "pure" by their religious standards (and what they tried to push onto her by extension) and her eventual vampirism, which is something historically seen as an "unholy disease", and the same could be said for her trying to develop her sexuality/gender identity in a home that highly discourages that way of thinking, especially for girls. Because her parents are adoptive ones, they would probably gaslight her into thinking that she's so lucky to have them when her birth parents were reckless, alcoholic sinners and that they can save her soul as long as she trusts them wholeheartedly (which is textbook emotional abuse).

This could help further cement her rebellious nature against the way she grew up and her being more free in her adulthood and going all out (almost to her detriment) before finally grounding herself and finding a balance that allows her to thrive as a vampire.

Let's see. I'm down a very big "Thinker gf 🤝 Simp bf" rabbit hole thanks to a book I just finished SO I HAVE SOME very lovely ideas~

So post canon, I usually hc that Heckyl came back and now works part-time at dino bite just so he can hang out with the team. Dino bite, now, of course, is in the Amber beach dinosaur ZOO. But it's still a cafe, and Heckyl still has the sweetest tooth in the entire team.

So one time when Koda and RIley baked a tray of muffins for the shop, Heckyl ended up eating the entire batch five seconds after they were out of the oven.

This also happened with Shelby's cookies and Chase's pavalova. Many, many times.

So Kendall finally decided she needed to do something about this whole situation because it was causing a lot of chaos and the sweets menu of the dino bite cafe was usually depleted. SO her finest brainwave was "Heckyl, you need to learn how to bake yourself, so you don't end up eating other people's bakeables" (ik that's not a word). Heckyl was resistant to the idea because yknow. 1 million year old alien ex overlord yadda yadda resistant to new ideas— SO kendall decides to take a softer/sweeter stance and asks him if he would like to go to baking classes with her. THIS is one thing he readily agrees to.

So yeah, thrice a week you just have heckyl and kendall just going to baking classes and coming back with their clothes stained in edible dyes and hair covered in flour~ (yes everyone's gossiping btw)

Bonus: Heckyl does not stop eating other people's baked goods, but does lessen it. BECAUSE he feeds everything he bakes himself to the dinosaurs. And shhhhhhh kendall doesn't know this. yet
