General Ranger Headcanons

Ranger Teams are protective of their youngest members and their Reds. Sometimes, this does coincide, but for the most part, the youngest and the Red are separate people

Red Rangers generally have zero self-preservation instincts, either because of trauma or daredevil personalities

Blue Rangers can be the 'tech wiz', but generally, they're just extremely intelligent

Rangers all have a pretty solid relationship with gender and pronouns. Mostly because they see and fight aliens literally every day and have decided they have Bigger Things to worry about

Reds, Yellows, and Blues are usually always there on the Ranger teams, so it's common for them to be close

Rangers have a list that they pass down to the younger teams. This list details little things like how to help give each other strength to what pain medications can help the aches and pains go away fastest, because yes the suits take most of the blows, but that doesn't mean it doesn't hurt later

Some Rangers have PTSD, some have anxiety, some have depression. There are, in fact, numbers of former-Ranger therapists that the Rangers all know by heart

Teams don't really drift apart, they stick together because who else is gonna understand what it's like to witness the people you hang around daily almost die every other week?

Rangers drift toward other Rangers. It's due to the Morphin' Grid power they've been imbued with and the Morphin' Grid's pull to itself

There's a point in every Ranger's fight that shift-sleeping becomes the norm amongst teams. It's to stop nightmares, but also because of the paranoia that strikes when you're in fight or flight mode too long

Rangers from space or space-adjacent stick together

Rangers in general stick together, always. Where one Ranger is, another is typically not far behind. Some teams go so far as to get houses together, others just in the same neighborhood or town. Never far from each other, and never away for too long

The Power will never, can never abandon its chosen people. Once it makes its choices, it will not deviate. It doesn't stop looking out for its chosen ones either. Once you've bonded to the Morphin' Grid, you're stuck for life, regardless of being active or not

In Universe, people write fanfiction about the Rangers. Yes, they read it, sometimes they even like it. (Megaforce and down in particular find it hilarious)

The scone the Rangers find out about their Super Sentai counterpart shows, it's on. Some find them hilarious, some find them uncomfortable, but it's all in good fun for all of them

A list of common triggers is passed around to the Ranger teams, including but not limited to: loud noises, bugs, fog, robotic voices/static

Some of the Rangers (especially those who've been fighting for years) get therapy animals

Rangers have problems connecting to people who aren't Rangers or don't know about Rangers. Similar to military or police or doctors, Rangers are never truly off unless they're inactive and even then, it's a roll of the dice as to if they'll be pulled back in. Most of them have been doing this since they were teens, so they never truly got a chance. Preston Tien, Ninja Steel Blue, once described the experience as "playing with a half-deck whilst the other decks are rigged against you" and most of the other Rangers agreed

Every Ranger knows the pain of Nightmares, which is a big part of the reason shift-sleeping became so common amongst teams. Sleeping disorders are also common, which is not easy for the Rangers to deal with. When you're trained from a young age to be fighters and saviors of the planet, you don't walk away without trauma

Rangers who've gone Evil (or started Evil) and come back to the side of Good have each other's direct lines, Tommy Oliver, Karone, Trent Fernandez-Mercer, etc, all of them share a similar fear of suddenly turning evil again

Rangers do not like Zordon for his express need to put teenagers into a war that isn't even their's

12 years ago, Jake Holling was part of a team recruited by Gosei, a protege of Zordon of Eltar, meant to act as a resistance team against Rita Repulsa's five-decades occupation of Earth. However, these Power Rangers were woefully unprepared for the addition of The Armada to Rita's forces and were defeated. In the time after, Jake started fighting on the ground, stepping up as a human resistance leader in the former Harwood County. He never speaks of his time as a Ranger, few knowing of it at all. Though, with the appearance of a mysterious duo of a Green and a Pink Ranger, he considers retrieving his Gosei Morpher from the wreckage of the Megaforce Base. Maybe there are other Power Rangers out there, maybe Earth can be saved.

The game is simple. There is only one therapist in the Power Rangers universe, and that therapist has to decide which Ranger to treat first.

Rules:

The character must be a ranger, characters who do not morph do not count (We know, Dr. K would probably sweep the tournament if she was allowed in here)

Positive Propaganda is allowed, and will be added under a cut if submitted.

Negative Propaganda will not be allowed and if you’re too much of a dick about it we reserve the right to block you

While this is a tournament about comparing characters’ trauma, we are trying to remain lighthearted without invalidating anyone’s trauma. Do not invalidate any character’s trauma to prop up your own character, this will result in an immediate block. Ex: “X is so traumatized they can't ask for help if their life depended on it” is fine. "X’s dad was just a little mean to them" is not.

I give you headcanons about the Goodhall siblings-Rangers duo.

— How is their dynamic as siblings? —

Younger or older, Y/n is extremely protective of Emma, even though she’s fully capable of taking care of herself. Y/n has a habit of stepping in when he feels she’s in danger during battles, much to Emma’s annoyance.

Like Emma, Y/n also has a deep appreciation for the environment, though his interests lean more towards animals or ecosystems. The two of them often bond over long hikes, photography, and efforts to preserve the planet.

They tease each other relentlessly, but it’s always good-natured. Whether it’s racing to see who can scale a cliff faster or arguing over whose Ranger suit looks cooler, they bring out the competitive side in each other.

— How is their dynamic as Rangers? —

As Rangers, Y/n, and Emma have a distinct synergy in battle, often teaming up for combo attacks. Their ability to anticipate each other’s moves makes them a formidable duo.

Y/n often jokes about being overshadowed by her “pink flair,” claiming his suit deserves just as much attention. Emma fires back by saying she’s the stylish one of the family.

Y/n and Emma have a unique sibling attack or ability that requires both of them to work together, channeling their connection to nature or teamwork into a powerful finisher.

— How is their dynamic with the rest of the Team?—

The rest of the team admires how close the siblings are. Their bond inspires camaraderie among the group, but they also playfully roll their eyes at their sibling banter.

While Emma is the heart of the team, Y/n’s often seen as the backbone, providing emotional and tactical support.

If Emma has any romantic interests (like Troy), Y/n can’t resist teasing her. But then Emma retaliates by calling him out in front of his crush or embarrassing Y/n in similar ways.

— How are they as brother and sister?—

If Y/n’s older, he often remind Emma to stay grounded and focus on her responsibilities. If his younger, Emma takes on a slightly maternal role, constantly worrying about Y/n.

Y/n and Emma have a series of hand signals or phrases they use to communicate during battles or tough situations, often baffling the rest of the team.

Y/n occasionally pulls harmless pranks on the team, but it’s mostly Emma who suffers from his antics—like swapping her morphing call for a silly phrase.

Emma drags Y/n along for her nature photography outings, sometimes making him carry her gear or act as her test model for shots.

Whether in a high-stakes battle or everyday life, Y/n and Emma have an unspoken rule: protect each other at all costs. If one of them is in danger, the other is the first to step in, no matter the odds.

While Emma is often the heart of the team, Y/n acts as her anchor. When the team feels unsure, Emma’s optimism and Y/n’s grounded perspective balance each other out. The others often joke that they’re like co-leaders in everything but name.

The two of them have developed special battle techniques that take advantage of their shared instincts. Whether it’s a perfectly timed combo moves, or covering for each other seamlessly, their teamwork is unmatched.

In the middle of battles, they still find time to tease each other. If Emma executes an impressive move, Y/n might quip, “Not bad for the second-best fighter in the family.” She fires back with, “Guess I’ll have to save your butt again!”

As siblings, they push each other to grow stronger. If Emma’s training her aerial flips, Y/n’s pushing himself to perfect his ground maneuvers. They constantly compare scores on their Megazord battles, sparring matches, or even who can complete a mission fastest.

— How is their daily life as siblings?—

Morning routines are sacred. Whether it’s sitting together at a café or Emma insisting on making Y/n try her latest smoothie recipe, it’s a rare time when they can relax and enjoy each other’s company.

Emma occasionally slips up and calls Y/n by an embarrassing childhood nickname, especially when she’s annoyed with him. Eventually, Y/n returns the favor by reminding her of cringe stories from when they were kids.

If Y/n’s the older sibling, he might feel responsible for keeping Emma safe and grounded. But when the weight of being a Ranger gets to him, Emma flips the script and becomes Y/n’s biggest cheerleader.

As mentioned before, Y/n often joins Emma’s nature photography trips, not because he’s super into photography but because he enjoys seeing how much it lights her up. Sometimes, though, Y/n secretly hopes for a shorter trip.

If Y/n’s feeling frustrated or doubting his abilities as a Ranger, Emma is the first person to talk him through it. She reminds Y/n of his strengths and helps him see the bigger picture, just like he does for her.

— Bonus Headcanons:

Y/n and Emma are always coming up with inside jokes or playful schemes, often to lighten the mood during tense missions. The rest of the team sometimes feels like they’re part of their sibling sitcom.

If Emma gushes over something cute or sentimental (like saving a baby animal during a mission), Y/n is quick to playfully tease her. She usually gets back at him by imitating his “serious Ranger mode” voice.

If there’s any chance to compete—whether it’s training drills, who can take down the most foot soldiers, or even who pilots their Zord better— they’re all in. But the moment one of them is in trouble, competition takes a backseat to teamwork.

No matter what happens—whether it’s a mission failure or a tough day—Emma knows Y/n’s always going to be her brother first and a Ranger second. That bond is what keeps both of them grounded, even in the face of unimaginable challenges.

More General Rangers Headcanons

Sixth Rangers are inherently more powerful than the regular Rangers. You'll notice that most can 1v1 difficult enemies that prove challenging to even the Reds of the team (ie.: Zhane (In Space Silver) 1v1'ing Ecliptor). This is because, on a power scale, the Sixth is supposed to balance the team out. A team that can work as individuals and an individual that can work on/with a team

Reds develop an attachment to their Sixth Rangers, be it romantic (Carter Grayson/Ryan Mitchell) or platonic (Leo and Mike Corbett), but it's close and quickly formed

Similarly, Sixth Rangers form quick and close attachments to their Reds, platonic or romantic

Pinks and Blues are either siblings or best friends and there is no in-between

Survivor's Guilt is a powerful force and 90% of the Rangers have it, especially the alien Rangers or those like the Lunar Wolf Wildforce Ranger

Rangers getting discouraged and believing themselves unworthy of the Power is also common, so there's a network of Rangers you can call to help with that kind of stuff

If you don't already have fantastic spatial awareness, you develop it pretty quick as a Ranger. It's damn near impossible not to because of all the attacks by Monsters, Bugs, etc

Red Rangers can give orders to their teams and the Power will give little pushes for the other Rangers to following it, but that doesn't mean the other Rangers can't refuse of their own volition

The Morphin' Grid affords its Rangers a form of immortality. They can be fatally injured, but otherwise, Rangers are effectively immortal

Some Rangers go on to become police officers, but most Rangers agree that working to assist and help people (ie.: lifeguards, doctors, breaking ground in the science fields) is best. Some of them establish dojos to train people to protect themselves (Tommy Oliver) and others work with volunteer efforts (Troy Burrows)

Veteran Rangers, Reds especially, tend to hang back during crossover events- this is to give the new Reds the confidence in themselves and their abilities, and allow them to grow into their leadership. The only exception was Forever Red, because Jason is a little bit of a control freak. He's the oldest Red, it's his right

When a Ranger is in a battle that forces them into demorph (i.e.: Gia, Jake, and Noah (Megaforce) against Creepox) the other teammates will be supremely worried and clingy, this is because of a trauma bond each team shares, but also because seeing someone you love get so hurt in a battle that they lose their ability to hold their morphs is fucking terrifying.

On that note, other Ranger teams will check in after those battles because seeing your successors get demorphed in the middle of battle is also something terrifying

Also on that note, some Rangers have specific nightmares in which they don't make it out of those demorph fights alive

The TMNT do on occasion pop out of the New York sewers to assist in a battle or two with the Ranger teams

Rangers who have martial arts skills (Ninja Storm, Jungle Fury, Samurai, Ninja Steel, etc) stick together, much like Rangers who are from or went to space

The techs of the teams have secret channels that they use to make "communication devices" (cell phones) so that Rangers don't have to rely on their morphers to communicate as well as being able to communicate with other Rangers and teams

Bulk and Skull have been linked so tightly with the Rangers that they've been kidnapped several times, only to be let go when it's been clear they aren't Rangers themselves

Junior Rangers have a chat, kids that helped Rangers (Heather, Jordon, etc.) have linked up and compared notes. They know of or know each other and most of them are tightly linked together
